Nicole: Ooh, gives me the willies.
Sami: [Gasping violently]
Nicole: [Coughing] [Glass thuds]
Lucas: [Thinking] I had a feeling something was going on between those two, but seeing it right there in front of me burned like a .45 slug to the gut. Not that I could blame Philly. Miss Lane was a heck of a good secretary. And without those glasses and that tight little bun, a real hot tomato, even if I was a married man. I thought she was someone you could trust, someone you could count on when you were in a pinch, not like my two-timing floozy of a wife. Knowing she stepped out on me hurt a lot, but strangely not as much as seeing that hot-and-heavy smooch between Miss Lane and Philly K.
Chloe: Mr. Horton.
Sami: Let me go, you crazy she-devil!
Nicole: How many times do I have to kill you before you really croak?
Sami: Ah! [Gasping] [Fabric scratching] [Whimpering] [Whimpering stops]
Nicole: Are you really dead this time? [Breathing heavily] You better be 'cause I don't think I can go another round. What I really need is a drink. I look better than you ever did. That's what you get, honey. No one -- and I mean no one -- messes with my man and gets away with it. [Door opens, closes] That must be E.J.
Nicole: Since this is my fantasy, naturally I don't get caught. I'm sure I'll figure out exactly how to get away with it.
E.J.: Samantha? Baby, hey.
Nicole: Not who you were expecting, huh, Junior?
E.J.: I don't know what you're talking about. Don't call me Junior.
Nicole: Knock it off, Junior. I'm not buying it.
E.J.: Good... 'cause I'm not selling anything.
Nicole: Thought you were going out of town.
E.J.: I am. I just forgot something.
Nicole: Yeah. Your mistress?
E.J.: How many times do I have to tell you there is no other woman?
Nicole: You're right. That peroxide-blond floozy Sami Horton you've been two-timing me with -- no, she's not here, and she isn't gonna be here. You're not even gonna deny it, are you?
E.J.: Wouldn't do any good, would it? Looks like you got me cold.
Nicole: What's the matter, baby? Wasn't I woman enough for you?
E.J.: It's not that, Nicky. I love you.
E.J.: I do.
Nicole: Then why were you fooling around behind my back?
E.J.: It's just the way I am. It's the way I've always been. You should have known that when you stole me from Mabel.
Nicole: You told me I was the only girl for you.
E.J.: And you are, sweetheart. I just can't stay faithful.
Nicole: So what are you saying? I bored you, that I couldn't make you happy the way you needed me to?
E.J.: I'm saying it's not your fault. It's me.
Nicole: What do you want, baby? What do you need? What do you like? I'm a real fast learner.
E.J.: Nicole, I'm a grifter! I'm a no-good, lousy bum. You don't deserve me. You never did.
Nicole: You're wrong about yourself, E.J. I'm the right woman for you -- better than that tramp you were meeting here and planning to run away with.
E.J.: Don't you understand? In time, I'd have cheated on her, too.
Nicole: Then this was all for nothing, then, wasn't it?
E.J.: What was all for nothing? What did you do, Nicky?
Lucas: Don't sweat it, Miss Lane. You don't work for me anymore. Whatever you do on your own time is your own business.
Philip: You got a bone to pick with her? 'Cause I don't want any trouble.
Lucas: No. No trouble, Philly. Uh, we were in a previous relationship.
Philip: Yeah, I heard. She used to work for you.
Lucas: That's right. And now, I guess, she, uh, works for you.
Philip: Yeah. Yeah, she said there was nothing between you two.
Lucas: No, I'm a married man.
Chloe: And I don't fool around with married men.
Lucas: Things might have changed, but it wasn't right that I asked you to wait for me, was it, Miss Lane?
Chloe: What you walked in on here, it's not what you thought.
Lucas: I know exactly what I walked in on. It's getting hot in here. I'll get some air.
Chloe: I've waited too long already.
Philip: I thought you didn't date married men.
Chloe: You know I don't love you. I'm in love with Mr. Horton.
Philip: Then why did you quit your job?
Chloe: Because I couldn't stand to be that close to him every day and have to keep my feelings to myself.
Philip: It sounds like you did a pretty bad job. One look at his face, and I can tell he knows how you feel and how he feels about you.
