Sami: Unbelievable. I mean, that worthless, stupid, mindless -- and that slut.

Dr. Rolf: Shh! Shh! Shh! Samantha!

Sami: How could she --

Dr. Rolf: Der kleine Kinder -- Der Ausschlafend.

Sami: Oh, right. Sorry, Rolf.

Dr. Rolf: Bless their little hearts. Oh. I keep forgetting. Um [Clears throat] Hey, the kids -- they're cool. Samantha, what is wrong?

Sami: Nothing, Rolf. Everything is perfect. I live in this great house. I have these two healthy, happy, sleeping children, and what could I possibly have to complain about?

Dr. Rolf: Well, that is an excellent question, but you still seem very agitated.

Sami: Because I'm stuck with this man who is so stupid and arrogant and pompous and blind and -- uhh!

Dr. Rolf: I assume you are referring to master Elvis.

Sami: Yes. That is exactly the arrogant ass that I'm referring to.

E.J.: Nicole... we can't.

Nicole: Speak for yourself.

E.J.: Mnh-mnh. Sorry. I-I just -- I-I can't get over the feeling that I'm cheating on Samantha.

Nicole: [Sighs]

Stephanie: Max.

Max: Hey. I came right down as soon as I got your text.

Stephanie: I thought you'd be here already, working.

Max: I, uh -- I got the night off.

Stephanie: Oh. Look --

Max: Hold on. Before you say anything, um... about Nick's grant stuff, I'm so sorry that I-I lied to you and that I didn't trust you.

Stephanie: So am I.

Bo: Angelo, move over there. Scott, pat him down. You two, on your feet.

Hope: On your feet. Hands behind your head.

Bo: Weapon on the table -- slow. Pat t him down. Hands behind your back. Give me your cuffs.

Scott: He's clean.

Bo: Get these two clowns out of here. Is something funny?

Martino: No, this is not a funny moment. Detective, look, whatever you think you've got -- whatever case you're building -- you need to rethink it, because you've got absolutely nothing.

Hope: That'll change his mind.

Martino: You want me to guess, or are you gonna tell me?

Bo: We found this on the guy who was going to shoot Steve Johnson.

Martino: What's that got to do with me?

Bo: It belonged to Neusbaum. And you might find this funny. The idiot who had it in his possession -- I think he's the one that killed your shrink.

Kayla: I-I need -- I need an ambulance right away, please. Oh.

[Beep] Oh, no. No, no, no.

Steve: Kayla? What's going on?

Kayla: Thank God you're here.

Steve: What's wrong? What's happening, baby?

Kayla: It's too soon.

Steve: What is it? The baby?

Kayla: Oh, it's too soon.

Steve: Did you call 911?

Kayla: Yeah. Oh! Oh!

Steve: It's gonna be all right.

Nicole: Okay. That wasn't humiliating.

E.J.: Look, Nicole, I mean, it's just --

Nicole: No, I-I get it, E.J. You shouldn't, you couldn't... you can't, you won't.

E.J.: Okay, you do get it.

Nicole: Yes, I do. You and Sami share a child together, so you want to stay close to her for the sake of your precious son. Look, that is just -- that's not right to do that. I even suggested that you should take your son and --

E.J.: Let me -- please. Let me finish, okay? It's not about wanting to be close to Samantha. I really love her.

Nicole: [Sighs] You know that Sami will never care about you. She is in love with Lucas. She is obsessed with him. And the minute he wanders back into her life, you are a ghost.

E.J.: Okay. Well, that might not be the case for too much longer. I have a plan.

Sami: I have had it, Rolf. My husband is a two-faced, sneaky, lying, slut-chasing jerk, and I have had it.

Dr. Rolf: I see.

Sami: You know what? The good news is I am not bonded to him for life. I mean, we have a child together, and I understand that, but that doesn't mean that I have to like him.

Dr. Rolf: [Chuckles] Didn't you say before that you thought he was trying to be a better person?

Sami: Clearly I was mistaken. Obviously he is not capable of changing. All he's capable of doing is driving me insane.

Dr. Rolf: [Chuckles] Samantha, even though you say you don't like the man, don't you do the fumph, fumph, fumph in your heart -- the little pitter-patter?

