Daniel: You're right. This is wrong. This is just -- this is -- this is so wrong.
Chelsea: Right. Very right.
Abe: Theo -- Theo, see? We'll stack them -- stack them up just like this. You see? Yeah. Just like this.
Lexie: Abe, if he doesn't want to do it, don't make him.
Abe: I am not making him. I'm just suggesting. Never mind. Never mind. There you go. See how Daddy's doing this? Let me see. I'll start it again here. There we go.
Lexie: Theo, sweetheart, I want you to say, "block," all right? Can you say, "block"? You can say it. Come on. Say, "block."
Abe: Stop pushing, okay?
Lexie: I'm not. I'm just reinforcing what the speech therapist does.
Abe: You know, he was talking a little bit before.
Lexie: Well, he barely speaks now.
Abe: He's a boy. I mean, when he's ready to talk, he will talk.
Lexie: Theo, sweetheart, look at me. I want you to say, "block," okay? "Block."
Nick: Pretty heavy scene at the hospital, huh?
Max: Yeah. I mean, I feel for Steph and her parents. I'm just glad Chelsea's there for her, you know?
Nick: Yeah. Um, me too, although I think it's been pretty hard for Chelsea being around Steph's mom -- the baby and her not being able to have kids.
Max: Right. Do you really think that's part of the reason why she broke up with you, Nick?
Nick: Um, I don't know. I-I think she's into Dr. Jonas.
Max: Really? Wow. Are you sure about that?
Nick: Yeah, Max, I'm sure. I mean, you don't have to be around them very long to see what's going on.
Max: I know Steph was teasing her about it at the hospital, but I didn't think anything of it.
Nick: Morgan told me how "hot" Chelsea's doctor was. I should have --
Max: Morgan's into this guy, too?
Nick: Uh, no. I don't think so. I think she was more just objectively appreciating his attributes.
Max: Dude, you are way too calm about this. Aren't you angry that he's going after Chelsea?
Nick: I don't think he is.
Max: Are you saying Chelsea went after him?
Nick: No. I think that it just happened, you know?
Max: Okay, well, look. Maybe it's like one of those little crush things, you know? Like the whole doctor/patient, uh, "you just saved my Dad" type of thing.
Nick: I'm not sure, Max.
Max: Well, it's possible. I mean, you and Chelsea seemed like the real deal to me.
Nick: It felt like the real deal to me, too, but it clearly wasn't as real for Chelsea.
Max: Hey. How's your baby brother?
Lucas: I just can't believe it. I can't believe I'm actually going home tonight.
Mickey: Remember, this doesn't mean you're off the hook. You're still completing your prison sentence. The only difference is that you'll be completing it under house arrest, with your family.
Lucas: I think I can do that. Sounds good to me.
Mickey: Yeah, unless you mess up. You'll be right back in here.
Lucas: No, I'm not gonna mess up. I promise you that, Uncle Mickey.
Maggie: Oh, Lucas, I'm so happy for you.
Lucas: Thanks, Aunt Maggie. Uncle Mickey, I owe you. I don't know how I'm ever gonna be able to repay you.
Maggie: Well, that look on your face is all the thanks we need.
Lucas: I can't wait to see the look on Sami's face when I walk through that door.
Announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.
Amber: I'm back on again tomorrow at 4:00.
Chelsea: Somebody's coming.
Daniel: In the shower. No, no, no, not in the shower. Right here. Just go in. Go here. Go here.
Amber: Dr. Jonas.
Daniel: That's right.
Amber: Looks like I caught you at a good time.
Warden: Mr. Horton, I brought the paperwork for your client to sign.
Mickey: Oh, thank you.
Lucas: So, as soon as I sign the paperwork, I'm free to go?
Warden: Well, you'll be transferred to house arrest.
Lucas: But I'll be home tonight.
Lucas: Good, 'cause I want to get out of here as soon as possible.
Mickey: Not so fast, Lucas. You need to read these terms.
Lucas: Well, what are they? Are they bad?
Mickey: No, they're standard, but you'll have to follow them to a tee... or your house arrest will be revoked and you'll serve out the remainder of your sentence back here in prison.
Lucas: All right. Well, give me the rules. What are they?
Mickey: First, you'll have to remain in one place of residence for the entire term of your conditional release.
