Max: Seems like we're never gonna get to Marseille.
Stephanie: I know how excited you are to find your sister.
Max: Yeah, well, excited and apprehensive.
Stephanie: Have you thought about how you're gonna introduce yourself?
Max: No. I don't know. What am I gonna say? "Hey, is Trent Robbins your father? 'Cause if he is, I'm your brother -- Max Brady. Hi, nice to meet you."
Stephanie: Simple and direct. I like it.
Max: Do you have any idea how many thoughts are gonna be running through my head right before I meet her?
Stephanie: As if these thoughts haven't been running through your head since the moment she answered the phone when you realized you might have a sister.
Max: Yeah, that's a good point. Hey, hold on a second. Um, uh, quelle heure, um, arrivez, uh, Marseille? Merci, merci. [Clears throat] Yeah, I didn't quite get that.
Stephanie: He said there's been a slight delay.
Daniel: Keep your eyes closed. Keep coming.
Daniel: Trust me, we're almost there.
Chelsea: We're definitely outside because I can hear the traffic. Though it does sound far away. But we did go upstairs.
Daniel: To show you what I consider to be the sweetest perk of that apartment. Open your eyes.
Chelsea: Oh, wow. Wow, I've never been up here. You can see everything. Look, there's the Titan building.
Chelsea: And the hospital.
Chelsea: And the river and the docks.
Daniel: Mm. And if you lean over just a little bit, you can see your grandparents' pub.
Chelsea: Oh, wow. There it is.
Daniel: Well...so you approve?
Chelsea: I definitely approve.
News Reporter: A 49-year-old unidentified man went berserk last night, opening fire with a 12-gauge shotgun.
Steve: [Sighs] Hey. How's Joe?
Kayla: He's sleeping. Should be at least a couple more hours before his next feeding.
Steve: Well, I can take that if you want to try to get some rest.
Kayla: It's all right.
Steve: It's no problem. Let me do it.
Kayla: It's okay. We'll see what happens when he wakes up.
Steve: I'm sorry, sweetness. I know I keep saying it over and over again, but I can't say it enough. This whole Ava thing -- the part I'll never forgive myself for is your pop. I think about him every day.
Kayla: It was not your fault. It was Ava's. And as much as I try to convince myself that the drugs made her unstable...she maliciously set out to have that plane tampered with, and three people died. She needs to pay for that. The sooner she's behind bars, the better.
John: Are you finished with your attorney?
John: Would you like some company, or was the news so bad you prefer to drink alone to process the information?
Ava: No, come. Join me. There's not much I can do right now anyway.
John: Elvis is resourceful. He'll come up with something.
Ava: I hope so. I know there's still the possibility of extradition, although he says he wants to try and broker a deal.
John: Does he know if the D.A. will take it?
John: Well, then, you could have a jury trial. That's good. If not, you definitely will do some prison time if my nephew gets you the deal.
Ava: Yeah, that's what it looks like.
John: I'm still facing charges myself.
Ava: I know. John...there is another option for both of us. We could just skip bail and leave the country.
Bo: Morgan, you shouldn't still be here.
Morgan: What's going on with you two?
Bo: That's -- that's private.
Morgan: Oh, it's about your father, huh? How is he?
Philip: Still stable. Thank you.
Bo: We're finished here.
Philip: You okay?
Morgan: I heard some policemen talking about my Father's case. They said his body could be already downriver by now. Philip, what if they never find him?
Daniel: I wonder if the super would let me sleep up here from time to time.
Chelsea: Are you kidding?
Daniel: Mnh-mnh. Open air, no walls.
Chelsea: The possibility of rain, people walking up here, the heat.
Daniel: I didn't know you were a half-empty kind of girl.
Chelsea: I don't think you really know what kind of girl that I am.
Daniel: I know.
Chelsea: So, um...you already signed that sublet-lease agreement?
Daniel: Mm, I guess I have, yeah.
Chelsea: So I guess that means that you're committed to staying in Salem for a while.
Daniel: For a variety of reasons.
Chelsea: Oh, really?
