Sami: Daddy, where is Mr. Burke?
Roman: He's inside.
E.J.: I still don't understand why we had to meet here.
Roman: Well, I'm being questioned, too, and since I'm busy and didn't want to leave here, I suggested he use my office.
Sami: Have you talked to him yet?
Roman: I did. I told him that you were both very devoted to your family and that I would personally and professionally vouch for E.J. if it carried any weight.
E.J.: Thank you, Roman. I appreciate that.
Sami: Dad, thank you.
John: Is the immigration man present?
Sami: He's in my Dad's office.
John: Well, fantastic. Let's proceed without delay.
Nicole: Oh, I am so sorry. I hope I'm not too late.
Sami: What the hell are you doing here?
Max: Here you go.
Philip: Thanks, man. I haven't seen you down at the docks lately.
Max: Yeah. My hours have been crazy. I'm almost done with the community service. I only have a couple hundred hours to go.
Philip: Well, it's better than picking up trash on the side of the road.
Max: Yeah. Maybe. Anyway, as soon as I'm done with that, I'll look for a real third job to make ends meet.
Philip: You're joking, right?
Max: I wish I was, buddy.
Philip: Hey, Max, hold up a second.
Philip: If you're interested, I know a way you can make some extra cash and click off the rest of your community service hours at the same time.
Max: Okay. How?
Philip: It's really quite simple. You can keep an eye out on the docks and help me nail John Black.
Kate: Honey, I'm so sorry. I really am. I told your mom that I was gonna do everything I possibly could to lift your spirits.
Chelsea: Thank you.
Kate: Are you sure you're all right?
Chelsea: Yeah. I'm fine.
Kate: Are you sure? I know how devastating this must be.
Chelsea: I mean, yeah, the whole infertility thing is bad, but...it's not even really the worst part.
Nurse: Sir, you're not allowed in here.
Martino: I'm the patient's father.
Nurse: And I have my orders.
Martino: I've got a lawyer outside. He's got a court order from a judge that says I have a right to be here. You need to go check that out. Why don't you do that?
Steve: Go ahead.
Martino: I was hoping I'd never run into you again.
Steve: The feeling's mutual.
Martino: Honey, you okay? Listen, don't worry. Everything's gonna be all right. You got her tied down here. Is that necessary?
Kayla: Yes, as a matter of fact, it is.
Martino: And who are you?
Kayla: I'm one of the doctors overseeing your daughter's case and one of the four unhappy people that were held at your compound recently.
Martino: Well, I can't vouch for what did or didn't happen on my premises when I wasn't there, but I can tell you this. I'm not real sure that I like the fact that you're Ava's doctor.
Kayla: I'm not the physician on record, if that makes you feel any better, but I do have a bead on her diagnosis.
Martino: Can you tell me what's wrong with her?
Kayla: Sure. But first why don't you tell me why you put your daughter in the hands of a physician who made her unstable and dangerous?
Martino: [Sighs] I have no idea what you're saying. I have no idea what you're talking about.
Kayla: Can you tell me why her doctor prescribed medication for her that would cause her to have a psychotic break?
Martino: She was under the care of a very well-respected physician. He would never do anything to harm her -- nothing, ever.
Kayla: Well, whoever is responsible for giving Ava that medication wanted to make sure that she would lose her mind.
Ava: Is it true, Daddy? Did Dr. Neusbaum give me the wrong medication?
Kate: Honey, did something happen that you're not telling me about?
Chelsea: Nothing health-wise.
Kate: Okay. Then what is it?
Chelsea: I just kind of, sort of... got my feelings hurt.
Kate: By who?
Chelsea: Daniel. He took himself off my case, and then he told me that another doctor would oversee my postoperative care.
Kate: [Sighs] Honey, from what I understand, that's absolutely standard.
Chelsea: I know that, but I was comfortable with him, you know? I consider him a friend.
Kate: Just because he's no longer your doctor doesn't mean that you can't be friends.
Chelsea: I know that. Just when he told me, I felt like -- I don't know -- maybe I had done something to offend him?
Kate: No. No. I'm sure that's not -- that's not possible.
Chelsea: Then why would he dump me?