Lucas: I can't leave at all?
Mickey: Not without permission from the court and a police escort.
Lucas: Oh, great. All right. What else? What else?
Mickey: Well, you'll be given an ankle monitor that you'll have to wear at all times. The monitor will have the address of your residence programmed into it so the state can track your whereabouts.
Lucas: There's not a camera on it, is there?
Mickey: No, but it does have sensors that'll trigger an alarm at the local police department if you go outside the perimeter, which is...
Warden: 10 yards from your house.
Mickey: And if you break that invisible barrier, the alarm will sound and the local police will take you in.
Lucas: Sounds like an electric fence for dog training. I mean, what happens if I go too far?
Warden: Well, you, uh -- you won't get zapped, but a little light on your ankle monitor will turn red and start beeping. As long as you stay within the perimeter, it'll stay silent.
Lucas: Straightforward enough, I guess.
Warden: Good. Please, if you have any more questions, have the guard notify me.
Mickey: I will. You think you can abide by these terms?
Lucas: Well, yeah. I think I can. I don't know about Sami, though. I don't know if she can handle me around, you know, that apartment every second of every day. What?
Mickey: Sami doesn't live at the apartment anymore.
Lucas: She doesn't?
Mickey: No. She moved with the children to the DiMera mansion with John and Marlena.
Abe: Okay. You all set? Let's do it like this. Here we go. You're so great.
Lexie: Okay. Call me if there are any changes.
Abe: Is there any news?
Abe: Hey, Theo, you know what, buddy? You keep playing, and Daddy's gonna talk to Mommy, all right?
Abe: [Chuckling] Okay. So, what's going on?
Lexie: They're still trying to stabilize Kayla's baby.
Abe: You think he's gonna make it?
Lexie: I don't know. I just feel horrible for Steve and Kayla.
Abe: I know.
Lexie: I keep thinking about what we went through trying to get pregnant with Theo. I thought it would never happen.
Abe: But it did. You know, I thank God every day for that little boy. Do you remember how excited and happy we were?
Abe: [Laughs] Come on. Just tell me, will you?
Lexie: We're having a baby!
Lexie: Right. Oh, honey, we were so happy. Theo's such a good little boy. I've been worried about him because he hardly speaks. But he's so sweet. He's just so loving, and we -- we truly are blessed.
Abe: Yeah, I know. We are. I think we hover a little bit too much. We just have to relax, enjoy being a family.
Lexie: You know, I think about how blessed we are with Theo, and then...I think about what Steve and Kayla are going through right now. If they lose that little boy --
Abe: Don't say that, all right? He will make it.
Lexie: You don't know that. None of us do. Oh. I think somebody's sleepy. I'll put him to bed. Come on, sweetheart. Come on. Let's say good night to Daddy.
Abe: Hey, come on. Come on, big man. Whoa! Yeah! [Smooches] Good night, huh? All right. Here you go. Go with Mommy.
Lexie: Let's go brush your teeth.
Max: Hey. Is your brother gonna be all right?
Stephanie: I don't know. The doctors won't let us see him. [Inhales sharply] He's still in neonatal I.C.U.
Max: Stephanie, I'm so sorry.
Stephanie: What if he doesn't make it? He's so tiny. He was born way too early.
Max: No. He will make it. He has your mom and dad for parents.
Stephanie: My mom is a complete wreck. Dr. Elman had to give her a sedative to calm down.
Max: Wow. And your dad?
Stephanie: The same... although he's trying to hold it together for my mom.
Max: I'm sorry. I...
Stephanie: I thought I'd come by and get some better food for my dad -- some coffee or something. He's staying at the hospital. I didn't know what else to do.
Max: No, yeah, you did the right thing. I'll have the kitchen make up something for you guys.
Stephanie: I'm not hungry.
Max: I'll get you some tea, then.
Stephanie: Thank you.
Max: It's gonna be all right. All right. I'll be right back.
Nick: Hey, Steph. How's your little brother doing?
Stephanie: I don't know. No one will tell us anything.
Nick: Well, no news is good news, right?
Stephanie: That's what everyone keeps saying. I'm just hoping it's true.
Nick: I don't know if you know this, but, uh, University Hospital is, like, one of the best ICUs in the country. Your brother's definitely in good hands.
