Lexie: Dr. Jonas... what happened?
Daniel: She lost consciousness at home. Temp's 101.3.
Lexie: Has she been over-exerting herself?
Kate: No. We were at the pub for breakfast this morning. She wasn't doing cartwheels.
Lexie: Hmm. What's her B.P.?
Lexie: It has to be a complication from the surgery.
Daniel: I agree.
Kate: What kind of complication? Okay, doc, I need to see you for a moment. I think you need to start talking -- now.
E.J.: Samantha? Hey. Wait until you see the new office Mickey has for me. As soon as we install that credenza, I'm gonna be ready for anything he throws at me.
Sami: Good for you.
E.J.: Oh, listen, I had an idea. I thought we could go down to some of those secondhand stores this afternoon. You have some pretty good deals in there. Hey! And, you, young man -- I need a picture of you for my desk, please. Are you guys going out?
Sami: What does it look like? Yes, we're going to the park.
E.J.: Oh, great. Let me get a sweater. I'll come with you.
Sami: Actually, um, don't bother. You're not coming with us.
Ava: You did this to me. You -- you ought to get locked up!
Bo: Okay. Hold on.
Angelo: Back off. I said, "back off." George.
Ava: You left me. You left me on our wedding day, and you didn't come back! You didn't say goodbye -- nothing!
Kayla: That is enough!
Ava: Shut up! Shut up!
Steve: Wait. Don't worry. Don't worry.
Ava: I loved you. I loved you. We were gonna have kids together, a house, everything, and then you ruined it! You ruined my family!
Steve: It wasn't intentional, baby.
Ava: Say you're sorry. Say you're sorry. Go ahead and say it. Let me hear it.
Steve: I am sorry.
Ava: Say it like you mean it!
Steve: I'm sorry, baby. Please believe me.
Ava: [Chuckles] I will never, ever, ever forgive you. [Sobbing] You ruined my...
Angelo: Shh! Shh!
Bo: Hey. If we don't get out of here soon, bad things are gonna happen.
E.J.: What do you mean? It's gonna be a beautiful day. I will go get some things together. You grab the sunscreen.
Sami: E.J., you're not listening to me. You're not coming with us.
E.J.: What do you mean I'm not coming with you? Do you remember what happened last time you took them to the park on your own? Johnny wouldn't stop crying, and Allie got a rash.
Sami: Are you implying that I can't take care of my children by myself?
E.J.: No, that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying it's a lot easier if we do this together.
Sami: I'll be fine. I have taken care of them on my own a million times.
E.J.: I have no doubt that you'll be fine, but I thought we had agreed that we were going to try and spend more time together as a family.
Sami: Where is Allie's hat? I was just holding it.
E.J.: I don't know. It's probably over here where you left it. This hat?
E.J.: Look, Samantha, I would -- I'd really like to come. Please?
Sami: I don't think it's a very good idea. What about your client? What if she needs you? You should be here waiting for her call.
E.J.: Do not tell me that this is about Nicole.
Sami: Are you kidding? I specifically asked you not to take the case. I don't want you working with her.
E.J.: I thought that we had this conversation last night.
Sami: I'm so surprised you remember, because obviously it wasn't sinking in, or you thought, what, I was gonna wake up this morning and have some complete change of heart?
E.J.: No. I thought you might, if given a little time, come to realize the folly of some of your actions.
Sami: My actions?
E.J.: Your actions. Do you remember? Your behavior was so disgusting, you almost got us kicked out of Chez Rouge.
Sami: Oh, spare me, okay? Maggie, first of all, was on my side, and you're acting like Nicole was an innocent victim.
E.J.: You were both acting like a couple of babies.
Sami: And why am I the one getting the lecture?
E.J.: Because you're my wife.
Sami: Be very careful how you use that word -- only in the presence of a government employee.
E.J.: All right. Okay. Look. I'm sorry. Samantha, please. Can we just forget about last night?
Sami: Are you kidding? I would love to. So, does that mean you're gonna call Nicole and let her know you're dropping her as a client?
Daniel: All right, I'm gonna need a CBC with diff, chem-7, amylase, and lipase. Also a blood culture. Oh, and call radiology. I want a C.T. of her abdomen.
Nurse: Yes, doctor.
Daniel: And make her NPO.
Kate: What's wrong with her?
