Sami: Oh. Uh, uh... sorry, John. I thought you were E.J.

John: Yes, I can see how we could be easily confused.

Sami: Right. [Clears throat]

John: Am I making you uncomfortable in my current state of undress?

Sami: A little. [Chuckles nervously]

John: Is this better?

Sami: [Chuckles] Yeah. Uh, thanks. Um, was E.J. still at the gym when you left?

John: I didn't notice.

Sami: Great.

John: Do you want to talk to him?

Sami: No.

John: Then why are you looking for him?

Sami: Never mind. Forget it.

E.J.: Hey. Is Samantha here?

John: No. Why are we whispering?

E.J.: 'Cause I don't want her to know I'm home.

John: And people think I have a bizarre marriage. [Chuckles]

[Keyboard keys clacking]

Morgan: Hey, Max. Do you think your mom would mind if I put a few of this flyers up?

Max: What are they for?

Morgan: Oh, it's a recycling project for the Theta House. Collecting old batteries, cellphones -- stuff like that.

Max: Cool. Yeah. Well, give me a couple extras. I'll put them up at the Cheatin' Heart.

Morgan: Thanks.

Max: Yeah. Anything going on with your dad?

Morgan: It doesn't look good. They're still going after him.

Max: I'm sorry, Morgan.

Morgan: Yeah. Me too. Now my Mom is not talking to him, and I just feel so bad. I wish I could do something, but there's nothing I can do.

Max: Well, just be there for him, you know? Let him know that you love him no matter what happens. Come here.

Kayla: Where is everybody? What did you do with them?

Angelo: [Exhales deeply] Easy, sweetheart.

Kayla: Are they okay?

Angelo: Trust me. They're being well taken care of.

Kayla: What does that mean? What have you done with them?

Angelo: You know what? You ask an awful lot of questions.

Kayla: I need to know if they're all right.

Angelo: They're still alive, if that's what you're asking. Look, your friend's being taken care of. We have people that can handle a gunshot wound. So let's just focus on you, shall we? Now, we have a cozy, little room set up just for you. Mikey.

Kayla: No.

Angelo: I'm sorry. What'd you say?

Kayla: I want to talk to Ava -- alone.

Angelo: Look, you know, I don't like to use force, especially with ladies. But if you push me...

Kayla: You're not gonna hurt me. I'm carrying a baby -- the baby that Ava wants. Now, are you gonna let me see her or not?

John: So, how... was your... your vacation?

Marlena: It was nice. I got lucky with the Colorado weather.

John: Well, that's good. So, how about us? Where do we stand?

Marlena: You get right to it, don't you?

John: Well, that is why you went on this trip, right -- to figure things out?

Marlena: It is. It was. I-I did. I -- I thought a lot, did a lot of soul-searching. And I -- I realized that my only option is to accept you as you are.

John: Well, then, all of our problems are solved. We need to celebrate.

Marlena: Don't --

John: I'm sure we have some champagne here somewhere.

Marlena: Don't misunderstand. I-I don't mean that I'm giving up on the old John. I'll -- I'll never give up on that John.

John: You're going to model this for me, aren't you?

Marlena: Give it to me.

John: Aren't you?

Marlena: Give it to me.

Sami: Mom! Mom.

E.J.: Hey, Marlena. Welcome home.

Stephanie: Hey, guys. What's going on?

Max: Hi. Uh, I thought you had class.

Stephanie: Oh, it was canceled. I thought I was gonna cover this neighborhood.

Morgan: Oh, yeah. I was just returning a movie down the street. I figured I'd save you the trip.

Stephanie: Thank you. That was really sweet. I could probably take it from here.

Max: Can you give us a minute, please?

Morgan: Sure.

Max: Thanks. [Chuckles nervously]

Stephanie: Morgan looks really cute today.

Max: Steph --

Stephanie: Did she change her hair? No, it's probably a new outfit.

Max: Stephanie.

Stephanie: Guys really, really like that look.

Max: Will you stop it?

Stephanie: Stop what?