Stephanie: Yeah, but he could still die.
Nick: You know, I also read somewhere that like 35% of babies are born prematurely. In fact, in like February of '06, um, the youngest premature infant ever went home after spending four months in the neonatal I.C.U.
Nick: Yeah. It was like 9 1/2 inches long and like under 10 ounces. She had only been in the womb 21 weeks and -- and 6 days.
Stephanie: So my brother might have a shot at making it?
Nick: Definitely. Definitely. Medical technology has made leaps and bounds in the past decade.
Stephanie: Thank you for telling me that.
Nick: No problem.
Stephanie: [Sighs] How are you doing?
Nick: I'm, uh -- I'm okay. Um, my funding proposal was approved.
Stephanie: That's great.
Nick: Yeah, it is great. It is really great. Um, I also got a copy of the paperwork that Max had sent into the Dean for me.
Nick: Would you mind telling me exactly what Max said he did with my work?
Stephanie: All I can you is what Max told me -- that he cleaned up and copied your work, then sent it in.
Nick: He didn't mention anything about adjusting my calculations?
Stephanie: All he said was that he cleaned it up.
Nick: Yeah, that's what he told me, too -- not in so many words -- but, um, I guess I just have to let it go.
Stephanie: You're on a huge streak of success -- not just with the grant and prototype, but the professors in the physics lab are really high on you.
Nick: Is that right?
Stephanie: Mm-hmm. It's the rumor.
Nick: That's cool. But wait. You're in the Communications Department. How would you know about that?
Stephanie: Oh, I hear things, and I hear you're the rock star of the Physics Department.
Nick: Well, I don't really care about the fame. I just want to make a difference, you know?
Stephanie: You will. Nick... I'm really proud of you.
Nick: Thank you, Stephanie. Thanks for always supporting me.
Stephanie: Yeah, and...I know I haven't always shown it or been the nicest person to you, but... I've always thought the world of you. Max, too.
Nick: Thanks. I mean, we've all been through so much together, you know?
Stephanie: Oh, yeah.
Stephanie: So, you okay?
Nick: Yeah, I just, um...
Nick: I just -- I can't stop thinking about what your family must be going through with -- with the baby and you, too.
Nick: Yeah, you know, I guess it's just that whole circle-of-life thing, you know? We take so much for granted, and we never think that something really bad might actually happen to us or somebody we care about.
Stephanie: And that's why it's really important to have friends to help us through it.
Nick: Yeah. I think Chelsea's going through a lot, too, right now -- I mean, dealing with...what happened to her, with the infection.
Stephanie: She hasn't really talked much about it with me.
Nick: It probably just hasn't hit her yet.
Stephanie: You're right. It probably hasn't hit her.
Nick: Well, when it does hit her, I... I wish I could be there for her.
Stephanie: Nick, she still wants you there as a friend.
Nick: Stephanie, everybody says that when they break up.
Stephanie: I guess they think it makes it easier.
Nick: It doesn't.
Stephanie: Well, I know how much you love her.
Max: Here you go. I didn't know what kind of tea you wanted, so I brought a couple of different kinds.
Stephanie: Thank you.
Max: Yeah. Oh, and your order's being put in with the kitchen right now, so, uh, what's going on?
Nick: Oh, nothing. Um, Steph was just telling me about what a rock star I am, which is ridiculous. I mean, you know, I'm just me. Just, uh, what you see is what you get. Kind of like both of you guys.
Max: Right. Definitely. Yeah. Hey, you want a beer? Want something?
Nick: No, no. I'm, uh, I'm good.
Max: Alcohol dulls the brain, right?
Nick: As a matter of fact, it does, and I'll bet you could tell me all the details about it.
Max: No, I -- no, I couldn't, but I'm sure you could. But just please do not explain exactly how it happens, okay?
Nick: You're not in the mood for a lecture?
Max: No, no, not really. No. No. What I don't know I don't have to think about, right?
Nick: I think you know more than you let on, Max.
Max: Wrong. Like you said, what you see is what you get. Right, Steph?
Stephanie: That's true of me, but with you, I think there's a lot more that we don't know about.
Max: You're wrong.
Nick: Actually, I'm -- I'm with Steph on this one.
