Hope: Okay, so, we have 48 hours to find out who's really responsible for Paul's disappearance.
Bo: Well, Roman knows that Philip didn't kill anyone. I don't care what it says on that tape.
Hope: So now that he knows that you have it and it wasn't really destroyed --
Bo: Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's got to do what he's got to do.
Hope: Yeah, he'll have no choice but to submit it into evidence.
Bo: Then Philip goes to jail and the real perp -- I.E. John -- goes free.
Hope: Yeah, well, it's hard to believe that John would do anything to Hollingsworth. I mean, granted, he is a far cry from the man we once knew.
Bo: Who else would want to frame Philip? It's got to be John.
Hope: The hard part will be proving it. He's good at covering his tracks, and two days isn't a lot of time.
Bo: Tell me about it.
Hope: Brady...what if we can't prove it? You could lose your badge. Or worse.
Bo: So could you. You're in this almost as deep as I am.
Hope: All right, you know what? Let's just stay focused on our objective and hopefully that won't happen. Where's Philip anyway? Didn't he say he was on his way?
Bo: Yeah, he did. And he said he didn't want me to take the fall for this. I wonder what he had in mind.
Philip: Morgan. How are you?
Morgan: Not too good, Philip. But then, you already knew that, didn't you?
Kate: Thank you.
Chelsea: Hey. Um, what's going on?
Kate: Hey, sweetie. Nothing much. We were just talking about this whole horrible lock down situation, but thank God no one was hurt.
Chelsea: Yeah, thank God. I can't believe that Stefano's back.
Kate: No, I-I don't think anyone can.
Chelsea: Yeah, well, I don't really want to talk about that.
Daniel: So, how's work going?
Chelsea: Work is... work's great. Um, I was actually just about to say goodbye to a patient when I saw you two...talking.
Kate: Yeah, well, I was waiting for Philip to be ready to leave.
Chelsea: Oh, I was just talking to him.
Chelsea: Listen, Daniel, uh, I was just -- how would you feel about sneaking away with me for a little bit?
Daniel: Well, dinner sounds great. Yeah, I have a consult and then I was gonna go back to my place and change for a board meeting about the hospital's green conversion program.
Chelsea: Well, I'm done now.
Kate: Okay, well, I should probably get Philip out of here.
Chelsea: All right, we'll see you.
Chelsea: Okay, so, how about this -- um, why don't I meet you at your place and then we can see what happens?
Daniel: Yeah, that sounds great. I will, um, see you there, okay?
Chelsea: Uh, I need a key.
Daniel: Oh, yeah, sure. Sure, sure, sure. Well, you know what? You help yourself to whatever you want, all right? I shouldn't be long.
Chelsea: I'll be waiting.
Daniel: I'll be there.
John: Blondie. About that earlier, I'm sorry. I-I didn't mean to upset you. I just want you to know that whatever happens, I'm going to protect you from Stefano. So as soon as they let you out of here, I want you to come home with me.
Marlena: I'm sorry, John. I can't do that.
John: Well, why not? I mean, what's the problem? Didn't you like it when you lived there before?
Marlena: No, it's not that.
John: Oh. Well, I thought we got along pretty well under the circumstances. Just leave that alone. Listen, if it's the cigar smoke, I can go outside.
Marlena: It's not the smoke. It's not the smoke. It's just...I'm not ready. That's all.
John: Oh, that's understandable. The bastard...poisoned you, practically put you into a coma for life. It'll probably take a little time before you recover.
Marlena: It's not that. I should tell you something. I wasn't in a coma. I-I mean I was...I was paralyzed. And I couldn't speak. I couldn't communicate. But, I mean, my mind was awake and alert.
John: I know. Sounds like hell.
Marlena: Yeah. Well, the thing is, that, um, when you're in that kind of position, you have all these thoughts that are racing around in your brain, and that when there's no one else to hear them, then you tend to hear them yourself.
John: Okay, and...what were those thoughts saying to you?
