[Indistinct conversations]

Shawn D.: So, I guess we're supposed to be happy, right?

Belle: It's an Irish wake. I think it's a rule. Besides, I think it's what your grandpa would have wanted.

Shawn D.: Yeah.

Chloe: This is so sad.

Philip: It isn't meant to be sad. It's meant to be happy.

Chloe: Well, I don't see a lot of smiling faces.

Philip: You have to wait until after the toast, Chloe.

Chloe: Then let's toast.

Victor: The speech comes first and then the toast.

Chelsea: I just don't know if I can do this -- first the funeral, and now this.

Nick: From what I know of Grandpa Shawn, this is exactly what he would have wanted.

Maggie: He was an Irishman, through and through. The funeral was to mourn him, but this wake is to lift him to heaven with a smile.

Lexie: I've never been comfortable at these things.

Abe: I guarantee you'll feel comfortable once the celebration gets into full swing.

Steve: You gonna be all right, baby?

Kayla: My pop is gone.

Steve: I know. But this is his party. He wants us to be happy. He wants everybody he loved to drink and laugh and remember all the good things about his life.

Kayla: I know. You're right.

Steve: He was a good dude. Let's celebrate that.

E.J.: Samantha, I'm sorry. I just feel really out of place here.

Sami: You're a DiMera. Tough it out.

E.J.: Thanks. Thanks a lot. [Sighs]

Hope: You look white as a ghost.

Bo: I'm fine.

Hope: No.

Bo: What?

Hope: No, you're not.

Bo: Yes, I am.

Hope: No, I'm gonna take you back to the hospital. I'm gonna bring the car around.

Bo: Hope, I'm not going anywhere till after pop's toast.

Hope: Okay. I'll be right back. I'm gonna get you some food. Steve, excuse me just for a second. Listen, Bo's not doing so well, and he insists on staying for the toast. Just stay close in case I need you, okay?

Steve: You got it.

Caroline: [Sighs] I wish he were here. He's the one, you know, that should be giving the toast.

Roman: Yeah, well, you know what? Pop gave his family a lot of great things. One of those great things was the art of the Irish toast.

Max: Right. Yeah, and this one's for him, Ma. You know, he loved his family, and he knew how much we loved him. He's seen us cry. Now it's time to celebrate his life.

Caroline: Thanks, Roman. Thanks, Max. [Sighs]

Woman: Mr. DiMera?

Tony: Oh, I'm sorry. I've got a lot on my mind this morning. Good morning.

Woman: Good morning.

Tony: And might I say you look beautiful this morning?

Woman: Thank you.

Tony: Is that a new dress you're wearing?

Woman: I got it yesterday.

Tony: Oh, so that's why you wanted to leave a little early.

Woman: Is that a problem?

Tony: No, no, not at all. You work very hard. It's a perfect time for you to take a little time off.

Woman: Thank you, sir.

Tony: Please [Chuckles] Call me Tony.

Woman: They're sending out more copy from the new Black Welder Account.

Tony: Oh. Looks like we'll have to add a few more bodies to the staff.

Woman: Yes, sir.

Tony: Do you have any idea how the Lumberg Account is doing?

Woman: No, sir. But if you want me to look into it, I can.

Tony: No. No. No. I'll take care of that myself. Thanks.

Anna: [Sighs] [Telephone rings] Yes, sir.

Lumberg: Yeah, have you brought in any clients yet?

Anna: Oh, well, actually, I just walked in the door, sir. I thought I might clean the mess off my desk first.

Lumberg: Look, clean off your desk after you've brought in some clients. I wish I could say if you don't, I'll get someone who will, but, frankly, if you don't, I won't get anyone because we'll be out of business.

Anna: Oh, don't you worry, sir. I'll get the clients. We're gonna blow Tony DiMera's company out of the water. We're gonna show them how to run an add company and prove to them we've got what it takes.

Kimberly: Okay, everybody. Attention.

Roman: All right.

Kimberly: Attention, please.

