[Train whistle blows]
Max: [Thinking] "Hey, Steph. I'm glad you're not mad. I wish you could be here, but it's better this way. I love you. I miss you. Talk to you soon."
Stephanie: Sooner than you think.
Caroline: Stephanie... have you seen Max today? I don't think he came home last night.
Stephanie: He probably won't be home tonight, either.
Caroline: Well, where is he?
Stephanie: Don't be upset, okay?
Caroline: Well, just tell me.
Stephanie: Okay. He's in France, or at least on his way.
Stephanie: I'm sorry. I just found out myself.
Caroline: Well, what's he doing in France? He never said a word to me.
Stephanie: This will help explain things, I'm sure.
E.J.: It's, uh, Brent, right?
E.J.: Trent. Sorry. Trent. Like the river in Staffordshire. England?
Trent: Oh, yeah. I know where Staffordshire is.
E.J.: I'm E.J. DiMera. We met yesterday.
Trent: Yeah, I remember. You're Nicole's lawyer.
E.J.: Yeah. And you're her, uh, very good friend, or acquaintance, maybe.
Trent: Well, actually, you got it right the first time. I am quite a good friend of Nicole's.
Trent: Mm-hmm. We're still very close. Aren't we, Nicky?
Abe: Morgan? Can I help you?
Morgan: Uh, is Detective Brady around?
Abe: No, he's not here right now.
Abe: He did tell me that you were coming by to pick up the money your father left you. I have it right here.
Morgan: Yeah. I don't want it.
Roman: Oh. Doc.
Marlena: Hi, there.
Roman: Thanks for coming down. I hope I didn't catch you at a bad time.
Marlena: No. I don't have patients until this afternoon.
Roman: Good, 'cause we need to talk.
Marlena: What's wrong?
Roman: What else? Sami.
Victor: Whatever you have... on Philip... leave it here... with me... and walk away. [Rapid beeping]
Bo: V-Victor? Victor. Hey, take it easy. [Zipper unzips] It's okay. Take it easy. Here. Here's the tape. [Normal beeping]
Kate: What's wrong? Did something happen again?
Bo: I need to talk to Philip. Alone.
Ava: Oh, we have a lot to celebrate. Good riddance to that damn disk and the lab. You are finally free. Feels great, doesn't it?
John: You have no idea.
Ava: Mm. Well... to the future and starting over.
John: And to the beautiful woman... that made it all happen.
Marlena: Sami -- I'm almost afraid to ask.
Roman: We had a long talk this morning. Where do I start?
Marlena: Lucas? I hear he may be going back to jail.
Roman: That's only part of it. E.J. is threatening to sue for custody of Johnny.
Marlena: I thought they were working all that out.
Roman: So did I. But unfortunately Nicole got involved.
Marlena: Nicole? What did Nicole do?
Roman: [Sighs] The power outage we had. It seems E.J. and Nicole were generating their own electricity that night while they were stuck in the elevator.
Marlena: Roman, you're not saying that E.J. and --
Roman: Yeah. That is exactly what I'm saying.
Abe: Your father wanted you to have this.
Morgan: I don't feel right taking it.
Abe: Need anything for college? You can invest it. It's a lot of money, Morgan.
Morgan: I know it is, but it's not mine. So just hold onto it, and when my father gets back, you can give it to him.
Abe: Are you sure that's what you want, now?
Morgan: Thank you, Commissioner.
Max: "Ma, by the time you get this, I'll probably be in Europe. And I'm sorry for the letter. It's just easier for me this way. You're probably wondering why I left. I did it because I have a sister out there, and I really need to find her." "But I promise it's just until I get the answers I'm looking for. And I realize it's a lot to ask, but I really need your support. And I need you to trust me. But most of all, I need you to know that you mean everything to me. I will always be your son. I love you, Ma. Max."
Chelsea: What's wrong with Grandma?
Stephanie: Um, Max left town last night.
Chelsea: Where did he go?
Stephanie: To France to look for this girl who he thinks might be his sister.
Chelsea: Did you know that he was doing this?
Stephanie: I knew that he wanted to find her, and I told him that I'd help him, but he came up with this lame excuse saying that he decided not to look for her anymore. And then Pete, the bartender, just handed me this letter that he left me.