Marlena: John... look... as much as you don't want to accept this or I didn't want to accept it, the fact is you are not the man that I married. You just aren't. You're never going to be. The truth is, we barely even know each other.
John: Uh, I think you need to slow down a little bit and just hear me out now. See, I've been doing a little thinking myself.
Marlena: You said...you said to me that you had some conversations with people that weren't even meant to be there, and that was just that gas or whatever it was that Stefano piped into the hospital when we were in shutdown. That's -- you know, that's what -- that's what got to you.
John: It got to me, yes, but not the way you think. I realized how much I care about you. And I made a decision right then and there that if you woke up, if you pulled out of this, that things were going to be different.
Marlena: Oh, John --
John: Now, I know that what you did to Stefano is because of what he did to me. And, yes, he made me a different person, and perhaps you thought that that guy didn't care, but I do. Now, everybody keeps telling me about how the old John protected you. Well, I'm here to tell you right now that the new John will do the same thing, and part of that is making sure that we're together.
Marlena: Oh, my gosh. I'm so sorry. That isn't what I want.
John: I don't think you know what you're talking about.
Marlena: I told you I had lots of time to think.
John: And you were under the influence of some very powerful toxins.
Marlena: No, I was lucid.
John: Well, you're not making any sense now. So if it wasn't whatever Stefano injected you with, it had to be the fumes from the lock down.
Marlena: No. No. I am not under the influence of any mind-altering substance.
John: Well, then, I don't understand. Because I know how much you want us to be together. It's all you've ever talked about since I've known you.
Marlena: Since you've known me? Oh, my gosh, John. I have loved you over half of my life.
John: I'm sorry. Not what I mean.
Marlena: No. No! No. You know what? You're right. Don't apologize 'cause you are so right. It's true. We have just met recently. We don't even have that much in common.
John: Yes, these doctors need to run more tests. And once they do and you're thinking clearly, then we'll revisit this conversation.
Roman: Hey. Hope I'm not interrupting, but i had to come up when I heard the good news. Damn, I'm glad you're okay. You had us concerned.
Marlena: I'm so glad you came by.
Roman: So...you're really okay?
Marlena: I am really okay.
John: I don't think so.
Marlena: John thinks that I am having some -- some symptoms, some reaction to the toxins that Stefano gave me.
John: I just think we need to run some tests to make sure.
Roman: Why? What's going on?
John: Because she's not thinking clearly.
Marlena: I am thinking more clearly than I've ever thought. I'm finally seeing things for what they are, not for the way that I want them to be.
Roman: What kind of things, Doc?
Marlena: I've made some decisions about my life and my future and the person with whom I would like to spend it. I'm so sorry, John. But right now...you don't seem to be that person.
[Slow-tempo music plays]
Daniel: Hey, I thought you were taking Philip home.
Kate: Well, yes, I was, but he called for the car and went over to the Brady Pub.
Daniel: Well, then, you should be pleased. That means he's strong and hungry.
Kate: Look, I'm glad that I ran into you again.
Daniel: This is still about Chelsea, isn't it?
Kate: Yes, it is. I think she suspects something.
Philip: I really wish you believed me. Despite what I said to your father on that tape --
Morgan: Yeah, I know. You didn't mean it, and you had nothing to do with my Father's disappearance.
Philip: That's the truth.
Morgan: I don't know what to say to you, Philip. You took a bullet for me. You saved my life. I thought you cared about me.
Philip: I do care.
Morgan: But then I find out that you threatened to kill my Father. It's you and not John who's suspect number one, or at least would be if the police knew what was on that tape.
Philip: Morgan, I swear to you --
Morgan: I just want to know...how did you do it? Hmm? Did you strangle my Father? Did you shoot him before you threw him in the river where the cops found his jacket?
Philip: Do you honestly think I'm capable of doing something like that?
Morgan: You are not a man of idle threats. You're a Kiriakis. You did what any Kiriakis would do to someone who caused him enough trouble.
Philip: You really don't know me at all, do you?
Morgan: Apparently not.
Philip: Morgan, listen to me.