Chelsea: Hmm, what would those be?
Chelsea: Can't think of any, huh?
Daniel: Well, there's only one that comes to mind.
Chelsea: Which is?
[Knock on door]
Roman: Come in.
Roman: Hey, Doc. If this is about the disk, I haven't heard from the ISA yet.
Marlena: Oh. Well, they can't repair it enough just to give us some information about what's on it?
Roman: I don't know, but I will call you just as soon as I hear from them.
Roman: What do you got there?
Marlena: The D.A. contacted me, and I am meant to turn over my notes on my session with Ava.
Roman: Well, all it says here is that...Ava came to talk to you, but you are ethically unable to reveal the contents of that conversation.
Marlena: That's right.
Roman: Doc, you're one of our consulting psychiatrists.
Marlena: I know, but Ava came to me. She wasn't sent by your department or by the courts, so I feel that what she said to me has to be held in confidence.
Roman: D.A. Might subpoena you.
Marlena: I hope it doesn't come to that.
Roman: Me too, but you know what? That reminds me. I need to talk to Steve and Kayla about testifying at Ava's trial.
Marlena: Oh, yeah. I've got to talk to them, too.
Marlena: Well, there was a bad misunderstanding about Ava subletting Sami's apartment.
Roman: What? Sami's apartment is right across the hall from Steve and Kayla. What the hell was she thinking?
Marlena: It wasn't her idea. John put her up to it.
Roman: Well, did Sami have a chance to explain that to Steve and Kayla?
Marlena: No, no, she hasn't yet. That's why I'm going over there. Even the thought of Ava being across the hall, anywhere near them is very upsetting.
Ava: Well, I think it would be great. You and me alone on a little island somewhere where there's no extradition treaty.
John: Mm. Well, that sounds tempting.
John: I'm not running, Ava. I've no reason to. Now, I'm not insensitive to your dilemma, but the fact is...you admitted that you had your men tamper with that aircraft. I, on the other hand, have admitted to nothing, nor will I, because I'm innocent.
Ava: And do you really think you can beat those charges?
John: I didn't smuggle drugs into the country.
Ava: Look, I believe you. I heard your nephew Tony talking to you, and I heard him say that Hollingsworth was dead.
John: You were listening in on my conversation?
Ava: No, I was in the living room, you were in the foyer. It was hard not to.
John: And your point is?
Ava: My point is if the police think that Hollingsworth was murdered, it's only a matter of time before they come knocking at your door.
John: Fine, let them come.
Morgan: Why aren't the police telling me anything?
Philip: It's an ongoing investigation. They can't talk about it. At least that's what they keep telling me.
Morgan: They keep acting like I know more than I do.
Philip: They're just hoping you remember something that can help find him.
Morgan: I can't. I mean, I've already told them everything I know.
Philip: Why don't I get you out of here? I'll take you back to the sorority house.
Morgan: There's hardly anybody there over the summer. I don't really want to be alone right now.
Philip: All right. Then come home with me.
Morgan: Philip, I couldn't.
Philip: No argument. Let me just call and check on my father, and we'll get out of here, okay?
Morgan: All right.
Marlena: Hey. You all right?
Bo: I'm fine.
Bo: Yeah, it's just this... case I'm working on. It's pretty frustrating.
Marlena: Would that be the John/Philip/Hollingsworth case? That case?
Bo: That would be the one, yeah.
Marlena: I know how you feel. It's weighing on me, too. If you ever want to talk about it, I'm available.
Bo: You know I can't.
Marlena: I meant that I'm the actual police psychiatrist, so whatever you say to me is in strict confidence.
Bo: If I needed to talk, it would have to be with somebody else.
Marlena: I understand. I can recommend somebody if you like.
Bo: No, thanks. I won't need it. I'm fine.
Max: How long are we stuck here?
Stephanie: They're not sure.
Max: Okay, how far are we from Marseille?
Stephanie: 30 miles.
Max: Damn it. What -- what's the problem?
Stephanie: I don't know. The conductor just said that there's something on the tracks.
Max: I love the fact that you speak French.