Daniel: I told you. We won't know until we run some tests.
Kate: Okay, but you're the specialist. You're supposed to have an idea, right?
Daniel: I don't like to speculate, and I can't diagnose accurately unless I have all the facts.
Kate: How long is that gonna take?
Daniel: We'll be done with this when we're done with this. Why don't you go grab some coffee right there in the lounge?
Kate: Well, if she's just having tests, I think I should be able to stay.
Lexie: Kate, please. We will let you know as soon as we know anything.
Chelsea: Don't be fighting with them, Grandma.
Kate: Oh, sweetheart.
Chelsea: Dr. Jonas will take good care of me, right?
Daniel: There. See that? Chelsea's on board.
Nick: Hey. Morgan called. She said Chelsea passed out. What's going on?
Kate: They think that, supposedly, she's had a complication from the operation, but I think there's something that Dr. Jonas knows that he's just not letting on.
Nick: You...are not supposed to be here right now. We're supposed to have our John Hughes movie marathon today.
Chelsea: I'm sorry.
Daniel: Okay, people. Everyone who doesn't have a medical degree needs to clear out. Chelsea needs to rest.
Chelsea: I guess "Ferris Bueller" will have to wait, huh?
Nick: Maybe tomorrow. Okay? [Door opens, closes]
Bo: How you holding up, Fancy Face?
Hope: I'm great.
Bo: Sit down over here.
Ava: Hey. What do you think of him now, huh? Your husband -- he's not as great as you thought he was.
Kayla: I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt you.
Ava: You're defending him? You're defending him after everything that I just told you. My God, he has you snowed.
Bo: Come on. I've known Steve most of my life.
Hope: Bo. I know you're hurting.
Hope: But we can help.
Ava: Oh. You want to help me?
Hope: If you'll let us, yes.
Ava: Come on. Look at you guys. Look at the way you look at me. You think I'm crazy.
Hope: No, Ava, we don't.
Kayla: You could get treatment.
Ava: "Treatment"? But I've been treated. I have been locked up in a padded cell. I have been pumped full of drugs. They really took great care of me. This is your fault. God, I hate you. I hate all of you!
Sami: Do it, E.J. Call her. Tell her to get herself a new lawyer.
E.J.: I will absolutely not do that, Samantha. It would be completely unprofessional.
Sami: Well, then I guess it's clear where your priorities lay.
E.J.: Now, you listen to me. Hey. Don't question my priorities. My priorities are to you and those children. That's why I took this job in the first place. I don't have any other income, Samantha.
Sami: A job, yes. Working for the devil, no.
E.J.: Why do you insist on doing this? I mean, it's ridiculous. This whole thing about exaggerating the situation with Nicole is getting really old.
Sami: You're the one who's underestimating her. Maybe you just can't help yourself. With all that DiMera arrogance, you think you're invincible. Why don't you ask Victor how he felt when she almost succeeded in murdering him?
E.J.: What would you like me to do? Shall I get some bodyguards?
Sami: This isn't a joke to me. I'm talking about the safety of my children.
E.J.: She's not gonna come anywhere near your children.
Sami: Do you not know her at all? You're her lawyer. She's gonna find a way to be around you, be around here, if for no other reason just to irritate me.
E.J.: Samantha [Sighs] It's a simple divorce. It's going to take a few weeks.
Sami: Don't be naive, E.J. She's gonna find a way to drag it out for as long as she wants.
E.J.: Great. I bill her by the hour, okay? Now, can we please just put this behind us? Let's just go and take the kids out, shall we?
Sami: No. No. Not until you make that call.
E.J.: Samantha, I'm not going to do it.
Sami: E.J., until you drop Nicole, you're not going to the park or anywhere with your son.
Daniel: How you doing? Huh? Let's try and bring this fever down. Give her 500 milligrams of acetaminophen.
Chelsea: Everybody's gone. You can tell me the truth now.
Daniel: Just try and rest, okay?
Lexie: He's right, Chelsea. You need to rest.
Chelsea: What's wrong with me?
Daniel: Well, it's, uh, too early to tell, okay?
Chelsea: Why do you guys keep giving each other looks?
Kate: Oh, yeah. Thanks. Thank you.
Nick: Did you get ahold of Billie?