Chloe: I stayed with him for months. I worked for him without being paid. And then I just couldn't stand it one day. But now I realize that leaving was a big mistake.
Philip: You want to go running after him, go ahead. Make a fool of yourself. But you're not gonna be happy with him. I can give you all the things he can't.
Chloe: I don't care about money.
Philip: That's not what you said when you were behind the 8-ball and I offered you a job.
Chloe: I know what you did for me, but I'm not naive. I know exactly why.
Philip: No, you're not naive. But I'm betting you're no dumb bunny, either. You leave me, you've got nowhere to go.
Chloe: I'll be okay.
Philip: Sure you will. Sleeping down at the shelter, eating soup and crackers at the mission. Is that what you really want?
Philip: Then go get changed for the first show. And wear something tight and low.
Nicole: You want to know what I've done? I'll tell you what I've done. I wasted the best years of my life on a two-timing loser.
E.J.: She was here when you got here, wasn't she, Nicky?
Nicole: Who? That tramp you've been seeing?
E.J.: Samantha. What did you do to her, Nicky?
Nicole: Maybe she's not here because she got tired of you. You ever think of that?
E.J.: What did you do to her, Nicky?
Nicole: I didn't do anything.
Nicole: But I would have. I would have if I thought getting rid of her meant I'd get you back.
E.J.: Boy, you're a real hellion, ain't you?
Nicole: That's what you liked about me, isn't it?
E.J.: Never could resist a classy girl with a wild streak.
Nicole: You think I'm classy?
E.J.: Sure. Too classy for a bad egg like me.
Nicole: Don't say that.
E.J.: It's the truth, sweetheart. You never should have married me.
Nicole: But I had to, don't you see? I couldn't live without you.
E.J.: Well, you're gonna have to figure that one out 'cause I'm going.
E.J.: Too bad, kid. Them's the breaks.
Nicole: Junior, no. Please. Don't go. Wait! I may be down, but I'm not out. Not by a long shot. I just have to figure out a way to get that heartbroken sucker of a shamus to do my dirty work.
Lucas: [Thinking] Night again. Longest day of my life, and it isn't over yet. I'd had bad days before, but this one was a real doozy. Sometimes it makes you wonder if you even want to get up another morning. What's the point, you know? I needed a drink, bad. I'd earned it. I'd been jilted by two dames in the same day, not something I was gonna write about in my diary, not that I'm the kind of guy that keeps a diary. I figured I'd get good and drunk... then, when I woke up, figure out what I wanted to do. Maybe I'd join the French Foreign Legion -- no dames over there, just a lot of sand and camels. No one would know me. Heck, it was good enough for Gary Cooper and Franchot Tone. And they could get any dame they wanted. [Telephone ringing]
Lucas: Lucas Horton.
Nicole: I did it, Lucas. I took care of her.
Lucas: Nicole, is that you?
Lucas: What are you talking about?
Nicole: I did it for both of us.
Lucas: Did what?
Nicole: Get over here, and I'll show you.
Lucas: Where are you?
Nicole: My place. 711 Ocean Drive.
Lucas: I'm on my way.
[Slow piano music plays]
Chloe: Whatever it takes to make you love me is just what I'll do I need you so badly and if my heart breaks that's better than nothing to be kind of blue would be hardly new so, baby, I'll do whatever it takes whatever it takes thanks, Sam. We'll finish up later.
Philip: You really poured your heart into that one.
Philip: You could easily just be faking. No one would know.
Chloe: Did you want something? If not, I want to freshen up before we open.
Philip: I've been thinking.
Chloe: Go on.
Philip: Look, I know you think I'm still gonna make a play for you.
Chloe: I thought you were smarter than to waste your time.
Philip: You got a smart mouth on you. But you're pretty. Don't worry. I'm not gonna do anything you don't want me to. I told you I'm not that kind of guy.
Chloe: How do I know you're not gonna bide your time, then fire me if I don't play ball with you?
Philip: I guess you'll just have to take my word for it. I'm not gonna fire you. The customers like you. The bar till's been running high.
Chloe: All on the up and up?
Philip: Scout's honor. So, do we have a deal?
Chloe: Well, I can't go back to work for Mr. Horton, now that he knows how I feel.
Philip: Well, maybe the two of you can work things out.
Chloe: No. I know him. He'll never leave his wife.