Max: Wow. You -- you guys are really just not gonna let this go, are you?
Max: You know what? I'm tired of you guys thinking I'm something I'm not. Ask me a question. I'll give you a truthful answer. What do you want to know about me?
Amber: If I caught you at a bad time, I-I can come back later.
Daniel: No, no, no. This -- this is -- it's a co-ed locker room.
Amber: [Sighs] I should introduce myself. Amber Kress, second-year resident.
Daniel: Uh, Dr. Daniel Jonas, but, then again, you -- you already know that.
Amber: Yeah, and so does every female in the hospital and some of the men, too.
Daniel: Hmm. [Chuckles nervously] Well, it's, uh, it's nice to meet you.
Amber: Believe me, the pleasure's all mine. I, uh, see that you already showered.
Daniel: Uh, yep.
Amber: You know, I hear that you're into conservation and green technology and stuff like that.
Daniel: Yeah, I am. Yeah, Dr. Carver asked me to, uh, talk to the board about making some environmentally friendly changes.
Amber: Like that hospital you did in Sweden?
Daniel: You, uh, you know about that?
Amber: Yeah. I, uh, I searched you -- virtually -- and, uh, I got to say, I really liked what I found.
Daniel: Well, don't believe everything you read.
Amber: Anyway, uh, I'm into conserving energy -- for some activities, anyway.
Daniel: Mm. Uh, that's good for you.
Amber: You sure would be. And, uh, I'd be good for you, too. Really, it's, uh, too bad that you've already showered, 'cause had we showered together, just think of how much water we could have saved.
Lucas: Why? Why the hell is Sami staying in the DiMera house?!
Officer: Horton, I need you to calm down.
Lucas: Tell me. Mickey, tell me right now! Why?!
Guard: I am not gonna ask you again.
Maggie: Lucas, lower your voice.
Lucas: Fine, fine, I will. Are they okay? Are the kids okay? Is Sami all right?
Mickey: They're fine, but I need you to take it down a notch. You're not out of here yet.
Lucas: Why is she living with John and Marlena?
Mickey: For a few reasons, mainly because she needed help with the kids. Look, Sami was running low on money. She couldn't get a job because of the high cost of childcare. So when Marlena offered her a place to stay and help with the kids, she jumped on it.
Lucas: Why is Marlena staying there?
Maggie: Because of John. He moved in, and Marlena decided to be with him -- to see if by her being around it couldn't help him remember who he really is and what they used to have together.
Lucas: I had no idea. I had no idea things were so bad.
Maggie: Well, how could you?
Lucas: I should have known. I should have taken a call from Sami or let her come see me. Then I would have known what she was going through.
Maggie: Don't blame yourself.
Lucas: How can I not blame myself? It's my fault. I let everybody down. It's all my fault.
Mickey: No, no. Now that you know what's going on and you're under house arrest, you can't go out and get a job, so you'd be able to help with the kids.
Lucas: That's right. I am. I'm gonna be a great Dad. I'm gonna be there for my family's needs in every way.
Maggie: Good for you.
Lucas: And I can't wait to get back home. But I want you both to be honest with me. Tell me right now -- is there anything else I need to know about Sami's situation?
E.J.: I've wanted you for such a long time.
Sami: Shut up. Just shut up and kiss me. [Giggles]
Sami: Oh! [Sighs]
Nick: Did you adjust my work, Max?
Max: No. But I gave it to someone who did.
Max: One of the professors at school.
Max: I did it because some of the stuff on the pages got the worst of the beer spill and I just couldn't read it.
Nick: Why wouldn't you just give it to me?
Max: Because I wanted to help, and if I hadn't, your proposal would have gotten rejected.
Nick: Which professor did you give it to?
Nick: All right. Well, um, I'll just go and give him a call right now.
Max: Fine. I don't know what's gotten into him.
Stephanie: You have to admit, you've been acting strangely about this whole thing.
Max: Well, Steph, I'm a pretty strange guy. Look, you look antsy. Why don't you call the hospital and see if there's been any change?
Stephanie: Okay, sure. I'll go outside where it's quiet.
Max: Hi. Can I have Professor Simmonds' number, please?
Nick: Professor Simmonds, uh, Nick Fallon. I need to ask you a question.
