Rafe: What is that? Wh--
Sami: It's your shirt. What do you mean, hat is that?" You took my clothes. I didn't have a choice.
Rafe: It's a little snug, don't you think?
Sami: What are you, the fashion police?
Rafe: You're pregnant. Why didn't you tell me? Have you told anyone?
E.J.: I just told you I could get you out of here right now, right this minute.
Nicole: You know, usually, I don't care if people trust me or not, but with you, it means everything.
E.J.: We just have to convince the police to get you out of here and drop those stupid charges.
Nicole: Whether they do or not, having you on my side, this nightmare is starting to end. What are you thinking about?
E.J.: I'm thinking that for somebody, the nightmare's just about to begin.
Nicole: You mean whoever did kill Trent.
Melanie: Get off. Let me go!
Nick: You son of a bitch!
Trent: Leave it to Melanie to have a dork like you for a knight in shining armor.
Nick: No! No!
Melanie: You were gonna cut the cake.
Melanie: And then you just totally tuned out?
Nick: Did I? I'm really sorry.
Melanie: What were you thinking about?
Nick: Nothing. Nothing.
Melanie: I thought we had become close. And close friends don't keep secrets.
Nick: You're right. They don't. Which is why I should tell you exactly what I was thinking.
Nick: I was thinking about how rough you've had it. Everyone's been so unfair to you since your father's death. And that note -- how tortured you've been.
Melanie: Yeah, well, today's supposed to be a happy day, right?
Nick: That's my point. It's so great to see you smile again.
Melanie: Well, it isn't every day a girl gets her own private birthday party thrown for her.
Nick: That's why I did it. 'Cause I need you to know I'd do anything for you.
Melanie: Um, not to be greedy, but didn't you say that there were two more presents?
Nick: Oh, right. Um...one of them was actually there by mistake, but, uh, I wanted to save this one for last.
Melanie: Yay. [Giggles] Oh, my gosh. Well, I wonder what you've come up with this time, Nick Fallon.
Nick: It's your birthstone.
Melanie: I don't know what to say.
Nick: Here, try it on.
Melanie: Ooh, well, it fits -- it fits perfectly.
Nick: You can consider it a friendship ring.
Nick: You know, the reason I said I'd do anything for you is because, well, just what you said we were -- good friends, great friends. That's forever.
Lucas: Hey, we got your message.
Philip: What's going on? Is something wrong?
Daniel: The chemo -- it's been very hard on her system as you know.
Lucas: So has anything changed?
Daniel: She's become anemic. Common symptom, but she's asked to see here boys, so I --
Philip: Why did she want to see us now? Is she...
Daniel: It's a critical time.
Philip: Oh, my God.
Daniel: However, I do believe --
Philip: Stop the chemo now. Stop the chemo.
Philip: I'm serious, Daniel. I want her treatment stopped.
Daniel: Not your decision to make.
Philip: So I should just decide to let her die?
Las: Philip, it's just the chemo.
Philip: You're telling me this is okay with you? Seeing her like that?
Lucas: No, it's not okay with me seeing her like this, but... all I'm saying is, man, it's something we should have expected.
Philip: Maybe you expected it. Not me. I will not let her suffer like this, Lucas.
Daniel: Do you understand what you're asking?
Philip: Yeah, I do. I'm asking you to make my Mother more comfortable if... if she doesn't have much time left anyway, then why does she have to go through all this? What the hell is the point?
Daniel: Stop. Stop telling me to give up on her just because it's difficult for you. Now, if we stop treatment, Kate will have a day, maybe two of feeling better, but after that, the cancer will come back more aggressively and she won't even have a chance at surviving -- zero chance. Now, is that what you want?
Daniel: I got to get back to work.
Philip: Daniel...my Mom can't fight the cancer, not like this. She just needs to get her strength back. Can't you -- I don't know -- pause the treatment, just for a little while?
Daniel: Like I said before, none of this is up to you. Not your decision to make.
Sami: How dare you. I've had to put up with a lot from you, but now you're insulting me? You know, I've only gained a couple pounds.
Rafe: You are pregnant. You are having a baby, Ms. Brady. You know it. I know it.
Sami: Oh, come on. I'm not really pregnant. If I was, I would be proud of it. I mean, having a baby is a-a-a miracle, a blessing, and it's something to be proud of and talk about and -- and I'm not and that's why I'm not.
Rafe: Would you let me finish? I'm sorry... for the way that I've been treating you. You know, I've been a little rough on you at times, especially considering your condition.
Sami: Listen, there is no condition.