Kate: Um, no, I didn't. I left a message on her voicemail. I just wish that she was here. Chelsea really needs her mother right now.
Nick: She's got you. The next best thing, right?
Kate: Yeah. Right.
Nick: I think Bo's probably on his way, as well. I tried calling him, but I couldn't get through to his cellphone.
Kate: I know. I tried calling him. I called him at home. There was no answer, which I thought was weird since he was just released from the hospital. I even called Caroline. She hasn't talked to him since yesterday. I wonder where he is.
Ava: You. You are the most handsome man I have...ever seen. I couldn't wait to say "I do" and spend the rest of our lives together. "You may kiss the bride." [Giggles] Do you know we were gonna spend our honeymoon in Vegas? Do you remember that? We were gonna stay in a tacky, little motel, and we were gonna order room service every night and every morning, and then... we'd just stay in bed... all day. Do you hear that? [Exhales sharply] Do you hear that? They're -- they're playing our song -- the music. Let's dance. Let's dance. Mm. Mm. Who invited you? Who invited you here? This is my day -- my day!
Steve: This is your day, baby.
Ava: No. No. You married her. She's the one. You destroyed my life!
Kayla: What about the lives that you destroyed?!
Kayla: What about the pilots? What about my Pop?
Ava: The plane wasn't supposed to crash.
Kayla: It did, and I hold you personally responsible.
Ava: I'm sorry. I am sorry about your pop.
Kayla: You're sorry? You're sorry by holding us all hostage here?
Ava: None of this would have happened if you hadn't taken my man.
Steve: This isn't Kayla's fault, Ava. It's not Kayla's fault.
Ava: She tricked me. [Laughs] You've all -- you all tricked me. Thought you could pull a fast one on the crazy lady, right? Oh, the joke's on you guys. Hey, George. You guys, you all miss your pop so much, huh? Why don't I just arrange a little reunion in hell? I want them dead.
Bo: Easy, now.
Ava: Do it.
Kayla: Ava! Ava, please!
Steve: Wait. Wait.
Kayla: Please listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen. I know you have a heart.
Ava: [Chuckling] No, I do not.
Kayla: No, no, no, no. No. You're a good person. You're a good person. You know, you've had some bad knocks. But you wouldn't kill an innocent baby. You wouldn't. Listen. Ava -- Ava, look at me. Do -- do you feel the baby kick? Do you feel that? Do you feel the baby? You tell George -- you tell George to put the gun down. Tell him to put it down.
E.J.: How dare you. How dare you...blackmail me with my own son.
Sami: He's my son, too, and I offered you a choice. What you do with it is your problem.
E.J.: Oh, you gave me a choice? That rings a bell, eh? I guess you showed me, Samantha. You know what you could do just to really rub it in, to give yourself the upper hand? Why don't you say that I hit Johnny? I mean, you'd do the same thing to me that you did to Lucas.
Sami: I have to remember to thank Nicole for telling you that story.
E.J.: Don't. To be honest with you, when she told me, I wasn't that surprised.
Sami: E.J., are you daring me to play dirty right now? Because I am fine with that.
E.J.: No. No. No. All right, no, okay? Can we just please stop this stupid, petty fighting?
Sami: Because let's not forget -- we do have that appointment with the immigration officer coming up, and I have so much I would like to tell him.
E.J.: Samantha, you're not going to do that.
Sami: Want to bet?
E.J.: Yes. I know that you don't want both of your children growing up without a father.
Sami: Then you are in for one hell of a surprise, E.J.
E.J.: All right. I'm thinking, strangely enough, that maybe for once...Uncle John was right.
Sami: About what?
E.J.: About the real reason that you don't want me working with Nicole.
Sami: I have told you the real reason 100 times. She's a money-grubbing, backstabbing bitch.
E.J.: You're jealous. [Chuckles] You're jealous. [Laughs]
Daniel: I wish all my patients were as good as you.
Daniel: No, I mean it. You'd be surprised how many people are afraid of a little pinprick. Even a grown man.
Daniel: Seriously. Yeah. There was this one guy that I was treating when I was doing my training, and he, uh -- well, never mind.
Chelsea: You can't do that. It's against the rules. You have to finish.
Daniel: I really, really shouldn't. You know, doctor/patient confidentiality.
Chelsea: Come on. It's me. Please?