Kate: Chelsea, you're hoping that you and Daniel could be more than just friends, aren't you?
[Knock on door]
Kate: Let me get that. Look. Your boyfriend.
Sami: I said, "Why are you here?"
Nicole: Why do you think, sunshine? I'm here to testify about your unholy matrimony.
Sami: You can't testify, Nicole. You just got back to town.
Nicole: I've known you a long time. I'm the perfect character witness, don't you think?
Sami: Dad, do something. Arrest her. Kick her out, at least.
Roman: Nicole, if you're here to cause trouble --
Nicole: Oh, don't worry, Daddy-O. I'm here to help. So, I'm on my way over here, and I was starting to think, "why do you need my help, E.J.?" I mean, you were born in Salem on American soil, and then you moved to England a few months later. So don't you have dual citizenship?
E.J.: [Clears throat] Well, technically, I suppose I should, but my Mother tried to pass me off as another woman's child, and therefore my original birth certificate became null and void. Then when my parents moved to the U.K., they were frightened, so they registered me as Edmund's son, so I became a U.K. citizen, and any roots I had in the U.S. just disappeared for my own protection.
Nicole: Wow. I don't know about the rest of you, but I could use a drink after that very confusing bit of back story.
Sami: Well, why don't you go get yourself a drink? We won't mind. I certainly can't begin to understand why the immigration officer asked you to be here in the first place.
Nicole: They didn't. I volunteered.
Burke: I'd like to thank you all for coming. I will try not to take up too much of your time. I'd like to begin with Mr. John Black.
John: Okay. I've got your back.
Sami: Oh, God, that's exactly what I'm afraid of.
Sami: [Sighs] Why is this taking so long?
Marlena: Honey, Mr. Burke is just doing his job.
Nicole: You know, I think that John is giving that guy an awful earful about you.
Sami: You are such an --
Marlena: Sami. Stop it. You stay calm.
Roman: Your mom's right, Sami. Just take it easy.
Sami: I don't want her here.
Nicole: Come on, Sami. You have nothing to fear from me.
Sami: Nicole, if you do one thing to hurt his chances of staying in this country, I am not kidding, I --
Nicole: What? What? What will you do, Sami, huh? I'm dying to know.
Roman: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey. Both of you, settle down.
Marlena: Your father's right. The last thing you need is Mr. Burke walking out here and seeing you fighting with a character witness.
Roman: So, Nicole, are you really here to help?
Nicole: Of course I am.
Marlena: All right. Oh, I wish I knew what John was saying in there. You know, he remembers nothing at all about his life with Sami.
Burke: If you wouldn't mind, tell me why Mr. DiMera and your stepdaughter, Sami, are living with you.
John: Because they're my family.
Burke: But is it true you lost your memory?
Burke: So, how do you know they're not masquerading as husband and wife?
John: Because of what happened to me, I don't remember Samantha or her husband. But the last few weeks, I've been able to observe them with the objectivity of an outsider.
Burke: And what's your opinion, Mr. Black? Do they love each other?
John: To be sure. In fact, I don't even think those two kids realize just how much in love they really are.
Max: Philip, I appreciate you trying to put some cash in my pocket, but I'm not spying on John Black.
Philip: I didn't say "spy." But if you accidentally come across some info, then...
Max: Philip, no, all right? Your father already came to me, and I said no to him. I'm saying no to you right now.
Philip: I promise -- no risk involved, and I will make it worth your while.
Max: No risks involved? Really? You tried bringing Morgan's father down and ruined his career in the process. I'm not gonna be a part of something like that.
Nick: So, what have you been up to today?
Chelsea: Well, you know, lots of fun stuff. I, uh, read a little, watched some silly reality show on TV.
Nick: I can't wait until you can get out, because I got it all planned out.
Chelsea: Tell me.
Nick: Okay. We're gonna take Uncle Mickey's boat out to the Horton cabin and have a romantic picnic on the beach.
Chelsea: And you're planning this all on your own?
Nick: Yeah. How hard can it be?
Chelsea: I guess. Yeah.