Rafe: Do you think that I'm an idiot? What? Stop lying to me.
Sami: I thought you were gonna be nice to me. I thought you were sorry for treating me like this.
Rafe: Well, I am, but I am furious at you for not telling me about this. I mean, this puts a whole new slant on the way that we protect you. Had we known, we would have been able to --
Sami: What? You would have what? Made sure I had plenty of protein? Made sure I was taking my prenatal vitamins?
Rafe: Why didn't you tell anyone?
Sami: I did. I told my Dad. And he understands and respects my need for privacy and I expect you to do the same.
Rafe: Okay, and I expect you to cut the crap.
Sami: How dare you speak to me like that, especially now.
Rafe: How dare I? Because it never ends with you. You know, if you're not trying to slip drugs into someone's tea or sneak out or set fire to the place or hide a pregnancy, then you are lying to someone, which is really your talent, isn't it?
Sami: I thought you were going to be nice to me.
Rafe: Well, I changed my mind.
Sami: You had better stay away from me because I am this close to strangling you, Agent Hernandez.
Rafe: Oh, no. I am not gonna stay away from you. I'm not staying away from you until you tell me the truth, just once. Once.
Nicole: I don't care who killed Trent. I just don't want to go to prison for it, which, God willing, I won't now. Cause everything I care about is standing right in front of me.
Nicole: What's the problem?
Bo: No problem. Made some progress on your case.
Nicole: That's encouraging.
Bo: Talked to Judge Fitzpatrick and D.A. Jenkins.
Bo: I recommended that you be leased with a reasonable bail.
Hope: For now.
Nicole: Thank God.
Bo: That doesn't mean that the charges have been dropped, not by a long shot.
Nicole: Fine, whatever. Just get me out of here.
E.J.: I'll take care of the bail. I should get you out of here within an hour, darling.
Nicole: Thank you, E.J.
Nick: You're awfully quiet.
Melanie: Uh, honestly, Nick, I don't know what to say. I mean, you've let me stay here, and, um, you've taken care of me, and you've been really loyal.
Nick: I want to take care of you. Make you feel safe.
Melanie: I know. I know. It's just the pay and the ring -- it's just so much. It's like, um -- it's like you're being too kind.
Nick: There is such a thing?
Melanie: Yeah, kinda.
Nick: Or maybe I just see you the way others don't. See how amazing you are. I wish you could understand that. All this -- it's nothing. I would do so much for you than this. In fact... I already have.
Melanie: What do you mean by that -- you've done enough for me?
Nick: Nothing. Just that I ended up alienating some friends defending you.
Melanie: Of course. Chelsea and Max and Stephanie -- your best friends.
Nick: I'm not trying to upset you, Melanie.
Melanie: No, no, no, no. You're the one that should be upset. I'm sorry. I feel terrible that you fought with them over me.
Nick: Don't feel terrible. It really doesn't matter.
[Knock on door]
Melanie: Are you expecting somebody?
Hope: Hey, Nick.
Nick: Hey, Hope.
Nick: Come on in.
Hope: Melanie, how are you?
Melanie: Fine. Thanks for asking.
Hope: Your birthday?
Melanie: What tipped you off?
Hope: I hope it was a happy one.
Melanie: So far.
Hope: You and I need to talk.
Melanie: About what?
Hope: Actually, it's between Nick and me.
Lucas: Philip, he's on our side. Come on.
Philip: We're her sons. Surely we have a right to --
Daniel: No, you don't. Like I said before, whether or not Kate continues chemotherapy is her decision.
Philip: What if it's the wrong decision?
Lucas: Philip, please.
Philip: Answer me. What if it's the wrong decision?
Daniel: Look, I know you are only trying to protect her, but I have to advocate for your mother's right to make her own choice.
Lucas: What we're asking is maybe we could just slow it down a little bit.
Daniel: This will all have to wait until Kate wakes up. But we're doing nothing without her consent. I have work to do.
Lucas: Thank you.
Philip: I need to get some air.
Chloe: Are you okay?
Lucas: Yeah, I'm just gonna get some coffee. You want anything?
Chloe: Lucas, please talk to me.
Lucas: Not now, please.
Sami: My Dad knows the whole story, okay? And he's the one who told me not to tell the Feds. In fact, he didn't want me to tell anyone.
Rafe: Then you won't mind me calling him just to confirm the details now, would you?
Sami: Well, you can't do that, no.
Rafe: Why is that?
Sami: Because he'll be mad at me for telling you. It's a very complicated situation, and I don't have time to explain it to you right now. If you called my Dad, he would be really upset.