Chelsea: And he left one for Grandma, too.
Stephanie: I'm not mad that he left. I just wish he hadn't lied to me.
Chelsea: Um, do you know anything about this girl?
Stephanie: Nothing really. I mean, we're not even sure it is his sister. But if it is, then Trent Robbins is her dad.
Trent: Women. Never on time, are they?
Nicole: I'm sorry. I couldn't find a parking spot.
E.J.: Oh, I didn't realize he's your lunch date.
Nicole: Lunch, breakfast, whatever. I get confused. I am famished. Let's go inside.
Trent: Let's do.
E.J.: Nicole. Sorry. Just before you do, would you mind if I just steal her away for just one second? Can we have a word?
Nicole: Uh, why don't you grab us a table?
Trent: Oh, I'll just wait here, thanks.
E.J.: So, what's going on?
Nicole: I'm just grabbing a bite to eat with an old friend.
E.J.: Like hell you are.
Nicole: What do you mean?
E.J.: I don't like him, Nicole. I don't like the way he treats you.
Nicole: That's sweet, E.J., but I can take care of myself.
E.J.: I'm not suggesting you can't.
Trent: I think the lady's finished talking with you.
Kate: What the hell is going on? Is this about Victor?
Bo: I need to talk to my brother. Call me if anything changes.
Kate: Where are you going? Oh, lovely. Lovely.
Daniel: Where are you going?
Kate: I'm going in to see Victor.
Daniel: No. No visitors.
Daniel: The man needs his rest. I don't want him getting all worked up.
Kate: Daniel... am I making you uncomfortable?
Kate: I don't want things to be awkward between us.
Daniel: That's fine. We're fine. It's in the past, right?
Kate: Yes. So, I guess we just shouldn't -- we shouldn't talk about it anymore.
Daniel: That's, uh -- no, that's fine.
Kate: Chelsea's a lucky girl.
Daniel: You believe in luck?
Kate: No, I don't. But Chelsea is quite a catch. She's bright, and she's beautiful, and our Chelsea is quite special.
Daniel: Yeah. She is.
Kate: So, um, is it all right if I go in and sit with him now?
Kate: I promise. Thanks, Doc.
Chelsea: Is Max gonna be in Europe for long?
Stephanie: I don't know. It depends on how long it takes for us to find his sister.
Chelsea: What do you mean, "us"? Stephanie, are you going to France?
Stephanie: My plane leaves this afternoon.
Chelsea: This is crazy. Does he even know that you're going?
Stephanie: No. I'll tell you everything later. Let me make sure Grandma's okay.
Chelsea: Morgan, hey, it's Chelse. Listen, I need your help -- big-time.
Stephanie: I'm sorry.
Caroline: Oh, I'm sorry that Max didn't feel he could tell me in person, but I understand.
Stephanie: He's curious. That's all.
Caroline: Well, not much we can do about it, is there? I know you're gonna miss him like I do. Well, I'm going to the hospital to see how Victor's doing.
Stephanie: Okay. Hug me. Tell Victor hello. I love you.
Caroline: I love you, too.
Nicole: Okay, then. Let's go inside.
Caroline: This is all your fault!
Trent: I beg your pardon?
E.J.: I think she said she's not your number-one fan. I can't imagine why that would be.
Marlena: E.J. and Nicole -- oh...my...gosh!
Roman: And, needless to say, our daughter is not very happy about it.
Marlena: Maybe some good could come out of this, after all.
Roman: And that would be?
Marlena: If Sami realizes that E.J. is moving on, maybe she will spend more energy, more focus on Lucas.
Roman: I wouldn't count on that. While E.J. and Nicole were doing their thing, Lucas and Chloe were having a real good time themselves.
Marlena: Oh, no. Sami must be devastated. I'm gonna go find her.
Roman: Whoa, whoa. Just hold on, okay? Give her some time.
Marlena: You know, we should have seen this coming. Sami has been playing one man against the other for so long now... she may have lost them both.
Roman: Doc, come on. We warned her. We did the best we could.
Marlena: Roman, this may be my fault.
Roman: Doc, come on. This is not your fault.
Marlena: Sure, it is. Sami spent years seeing her mother torn between two men. It made an impact on her, and now she's doing the same thing.
Roman: You can't compare the situations. If anybody is to blame, it's DiMera.
