Bo: Hey, man. Where's Hope?
Roman: Well, she wanted to be with you, but she's worn out, so she's getting some sleep.
Bo: Good. That's good.
Roman: How you feeling?
Bo: Like a million pennies.
Roman: That good, huh?
Bo: What's up?
Roman: Well, the NTSB is gonna want to talk to you about the plane. I'm holding them off for the time being, but, uh. . . I'd like to talk to you about what happened if you feel up to it.
Bo: Fire away.
Roman: Okay. What happened?
Bo: The radios went out. The controls went out. The pilots went out. And we crashed.
Roman: You were up there a long time, though, after the pilot passed out.
Bo: Yeah. Steve and John did the best they could to give us a safe landing.
Roman: Well, you know what they say.
Bo: Any landing you can walk away from is a good one.
Roman: Yeah. But you didn't walk away from it.
Bo: No, because of the crash.
Roman: Yeah, I know. And Pop didn't walk away from it at all.
Bo: [Voice breaking] No.
Roman: But that wasn't because of the crash, either.
Bo: You're right.
Roman: Damn, he was a good man, Bo.
Bo: Yeah. The best.
Kayla: Hey. How you feeling?
Steve: Hey. You first.
Kayla: Okay. I'm okay.
Steve: And the little peanut?
Kayla: The baby's fine, too. Now you.
Steve: Well, I feel like I'm ready to get back in the ring. Who's my next opponent?
Kayla: It's me. You know, take it easy.
Steve: Hmm. Pow.
Steve: You know, the truth is, I just want to lie around all snuggled up with you for about a month.
Kayla: Hmm, sounds good.
Steve: So, listen, baby, why don't you go back to your room like a good girl? Maybe they'll spring us both.
Kayla: Are you gonna be good?
Steve: Am I ever anything but? [Chuckles]
Kayla: I love you.
Steve: I love you, too, sweetheart. [Door closes]
Ashley: You know what this is all about, don't you?
Slone: Sit down.
Ashley: So, do you know why we're all here?
Chelsea: Well, I'm guessing it has something to do with me talking to the police.
Morgan: Chelsea, we all talked to the police. You're just the only one who blabbed about what happened.
Slone: But we all took an oath we wouldn't talk.
Ashley: You might be off the hook with the cops, Chelsea, but you're not off the hook with us.
Stephanie: Can't you guys see what Chelsea went through? She is the one who felt the most responsible for Ford's death. The guilt ate at her. I mean, you guys didn't even have to deal with half the stuff that we went through. What Ford did --
Ashley: We're not talking about what Ford did.
Cordy: Why do you think we were covering for Chelsea? We all hated him, especially you and me, Steph. No one was gonna believe that we weren't guilty.
Morgan: Yeah, and we might have been guilty of a few things but not murder.
Carmen: I wasn't sorry to see him die. I was scared. We all were.
Chelsea: You know what? What I did was wrong. I should have come to you guys.
Cordy: You have to trust us. We're your sisters.
Chelsea: "Are" or "were"?
Ashley: Well, we've talked about it. You did what you thought was right. What Stephanie and Cordy went through was horrible.
Slone: Ford was evil, and you did something I'm not sure any of us could have done.
Ashley: You took him on, and put yourself in real danger.
Carmen: It wasn't your fault that he died. Looking back, you know, what you did and what we all let happen -- it must have been eating at you, and you told the truth.
Morgan: And, once again, you had the most to lose. I kind of admire that.
Slone: No, Morgan, we do admire that.
Chelsea: So ...
Ashley: So what we're saying is we want to put all this behind us and get back to focusing on our classes.
Morgan: And back to being friends and sisters.
[Knock on door]
Shawn D. : Hey, is it okay to come in?
Bo: Yeah, get in here. All of you.
Shawn D.: How you doing, big guy?
Bo: Oh, pretty good.
Belle: Yeah, you look a lot better.
Bo: Oh, yeah, thanks. [Laughter]
Bo: Hey, Claire, how you doing? You happy to be home?
Claire: Yes, it's so much warmer. [Laughter]
Bo: Come here and give me a hug, would you?
Belle: Give Grandpa a hug.
Bo: Come on, you can do it. Ah, yeah. That's the medicine I needed.
Shawn D.: There's somebody else here that wants to see you.
Caroline: Hi, Bo.
Bo: Hey, Ma.
Kayla: You know, I should helping you.
Steve: No. What are you talking about?
Kayla: Let me take your arm.
Steve: I'm a fine figure of a man.
Kayla: But you were a man who was just in a plane crash. Come on, now.
Steve: Well, I tell you what, if I was having our baby, I would let you take my arm and help me to the couch.
Kayla: Oh, all right.
Steve: Yeah, sit right down there.
Kayla: Okay thank you very much. Thank you.
Steve: Okay. Now you're gonna snuggle up with me. [Groans]
Kayla: Yes, a fine figure of a man. [Steve exhales deeply]
Steve: So, what do you want to do?
Kayla: I want to sit right here in my home with the man I love.
Kayla: You know, Steve. . . you were gonna say something to me last night.
Steve: I was?
Steve: Uh. . . well, I don't remember. I guess I was pretty out of it, though, huh? Well, listen, we got to get you lying down. Come on. Let's go.
Kayla: No, no. I want to stay right here. I want to stay on the couch.
Steve: Okay. I'll make you a deal, then. If you lie down on the couch, I'll go get us something to eat.
Kayla: It's a pretty good deal. Okay.
Steve: All right. There we go. Cover you up here.
Steve: Got to keep nice and warm.
