John: I think we're on to something.

Tony: Yeah?

John: Yeah, this is it.

Tony: Hmm. What's "it"?

John: The connection that was disabled. If I can get these back together in the right sequence, we're gonna be in business.

Tony: Not a moment too soon.

Anna: [Coughing]

Tony: Anna.

Anna: Tony, John, what's happening?

Tony: I think we're almost we breathe soon.

Anna: [Coughing]

Tony: Anna? Anna! Anna! [Coughing]

[Machine whirring]

Stefano: You're too late, John.

John: They're still breathing.

Stefano: Yes, but for how long?

John: Damn you, DiMera. What have you done?!

Stefano: [Laughs] It's too late.

John: Coward.

[Machine beeping]

Marlena: You.

Sam: Yeah, it's me -- Sam. Have you missed me?

John: [Grunts] Stefano! Where is he? Answer me, damn it! Where is Stefano?

Stefano: My name is Stefano.

Sam: Marnie. Look at me. It's me -- Sam.

Marlena: I don't know who you are. But my sister was murdered a long time ago.

Sam: [Laughs] That's right. I was.

Marlena: Well, if I'm not dreaming...and you really are Sam, that...that must mean that I'm dead?

Sam: Nah, you're very much alive. I'm just not sure for how long. You did a bad thing, Marnie. And now you're gonna pay for it.

Stefano: My name is Stefano DiMera.

John: What is this, some kind of a setup?

Stefano: I do not understand.

John: Do you know who I am? Why, I'm John Black. Your half brother.

Stefano: I do not have a brother.

John: My Mother was Colleen. Does that sound familiar?

Stefano: Colleen ruined my life.

Sam: Marnie...you crossed the line.

Marlena: Crossed the line how?

Sam: You broke your oath as a doctor. You deliberately hurt another person.

Marlena: So it's about Stefano.

Sam: Yeah.

Marlena: Did he send you here to taunt me?

Sam: No. You summoned me yourself.

Marlena: I don't understand.

Sam: You will.

Marlena: You're not making any sense.

Sam: I'm here to help you. But you have to answer a question for me.

Marlena: What question?

Sam: Why did you do it?

Marlena: Do what?

Sam: Why did you inject Stefano with a drug that you knew would incapacitate him?

Marlena: You know why I did that.

Sam: I know I know why. Do you know why?

Marlena: Sam, I don't have time for this. Earlier today, one of Stefano's men broke into my house, injected me with the same thing that I gave Stefano. If I don't get the antidote soon, I will be completely paralyzed. Sam, please. I'm begging you. Give it to me. It's right there.

Sam: Answer my question.

Marlena: Why won't you help me?

Sam: I am helping you. Just answer my question.

Marlena: Why did I inject Stefano? Because of what he did to John.

Sam: Is that the only reason?

Marlena: Don't do this.

Sam: Tell me what you did when you went to Stefano's jail cell.

Marlena: Sam, the antidote.

Sam: Just tell me.

Marlena: All right. I injected Stefano with a drug that I knew would paralyze him. His mind was alert, so he was actually trapped inside his own body. And as the drug was taking effect, I...I described to him what was happening.

Sam: And you told him it was not about revenge.

Marlena: Yes.

Sam: Well, that wasn't true, was it?

Marlena: John was in a terrible place. Stefano had subjected him to all these experiments, and, eventually, he destroyed his memory. It was obvious to me that he planned to use him for his pawn again. I had to protect him. I had to. It was all I could think of to just get him out of the way.

Sam: Why did you inject Stefano?

Marlena: I just told you that.

Sam: I know, but I want the truth now.

Marlena: Why are you doing this to me?

Sam: Because it's the only way to save you. Why did you inject Stefano with a drug that would put him in so much pain? That would leave him a prisoner in his own body?

Marlena: Because the bastard deserved it.

Sam: Yes! Now we're getting somewhere.

John: Well, now, hold on a minute, kid. You got it all wrong.

Stefano: Your mother's Colleen, no?

John: Well, I just told you who my Mother was.

Stefano: She tricked my Father. He left Mama because of her.

John: No, that's not what happened.

Stefano: It is true. They were yelling. Papa told mama he must leave.

John: Well, Santo may have left you and your family for a while, but I know that he came back.

Stefano: Yes, but it was never the same. Papa was angry, and life was not so good.