Rafe: Oh, I'm sure he'd be upset. He'd be upset because you didn't tell him! But, then again, you didn't tell anyone, did you? Well, seeing as though I figured this all out by myself, I will take the blame.
Sami: What are you talking about?
Rafe: Well, I'm about to have a long chat with your father about the situation.
Sami: Okay. Fine. Call him. It's your minutes.
Rafe: You know, this all could have been so simple. No, you had to be impossible.
Sami: Right, because I'm a thorn in your side, a handful, a piece of work. I know, agent broken record.
Rafe: What? Did you want to say something?
Sami: Please don't call him, all right? I-I'll come clean.
Nick: Look, now's not a really good time.
Melanie: It's fine. You guys, talk all you want. I'm gonna go for a walk and get some fresh air.
Hope: I apologize... for crashing the party. I'm sorry.
Nick: No, it's no problem. You want some cake, something to drink?
Hope: No, no, I'm good. Although it does look delicious.
Nick: So, what brings you by, Hope?
Hope: Just wanted to see how you were getting along with the whole family out of town.
Nick: You mean you're concerned about me and Melanie?
Hope: Somewhat. A girl like that --
Nick: Save it. She's innocent. Case closed. You arrested Nicole, so can you just lay off? Can you leave Melanie alone now?
Hope: About the charge against Nicole -- I wouldn't count on it sticking.
Chloe: Your sons love you so much, Kate. And that's a credit to you -- your big heart. And that's why they're having a hard time sitting by...watching you suffer. They want the doctors to ease , to pull back on the treatment. But you're not an ease-up kind of person, are you? You're a fighter. Now, I know what it takes to beat this thing. And that's why I'm urging you to fight like hell, Kate. You can't give up on the treatment. It's your only hope.
Philip: I got to hit you back.
Melanie: Oh, great.
Philip: Nice to see you, too, Melanie.
Melanie: Yeah, well, I just left one member of the "I hate Melanie fan club" just to run to the president.
Philip: I don't have time for this.
Melanie: Why so blue, Philip? Can't think of any way to ruin my life today?
Philip: As if you needed my help.
Melanie: You are a real bastard. Do you know that?
Philip: Be careful, Melanie.
Melanie: Or what?
Philip: Do you think this is about you? You think I give a damn what you're going through?
Melanie: Look, whatever your problem is, whatever's got you so bothered, I'm glad. Because you deserve it.
Philip: Really? Because I just found out my Mother is dying.
Sami: Okay. You're right. I'm pregnant. And nobody involved with the witness protection program, including my Dad, knows about it.
Rafe: Unbelievable. This compromises the entire operation. We have protocols set up, Ms. Brady, and if one peg falls out of place, and the whol-- look, you're not gonna cry again, are you?
Sami: You think I wanted it this way?
Rafe: Look, I'm sorry, okay?
Sami: I mean, you think I don't see how pathetic this is? That my -- my baby is -- is a precious life and I can't even celebrate it. I can't even be happy about it the whole time. I'm scared, and I'm sad, and I don't know what to do, and all I can think about is running away and -- and never coming back.
Rafe: Why running away?
Sami: Well, I know that the father -- the father of my baby and his whole stupid family is gonna destroy my child's future.
Rafe: That's why you didn't tell anybody.
Sami: I was going to. Mean, I was actually gonna do it right that day, the day that I saw the mayor shot and -- and the hit man, and now he can I.D. me, and now I'm stuck in this place with this guy who hates me.
Rafe: I never said that I hated you.
Sami: And I can't get the mayor's body out of my mind. You know, I think about it all the time, and I think about how that could be me next, and so I'm here with you and I don't get to see my family and I don't get to see my babies.
Rafe: It must be rough.
Sami: It is.
Rafe: Well -- well, this all makes sense now, though. It completely explains why you were such a control freak about everyone who was watching over you.
Sami: Well, yeah. [Sniffles]
Rafe: But it doesn't excuse the fact that you have been wrong, stupid, and irresponsible.
Sami: Oh, really? That is easy for you to say. You haven't had to deal with this baby's father. I mean, I'm sure you know who it is. He's infamous. He's notorious. He's nefarious. He's depraved. He's -- ugh, he's just --
Rafe: Who is it? Attila the Hun?
Sami: Close. E.J. DiMera.
E.J.: Home sweet home. All right, time for you to be pampered, young lady. Why don't you sit down? Okay? Now, you comfortable? Okay, at can I get for you? Look, um, are you all right? Nicole, when, uh, you found out that I believed you were innocent, you were really happy. And now you look...despondent. Are you happy that you're free?