Roman: A little attention for Kimberly.

Kimberly: Thanks, Roman. You know, there aren't enough words to really describe my pop. And since there aren't, I'm gonna try for a few. Let's see...he was loving, kind, strong. Oh, diligent. He was respectful, resourceful. He was very, very, very tenacious. And he was also affable. He was outgoing and, God, was he tender. Yeah. He would just -- he would be there for his friends and family whenever they needed him. Well, he could also be bullheaded, obstinate, stubborn, and very, very fiery. I mean, he was Irish. [Laughter] and, boy, nobody -- nobody could give a better Irish toast than my pop.

Roman: And as children, we heard a lot of them.

Kayla: We can't really do him justice, but I know that he is proud the way we're honoring him.

Roman: To pop. This -- this one, I think, is one of his favorites that I'm sure the entire family knows by heart. So, kind family and friends, please join me in rhyme.

Kayla: Come lift up your voices in chorus with mine.

Kimberly: Come drink and be merry, turning grief to good cheer.

Abe: Till we stand with him, again drawing near.

Bo: Here's health to his family and one to his lass. We hold up a pint and all share from one glass.

Max: Let us drink and be merry, turning grief to delight.

Marlena: Till that day when we see him and again hold him tight.

Shawn D.: Here's health to his lass that he adored without a doubt.

Belle: Their love and their bond he could not live without.

Chelsea: Never failing his friends, always there to give aid. Always leading his family as he knelt and he prayed.

Bo: His ship lies in harbor, waiting to sail. I pray for smooth seas and soft winds to prevail.

All: When we leave here to meet him, whether by land or by sea, I will never forget his affection for me.

Roman: To pop.

Bo: To you, Pop.

Shawn D.: Grandpa Shawn.

Caroline: Shawn.

Abe: Shawn.

Anna: Mr. Lumberg, um, I've just called everyone on our contacts list, and it seems that they're all clients of DiMera Advertising. So, I'm gonna run over there on my lunch hour and see what kind of operation they've got. Mr. Lumberg, are you there? [Sighs] Great. Now even the boss doesn't want to talk to me.

Tony: Ah, could you please call personnel? Tell them we need four more copy writers in tomorrow and -- no, you know what? Make that three more. And make sure that Tokomosato is promoted to project manager for all new accounts, will you? Thank you. Mm. This just doesn't seem right without you, Anna. You should be working with me. [Chuckles] I'm gonna take Anna out to lunch and surprise her. Don't expect me back for, well, a couple of hours, at least.

Roman: That was a nice, nice speech. I got to go back to the kitchen and check on some things.

Caroline: Kimberly. That was the best speech I ever heard.

Kimberly: Oh.

Caroline: I know your pop's beaming. After all, you were his best and brightest.

Kimberly: I sure do miss him.

Caroline: Yeah, I know. But he's always with you.

Kimberly: Mama.

Caroline: Yeah.

Kimberly: I never got to say goodbye.

Caroline: You couldn't be more wrong, darling. You just said the most beautiful goodbye. And I know he's looking down. He heard it. [Chuckles] He's looking down with love for every one of us... everyone.

Kimberly: Come here, Mama.

Kayla: You okay, Mom?

Caroline: Yes. Yes. I'm fine.

Kimberly: Kay, why don't you keep mom company? I want to go find my brothers.

Caroline: Yeah. Okay, honey.

Bo: We're supposed to be celebrating pop's life.

Hope: You were very blessed to have him raise you as his own.

Bo: Yeah. Should I feel blessed that he gave his life for me?

Hope: Yes. That was the man he was. Don't take that away from him. He knew exactly what he was doing when he gave up his oxygen for us. He was a hero. He died a hero.

Bo: I know that. [Chokes]

Hope: Steve. I need to get him to the hospital right away.

Steve: Go get the car. I'll bring him out.

Hope: Okay.

Steve: Take it easy. How you doing, dude?

Bo: [Straining] Never better.