Philip: Then it looks like you need some way to forget about him, don't you?
Chloe: It isn't going to be easy.
Philip: Nothing's easy... especially when you're all alone.
Chloe: I don't want to be alone.
Lucas: The door was open, so I just came on up.
Nicole: Do you like the bedroom?
Lucas: What's this about? You thinking of coming on to me, playing some kind of tit for tat?
Nicole: No. I mean, uh, I would, but I don't think you'd go for it.
Lucas: Well, where's the fire? When you called, you sounded all hot and bothered. And what did you mean when you said you took care of her?
Nicole: You're gonna want one.
Lucas: What did you do?
Nicole: You're not gonna be happy with me, Lucas.
Lucas: What's this about? Is this about my wife, huh? Where is she? I'm really sorry.
Lucas: Oh, no. Sami. I'm not taking the rap for this.
Nicole: Of course not. Why would anyone think you killed her? Surely not because she's your wife and she was found murdered in my apartment after I showed you the evidence that she was cheating on you with my husband. I'm sure your friends at the police department will understand that you had nothing to do with it.
Lucas: You'd be just as much a suspect as I would.
Nicole: If I was gonna kill her, why would I come to you? And have you forgotten who I am and who my Daddy is? You could get the electric chair or worse -- life. I'm sure Big Louis and his friends in the prison wouldn't mind getting their hands on you.
Lucas: You didn't have to kill her.
Nicole: I didn't plan it. She gave me lip, and I went a little crazy.
Lucas: So what do you want me to do?
Nicole: I want you to help me hide the body.
Lucas: No way, baby. There's no way I'm dumping my wife's body in an alley or the river.
Nicole: You're better off without her. You know that.
Lucas: She didn't deserve this, not to die like this.
Nicole: It's a little late now, isn't it?
Lucas: You shut your trap. Just shut it. It's time for you to pay for this.
Nicole: You think you're man enough to do it?
Chloe: Don't you want me?
Philip: What I want is for you to really want me. I know how you feel about Horton, and I'm not about to play second banana to your old boss.
Chloe: You're right. Mr. Horton is a man I'll always love. You're a better lug than I gave you credit for.
Philip: Yeah, what can I say? Underneath it all, I'm just a softie.
Chloe: I need to go to him.
Philip: That's your call, sweetheart, but I meant what I said before. You walk out that door, you're not coming back.
Chloe: Your customers deserve better than someone who only wants to sing the blues.
Philip: Then figure out a way to forget about it. Go get him, kid.
Chloe: You're a good egg, Mr. K.
Philip: Nah. I just learned a long time ago there's no percentage in being a sore loser.
Chloe: Thank you.
E.J.: Hey, kid. You open?
Philip: No. No, but since you're here, why don't you stay, have a drink?
E.J.: Thanks. I'll take a whiskey. Stick it on my tab, will you?
Philip: Relax. It's on me.
Philip: I don't usually see you in here this early or alone.
E.J.: It's hot, and I'm thirsty.
Philip: So, you just decided to drop in, wet your whistle?
E.J.: Something like that, yeah.
Philip: What happened to that little twist you came in with the other night? She finally wise up and ditch you?
E.J.: Samantha? No. I was supposed to be meeting her this afternoon. We were supposed to be going away together.
Philip: She ditched you.
E.J.: She didn't ditch me.
Philip: You're thinking she ditched you, aren't you?
E.J.: Kid, no piece of skirt's ever ditched me.
Philip: What do you think, then?
E.J.: I don't know. I think something happened to her.
Philip: Like what?
E.J.: I don't know. But I got a bad feeling about it.
Nicole: Big gun.
Lucas: You should see the size of the hole it makes.
Nicole: You gonna plug me? Go ahead. Do it. I mean it, flatfoot. I want you to.
Lucas: I don't rub out dames, no matter how much they deserve it.
Nicole: What kind of life am I gonna have now? I murdered someone in the name of love. There's nothing left for me, is there?
Lucas: Frankly, I don't know, and I don't care.
Nicole: I have nothing left to live for.
Lucas: Well, if you really feel that way, that's something you're gonna have to take care of on your own. Backup piece. No serial numbers in the grip. It's taped, so there won't be any fingerprints.
Nicole: What am I supposed to do with this?
Lucas: That's up to you, sweetheart.
