[Monitor beeping] [Door opens]

Hope: Is everything ready?

Lexie: You've already signed the consent form. Now all we have to do is get Bo prepped and down to surgery.

Kayla: And his blood work came back fine, so I'm gonna give him this immunosuppressant so that his body will not reject Chelsea's pancreas.

Hope: Chelsea's gonna be all right, isn't she?

Lexie: I'll keep a close eye on her. As I said, I'll be assisting Dr. Taylor in removing part of her pancreas.

Kayla: And I will be assisting Dr. Jonas with Bo's operation.

Hope: [Exhales deeply] I know they're both in good hands.

Philip: Here.

Shawn D.: Thanks.

Belle: I just talked to one of the nurses, and they're still prepping your Dad for surgery, but they did say we could see him before he's moved to the O.R.

Shawn D.: They need to move him faster. Otherwise, he's not gonna make it.

Belle: He's gonna be fine. Everybody says Dr. Jonas is brilliant. He's gonna take good care of your Dad.

Philip: She's right. There's not a more qualified surgeon in the world to perform this procedure.

Shawn D.: I just wish that I'd have been a match for the transplant. At least then I'd feel like I was doing something to help.

Belle: He knows you love him. That helps.

Shawn D.: It's not enough, Belle.

Belle: Well, you gave him a reason to keep fighting when you told him about our plans.

Philip: What plans?

John: Is it just me or does this whole family seem cursed?

Marlena: No, this family is not cursed. We've just had sort of a lot of heartbreak lately.

John: I guess they didn't inherit the luck of the Irish. [Chuckles]

Marlena: No. Maybe not. But we are all blessed with a family who loves and adores each other.

John: I guess you could consider that a blessing.

Marlena: [Chuckles] John, you're part of it, you know?

John: All the same, I think I'll keep my distance. The way things are going, one of them could get struck by lightning. I'd hate to get caught in the cross fire.

Marlena: Excuse me.

Caroline: How's Chelsea? We wanted to see her, but Dr. Jonas said there wasn't time.

Max: Well, she's relieved she got the alcohol out of her system.

Stephanie: She really wants to help save her Dad. I know it means a lot to her.

Victor: She's a brave young lady.

Max: I'm worried, though. The operation's risky for both her and Bo.

Caroline: They come from a family of fighters. So if anybody can beat the odds, it's Bo and Chelsea.

Chelsea: And I wish you were here, too, Mom. I know that you can't control the weather, but even if you could, by the time you got off the plane, I'd be out of surgery. Yeah. She promised that she would call every hour and give you an update. I love you, too. I will. Bye. [Inhales, exhales deeply] She feels bad that she can't be here.

Kate: I know. I know.

Chelsea: I'm glad that you're here. It means a lot.

Kate: I will always be here for you.

Chelsea: Thank you. Well, I guess I should start filling these out. They'll probably be in to take me to surgery at any minute.

Kate: I'm glad Bo is getting the transplant. I just wish it wasn't coming from you.

Chelsea: You know how much this means to me. I've put my dad through a lot. I owe it to him.

Kate: Your dad loves you. You don't have to repay him.

Chelsea: I want to do this. I need to do this.

Kate: I understand. I mean, I really do. I'm just worried because the procedure is very serious.

Chelsea: I'll be fine. Okay? I'll be hitting up the clubs in no time.

Daniel: Kate's right, you know? This is no day at the beach. You're risking your life. Are you sure you want to do this?

Belle: Uh, Shawn told his Dad about all the things we want to do as a family and that he needed to get better so he could be a part of it.

Philip: Hmm. Family means everything to Bo. If that doesn't give him the will to live, nothing will.

Shawn D.: I hope so.

Philip: It will. Are you guys hungry?

Shawn D.: No.

Belle: No, I'm okay.

Philip: I'll be right back, then.

Belle: Oh, God. I'm sorry. I didn't want to lie to Philip about us leaving town, but I don't think this is the right time.

Shawn D.: We might have to put those plans on hold, depending on what happens with my Dad. I hope that's okay with you.

Belle: Of course it's okay. It doesn't matter where we are, as long as we're together.

Marlena: How are you holding up, darling?

Shawn D.: I'm just anxious for them to hurry up and get started.