Marlena: I have to take responsibility, Roman.
Roman: What about Sami? Isn't she old enough to take some responsibility about this, too? [Knock on door]
Abe: Can I see you for a minute?
Roman: Sure. Sure.
Marlena: I'll get some coffee.
Roman: Okay. We shouldn't be too long.
Roman: Okay. [Door closes] What do you got there?
Abe: Morgan Hollingsworth refused the money her father left her.
Roman: Did she tell you why?
Abe: She wants us to hold on to it until we find him.
Roman: If we find him. I don't know, Abe. The longer this search drags on...
Abe: The less chance we have of solving this case.
E.J.: Well, I will leave you to enjoy your lunch. If you need me, darling, call me, okay?
E.J.: I'm gonna be keeping my eye on you.
Trent: Hey. I warned you about him.
Nicole: How was I supposed to know he'd be here?
Trent: I don't trust him.
Nicole: I think the feeling's mutual. Are we done here?
Trent: No, we're not. I need you to do a little detective work for me.
Chelsea: Okay, you got everything, right?
Morgan: I hope so.
Chelsea: Oh, she's coming.
Stephanie: What's this?
Both: Bon voyage!
Stephanie: Oh, my gosh! You guys are so sweet.
Morgan: Open it.
Stephanie: Presents. Wow. You thought of everything.
Morgan: It's for your hair dryer, you know, 'cause the outlets are different.
Stephanie: I almost forgot. Okay.
Chelsea: That is so you will call us.
Morgan: Every day.
Stephanie: Phone card. Got it. All right. What else? A French translator -- an electric one. Let's see. Oh, it really does translate everything.
Chelsea: You have no idea.
Stephanie: Well, this will really come in handy, especially since I already speak pretty passable French.
Chelsea: Oh, you do, do you?
Stephanie: Mais oui.
Morgan: Who would have thought?
Chelsea: I'm gonna miss you, Steph.
Stephanie: I'm gonna miss you.
Philip: What is this about, Bo? You're starting to worry me.
Bo: Hope? Chelsea?
Philip: Can we make this quick?
Bo: Hey. Shh! What is it?
Philip: I've got a lot of work to do.
Bo: Yeah, I'm sure you do. You're the big boss man over at Titan these days, aren't you?
Philip: I have more responsibility. I told you that.
Bo: Yeah, like barking orders and making death threats.
Philip: If you got something to say, just say it.
Bo: [Exhales deeply] You threatened to kill Paul Hollingsworth.
Philip: [Scoffs] That's ridiculous. Who the hell told you that?
Bo: You did. The package that he sent to his daughter contained a recording of a conversation between the two of you.
Philip: What conversation?
Bo: The one where you threatened to kill him if he didn't do what you told him to.
Philip: Well, a threat isn't a confession or proof of anything.
Bo: It sure raises a lot of questions.
Philip: Where is this tape, anyway?
Bo: Victor's got it. Don't you worry. He's not gonna let it out of his sight.
Philip: I can't believe that son of a bitch sent the tape...
Bo: When you said you made a mistake, is this it, Philip? Did you kill a man?
Philip: I did not kill Paul Hollingsworth. I can't believe you would ask me that.
Bo: I can't believe I had to.
Philip: You don't even know that he's dead, do you?
Bo: Call it cop's intuition. Alive or dead, do you have any idea where he is?
Philip: Not a clue.
Bo: All right. Just so you know, this little conversation is off the record.
Philip: Why is that? I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm really glad you didn't turn in that tape, but there's got to be a reason.
Bo: Victor asked me not to. He was lying there in that hospital bed and told me how important it was to him. He asked me to protect you, and he didn't believe you did it.
Philip: Thank you.
Bo: I didn't do it for you. This goes against everything I've lived for, everything I believe in. I did it for our father.
Philip: I didn't realize his opinion meant that much to you.
Bo: [Exhales deeply] He asked me to keep this quiet. I told him I couldn't. We had words. He had a turn for the worse. Despite everything he and I have gone through --
Philip: He's still your father.
Bo: I should have done my job and approached this like a cop instead of like a son.
Philip: You did the right thing.
Bo: No, I didn't! I let my emotions get in the way of my judgment. The number-one rule in this line of work -- you park your personal feelings at the door.