Nick: So, uh, it's pretty nice out. What do you say we go into the backyard, maybe jump into Bo and Hope's hammock? Okay. You want to tell me what's going on?
Lexie: Well, I appreciate everything you've done for me and for the hospital.
Daniel: If you ever need my help again, please don't hesitate to call.
Lexie: Okay. Mind if I ask you a question?
Lexie: Are you really leaving Salem because you want to go and catch a wave, or is it because of Chelsea Brady?
Martino: Honey. What's wrong with her?
Kayla: Right now, she's going through withdrawals.
Martino: Easy, baby. I'm here. I'm gonna take care of it. It's okay. It's okay. Relax. Relax. Just calm down. Calm down.
Ava: You're gonna take care of me? You are?
Martino: Yeah, baby, you bet I am. You bet.
Ava: What's wrong with me? [Sniffles] What's wrong with me, huh? Why -- why was my own doctor giving me the wrong meds?
Martino: Honey, if he was, if there was a mistake, we'll find out about it and we'll deal with it. I promise you. I promise you.
Ava: So, there's nothing wrong with me, huh? All the time that I was locked up, there was nothing wrong, was there?
Martino: Ava, calm down. If there -- if there is -- okay? -- We'll deal with it. But if you want to blame someone for the situation you're in, you blame him, because I do.
Nick: I get the feeling you don't want me around.
Chelsea: No, it's just that I, you know, I need to rest. I'm still really tired.
Nick: Do you want me to go?
Chelsea: I'm still recovering.
Chelsea: Okay, and I'll just -- I'll call you when I'm feeling better, okay?
Nick: Fine. I'll see you later.
Daniel: No. No. I am not leaving because of Chelsea Brady.
Lexie: Oh. Well, you know, after you took yourself off her case, I just kind of assumed the two of you had some sort of falling out. [Cellphone ringing]
Daniel: Jonas. Hello? Well, whoever it was, they hung up.
Lexie: You know, I really wish you weren't leaving. You're an excellent doctor.
Daniel: Well, that's very kind. Thank you. And, yeah, I liked it here. You don't have much surf, though.
Lexie: Stay. Please.
Martino: Ava, honey, I'm gonna get you out of here, take you home. I'm gonna take care of you personally, okay? I promise.
Ava: I don't know, Daddy.
Steve: Hey. [Taps bed] I think it's time for you to go.
Martino: You don't tell me when to go.
Kayla: I'm her doctor, and I'm telling you to go.
Martino: We'll talk about this when we get home, okay?
Ava: I'm under arrest, Daddy. I'm not going home.
Martino: You're going home. Don't worry about it. I'll get you home.
Kayla: You are gonna feel better when those drugs are out of your system.
Ava: Yeah. Then what?
Kayla: Why don't you just rest?
Martino: Yeah, look, it's not a game show. You don't have a choice. Just get it done, all right?
Morgan: I heard you just try to get Max to spy for you. Is there anything you won't do?
Morgan: Hmm. Figured. Well, I can't keep you from your dirty Kiriakis tricks, but leave my friends out of it, okay?
Philip: Fine. I'll leave Max out of it... but only if you let me buy you a drink.
Morgan: [Chuckles] No. But I will let you play me in a game of darts.
Philip: Darts? [Chuckles] Okay. You're on.
Morgan: Okay. [Clears throat] Darts, please.
Philip: They're on the board.
Morgan: Not my special ones. No, they're not.
Max: [Clears throat]
Morgan: Thank you. See?
Philip: Uhh! Hey! Watch it. You ripped my shirt.
Morgan: Good thing you can afford another one. Take that as a warning, okay?
Philip: Ooh. I'm very intimidated.
Morgan: You should be.
Sami: Uh, John? I just wanted to make sure you didn't do anything that could hurt us with the immigration guy.
John: Now, why would I do that? I simply told the truth.
Sami: The real truth or -- or our version of the truth?
John: I'm having a hard time separating the two. Which would you prefer?
Sami: Never mind.
E.J.: Hey. Listen. Thank you for coming down here to testify. It means a lot.
Nicole: You're welcome. Maybe my participation will help expedite the handling of my divorce.
E.J.: Well, divorces from men like victor can take some time.