Max: The hug was completely innocent.

Stephanie: What hug? I didn't even notice.

Max: Come on. She's worried about her family. We're friends. Sometimes friends hug.

Stephanie: Well, I'm worried about my dad, too -- and my Mom.

Max: Did something happen?

Stephanie: Nothing's happened. I haven't heard from them. No one's heard from them, and I'm starting to freak out.

Kayla: What are you looking at?

Ava: Angelo said you wanted to talk.

Kayla: That's right. Privately.

Angelo: Unh-unh. Not gonna happen.

Ava: It's okay.

Angelo: Ava...

Ava: I said it's okay.

Angelo: We'll be right outside the door. You two ladies play nice.

Ava: Oh. Always.

Angelo: Let's go.

Ava: What do you want? Patch is waiting for me.

Kayla: That's what I want to talk to you about.

Ava: What are you gonna say, huh? That he never loved me? That all the time we spent together meant nothing to him?

Kayla: He wasn't himself back then.

Ava: Well, maybe he's not himself now. Did you ever think of that? Because the man that I fell in love with -- he had an edge. He wasn't afraid of anything.

Kayla: Well, that man isn't coming back. And I think deep down you know that.

Ava: Don't say that. Don't say that. He's coming back.

Kayla: You need to be realistic, Ava.

Ava: You know what? Maybe you're the one who needs to be realistic. Do you ever think about that? I know it's got to be hard for you because your husband's in love with another woman, but deal with it.

Kayla: What are those pills you're taking?

Sami: It looks like you did some shopping.

Marlena: Get over here and give me a hug.

Sami: I missed you, Mom.

Marlena: Wait till you see what I brought for the twins.

Sami: Let me help you unpack.

Marlena: There was the cutest little shop in Vail.

John: Rolf! Help with the bags.

Marlena: And there's also a website.

John: And work on your accent. I don't notice much improvement.

Dr. Rolf: I'm not so sure I like this monster you've created, Stefano. Hmm.

Max: All right. Apple pie a la mode with extra caramel sauce.

Guy: Hey, boss.

Angelo: Are you still with the Johnson girl?

Guy: I got her in my sights right now.

Angelo: Good. You stay on it. We just may need her for leverage.

Guy: Got it.

Morgan: So, when we got to the restaurant, they told Mark -- he's the guy who's documenting everything with me -- that he was gonna have to turn off his video camera. They said it was gonna distract the customers.

Max: Oh, where was this at?

Morgan: Um, Penthouse Grill.

Max: Oh.

Morgan: So, when I explained to the manager what we were doing and that it would be good advertising for the restaurant, they were fully on board, even sent over a complimentary bottle of champagne.

Max: I guess you have quite the hookup. I don't suppose Tony needs another intern.

Morgan: Oh, honey, I think you're doing okay with all the jobs you got right now.

Max: [Chuckling] Yeah.

Stephanie: Excuse me.

Max: Hey, where you going?

Stephanie: I think I left my cellphone in the car.

Morgan: Oh, you can use mine.

Stephanie: I need to see if I have messages about my parents.

Kayla: May I see those pills?

Ava: No.

Kayla: I'm a doctor, Ava. Maybe I can help you.

Ava: Oh, right. You're a doctor. Good for you. You want to see my pills? [Whistles] Fine.

Kayla: Where did you get these?

Ava: A vending machine.

Kayla: Who prescribed them?

Ava: We're done here.

Kayla: Wait, Ava. I'm only asking because I want you to get better.

Ava: You don't give a damn about me.

Kayla: That's not true. I care about you very much.

Ava: And why should I believe any of that?

Kayla: I have a lot at stake. I'm carrying the baby that you want. I need to make sure that you're healthy enough to take care of it.

Ava: Look, I'll be a good mother. I promise you. I swear that I will.

Kayla: I believe you. That's why I want us to talk. Tell me about the drugs. Please. I might be able to help you.

Max: You find your cellphone?

Stephanie: Yes. No messages.

Max: Hmm.