Stephanie: Hmm, and you didn't even want me to come along.
Max: [Chuckles] Well...while we're waiting, let's go over the plan on how I'm gonna find my sister.
Max: Um...oh, what did the world do without G.P.S.?
Stephanie: Use maps. Now they're just on cellphones and computers.
Max: Rue Jourdan. But we don't have a street address.
Stephanie: All right, let's recap. My dad said that his contact, all he could get was the nearest street to the cell tower that the call went through -- Rue Jourdan.
Max: Right, and the phone was registered to Melanie Layton.
Stephanie: And they can't figure out who it was billed to.
Max: Well, it could be billed to her father back in Salem.
Stephanie: At least we have a place to start.
Max: I know, but...according to this, Rue Jourdan's 15 miles long. It's gonna be impossible to find her.
Steve: Oh, man, I wish I could sleep. I wish I could sleep like that little baby in there. I've watched TV till my eyeballs are popping out. I finished "Daddy, don't Drop Me." You know, maybe I'll give Stephanie a call later, see how she and Max are doing. I know I'm not supposed to say this, but I really wish she hadn't gone.
Kayla: Well, it's not like the search that they are on is dangerous. I mean, not physically. And if finding and meeting his sister is emotionally tough on Max, how great will it be that Stephanie's there for him?
Steve: You're right. I know you are. [Knock on door] Hey.
Roman: Hey, uh...hope this isn't a bad time.
Philip: All right, let's get out of here.
Bo: Hey, Morgan. Excuse me. Do you mind if I have a word with my brother before you take off?
Morgan: Yeah, no problem.
Bo: Thanks. I really don't want to believe you had anything to do with Paul's disappearance or possible murder.
Philip: I didn't.
Bo: But you got to know you're one of the prime suspects, right?
Bo: And taking that in consideration, don't you think it's pretty stupid to be hanging out with his daughter?
Chelsea: This feels good, doesn't it?
Daniel: Mm. So far.
Chelsea: So, you know, I think my Dad might be starting to accept it. Well, us.
Daniel: I don't know if I'd go that far.
Chelsea: Why? Did he say something to you at dinner?
Daniel: Nothing about us, but we talked about him and victor and how important it is that he not get upset again.
Chelsea: But you still don't know what caused it?
Daniel: I don't care what caused it. All I know is it's just got to stop.
Chelsea: Well, I'm gonna try to find out what's going on.
Daniel: Oh, I do not think that would be a good idea.
Roman: So, you will both testify at Ava's trial, right?
Kayla: Of course.
Roman: Now, you do know her lawyer's going to use her drug dependency as the cornerstone of his defense.
Marlena: He has to. It's all he has to go on.
Roman: Now, Steve, you will testify that Ava admitted to you that she ordered her men to sabotage that plane.
Steve: I will.
Marlena: You all right?
Kayla: Yeah. It's just that, uh, Steve and I just had a fight about Ava. I found out that she wanted to sublet Sami's apartment across the hall, and I -- I lost it.
Steve: So, you think Ava's gonna do time?
Roman: Well, three people were killed because Ava had that plane tampered with. I doubt very much the European authorities are going to look the other way.
Steve: I heard E.J. is fighting her extradition. And did the D.A. really drop the kidnapping and attempted-murder charges?
Roman: We don't -- well, it was this -- the courts decided the international case took precedence. Those other charges can be filed any time, just as long as the statute of limitations doesn't run out.
Steve: What about the guys who actually did the job?
Roman: One of them cut a deal, and he's going to testify against Ava.
Steve: Well, so much for loyalty, huh?
Roman: Steve...listen very closely to me, okay? I know...part of you feels guilty about this. But you do know this is not your fault.
Steve: That's what your sister keeps telling me.
Marlena: Kayla, I am so sorry about this. And John initiated the whole thing. And, well, we know how he is these days, so he most likely won't apologize, but I want to apologize for everything.
Kayla: Why didn't Sami just say that?
Marlena: I think that she tried, and then Ava walked in.
Kayla: And I kind of blew up.