John: I'm sorry to hear that. But it wasn't my Mother's fault.

Stefano: Colleen hurt Mama and Papa.

John: My Mother was young. She didn't know that Santo had a family until it was too late. It was our Father's fault.

Stefano: No!

John: Stefano. Stefano. Stefano, you're wrong.

Santo: Hello, my son. [Humming]

John: Santo?

Santo: Yes, Gianni. It's me -- your papa.

John: The resemblance is amazing.

Santo: Come. Come here. Let me have a look at you. Wow. I can see your mother in you.

John: What do you want?

Santo: I came to talk to you.

John: I don't believe that.

Santo: It's true. Gianni, why are you acting like this?

John: You -- you abandoned my Mother. You left her pregnant and alone.

Santo: Gianni, you have to listen to me.

John: I don't want to hear your version of the truth.

Santo: Colleen never told me she was pregnant. If I had known --

John: You'd have what? Oh, you would have left your family to be with my Mother?

Santo: No. I would have claimed you as my son.

John: Well, I'm sure that your wife would have approved of that.

Santo: I would have loved you like I love Stefano. You would have grown up together as brothers.

John: No. I could have turned out to be as sick and twisted as he. Well, you do know that Stefano is responsible for destroying my life, right?

Santo: Yes, yes. I know, I know.

John: Well, so tell me, Dad, how does it feel to know that you have fathered a monster?

Santo: The boy I fathered was as pure as driven snow. Life made him a monster.

John: Are you finished?

Santo: You know, I loved your mother very much. I think about her every day.

John: Well, that's touching. Really.

Santo: And I wish...I wish things could have been different.

John: Well, so do I.

Marlena: Why are you here?

Sam: I'm here to help you. You haven't been yourself lately. Actually, you haven't been yourself for quite some time.

Marlena: I don't know what you mean.

Sam: Revenge was just never your style.

Marlena: No, it's your style.

Marlena: You can't get away with this.

Sam: You just wait and see.

Marlena: What did you give me? What did I have?

Sam: What do you think?

Marlena: Tea? Drug. You drugged the tea.

Sam: That's right, Marlena. You're right again. Oh, you should never turn your back on me. When you were packing my overnight bag...I came out here and slipped some of my little pills into your tea. Well, won't be long now. So, that was a lot of medication I gave you. You'll be asleep real soon after all those pills. Don't forget, I'm a drug expert. You know that, don't you?

Marlena: Sam, please.

Sam: Now, it's not enough to be lethal. You're in no danger at all. Just enough to give you a nice, long nap.

Marlena: Please don't do this.

Sam: I have to go and call Dr. Powell and make arrangements. Why don't you just lay still and let me take care of this business?

Marlena: Dr. Powell. Dr. Powell.

Sam: Hello, operator? I need the telephone number for the Bay View Sanitarium, please.

Marlena: You weren't very nice back then, Sam.

Sam: Well, I was misguided. But you found a way to help me then, and I'm gonna find a way to help you now.

Sam: Marnie, do you have any idea why you're here?

Marlena: Because Stefano tried to incapacitate me.

Sam: That's one way to look at it, I suppose.

Marlena: And the other?

Sam: You lost your way.

Marlena: I don't understand.

Sam: You have spent all your time and all of your energy trying to save John.

Marlena: Yes.

Sam: To your own detriment. You've been so worried about John...you've lost sight of who you are as a person.

Marlena: I know who I am. I am a woman who loves her husband very much.

Sam: Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's a lucky guy. That love has cost you dearly, may even cost you your life.

John: Why don't you just tell me what you want?

Santo: I've come to give you a message.

John: A message from who?

Santo: From whom is not important.

John: I'll decide that.

Santo: Gianni, this life you lead is wrong.

John: I don't know what you're talking about.

Santo: I know. I know. Stefano stole your memories. He made you forget who you are, but...that does not mean that you have to become cold and unfeeling.

John: [Chuckles] Wow. You are giving me advice on how I should act?

Santo: Because I hear that once you were a good man. You are a son I would have been proud of.

John: Well, I don't have time for this.

Santo: Gianni, Gianni, listen to me. Listen to me, Gianni. Do not -- do not be like me. Do not be like Stefano. You are Colleen's son. You are a good man.

John: You have no idea who I am. And Colleen didn't, either. Because she left me when I was a baby, and then when she tried to get me back, I'd been adopted! She abandoned me.