Stephanie: Who's Morgan talking to?

Max: Uh, don't know. Don't know him. So, you feeling better now?

Stephanie: About what?

Max: Come on. As soon as Morgan's hand touched mine, you bailed. I think you're a little jealous.

Stephanie: I am not. Okay. Fine. I am jealous. She's your ex-girlfriend. I just don't think she should be so touchy-feely.

Max: Well, I think you and I both know that's just how Morgan is. It's that whole southern-charm thing. Look, she's doing it right now.

Stephanie: [Sighs] You must be really annoyed with me.

Max: For what?

Stephanie: For acting so possessive.

Max: I don't know. I kind of think it's a little sexy.

Stephanie: Really?

Max: Mm-hmm. I mean, two hot chicks fighting over you. I'm just saying, you know, it could be fun, like, you know, you two like pulling hair and mud wrestling and winner takes all.

Stephanie: Yeah, and then you woke up.

Max: Mm.

Stephanie: [Inhales, exhales deeply] I guess I should apologize to Morgan.

Max: Yeah.

Stephanie: [Clears throat]

Morgan: Steph, hi. This is Joel. He's from the health club.

Stephanie: Hi. Very nice to meet you.

Joel: You too. So, uh, I'll see you tomorrow, then.

Morgan: Maybe you will.

Joel: Good.

Morgan: Bye.

Joel: Bye.

Stephanie: He's cute.

Morgan: I know. He gave me his phone number, too. So, what's going on?

Stephanie: I just -- I need to talk to you for a minute.

Morgan: Is this about Max?

Stephanie: Yes.

Morgan: Look, honey, I'm sorry if I did anything to upset you.

Stephanie: You're sorry? I thought I was the one who was supposed to apologize.

Morgan: What on earth for?

Stephanie: For acting like a child earlier. I mean, I walked in, and I saw you two hugging, and I guess I just read a little too much into it.

Morgan: Honey, there is nothing going on with Max and I, okay? You got to trust him.

Stephanie: Oh, I do.

Morgan: And you love him, right?

Stephanie: [Exhales sharply]

Morgan: Have you told him that yet?

Stephanie: I have tried a million times, but those words just haven't come out of my mouth yet.

Morgan: Well, maybe it's about time they do.

Stefano: [Sighs] Hmm. A man's entire life -- everything he knew, everything he remembered -- has been extracted from his brain and placed on this single, little disc. [Chuckles] It's incredible. Huh? Incredible.

Kayla: I want you to get better, Ava, and not just because of the baby but because this is no way to live your life -- locked in your room, held like a prisoner. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I would really like to help you, but I can't do that if you don't help me. So, what do you say?

Ava: Why do you think you can help me?

Kayla: Why wouldn't I?

Ava: Well, I've seen... probably half the doctors in this state. They haven't been able to do a damn thing. So why do you think you could? Hmm? You been a shrink?

Kayla: No. But I have seen and dealt with a lot of people in a similar situation.

Ava: You mean crazy people?

Kayla: I don't think you're crazy.

Ava: [Chuckles] Yeah, right.

Kayla: I don't. Why are you fighting it? Come on.

Ava: Just stop. You're -- you're not gonna understand. You're not gonna get it. No one ever does.

Kayla: You tried to kill yourself, didn't you?

Marlena: Oh, Rolf, I was -- what were you doing?

Dr. Rolf: Uh...

Max: So, how'd it go with Morgan?

Stephanie: We are cool now.

Max: Good.

Stephanie: Um, can we talk for a minute? It's kind of important.

Max: Okay. Is this about your folks? I mean, I know you can't stop worrying about them.

Stephanie: I can't, but, no, it's not about them. It's, um... it's about you and me.

Max: Oh.

Stephanie: Me and you, um, and how I feel about you. Are these new glasses? I really like them.

Max: Yeah, they're awesome. They're great. Now, you were saying...

Stephanie: Forget it. We can talk about it another time, when you're not working.

Max: Steph --

Stephanie: I'm serious. You have customers, drink orders.