Daniel: Okay. All right. But it doesn't leave this room.
Chelsea: I swear.
Daniel: Well, there was, um, there was this guy. He was a football player, right? Just huge. Like, oh, 6'4", 250. Just rock solid. He, uh, he came into the office there to get his physical. We took his temperature, blood pressure, and everything was cool. It was all good. But then we looked at his records, and we realized that this guy hasn't had a tetanus shot in like 15 years.
Daniel: "Uh-oh" is right. But this guy -- he was sweating. His heart was thumping. He was as white as a sheet. He was trying to act all macho, like it was no big deal. He's a football player, remember?
Chelsea: I remember. So, what happened?
Daniel: Well... the first thing that we always do is we clean the injection site with alcohol. And I kid you not -- the second that cotton ball hit his skin, it was lights out.
Chelsea: He fainted?
Chelsea: Before you even gave him the shot?
Daniel: Yeah. And this guy -- he could hold his own with anybody out there on the field. But you show him a little needle, and [Clicks tongue] Nighty-night.
Chelsea: Well, he better pray that he never has to get an I.V.
Daniel: Yeah. Well, that would be the day that I call in sick.
Chelsea: I'm scared. [Door opens]
Nurse: Doctor, we have some stat results.
Daniel: [Clears throat] Thank you. Put a rush on the rest of these tests.
Nurse: I'll call the lab.
Chelsea: Dr. Jonas... what? It's not good, is it?
Kayla: This baby didn't do anything to you. You're angry. I understand that. I'm sorry. We're all sorry for what happened to you.
Hope: She's right. We are.
Ava: He just kicked. He just kicked. Did you feel that?
Kayla: It's amazing, isn't it?
Steve: Talk to me. Come here.
Steve: Listen, man. We got to do something. We got to help Ava. Now, if we all die, she's responsible. The guilt will eat her alive.
Angelo: Look, you lied to her. As far as I'm concerned, this is the most sane thing she's done in a long time.
Steve: Oh, really? You want to see your cousin spend the rest of her life behind bars? Is that what you want?
Angelo: No. Didn't you ever hear of temporary insanity?
Steve: Don't you want to protect her?
Angelo: What do you think I'm doing?
Steve: I don't think you are. Now I think there's still a chance for her. I think you believe that, too. She's a good girl. She's not like her old man. She's not a cold-blooded killer.
Angelo: Put the gun down.
Ava: What -- what are you doing?
Angelo: Look, I think we ought to rethink this.
Ava: What are you talking about? It's too late. We -- we can't turn back.
Angelo: No, no, no, no. It's not too late. Let's just discuss it, okay?
Ava: There's nothing to discuss.
Angelo: I don't want you getting hurt, all right?
Steve: Ava... we only want what's best for you.
Ava: But you were best for me, Patch. All I ever wanted was you, and now look at me. I've got nothing.
Chelsea: It's bad, right? You can tell me.
Daniel: Well, let's not go there yet, okay? Let's just wait till we get all the results.
Chelsea: Don't -- don't you think that I should at -- at least be prepared?
Daniel: You really want to know what I think? I think you need to find something else to focus on.
Chelsea: Like what?
Daniel: Oh, I don't know. Whatever rocks your world. Hmm? A funny movie, maybe? A favorite vacation? Well, I'm sure you've been a lot of places. No? Well, if you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Chelsea: Um... I'd -- I'd probably go back to New York. Or if I could go anywhere, um... Australia.
Daniel: Excellent choice. I've been there many times myself.
Chelsea: To surf, right?
Daniel: From Burley to Black Rock.
Chelsea: When was the last time that you were there?
Daniel: [Whistles] Oh, I'd say a couple years. A buddy of mine, he lives on the -- he lives on the Gold Coast, so he shows me all the local haunts. And there is nothing like waking up before sunrise and just paddling your board out. Well, without getting barreled in the green room. It is pretty gnarly.
Chelsea: Well, the waves sound awesome.
Daniel: Oh. Well, they are. And you haven't lived until you've wiped out and been washed over the falls by cow bombie, right near Margaret River. Deepwater Break.
Chelsea: Well, what other recommendations can you make for someone that doesn't really know how to hang ten?
Daniel: Well, do you like to dance? Well, Sydney has some just sweet nightlife. This might sound a little touristy, but there is this place called Neptune Island, just off the Southern Coast, where they have some intense cage-diving expeditions.