Steve: Maybe you shouldn't have come, huh?

Bo: What, miss pop's wake?

Kimberly: Bo, are you all right?

Bo: Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. Fine. That was a really nice speech.

Kimberly: Thanks. I'm supposed to fly back to L.A. today, but I'm gonna cancel my flight.

Bo: No, Kimberly, please. Don't do that. It'll freak me out. I mean, if you stick around, it'll make me feel like things are...

Kimberly: Serious?

Bo: Yeah. Yeah. How am I supposed to get well if people are putting off their lives to sit around and stare at me? Come on. Don't do that.

Kimberly: I love you. And I really missed you.

Bo: I missed you, too. Let's not wait till, you know, there's another death before we see each other again, agreed?

Kimberly: Agreed.

Bo: Okay. Give me a kiss.

Hope: Could you help me get him to the --

Kimberly: I can help you.

Bo: No, no, no, I'm fine. Kimberly, go take care of mom, okay?

Kimberly: All right.

Tony: Knock. Knock. [Laughs]

Hope: Okay, careful. Here we are. Careful, Bo.

Bo: Hey, Fancy Face, will you do me a favor?

Hope: Sure.

Bo: I'm concerned about ma. I don't want her to worry about me. Will you stay here and cover for me, please? She needs as much help --

Hope: I'm coming to the hospital.

Bo: No, please. I'll feel an awful lot better if you just stay here.

Hope: Okay. Can you get him to the hospital?

Steve: Absolutely.

Hope: I want to go with you, but I'm going to stay here. But only because you're making me.

Bo: Okay.

Hope: Okay, I love you.

Bo: Thanks.

Steve: Okay, easy. There we go.

Hope: Thanks for doing this, Steve.

Steve: Don't even mention it.

Hope: You take care of him. Here are the keys.

Kayla: You know, Mom, I was just thinking that maybe you'd like to come stay with me and Steve for a while.

Caroline: Oh, no, honey. Thank you. I want to stay here. This is where Shawn and I belong. But he's gone.

John: So, are you having as much fun as I am?

Chloe: I don't think we're supposed to be having fun at a funeral.

John: Well, try telling that to them.

Chloe: I don't think that they're having fun. I think they're just covering their pain.

John: Covering pain. It's something I need to do a little more of.

Chloe: I didn't really know him that well.

John: Welcome to the club. I don't know anybody very well.

E.J.: Room for one more who feels a little out of place?

Kimberly: Hope? Hi. How's Bo?

Hope: Steve took him back to the hospital just to have him checked out. He's gonna be fine. I'm gonna meet him over there in just a bit.

Kimberly: Are you sure there's nothing I can do?

Hope: Not a thing, but thank you. He said he'd call if anything came up. He just wants to make sure that you don't miss your flight.

Kimberly: Well, as long as you guys call.

Hope: We're gonna call. He was just feeling a little dizzy. He's gonna be okay. Kimberly, it's so good to see you. I just wish to God it wasn't under these circumstances. I know Bo really wanted to spend some time with you and catch up.

Kimberly: Why don't you guys come to California? I have an extra bedroom.

Hope: You know what? I just may take you up on that. Have you, um, seen Lex?

Kimberly: Yeah, she's right over there.

Hope: Right in front of me. Honey, take care of yourself, and have a safe flight, okay?

Kimberly: Thank you.

Hope: Okay. Excuse me. Can I just borrow her for a second?

Lexie: Is it Bo?

Hope: I insisted Steve that take him to the hospital. The scary part is he didn't argue with me about it.

Lexie: Okay, I'm on my way.

Shawn D.: Mom, where's dad? He was gonna give a toast.

Hope: I had Steve take him back to the hospital.

Shawn D.: Is that where you're gonna go right now? Do you want me to go with you?

Hope: No, I want you to stay here, take care of your grandmother.

Shawn D.: Okay. I will.

Hope: I'll call you, honey.

Shawn D.: Okay.

Roman: I know.

Max: I miss him.