Sami: No, Rolf! There's no fumphing in my heart, and it's certainly not pittering or pattering. I'll have you know, for the record, that I have absolutely no feelings for E.J. I certainly don't love him, and if I did, which I don't -- if I did --

Dr. Rolf: Well, to be perfectly frank, that is why I never had much use for emotions.

Sami: You know, you're right. I should just ignore all of my emotions.

Dr. Rolf: Well, with the exception of the one emotion which will never steer you wrong -- fear. It is the most effective survival technique to which one must always succumb. The more one cultivates paralyzing fear, terror, and dread, accompanied by severe nausea when possible, the less likely one is to die an untimely, pitiful death.

Sami: You really have a way of cheering people up, Rolf.

Dr. Rolf: Well, I only tell you what I truthfully believe.

Sami: You know what? All right. I'll take your advice. I am going to cultivate my feelings of terror and fear and ignore every other emotion.

Dr. Rolf: No. Look, Samantha, please don't get me wrong. If you truly love someone, there is nothing more, well, inspirational. Think of all the beautiful symphonies that have been written in the name of love.

Sami: I just want to talk to Lucas. I want to see him. I-I know he could help -- you should have seen the letter he wrote me, telling me to forget about him, telling me to move on.

Dr. Rolf: Um...well, I-I really don't know if it's my place to say it --

Sami: Rolf, you can say anything to me.

Dr. Rolf: Well, earlier this evening, I, uh -- I overheard E.J. on the phone talking to, uh, Warden Pruitt at Statesville. It seems that you might be seeing Lucas much sooner than you thought.

Max: I never should have lied, 'cause I know how much it upset you.

Stephanie: Yeah, it upset me a lot. But then I realized that you were just trying to help Nick and be a good friend.

Max: That's all it was, I swear.

Stephanie: Then why couldn't you just have told me that?

Max: Look, things are weird between me and Nick when it comes to school and stuff like that. You know serious he gets with academics, and then he gets this kind of tunnel vision where nothing else matters and it warps his sense of reality.

Stephanie: How do you mean?

Max: This isn't the first time that he's accused me of messing with his work.

Stephanie: It happened before?

Max: Yes and no. Like not the same. I mean, I took a page out of his paper so I could write a phone number down, and he got all freaked out about it. And then when he found out that I didn't really do anything, he -- he -- it kind of blew over.

Stephanie: So it just made him suspicious of you -- that's what you're saying?

Max: Yeah. This time, I don't know. Like -- I don't think we'll ever work through it.

Stephanie: Max, the reason why Nick is acting this way is because this is his life. He has put everything he has into this.

Max: I know. You don't have to keep reminding me of that. That's what got me in trouble in the first place.

Stephanie: Okay, I'm sorry.

Max: Look, I was trying to do something good. But then I did something really stupid, and I don't want to do that ever again... because what killed me the most -- I mean, the look on your face when you -- when you knew that I lied.

Stephanie: It just scared me more than anything.

Max: It scared you?

Stephanie: Yeah. Seeing how easy it was for you. I mean, I couldn't help but think that it would be that easy for you to lie to me.

Max: No.

Stephanie: You know that I already have major trust issues.

Max: I do. I do. I was scared, too. It's just the thought of, like, something coming between us. Never again. I swear.

Stephanie: I tried to stay mad at you, but I just couldn't do it.

Max: I -- oh, man. Look, we're gonna go through these misunderstandings, and we're gonna fight. We're gonna disagree. It's just what couples do. It's natural.

Stephanie: I hate that part.

Max: I know. But you know what part I like better?

Stephanie: Hmm?

Max: This part.

Bo: You're done, Vitali. You had Neusbaum killed, and we got the proof.

Martino: According to who? What kind of fantasy world do you people live in?

Hope: We found the doctor's wallet on one of your employees.

Bo: Along with a rifle. And I've got this interesting feeling that ballistics will connect the bullet that killed Neusbaum to this rifle. If we just connect the dots, they'll lead us to you.

Ava: What did you do, Daddy?

Martino: Nothing. Supercops here think they've got an open-and-shut case on me, but they don't. You need to pin that murder on whoever it is you arrested, not me. Besides, you can't prove that he even works for me.

