Kayla: I don't understand why this is happening.
Kayla: I'm trying to, Marlena, but I don't want to do or give you anything until I know what's causing this.
Sami: We know that Stefano is the one causing this.
John: Oh, he won't get away with this.
Sami: But, Aunt Kayla, there has got to be something that you can do to help her.
Kayla: We're having the residue that was found in the syringe analyzed, but, so far, there's nothing conclusive. I'm gonna draw blood and run as many concurrent analyses as I can, so if I can ask you both to step out of the room, please. Thank you.
E.J.: Hey. How's she doing?
Sami: Not great.
E.J.: Okay, look, we need to, uh...find out exactly what it was that happened to her.
John: I'll be back.
E.J.: John, if you're going to talk to my Father, you're wasting your time.
Anna: What did you do to Marlena?
Stefano: I did what I had to.
Anna: I wish you'd never come out of this.
Tony: Now, Anna.
Anna: No, I mean it, Tony. Or have you suddenly forgotten how...wonderful our life has been and the lives of many other people while this monster was locked away?
Stefano: You know something, Anna? You've always been a bit of a nuisance, and now you're a meddlesome bitch.
Tony: Excuse me. You're talking about my wife.
Stefano: Wife? Wh-- oh, my God. How can you keep doing the same mistake over and over?
Anna: How did you magically wake up from that coma anyway?
Stefano: I'd like to explain it to you, but you're too ignorant. You'd never understand.
Tony: Oh, would you both shut up?! I want answers.
Stefano: [Sighs] All in good time, Antony.
John: So, it is to be.
Stefano: Hello, John.
Tony: You're not thinking about hurting him, are you?
John: Oh, I am, but for now, I need him alive.
Stefano: Of course, you do. What is it, John?
John: Whatever revenge it is you're seeking, direct it towards me. I can handle it.
Stefano: As I trained you to.
John: And whatever you did to Blondie...you will tell me so the medical technicians can counter it.
Stefano: Marlena is ill?
John: And I hold you responsible.
Stefano: I have no idea what you're talking about.
John: You only get one warning, brother. Now...tell me.
Steve: Baby? What happened to Marlena?
Kayla: She's been injected with a paralyzing toxin.
Steve: Did she say "Stefano"?
Kayla: That's why I called you. Stefano's come out of his coma.
Stefano: Big demands, John, considering that you have absolutely nothing to bargain with.
John: Are you comfortable, or can I get you another pillow? I should have suffocated you when we were alone.
Stefano: But you did not. That is your weakness. Leave us.
Tony: I'm not sure it's safe being alone with John.
Stefano: As long as John thinks that I can help him with Marlena --
John: I will accept that as an admission.
Stefano: Admission? [Chuckles] I admit nothing. No, as long as John believes that Marlena's fate is in my hands, he wouldn't dare harm me.
Anna: Come on, Tony. Let's -- let's do what he asks, because it may be our only chance to help her.
Tony: I'll just be outside.
John: Did you enjoy your coma?
Stefano: Not a coma, John. I was paralyzed, but my mind was active.
John: Plotting your revenge, I assume.
Stefano: Among other things. After all, I did have quite a bit of time to think.
John: Of course you did... because you were fully alert.
Stefano: I was.
John: Then you know that I'm your half brother.
Stefano: I do. I heard every word that you said.
John: And you know that I've taken everything you had -- your money, the mansion, your entire empire.
Stefano: Well, John, I certainly hope that you have enjoyed it, because that's all about to change.
Steve: What did the psycho shoot her up with?
Kayla: I don't know, but I'm doing my best to find out.
Steve: Just don't worry, Marlena. Kayla's gonna take good care of you.
Kayla: All right, I told the nurse to tell the lab to put everything else they can aside and work on these tests, all right? I don't know what you were injected with, but I'm gonna do my very best to counteract it.
Sami: As soon as they find out what Stefano did to my mother, I hope John kills him.
E.J.: All right, stop, please.
Sami: I mean, I really thought that we were rid of him, you know? I thought he was gone for good, but, no. Of course he always manages to find a way to come back to wreak havoc on our lives.
E.J.: Samantha, that did not give your mother the right to play God and put him in some kind of paralytic state.
Sami: Oh, come on, E.J. You don't really believe my Mom did that.
E.J.: Doesn't really matter what I believe, Samantha. It's what my Father believes.
Sami: What do you believe?
E.J.: I think she did.