Chelsea: As in sharks?
Daniel: As in great white sharks.
Chelsea: And you've done it?
Daniel: Nose to nose with nature's fiercest.
Chelsea: Weren't you scared?
Daniel: Hell, yeah. I was freaked out of my mind. Yeah. But you should have seen it. Their teeth -- they must be like this big. Crazy.
Chelsea: Well, in that case, I think I'll pass on the experience.
Daniel: You could lounge out on the boat, just work on your tan.
Chelsea: That sounds like a vacation.
Daniel: You'll be there, Chelsea... probably sooner than you think.
Steve: How's everybody doing?
Kayla: I'm all right.
Bo: Fancy Face?
Hope: I'm good.
Steve: I'm really sorry about this, guys.
Bo: Man, if I hear you say that one more time --
Steve: What are you gonna do, tie me up?
Bo: [Chuckles] [Echoing] Hardy har. Hey, you want to make it up to us?
Steve: [Echoing] Anything, buddy.
Bo: Okay. Fine. How about you get the next round at the Cheatin''' Heart?
Bo: Yeah. So, we got ourselves a deal?
Steve: It's a deal.
Bo: [Normal voice] Besides, the four of us -- we've been in worse jams than this.
Sami: [Scoffs] You think I'm jealous of Nicole Walker? How could you even suggest that?
E.J.: Well, I mean, she's very attractive.
Sami: Oh, yeah, in comparison to a basset hound.
E.J.: A basset hound? Right. You're not jealous. No, of course. Silly.
Sami: Of her and her 12-year-old boy's body? No, actually, not jealous.
E.J.: The body of a 12-year-old boy. [Clears throat] Let me tell you something, Samantha. Just about every living, breathing man in Chez Rouge would very much disagree with that statement.
Sami: That's because she came into the restaurant practically naked, E.J.
E.J.: Oh, you mean the dress she was wearing? I didn't have a problem with it.
Sami: No, of course you didn't, because, as it turns out, you're like every other man that turns to jelly when they see a slinky blonde like her come into the room.
E.J.: Let me get this straight. So this beautiful blonde girl walks into a room, everybody gets upset, and you're not jealous?
Sami: Stop saying that.
E.J.: Of course you're not jealous. Come on, Samantha. Admit it. There's a part of you that just doesn't like the fact that I'm working with this beautiful, soon-to-be single girl.
Sami: She started off attractive and now she's beautiful, E.J.? Come on. Give me a break. What, are you already falling for her?
Chelsea: Well, it worked.
Daniel: Oh, yeah. A little exercise in distraction?
Chelsea: Yeah. The next time I'm scared, I'll just...picture myself going nose to nose with a great white.
Daniel: Not the outcome I was looking for. Oh, look at that right there. I got a smile out of you, though.
Chelsea: Yes, you did. It's pretty amazing.
Daniel: Well, you've got a lot to smile about, Chelsea.
Kayla: Stephanie's gonna be so worried.
Bo: Yeah. Chelsea, too.
Steve: Well, if they're worried, that must mean they're looking for us. It's only a matter of time.
Bo: Yeah, well, Hope doesn't have much time. They better get here quick. Hope, you hanging in there? Fancy Fa-- Hope?
Kayla: She's unconscious, Bo?
Bo: Hope! Hope, come on. Wake up. Hope, wake up. Hope, come on. Hope!
Daniel: Your heart is racing. You feeling okay? You look a little flushed.
Chelsea: I'm fine.
Daniel: Okay. I'm gonna run down to the lab, find out what's taking so long. You gonna be all right?
Daniel: Okay. All right.
Chelsea: [Sighs] You are such an idiot.
Daniel: You took my advice.
Kate: Any news?
Daniel: Not yet.
Nick: Can we see her?
Daniel: Yeah, but not for long. She needs --
Nick: To rest? We understand.
Chelsea: You guys are still here.
Kate: Yes, and I'm not going anywhere until you are 100%.
Nick: Same goes for me.
Chelsea: Don't you have class?
Nick: I cancelled it.
Nick: Chelsea, I don't want to hear it. This is where I need to be right now -- with you.
Bo: Come on. Wake up. Don't do this. Come on, Fancy Face. Wake up. Hope!