Ava: No, but I can.

Stephanie: You know, your whole making-up theory --

Max: Mm-hmm.

Stephanie: You just might be on to something.

Max: I don't want you ever mad at me again, and I don't want to do anything but make you feel good.

Stephanie: I like that idea. Are you, um, ready for another great idea?

Max: What do you got?

Stephanie: Okay. Since you have the night off, I say we go to Buddy's, pick up some burgers, shakes, definitely some fries --

Max: Uh-oh.

Stephanie: Get it go, drive up to lookout point, and... eat in the car. How's that sound?

Max: It sounds like a bad case of indigestion waiting to happen. I had a better idea planned.

Nicole: All right, this ought to be good. What's your plan?

E.J.: Okay. So, to cut it short, Statesville Prison has a serious overcrowding problem, okay? And they are allowing some of the prisoners to be released early under a home-arrest program.

Nicole: Very un-Hollywood, but okay.

E.J.: All right. So, I called the warden, as a representative of Mickey's office, and I asked him to have Lucas put on that list. Now, we haven't got an answer yet, but hopefully we should get one by the end of the week.

Nicole: Wait a minute. Hold on. Slow down. How is getting Lucas out of prison gonna help you win Sami's love?

E.J.: Okay, look. If I want to win Samantha's affections fair and square, I can't do that if Lucas is in prison playing some poor, dejected hero.

Nicole: Which I'm sure he's playing it to the hilt.

E.J.: Absolutely. But why should he be doing that? The guy is guilty. He shot me. You understand?

Nicole: Remind me again. Did he shoot you in the brain?

E.J.: [Sighs] Sweetheart, all I'm saying is I'm the victim here, all right? And the sooner I can remind Samantha of that, the better.

Sami: Wait. Wait. Back up. Rolf, you overheard E.J. Talking to the warden at Statesville?

Dr. Rolf: Well, just barely. He was hardly speaking above a whisper.

Sami: But he was talking about trying to get Lucas released?

Dr. Rolf: Correct.

Sami: Why would he want to help Lucas get out of prison?

Dr. Rolf: I don't know.

Sami: Did you hear him say anything else?

Dr. Rolf: No.

Sami: Well, I'm glad you heard, and -- and I'm very glad that you told me about it. Thank you.

Dr. Rolf: Well, being helpful is my greatest gift. Enjoy. My true gift -- my -- my calling, if you will.

Sami: Really? Wow. That's great. Well, if you happen to overhear anything else that would be helpful to me, um, I'd really appreciate it.

Dr. Rolf: Well... [Clears throat] It all depends.

Sami: On?

Dr. Rolf: On what's in it for me.

Sami: Okay. I owe you one.

Dr. Rolf: Very good. I'll collect when the time is right.

Sami: I have no doubt of that. [Scoffs] Creep. E.J., You better pick up the phone.

Stephanie: [Chuckles]

Max: What?

Stephanie: I am really blown away that you planned all this.

Max: My picnic skills are pretty impressive, even when the atmosphere isn't right.

Stephanie: It doesn't matter about the atmosphere. At least we're alone.

Max: Mustard, no mayo, right? I got that. Here.

Stephanie: Yeah.

Max: What?

Stephanie: I was just about to tell you how romantic you are, but all you want to do is talk about mustard and mayo, so I take it back.

Max: Give me a break. You said you were hungry. That's why I was focused on the sandwich. Hey, I'd much rather be focused on you. We should probably eat our sandwiches before the ants get to them.

Stephanie: Yeah, yeah, yeah. What do we have? [Gasps] Strawberries -- my favorite.

Max: Oh.

Stephanie: [Laughs] Good?

Max: Yeah. But that was supposed to be for dessert.

Stephanie: Oh, no. They're much better as an appetizer.

Max: Oh, really? How come I don't know about this?

Stephanie: Stick with me, kid.

Max: I think I will. I don't know where I'd be without you.

Stephanie: Why would you even think about that?

Max: 'Cause I do, you know? I mean, I'd probably be worse off. I'd be miserable, and I'd be alone.

Stephanie: Oh, you poor baby.

Max: I'm serious. You don't know how lucky I am.