Lexie: Theo went right to sleep.
Abe: Oh, good. You know, you look exhausted.
Lexie: Yeah. It's been a long day.
Abe: Well, I have some wine. So I poured a glass for you.
Lexie: Oh. Well, thanks.
Abe: Yes. [Chuckles]
Lexie: Well, it's been a long time since we just sat like this together.
Abe: Well, we've both been so busy at work.
Lexie: And raising Theo.
Abe: He's growing up so fast. I-I really can't believe it.
Lexie: Yeah, me, neither. [Exhales deeply] My back is killing me.
Abe: Would you like a massage?
Abe: All right. Yes. Here we go. Let me take care of that. There we go. Okay. How's that feel?
Lexie: Yeah, it feels good.
Abe: Yeah. Is that okay?
Lexie: Mm. Yeah.
Abe: Oh, good, good, good. [Smooches] [Chuckles] [Smooches]
Lexie: [Chuckles] Goodness gracious. What are you doing?
Abe: Let's go upstairs.
Lexie: Oh. That may be about Kayla's baby. Hello? Yes, this is she.
Amber: So, I heard that you were leaving town.
Daniel: Yeah, I'm -- I'm in a consult on a few interesting cases and just want to see how they break.
Amber: So, you're staying?
Daniel: Yeah, at least for a few weeks. Work some kinks out. But I-I really -- really haven't decided.
Amber: I heard that Dr. Carver offered you a staff position.
Daniel: No secrets here, huh?
Amber: Why? Do you have something to hide?
Daniel: Not much.
Amber: I'll, uh, be the judge of that.
Daniel: I-I-I-I -- I'm -- I really need to get some clothes on.
Amber: So, uh, are you at least considering the offer?
Daniel: Well, it -- it would help if there was an ocean nearby.
Amber: Oh, that's right. You're -- you're a surfer.
Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Every -- every chance I get.
Amber: Me too. God, it has been forever since I've been on dawn patrol.
Daniel: Well, who knew I'd run into Wahine here, huh?
Amber: We should go together sometime, make a weekend out of it.
Daniel: Oh! Whoa. Uh...
Amber: Are you okay?
Daniel: Yeah. No. Yeah. No. Yes, I'm fine. It's -- it's -- my back. Surfing in the reef.
Amber: Oh. I, uh, I need to go, but...I'm gonna page you and, uh, we'll find a time where we can hook up.
Daniel: Look, Amber, you -- you seem like a pretty cool chick -- uh, doctor -- but, um, I-I-I got to be honest with you.
Amber: You're seeing someone, right?
Daniel: Yes. Yes, I-I am.
Amber: Well, she's a lucky woman.
Daniel: Mm. Yeah.
Amber: If, um, things don't work out... call me.
Daniel: You -- you have a good day, Doctor.
Amber: Thank you.
Daniel: Yeah. Uh... oh, wait. Hold on.
Chelsea: So, you're seeing somebody, huh?
Daniel: I had -- I had -- I had to tell her something.
Chelsea: Were you talking about me?
Lucas: Anything else I should know before I go back home or to the DiMera Mansion?
Mickey: Well, John's fully aware that you'll be staying with him. In fact, the court wouldn't approve our request until John agreed.
Lucas: He's not gonna remember who I am, though.
Maggie: Honey, John doesn't remember who anyone is.
Lucas: We, great. It should be interesting.
Mickey: Yeah. Very. Unless you want to stay here for another night, you'll sign these papers so we can get you home to your family.
Lucas: Sounds good to me. I'll sign right away. Lucas Horton.
Mickey: All right. I'll take these to the warden, and this gentleman will reunite you with your old clothes and provide transport back to the mansion.
Lucas: Sounds good to me. Get me out of here. Thank you, Uncle Mickey and Aunt Maggie.
Mickey: We're just glad you're going home.
Lucas: Me too. Me too. Hey, you know what? Um, a little present for you. I got to go -- I got to go home, but you can have my doughnuts if you'd like.
Officer: No, thanks.
Lucas: All right. Suit yourself. I got to go. Thanks again.
Maggie: You're welcome. [Chuckles] That was a close call.
Mickey: No kidding. Could you imagine if we told Lucas that E.J. was staying with Sami?
