Marlena: Mmm. Oh, John, I think that --
John: No. Don't think.
Lucas: [Clears throat] E.J.
Lucas: Did you finally get a chance to talk to Sami?
E.J.: Yeah. I did. Always full of surprises, isn't she?
Lucas: Yeah, that she is. So, you were cool with it when she told you?
E.J.: When she told me what?
Lucas: I thought you talked to her.
E.J.: I did. I talked to her a couple of times on the phone. She's supposed to be meeting me here, but she's late.
Lucas: Well, I'm sure she'll be here soon, then. [Clears throat]
E.J.: She's been acting very strangely, Lucas, even by her standards.
E.J.: Really. She didn't come home last night. And then when I spoke to her, she sounded frazzled. She said she had something very important to tell me.
Lucas: Oh, well, then I better go so you guys can talk.
E.J.: Just wait a second, Lucas. You obviously know why she wanted to meet me here, so please tell me what's going on.
Lucas: I don't know if I should be the one to tell you.
Nicole: I wish that could be us, kiddo. But, unfortunately, I don't think your daddy feels the same way. But... E.J. deserves to know that he's your father.
Sami: Let's see if your creepy grandfather remembered to pack your pacifier. What is this? I've never seen -- how am I gonna protect my children from Stefano DiMera?
Marlena: Mmm. Mmm. Mnh-mnh. Mnh-mnh. John --
John: Let's go upstairs.
Marlena: No, no, no. We can't.
John: Okay. But someone could walk in on us down here.
Marlena: No, that's not what I mean. I mean we shouldn't be doing this at all.
John: Why not?
Marlena: It's not right.
John: It feels right to me.
John: Why are you fighting this?
Marlena: I don't want this.
John: Oh, come on. You can't tell me you want a divorce after that kind of kiss.
Marlena: I-I do. I do. And I want you to take these papers, and I want you to sign them.
John: No. You're making a big mistake.
Marlena: The mistake that's being made around here is the fact that you won't go to the hospital and find out what's wrong with you.
John: It's because I'm fine.
Marlena: You're not fine. You're in so much pain you can't even see straight.
John: It's not a big deal. People have migraines all the time.
Marlena: No, no. Not like -- oh, my gosh, look. If you're unwilling to get yourself some help, there's no reason for me to stick around here. Oh! [Sighs]
John: What do I have to do to convince you to stay in this marriage?
Marlena: Go to the hospital. Get all those tests run. Find out what's causing all these problems for you.
Sami: Johnny must be home.
Johnny: So I told Allie to stop calling me. After all, I'd be mortified if anyone found out we were related. Hey! What are you doing?
Sami: You are too young to be smoking. Oh! And too young to be drinking.
Stefano: Ay, yi.
Johnny: Why do I even bother coming home?
Sami: What did I hear you saying about your sister?
Johnny: Nothing. Speaking of siblings, apparently I have another one on the way. Whose is it this time, Mother? Father's or Lucas'?
Sami: John, why are you being so hurtful?
Stefano: Samantha, why don't you take your miserable hysteria someplace else, huh, because my grandson and I have got to discuss his upcoming winter semester?
Johnny: Grandfather's gonna encourage my professors to give me straight A's.
Sami: Wait a second. Johnny, you are a smart boy. You could earn those A's on your own.
Johnny: Of course I can. But why waste our family's power and influence? We'd be stupid not to.
Sami: What happened to your morals? What happened to working hard?
Johnny: Are you sure you haven't been drinking, Mother?
Sami: Johnny. No.
E.J.: Stop avoiding my question, Lucas. Now, what is Samantha's important news?
Lucas: I really don't know.
E.J.: You don't know. You just said you hoped I was cool with it. Cool with what?
Lucas: [Exhales deeply] Well, I spoke to her earlier, and she just sounded like she was upset and worried about upsetting you, and that's about all she said.
E.J.: Really? She didn't give you a hint?
Lucas: No. No hints at all, and I didn't ask for any. I try to stay out of her drama.
E.J.: Lucas, I think that you know more than what you're saying.