Nicole: Of course I am. I'm happy. I'm excited that I wasn't guilty.
E.J.: But what?
Nicole: And I'm glad that you think I'm innocent now. But you didn't before. You thought I was actually capable of --
E.J.: Look, I did not know what to think, okay? Please...please don't hold...a little bit of initial confusion against me.
Nicole: You were more than confused. You didn't trust me. And you...probably won't believe what I have to say now.
E.J.: What's that?
Nicole: As much as I want to be here, E.J., I have to say goodbye.
E.J.: You're saying goodbye?
Nicole: I'm gonna go get my things.
E.J.: Nicole, just -- just wait. Come on, stop, all right? There is something else going on here.
Nicole: I've made my decision, E.J.
E.J.: Okay, all right. What about all of those emotional declarations that you just made? I mean, you told me that you were gonna test my theory. You know, that if we did what we needed to to make the baby happy, we might actually be happy ourselves. I mean...what was -- was that all a manipulation, you know? You need somebody to stay and fight your battles for you? And now you're out on bail, so, you know, screw E.J.
Nicole: You've got it all wrong, as usual.
E.J.: All right, well, what is it? Is it the money?
Nicole: No, no, I'm having your child, and as a DiMera heir, this kid is worth millions, so, no, it is not about the money. I will get my share. I'm not worried about that. W-whatever. I just --
E.J.: What then?
Nicole: I wanted you to want me, E.J. Me.
E.J.: Sweetheart, I did. I thought we --
Nicole: And then you suspected me of murder.
E.J.: I'm sorry. I, um -- I thought that we already had this conversation earlier. Maybe you weren't listening. But -- or maybe I was imagining it. I thought that we were finally beginning to understand one another. I mean, I thought that we were really, really finally beginning to connect to one another.
Nicole: I thought we were, too. For a minute, maybe, but then I sensed your ambivalence.
Nicole: Yes, yes. It's just such a struggle, E.J. I mean, you say -- you say such lovely things to me, and the you -- you disappear. Emotionally, you just go away.
E.J.: Look, maybe, you know, I know that, uh...I'm not the most demonstrative of people, but that doesn't mean --
Nicole: But you're still confused about me. You try to force yourself to have feelings for me because of this -- this baby, and while that happens for, like I said, about a minute, you go back to wondering how you got mixed up with the likes of me. You know, I'm just gonna get my stuff.
E.J.: Come on, just -- just -- I'm sor-- don't. Please. Don't.
Nicole: We don't always get...what we want, do we?
Sami: That man has ruined so many lives. Thank you. Stefano DiMera is sadistic. He's evil. And that's why I can't tell his son that I'm carrying another one of his children.
Rafe: So you used this bizarre, tragic incident to keep the truth from him.
Sami: Is that so wrong?
Rafe: No, actually. I don't think that it is.
Chloe: There was a time when I was so sick, when it was so bad that I just wanted to let go. But I would have to remind myself that there were people who loved me and needed me -- my parents, my little sister -- so I forced myself to focus on that. Your sons need you, Kate.
Philip: Anything more you want to say?
Melanie: I forgot about your mother. I hope you're wrong. I hope very much that your mother will be okay.
Nick: So, what are you saying? Nicole's no longer a suspect?
Hope: No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm simply telling you the case is not closed. Oh, God. You know something about Trent's murder, don't you?
E.J.: Stop for a second. You're right. I did. I became very distant at the jail. I just -- it was not the right place to express my feelings for you, okay? But -- but -- but this is. Just -- just don't go, please? Nicole, we have come a really long way since you were arrested, and I think we've begun to see and believe a lot more in each other . Wouldn't you agree? Come on, answer me.
Nicole: You know, you're saying all the right things now, E.J., but if this -- if this is to keep your unborn child nearby --
E.J.: It's not. The reality of the situation is when we're driving home and you're sitting there thinking about packing your bags and moving out, I'm having completely the opposite thoughts.
Nicole: The opposite.
E.J.: I was thinking about us getting married. A-a-and if we do that -- if we do that, I know that I, you know, won't just give you a home and security, but I know that I can give you love.
Lucas: What's going on?
Chloe: She's awake.
Lucas: Yeah, you're right. Hey. How's my Mom?
Kate: My beautiful boys.
Lucas: How you feeling?
Kate: I've been better.
Philip: Mom, this treatment, the chemo, that's what's making you so sick. You shouldn't have to suffer. You don't have to do this.
Kate: But I do.