Philip: I didn't kill Hollingsworth, so that tape doesn't prove anything.
Bo: You don't get it, do you?! I'm withholding evidence. I've lied to Abe and my brother, all to protect your sorry butt.
Philip: So you don't believe me -- is that what you're saying? Well, believe this. I am not a killer.
Abe: Thanks, Marlena. He's on the phone, but he shouldn't be long.
Marlena: Oh. All righty. Abe...
Marlena: How's Theo?
Abe: Well, one day at a time. What else can we do?
Marlena: There is a support group for parents of autistic children. It's held at the hospital every Wednesday evening in the annex. I-I thought that maybe Lexie had mentioned that to you.
Abe: Yeah, she did. We're gonna try to make it next week.
Marlena: I'm so glad, because just being around people that are going through the same challenges you are can be so helpful.
Abe: It can't hurt, right?
Marlena: How's it going with you and Lexie?
Abe: Well, uh, you know, we got a long way to go. But we did have a good talk this morning.
Marlena: I'm so glad.
Roman: [Exhales deeply]
Abe: There he is.
Marlena: Thank you.
Roman: Well, sorry about that, Doc. It was the warden at Statesville.
Marlena: About Lucas?
Marlena: I can't even imagine why he would risk everything for a few hours of freedom.
Roman: It was a stupid thing to do. What can I say?
Marlena: Well, after the, uh, Chloe incident, I'm sure Sami would like to see him behind bars for a very long time.
Roman: You'd think so.
Marlena: No? I-is she still thinking to reconcile with Lucas?
Roman: That is the feeling I got. She doesn't want Allie to grow up without her father.
Marlena: I think it may be too late, don't you?
Roman: It sounds kind of that way, doesn't it?
Marlena: What about E.J.? Does she still think maybe she has some interest in him?
Roman: Doc, I don't know. You know, as far as I'm concerned, I think she'd be better off without either one of them.
Ava: [Chuckles] Aw.
Ava: What are we gonna do? [Chuckles] It's all gone.
E.J.: Oh, good God.
Ava: What is your problem, E.J.?
E.J.: I'm sorry. I'm just not quite in the mood for watching you two frolicking around on the sofa.
John: Well, I find women fascinating, nephew. Do you find them troublesome?
E.J.: Yes, I find them troublesome.
Ava: Oh. Well, you know, maybe you should stop dressing like an attorney all the time. You ever hear of jeans and a t-shirt? Boots maybe. You know, girls -- we dig it.
E.J.: Thanks, Ava. I'll take that under consideration.
Ava: No, no. You know, you are a decent-looking guy. Just loosen up a little. Hey, you.
Ava: I'm gonna go get us some yummy treats.
John: You make the kitchen your own.
John: [Exhales deeply]
Ava: Excuse me.
John: She's right, you know.
E.J.: About my attire?
John: You need to change it up. It keeps it interesting.
E.J.: Yeah. As it happens, I am planning on making a few changes in my life. But the wardrobe -- it stays.
John: Hmm. So, what kind of changes?
E.J.: Well... let's just say I've been Mr. Nice guy...and look where that landed me, hmm? Single parent, divorced. Everyone's uncle. No offense.
John: None taken.
E.J.: It's got to stop. I mean, if I'm gonna be a good example for my son, you know? I want him to grow up to be strong, independent... so I got to make some changes in my life.
John: Well, once again, nephew, exactly what kind of changes do you have in mind?
E.J.: Well, I'm kind of glad you asked me that, John, because I have a proposal for you.
Kate: Are you sure you're comfortable?
Kate: Philip and -- and Bo left together. They've been acting awfully strangely. I don't suppose you know anything about that. Of course you do. What's this? Do you want me to play it?
Philip: Damn it, Paul. Do what I tell you or I will kill you.
Kate: [Sighs] Philip. Oh, my God.
Stephanie: It's hard to pack when you don't know how long you'll be gone.
Chelsea: We hope you're not gone for too long. I'll miss you.
Nicole: Hey, there, ladies. Uh, is Max around?
Stephanie: Uh, sorry.
Nicole: Oh, shoot. Do you know when he'll be back? 'Cause I had him order some wine for me from a really special distributor.
Stephanie: Uh, sorry. He's gonna be gone for a while.