Nicole: Oh, E.J. Oh, excuse me.
Lucas: Nicole. How you doing?
Nicole: I'm glad I found you.
E.J.: How did you find me?
Nicole: Your office said you had a meeting. Lucas, uh, I don't mean to be rude, but could you get lost? I need to talk to E.J.
Lucas: I got to pick up Allie from day care, anyway, so...
E.J.: We haven't finished speaking, Lucas.
Lucas: I think old Nicole here would disagree with you on that.
Nicole: You're very perceptive, Lucas.
Lucas: Yeah. See you guys later.
Nicole: I left you a message. Why didn't you call me back?
E.J.: I told you -- I was busy.
Nicole: Oh. Of course. You have a full life, don't you? Worrying about Sami. Then there's worrying about Sami. Oh, I almost forgot. There's worrying about Sami.
E.J.: She's the mother of my son, Nicole.
Nicole: Yeah, I've heard about a million times. [Sighs] Can we talk in private, please?
E.J.: I'm sorry. I already told you. I'm really busy right now.
Nicole: Well, you had time to talk to Lucas. In fact, you wanted to finish your conversation. What is he, your new BFF?
E.J.: Why are you suddenly being so hostile?
Nicole: Well, that's a damn good question. I mean, why on earth would I be hostile towards you, of all people? So, you walked out during our date last night without even saying goodbye. Hey, at least you showed up.
E.J.: I said goodbye, Nicole.
Nicole: Really? Did you get that on tape? Because all I heard was, "got to go. Sami needs me. I hope you don't mind eating alone."
E.J.: I didn't say that.
Nicole: That was the sub text.
E.J.: I'm sorry, Nicole. I've told you. I am meeting somebody here, and they're going to be here any moment.
Nicole: No, E.J. No. You are not gonna get rid of me that easily. We're gonna sit down, and you're gonna pay attention, okay? And when that person that you're meeting arrives, you're gonna tell him or her or whoever it is that you are in the middle of a very important conversation, a very important discussion -- a discussion that is life-changing.
E.J.: What are you talking about?
Nicole: Maybe if you gave it a modicum of thought, you would figure it out.
E.J.: Look, I understand that you're upset about our date last night.
Nicole: What date? We spent about 3 1/2 minutes together, and then you ran off to see your real girlfriend.
E.J.: Look, is this what you want to talk to me about -- our date -- because I can fix this, okay? We can reschedule another date, Nicole. What are you doing this weekend?
Nicole: I'm all booked up, E.J. I got Friday night with Leonardo. And the Jonas Brothers Saturday. You know, Kevin, Joe, and Nick. It's like a triple-date thing.
E.J.: I'm really sorry. I don't have time for this.
Nicole: Well, then, make time. Cancel your meeting. In fact, free up your entire day, because I have something important to tell you, and I'm not leaving until I do.
Marlena: I had a feeling that would be your response. But I had to try.
John: Because you care about me, right?
Marlena: I do.
John: Well, good. Then don't go through with the divorce.
Marlena: I am, John. I'd like you to sign those papers, then return them to Mickey, please.
John: Wait. Stay, please.
Marlena: There really is no reason, you know? We've said all there is to say. I want you to be the man that I married, and you're not willing to change.
John: But I-I'm willing to try.
Marlena: But not enough. I can't keep settling for less than I deserve.
John: Are you saying that I'm not good enough?
Marlena: [Scoffs] John, we just keep on hurting each other. I don't think we want to keep on doing that.
John: No. But when you were in the hospital, I realized what life was gonna be like without you, and that's when I made a decision to fight for this marriage.
Marlena: You don't even remember what you're fighting for.
John: I have instincts. And something told me that it would be a bad thing if I lost you.
Marlena: But that isn't enough to --
John: I can't lose...you! I can't -- I can't lose you. But apparently I can't... give you everything you need, either. You know why I can't go to the hospital. You know what Stefano did to me. But look at the changes I've already made. I've kept my hands clean in the DiMera Enterprise. I've made nice with Samantha and Elvis and the rest of your family. I did that for you. Now, what more do you want from me?!