Marlena: Hey, listen -- the important thing is she's not gonna be living near you.
Kayla: Look, I'm sorry, Marlena. I've tried to have sympathy for Ava -- make excuses about the father and the drugs and everything -- but, honestly, I just can't wait till that woman's out of our life for good.
Marlena: Believe me, I understand. I think it's only a matter of time before she hurts somebody else.
Ava: That's my family's villa in Tuscany.
John: Yeah, it's beautiful. But like I said, Ava, I'm not gonna run.
Ava: Because you have to vindicate yourself.
John: It's just the way it is.
Ava: It's Marlena, isn't it? She's the reason you don't want to leave.
Philip: Now, who I see or don't see isn't your concern.
Bo: I'm just saying it could look like you're so concerned about Morgan because you feel guilty about what you did to her father.
Philip: I don't care. Morgan needs me now, and I'm gonna be there for her.
Bo: That's real knight-in-shining-armor of you.
Philip: Are you finished?
Bo: No. If I find out you and Victor played me --
Philip: We didn't. I had nothing to do with Paul's disappearance. And now I'm taking Morgan home.
Didier: Oui, merci.
Stephanie: Au revoir, Didier.
Stephanie: Didier was very helpful.
Stephanie: An old friend.
Max: Oh. How old?
Stephanie: Not that old.
Max: And you and he were just...
Stephanie: Good friends. And lucky for you, he knows a lot about the area.
Max: Yeah, but we don't even know if Melanie lives on Rue Jourdan or whatever. She could have just been in the area when I called her from Trent's cellphone using that same cell tower.
Stephanie: That's possible, but I don't think that's what happened.
Max: Oh, so Didier knew something?
Stephanie: Yes. He said that there's an exclusive girls' boarding school just a few kilometers outside of town.
Max: So she could possibly be a student there.
Max: That's great.
Stephanie: Yeah. Now, if we could just get this train started again so we can get there...
Max: I know. We need to get this train started, but until then [Chuckles] why don't you just tell me all about this Didier guy?
Max: Who is he?
Kayla: This is really the last thing that Steve and I need right now. I mean, the baby just has to be our first priority.
Marlena: Of course. I understand. Kayla, um, has Bo been by to see the baby?
Kayla: No, I think he's been busy with work.
Marlena: Yeah. I-I-I saw him earlier. He just seemed a little stressed to me. I guess he's frustrated by the work that he's doing right now?
Kayla: Hmm. Did you talk to Roman about it?
Marlena: No, no. No, I didn't. Uh...no. I'm just -- I'm a little concerned about him.
Kayla: I don't know what it could be.
Marlena: I don't know, either.
Kayla: I could try to find out what it is.
Marlena: That would be great. Thanks.
Bo: Yeah, hey, it's Brady. Bring me everything we have on the Hollingsworth case. Yeah, thanks.
Chelsea: You know, if something's going on with my Dad or my Grandpa, I kind of want to know what it is so I can fix it and help.
Daniel: Chelsea, I know you mean well, but whatever's going on with Bo and Victor, they'll sort it out. That's what guys do.
Chelsea: I know that, but I just --
Daniel: Look, let's not get your dad all worked up, and your grandfather certainly doesn't need any more drama impeding his recovery.
Chelsea: That's the last thing that I want to do.
Daniel: Then I think it's best that you just stay out of it.
Bo: Paul Hollingsworth -- case number h-72410765. Okay, Brady...there's got to be something here you didn't see before. Let's find it.
Ava: So...is Marlena the reason you don't want to leave Salem?
John: Blondie has no say in my decisions.
Ava: I don't want to lose you, John. And I'm afraid that if I go to prison, that I will because Marlena is not gonna give up on you.
John: I don't like this.
Ava: Okay, well, I'm just telling you how I feel.
John: That's not what I meant. I don't like the fact that you've already resigned yourself to going to prison.
Ava: Look, well, E.J. doesn't seem to think there's any way to avoid it, okay? And as tempting as it is to run, I don't like the idea of having to leave and never come back, and I don't want to leave you behind.
