[Indistinct conversations]

John: [Sighs]

Maggie: Hello, Marlena. Oh, my, you look beautiful.

Marlena: Look, I was at a charity event, and I got a call to come over here. I don't know who called or what it was about. Do you know? [Sighs] Looky there.

Abe: Well, the good news is we have a call in to dispatch. We've got officers out there looking for Hope right now. They're her friends, Bo. They're doing this on their own time. So don't worry. We'll find her.

Bo: Thanks, Abe.

[Cellphone ringing]

Bo: Excuse me. Brady.

Steve: Bo, it's Steve. Listen up. Now, I know you're worried about Hope, but you can't bring the cops in on this thing until you talk to me. You trust me? Please?

Bo: Okay, man. I'll do that.

Abe: So, who was that?

Bo: Uh, it was Steve, you know, just telling me to stay in bed, get better, blah, blah, blah.

Abe: Well, I'm gonna check on the people that are out there looking for Hope. And when we find her, I'll call you.

Bo: Abe, um, about that. Uh... I think we should call the guys off.

[Door unlocks]

Steve: Good. You're here. Come here. I got to go see Uncle Bo. I need you to stay here and keep an eye on your mom.

Stephanie: Is something else wrong with Uncle Bo?

Steve: No, I just need to talk to him.

Stephanie: He's recovering from major surgery, and you've been sticking to Mom like glue. Does this have something to do with Ava? Come on, Papa, tell me what it is, or I'm waking Mom up right now.

Hope: Just let me make another call.

Ava: No.

Hope: I'm not gonna call the cops.

Ava: You're not gonna call anybody unless I tell you to.

Hope: I don't understand what you're doing, Ava. You had me call Steve. When he offered to come here, you told him no.

Ava: God, you think I'm stupid, don't you? As soon as Patch knows where we are, he's gonna call the cops. And we can't have that, now, can we? I told you not to underestimate me. My Daddy taught me well.

Hope: Well, if you and your daddy are so close, then why doesn't he just grab him and bring him here?

Ava: Leave my Father out of this.

Hope: Oh, right, sorry. He's not so big on Steve, is he?

Ava: You know, that's my problem, and it's none of your business.

Hope: You don't want him to find out, do you? What do you think would happen if he did find out about your plans for a future with Steve? What do you think your daddy would do then?

Ava: Daddy will never know because he's out of town. And while he's away, I can get away with almost anything.

Hope: But the men who guard you work for him.

Ava: Yeah, but I told you -- they're family. They love me. Like Angelo. We grew up together. He works for Daddy, but he protects me. So, if I get out, he covers. And then if Daddy finds out the truth, he can get angry with Angelo instead of me. But here's the thing. They all blame Patch for what happened to me, and they would all like to see him dead.

Abe: Bo, you want me to stop searching for Hope? I thought you were really worried about her. You sure as hell had me worried about her.

Bo: I am sorry, Abe. I probably just over-reacted.

Abe: So what's changed?

Bo: Uh...I feel kind of stupid. I-I woke up from this dream just a little while ago where I couldn't find Hope. I was kind of panicked. Lexie said it's probably 'cause of the drugs. I'm sure she's just sleeping. She'll call me when she wakes up.

Abe: We have searched everywhere we can think of.

Lexie: Yeah, she's not home. She hasn't stopped by the pub, hasn't checked on Ciara. No one's seen her since she left here.

Bo: Yeah. You know what? Um, we haven't been shopping since we got home from Ireland. I'm sure she just went out to grab some food. And her phone was practically dead when she was here, so it probably died by now.

Abe: Why are you suddenly so calm? 15 minutes ago, you were freaking out.

Bo: I just had time to wake up, get my wits about me. I think this is the best way to handle it.

Lexie: Okay, well, your blood pressure and heart rate are still elevated, so try to relax and get some rest.

Bo: All right. Thanks.

Lexie: Okay.

Steve: Hey, no. Shh. Don't do that. Your mama needs to rest. Now, she was having some pretty bad cramping before.

Stephanie: How bad?

Steve: Bad enough that I had to call the doctor. She's fine now, but Dr. Elman was adamant. She needs to rest and not get stressed.