Marlena: You know what I want from you. I want -- I want my husband back. Do you think that you could be that person?
Marlena: I didn't think so.
Marlena: I think that we've tried our best... and it wasn't meant to be. Please just sign the papers, and let's not make this any more difficult than it is.
John: No, I won't do that, because I can tell how much you still care about me, and that's okay, because I feel the same way about you.
Marlena: I know you think that you do.
John: Oh, trust me.
Marlena: I can't trust you or your feelings. I have no idea what's in your head, what's in your heart.
John: Well, I've -- I've been trying to tell you, but I-I just can't -- I can't find the right words sometimes.
Marlena: I -- I can't -- I can't argue anymore. I'm just too tired.
John: Blondie -- Blondie --
Marlena: Look, just... see a doctor, John, please. Find out what's causing the headaches before it's too late for you.
John: [Mumbling] "Divorce..." no. I won't lose! [Vase shatters]
E.J.: Look, I'm sorry. I know this isn't exactly private, but, uh, I'm supposed to be meeting my client here in a little bit.
Nicole: I'm sorry I gave you hell earlier, not that you seem fazed by it, stoic brick that you are.
E.J.: I'm not that stoic. Look, Nicole, my leaving last night had absolutely nothing to do with you, all right? I was really looking forward to spending the evening with you.
Nicole: But you spent it with Sami instead.
E.J.: No, look, not the entire evening. I just went there, I saw her, and then I left. The whole thing was very fast.
Nicole: So, what happened? What was the big emergency?
E.J.: Oh. She fainted, and they had to take her to the hospital.
Nicole: "Fainted," as in "dead away"?
E.J.: Is there any other way to faint?
Nicole: Well, why did it happen?
E.J.: I don't know. I'm hoping she's going to tell me that when she gets here.
Nicole: Oh, my God. She's the one you're meeting here?
E.J.: Yes. Nicole, I'm sorry. She told me she needs to speak to me about something, and she says it's really important, and I am terrified that it's got something to do with Johnny.
Nicole: Oh, don't use your son as a cover.
E.J.: Nicole, that is what binds Samantha and me -- our son. It's the only reason that I care about her -- because we share this child. If she's in trouble or if she needs to talk to me, then I'm going to make that a priority.
Nicole: That's a deal breaker for me.
E.J.: What do you mean by that?
Nicole: If this is gonna work between us, E.J., Sami cannot be a part of our lives.
E.J.: I have already told you that that is impossible.
Nicole: I shouldn't have come here. I don't know what I was thinking.
E.J.: Nicole, look. Listen to me. My son is the most important thing in the whole world to me. You can't ask me to cut his mother out of my life.
Nicole: Yeah, I know.
Man: Please. No. It's all just a misunderstanding.
Stefano: We don't want to hear any more of your pathetic excuses.
Man: You can't do this. I have a wife and kids.
Johnny: You should have thought of that before you double-crossed the DiMeras.
Man: No, there's been a mistake. Johnny, please.
Stefano: Go ahead. Give him what he deserves, Giovanni. [Gasps] No. Please!
Sami: No! No! No!
Sami: No! [Exhales deeply]
Lucas: What? What is it? Are you all right? I heard a scream or something.
Sami: Lucas, I have to find some way to protect my children from Stefano.
E.J.: Please just sit down. Please. Nicole, I thought that you understood my situation.
Nicole: I understand perfectly. Every time you claim you're over Sami, the minute she calls, you go running.
E.J.: Look, I am really, really sorry if I hurt your feelings last night.
Nicole: Hurt my feelings? No, E.J., my feelings are hurt when Pookie doesn't wag her tail when I walk in the room. What you did to me... was humiliating... and horrible, and I will never allow you to put me through that again.
E.J.: But Samantha was in the hospital.
Nicole: With a case of the vapors.
E.J.: What are the vapors? I don't even know what that means.
Nicole: What that means, you English twit, is that -- [Exhales deeply] you would make any excuse to spend time with that woman.
E.J.: That is not true. The reason I went after Samantha last night was because I thought there was something terribly wrong.