Roman: So, uh, baby brother, so do I.

Ava: So.

Hope: So? So?

Ava: I think it's time we met.

Hope: Who are you?

Ava: Do you love him?

Hope: Do I love who?

Ava: Steve Johnson. Do you love him?

Tony: "My dearest Anna. I came by to see if you would have lunch with me today, but, obviously, you're away from your desk. It's apparent your enormous work force takes the same breaks as you. If, perhaps, you can tear yourself away from such a successful firm as this, you may wish to join forces with me and DiMera Advertising. As always, Tony."

Secretary: Uh, may I help you?

Anna: Oh, you must be Tony's -- or Mr. DiMera's latest. I'm his ex.

Secretary: Well, um, I don't think you should be in here, Mrs. DiMera.

Anna: Oh, no, dear. I'm not just his ex-wife. I'm one of his ex-secretaries, or should I say one of a long list of ex-secretaries. Tony takes the term "dictation" to a whole new level. Has he given you the birth-control talk yet?

Secretary: What talk?

Anna: Oh, you know, the contraceptive talk. He'll prefer that you're on the pill, dear.

Secretary: Why?

Anna: Oh, my dear girl. I can't tell you how many assistants he's gotten pregnant. I lost count at five. So now, of course, he prefers to be much more careful. You know, one would think that perhaps he should just get a vasectomy, but, apparently, the only ones he wants near his equipment are those working directly under him. You know, when he first approached me, I thought, "I really need this job." He's not a bad-looking man, and since he told me that, uh, he would fire me if I didn't perform the duties required, well, I thought, "what the heck?" The problem is, he gets bored very easily. And after a month, he fired me anyway. Then he married me. [Voice breaking] And then he divorced me. Can you beat that?

Steve: You all right, Bo?

Bo: Yeah, yeah. Much better. I just -- guess I needed to lay down. Thanks.

Steve: You got it.

Bo: Why don't you head on back to the pub?

Steve: No. I think I'm gonna hang till your doctor gets here.

Bo: Come on. I'm okay.

Steve: I know. I'm still gonna hang.

Bo: Kayla needs you. She's trying to hold up ma all by herself. He was her pop, too, so go be with your wife.

Steve: As long as you're gonna be okay.

Bo: Would you get the hell out of here?

Steve: All right. I'll see you in a bit.

Bo: Yes, you will. Thanks.

Steve: Hey. Do me a favor. Take good care of him.

Nurse: I'm going to hook him up to the monitors right now. Okay, let's hook you up to the monitors. He's in arrest. [Monitor beeping] Dr. Carver!

Lexie: Get the crash cart! Come on. Come on, Bo. Come on.

Ava: Do you love Steve?

Hope: Yeah, I love him. Of course I do. Who are you?

Ava: Mm-hmm.

Hope: [Sighs]

E.J.: Excuse me. I'm sorry. I just wanted to say I'm very sorry for your loss. I don't believe we've met. I'm E.J. DiMera.

Kimberly: I know who you are.

E.J.: I see my reputation precedes me.

Kimberly: Yeah, it has.

E.J.: E-excuse me. I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude, but please don't judge me because of the behavior of my family.

Kimberly: No, I judge you because of what you personally did to Sami and to our family.

E.J.: I have made some mistakes, and I'm very sorry.

Kimberly: Well, takes a real man to admit he made mistakes. I hand you that. My plane leaves soon.

Caroline: Oh. I guess you need to go. That's it.

Kimberly: You know I don't want to.

Caroline: Well, do you have a choice?

Kimberly: Sure I do, Ma. I could, um -- I could take some time off and -- and I could come live with you for a while.

Caroline: Oh, honey, what would your husband say to that?

Kimberly: He would understand. He knows that you and pop are the most important people in the world to me. And now that it's just you, you need somebody here.

Caroline: Oh, honey, I've got Max, I've got Roman, I've got Kayla. They're all within shouting distance. Oh, Kim, I love you very, very much, but you need to go back to your home.