Marlena: Well, it's a long procedure, a long process. Then, of course, there's all the waiting.

John: I don't know how you can work in a hospital. It's just so...tense. And you want to get into nursing, right?

Belle: Yeah. Yeah, I do. And it can be stressful, but it feels really good to know you're helping people.

John: Well, aren't you just a ball of sunshine -- always looking on the bright side? You must get that from your mother.

Belle: Yes, I do. I also got it from you, when you didn't used to be so pessimistic.

John: I prefer to think of myself as a realist.

Shawn D.: And I prefer your daughter's positive attitude. It's nice to have around in times like these.

Marlena: You are nice to have around.

Roman: So, how are you two doing?

Max: Yeah, we're okay. Steph and I were just in with Chelsea. I think they're almost ready for the operation.

Stephanie: I can't believe she's giving up part of her pancreas. It sounds so scary.

Steve: Oh, it's not so bad, Baby. I gave up a whole kidney to your Uncle Jack, and I'm fine.

Stephanie: You had two kidneys. Chelsea only has one pancreas.

Steve: I could have sworn we had two of those things.

Stephanie: [Chuckles] You're such a dork.

Lexie: Okay. Bo's ready for the big event. Kayla and I are going to scrub in, and we'll send someone to bring him to the O.R.

Hope: You take good care of my husband and my stepdaughter.

Lexie: We will.

Hope: You're gonna fight in there, right? Good. 'Cause I'm not done loving you. Do you hear me? I need you, Brady. Your whole family needs you. So you fight. I love you. I love you, Brady.

Chelsea: I definitely want to be my Dad's donor. You guys can't talk me out of this.

Daniel: I'm not trying to talk you out of it. At this moment, you're his only shot. I just want to be sure you know what you're getting into.

Chelsea: I don't care if I'm risking my life. He's repeatedly put everything on the line for me, so it's only right that I return the favor.

Daniel: It's a big gesture with possibly big consequences.

Chelsea: I understand. What you both need to understand is how much I love my Father. It doesn't matter to me if I survive this, just so long as he does. He's my Dad. He's my Father. So you don't have to ask me if I'm sure about this, because I am more than sure. I'm ready. So we're all set for you.

Daniel: Someone will come in shortly to take you to the O.R.

Chelsea: Just, um, save my Dad, okay?

Daniel: I'll do my best. How's that?

Kate: [Exhales deeply] I'm very proud of you. Your courage is amazing.

Chelsea: Really? Because I am scared as hell right now.

Kate: Baby.

Daniel: All right, gang. Everything has been set in motion. The donor and the recipient appear to be compatible. Can't ask for more than that. Rejection possibilities we will handle as they come. Dr. Taylor?

Dr. Taylor: As soon as Dr. Carver and I examine Chelsea's pancreas, we'll send word for you to open up Mr. Brady.

Daniel: We are working against the clock. Bo needs this operation yesterday. No mistakes. We are in. We are out. I want shock and awe, beauty and poetry.

Dr. Taylor: This will be very interesting. I've never performed this particular procedure.

Daniel: Welcome to the newest show in town.

Lexie: But you have had success with it.

Daniel: I've also had failures. I'm not a big believer in luck, but Bo's condition makes him the perfect candidate for this surgery.

Kayla: I think we need all the luck we can get.

Victor: Be strong, son. Shawn and Isabella will be looking down on you.

Caroline: And we will be praying for you and Chelsea until the operation is complete.

Victor: Godspeed.

Roman: Hang on a second. Okay? Okay, little brother. Don't make us worry too long, now.

Steve: We'll be waiting right here for you, Buddy.

Stephanie: We'll see you soon, Uncle Bo.

Max: We're pulling for you.

Marlena: Bo... we're all right here with you. We're loving you. And I know you can feel our arms around you. We're waiting for your recovery.

John: Hang tough.

Philip: Hey, good luck, bro.

Belle: Hey. [Smooches] That's from Claire, okay?

Shawn D.: I love you, Dad. You're gonna make it.

Nurse: Okay. We have to get Mr. Brady to the O.R.

[Door opens]

Chelsea: Nick.

Nick: I'm so sorry I couldn't come right away.