Sami: Oh, come o-- you know, if she did, she did it because she was desperate -- because she was desperate to protect our family.
E.J.: She didn't. She did it because she wanted to get revenge against my Father for what he did to john.
Sami: You know what he did to John was horrible, was tragic. You helped us save him.
E.J.: I did. The reason that I did that was 'cause I wanted to put an end to the stupid situation, not have her go and make it worse. Look, I understood that my father was gonna have to pay for what he did, but I expected him to go to prison for the rest of his life, not to be trapped in his own body.
Sami: He deserves it.
E.J.: Nobody deserves that.
Sami: I can't believe you feel sorry for him. There is a right side and a wrong side to this situation, E.J. I hope you choose carefully about which side you're on.
John: So, you really assume that you can just...wake up... exact a little revenge on Marlena, and then what -- take back your old life?
Stefano: [Sighs] John [Clears throat] I know that you don't remember it, but...I don't often fail.
Stefano: No. And I'm not going to fail this time.
Stefano: I'm going to reclaim my life, you know. And I will tell you something -- that the way I'm going to do it is pretty much already in motion.
John: Well, as I recall, your last big plan was met with resounding failure. Or how would you put it?
Stefano: I have no idea what you're referring to.
John: You went to all that trouble of killing me, resurrecting me, and then programming me to eliminate the one woman who destroyed your father's life. Oh, and I strike a nerve. That's right. Colleen Brady. But what you failed to realize when you set all that in motion was that she was my Mother. And because your programming wasn't complete -- another failure, I might add -- I couldn't find it within my... hardwiring to kill her.
Stefano: So you told me. And I must admit something, John. I was bitterly disappointed.
John: Well, get used to it.
Stefano: I don't think so, John. We have this little setback that it was, but you are still my pawn.
John: Oh, no. I am the man who controls your empire, but right now, I am the man who can snap your neck like a pencil.
Stefano: Colleen. [Chuckles] That was the tramp that tore my Father's life apart.
John: Oh, she just did what she believed was right, not that you would understand.
Stefano: Where is that tramp now?
John: Call her that one more time.
Stefano: Where is she?
John: Oh, she's dead. But she died with her friends and family all around her, everybody that she loved -- something that you'll never know.
Stefano: [Sighs] Yes, but you see, the important thing, John, is that she is dead.
John: Yeah, and safe from you.
Stefano: And you. And all those that you love are not.
Sami: I'm sorry, Aunt Kayla. I just can't wait. How is she?
Kayla: I'm afraid she's getting worse.
Sami: Come on. There's got to be something you can do.
Kayla: I'm having the lab run every test I could think of.
Steve: Listen, I'm sorry. I've got to get Joe over to Dr. Lopez for his checkup.
Kayla: You know, I'm sorry I can't come. Call me if you need anything.
Steve: Well, he's been fine. It'll probably just be routine. I'll call when I'm finished.
Steve: Hang in there, Marlena. Did you have anything to do with this?
Kayla: I still want to do an EKG and a C.A.T. scan.
Marlena: You're wasting time.
Kayla: Marlena, I need to know what's going on with you, what you were injected with.
Sami: E.J., do you know what it could be?
Kayla: I talked to Roman. He's looking for him, but no luck yet.
E.J.: I know how to get ahold of Rolf. Let me call him.
Marlena: Wait, I know. I know... what's in the needle.
Kayla: How can you?
Marlena: It's the same... toxin... ...I gave...Stefano.
Kayla: I got it, I got it. All right, so, tell me, why do you think that you were injected with the same toxins that you used on Stefano?
Kayla: Tell me what they are. Tell me what was in it. Okay, go ahead.
Marlena: A mix.
Kayla: Yeah, got it.
Marlena: Holoxitin. Tryptophanate. Small -- small -- small amounts, just...enough to paralyze, not to -- not to kill.
Kayla: Okay. Okay, I'll look up the antidote.
Marlena: No, w-wait. The combination would intensify the toxins.
Sami: It's okay. Mom, it's okay. Just take your time.
Marlena: Funny, isn't it? Before too long, I won't even be able to -- to move or speak. The only thing -- only thing that will be alert is my mind.
Anna: How could you let your father speak to me like that?
Tony: Oh, can we not talk about this right now?
Anna: Well, I just don't want you to let him walk all over you.
Tony: Look, we can't confront him now 'cause if we do, we may not find out what happened to Marlena.