Nicole: Mm-hmm. Deportation from the good old U.S. of A. -- not so much.
Nicole: Relax. Don't get your boxers in a bunch, hot stuff.
E.J.: Listen. [Clears throat] If I were you, I would make sure that you don't say anything in there that either hurts my wife or upsets my chances of staying in this country and spending time with my son, okay?
Nicole: Cue the organ music and stir the martinis. Like I haven't heard that one before.
Sami: Thank you for sticking up for me.
E.J.: You're welcome.
Sami: I don't know if it's enough to help, though.
Morgan: I can't believe she actually asked you to leave.
Max: Well, not in so many words, but that was the gist of it.
Nick: Look, maybe she needed some time to just digest what happened. Not being able to have kids -- that's huge.
Morgan: Stephanie just went over there right now.
Nick: Well, I hope Stephanie can cheer her up. It's like I told her before -- I don't care that she can't get pregnant.
Max: You think she believes that?
Nick: Why wouldn't she?
Morgan: She probably thinks you're just telling her that to make her feel better.
Nick: That's not the case.
Max: I'll get some napkins.
Nick: You know what, Max? Don't even bother. It's this work that got me in trouble with Chelsea, anyway.
Morgan: Nick, wait. Nick. [Door closes] Ohh.
Philip: After you.
Philip: Did he get away?
Morgan: I would have caught him if it wasn't for you.
Philip: Maybe next time, you should use your darts.
Morgan: [Laughs sarcastically] Funny.
Philip: Can I ask you a question?
Philip: Are you always such a drama queen?
Morgan: What did you call me?
Philip: You heard me.
Chelsea: Sorry. I thought you might be Nick. He came by earlier. I just really wasn't up for him.
Stephanie: Oh, why?
Chelsea: I don't know.
Stephanie: Well, he's been really busy with his grant proposal. He's probably not as attentive as he usually is.
Chelsea: No, that wasn't it. I mean, he was really, really sweet, and I still really care for him. I just -- I don't know.
Stephanie: Are you thinking about breaking up with him?
Chelsea: No. I can't -- I can't think of anything like that right now. I can't make a decision that important right now.
Stephanie: Well, before you make a decision, you better make sure it's what you really want. I mean, you don't want to make a mistake that can't be undone.
Chelsea: I know that. So, um, what about you and Max? Did you guys...
Stephanie: Yeah. We did. It was... it was pretty amazing.
Chelsea: Good. You know, I'm -- I'm really happy that you guys are together.
Stephanie: Thank you. Me too. [Chuckles] I mean, I just -- I really think he's it. I can't imagine myself with anyone else.
Chelsea: I know. I used to feel that way about Nick until I met...
Chelsea: Am I crazy?
Stephanie: No. Absolutely not. But I thought you said that that wasn't going anywhere.
Chelsea: It's not. I mean, I don't think that it is. He's -- he's not interested in me in that way.
Stephanie: I don't know about that. Chelsea, I have seen the way that this guy looks at you, and I think he's totally into you.
Chelsea: Stephanie, please keep your voice down, okay?
Stephanie: I can't help it. He's so incredibly hot. I mean, no offense to Nick, but Daniel is gorgeous, smart. Are you gonna go after this guy?
Chelsea: I don't know.
Stephanie: You're so gonna go after him.
Chelsea: I mean, I do like -- I do...love him. I am in love with Daniel Jonas.
Martino: Oh, hey, Kate. Come here.
Martino: Oh, my God, it's good to see you. It's so good to see you.
Martino: Look at you. You look -- [Exhales deeply] You look gorgeous. You haven't changed a bit, honest to God.
Kate: Thank you. You don't look so bad yourself.
Martino: Oh, you're nice.
Kate: The years have been very kind to you, Marty.
Martino: [Exhales deeply] Mart-- did you call me?
Martino: You know, you're the only one that ever called me Marty. You know that? [Chuckles] Wow, it takes me back. Would you -- you want something to eat? You want a drink?
Kate: No. No, thanks. I have a meeting.