Chelsea: It's okay. I'm just glad that you got to come before I went in to surgery.

Nick: I totally would have been here sooner, but I was looking all over my apartment for this guy.

Chelsea: He's cute. A little beat up, though.

Nick: His name's Teddy. [Clears throat] I know. The name's not very original. But my Mom gave him to me when I was 10, when I was getting my appendix removed.

Chelsea: So, is he on loan, then, or do I get to keep him?

Nick: Um, I think we can share custody.

Chelsea: Believe it or not, Teddy is exactly what I need right now.

Nick: When does the operation start?

Chelsea: Soon.

Nick: You sure you want to go through with this?

Chelsea: Yeah. I have to.

Nick: No, you don't. I don't want to lose you.

Chelsea: You won't.

Nick: You can't guarantee that.

Chelsea: Nick, I'm the one. I'm the match. And I'm happy. Can't you be happy for me?

Nick: I wouldn't exactly describe myself as happy right now.

Chelsea: Have a little faith.

Nick: I'll try.

Nurse: Hello, Miss Brady. It's time to take you to O.R.

Chelsea: Okay.

Kate: Good luck, Sweetie. I love you.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Kate: I love you so much.

Nick: I love you.

Chelsea: I love you, too.

Max: Good luck, Chelsea.

Chelsea: Thank you, Max.

Stephanie: We love you.

Chelsea: I love you.

Daniel: Any other questions?

Lexie: I'd say we covered everything.

Dr. Taylor: If we run into any trouble, we'll let you know right away.

Daniel: Dr. Johnson and I will have Bo good to go right next door.

Hope: Chelsea.

Chelsea: Hey.

Hope: Thank you so much for doing this.

Chelsea: You don't need to thank me. It'll be easy. I just have to lie there and fall asleep.

Hope: I am so proud of you.

Chelsea: I would do anything for my Dad.

Hope: I know. I know. I love you, Chelsea. [Smooches] [Sniffles] I'll see you in a little while.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Hope: I better let you go.

Chelsea: Okay.

Hope: I'll see you when you get out.

Chelsea: Wait for a second. [Exhales deeply] Some of the nurses told me on the way up here that you didn't want me to go through with the operation. Well, too bad [Chuckles] 'Cause I'm doing it. I'm disobeying you again. Typical, right? [Chuckles] I couldn't live with myself if I didn't. So you can yell at me when you get home and you're well, because you will be going home. And I, for one, can't wait.

Nurse: We need to get him to the O.R.

Chelsea: I just -- one more thing. Even though we're gonna be in different rooms, we're still in this together. We're a team, so just make sure that you take good care of my pancreas -- okay? -- Because I only have so much of it to give away. I love you. Okay. I'm ready.

Kevin: Hi, Chelsea. My name's Kevin. How you feeling?

Chelsea: A little nervous, I guess.

Kevin: That's normal. I heard what you're doing for your Dad. You're an incredible daughter.

Chelsea: Yeah. That's me. I'm a real angel.

Kevin: Now, I'm going to inject an anesthetic into your I.V. You'll be asleep before you know it.

Chelsea: I'm not -- I'm not gonna wake up or anything in the middle of the operation, right, because that would really freak me out?

Kevin: You don't have to worry about that. Ready?

Chelsea: Yeah.

Daniel: We're gonna put him under a heavier sedation, but we won't make an incision until we hear that Chelsea's pancreas is viable for transplant.

Nurse: No sense cutting him open without a reason.

Daniel: I try not to make that a habit.

Kayla: How long will it take?

Daniel: Well, it's a long procedure. But when he wakes up, he'll feel like he had a good night's sleep.

Kayla: Well, good. Then let's give my brother a nice rest and a working pancreas.

Daniel: I'll see what I can do.

[Monitor beeping]

Lexie: Okay. She's ready, Dr. Taylor.

Dr. Taylor: Okay. Let's get started. Scalpel.

[Indistinct talking]

Max: I got aces.

Steve: Ah-ha-ha! Who taught you babies to play, anyway?

Max: What is that? You taught me.

Steve: Oh, yeah. Now I remember. I held some things back so you could never beat me.

Stephanie: You'd think we'd be experts after spending an entire summer in Vegas.