Morgan: I wish I believed you, Philip. Because you know what? Even after everything's said and done, I-I still cannot help but feel the way that I do.
Philip: [Sighs] If I didn't care about you, Morgan, I never would have told you what was on that tape.
Morgan: You threatened to kill my Father. This is not a game to me.
Philip: No, it's not a game. And I don't want you to think I was playing you 'cause I wasn't.
Morgan: I don't know what to think except that I was very naive about you, about us, about everything. Even down to my...fantasy.
Philip: What fantasy?
Morgan: You know what? It doesn't matter. 'Cause it turns out that's all it'll ever be.
Give it up break the mold take the edge off all that noise turn it down feel the quiet in between what you say and what you mean truth be told, you can't hold back crash or burn and do it anyway what, not now what's the wait? Take the fall and make it beautiful la la la la
Philip: Hey. Thanks for waiting. I got a little hung up.
Bo: Yeah, sure. What did you want to talk about?
Philip: Well, I told you when I called. This situation's gone far enough.
Bo: I agree.
Philip: Bo, I can't let you do this. It's my mess, and I need to take responsibility for it, even if that means getting arrested.
Daniel: Why would she suspect anything?
Kate: I don't know. I don't know, but there was just something in her voice and the way that she was looking at us that made me --
Daniel: You're being paranoid, Kate. You are worried that she knows because you're terrified of what it will do.
Kate: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Maybe you're right. Maybe I am imagining it.
Daniel: Yeah, you are. Look, Chelsea and I weren't even together when you and I were...
Kate: But she always sees us talking together.
Daniel: Yes, yes, about her, about Philip, about victor. Look, Kate, you just need to relax. Chelsea will never know.
Kate: She can't ever know because I don't think she would ever forgive us if she did.
Without the moon, there is no sun shining without you, there is no reason to fall in love forever
John: Well, clearly, even you can see that she's confused. She doesn't know what she's talking about.
Marlena: But I do. You just don't want to accept it.
Roman: Well, it appears to me, Doc, that you're not the only one who's had a change of heart.
John: Well, let's just say that I've woken up, seen the errors of my ways.
Marlena: I promised myself that if I survive this business with Stefano, I would find the courage to make changes in my life.
John: And just like that you're giving up?
Marlena: I don't see it that way.
John: Well, I do see it that way. Because you've always told me that I was the one great love of your life. So you tell me, how do you just move on from that?
Marlena: I've done that before. You were not the only great love of my life. Before you, there was Roman. Long before you.
John: Roman. Ah, you can't be serious.
Roman: Well, John, you do remember that doc and I were married at one time, right?
John: Oh, of course. I just never thought that...
Roman: Never thought what?
Marlena: That I really loved you. Did you? I loved him very much. I thought he would be the one great love of my life. But things change.
John: So what happened?
Marlena: You happened. You came along. And, well, at the time -- it's a long story, but at the time, I believed that you were Roman.
John: Oh, yeah, so I've heard. However, I find that kind of hard to believe. No offense.
Roman: None taken, believe me, John.
Marlena: The point is -- the point is that when I accepted the fact that the man that I loved was -- was gone, I was able to move on, and I fell in love again.
John: So why is it you can't do that with me now?
Marlena: Well, the difference is that I don't love the man that you are now.
John: Oh, this is crazy. You know what I think? I think that right now you shouldn't be making any life-changing decisions. You need to sleep on it back at the mansion with me while you're recuperating.
Marlena: I told you, I'm not doing that. I'm not going to the mansion with you. I want to go home.
John: I can't let you do that, not while Stefano is at large. It just isn't safe.
Roman: John's right about that, Doc. You can't be by yourself right now. It's out of the question.
John: I can protect you. See?
Roman: At Stefano's mansion where he knows and has access to every way in and out?
John: Not anymore. I've developed a whole new security system.
Roman: Oh, you really think that's gonna stop him?
Marlena: Please, please, please. You're both upsetting me now.
John: Yeah, stop upsetting her. The doctor said not to do that.