John: My nephew will do everything he can to keep you out of prison. Besides, these international high-profile cases take a very long time. And while they do, you'll still be free with me.
Ava: Yeah, well, that's a hell of a way to live, isn't it? Always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
John: That's true.
Ava: Come on, John, how am I supposed to even invest in a future if I don't know there's a future out there?
John: That's also true, but I hate the fact that you've already given up.
Ava: I didn't say that. Come on, I don't give up easily.
John: There she is. I don't give up, either. So let me make a phone call. Let's see what I can do for you.
John: Please stay here. [Doorbell rings]
Max: Melanie Layton. That's right. L-a-y-t-o-n? Uh-huh. Yeah, but I -- I know, I -- yeah, ok-- yeah, that's great. Thanks. Thanks. Thank you. They won't give out any of the names of the students or confirm if she even went there.
Stephanie: That's what you get for handling it yourself.
Max: Hey, they spoke English.
Stephanie: I'm not talking about the language. I'm talking about your approach.
Max: I'm sorry. I don't understand.
Stephanie: You're such a guy.
Max: What does that mean?
Stephanie: Guys are obvious and awkward.
Max: Oh, and women are...
Stephanie: Clever and resourceful. Here.
Stephanie: See? Simple. And because I left a message for Melanie Layton and they let me, she obviously goes to school there.
Max: You're a genius.
Stephanie: I know.
Steve: Anyway, European authorities consider tampering with John's plane an act of sabotage. They're not gonna ignore that, believe me.
Kayla: But I thought you said that E.J. was fighting her extradition.
Steve: Yeah, he is. But even if he can pull it off, Ava will still have to stand trial here.
Kayla: But does Roman really believe that her being drugged won't work in her favor?
Steve: Well, the drugs might have made her driven enough to come after me, but they didn't make her order those men to tamper with that plane. Now, Roman said the D.A. thinks he can convince a jury that the sabotage was conscious and deliberate.
Kayla: And if she's convicted?
Steve: She'll be going away for a long time. She killed your pop and those two pilots. She damn near killed us, Bo and Hope. Now she's messing with John and Marlena. Sick and drugged or sane and sober, Ava's dangerous. There's no two ways about it.
Steve: [Cellphone rings] It's Stephanie. Hey, baby girl. What's shaking?
Stephanie: Hey, Papa. How's Joe?
Steve: He's fine. Your brother's just fine. He misses you. We all do.
Stephanie: I miss you guys, too. Max and I are just outside Marseille.
Steve: Okay, so did that lead that I gave you pan out?
Stephanie: We're not sure, but we did find the school that Max's sister is enrolled in. We're gonna visit it as soon as we get into the city.
Steve: Great. Good. Well, you tell Max good luck, and will you be careful, baby girl?
Stephanie: I will.
Steve: Okay. Here's your mama.
Kayla: Hi, beauty.
Stephanie: Hi, Mom. How is Joe? Is he really doing good?
Kayla: Oh, he's turning into a little bruiser right before our eyes.
Stephanie: I bet I'll hardly recognize him when I get home.
Kayla: Well, speaking of that, any idea when you are coming back?
Kayla: Well, listen, I want you to take care of yourself and Max.
Stephanie: Oh, of course. And I promise to call you guys soon, okay? I love you.
Kayla: I love you, baby. Bye. Mm.
Steve: I'm glad she called.
Kayla: Feel better?
Steve: Yeah, a little bit. What do you say we go in there and try to get some, uh... some sleep?
Kayla: I have a better idea. I have a little mission for you, involving beer.
Bo: Brady. Now? All right, man. See you in a few.
Marlena: I thought you'd want to know that I am ethically unable to testify against you or turn over my notes because you came to me voluntarily and in confidence.
Ava: Good to know.
Marlena: I thought you'd be relieved.
Ava: Wow, you must be hating this.
Marlena: I took an oath. It's got nothing to do with my personal feelings.
Marlena: Right. Did you find a place to live?
Ava: No, do you have any suggestions?