Max: It was a crazy time, but we had some good times, too.

Stephanie: Yeah, like Nick winning all that money. Blackjack, was it?

Nick: Yeah. It was Blackjack. Remember Chelsea's expression when I told her I won? Her jaw hit the floor.

Stephanie: Yes, I do. We should all go back sometime, as soon as Chelsea recovers.

Steve: Can I go, too?

Stephanie: Nope. You'll be too busy with the baby.

Steve: Oh, thanks. Leave me home to change diapers.

Nick: I think I'm just gonna sit out the next round. I just can't concentrate.

Stephanie: Look, Chelsea's gonna be fine. Come on. Keep playing. We all need the distraction.

Steve: Come on. Let's play some cards.

Max: Yeah, let's do it.

Steve: Who's dealing?

Max: I'm not dealing.

Steve: Baby, you deal.

Dr. Taylor: Dr. Carver, could you adjust that clamp for me, please?

Lexie: Got it.

Dr. Taylor: She's bleeding a little more than I'd like.

Lexie: It's not much of a problem -- yet.

Dr. Taylor: Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Belle: Hey.

Shawn D.: Hey.

Belle: So, the food in the cafeteria was a little bit sketchy, so I went down the street and got us a hamburger.

Shawn D.: I'm not very hungry.

Belle: Shawn, you have to eat. We're gonna be here for a while.

Shawn D.: My stomach's in knots.

Belle: Well, you need to relax. Listen, you're not gonna do yourself or anybody else any good if you keep stressing out.

Shawn D.: Yeah, I know. You're right.

Belle: Why don't we think about something positive, like how proud your dad's gonna be when you graduate from the police academy?

Shawn D.: And how happy he's gonna be when you, me, and Claire go sailing around the world?

Belle: See? There's a lot to look forward to.

Shawn D.: You're awesome.

Kate: Hello, John. I haven't had a chance to talk to you since you've been back.

John: And you are?

Kate: I'm Kate. I'm your ex-fiancé©.

John: Huh. Wow. Okay. Sorry about that.

Kate: I'll try not to take it personally.

John: Are we on good terms?

Kate: Yeah. I'd say, uh, we're, uh, friends, which is why I'm going to give you a little bit of a warning.

John: About what?

Kate: Well, my son Philip told me that you're trying to play hardball tactics down on the dock.

John: Well, if that's the way he sees it.

Kate: Well, that's a tactic the old John would never have used.

John: Things change.

Kate: Maybe they should continue to change, because Victor and Philip can be quite ruthless. Going up against a Kiriakis can be very dangerous. I should know.

John: Well, thanks for the tip. But they will find out that I am a formidable opponent. Are we done here?

Kate: Yeah. We're done. Fair enough. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Hope: I saw Chelsea right before she went into the O.R., and, I have to say, she was holding it together pretty well.

Roman: She is turning out to be a real champ -- just like her Dad.

Hope: Yeah.

Marlena: That's what happens when you fill somebody with love and support, given to them by a caring family.

Hope: I'm gonna go to the chapel and light a candle.

Roman: I'll go with you.

Marlena: If anything happens, I'll get ahold of you.

Roman: Okay. Thanks.

John: I don't understand why everybody's just moping around here. The surgery's supposed to last for hours. They need to go home, eat some protein, get some sleep. That's the logical thing to do.

Marlena: I know it is, but that's so hard when somebody you love is in danger.

John: Yeah, well, all this hand-wringing isn't helping anybody. I'm leaving. I don't like it here.

Marlena: Okay. I'll go with you. I could really use some fresh air. Let me just tell Belle where everybody went.

Dr. Taylor: Everything looks good. Call O.R. 2. Tell them the pancreas is viable for transplant.

Nurse: The pancreas has been approved. Dr. Taylor says that you can start to operate on Mr. Brady.

Daniel: All right, kids. Hang tight.

Marlena: Say, there, how is Rolf adjusting to life as your butler?

John: Oh, he feels that it's beneath him, but the man really doesn't have much of a choice, does he? Actually, he's going crazy since I locked up his laboratory. He's really lost without his Bunsen Burner.

Marlena: I shudder to think what goes on in that demented mind of his. John, have you asked him about your programming?