Roman: John, I think you're the one who's upsetting her.
Marlena: You are both upset-- you're both upsetting me.
Roman: All right. I'm sorry about that, Doc.
John: Can I have a word with you outside, please?
Roman: Sure. I'll be right back.
John: So blind.
John: You're enjoying this, aren't you?
Roman: What the hell are you talking about, John?
John: Well, you think it means something, like maybe you can have another shot at her? I know that's what you've been wanting ever since she dumped you for me.
Roman: First of all, that wasn't you.
John: Oh, let's not get nit picky. Just back off.
Roman: All right, John. Listen to me here. All I want is what's best for her -- for her happiness, for her safety. And the way she's talking, that's not you right now.
John: I can take care of her.
Roman: John, you are in trouble with the law six ways to Sunday. That doesn't inspire a hell of a lot of confidence.
John: I still maintain my innocence, which will be proven in due course. In the meantime, stay away from my wife.
[Door opens, closes]
Daniel: You weren't in the, uh...the living room. I...I thought we were gonna have dinner.
Chelsea: Well...I think that what I have planned might be just as satisfying. More so.
Chelsea: No. Don't talk.
heaven hangs so soft and low
Daniel: Are you sure?
Chelsea: Yeah. Then if you talk, you know, you're gonna spoil the moment. Then before you know it, you'll have to go back to work for that meeting. And the, uh -- the opportunity will have past.
Daniel: Now who's talking?
December rain you're dark and beautiful like December rain
Daniel: Do not move. I'll be right back.
December rain [Door opens, closes] December rain [Water running] [ Cellphone ringing]
Chelsea: Hey, Daniel? Of course, with my luck, he'd be getting paged right now. [Ringing continues]
Bo: Listen, I get that you're trying to do the right thing here, but don't worry. I got it under control.
Philip: You're being investigated by internal affairs for concealing evidence and that's just the beginning.
Bo: Besides us, your mom, Victor, Roman is the only one who knows what was on that tape. And until we find out who's behind Paul's disappearance and who's trying to frame you, it's gonna stay that way.
Philip: You have to know, Bo, I never would have asked you --
Bo: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know that. Victor asked me.
Philip: Yeah, but... it was wrong, you know? To guilt you into making that decision, to put you in that position.
Bo: Listen to me, man. I did what I thought was best for the situation, so it's my responsibility for whatever happens.
Delivery Guy: Excuse me. Are you Philip Kiriakis?
Philip: Who wants to know?
Delivery Guy: This is for you.
Philip: Well, here we go. I've been subpoenaed by the grand jury.
Hope: I hope you don't mind my joining you. Philip wanted some time alone with his brother. And he mentioned that you were pretty upset.
Morgan: Yeah, well, I don't like not knowing what happened to my Father.
Hope: I can only imagine what you're going through. But I hope you realize that Bo and I are doing everything we possibly can, working very hard to find out.
Morgan: Are you?
Hope: Obviously you heard what happened at the church.
Morgan: Yeah, a reporter came in and busted your husband for withholding evidence.
Hope: Because he honestly believes that someone is trying to frame Philip.
Morgan: That tape exists. Philip told me. He threatened to kill my Father.
Hope: You don't believe that Philip's capable of murder.
Morgan: I don't know what Philip's capable of. I mean, after all, he is a Kiriakis.
Hope: Yes, he is a Kiriakis. And Philip may have Victor's ambition and drive. He may even have done some things that aren't aboveboard, but he's no killer. Bo never would have done what he did if he didn't believe that, too.
Daniel: What, did something happen?
Chelsea: Yeah, you could say that.
Daniel: Chelsea, w--
Chelsea: You got a text message. "Daniel, thank you for tonight, although I think it's best we never speak of what happened between us again." It's from Kate.
Daniel: Chelsea, look, I can explain.
Chelsea: You know what? Don't. You're a son of a bitch.
Daniel: Chelsea, just let me -- just -- I'm -- [Door slams]
John: You're not needed here anymore, commander.