Martino: Oh. Okay. Well, yeah, I've got some things I've got to do, too. But we're gonna get together later and have dinner at the hotel, right? Oh, don't give me the look. Look, I-I meant what I said. No strings. Just real simple. A couple of friends just catching up -- that's it. I promise.
Kate: Okay. Sure.
Martino: All right. What's going on with you? You okay?
Kate: Actually --
Kate: No. No. I had a really horrible experience earlier.
Kate: Yeah. I stumbled on to a murder scene.
Martino: A murder scene? Are you kidding me? A sleepy, little town like this? That doesn't make any sense. Wow. Um, do you know anything about it?
Kate: No. No. I mean, the police questioned me, but I didn't see anything. And they didn't tell me anything, so...
Martino: [Exhales deeply] Well, now, I can see why you're upset. That would upset me. That -- that kind of stuff gives me the creeps. I-I don't like it.
Martino: I don't.
Kate: I forgot how squeamish you are.
Martino: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I-I -- you always know the right thing to say to make me feel good.
Kate: That's right.
Martino: I'm squeamish.
Kate: That was my job, remember?
Martino: Yeah. I do remember. I remember a lot.
Kate: So, did you accomplish what you came to Salem for?
Martino: Uh, no, not yet, but I will very soon.
Kate: Well, um, I'm gonna be late. I should go. I should go.
Martino: Yeah, well, let me -- hang on. Let me just pay for this glass of wine here and, uh, I'll walk you to your car. Sound like a deal?
Kate: It sounds like a deal.
Martino: All right. Come on.
Sami: What do you think that witch is saying about us?
E.J.: I don't know, but, seriously, giving yourself an ulcer is not gonna help.
Sami: Oh, yeah. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.
E.J.: Right. Nothing to worry about.
[Door opens] [Laughter]
Burke: Thank you for your cooperation and insight.
Nicole: Mm. You're welcome.
Nicole: Johnny is gonna have a nice time visiting his father in London. Oh! Maybe he should stop by Switzerland and visit Will on his way. [Gasps] You know what? At this rate, you're not gonna have anyone left in this country.
Roman: Hey, Sami! Sami! Sami! Take it easy.
Marlena: Roman, quiet.
Nicole: Jeez. I was just kidding.
Marlena: Remember where you are.
Marlena: Take a deep breath.
Burke: I'm ready for you.
E.J.: Actually, Mr. Burke, if you wouldn't mind, Samantha and I would like to talk to you together.
Burke: Very well. I have no objection.
E.J.: Here we go. Come on. [Door closes]
Stephanie: I don't get it. Why can't you and Daniel have a future together?
Chelsea: Because he doesn't -- he doesn't see me as anything more than just a patient.
Stephanie: Do you know that for a fact?
Chelsea: No. But when he told me that he was taking himself off my case, he was very professional and objective.
Stephanie: Yeah, well, I wasn't objective when I spoke with him.
Stephanie: After you called me, I walked downstairs and had a little talk with Dr. Jonas.
Chelsea: Well, what did he say?
Stephanie: Nothing that made sense. But I think it's because he knew that I was right.
Chelsea: You know what? [Clears throat] I'm actually getting pretty tired, and I don't really want to talk about this anymore.
Stephanie: You're right. I need to let you get your rest. I just wanted to check up on you. Feel better, okay?
Chelsea: All right.
Stephanie: Hey, um, I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time until Daniel realizes how special you are.
Chelsea: Thank you.
Stephanie: You're welcome.
[Knock on door]
Chelsea: What are you doing here?
Daniel: Just making one last house call before I leave town for good.
Chelsea: Uh, come in.
Daniel: Uh, thank you.
Chelsea: Um, my Dad and Hope are resting, but I could get them if you wanted.
Daniel: No, I-I was hoping to check on Bo but came by to tell you, uh, goodbye.
Chelsea: Oh, so, you're really leaving town?
Daniel: Yeah, I'm off to catch a wave on the sunshine coast.
Chelsea: Wow. Is that your thing? That's what you do. You ride in somewhere on your big, white horse and save a couple lives and then, what, paddle off on your board and catch the next big wave?
Daniel: It has its benefits.