Stephanie: Then why are you going to see Uncle Bo? You've barely left Mom's side since the whole thing with the woman from your past started.

Steve: I just need you to stay with her.

Stephanie: I just wish you'd tell me what's going on. Does it have to do with Ava or not?

Steve: I don't have time to get into it right now.

Stephanie: So this is another one of your "you're just gonna have to trust me" deals.

Steve: Yeah, afraid so.

Stephanie: Okay.

Steve: Okay. Keep her calm and quiet. I'll be back as soon as I can. Throw the dead bolt.

Marlena: Besides being a huge presumption, what is this?

John: Can't I just invite you to dinner without you becoming all suspicious?

Marlena: You didn't invite me to supper. You lured me.

John: I didn't lure you. But I assumed that if I asked you outright, you would have said no.

Marlena: You're probably right.

John: I'd just like to put this little business on the docks behind us.

Marlena: Really?

John: It wasn't my intention to upset or disappoint you.

Marlena: You mean by lying?

John: I'm trying to be nice here.

Marlena: Why do you suddenly care what I think of you?

Kayla: Steve?

Stephanie: No, Mom. Hi, it's me. Dad's not here. He told me to come by and stay with you till he got back.

Kayla: Oh. Well, he must have gone out to get some more food. We really have to get a kitchen before this baby's born.

Stephanie: Dad said that the doctor had to come by and see you. Is everything okay?

Kayla: Yeah, everything's fine. I just need to take it easy.

Stephanie: Well, how long were you sleeping?

Kayla: Um, not too long.

Stephanie: Well, then, how about you go in your bedroom and get some real sleep?

Kayla: You sound just like your father.

Stephanie: He told me to take care of you. Now, go. Come on.

Kayla: I can't take it from both of you. No, really, I'm going. I know where the bedroom is.

Stephanie: Have a good nap.

Kayla: Thanks. [Door closes]

[Knock on door]

Stephanie: Who is it?

Max: It's Max.

Stephanie: Hi.

Max: Hi. All right, what's going on?

Stephanie: What do you mean?

Max: I know you got the call from your dad. What's up?

Stephanie: Oh, nothing.

Max: Don't give me that. I know when something's bothering you. And after all we've been through, I don't think any one of us should be keeping any secrets.

Stephanie: It's not about me. It's about my Mom and Dad. And if I tell you, you have to promise not to tell anyone.

Max: All right. So, what is it? I mean, maybe I can help.

Lexie: Hey.

Bo: Hey.

Lexie: I don't know what's going on, Bo, but as your doctor, I'm concerned with how it may affect your health.

Bo: I don't want any more medication.

Lexie: Then tell me what's going on. You were incredibly worried about Hope, insisted I get Abe down here. And then when he agrees to have his men look for her, you suddenly back down. What happened that I don't know about? And don't tell me you just changed your mind.

Bo: Hey, you know me. I wouldn't back down if Hope was in trouble. It's important that you trust me, okay?

Lexie: All right. But if Hope isn't found by morning --

Bo: We'll call out the Marines, all right? Just make sure Abe doesn't do anything I don't want him to. Do you know when, um, Roman's gonna be back in town?

Lexie: Abe said it might not be until tomorrow.

Bo: Okay, thanks. I mean it.

Lexie: Listen... I just want Hope found.

Bo: Right.

Lexie: And I want you to get well.

Bo: Yeah.

[Knock on door]

Steve: Is he up for a visitor?

Lexie: Yeah. Might do him some good. Just don't get him riled up, okay?

Steve: I'll try not to. [Door closes]

Bo: What the hell is going on, man? Why can't we have the cops looking for Hope?

Hope: If Steve comes here and your father finds out --

Ava: He will not be happy.

Hope: Why would you put him in that kind of danger?

Ava: Because I don't want to live without him. And once Daddy sees how much he's helped me and made me well again and how happy I am, he's gonna accept it.

Hope: I want you to know it's not gonna be as easy as you might think to get Steve away from me again.

Ava: Oh, really? What, you think you had some great love, do you?

Hope: Yeah, I do.