Stephanie: I'm the lucky one. The luckiest girl in the world.

Sami: Wow. You're finally back. You missed getting to put the twins to bed, but I'm sure you had plenty of fun with Nicole in that steam room, so I guess your priorities are pretty good.

E.J.: It's lovely to see you, too, Samantha.

Sami: So, how was Nicole, anyway?

E.J.: Wonderful, amazing. Nothing happened.

Sami: Right.

E.J.: It's true.

Sami: And you're so convincing when you say it. And you're always so forthright with me, so obviously I should totally believe you.

E.J.: Samantha, I have absolutely nothing to gain by lying to you.

Sami: Well, you had nothing to gain by sleeping with Nicole, except for maybe a communicable disease, but that didn't stop you.

E.J.: I'm gonna go have a shower.

Sami: Actually, I'd love to give you some advice for that shower. You might want to use some bleach, maybe lye soap.

E.J.: Well, you wait right here. We'll continue this little tête-à-tête when I get back.

Sami: Wait. You're not going anywhere until you explain to me what you're doing trying to get Lucas out of prison.

E.J.: Oh, you know about that, do you?

Sami: So it's true. Why the Hell are you trying to help him get released? What? Out of the goodness of your heart? 'Cause, of course, you would never have an ulterior motive.

E.J.: As a matter of fact, Samantha, it is out of the goodness of my heart.

Sami: And I'm an American Gladiator.

E.J.: Maybe. The truth is very simple. You love Lucas. I know that. And whether you want to believe it or not, I really want you to be happy.

Sami: That's a very lovely sentiment, E.J. I wish you had been thinking that the night that Johnny was conceived.

Nicole: [Sighs] Here I am all alone at the Salem Health Club on the late night. [Scoffs] It could be worse. Maybe not. [Exhales sharply] Time to cozy up to an old friend.

Ava: I know my father was going after Patch, and I know everyone on his payroll, so if anyone can make a positive I.D., It's me.

Martino: Ava, shut your mouth.

Ava: No. You tried to kill the man that I love.

Martino: You don't know what you're talking about.

Ava: I trusted you, Daddy. I trusted you, and I trusted my psychiatrist, and little did I know he was trying to drug me and make me go insane.

Angelo: No, Ava. It wasn't him.

Martino: Great. Another person they heard from.

Angelo: It wasn't that quack who messed you up.

Martino: Angelo, you keep your mouth shut.

Angelo: You know, I stood by. I did nothing for too long. And seeing you messed up like that because of those drugs killed me. But I care too much about you to keep this lie going.

Ava: Tell me, Angelo.

Angelo: The doctor was giving you those drugs...but it was on orders from your father.

Steve: How's she doing?

EMT: Vitals are stable. We need to move.

Kayla: It's too soon. It's too soon.

Steve: I know, sweetness. I know.

Kayla: I can't be in labor. If I give birth, I'll lose the baby.

Steve: No, no, no, no. It's not gonna happen. It's not gonna happen.

E.J.: Is that where this is coming from?

Sami: You know what? Just take your shower. I'm gonna check on the twins.

E.J.: No. Wait, Samantha. The twins are fine. Is that why you're so angry -- because of how Johnny was conceived?

Sami: You think I have ever forgotten about that night? You think I can just move on? I can't look at my son without remembering that night. I -- I love him, okay? I-I love Johnny more than anything in the world. But I can't ever forget where he came from.

E.J.: I'm not proud of what I did that night. I'm deeply ashamed. Samantha, to say that what I did was a terrible mistake would be...an -- an understatement, but I never intended to hurt you. I made love to you that night because of the way that I felt about you, and... at the time, I really -- I-I thought that you felt the same way.

Sami: You are so egotistical. I told you that I loved Lucas. I told you I was in love with my husband.

E.J.: I was deluding myself. Samantha, if I could take it all back, if I could go there and change it, I would. You're talking about the biggest mistake of my life.

Sami: Well, it's too little, too late. You think I came out of it unscathed? Do you think -- just because you couldn't see the bruises doesn't mean they weren't there.

E.J.: I hurt you? How was that even possible?

Sami: Bruises -- E.J., I mean emotional scars.