Anna: Well, maybe if you had told everyone that he was awake --
Tony: But who would ever think he would do something like that?
Anna: Tony, we have got to figure out exactly what he did to her.
Tony: Mm, yeah, we've got to do it soon.
Tony: I don't want to worry you.
Anna: [Chuckling] Well, it's too late.
Tony: Because I know him -- because what he's done to Marlena is out of vengeance for what she did to him. What I'm afraid of is that he's not gonna be satisfied until she's dead.
John: Let me ask you something. Why are you doing this to Blondie?
Stefano: John, if I am doing anything to Marlena, it's because of what she did to me.
John: Oh, but she had her reasons.
Stefano: Well, theoretically speaking, so would I.
John: I've been told that you were once in love with her.
Stefano: Oh, yes. She was my Achilles' Heel. I will admit to that openly, john.
John: So why are you doing this to her?
Stefano: Because she put me through a living hell beyond imagination.
John: I see. So once you've punished Blondie, you'll be satisfied, correct?
Stefano: Hardly. I have plans for everyone who has betrayed me, John.
John: Oh, no. I can't let you do that.
Stefano: See, now, you don't listen to me. I just finished telling you that it is already in motion and neither you or anybody else can stop it.
John: No, you don't listen to me. You will tell me what you did to Blondie, or I will hurt you.
E.J.: Hey, hey, hey! Come on, get your hand off him. Get your hand off.
John: Busy, Elvis.
E.J.: John, it's not gonna do any good, okay? We both know he's not somebody who responds to threats. Take your hand off.
John: Blondie could be dying.
E.J.: John, take your hand off. Come on, it's not like you're in love with her. I mean, if you were, you wouldn't have had that whatever it was with Ava Vitali.
John: That's enough, Elvis.
Stefano: Martino Vitali's daughter? If I remember correctly, she was a rather lovely girl. You -- what does she have to do with you?
John: That's a long story.
E.J.: John couldn't quite be the person that Marlena wanted him to be, so he moved on.
John: Elvis, that's enough. Let's put it this way -- because you have targeted Blondie, I now care about her and, by extension, anybody she cares about in this town.
Stefano: Ah, so you are now Salem's Savior?
John: No, I am your enemy. Anyone you are after has become my friend.
Stefano: Commendable, John. But, Elvis, you know, it's very interesting. You seem to know an awful lot about John's life.
John: That's because he lives in my mansion. And as my lawyer, he has been very helpful.
Stefano: Oh, I see. Another betrayal by my son.
John: Get used to it. Now, I need to go check on your target, but make no mistake, dear brother, if she dies, so do you.
Stefano: Et tu, Elvis.
E.J.: "Et tu"? I did not betray you. And I have my own reasons for wanting John destroyed.
Sami: Mom, you listen to me. You have to fight this. Aunt Kayla is gonna find a way to help you. This just can't be happening.
Kayla: Take it easy.
Kayla: You didn't have an antidote because you didn't want one. That doesn't mean that I can't find one. [Door opens]
John: You're gonna fight this, Blondie. And now I'm gonna help you. [Monitor beeping]
Tony: Hello, Marlena. Sami's outside with Anna. They all care about you very much, as do I. That's why they agreed it's okay for me to have a private moment with you. I hate seeing you like this.
Tony: Yes, I know. She's out there trying to help you. No one's trying to help my Father. So, is it true that you were responsible for putting him in that paralytic state?
Tony: I'm sure you had good reason.
Tony: I must say, I'm honestly surprised. I thought of all the people I knew in this world, you'd be the last person that would ever do anything so heinous.
Marlena: I had no choice.
Tony: We all have choices, Marlena. I'm sure yours was easily justified, rationalized. But nonetheless, what you did was... what you did was wrong and evil.
Marlena: I had to protect my family.
Tony: You sound just like Stefano.
Stefano: If you tell me, Elvis, I can help you.
E.J.: I'll handle that myself. Thank you.
Stefano: Thank you, Father.
Stefano: Sometimes I think you have forgotten.
E.J.: I can assure you that I have not forgotten.
Stefano: All right, fine. But let me tell you something. I cannot help you until you tell me why you want to destroy John. [Door opens]
John: Time's up, nephew. I'll take over.
Stefano: It's all right.
E.J.: [Clears throat] I'll be outside.
John: You're gonna talk to me, Stefano, or I'm gonna have to hurt you.