Roman: John, I think you're the one who's not needed here. I think Marlena made it very clear she doesn't want a whole lot to do with you right now. Doc, we're sorry we were upsetting you.
John: Don't apologize for me. I'm sorry for the way that I've treated you. And if you felt angry or hurt, I don't blame you because...you made me feel the same way.
Marlena: How did I do that?
John: By admonishing me with your constant comparisons and expectations. By making me feel like I had been competing with a ghost, with some other self that I would never know or understand. So instead of acquiescing, I fought even harder to distance myself to form my own identity. And in that process, I pushed you away.
Marlena: You pushed me away. I tried so hard.
John: I know you did, so don't stop now. Because if you don't, maybe we can find a way to bring him back.
Marlena: Oh, John, I'm so sorry. There is no way to bring him back. The disk is gone.
Roman: No. Come on, Doc. It's with the ISA. You remember that. They're working on repairing it.
Marlena: No. Stefano has it now.
John: What are you two talking about?
Roman: That's -- that's impossible. That can't be, Doc.
Marlena: It's true. He was in here during the lock down. He showed it to me -- the same one. I recognized the way it was broken.
Roman: That son of a bitch.
Marlena: So there is no way to get the old you back. Stefano was gonna make very sure that never happens. See, so no matter what you do or what you try...you're never gonna be your old self again.
John: So, Stefano has the disk. Okay. I'll just get it back from him.
Roman: John, you know he's already destroyed it.
John: Doesn't matter anyway, Blondie. I'm not giving up. Not on myself or you.
Marlena: John, you're wasting your time as far as I'm concerned.
John: Oh, I don't think so. How many times have you told me that the old John is still inside here somewhere? If that's true, we'll find a way to get him out, through therapy or whatever. I mean, you are a psychiatrist, right?
Marlena: We tried that.
John: Well, let's try it again.
Marlena: It's not that simple.
John: I think it is. I want to be there for you now, just like you tried to be there for me then. I want to protect you from Stefano. Please, just...come back to the mansion with me at least until he's apprehended.
Marlena: I need some time. Let me think about it.
John: Of course. Let's go.
Marlena: No. I need Roman to stay.
Kate: Hey, baby. I got your message and came back. Thought you were having dinner with Daniel, though.
Chelsea: No, change of plans.
Kate: Oh. So, what did you want to see me about?
Chelsea: I know.
Kate: You know what, honey?
Chelsea: I know about you and Daniel.
Philip: What are my options?
Abe: Bo, Roman's at the hospital. He's tied up with this lock down thing. He's visiting Marlena. But he did brief me on your agreement.
Bo: Don't worry. We'll get it done.
Abe: 48 hours and I need that tape. And I don't need to tell you what else is at stake.
Bo: Hey, if you have to take my badge, it's happened before. Philip was just served a subpoena.
Abe: A subpoena?
Bo: Yeah, by the grand jury investigating the goings-on down at the docks, you know, warehouse fire, drug trafficking.
Abe: And if they get that tape, they could file possible kidnaping and murder charges.
Bo: Not if I can help it.
Morgan: Daddy?! Daddy? Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!
Hope: What is it? What's wrong?
Morgan: I know I saw him.
Hope: Saw who?
Morgan: My Father. He was here.
Hope: You saw your father?
Morgan: Yeah, he was looking at me right through the window, and now he's gone.
Abe: Does Philip know that you have the original tape, that it wasn't really destroyed?
Bo: As much as I want to believe he's innocent, he is still a suspect.
Abe: Yeah, you're right. It's better he doesn't know right now.
Bo: You know, if we can just find Hollingsworth, he would lead us to John and this whole mess would be over.
Abe: So you really think it was John who's responsible?
Bo: He was your friend. Mine too.
Hope: Hey, you're not gonna believe this. Morgan thinks she saw Paul.
Morgan: Daddy! Daddy! [Breathing heavily] Daddy.
Roman: John wasn't real thrilled about you kicking him out.