Kimberly: [Voice breaking] I love you, too, Mama.

Caroline: Oh, honey.

Kayla: I love you. Come back soon.

Kimberly: Okay, I love you, sis. And, uh, you know, if, uh...this gal needs anything, you give me a call 'cause she's too stubborn to call.

Kayla: I will.

Caroline: And there's nothing wrong with that.

Kimberly: No. No, there's nothing wrong with it. Marlena.

Marlena: Oh, Kim, honey.

Roman: So, Kim, Kim, you heading out?

Kimberly: Yep. Got to go, leave.

Max: I don't want you to leave. Stay here. You don't have to get back, at least right away.

Kimberly: I wish that were true, but I put some things on hold, and they're not gonna hold much longer.

Roman: Well, that's life now. I understand that.

Max: So do I, but I just don't want to.

Kimberly: I love you, Max, and I love you, too, big brother. And I will be back. I can promise you that.

Roman: When does your plane leave?

Kimberly: Soon.

Roman: Well, better get going then.

Kimberly: Yeah.

Roman: I love you.

Kimberly: I love you, too. Come here, sport. Okay, sport. Take good care.

Max: All right.

Caroline: Oh.

Kayla: Safe flight.

Kimberly: Thanks.

Roman: Bye, Kim.

Kimberly: Bye, everybody.

Anna: Oh. [Scoffs]

Tony: What are you doing?

Secretary: I'm quitting. That's what I'm doing.

Tony: Might I ask why? Did I do something?

Secretary: Not yet you didn't.

Tony: Am I going to?

Secretary: When were you gonna give me the birth-control talk?

Tony: Well, I thought you would have had that talk when you were in sixth grade.

Secretary: "Sixth grade"? You pervert.

Tony: What did I say?

Secretary: You don't have to say anything. I quit.

Lexie: Come on, Bo. Come on. Come on, Bo. Come on, Bo.

Bo: [Coughs]

Lexie: Oh, thank God we've got him back. Hook him up to a monitor. Start an I.V.

Ava: [Smooches] So, you love Patch. It's a big, big mistake.

Hope: I know how much it meant to be at your pop's wake. [Voice breaking] But I never should have let you go. [Footsteps approaching]

Shawn D.: Hey, what happened?

Chelsea: Is he okay?

Hope: He went into cardiac arrest. Thank God he's okay. He's stable now, but, damn it, I shouldn't have let him go. I should have insisted that he stay here.

Shawn D.: He had to say goodbye to grandpa.

Hope: I know. I know.

Chelsea: Hope, what's wrong with my dad?

Shawn D.: Haven't they gotten the damn test results back yet?

Lexie: Yes, we have. [Irish music plays]

Steve: Abe. Can I talk to you about that favor?

Abe: Tell me what it is first.

Steve: I have a name for you. Ava Vitali. V-I-t-a-l-I. Can you run it through the police computer?

Abe: Why?

Steve: As a favor.

Abe: That's it. As a favor.

Steve: Yeah.

Abe: All right. I'll do it... just once.

Caroline: [Sighs] Well, I've never known Victor Kiriakis to be at a loss for words.

Victor: Well, maybe I just have too many words. I don't know which ones to use.

Caroline: Well, "I'm sorry, Caroline," seems to be the phrase of the day.

Victor: Well, you know that I am...in so many ways. You lost him as a husband. I lost him as a friend many, many years ago. But I never stopped caring for him.

Caroline: Well, you know I always loved him.

Victor: Yes. I know you chose him over me. I hated that at the time, but, looking back, it was probably the wise move.

Caroline: I was in love with two men. I knew I had to build my life with just one man. And that man had to be Shawn.

Victor: Well, I'm just glad to hear that you loved me once.

Caroline: I did. But it was wrong.

Victor: Something wonderful came out of it.

Caroline: Bo. Our wonderful Bo.

Victor: Yes. Shawn loved him. He gave his life for him, for our son. He was more Shawn's son than he was mine.