Steve: She needs help. Can't you see that? Untie her.
Kayla: I'm a doctor. Untie me.
Bo: What are you doing just standing there? Call 911.
Kayla: She's lost a lot of blood. She needs to get to the hospital. Come on, please.
Bo: Thanks, man. Just untie us -- would you do -- how is she, huh?
George: Still breathing. Nothing to worry about.
Bo: Untie her, would you?! What's the matter with you?!
George: I don't like your attitude.
Kayla: Bo! Bo!
Steve: Why'd you have to do that for?
George: Shut up. You want a piece of this, mouth?
Steve: Come on!
E.J.: No, I'm falling for her. I'm just making an observation.
Sami: Have her. I don't care. If you want Nicole, fine. Just remember -- you, um, can't have everything.
E.J.: All right. Let me...
Kate: Are you sure you're comfortable? Is there anything I could do for you?
Chelsea: I'm fine. Would you please stop asking me if I need anything?
Nick: We're just trying to help you.
Chelsea: I know that you both mean well. If you keep acting like there's something wrong with me, eventually I'm gonna believe it.
Kate: Okay. You're right.
Chelsea: Okay. So let's just act like everything is normal. Can we do that?
Kate: Yep. Yep. I can do that.
Lexie: Did you get the results?
Daniel: Uh, yeah. Yeah, I did.
Daniel: Uh... it's not good, Lexie.
Steve: Sweetness, you think Hope's gonna be all right?
Kayla: It's a clean wound. It's good. You know, less chance of infection. But she's lost a lot of blood. We need to get her to the hospital as soon as we can.
Steve: Are you listening, George? She needs a hospital. Come on. Help us out here. What am I wasting my breath for?
Angelo: What's going on?
Steve: Hope passed out. Your goon here pistol-whipped Bo.
George: Sorry, boss. He left me no choice.
Angelo: It's okay. Wait outside. Oh. Let's see. No. The pulses are strong. They're fine.
Steve: Oh, so you're an M.D. now?
Kayla: I am a doctor. Just let me go, and I'll check them out.
Steve: Ava. Ava!
Steve: My friends need help. They need a hospital.
Ava: Oh, no. If Angelo says they're okay, they're okay. Just forget about them, okay? Hey, guess what. You want to hear my news?
Ava: I've been doing a lot of thinking, and I finally made a decision. It's one that involves everyone.
Kayla: You're gonna let us go?
Ava: No. I'm actually kind of getting used to having you around. I like the company. So I'm not gonna kill you.
Steve: Well, that's good news. So untie us.
Ava: What? What is this? I tell you I'm gonna spare your life and you can't even say thank you? Where are your manners?
Steve: Thank you, Ava. Now, how long do you plan on keeping us locked up here? Days? Weeks? What?
Ava: I don't know. It's more like months. Nine months. Well, maybe not nine. How far along are you in your pregnancy?
Kayla: Why do you care?
Ava: Because you're my surrogate.
Kayla: Your what?
Ava: The baby that you're carrying is mine.
Steve: God, Ava, no. No, Ava.
Ava: Oh, and I really, really, really, really hope that it's gonna be a boy 'cause I have all these boys' names picked out.
Kayla: Do you really think I'm gonna give you my baby?
Ava: Mm-hmm. Look, I know it's gonna be difficult at first, but it's not like you don't already have a kid. So now we'll both have one.
Kayla: You're crazier than I thought.
Ava: Oh, Patch. Patch, I hope he gets most of your genes, 'cause I want him to have your smile. You have the best smile.
Steve: There is no way you're taking our baby.
Ava: What? Why don't you consider it payback, yeah, for ruining my life?
Steve: "Payback"? You can't be serious.
Ava: Oh, God. Stop complaining. That's a fair trade.
Kayla: You're never gonna get away with this.
Ava: Well, I guess we'll have to see, won't we? Oh, oh, hey. There's one itty-bitty, minor, little thing I forgot to mention to you guys. Once you have my baby, then I'm gonna decide who gets to live and who dies. Bye.
Steve: Sweetness... I'm sorry.
Kate: Is she really going to be all right?
Daniel: I'll do my damnedest to make sure.
Philip: John has ruined your father's job and reputation. If he keeps hitching his future to John, things will get worse.