Max: And you want to say this personal thing in private?

Stephanie: Yes.

Max: Hmm. Okay. Give me two minutes.

Stephanie: For what?

Max: Just don't go anywhere.

Morgan: Where's he going?

Stephanie: I don't know.

Morgan: Well, did you tell him?

Stephanie: I can't. Not here. I'm gonna wait until it's just the two of us. What's going on?

Max: I'm sorry, folks. We're having some problems with the power and we're gonna need to shut down for a little while. So, um, I'm sorry, and, look, lunch is on us, and, uh, tip your server -- that'd be me. So [Clears throat] Sorry. I'm really sorry. Thank you, guys. Thank you. Sorry. [Clears throat]

Stephanie: Do we need to call an electrician?

Morgan: Do you think the power's out in the entire neighborhood?

Max: Hold that thought.

Stephanie: You did this.

Max: You said you wanted privacy.

Morgan: Okay. Well, that's my cue to leave.

Max: Bye. So, what was this important thing you wanted to tell me?

Kayla: When did you try to kill yourself?

Ava: Right after Patch left. Go ahead. Say it. Say it. "Too bad it didn't work." I wish it had. You know that I've been on suicide watch ever since... 'cause I'm high-risk.

Kayla: Ava, those doctors that treated you -- what was their diagnosis?

Ava: Oh, they said I've got something called -- what was it? -- Brief psychotic disorder.

Kayla: I know exactly what that is.

Ava: Oh, come on. It doesn't even sound like a real disease.

Kayla: No, it's very real. It's an illness that's triggered by a traumatic event. In your case, this incident with Steve. But that happened a long time ago, Ava.

Ava: Yeah, it's not so brief, huh?

Kayla: Well, you may have had some of the symptoms, but they shouldn't have lasted for more than a month.

Ava: So I've been misdiagnosed, huh?

Kayla: Maybe not.

Stephanie: I've been doing a lot of thinking these past few days, not knowing where my parents are and worrying about them, and it just made me realize that you should stick close to the people you care about, because you never know when something bad might happen.

Max: Nothing bad's gonna happen to your mom or your dad.

Stephanie: Let me finish. I've wanted to tell you how I feel about you for a really long time, and I haven't because I was scared that I was gonna scare you away and then I would get scared, and I keep putting it off, and I can't do it anymore.

Max: So don't.

Stephanie: Okay. I love you, Max.

Marlena: Rolf... what were you doing?

Dr. Rolf: Uh, the painting was a little crooked, hmm?

Marlena: Yeah. Like the subject, hmm?

Dr. Rolf: That's good. That's very good. You have a wicked sense of humor, Dr. Evans -- wicked, yes.

Sami: Mom, oh, everything you bought is so fantastic. And that little petticoat dress for Allie -- oh, my God. I love it.

Marlena: I thought it might be perfect for Mother's Day.

Sami: Definitely. So, um, can we talk about, uh, the other things you bought?

Marlena: Sure. What other things?

Sami: Mom... you know what I'm talking about.

Marlena: Oh, oh, oh. You mean the negligee. You know what? I liked it, and it was on sale.

Sami: Mom, you are so busted.

Marlena: [Scoffs] I don't want to talk about this right now.

Sami: Mom, come on. You're not thinking what I think you are?

Marlena: I said not now, okay?

Sami: Mom, I just -- John isn't who he used to be, and I don't want to see you get hurt.

Marlena: Honey, I can take care of myself.

Sami: Mom, I don't --

Marlena: I'll be all right. Don't worry.

Sami: Listen. Just promise me that you'll be careful.

Marlena: All right. I promise I'll be careful.

Sami: Because I hate to tell you this, but men are pigs -- all of them.

Marlena: Oh. Are you talking about E.J. now?

Sami: Especially him. I hate him.

Marlena: Honey, what happened?

Sami: Well, I guess you heard. Nicole is back. Well, E.J. and I were having dinner at Chez Rouge, and who should come breezing in?

Marlena: Nicole?