Nick: I can't help you. I don't know anything about Trent Robbins' death.
Hope: No on is accusing you of anything.
Nick: So is this about Melanie? Is that why you're here?
Hope: Truth is -- my instincts about people like Melanie are rarely wrong.
Nick: "People like Melanie." What does that supposed to mean?
Hope: Having her in our life, it worries me.
Nick: [Chuckling] Oh. I get it. You're waiting for me to say something incriminating about her, throw her under the bus. That's what you want, isn't it? Want more fuel for your fire. You think I'm trying to protect her.
Hope: That's not what I'm saying.
Nick: Melanie did not kill her father, all right? So stop trying to make me say something that will prove otherwise. Stop trying to make me say she did it.
Melanie: Obviously I missed a few things.
Hope: No, actually, you didn't miss a thing. I was just on my way out. Take care... both of you.
Melanie: What the hell is her problem?
Nick: She was just fishing for info.
Melanie: No, she was trying to ruin me in your eyes. Look, Nick, I know you guys are related, but you can listen to her, okay? She's putting lies in your head.
Nick: She was trying to, yeah.
Melanie: And you're gonna let her? I mean, you don't really believe her, do you?
Nick: How can I... when I know the real truth?
Nicole: What are you saying? Are you telling me that u love me?
E.J.: I'm saying...that if you -- if you give us a chance, if you don't walk out that door, I know it's gonna take some time, but if we stay committed to each other...to being a family...then you and me and the little squirt down here and Johnny can have a wonderful, wonderful life.
Nicole: Do you really mean it? A-are you -- are you really willing to work on this?
E.J.: Of course I do. Why don't you believe me?
Nicole: You know why, E.J. because of Sami.
Sami: You really do understand?
Sami: [Sighs] You have no idea what I've been through.
Rafe: I can imagine.
Sami: You -- you really get it? You really get why I didn't tell E.J.?
Sami: You have no idea how relieved I am to hear you say that. I mean, I get it. There's still so much I have to figure out, you know, but I have no idea what I'm gonna do when they finally catch this killer.
Rafe: What do you mean?
Sami: Well, I have to figure out a credible way of making sure E.J. never finds out that this baby is his. Thank God now I've been given the time to do that.
Rafe: Uh, yeah, see, the thing is, um, you haven't been given any time.
Kate: I have to continue the treatment. It's my only option. Why would you want me to stop if it's my only chance?
Lucas: Because we hate seeing you like this.
Kate: It's the hand that we've been dealt. But I think it's gonna turn out for the best. 'Cause I think I'm gonna beat this. I think I'm gonna be cured.
Philip: Well, if that's your decision. We all just want you to get well again, mom. That's all.
Kate: I think this treatment's the best way to do that.
Philip: Then we're behind you 100%.
Daniel: It was you, wasn't it? You talked to Kate. Thank you.
Hope: Something's not right.
Bo: You think Nick's protecting her?
Hope: I love my cousin to death. Whatever the outcome is to all of this, his involvement with Melanie, it can on lead to disaster.
Melanie: What are you talking about, Nick? You know the truth about who killed my Father? How could you know that?
Nick: You didn't do it. I know that, Melanie. In my heart, I know that better than anything in this world.
E.J.: So, once again, this is about Samantha. She's the big obstacle.
Nicole: You know it, too, E.J. And please do not tell me she's the mother of your son, okay? I've heard it a million times. I know. I get it. I accept it. What I don't accept, what I can't accept is being the second woman in your life.
E.J.: You're not the second woman in my life.
Nicole: So you can really let go of Sami now and forever?
E.J.: Why don't you pay very close attention to this? Yes, I can. Now come here.
Rafe: I never thought I'd actually say this, but...I respect your decision.
Sami: Thank you, I think.
Rafe: But there is still an unborn child's life that's at risk here.
Sami: At risk.
Rafe: So whatever your reasons, I can't do it. I can't keep this between us, you know?
Sami: What are you doing? Are you calling my father?
Rafe: No, I'm phoning my superior.
Sami: Agent Hernandez --
Rafe: But I'll be honest with you -- it'll probably only take a couple hours before Commander Brady finds out and DiMera will be soon thereafter.
Sami: Oh, come on. You said you respected my decision. You can't do this.
Rafe: I do. I'm sorry. I have no choice, okay? I'm sorry. The truth has to come out.
E.J.: Nicole, I really don't know that much about you.
Nicole: Maybe that's a good thing.
Sami: Look, please just make sure that E.J. doesn't find out or my family. That's all I'm asking.
Rafe: It is out of my hands.