Santo: Gianni. Your mother did what she felt was necessary.

John: My Mother abandoned me! Do you hear my words, Santo?! She left me! S-she left me.

Stefano: [Chuckles] Look at you. You are a fine young boy. [Chuckles] You know, I bet you that Steven and Kayla must have some big plans for you, huh? Yes, but [Chuckles] I have some big plans for you, too.

Marlena: Do you know that if it weren't for John, I would be lying unconscious on my floor?

Sam: If it weren't for John, you wouldn't be in this mess. You wouldn't have attacked Stefano and he wouldn't be trying to retaliate against you. Look, you messed up and now you're paying for it.

Marlena: And if I had the chance, I would do it all again.

Sam: Oh.

Marlena: There were months where we were led to believe that John was dead. The hardest thing I ever had to do was bury my husband. And then one day...we learned that he was alive, and words -- words can't even describe how that felt to me. And then he looked at me. Then I realized he had no idea who I was. Do you know how that feels to be with a man you promised to grow old with, to love your whole life long and know he doesn't have a clue who you are? That's horrible. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Sam: I'm sorry.

Marlena: I am, too. You know what's even worse? John has become just like him. He's living in the DiMera mansion. He's running DiMera Empire. The man that I know and love would have despised this person.

Sam: The John you know and love hasn't been around for a long time.

Marlena: That's why I have to get better so I can help him.

Sam: Marnie, you taught me you can't help somebody who doesn't want to be helped.

Marlena: Well, I can try.

Sam: Right. What will you do when it doesn't work?

John: I've had enough of this.

Santo: Wait. Gianni, your mother did what she thought was best for you.

John: Well, that's your opinion. I don't agree.

Santo: I want what is best for you, also. You need help. Marlena -- she can do this.

John: Oh, what the hell does Blondie have to do with any of this?

Santo: She's a good woman, Gianni, and she loves you.

John: Well, you're wrong again, Santo. She's in love with the man that I used to be.

Santo: No, she is the one who can make you the man you used to be.

John: Well, that would be nice if that's what I wanted, but it's not.

Santo: Do you know what your problem is? You don't listen to what is inside your own mind.

John: No, you're not listening. I don't need her!

Santo: Well, you're wrong, John. And that's a fact.

John: What do you want?

Santo: To help you.

John: I don't need your help. You got us killed. In fact, I don't need anything from either one of you. You hear that, Dad?

Santo: Well, you're sure not yourself.

John: If I had a dime for every time I heard that.

Santo: You'd what? You'd be a rich man?

John: Well, richer, actually.

Santo: So, you have become very comfortable in your new life, haven't you?

John: Well, let's just say being the head of a DiMera Empire suits me.

Santo: Well, I disagree.

John: I'm sure you do.

Santo: All right, enough of this social sparring here. What do you say we just cut to the chase?

John: By all means.

Santo: I don't like the way you've been living our life.

John: I'm sorry to hear that.

Santo: You see, I never would have moved into my enemy's home or assumed his position as head of the family.

John: Not even if it was part of your very own birthright?

Santo: Nope.

John: Well, that's what makes you and me so different.

Santo: I couldn't agree more.

John: Well, like it or not, John, we are DiMera by blood, which entitles us to everything Stefano has.

Santo: Doesn't mean we had to take it. We don't need the money. I mean, we're already wealthy.

John: Well, now we got more and the clout that comes with the DiMera name. I can't tell you how handy that's been the last couple months.

Santo: But I'm sure you'd also agree that...it has its disadvantages. Don't tell me you've forgotten your upcoming trial on drug trafficking?

John: I haven't forgotten anything.

Santo: Oh, I could probably argue that point, but the bottom line is you never should have become head of Stefano's family or his empire.

John: He stole my life. As far as I'm concerned, the old bastard owes me.

Santo: Maybe so, but, still, I think you should have walked away.

John: Because that's what you would have done.

Santo: That's right.

John: You always were a coward.

Marlena: Sam, you would have liked John.

Sam: Yeah? Okay. Tell me about him.

Marlena: Well, he was -- he's a devoted father. We have a child -- belle. And he has a son by a prior marriage.

Sam: Yeah, but, I mean, what's he like as a husband?

Marlena: He's just wonderful. I love him so much.

Sam: Yeah, I can see he makes you happy.