Chelsea: Right. Because you don't have to stay in one place long enough to really establish any roots or, I don't know, develop a relationship with anybody, so... what kind of life is that?
Max: [Groans] I can't believe Nick left his work here.
Burke: E.J. first lived across the hall from you, Mrs. DiMera?
Sami: Yeah, that's right. In fact, I'll never forget the first time we met. He was just wrapped in a towel -- barely.
E.J.: It was -- I was locked out of my apartment. It was quite a first impression, eh?
Burke: And from there, your relationship...bloomed?
Sami: Well, not exactly.
E.J.: We had a few, uh, rough patches, but just the normal kind --
Sami: Yes, definitely. You know, normal rough patches.
E.J.: Yeah, I mean, we always came back to each other, didn't we, darling?
Sami: Funny how that happens.
Burke: But this man's family has tried to destroy your family for years?
Sami: Yes. But that's in the past. That's all in the past. Right, E.J.?
E.J.: Yeah. I really like to think that my love for Samantha is the beginning of a new era for the Brady's and the DiMeras.
Burke: That's all fine and well, but I have to ask you, Mrs. DiMera, do you love your husband?
Sami: I do.
Lexie: According to your chart, things are looking much better, Miss Vitali.
Ava: Where's patch?
Lexie: He and Kayla left.
Ava: And my Father?
Lexie: He's gone, too. Try to get some rest.
Stephanie: Can I get a burger?
Max: Uh, sure.
Stephanie: What you working on? That's Nick's notebook, isn't it?
Max: It is.
Stephanie: What are you doing to it?
Max: I'm just fixing it.
Kayla: Whoa. I went to medical school. I don't think I could figure that out.
Max: Probably. I just want to, uh, help out my friend.
Max: What was that for?
Stephanie: I don't know what you're doing and I don't think you have any idea, either, but, um, if you think you can fix it, I support you 100%.
Max: Thank you. It's worth a try, right?
Daniel: I-I would love to stick around Salem. I like it here, but I can't.
Chelsea: Why not? I mean, my grandpa says that you can basically like walk on water, and Lexie adores you, so...
Daniel: [Chuckling] Yeah. Well, what about you?
Chelsea: Do you have to ask?
Daniel: Will you do me a favor? Tell your dad and Hope that I said goodbye. I'm sorry I missed them. Thanks. Thanks.
E.J.: Um, darling, uh, you mind if I say something?
E.J.: Um... Mr. Burke, sorry. I'm a little, uh, nervous. My life completely changed the moment that I met Samantha. I mean, if -- if you were to tell me two years ago that I would be a husband, a father, to a Brady, I mean, you know -- I'm not really used to doing this. I mean, I'm normally the guy who sits on that side of the desk and I have the file and I make the decisions. So it seems a little strange being here. But I just want you to know something -- that this is not about a Visa. I mean, I love America. It's a great country. It's been very good to me. But...for me, this is -- this is about my family. This is about my wife. This is about my son. And sitting here... looking at maybe all of this just going... I'm not asking you -- I'm begging you -- please... give me my family... 'cause I don't have any other... and I need this one. Please.
Burke: Thank you.
Sami: Uh, when do you think you'll have your decision?
Burke: I'll review my notes and make my recommendation. Good day.
E.J.: Thank you.
E.J.: [Exhales raggedly]
Sami: You did great... E.J.
E.J.: Thanks. You did great.
Roman: Okay, Mr. Burke. If you're finished, I'll walk out with you.
Burke: Thank you.
Sami: Oh, Mom. [Sighs]
Marlena: Well? How did that go? Do you feel confident?
E.J.: I don't know.
Sami: He gave us absolutely no indication whatsoever.
Nicole: Well, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
Sami: What did you say to him?
Nicole: Sami, I genuinely tried to help you, but you tried to attack me. It sure as hell didn't leave a good impression on dear old Mr. Burke. You really are your own worst enemy. Toodles.
Sami: What if she's right?
E.J.: Come here. Come on.
E.J.: Shh. Shh. Shh.
Sami: I don't know what I will do if E.J. gets deported.
John: You can always go with him.
Nicole: If you weren't so in love with Sami, maybe I'd go after you.