Nicole: Oh. Uh, should I come back tomorrow?
Stephanie: No, like as in a few weeks or something. Maybe my grandmother can help you.
Nicole: That's all right. It's really not that urgent. Thanks, anyway. Have a great day.
Chelsea: That was kind of weird.
Nicole: Max is gone.
Trent: What do you mean, he's gone?
Nicole: I don't know. He left town or something.
Trent: Where did he go?
Nicole: Well, I'm sorry. I didn't get his itinerary.
Trent: Get back in there and find out.
Nicole: I'm done. If you want to find out more, then you do it.
Trent: Don't you ever speak to me like that.
Daniel: Everything okay in here?
Daniel: Or not terrific. His heart rate's accelerated -- again. What, you just like getting everyone's heart rate going?
Kate: You just assume it's me?
Daniel: No, it's my fault for letting you back in here. What are you doing, Kate?
Caroline: Oh. Is he allowed one more visitor? I just wanted to say hello.
Kate: Sure. You know, why don't you take my place, because I was just going?
Caroline: Oh, no. Don't leave on my account.
Kate: I'm not. Don't be silly. I'm gonna go for a while, but I'll be back and we can...talk. Excuse me. [Door closes]
Caroline: Is he all right?
Daniel: We had a little, uh, a little setback this morning. He went into cardiac arrest.
Caroline: Yes, Bo told me that, but he's okay, right?
Daniel: Well, he's got a tough road ahead of him. His speech is still a little slow, but that's to be expected. I think the best thing for Victor right now is just some rest. And you really, really shouldn't be here right now.
Victor: Daniel... it's all right. Please.
Daniel: All right. Just keep it short.
Caroline: Oh, I will. I will. Thank you, Daniel.
Daniel: Well, Lexie will be in to check on you soon. If you need anything at all, just press the button.
Caroline: We're all very concerned about you. I figured, uh, Bo might have been here.
Victor: He was. He's... a good man.
Caroline: Yes. He is.
Victor: Tell him... I said thank -- thank you.
E.J.: You know, I've always rather admired you, John.
John: You admire me?
E.J.: Sure. Despite all the Bradys' attempts to steer you back to your old ways, you held firm. You didn't capitulate. I commend you for that.
John: I see.
E.J.: You know, you and I -- we're not so different when you think about it. I mean, we both want exactly the same thing.
John: And what would that be?
E.J.: Power, control, a little bit of respect, maybe.
John: The Trifecta.
E.J.: Indeed. So, whatever business ventures you're involved in -- shipping or otherwise -- I'd like to be involved in them, too. So, what do you say, hmm? I mean, I think we'd make an excellent team.
John: I prefer to work alone.
E.J.: Okay. I'll let you give it some thought, eh?
John: For my consideration, though, what is it that you can bring to the table?
E.J.: Well, legal expertise, obviously. And I have an extremely detailed understanding of all of my father's business dealings.
John: Nothing I can't get elsewhere. But... you are family.
E.J.: Right. And let's not forget I wasn't always Mr. Nice guy.
John: You want to work for me? Let's give it a shot.
Roman: Doc, what I'm saying here -- Sami should start over, find some guy, get in a less-complicated situation, and maybe the guy would treat her better.
Marlena: Maybe he wouldn't betray her.
Roman: There you go.
Marlena: You know, Sami's not innocent here, exactly. She did sleep with E.J.
Roman: Yeah, and that I can't understand. I mean, Lucas forgave her for that. Why would he forgive her and then turn around, mess up, and sleep with Chloe?
Marlena: He made a mistake, same as she did. But if Sami wants to forgive him, I think we should make sure she has that chance.
Roman: Okay, Doc. What are you getting at?
Marlena: Well, I know that you bent the rules for Lucas before, and I thought maybe we could find some way to help him now.
Roman: You have got to be kidding me.
Marlena: I know it's asking a lot.
Roman: Yeah, you're damn right it is. He had his chance. Hell, he had three chances. He blew every damn one of them.
Marlena: Yeah. I was thinking, maybe just one call to the warden?
Roman: Doc, he needs to learn a lesson.
Marlena: Yeah. You could do it for me?
Roman: I'm sorry. There is nothing more I can do for Lucas.
Trent: You're skating on thin ice, Nicole.