Marlena: He does. We've had some wonderful times together.

John: Oh, ho, ho, ho. Santa did not forget you, either, little girl. Let's see what we have over here.

Marlena: All righty.

John: Merry Christmas from Brady and me.

Marlena: Oh, thank you. May I?

John: Oh, you bet. That's it. Rip into it.

Marlena: Go, go, go, go. Ooh. Oh, John. What beautiful, beautiful charms.

John: No, not just charms. Those are good-luck charms for your second chance at life.

Marlena: Yeah?

John: Now look closely here. These two little stones, they're for the twinners. We have opals for Sami and Eric.

Marlena: Oh, their birthdays, yes.

John: Carrie -- none other than the aquamarine.

Marlena: Mm-hmm, and -- and a star.

John: For light. We have an angel for protection and guidance.

Marlena: And a life preserver?

John: Mm-hmm, for a safe journey. And we have an anchor -- steadfastness. What the hell is this thing on the end? This is a, uh --

Marlena: What is it? Looks like -- [Laughs] Looks like a couch or a sofa.

John: Yeah, well, what the hell? You are a shrink, right? I figure with all the heavy-duty emotion running up and down this chain here, a little touch of whimsy is in order.

Marlena: Oh.

Marlena: All right, what are you up to now?

John: Well, we just got married, right?

Marlena: Right.

John: Mm-hmm. And what usually follows the wedding ceremony?

Marlena: Oh. A honeymoon.

John: Very good. A honeymoon.

Marlena: [Laughs] As much as I like the idea, my daughter's getting married. She would like to have me there.

John: And you will be, but first, we're gonna take a little time out for us.

Marlena: [Gasps] Look what you've done. [Gasps] You re-created our wedding night.

John: It was perfect then. And it's perfect now. Just because you're with me.

Sam: Hmm. I can see why you loved him. Marnie, he's gone now. You have to accept that.

Marlena: I can't do that.

Santo: I'm a coward?

John: With emotional weaknesses.

Santo: Well, now wait a second. I'm not the one who destroyed the only chance I had of reclaiming my life because I was afraid to deal with the past.

John: Well, who said I was afraid?

Santo: Well, you did. When you decided to destroy the disk that had your memories. Why did you do that?

John: Well, why not? I just decided to live my life in the present.

Santo: So the hell with the past, right?

John: Ah, you're quick, John.

Santo: She's not gonna go away, you know.

John: And what's that supposed to mean?

Santo: You've done everything in your power, John, to alienate your wife, which, in my book, is another sign of being a coward. Oh, and for the record, I'm not a coward. Never have been. In fact, I'll go as far as to say that I had more intestinal fortitude and integrity than you could ever fathom.

John: I got it. You're better than me.

Santo: And you walk around that DiMera mansion all high and mighty like you know what life's about. Well, let me tell you something, pal. You don't have a clue.

John: And of course you do.

Santo: Yes, I do. Life is about love, John. Life is about family, friendship. And you know something? You had it all before Stefano took it away. And now you're so busy living his life that you don't even realize that...the life you had was...so much better. Marlena's the best thing that ever happened to you, and what do you do? You just walk away.

John: And now I would like you to just walk away. 'Cause I've had enough of your garbage for one day.

Santo: Gianni, Gianni, Gianni. Listen to yourself, hmm? Marlena is a good woman. She's one of the best. She loves you, John. She's the mother of your children, and I believe...that she can help bring you back.

John: Well, I believe I've been clear that I want nothing to do with you. I'm content with who I am now.

Santo: I understand. And that's your prerogative. I'm just asking you to reconsider. It's not too late. Don't throw away the best thing that ever happened to us. And that's Marlena.

Marlena: Don't ask me to give up John. I can't do that.

Sam: Yeah. I see that. There was a time when people wanted you to give up on me. But you wouldn't do it.

Marlena: Of course not. You're my sister. I loved you.

Sam: Yeah. Hard to believe all that stuff I put you through. I mean, locking you up in that sanitarium.

Marlena: You were a drug addict, Sam.

Sam: Well, still, never needed any excuses. Remember the day that I was sent away?

Marlena: I do.

Sam: I almost destroyed your -- your life. I almost destroyed you. I'm so glad they're gonna put me away finally. I'm so glad they're locking me up.