Stefano: [Sighs] John, I don't feel anything, all right? [Chuckles] And I won't be able to as long as I am partially paralyzed.
John: Well, I think you're lying. So...let's find out, shall we? We'll just start with this.
Stefano: You break even my little finger, and someone else you love will pay. I already told you, John, all right? Nothing you can do will stop it, all right? [Chuckles] But I suppose I really should blame myself for you not accepting it, huh? Because you were trained so well that you would not accept defeat.
Sami: No, don't even talk to me. I have to get -- I have to.
E.J.: Samantha, stop, stop.
Sami: E.J., please don't stop me. I have to make him --
E.J.: Listen to me. He's in there with John, okay?
E.J.: All right? This isn't gonna end well. You know that, right?
Sami: I know that nothing regarding Stefano ever ends well. But I am going to make him tell me how to save my mother.
E.J.: That's not gonna happen.
Sami: What was that?
Stefano: Ah. There. It's done. [Chuckles]
John: What is done?
Stefano: The fate of my enemies...is sealed.
Tony: You really believed that you put an end to my Father, didn't you? Oh, Marlena, you should have known better after so many failed attempts. I suppose you just had to give it one more try.
Marlena: I'm not sorry.
Tony: Oh, I don't blame you. I really don't. But as I said, I am disappointed because I think -- well, you know what undid you in the end, don't you? It's your...innate morality, your basic goodness. I know you wanted to see my Father suffer... as much as I really believe that you just didn't simply kill him because you couldn't. It's not in you. It's not who you are. And that was your big mistake... because as you know, my Father's brand of justice is not hampered by a moral code at all. He still believes he hasn't killed anyone, and we both know that's not true, don't we?
Marlena: Do you think he's --
Tony: What? Gonna try to kill you? I think he's already tried that. I just pray to God he doesn't succeed. But it isn't just about what you did to him. It's about his betrayal by his children... and John, who he retrained to be his loyal puppet. And, yes, I do think there is a strong possibility that he will try to kill you, but I think he came back... oh, God. He came back because he wants to kill us all.
Sami: You know, I just have a strange feeling that something's gonna happen. I'm gonna get some air. Excuse me.
John: Well, you should know by now that mind games don't work with me, so just tell me what you've done.
Stefano: John, if I told you what I did, it would take away the excitement of discovery, all right? Now, why in the world would I want you to have time to get your defenses together?
John: Then there is a way to stop it.
Stefano: Oh. I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. No, once it's started, there's no way to stop it.
John: Then there's nothing left for me to do but...deny you the pleasure of watching it happen.
Anna: Hi. Tony was really upset when he left here.
Marlena: He's worried about Stefano.
Anna: As well he should be. But I'm worried about you.
Marlena: It's getting harder to...move...breathe.
Anna: You hang in there. You -- you hear me? Don't you give up. And don't you let that monster win. Kayla is really good, and so are all the other doctors here. And they will figure out a way to make you better. Don't think like that, please. Listen, Marlena, you've got so much to live for. And I'll tell you what -- you know, when you do get better, we can figure out a way to -- to destroy Stefano once and for all. And I'll help.
Marlena: Revenge. That's how it began.
Anna: Well, then, it's a fitting way to end it... because it's the only way we will all know that we are truly safe.
John: Say hello to hell.
Steve: John, what are you doing? What are you doing? No, no, no, no! You can't kill him!
John: Yes, I can.
Steve: No, you ca--
Steve: Don't do it. Listen. No, no, no, no! Listen, I know what he did to you. I know. He did the same thing to me. He stole my life, but I got it back. So can you.
John: That's because you wanted it. I don't.
Steve: Hey, man, you don't know what you want.
John: Oh, yes, I do.
Steve: No, no, no, no. Listen to me, man. If you kill him, you'll probably be killing Marlena, too. Is that what you want?
John: He lives for now.
Stefano: Thank you, Steven.
Steve: Don't thank me, man. When it's time for you to die, if he isn't around to do it, I'll do it myself.
Kayla: Oh, my God. I think I found something that could help.
Sami: Hey. Oh, E.J., hey. I just tried to go up on the roof, and the door is locked.
E.J.: That's strange. I'll call and find out why.
E.J.: Nothing. The phone's dead. That's all.
Sami: And I tried to use my cellphone earlier, and I couldn't get reception.
E.J.: That's weird. So the phones aren't working, and the doors are locked. Maybe there was some kind of short circuit or something.