Ava: Oh. Okay, well, why don't you tell me about it? Tell me all about what life was like with Steve.

Hope: We met, um -- hard to believe -- almost 20 years ago.

Ava: Wait, you've known him that long?

Hope: Yeah, I have. And I fell in love with him almost right away. Although, I have to admit that it was kind of hard for me to convince him to settle down, considering he had such a wild side back then.

Ava: Yeah, well, he still does.

Hope: But he loved me. I knew he loved me. And, yeah, it may have taken awhile, but, finally, we were together, despite all the obstacles, all the people who tried to come between us. When we fell in love, we stayed in love.

Ava: Oh, well, see, see, now, that cannot be true. Otherwise he never would have fallen in love with me and stayed with me for all those years.

Hope: That was only because he wasn't with me.

Ava: Oh, my goodness. [Laughs] So, wow, he left you before. So much for your great love.

Hope: No, Ava. He wasn't with me because everybody had thought that he died.

John: Well, now, you're the one who's always so hot to pretend that you and I still have some sort of a relationship.

Marlena: So that's it. You're playing at it. Why?

John: Well, at least sit down and have a drink.

Marlena: Well, I'll sit down, but I won't have a drink.

John: Okay, here it is. I don't know why your opinion of me matters, but it does. Happy?

Marlena: I would be, if it meant that you were having memories resurface. Are you?

John: Please, don't start in with that again. Look... you're smart. You're classy. And you have gone out of your way to help me, and sometimes I feel bad when I disappoint you. That's my way of apologizing. So, just accept it, enjoy it, and please don't try to analyze everything that I do and say.

Marlena: We'll see.

John: Can't ask for more than that. By the way, that's for you.

John: Well, go on. It's not gonna bite you.

Marlena: There's more than one way to be bitten, you know.

John: Did you get that out of a fortune cookie?

Marlena: And don't make fun of my apprehensions if you ever want to be forgiven.

John: Just open the damn box, will you?

Marlena: Okay, fine. Ooh.

John: I knew that would smooth things over. So, all's forgiven, right?

Marlena: Wrong.

Max: Your dad's worried about this girl he was involved with?

Stephanie: Shh. Yes. That's why he's having us guarded around the clock. He's going crazy trying to find her.

Max: So, he never told your mom about her?

Stephanie: No, and he's not going to because he's afraid that too much stress can harm the baby.

Max: This will definitely give her a lot of stress.

Stephanie: You cannot tell my Dad that I told you.

Max: Of course, all right? I'm just glad you did.

Stephanie: I just needed to tell someone. This whole thing has me scared and worried.

Max: Look, you trust me, don't you?

Stephanie: Of course I do.

Max: Okay. Now, this girl is probably watching you. She's probably watching your dad and your mom. And she's probably being very careful about it. But she's not watching me. If you want me to snoop around, see what I can find out --

Stephanie: My Dad already talked to Abe, unofficially. And there's not much more you can find out than the cops. They can't even get a lead on her.

Max: How's that possible?

Stephanie: Her dad's some kind of a crime boss.

Max: Oh, this just gets better and better. [Sighing] Oh, man. Okay, look, I-I'll do anything I can to help -- you know that -- even if it's just to be here with you.

Stephanie: And that's all I really need right now.

Max: Well, you got it. All right? Come here. You know I care about you a lot.

Ava: You thought Patch was dead?

Hope: There was an explosion, a bomb.

Ava: Someone tried to kill him?

Hope: The bomb was meant for someone else, one of his best friends. But then, um, last year, he came back to me.

Ava: So you were separated a long time.

Hope: Physically. But I never stopped loving him.

Ava: Well, then he was with me.

Hope: Only when he didn't know who he really was.

Ava: What do you mean --

Hope: There was a man named Stefano DiMera. You see, Steve had amnesia. He couldn't remember who he was, his family, his past, his friends. He couldn't remember anything. But, you see, once he did remember, he remembered me. He remembered his feelings for me, his love for me.

Ava: You don't know when to shut up, do you?