Nicole: Don't you ever -- ever -- lay another finger on me again!
Trent: Or what? You'll sic your British boy toy on me?
Nicole: He is not my boy toy. How many times do I have to tell you? He's my lawyer.
Trent: You're falling for him, aren't you? Yeah. I warned you about him, Nicole. Stay away from him.
Nicole: No. You stay away from me.
Trent: Max. How's my boy?
Max: How did you get this number?
Trent: I'm just checking in to see you're doing.
Max: Fine, until you called.
Trent: Mm. I understand you've gone on a little trip, and you forgot to tell your old man. You know, I'm kind of offended by that.
Max: Well, you want something else offensive? How about this?
Marlena: I understand your reservations about --
Roman: I hope you do, Doc. I hope you do. 'Cause why in the hell would I go out on a limb again to help Lucas when chances are damn good he's gonna turn around and screw it up again?
Marlena: I'll give you two reasons -- Sami and her family. I know Lucas has disappointed you. He's disappointed me, too. But why should Sami and the whole family suffer for his actions?
Roman: Okay, you do have a point.
Marlena: I do. Roman, I'd like to see them have a chance to work this thing out, and they can't do that if Lucas is in prison for 10 years.
Roman: All right. Tell you what. I will see what I can do.
Marlena: Thank you so much.
Roman: Okay, but don't get your hopes up, all right? I am not making any promises.
E.J.: Excellent. You made the right decision, John. Trust me.
John: Prove it.
E.J.: I beg your pardon?
John: Prove to me that I can trust you. You do that, and we will get along...famously.
Stephanie: I guess this is it.
Morgan: Group hug. Come on. Group hug.
Chelsea: Tell Max that we say hi.
Stephanie: I will.
Morgan: Be safe, okay?
Stephanie: Of course. I'm gonna miss you guys.
Chelsea: Oh, have fun.
Stephanie: I'm gonna go before I start crying. I will have fun. I love you. Au revoir. Mwah!
Morgan: Bye. All right. Well, I'm gonna take off, too.
Chelsea: All right.
Morgan: It looks like you got some company.
Daniel: Hey, there.
Chelsea: How's my grandpa?
Daniel: He's hanging in there. He's doing fine. Yeah.
Chelsea: So, how's he really doing?
Daniel: [Chuckles] Well, he's nervous, agitated. Heart rate's elevated. And, I swear, if one more person goes into his room, he's gonna have another relapse. I mean, is there something going on between your dad and Victor? I mean, what's up?
Chelsea: What do you mean?
Daniel: I don't know. I just got the feeling that Bo said something that upset him.
Chelsea: Oh, if he did, I'm sure he didn't do it intentionally.
Daniel: Yeah. That's probably true. Well, you know how I get about my patients? I get protective.
Chelsea: If you want, I can talk to him for you?
Daniel: No. No talking.
Caroline: You're gonna be on your feet in no time. Is there anything you want I can get you before I go?
Victor: Release papers.
Caroline: I see you haven't lost your sense of humor. Oh, please, now, take good care of yourself, huh? And I'll be back tomorrow. [Door closes]
Kate: [Exhales deeply] I think we both know what needs to be done with this. I'll burn it... for Philip.
Bo: Hey, Abe, it's me.
Abe: Oh. Bo. What's going on? Listen, man, um, there's something I got to tell you.
Abe: Uh, could you just hold on a second?
Bo: I'm sorry I disappointed you, Victor, but... what you've asked me to do -- it's in moral opposition to everything I believe in.
Victor: And destroying your brother's life -- does that jive with your... morals? Philip didn't kill anyone. You're a cop, Bo. Prove your brother's innocence.
Abe: Uh, look, I'm sorry about that. What did you want to tell me?
Bo: Uh, it's -- I, um -- I don't think I'm gonna make it into work today.
Abe: Oh, well, that's not a problem. Stay with Victor as long as you need to.
Bo: Yeah. Okay. Thanks, man.
Stephanie: Celez-vous? Is this seat taken?
Max: Steph, I --
Max: I --
E.J.: You don't trust me, do you?
John: That's right.
E.J.: After tonight, you will.
Dr. Rolf: What is this about?
Marlena: I need your cooperation, and I'm not taking no for an answer.