Nicole: [Scoffs] This is all my fault. This is all my fault. I let you ping-pong between me and Sami for months, degrading myself by allowing you to play these stupid manipulative games.
E.J.: What games?
Nicole: "What games?" Pretending that you like me and then not calling me for days on end. And then when you finally make a date with me, you run after Sami without as much as a goodbye. You know, I'm not standing for it.
E.J.: Just -- just -- just -- just -- [Exhales deeply] Look. I'm -- I'm really -- I'm really sorry if I've been giving you mixed signals.
Nicole: [Scoffs] What you've been giving me are lies and insults, pretending that I mean something to you. And all I mean to you is -- you know, E.J., it's gonna stop right here. You are gonna make a decision. What's it gonna be? Who do you want to build a life with? Sami... or me?
Sami: How are the twins?
Lucas: They're fine. How you doing?
Sami: I'm okay. I'm better. I was just freaking out because of the nightmare. It just -- it seemed so real.
Lucas: Right. What was it about?
Sami: I was dreaming about Johnny... seeing him as he grew up and how he was becoming more and more like Stefano. He wasn't listening to me. Then he's drinking, and then -- and then he shot someone in cold blood. It --
Lucas: Don't worry about it. I know you're worried. Just relax. It's just a dream. You'll raise him the right way.
Sami: What if I can't? Lucas, I am terrified that I will not be able to protect him from Stefano.
Lucas: We just won't let that happen, all right? I'll -- I'll do my best. I'll help you.
Sami: I don't know if we can stop Stefano. And I think he knows I'm pregnant.
Lucas: Come on. Why would you say that? Did he say anything?
Sami: Yeah. He said that he hopes E.J. and I give him more heirs, and then he was looking at my stomach, and it was creepy, and I just think he knew.
Lucas: You better tell E.J... before his daddy tells him.
Sami: I don't know if I can do that. I mean, this is Stefano we're talking about. I'm already worried sick about Johnny. If I have to protect another baby from Stefano... I just don't know if I can put this new baby in jeopardy like that.
E.J.: Nicole, please tell me you are not asking me to choose between you and Samantha.
Nicole: Is this too stressful for you?
E.J.: No. It's just I would like both of you to be in my life.
Nicole: That's too bad, E.J. That's not gonna work.
E.J.: I see. So you're gonna give me an ultimatum. Is that right?
Nicole: Look, I understand you're connected to Sami because of your kid. But you cannot be in love with both of us. That's not gonna cut it for .
E.J.: I'm not saying that it is, but the whole situation with the two of you emotionally is very complicated.
Nicole: Well, then un-complicate it. E.J., look, I'm -- I'm not saying you have to cut out Sami completely. You can't. I realize that. Sami will always be around because of Johnny, and I guess I -- I guess I just have to accept that, but... [Sighs] what I need to know is... who has your heart?
E.J.: I'm sorry. You're gonna think I'm a real selfish bastard for saying this, but can we just please let it be for right now? Please?
Nicole: You're right. You do sound like a selfish bastard, and, no, we cannot just let it be for now. I would rather -- I would rather never see you again than feel the way I did -- ever again.
E.J.: Nicole, you are putting me in an impossible situation.
Nicole: Oh, I'm sorry. Let's make this all about you and your discomfort. Poor E.J.
E.J.: Nicole, this is a new relationship -- you and I -- and I'm sorry. I need to know where it's going before I make some kind of commitment.
Nicole: It's a dirty word, isn't it?
E.J.: Nicole, I think -- I think you are wonderful... and I care about you very much. You know that.
Nicole: No, I don't.
E.J.: Come on.
Nicole: No. You come on. You can flatter me until you're blue in the face... but it doesn't mean anything, E.J. Don't you get that? I want more. I want to be with you. I really want to be with you. But if you don't feel the same way, I need to know now.
E.J.: I... care about you and Samantha very much.
Nicole: I guess I have my answer.
E.J.: I'm sorry.
Nicole: Don't be. You were just being honest, and I appreciate that.
E.J.: Nicole... you said you had something important you wanted to tell me. What was it?