E.J.: I-I never meant to hurt you. I never meant to hurt you. I promise you. If I injured you in any way --

Sami: Stop it! Okay? It's not that. You -- we both were there, okay? We both know...that it wasn't like that, all right? It's not -- why were you such a sleaze afterwards? Wh-- why were you like that to me? That was the worst part.

E.J.: Okay, I-I -- I-I don't have any defense for what I did, 'cause there is none. The last thing I expected from you was what I got. I didn't think you'd be disgusted with me. Samantha, I -- look, just -- just -- please. We've avoided talking about this for a really long time, okay? And for me -- I-I -- what I did was -- was indefensible and inexcusable. But I really thought that night... that if we could be together, that things would change, that this -- this separation that was between us would go away. Look, I was wrong. I-I understood that really quickly. And I was so embarrassed and humiliated by that, by how disgusted you were with me, that I took all my anger and I brought it all against you, and I am so sorry. And I can never apologize enough for it, and I can never make up for it in any real way, but you have to know that in everything I've done since then, I have tried to change because of that for you. That moment -- it didn't just change your life. It changed mine, too, in a very different way. Understanding what I did... and understanding how much I hurt you, that's the reason that I did all of this. To try and make up for that is the reason that I turned my father in. It's the reason that I helped your mother find John. It's the reason that I left every single part of my family and my history behind me. I'm a completely different person...because every single day, I'm just trying -- I'm trying so hard to do something to just -- to bring some balance back. And I don't expect that it's gonna happen any time soon. But in my heart, I-I hope that one day... you might be able to find it within yourself... you know, to wipe the slate clean... because I am so sorry.

Stephanie: Should we be doing this?

Max: No, we shouldn't.

Stephanie: I mean, not that I don't...want to.

Max: Mnh-mnh. If we had more time, we could go back to my place.

Stephanie: I want to, but...

Max: [Groans] Can we just like stay like this for like a minute or two?

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Max: Or like a thousand?

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Ava: My God, it's true.

Martino: No, it's not. He's lying to you.

Ava: Why would you do that to me? Huh? Why would you drug me -- your own daughter? Is it because of what I remembered?

Martino: Ava, there's nothing to remember.

Ava: Yes, there is.

Martino: Damn it. Knock it off!

Bo: Shut up, man. Let her talk.

Hope: Ava, what is it?

Ava: It's what you wanted me to forget, isn't it? Huh? It's been there all the time, that memory that was right -- right below the surface trying to make its way out. You didn't want me to remember it, and so you pumped me full of drugs. Isn't that it, Daddy?

Martino: You're not making any sense.

Ava: It was mom... right? You didn't want me to remember what you did to her.

Martino: Ava, you're talking crazy now.

Ava: No, you were resp-- you're responsible. She was gonna leave, and so you had her taken out.

Martino: Where do you get this stuff? How could you think of such a thing?

Ava: I'm not thinking it, Daddy! I remember it! I remember. I heard you admit it to one of your thugs right after I tried to take my life. What, did you think I was too out of it, that I wasn't gonna be able to hear? I did, and I remember! You had my mother killed! You sick son of a bitch!

Martino: Ava --

Bo: Gun!

[Gunshot]

Sami: E.J... if you want to be a good father to Johnny... you have a lot of work cut out for you, starting with... being a good role model... which means not cavorting in steam rooms with people like Nicole.

E.J.: I told you, nothing happened with Nicole.

Sami: And you expect me to believe that because?

E.J.: Because I told her that I loved you.

Sami: You what?

E.J.: I told her that I loved you.

Sami: [Exhales sharply] I'm not saying I believe it's true, but it's certainly nice... to think that Nicole thinks that. Fine.

E.J.: Fine? Fine what?

Sami: Fine. Look, you said you wanted a clean slate. So okay. Fine.

E.J.: Just like that? It's a lot to ask.

Sami: No. Look, we're talking about our son and moving on and letting go, and, um, you've done a lot of good things, as you pointed out, and you were willing to help Lucas come back.

Dr. Rolf: May I help you?

Nicole: Out of my way, Ralph.

[Door slams]

Nicole: [Gasps] There they are -- the happy couple. A picture of marital bliss, poster children for domestic paradise. How cute!