John: Not really. He's adamant that I will never recover my past.

Marlena: He's wrong about that. Do you have any memory, any recall of the brainwashing?

John: Mostly the pain. That's about it. That's why I'm not a big fan of the hospital. Sterile environment, monitors, machines.

Marlena: Losing people you love.

John: I didn't say I cared about Bo Brady.

Marlena: The same way you don't care about...your mother or Shawn?

John: I barely knew them. You were the one that said their deaths were supposed to mean something to me, but they didn't. And if Bo dies, I probably won't care about that, either.

Marlena: You know, for someone who doesn't care about losing Bo or care about members of his own family, I wonder why you showed up at the hospital.

[Ice rattling]

Shawn D.: I'm gonna go see if I can find some soda.

Belle: Okay.

Philip: It's good to see you two making nice.

Belle: [Chuckles] Well, it's been a long road for all of us.

Philip: Yeah. Yeah, it has. I'm happy the three of us are friends again.

Belle: Me too.

Philip: You and Shawn are happy, right?

Belle: Yeah, we are. I hope you're okay with that.

Philip: Yeah. It stings a little, but I'll get over it. I mean, come on, you're not that special.

Belle: Yeah. [Chuckles] Well, you are. I really hope you find the happiness you deserve.

Kate: Royal flush.

Steve: Oh! Man! I got to say -- I am impressed. I didn't know such an elegant woman like you could play so down and dirty.

Kate: You shouldn't be so surprised.

Steve: You just surprised me out of my winnings, didn't you?

Kate: Oh, come on. This is such an easy game. You just have to have the guts to go for it all. I've been doing that my entire life. This is child's play.

Stephanie: I see where Chelsea gets her strength.

Kate: Chelsea, her mother, and I -- we have all had to claw and scratch our way to higher ground. The three of us are survivors.

Nick: Chelsea definitely knows how to survive, and she always comes out stronger.

Stephanie: Her courage amazes me. Throughout that whole Ford Decker thing, when he was terrorizing us, she never backed down once.

Max: Yeah, she was like a rabid pit bull, man.

Stephanie: What?

Max: You know what I mean. I mean, she was like -- she wasn't -- whatever.

Steve: You know, I get what you're saying, and let me say something. That rabid pit bull is gonna kick butt in that operating room.

Nick: Exactly.

Steve: Am I right?

Nick: Exactly.

Steve: Right on.

Dr. Taylor: We have good hemostasis. I need to divide the pancreas. This is trickier than I anticipated.

Lexie: You're doing great, Doctor. Nice and steady.

Roman: I gave Sami an update. She wanted to come down, but I told her to say with the twins.

Hope: Good thinking. She has her hands full.

Roman: You know, when I see Ma and Victor together, I-I still can't help but think that should be Pop with her.

Hope: I know. They're bonding over Bo.

Roman: Yeah. I know. I know.

Hope: Roman, I think your Dad would actually be happy that your Mom has someone supporting her, being there for her.

Roman: I guess you're right. Yeah.

Hope: It's two parents comforting each other. Hey, their only focus is Bo.

Roman: You're right. That is why my brother is so lucky to have married such a smart woman.

Dr. Taylor: I believe we've got it. Take the pancreas section over to Dr. Jonas. I'm sure they feel like they've been waiting forever. Suture.

Nurse: Here's the pancreas section.

Daniel: Perfect timing. All right, people. Is this what they call miracle time?

John: I don't know why I was compelled to visit Bo in the hospital. Perhaps it was just morbid curiosity.

Marlena: Or maybe subconsciously you were worried about your friend.

John: Did you always analyze my motives?

Marlena: No. I always knew exactly what you were thinking.

John: Oh. Psychiatrist and a psychic.

Marlena: [Chuckles] Shucks. John, this pier has a very special meaning for us.

John: Did we get mugged here? [Chuckles]

Marlena: No, we didn't. We actually had been separated for a number of years, and we reunited right here on this spot. We had such a wonderful life together. Years ago, we'd be -- we had amazing adventures. We traveled the world. You wouldn't even believe the stories.

John: You really miss your life with the old me, don't you?

Marlena: I can't even say how much.