Nicole: It doesn't matter anymore.
Stefano: La-la-la la-la-la la-la-la la la-la-la la-la-la la-la-la hello, John. How is your headache?
Stefano: Well, that's good to hear. It's such a beautiful day outside. You know, you really should go outside and get some fresh air.
Stefano: I, uh, took little Giovanni for a stroll. Let me tell you, we had such a wonderful afternoon. It really does my heart good to spend time with my grandson. It's too bad that little Claire is not around. You must miss her.
Stefano: You know, I already know that Giovanni is very intelligent. We were driving past this --
John: I don't care.
Stefano: Oh. You are in a very foul mood. Could it be because of Marlena, because I saw her drive off the property earlier?
John: Well, that's none of your business.
Stefano: Ah. I touched a nerve, huh? Let me offer you some brotherly advice.
John: This ought to be good.
Stefano: Stay away from Marlena. She's a dangerous woman, and she will destroy your life.
E.J.: Hey, you haven't seen Samantha by any chance, have you?
Marlena: No. Why?
E.J.: Uh, I'm just trying to get hold of her. Nothing important.
E.J.: Is something wrong?
Marlena: There is. I need your help.
E.J.: Of course.
Stefano: I'm serious, John. Dr. Marlena Evans can be your downfall if you are not careful. I am not sure if you're aware of it or not, but I was, uh -- ha ha -- I was once in love with her.
John: I believe the word "obsessed" was tossed around a few times.
Stefano: [Chuckles] Nonsense. I just happen to do things on a grander scale than most people, see? And sometimes it is taken the wrong way.
John: If you say so.
Stefano: All my efforts came to naught. She turned on me. You know what she did to me, John. I was in a catatonic state for months because of her.
John: She was just protecting me.
Stefano: And now she is rejecting you. It is absolutely ridiculous for you to pine for her. I suggest that you sign the divorce papers -- huh? -- And finally get rid of this ugly episode in your life.
John: And how did you know about the divorce papers?
Stefano: [Exhales deeply] [Glass clinks] I know everything, John. It would do you well to remember that.
Lucas: I know that you're scared, but it doesn't change the fact that you got to tell E.J. about his kid. Sami, it's the right thing to do.
Sami: It's easy for you to talk like a saint. This isn't your kid.
Lucas: Well, you know what? I'd like to think it makes me more objective.
Sami: Don't you think everyone's life would be better if we still thought Johnny was your child? It's only after we found out that it was E.J.'s that everything went wrong. We would still be together right now, Lucas. Everything was ruined because of that one simple truth.
Lucas: I don't know about that. I think you're exaggerating now.
Sami: I don't think so. I think it's obvious. It may be too late for Johnny, but it is not too late for this baby growing inside of me.
Lucas: What do you mean?
Sami: I'm going to protect my child. And after seeing Stefano with Johnny today, my decision is clear. I am not gonna tell E.J. that he is the father of my baby.
E.J.: So, how can I help you?
Marlena: Well, it isn't actually me. It's John. He's been having these episodes where he has overpowering headaches. They were so bad that he passed out at the Brady Pub once and had to be taken to the hospital. Didn't Anna tell you this?
E.J.: I haven't seen Anna for a while.
Marlena: Hmm. Well, in any event, Kayla ran a series of brain scans, and the results came back from the x-rays, and they were very unusual.
E.J.: Unusual? Serious unusual?
Marlena: Well, we can't tell, because he refuses to have any more tests run.
E.J.: Well, that's my uncle -- stubborn.
Marlena: Yeah. This time stubborn may get him killed.
E.J.: You think that his condition could be life-threatening?
Marlena: We won't know unless the doctors do a whole series of follow-up tests. We need a complete evaluation. I'm trying to persuade him, but I've had no luck.
E.J.: So, what would you like me to do?
Marlena: I'd like you to convince John to have the tests run.
Nicole: John. Oh, my God. What happened?
John: It's -- it's my skull.
Nicole: I'll call an ambulance. [Beeping]
John: Hang up. Hang up.
John: Hang up!
Nicole: Are you sure?