Marlena: I do, yeah. I heard you had a house outside of Brookville?
Ava: Yeah, I do. It's filled with a lot of bad memories and impoundment and search warrants.
John: For the time being... Ava will be staying with me.
Marlena: I see.
John: What brings you here so late?
Marlena: Well, I came by to tell Ava that I was prohibited from testifying against her.
John: That's good to know.
Marlena: You bet. Could I talk to you?
Marlena: Could I talk to you privately?
Ava: Oh, um, these are really good. I'm gonna just go grab some more.
John: So, what is it, Blondie?
Marlena: I want to ask you something. And it's really important. And I would appreciate from you the truth.
Daniel: So, anyway, seeing this deck is what sealed the deal for me.
Chelsea: That and the fact that it was a short-term sublease, right?
Daniel: I'm not going anywhere.
Chelsea: Is that a promise?
Daniel: That's definitely an intention.
Chelsea: Fair enough. So...
Chelsea: Should we head back down?
Daniel: Not quite yet. I actually brought, um, a little music.
Chelsea: Oh. [Slow music plays]
Daniel: Now, may I have this dance?
Chelsea: Of course.
A crown of sunflowers complete a halo building a golden wreath I can't resist you when you are playful with me your kisses make me weak without the moon, there is no sun...
Chelsea: Thank you.
Daniel: My pleasure.
Without you, there is no reason
Max: Now that I know where my sister is, sitting here is just gonna drive me crazy.
Stephanie: There must be something else we can do to keep your mind off of it.
Max: Yeah, well, I forgot my playing cards.
Stephanie: I'm not talking about cards, you dork.
Max: Ah, Steph.
Stephanie: Come on, we have 30 minutes. Go close the blinds.
Max: I got it finally. Sorry.
Stephanie: [Chuckles] Come here.
John: I already know what you are going to ask me.
Marlena: It's not about Ava because that really is --
John: It's none of your business. But then again, neither is what you're about to ask me. But I can understand why you would be interested.
Marlena: Can you?
John: You want to know if I had anything to do with Paul Hollingsworth's disappearance.
Marlena: Did you? Did you kill him, John?
Morgan: I really appreciate you bringing me here. I just -- I don't want to be a problem.
Philip: You're not. Would you like a drink?
Morgan: No, I'm good.
Philip: Something to eat?
Philip: Is there anything at all I can do?
Morgan: I could really use a hug.
Philip: Come here.
Bo: Well, it's great that big Joe is doing better.
Steve: Well, yeah. He's a dream. All except for the every-three-hour feeding schedule.
Bo: You don't get used to that.
Bo: Which doesn't explain why you called me up so late to go have a beer.
Steve: We're best buddies. What's the problem, man? Does there always have to be an ulterior motive for everything?
Bo: No, there doesn't. But what is it?
Steve: Kayla asked me to talk to you. Marlena told her something's bugging you. She wants me to find out what it is.
Bo: I'm good. You know, just a tough case at work.
Steve: Okay. Now, do you want to tell me the truth?
Bo: There's something, but I'm handling it, okay?
Steve: Have you told Hope about it?
Bo: No. No, I can't, and...she's not too happy about that.
Steve: Well, you're gonna have your sister on your butt, too, unless I can tell her not to worry. Can I? Come on, Bo. If you're in trouble, maybe I can help you. Are you?
Bo: Not yet.
Steve: But you're gonna be?
Steve: You know, dude...I'm not gonna let up until you tell me.
Bo: All right. The only reason I can say anything is because you're not a cop.
Steve: So it is about work, then.
Bo: I covered up some pretty damning evidence in an ongoing investigation.
Steve: Man, that's not like you.
Steve: Why did you do a thing like that?
Bo: To protect my brother Philip.
Philip: He actually thinks I might have killed Hollingsworth.
Kate: Well, he may not be the only one.
Bo: I could lose my badge. I could lose everything, including Hope.
Marlena: You and Ava have gotten mighty friendly.
John: Well, I suppose you have grounds for divorce, then.
Marlena: Shall I do that? Is that what you want?