[Cellphone ringing]

John: Hello.

Paul: Mr. Black, it's Paul Hollingsworth.

John: What can I do for you?

Paul: I wanted to set up a meeting to discuss our arrangement concerning the Kiriakis shipments.

John: I'll have to get back to you.

Paul: Please make it soon. I'd like to clarify a few things.

John: I'll be in touch.

Marlena: Who was that?

Steve: Hey, Roman, come take my place, man.

Hope: Hey.

Steve: You seem to be doing all right.

Hope: I want to be strong for Shawn and Caroline. But inside, uh, I'm a mess.

Steve: That's okay. You're allowed to be a mess in front of me.

Hope: I keep making all these lists in my head of all the things I need to do. I need to keep my head out of the O.R., what's happening in there, because when I do let my mind start to wander, I start -- [Exhales sharply] I start thinking about the possibility that... things may not work out.

Steve: Okay, now, what did I tell you? You have to keep thinking positive, right?

Hope: I'm trying to. Sometimes I can't stop myself from going there.

Steve: When that happens, you come to me and I'll steer you in the right direction.

Hope: Thank you. You've always been such a good friend to Bo and me. Actually, I don't know how we'll ever be able to repay you.

Steve: Oh, $10s and $20s will do fine. I take personal checks, too.

Hope: Steve.

Steve: [Chuckles]

Nurse: Excuse me. Dr. Carver wanted you all to know that the pancreas section has been successfully removed and the doctors are closing Chelsea up now.

Max: That's great.

Roman: Okay.

Hope: Have they started surgery on my husband?

Nurse: Yes. And when we know more, someone will let you know.

Hope: Thank you. [Chuckles] He's gonna make it through this, Steve.

Steve: He will.

Hope: Will you pray with me?

Steve: Sure, Baby.

Hope: Heavenly Father... look with mercy on Bo.

Steve: And make this whole thing work out. When he's, uh, when he's out of there, he's gonna need a lot of healing. I hear you're good at that.

Hope: Let me hear his laugh again, feel his arms around me.

Steve: Come on, big dude. Make it happen. Please.

Hope: Amen.

John: That was Stefano's lawyer. More papers to sign. My brother's estate is endless.

Marlena: Maybe you should turn responsibility over to somebody else, hmm?

John: Not a chance.

Marlena: I thought you'd say that. Well, I think we should get back to the hospital.

John: More waiting.

Marlena: You'll keep me company, won't you?

John: Sure.

Marlena: I'm glad we went for this walk. I feel like we're beginning to communicate.

Roman: Well, okay. Chelsea's job is done. Now it's up to Bo's body not to reject the partial pancreas.

Kate: I'm just so relieved that Chelsea's okay.

Max: She's tough, man.

Stephanie: I can't wait to see her.

Nick: I honestly don't know what I would have done if she didn't make it.

Max: You two have a lot to celebrate now.

Nick: We do. I just -- I feel bad. I've been working so hard on this grant. I haven't been spending that much time with her, and I want to be a better boyfriend to her. I want her to know how much I love her.

Stephanie: She knows that already, but I'm sure she'd love to hear it, anyway.

Lexie: You did so well, Chelsea. You probably saved your father's life. You're a real hero. Dr. Taylor, do you think you can finish up on your own? I want to check on Bo.

Dr. Taylor: No problem.

Hope: Your sister came through for us.

Shawn D.: She's a Brady. How long before we know about Dad?

Steve: It could be a while. Kayla said this is the complicated part of the operation.

Belle: Even if it goes well, we'll still have to wait and see if his body will accept the transplant.

Hope: We just need to take it one step at a time. Your dad just needs to make it through.

Kayla: These veins didn't show up in the visceral angiogram.

Daniel: It makes it a little more challenging, but I like a good challenge. Needle holder.

Lexie: How's everything going in here?

Daniel: Slow, but we're making progress. You and Dr. Taylor did an awesome job.

Lexie: Thank you. Do you need my assistance?

Dr. Taylor: Well, stick around. This dance is far from over.

Philip: Wow, you're gonna be taking Claire. I'm never gonna see her again, am I?

Tony: What can I do for you?

Anna: I want him.

Chelsea: Is my dad okay?