John: Just do it -- now. Hang up.
Nicole: Uh, I-I'm sorry. Everything's fine. I'm sorry. [Beep] Your headaches are getting worse, aren't they? John!
John: Yes, Einstein, my headaches are worse.
Nicole: Well, you really need to get them checked out.
John: Why does everybody think these migraines are some kind of a death sentence for me?
Nicole: Well, because when I get headaches, I'm not writhing on the floor like a dying fish. That's not normal.
John: I'm not normal.
Nicole: I know.
John: If it'll make you feel any better, I'll make an appointment and have myself checked out tomorrow, okay?
John: So... what are you doing here?
Nicole: I, uh, I came by to tell you our deal's off. I don't need your help to get E.J. anymore.
John: And why is that?
Nicole: Because I've changed my mind. I don't want him a part of my life or my baby's.
Lucas: Just be reasonable, all right? Don't let fear drive you into a bad decision -- one you'll end up regretting.
Sami: I am sure about this decision. I am going to help my child have a happy, normal life -- a life free from the influence of the evil DiMeras. If I can keep Stefano in the dark, then I can protect my baby.
Lucas: Fine. Then don't tell Stefano. But you got to come clean with E.J.
Lucas: What? You really don't think he's got a right to know?
Sami: I'm not gonna fight with you about this, Lucas. I have made my decision, and I'm asking you to respect that.
Lucas: Well, I'm sorry. I can't do that.
Sami: Well, then, this is none of your business, so butt out.
Lucas: I am sorry, Sami. I am. But if you're not gonna tell E.J. that you're pregnant with his child, then I guess I will.
Sami: You wouldn't dare.
Lucas: I wouldn't? Come on.
Sami: Lucas. No way! Lucas, come back here! We have to talk about this!
John: Didn't you just tell me that you were going to tell him about the baby, no matter what, that it was the right thing to do?
Nicole: It hurts too much to do the right thing. I tried to be good, but it's just not worth it.
John: Yes. I know what you mean.
Nicole: Besides... I'm not convinced that I want this baby to know who his or her father is. The DiMera family is pretty messed up, no offense.
John: [Chuckles] None taken.
Nicole: I'm so angry that I have these feelings for E.J. I know how much he hurts me, and -- I have no willpower when it comes to that jerk.
John: Well, for what it's worth, I believe that he has made an uninformed decision.
Nicole: Thanks. I know. I should be strong and say that I don't need him and I don't want him, but [Exhales deeply] I still do.
John: You know, it's going to be very rough raising this child on your own, especially now that Kiriakis has taken back that divorce settlement.
Nicole: Aren't you just a ray of sunshine?
John: No. I'm just giving you the facts. I mean, you don't have any income. You don't have anyone to help you pay your bills.
Nicole: I'll figure something out.
John: Perhaps I can help. I have lots of money.
Nicole: No. No. I don't want your handouts.
John: I'm just trying to do a good deed here.
Nicole: I appreciate that, but I'll be fine.
John: According to Blondie and almost everyone else, since I've been back, I haven't done anything very nice, and this is my opportunity. I'm in a position to help you.
Nicole: Your offer means a lot to me, John, and I-I can tell that you're sincere and... strangely nice, but I-I don't -- I don't want your money. What I do want... I want your friendship. I could really, really use that right now.
Marlena: John's life could be at stake.
E.J.: Look, I'm sorry, Marlena.
Marlena: Let you tell you something. You've got a chance to do something good. It would mean so much to me. It would mean so much to Sami, too. You could do something wonderful and honorable for Sami and little Johnny, hmm?
E.J.: [Laughs] You play dirty, Marlena.
Marlena: When it's important. Come on. What do you say?
E.J.: Sure. I'll give it a shot.
Marlena: Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Bo: If we don't make any progress, Ma is gonna end up behind bars again.
Roman: Yeah, only this time, it could be for good.
Max: How's that for a headline?
Stephanie: Oh, my God.
Max: Nice, huh?
Nick: Am I in trouble?
Roman: That would be a pretty good assumption.
Nick: It's because of me that Trent Robbins is dead.