Chloe: Mr. Horton, are you here? [Sighs] He isn't here. And any chance I may have had with him is gone. [Sighs]
E.J.: Yeah? Well, let me know if you hear something, okay?
Philip: Still no luck, huh?
E.J.: She can't just have disappeared.
Philip: I'd clam up if I were you.
E.J.: Excuse me?
Philip: It's your wife.
E.J.: What are you doing here, Nicole?
Nicole: Looking for you, Junior.
E.J.: I told you. We're through.
Nicole: I know. I have something I need to tell you.
Chloe: 12 stories. Long way to fall.
Lucas: Miss Lane! What the -- what the heck do you think you're doing?! Come in here. Whatever it is, it's not that bad.
Chloe: Oh. No, you didn't think --
Lucas: What was I supposed to think? You were leaning out the window.
Chloe: To get to the fire escape for some air. It's got to be 110 degrees in here.
Lucas: You sure you weren't gonna jump?
Chloe: I could never do that, as much as I may want to.
Lucas: Why would you say something like that?
Chloe: I have my reasons.
Lucas: You want to share?
Chloe: Last thing you need to hear is my problems.
Lucas: I'll listen to anything right now that'll help me with my own.
Chloe: It's rude to drink alone.
Lucas: I didn't know you drank.
Chloe: You never asked.
Lucas: So, what's got you in a twist?
Chloe: I quit my job.
Lucas: Philly K. tried to put the moves on you, huh?
Chloe: No, even though I know he wanted to. He was nothing but a swell gent the whole time I worked for him.
Chloe: Yeah. I had a great job, money, a guy who was talking to me about headlining at another club, and a good guy who was really interested in me.
Lucas: Why'd you give it up?
Chloe: Because I had everything but you. I mean it. You've always been the man for me.
Lucas: You know, you may not be expecting to hear this from me, but that's just music to my ears.
Chloe: But what about your wife?
Philip: Manhattan, right? I'll put it on your tab, leave you two alone to talk.
E.J.: I got a train to catch, doll face. What do you want to talk about?
Nicole: Your little girlfriend's not coming with you.
E.J.: Samantha. What did you say to her, Nicky?
Nicole: Not much at all. I killed her. I killed your mistress. She was pretty feisty, took a long time to die.
E.J.: [Laughing] Not this time, sweetheart. I don't believe you.
Nicole: I couldn't stand that she'd stolen you away from me. I killed her, and I'd do it again if I had to.
E.J.: You're crazy! You know that? You're crazy!
Nicole: I'm crazy for you, lover. I have to have you back.
E.J.: Samantha's dead, huh?
Nicole: So she doesn't matter anymore. The only thing that matters is that the two of us are together.
E.J.: If what you're saying is true, that's never gonna happen.
Nicole: Then I guess there's nothing left to do. If I can't be with you, I'm gonna kill you, and then I'm gonna kill myself.
Nicole: So what's it gonna be? You and me back in bed... or dead?
E.J.: Come on, baby. You even have to ask? You know I've always loved you. I just don't like being taken for granted, see?
Nicole: Is that what I was doing, baby?
E.J.: Why else you think I end up with a cheap toss like Samantha?
Nicole: I knew you couldn't really love her.
E.J.: Of course I didn't. I still can't believe you killed her with that.
Nicole: No, I-I didn't have this then.
E.J.: Tell you what. Why don't you give it to me nice and easy? There we go. See?
Nicole: Did you really mean all those things you just said?
E.J.: Of course I did. Cross my heard and -- of course I did. I can't believe you killed for me.
Nicole: I did. I couldn't help myself.
E.J.: No one's ever loved me that much.
Nicole: I love you that much and more. What if I get caught?
E.J.: Wait a second. What did you do with Samantha's body?
Nicole: It's in a trash bin in the alley behind our building. I was thinking of dumping her in the river, but I was afraid of being seen. And I couldn't call a cab to take us there, and --
E.J.: Of course you couldn't.
Nicole: Was I stupid?
E.J.: No, baby. You weren't stupid. A little impulsive, maybe, but not stupid.
Nicole: I love you, baby.
E.J.: I love you, too.
Nicole: Really? Then we can be together, exactly like we were before?
E.J.: Yeah, of course we can. But you got to get out of Salem.