Sami: You really think that's all it is?
E.J.: Well, I don't know what else it could be.
Sami: Come on, E.J. I don't even want to think about what else it could be.
E.J.: All right, look, um, I'll go and check some of the other doors, okay?
Sami: All right, I'll check the elevator.
Anna: Oh, my God. It's getting worse, isn't it?
Marlena: Soon I won't be able to move at all.
Anna: Oh, God. Damn Stefano, and damn Tony for not telling any of us that he was awake. Did you find something?
Kayla: I need to speak with Marlena alone, if you don't mind.
Anna: Oh, is it good news?
Kayla: Well, maybe. I might have found something that could at least slow down the process.
Anna: Then I'll go try to find John, huh?
Kayla: Great. Thank you.
Marlena: What is it?
Kayla: From what you told me, we looked for barely traceable amounts of the toxins. Then I combined antitoxins for the ones that we identified.
Marlena: Some antitoxins are also poison.
Kayla: I know, so what might cure you might also make you worse.
Marlena: I see.
Kayla: Listen, I have done the best that I can. But I'm afraid I think that pretty soon you're gonna be completely paralyzed. Do you want to take the risk?
Sami: E.J., hey, the elevators are broken.
E.J.: All of the stairwell doors are locked.
Sami: Well, did you try the other hospital phones?
E.J.: Yes, I tried all of them, and I can't get a signal out of my cellphone.
Sami: Me neither.
E.J.: This is weird. Every single door on the floor is locked, and I can't seem to make a call from any of the pay phones. Everything's either blocked or it's cut off.
Sami: What's going on?
E.J.: I don't know.
Sami: Well, I'll tell you what I do know -- whatever's happening is your father's fault.
E.J.: Come on. Let's go and find out.
John: Where is he?
Anna: I don't know. I came looking for you to let you know that Kayla thinks she found something that might help Marlena.
John: Did she tell you what it is?
Anna: No. And when I got here, Stefano's bed was empty.
Tony: What, do you think someone just took him away?
Tony: Well, he couldn't have just got up and left. The man was still paralyzed.
John: The bastard was faking it.
E.J.: Where -- where is he?
John: Oh, he's missing.
E.J.: Do you realize that every single door on this floor is locked? The elevators are not working. Every single phone is out, cellphones included.
John: This is what he was talking about.
Tony: What do you mean?
John: This plan of his and how no one could stop it.
Sami: E.J., something's going on. Turn it up.
Newscaster: We interrupt this program with breaking news. We've just received word that the 7th floor of University Hospital has been locked down in what appears to be a quarantine situation. Hospital officials have no comment at this time.
Steve: Mama. Huh. Mama's not here. Well, maybe she found something to help Marlena, huh? That'd be good, wouldn't it? Yeah. Well, once she comes back, we're gonna tell her what a good checkup you had. [Joe fussing] How about that? That's a good little boy. Yes, you are. [Door locks] What the hell? Hey! [Gas hissing]
Steve: Come here, baby. I got you, big boy. [Joe crying] You're gonna be warm for a little while, okay? It's gonna be dark. It's all right. It's okay, big boy. [Grunts] [Coughing] Hey! Okay, it's all right. It's gonna be all right.
Kayla: I just wanted you to know what was in it so you could make an informed decision. Do you think it will work?
Marlena: I don't know.
Kayla: You do understand if I'm wrong, these toxins would mix with the toxins that are already in your system and actually have the opposite effect.
Marlena: I understand.
Marlena: I trust you. And I've got no choice. I'm running out of time here.
Kayla: Okay. Let's pray it works. [Coughs]
Kayla: Just a minute. [Coughing]
We'll keep you updated on this breaking story as it develops.
John: Antony, what's he up to?
Tony: How the hell should I know?
John: From my observation, you knew the bastard was awake. We'll talk later. First we need to determine where he is and what he's up to.
Sami: First we need to figure out how to get the hell out of here.
Tony: If I know my Father, then he's behind this.
Sami: Of course he is.
Tony: Then he's got us all trapped here for a reason.
Sami: Oh, my God. Look!
Tony: What difference will it make? The gas is everywhere.
Anna: He really is trying to kill us, isn't he?
Sami: Oh, my God! Oh, my God! You son of a bitch, you did this?! You did this to us!
Tony: Okay, so, do you have any ideas?
John: Find this man.