Caroline: [Exhales deeply]

Max: [Clears throat]

Roman: All right. Everybody, listen up.

Max: Can I, uh, have all your attention? Um... I loved pop. You know, he was a hell of a man. And... he, uh... you know, growing up, I always asked a lot of questions. You know, and he always seemed to have an answer. You know? And it wasn't something he made up or some spur-of-the-moment answer just to make him look smart and placate his kid. Um, it was the God's honest truth, you know, 'cause that's the type of man he was. You know, he was good, he was strong, and he was honest. Um... he made me feel good. He made me feel very special. And I know I can't top Kimberly's speech, but I want to toast the man who took me in, who loved me, and raised me with an old Irish toast of my own. [Clears throat] Cruel death. The young leaves droop in anguish. The evening's breeze will restore. The morning sunrise mocks my anguish. Time for him won't blossom nevermore. Um, to pop.

Roman: To pop.

Marlena: Hear, hear.

Steve: Papa Brady.

Abe: Shawn.

Max: All right, well, no more tears. Let's have this wake how pop would want us to have it. Hmm?

Roman: Good idea.

Max: Let's do it.

Roman: All right, here we go.

Anna: Okay, maybe I went a little too far. [Laughter]

Belle: Okay, okay. I also remember one of Grandpa Shawn's toasts, too, so bear with me. Here we go. [Clears throat] All heaven's wishes at your command. God and his angels, they're close at hand. Friends and family, their love doesn't part. Great Irish blessings to you we impart.

Kayla: Very nice. Good job. Good job.

Roman: All right. All right. I got one.

Kayla: Uh-oh.

Roman: I got one.

Kayla: Trouble.

Roman: [Laughs]

Marlena: Don't sing.

Roman: Okay, some say your glass is half full. Some say your glass is half empty. The Irish say, "are you gonna drink that?" [Laughter]

Philip: I got one. May the Lord hold you in his hand, but never clench his fist too hard. [Cheers]

E.J.: Very good. That's right. I got a couple of good ones. I don't know if they're worth repeating. Actually, I don't know if I can repeat them.

Marlena: Go ahead. Oh, come on.

E.J.: All right, all right. Okay. All right. If you don't mind, I'm gonna borrow a little bit from your native tongue. [Clears throat] [Irish accent] So, now, if you drink, right, sure enough you're gonna get drunk. And if you're drunk, well, eventually, sure you're gonna fall asleep. And if you're asleep, I can tell you right now, you cannot commit a sin. And if you can't commit a sin, you're going straight to heaven. So, let's get drunk and go to heaven. [Cheers and laughter]

Max: All right, let's hear the other one.

E.J.: [Normal voice] The other one? Oh, okay. Um... why did God give the Irish whiskey?

Belle: Why?

E.J.: So they'd stay on that bloody island and not conquer the world. [Laughter]

Nick: An Irishman is never too drunk as long as he can hold onto a blade of grass and not fall off the edge of the world. [Laughter]

Belle: That's true.

E.J.: Way to go, Nick.

Maggie: Profound.

Victor: Fathers, hold your children's hand for just a little while, but hold their hearts forever.

All: Aww.

Max: Okay.

Caroline: Well, I have one.

Maggie: Okay.

Caroline: All right? Let the sound of Irish music and the lilt of Irish laughter fill your hearts with gold and gladness that will last for ever after. [Cheering]

Hope: Tell us.

Shawn D.: What did the tests say?

Lexie: [Sighs] His pancreas is starting to shut down little by little, but there's no mistaking it.

Chelsea: So what does that mean?

Lexie: It means... if it shuts down altogether, he'll die.

Marlena: Give the money away. It's blood money.

John: That's not gonna happen anyway. I was wondering if you would help me.

Sami: E.J., the only thing I want to talk to you about is how quickly we can get that annulment.

Victor: What's happening with Bo?

Lexie: We don't know.

Tony: I wonder if you'll ever know the extent of your evil.