Nicole: I don't understand.
E.J.: We got to get you out of Salem. They're gonna find the body.
Nicole: You want me to go on the lam?
E.J.: Sweetheart, it's the only way to keep you safe.
Nicole: I won't go.
E.J.: Doll face, it's that or the electric chair.
Nicole: I'll only go if you come with me.
E.J.: Of course I'll come with you, okay? We got to go. We got to pack.
E.J.: Doll face, we all want a drink, but we got to wait until we get home. Come on.
Nicole: I'm coming.
Lucas: Before we leave, there's one more thing I have to do.
Chloe: I'll help you pack what you want.
Lucas: I, uh, have to make a phone call first.
Nicole: I can't believe you still love me.
E.J.: Of course I do. I still can't believe you forgive me for straying.
Nicole: Sami paid for both your sins.
E.J.: Yeah, and she deserved it. That little tart seduced me so she could get her hands on your money.
Nicole: She deserved it.
E.J.: Listen, I'm never gonna be taken in like that again, okay? I swear. From here on out, it's just you and me together forever.
Nicole: Prove it, Junior. Prove how much you love me.
Nicole: I wonder if E.J. would love me if Sami was really out of the picture.
Nicole: E.J. may always love Sami. And any possibility of him falling in love with me really is nothing but a fantasy. [Knock on door]
Nicole: Don't answer it. If they don't know we're here, they'll just go away.
E.J.: It's probably just the cabby. I'll tell him to come back later.
Nicole: Okay. I guess we'll just have to wait till wherever we're going.
E.J.: Hey, if you can -- hey!
Roman: You going somewhere, Mrs. D?
Nicole: Yeah, my -- my husband and I, we're going on a little vacation.
Abe: Well, you're going away, all right, but it's not gonna be on a vacation.
Nicole: What do you mean?
Roman: We're here to arrest you for the murder of Samantha Horton.
Chloe: You turned her in.
Lucas: I had to. I had no choice. Sami might have been an unfaithful, lying tramp, but she was my wife. I had to blow the whistle on Ms. DiMera.
Chloe: That took a lot of guts.
Lucas: Yeah, well, guts I got. It's lucky breaks where I come up short... at least until now. I think I got the luckiest break of all.
Chloe: You're a good man, Mr. Horton. Everything's gonna work out for us. I know it will.
Lucas: You really think so?
Chloe: I know so. I didn't think I could love you any more than I already did, but I do.
Lucas: You know I'm not looking for any medals. I'm just looking for a fresh start and a clean break, someone I can trust. And I have a feeling that that somebody is you.
Nicole: Samantha who? I don't know what you're talking about.
Abe: Nice sell, sweetheart. We're not buying it.
Roman: We know all about your husband's affair with Samantha Horton.
E.J.: Now, you wait a second. Whoever told you that is a liar!
Roman: Maybe. But it really doesn't matter.
Abe: He also told us where her body was.
Roman: In a trash bin in the alley, right behind this building.
Abe: That dame is stone-cold dead, and we know you're the one who iced her.
E.J.: Now, come on, boys. You don't have any proof of that, do you?
Roman: Actually -- actually, we do. We found a locket on the victim's body with your picture, E.J., and hers, together.
Abe: And that's motive. And I bet when we dust this place for prints, we'll find the victim's.
Roman: And when we dust the victim's clothing, I'm pretty sure we'll find yours, Mrs. D.
Abe: And that's all we need.
Roman: You're done, Toots. Time for you to go downtown.
Roman: I know these aren't the kind of bracelets you're used to, sweetheart.
Nicole: My Daddy won't let you get away with this.
Abe: Your daddy won't want the scandal. And we got plenty on him, too, if we want to use it.
Nicole: Help me, E.J. You got to get me out of this jam. You gonna wait for me, baby?
E.J.: Sorry, doll face. I'm not that guy.
Roman: Not much to wait for, anyway.
Nicole: What do you mean?
Roman: Oh, you are going to the electric chair, honey.
Nicole: No. No, wait. Wait, I want to live!
Nicole: [Scoffs] I can't even get E.J. in my own imagination. I got to find out what's going on in that hospital.
Stefano: Have you completed your assignment?
John: I don't need her!
Man: You're wrong, John. And that's a fact.
Woman: Have you missed me?