Hope: You asked me to tell you about my life with Steve and about our marriage. So, you see, you don't get to tell me to shut up because you don't like what I have to say. I'm sorry that you're upset, but I'm upset for being taken here against my will. I'm upset that you're back in Steve's life again. So, you see...we're both upset. Let me go, and we'll call it even.

Ava: No.

Bo: Talk to me, man. You said you know where Hope is.

Steve: I do.

Bo: Where?

Steve: She's with a woman named Ava Vitali.

Bo: Who is -- why is she with her, and why do you know this and I don't?

Steve: Because Hope called me.

Bo: What the hell is going on?

Steve: You need to calm down.

Bo: Talk to me, man! What the hell's going on?!

Steve: Okay, okay. Short version -- crazy lady from when I was M.I.A. resurfaces, tries to get to me.

Bo: How?

Steve: She caused the plane crash on the way back from Ireland.

Bo: She killed Pop and almost killed the rest of us?

Steve: She claims she didn't want the plane to go down. She just wanted to keep it on the ground, but her people botched the job.

Bo: Oh, that makes me feel a hell of a lot better.

Steve: I'm so sorry about your pop. I'll never be able to make it up to you. But we got to deal with what's going on right now.

Bo: Which is what, exactly?

Steve: This woman is threatening Kayla and our unborn child.

Bo: Why don't you call the cops, have them bring her in?

Steve: We can't get a beat on her. We tried. I saw her once. I talked to her face-to-face, th sheenis appeared. I got this call a little while ago.

Bo: Okay, what does that got to do with Hope?

Steve: Ava's got Hope. For some reason, the crazy bitch thinks Hope is Kayla.

John: What's the matter? You don't like it?

Marlena: You were right when you said you weren't remembering. If you were, you would have known that things like this don't really matter to me.

John: What woman doesn't love diamonds?

Marlena: This woman... especially when they're being used as a bribe.

John: It's a gift. A bribe is giving someone something when you expect something in return.

Marlena: You mean, like the Customs agent who was delaying and impounding the Kiriakis shipments.

John: I don't know what you're talking about. You're not keeping it? Come on. I read somewhere that diamonds are a girl's best friend.

Marlena: My best friend has always been my husband. And right now, I miss him more than ever.

Max: Look, I know things have been really crazy lately, and I feel bad that we haven't been able to spend more time together.

Stephanie: Yeah, me too.

Max: Look, I don't know, I find it kind of amazing that we kind of have the time right now to be together. But don't we both have a lot of things we need to be doing?

Stephanie: Probably. But whatever it is can wait.

Max: Yeah, well, I couldn't agree with you more. Stephanie... there's something that I-I want to tell you. Um, and I would have wanted it to be more romantic, you know, with candlelight and champagne and roses... but I guess this will have to do.

Stephanie: What is it?

Max: Stephanie, I, uh... I... I feel... very strongly for you.

Stephanie: [Laughs] Oh.

Hope: Tell me your story, Ava.

Ava: What? You doubt that Patch really loved me?

Hope: No, I-I just think he was really confused at the time, didn't know who he really was.

Ava: No, but he knew who I was, and he promised that he would love me and that we would be together forever.

Steve: [Sighs]

Ava: [Sighs] Oh, that was wonderful.

Steve: Oh, yeah, baby. Mmm. [Exhales deeply] Well, the old man would kill me if he knew I was here.

Ava: [Laughs] That's, uh, half the fun, isn't it?

Steve: Yeah. It does kind of make it a little more exciting.

Ava: Oh, it couldn't be.

Steve: I love you, baby.

Ava: Make an honest woman out of me.

Steve: I don't think Daddy would approve.

Ava: Ooh, I don't care what Daddy thinks.

Steve: I know you don't... care, but your daddy cares... about what you do... and who you do it with.

Ava: And what he doesn't know can't hurt us.

Steve: What he finds out could hurt me.

Ava: Are you worried? Are you worried about what he might do to you?

Steve: I'm worried he'll -- I'm worried he'll keep us apart.

Ava: Then marry me. And he's not gonna have a choice.

Steve: What about that big wedding you always wanted?

Ava: Oh, baby, I want you so much more.

Ava: He loved me more than anyone... and he will again.

Bo: This woman is holding my wife prisoner?