Sami: Exactly. And, of course, she just wanted to annoy me every way she could. But, in the end, she ended up asking E.J. to represent her.

Marlena: Why?

Sami: I guess L.A. didn't work out so well. So now she's back, and she wants to divorce Victor and take him for every penny she can get out of him. Can you believe it?

Marlena: Knowing Nicole, not a lot would surprise me.

Sami: Yeah. Well, here's the best part. I begged E.J. not to take the case. I explained to him about how Nicole treated Eric, what she did to Lucas. But did he listen to me?

Marlena: Honey, he's probably glad to have the work.

Sami: It's not about that. It's about Nicole. I mean, why does it have to be her? [Sighs]

Marlena: Oh, honey, I'm so sorry.

Sami: You know, that's the bottom line. There is just no way I'm going to let Nicole sink her teeth into E.J.

Marlena: You know, it sounds to me like you might be having some feelings for E.J.

Kayla: Ava, if you were really misdiagnosed, those pills might be causing more harm than good.

Ava: Oh. You think that someone's deliberately trying to hurt me?

Kayla: I'm just saying that maybe you should get a second opinion.

Ava: My shrink was handpicked by my Father.

Kayla: Hmm.

Ava: Daddy would not hire a quack, if that's what you're implying. He takes very good care of me.

Kayla: So it's your psychiatrist who prescribed the pills?

Ava: [Sighs] Maybe.

Kayla: How often do you take them?

Ava: You certainly are inquisitive, aren't you?

Kayla: I'm just trying to help.

Ava: Well, maybe I don't want your help.

Kayla: Why don't you tell me how they make you feel -- relaxed, agitated?

Ava: They relax me! Stop with your damn questions!

Sami: The only feeling I have for E.J. is anger.

Marlena: You're sure it's nothing more?

Sami: Like what?

Marlena: Hmm. I don't know. E.J. and Nicole will be spending a lot of time together coming up.

Sami: Okay, wait a second. Don't even start to say that I might be jealous, okay? I'm sick of everyone saying that.

Marlena: Everybody? Like who?

Sami: Well, you and -- and John and E.J. himself. And I'm just tired of hearing it.

Marlena: All right. You're not jealous.

Sami: So, why are you looking at me like that?

Marlena: Well, I think you care for E.J., and if that weren't true, you wouldn't be having this little upset.

Sami: Of course I care about him. He's Johnny's father. And bottom line -- I don't want Nicole anywhere near my children.

Marlena: I understand that. I do think you should be honest about your own feelings, though.

Sami: God, Mom, where's this coming from? I thought you hated E.J.

Marlena: A part of me will always hate E.J. for what he did to you -- the way he hurt you. But I firmly believe that people can change, and I think he's trying. I mean, it's not 180 degrees, but he's coming along.

Sami: So all this is because he helped you find John?

Marlena: Sami, I don't think you fully understand what a big deal that was. E.J. sacrificed his relationship with his father in order to help us. That's huge. And John is alive today. If that hadn't happened -- if E.J. hadn't helped us -- John wouldn't be here. So I will always be grateful to him, which is why I would like to give E.J. the benefit of the doubt.

Sami: And I can understand that, Mom. I just can't agree with it.

E.J.: Maybe you should listen to your mother, Samantha.

Ava: I know what you're doing here. You're gonna take everything that I tell you, you're gonna go straight to Patch, and you're gonna turn him against me.

Kayla: Steve wants you to get better.

Ava: He does?

Kayla: Mm-hmm. As a matter of fact, he asked if I could maybe help you. And that's what I'm trying to do, but you got to help me and tell me about those pills. How often are you taking them?

Ava: I don't know. Sometimes one a day. Sometimes five or six. Why?

Kayla: Because I think whoever's giving them to you -- maybe they don't exactly have your best interests at heart.

Ava: Really? You think that someone's trying to hurt me deliberately?

Kayla: Well, it's just unusual. These pills aren't relaxing you. They're making you agitated.

Ava: Maybe it's not the pills. Maybe it's you.