Maggie: Yes. Sami is gonna have to tell Lucas about his new living arrangements herself.
E.J.: Wow. It's like Johnny and Allie have a sixth sense.
Sami: I never thought they'd go back to sleep.
E.J.: They were probably feeding off some of my anxiety.
Sami: Are you feeling anxious, E.J.?
E.J.: A little. Are you?
Sami: Not at all. In fact, I'm just starting to feel tired. I, um --
Sami: Yes. Maybe I'm not really in the mood anymore.
E.J.: Really? It looks like I have my work cut out for me. Now, if I remember correctly, I was doing a little bit of -- a little bit of that.
Sami: I remember that.
E.J.: Yeah. And a little bit of this. [Smooches]
Sami: I remember that, too.
E.J.: And I think you were doing something like this.
Sami: I think I was doing this.
E.J.: I think so.
Stephanie: The hospital doesn't have any news. Who were you talking to?
Max: I was just checking on a beer shipment.
Nick: I just called Professor Simmonds. He wasn't in, so I left a voice mail.
Nick: If Simmonds corrected any of my work, I'll have to give him credit.
Max: I'm sure he doesn't want it, Nick.
Nick: Well, I'll have to hear that from him.
Max: Fine by me.
Stephanie: One little lie can lead to another, can't it, Max?
Max: What do you mean?
Stephanie: I mean, I know what you've really done.
Lexie: Okay. Yes. Yes. All right. I'll see you tomorrow.
Abe: Theo woke up while you were on the phone. I got him back to sleep.
Abe: You know, he has to be picking up on our tension. We don't agree on anything -- not even what's best for our son.
Lexie: Maybe that's why we need a marriage counselor.
Abe: I guess.
Lexie: Abe, I want this to work.
Abe: I know. We both do. Marriage is hard. I mean, we -- we both knew that going into this.
Lexie: Yeah. I don't want to lose you.
Abe: I don't want to lose you, either.
Chelsea: I am the reason you stayed in Salem.
Daniel: There are so many reasons.
Chelsea: Why is it so hard for you to admit that I mean something to you?
Daniel: Because I-I-I can't give you false hope, Chelsea. You and I -- we can't ever happen.
Chelsea: Yeah, that's what you keep saying, but it's clearly not true. The way you kiss me... touch me.
Daniel: Look -- look, I-I'm not made of stone. But you show up here, and you -- you... [Exhales deeply] You are so beautiful, and you have this life to you, this vitality, and I -- oh! Mm. But I'm not gonna allow us to fall into something that is just so -- so wrong for you.
Chelsea: We can make this work, Daniel. You just have to want it. Come on. Give us a chance.
Daniel: Chelsea, I know what you're asking, and I can't do it.
Chelsea: Then why haven't you left already?
Daniel: You know why.
Chelsea: Oh. Right. Because you're consulting on some cases, and professional reasons are what keep you here.
Daniel: Yeah. Yeah. That's right.
Chelsea: I don't believe you. You want me. So, what's the problem? And don't say it's because of the age thing or because you're afraid of hurting me.
Daniel: No, the problem is you deserve a commitment, and I can't give it to you.
Chelsea: Sure, you can.
Daniel: No. No, Chelsea. I cannot.
Chelsea: Okay, fine. So, then, where do we go from here?
Daniel: Well, I'll tell you one thing we can't do is meet here.
Chelsea: Why, 'cause you're afraid you might actually give in to your feelings?
Daniel: No. I'm afraid you're gonna mistake it for what you want.
Chelsea: Okay. Fine. I'm gonna go. But just so you know... we're not over.
Stephanie: I'm the one who mailed in Nick's papers, and I saw you working on them all night long. This has got to stop.
Max: Okay, fine. So stop already. What do you want from me?
Stephanie: The truth.
Max: I told you the truth.
Stephanie: No, you didn't. Max, if we don't have honesty and trust, then we don't have anything.
Max: All right. Fine. I did the work, okay? I found Nick's mistakes, and I fixed them. Are you happy now?
Lucas: Well, here we go. I can't wait to see the look on Sami's face when she sees me.
Kayla: I can hear him crying. We need to get to our baby.
Steve: Kayla...our baby's gone.
Hope: I'm just glad this thing is finally over with.
Bo: I'm not sure about that.