Marlena: Sam, look, you just can't think about it that way. Now, they're not going to lock you up. They're going to help you. They're going to give you treatment. And when you get all those pills out of your system, you're going to feel a lot better.

Sam: But I-I deserve everything that they do to me. I deserve it.

Marlena: Look, just don't think about that.

Sam: And I deserve to -- to have you hate me and never forgive me for all this.

Marlena: Sam, I don't hate you. I could never hate you. I'm just beginning to understand you. Understanding a lot more things about you...and about myself.

Sam: Can you ever forgive me?

Marlena: Of course I can. I just hope that you can forgive yourself.

Sam: So, because of you, I was able to forgive myself. I did get better.

Marlena: You're wrong. That was your own strength and determination that got you off drugs. John is in a far different place than you were back then. He doesn't think that he has a problem. He doesn't think that he needs help. That's why I have to get better. I have to help him, even though he doesn't think he needs it.

Sam: You're right. If anybody can help him, you can.

Marlena: Thank you.

Sam: I got to go now. It's been so good to be with you again. I really missed you.

Marlena: And... I've missed you, too.

Sam: I'll see you, sis.

Marlena: Oh, Sam. I need your help.

Stefano: [Singing quietly] Have you completed your assignment?

Dr. Rolf: I have. And may I add, Stefano, that it is an honor to be working for you once again.

Stefano: Fine. But there's still much to be done, you know. But, listen, before we go any further, I want to commend you for the excellent work you have been doing so far. So, tell me something. No one is aware that you are in my employ?

Dr. Rolf: No.

Stefano: Good.

Dr. Rolf: Would you like me to take the child now?

Stefano: Yes. Careful, careful. Easy, easy. All right. Now, okay. You know what to do.

Dr. Rolf: I will follow your instructions to the letter. Shh, shh, shh, shh.

Stefano: Ciao.

Tony: Anna. Anna. Anna. Wake up. Get up.

Anna: Tony? Oh, my God. What happened?

Tony: I think we lost consciousness. Can you get up?

Anna: Oh, God. I had the strangest dream.

Tony: Was it about Stefano?

Anna: Yeah, how'd you know?

Tony: I had one, too. I think we were hallucinating just before we passed out.

Anna: Oh, God, mine was awful. I mean, what more could those fumes do to us?

Tony: Well, I think because we're breathing again that John must have activated the ventilation system successfully.

Anna: Oh. Speaking of John, where is he?

Tony: I don't know. Probably to find Marlena. And hopefully he's finding a way out so we can get some help.

Anna: Oh, God. Tony, how could Stefano do this to us?

Tony: Honey, I don't want you to worry about Stefano. I'll make sure he gets what he deserves.

Anna: Oh, don't you talk like that. Or else you're no better than he is.

Tony: I am not my father.

Anna: No, my darling, you're not.

Tony: [Chuckles]

Stefano: Yes, fine. No, no, no, that's exactly what I want you to do. All right, just wait for my instructions. Okay, so, any problems?

Dr. Rolf: It went exactly as you planned.

Stefano: Good. Rolf, what I set out to do will soon be completed.

Marlena: The antidote. It's in the syringe. I need you to give it to me.

Sam: I can't do that, Marnie. Only you can save yourself.

Marlena: But I can't. I'm paralyzed. I can't move my arms or my legs. Oh, Sam, please. I'm begging you. Please.

Sam: You can do it.

Marlena: Sam! I can't.

Sam: Yes, you can. You have to.

Marlena: [Thinking] I know I can do this.

Santo: So, Gianni...what are you going to do about Marlena?

John: I don't know what I'm gonna do about her. She's so hell-bent on changing me back into the old John and that's...just not who I want to be.

Santo: Ah. Well...whatever you decide... don't give up on love. You hear me? Do not ever give up on love. My boy.

Marlena: I...

Sam: You can do it, Marnie. You have to.

Marlena: [Thinking] I can do this. Yes! Yes. Now my hand. Oh, it's working. It's working. Come on, Marlena. You need that syringe. Just pick it up. [Whimpering]

Kate: My son is up there.

Roman: So is Stefano DiMera.

Kate: Oh, my God, then he's going to go after Lucas for trying to kill E.J.

Stefano: 'Cause it is obvious that Samantha has finally realized that her place is by Elvis' side.

Sami: I couldn't imagine my life without you, E.J.

E.J.: Thank you.