Steve: Yeah, I'm pretty sure.

Bo: Pretty sure? What the hell --

Steve: Listen, you need to calm down. You just had surgery.

Bo: Yeah, and you just told me that some crazy bitch has kidnaped my wife.

Steve: And I'm handling it.

Bo: How?

Steve: I'm waiting for Ava to call me back.

Bo: You're waiting for a phone call while this crazy woman is doing God knows what to my wife? What the hell is wrong with you, man?

John: So, what exactly are you telling me... that all this means nothing?

Marlena: I'm sorry you went to all this trouble... and expense.

John: And I think you're playing hard to get.

Marlena: John, you can't buy my forgiveness, not the way you bought the Customs Agent.

John: You're not gonna let that go, are you?

Marlena: Not until you are truly sorry for what you did.

John: I didn't do anything. But even if I did, what's the problem with spending money to make money? Isn't that the way the game is played here?

Marlena: It's wrong... not to mention immoral and illegal. You've got much better ways to spend your money.

John: Yeah, like how, buy you matching earrings and a bracelet?

Max: Ouch. That's not the reaction I was looking for.

Stephanie: I'm sorry. But "I feel strongly about you"? [Laughs] Are you afraid to say the word?

Max: What? What word?

Stephanie: The word. You know, the word?

Max: I'm not afraid of anything.

Stephanie: Yes, you are. You're afraid you're gonna say it and I'm not gonna say it back, and you're gonna feel vulnerable and embarrassed.

Max: I don't know what you're talking about.

Stephanie: You're such a liar.

Max: Liar? What are we, 5?

Stephanie: Then say it.

Max: Say what?

Stephanie: Don't play dumb with me.

Max: Oh, apparently I'm dumb and I'm a liar. I didn't have this kind of conversation since I was in the sandbox. So, yeah, thank you for ruining the moment.

Stephanie: I'm sorry. I was just kidding. And, just for the record, I'm not afraid to say it.

Max: Oh, okay. Then you say it.

Stephanie: Actually, I made up my mind a while ago. But I just haven't gotten around to it.

Max: You're stalling.

Stephanie: Okay. Are you ready? Love. There. You happy?

Hope: It sounds like you and Steve... had some really wonderful times together.

Ava: We did.

Hope: Tell me more.

Ava: Look, I'm not gonna talk about the past because it gives me a headache. I'm just gonna talk about the future.

Hope: The future you're so convinced you can have again with Steve.

Ava: The future that I know I'm gonna have with Patch. You're the only one who seems to need any convincing.

Hope: Then prove it to me by calling him and getting him here the way you said you would.

Steve: Listen, man. You got to calm down. Now, listen, I talked to Hope. She's okay. I'm the one Ava wants. I know exactly how to work her. I'm gonna bring Hope back to you safely. I promise.

Bo: Why'd you let her get involved with this in the first place?

Steve: I didn't let her, man. I don't know how Ava got the idea that Hope was Kayla.

Bo: Why don't you call the cops, let them take care of this?

Steve: I did. I went to Abe, off the record. I told him that she caused the plane crash.

Bo: He wouldn't let something like that slide.

Steve: He didn't want to, but we don't have any proof.

Bo: Son of a -- if anything happens to Hope...

Steve: It won't.

Bo: Better not. If she is hurt in any way, I will kick your butt.

John: I don't understand why you're all worked up. It's a present. Big deal.

Marlena: It is ludicrously extravagant.

John: I can afford it.

Marlena: Yes, you can. But you can spend your money on a much better cause, like feeding the hungry or housing the homeless. John, don't spend your money on junk like this.

John: You know, it's easy to be generous or concerned when you want for nothing. Come on. Admit it. You want the damn necklace, don't you?

Marlena: What I want is my husband, my real husband... who would never dream of trying to buy my affection or my forgiveness. Maggie, for you.

Kayla: I'm sorry.

Stephanie: No, uh, do you need anything?

Kayla: Um, no. I just, um, I just couldn't sleep.

Max: You know, I'm probably just gonna go anyway.

Kayla: No, no, no. Don't leave on my account. Um, I'll just go back in the bedroom.