Sami: You were eavesdropping?

E.J.: I was not eavesdropping.

Sami: How long were you standing there?

E.J.: I was not standing there. I happened to be walking from point "A" to point "B." Maybe you'd like it if I wore a little bell around my neck so you can hear me coming.

Sami: This is exactly what I'm talking about. This is what I have to put up with from him.

John: Can you keep it down? I'm trying to work.

E.J.: So, I take it you're still a little bit upset about Nicole.

Sami: Gee, what made you think that?

E.J.: You know, if anybody has a reason to be angry, it's her, not you.

Sami: How could you even say that to me?

E.J.: You're lucky she didn't press assault charges.

Sami: Well, I feel confident that if she had, you would be representing her against me, wouldn't you?

Marlena: What's going on? Did I miss something here?

E.J.: You did. Let me fill you in. Slugger here this morning decided to see if she could rearrange Nicole's face.

Marlena: Sami!

Sami: Well, she had it coming.

John: Silence! One more sound out of any of you -- and I mean any of you -- [Baby crying in distance]

Sami: [Clears throat] Um, that's Johnny. [Telephone rings]

Marlena: I'll take care of it.

Sami: I just want to get away from E.J.

E.J.: Hello? Mr. Burke. Yeah, this is E.J. DiMera.

Sami: Mr. Burke -- that's the immigration guy we're dealing with.

E.J.: Absolutely. We'll be there.

Marlena: Sami, you can't walk away from your problems.

E.J.: Got it. Okay. Thank you.

Ava: Angelo! You're lucky that you're pregnant, lady. Hey! Angelo! Hey! Get her out of here.

Kayla: Ava, think about what I said.

Ava: Shut up. What are you waiting for? Go.

Mikey: Come on, lady. Let's go.

Ava: Don't hurt her. She's carrying my baby.

Mikey: Come on.

Angelo: Lock her up.

Mikey: Yes, sir.

Angelo: This is Patch's wife, huh?

Ava: Whatever. How is my Patch?

Angelo: Well, he's out cold, but he should be getting up pretty soon.

Ava: Good. We need to spend some time together -- up close and personal.

Stephanie: See? I totally freaked you out. I knew I shouldn't have said anything.

Max: No, no. No. I'm just --

Stephanie: Why are you being so weird?

Max: You caught me off guard. I'm sorry. Look, I'm sorry, okay?

Stephanie: This just -- this isn't how I thought it would go.

Max: You -- you thought about how this would go?

Stephanie: Only for the last six months.

Max: Really?

Stephanie: And now I just admitted it. Can we just rewind this conversation?

Max: No. No. I want to hear all the details. I want to hear how you thought this would go.

Stephanie: You really want to know?

Max: Yeah.

Stephanie: Okay. Well, uh, I guess I always thought we'd be someplace romantic, like the beach... at sunset. We'd have a blanket spread out, some wine and cheese, maybe a little music. I would tell you that I love you... and then you would take me into your arms and give me the most amazing kiss. And then... you would look into my eyes... brush the hair behind my ears, like you sometimes do. And then you'd say it. You'd say that you love me, too.

Max: Okay. [Chuckles] Um, I know this isn't exactly the beach. [Clears throat] But... we do have some wine. And, uh, we have some music. [Slow, romantic music plays] And, uh... [Chuckles nervously] I guess there's one more thing that I have to say. Um... Stephanie Johnson, I -- I know it's not how you pictured it -- not by a long shot -- but, um... [Chuckles] I love you. I do.

I've waited forever, and time's flying by holding you, there's a knowing there's nothing to fear I am so glad I'm right here baby, I'm here to keep you safe and warm in the middle of the storm, I will promise to hold you I'm here rest your head on my shoulder when the night seems much colder... I'm -- I'm right here

Chelsea: Don't worry about me. I'm in excellent hands.

Philip: There was a time not long ago when I respected you.

John: And now you're going to respect me in a whole new way.

Ava: Well, it's about time, sleepyhead. Welcome back to the good old days.