Marlena: I need to talk to you alone. I know I said that I'm fine, but I'm still feeling confused, and I -- am I doing the right thing?
Roman: I don't know. I don't know, but then again, you're asking the wrong guy.
Marlena: You'll always be honest with me, no matter what.
Roman: I think you're smart. I think you're smart to hold off going home with John, and I know it's tough. I know that it's very tempting because you still love him. That's obvious. But, just like you said, he's not the guy we used to know.
Marlena: No, he's not. He's not. He's not. You're right. I'm right. Okay, well, then, I'll just, um, I'll go home alone.
Roman: Whoa, no, no, no. What the hell are you talking about? That is not what we discussed. I mean, Stefano is still out there, and he is still very much a real danger.
Marlena: Where do you think I should go?
Roman: Well, you go home, but I go with you and I stay with you. As your police guard. Just like when we met. How about that? We come full circle.
Marlena: Are you gonna sleep on my floor like you did before?
Roman: You bet I will. Doc, I will do anything it takes to make sure you're safe.
Nurse: Excuse me. Dr. Carver wants to run another full blood screen just to be safe.
Roman: Okay. I'll be right outside.
Marlena: I'm all yours.
Roman: Just wanted to come in and say goodbye.
Marlena: Oh. Thank you. Gosh, I got so tired all of a sudden.
Roman: That is to be expected. We'll let you get some sleep.
John: I'm still waiting for my answer.
Marlena: John...I really appreciate your offer. I know how much you want to protect me.
John: Not just about that.
Marlena: I appreciate that, too. I'm afraid it's too little, too late.
John: Blondie, there's a lot at stake here.
Marlena: I know, John. The answer's still no. I'm not going back to the mansion with you. I can't do that.
Roman: I think we should let her rest.
Marlena: Yeah. I'm really am sorry, John. Oh. You have no idea how much I wanted to be with you.
John: I'm sorry, too.
Roman: Get some sleep, Doc. Don't worry about a thing. I'll make sure you're safe. Just like the old days.
John: Congratulations, commander. You may just have your shot after all. [ Cellphone ringing]
[Cellphone ringing] Yes. You what? No, that can't be. He could not have escaped.
Bo: Are you sure it was him?
Abe: You weren't just seeing what you wanted.
Morgan: No, I know my Father, okay? It was him. He's alive. I came running out here and he was gone. He must have run off.
Hope: Why would he do that?
Morgan: I don't know. Maybe he's scared. Look, just go find him, okay? Please? And bring him back to me. Keep him safe.
Abe: All right, I've already got an A.P.B. out. I'll make sure the officers are scouring the area.
Hope: If he's still around here, we're gonna find him.
Bo: Let's go.
Philip: I really hope it's true, Morgan. I hope he's alive, and I hope he's all right.
Morgan: Yeah, well, then you'd be off the hook, wouldn't you?
Philip: That wasn't what I was thinking. Look, I know how much you love him. And I was thinking about what it would mean to you if you had him back... and what that would mean for us.
Kate: Me and Daniel? I-I don't know what you're talking about, honey.
Chelsea: You've been lying to me. Both of you. Are you really gonna stand there and keep doing it? Just tell me the truth.
Kate: Shh. I don't think this is the time or the place to discuss this.
Chelsea: There's really not a right time or place to discuss this, is there? God. How could you do this to me?
Chelsea: Just -- just admit it.
Daniel: Chelsea, Chelsea, I am so sorry.
Chelsea: Sorry that you got caught?
Daniel: No, no, it's over, okay? It's over.
Chelsea: Yeah, Daniel, you're right. It is.
Daniel: No, I mean with me and Kate. It's over.
Chelsea: So you admit it.
Kate: Daniel --
Daniel: No, she knows, Kate. I'm sorry, but it's out there. She saw the text you sent me. She knows that you and I slept together.
Steve: I don't want to worry you more, but there's something I need to tell you.
Kate: Look, I don't really know where to begin.
Chelsea: I think you should begin by telling me why you had sex with my boyfriend.