Dr. Rolf: I'm sorry. She just barged in.

Sami: It's like trying to stop a train wreck, isn't it, Rolf?

Nicole: Give me a martini, Ralph -- straight up with a twist.

Sami: Oh, don't bother, Rolf, because she's not staying.

Nicole: Miss me, honey?

Sami: Get away from him.

E.J.: Is there a reason for your visit?

Nicole: A reason? [Chuckles] I don't need a reason.

Sami: You know what? I'm calling the police.

E.J.: No, Samantha, don't. No, just --

Nicole: Fine. You know what? You want to know why I'm here? I'll tell you. I'm a glutton for punishment, and I need me some more.

E.J.: No, you don't.

Kayla: Steve! Oh!

Steve: I'm right here, sweetness. I'm right here.

Kayla: Oh, we can't lose the baby! The baby! The baby!

Steve: No, no, no. We're gonna be fine. The baby's gonna be fine.

Sami: What the hell are you doing?

Nicole: I don't know. I'm just letting nature take its course.

Sami: Okay, that's it. You are out of here. Turn around and march right out the door. Just tell your driver that this street is closed.

Nicole: You don't even want E.J.

Sami: Would you get out?!

Nicole: Why are you so selfish?! I just want to tell E.J...

E.J.: [Whistles] You think she got the hint?

Sami: I want you to stay away from that woman.

E.J.: Wait a second, Samantha. I'm not doing anything. She's the one who's chasing me.

Sami: How is that relevant?

E.J.: It's relevant because I can't stop her from turning up wherever she wants to, okay? It's a free country, after all.

Sami: Spare me.

E.J.: Look, I can't control what she does, okay? If she wants to have a crush on me...

Sami: Okay. You don't have to enjoy this.

E.J.: It was kind of fun watching you turf her out of here.

Sami: E.J., I want you to stay away from Nicole, or I swear to God -- I swear -- I will...

E.J.: What are you gonna do?

Ava: Oh, Daddy. Daddy... [Exhales sharply] How could you do this to me? How could you do this to me, you son of a bitch? [Crying]

Sami: [Exhales sharply] Oh, my God. [Breathing heavily]

E.J.: Is there a problem?

Sami: I just kissed you.

E.J.: Okay. How is that a problem, Samantha? We're married.

Sami: Don't -- don't talk to me like that. I'm not stupid.

E.J.: W-w-w-wait.

Sami: I can't believe I just -- what is wrong with me?

Max: You know, with everything going on... it means a lot to me having someone I can count on.

Stephanie: Always. I wish we could spend the night together.

Max: That would be fine with me.

Stephanie: But I don't want my parents to worry.

Max: Damn it. All right, we'll go, then. But not just yet.

Bo: Get him out of here. Someone ought to talk to her.

Roman: Yeah. I'll take care of it.

Hope: You didn't have a choice.

Bo: [Sighs]

Hope: What? What is it?

Bo: I j-- that son of a bitch got off easy.

Ava: What do you want?

Roman: Ava, I am sorry.

Ava: Yeah, right.

Roman: I mean it. But I also need to remind you you're out on bail. You can't leave town. You either, Angelo.

Ava: I'm not going anywhere.

Angelo: And I'm taking care of her, like always. Look, can we go?

Roman: For now, yeah, but stay close. We'll need a formal statement from you.

Angelo: No problem.

Roman: Listen... hey, Angelo. If you need anything, call.

Angelo: Let's go.

Roman: All right. Do you suppose you and Hope could give me a preliminary rundown before I go back to the station?

Bo: Yeah. We'll start with this. It's the wallet we found on the shooter that was trying to kill Steve Johnson.  [Cellphone rings] Oh. Brady. When? Okay, we're on our way.

Roman: What is it?

Bo: It's Steve. He's at the hospital.

Roman: Is he all right?

Bo: Kayla went into labor.

Roman: I got things here. Call me as soon as you get there.

Philip: You can justify anything, can't you, even keeping secrets about your own grandson?

Victor: What about the secrets that you're keeping from me?

Hope: Your mom's gone into labor.

Stephanie: She can't be having the baby. It's too soon.

Steve: Can the baby survive if it comes now?