Stephanie: No, no. You stay. It's fine. Promise.

Kayla: You know, uh, everybody doesn't really remember that Max was adopted by the Brady's.

Max: Yeah, and she's a Brady daughter.

Stephanie: A few of the sorority sisters have already mentioned that, yeah.

Kayla: Well, just so that you're prepared for the comments and can deal with the misunderstandings.

Max: If anybody says anything, I'm just gonna take their arm, I'm gonna twist it, and I'm gonna just...

Kayla: I thought your father would have been back by now.

Hope: You did say you were gonna call Steve and get him here, didn't you?

Ava: Why are you so anxious?

Hope: Because once you see how much Steve truly loves me and how excited and committed he is to this baby, you'll finally come to your senses and let me go.

Ava: You really think that's gonna happen?

Hope: I know it is.

Ava: Oh, you're in for a rude awakening.

Hope: Ava, look, I don't want to upset you. Really, I don't. I just want to get back to my life.

Ava: Yeah, well, then we both want the same thing. Only we both can't have the same thing, so we'll see who gets what she wants.

Hope: Yes, we will. But first you got to make the call. You got to get him here.

Steve: I don't blame you for being upset, man. But right now, the important thing is we got to find Hope and keep her and Kayla and Stephanie safe.

Bo: You didn't mean for this to happen. I get that. But now we got to find Hope, and we got to get this crazy woman locked up.

Steve: We're not gonna do anything 'cause you're gonna stay here and get well, and I'm gonna handle it.

Bo: How?

Steve: Like I said, right now is just a waiting game. [Cellphone ringing] It's restricted. It could be her.

Maggie: May I?

Marlena: Please, be my guest.

Maggie: [Gasps] Oh. Uh, I couldn't possibly accept this.

Marlena: Oh. Well, then, sell it and give the money to charity.

Maggie: Well, um, that didn't go the way you hoped, did it?

John: Not exactly. Guess I'm not very good at this man/woman thing.

Maggie: I wouldn't say that. A lot of women would go completely gaga over a gift like this.

John: Not that woman.

Maggie: No. Do you want to impress Marlena? Then do what she suggested. Sell the necklace and give the money to a worthy cause.

John: I don't think I want to impress her anymore. It's not worth it. She's too high maintenance.

Maggie: [Chuckles] Come on, John. We both know that that isn't true.

Stephanie: Dad went to go see Uncle Bo at the hospital. You want me to call him?

Kayla: No, no, no. Listen, I'm sure your Uncle Bo's enjoying the company. Your father's probably making him laugh. And, you know, good company and a little relaxation is the best medicine Bo could ask for. And, just between the three of us, I'm kind of happy not to have your father hovering over me all the time.

Max: Hmm.

Kayla: What?

Max: Steve just wants you to be safe.

Kayla: Why wouldn't I be?

Stephanie: He meant the baby. You know Dad. He never stops worrying.

[Cellphone ringing]

Bo: Come on, man, answer the damn phone.

Steve: I'm just trying to figure out the best way to play it, if it is her. [Cellphone beeps] Hello?

Ava: Patch, it's me.

Steve: Ava, baby. So, what's the deal?

Ava: Never any bull with you, is there?

Steve: No. Will you let me talk to Kayla?

Ava: No.

Steve: She's all right, isn't she?

Ava: Yeah, so far.

Steve: Okay, listen, Ava. No games. Just be straight with me. Tell me what you want.

Ava: You remember the roadhouse on Old Route 19 where we used to meet so Daddy wouldn't find us?

Steve: Yeah, how could I forget?

Ava: Well, you meet me there in the alley behind the motel next door in a couple of hours.

Steve: Will Kayla be with you?

Ava: Stop asking questions and do what I tell you to. Otherwise, you're never gonna see your pregnant wife again.

E.J.: All we need to do is show them that we are married in more than just name only.

Chelsea: Nick has some big, exciting news to share.

Morgan: What is it?

Nick: I don't want to say until Max and Stephanie get here.

Ava: You think he's gonna want to stay with you.

Hope: And if he does?

Ava: That won't be good for any of us.