Steve: I love you.
Bo: Hey, Ma.
Belle: Here, Claire Bear. It's time to get down. Come on. That's a big girl.
Caroline: I am so glad that you're here.
Bo: I wish Pop were here.
Roman: Do you want to talk about it, Ma?
Caroline: Well, I think we should.
Belle: Uh, Claire Bear, what do you say we go for a walk?
Claire: I want to stay here.
Belle: Well, but we need to check out all the vending machines and see if they have any candy left.
Claire: All right. [Shawn chuckles]
Belle: All right. We'll be back.
Bo: Pop died because of me.
Caroline: Tell me about it, Bo.
Bo: Well, there wasn't enough oxygen.
Roman: Apparently, the plane was stuck in an altitude where the air was too thin to keep anybody alive. And the plane had structural damage, and it lost all the pressure in the cabin. Is that about right?
Shawn D.: We had to use the oxygen masks.
Bo: The problem was there wasn't enough oxygen to last as long as we were at that altitude. And, uh. . . Pop kept saying how he had a. . . a long, good life, and that it was time for him to go. And, of course, I wasn't -- I wasn't gonna let him. So, uh, you know, I made sure that he had an oxygen mask. We were sharing one. But, um, I passed out. And Hope and Kayla -- they put the mask on me, and they tried to make sure that Pop was breathing, too, but -- [Exhales raggedly] . . . He knew that there wasn't enough. . . for all of us, and so. . . you know, he just refused to take any more.
Shawn D. : Grandpa died so that his family could live.
Roman: Here you go, Ma. Why don't you have a seat here?
Bo: It's my fault. Pop died because of me.
Caroline: Oh, Bo, don't say that. Your father -- he made a choice. He'd do anything for his children, just -- you -- I mean, you'd do anything for Shawn. You would give up your life for Shawn. So don't feel guilty about what happened.
Shawn D.: Dad, I know that you would sacrifice your life for mine, just the same way that I would sacrifice my life for Claire. I think any real father would have done the same thing that Grandpa Shawn did, so don't take that away from him.
Caroline: No. Just accept it as a gift.
Bo: The thing is, Ma, I'm sick. I could be dying. What if Pop did this for nothing?
Lexie: He did not do it for nothing.
Steve: So, it was you in Ireland, huh?
Ava: You saw me -- you saw me at the airport, huh? I was hoping you'd know it was me. [Groaning]
Steve: Ugh! [Groaning]
Ava: Oh. Did you get a little angry there? Was that from the crash?
Steve: [Breathing heavily] Some things never change.
Ava: Yeah, but some things do.
Steve: What are you doing here? What do you want?
Ava: You never said goodbye, Patch. Or should I call you Steve? That is your real name, isn't it?
Steve: Wha -- okay. [Groans] If that's all you wanted, Ava... ...goodbye. Ugh!
Ava: It's too little. It's too late.
Ava: You said you loved me. You said you wanted me to have your baby.
Steve: I'm sorry. I'm not that person anymore.
Ava: Well, then, it looks like...the new Steve is gonna have to pay for the old Patch's mistake.
Steve: What do you want from me?
Ava: I want you back.
Steve: Well... you got a funny way of showing it.
Ava: Oh, come on. A few little cracked ribs -- it's no big deal. Anyway, I'm not sorry that you're suffering. You need to suffer -- the way that I suffered for all those years. I'm gonna get you back.
Steve: So... you had your people screw with the plane, huh?
Ava: Look, they messed up. They were just supposed to keep it from taking off, and, I'll tell you, I was a little bit surprised when it did, because I went all the way to Ireland to get you. It just flew away.
Steve: You admit it? You had your people tamper with the plane?
Ava: They got carried away, in the wrong direction. It happens. Anyway, you didn't die. I'm so glad.
Steve: Yeah, I didn't die. I didn't die, but others did!
Steve: What's the matter with you? Are you really that crazy?
Ava: You know, daddy doesn't like me to get out of the house much. But sometimes I get away. I got all the way to Ireland. And I got out today. That's pretty good for me, huh? [Chuckles]
Steve: You're sick.
Ava: Why don't you just come with me? Come on. Ugh!
Steve: You keep away from my family.
Ava: It's not over.
Ashley: Chelsea, let us know if there's anything you need.
Chelsea: Thank you. So it's back to life as we know it, then?
Carmen: Nope. We need to start thinking about what we're gonna do when we get out of school.
Stephanie: What's that?
Carmen: A list of available internships. We can get a jump on our careers through one of those companies in Salem.
Morgan: All right, y'all. I want to go -- motorcycles.
Lexie: You are not dying -- not on my watch.
Bo: Come on. You don't know what's wrong with me.
Lexie: I'll find out.
Bo: What if it's terminal?
Lexie: Let's not go there. It's way too soon. Uh, would you all mind giving us a few minutes? I'd like a word alone with my patient.
Caroline: All right.
Bo: I'm sorry, Ma.
Caroline: Don't you ever say that again. I'm proud of your father. He died a hero. I love you. So now be a good boy. [Chuckles] You listen to your doctor. I'll be right outside.
Roman: [Exhales deeply] All right. Listen to me. You are strong-willed, and you're very bullheaded, but you're gonna make it through this. Do I have your word on it?
Bo: I can give you my word, but what if I don't? What are you gonna do then?
Roman: I'll meet you in heaven and kick the hell out of you.
Roman: I love you, little brother.
Shawn D.: You know, Grandpa Shawn didn't die for nothing. He died so you could live. And how that man knew, I have no idea. But he did. So believe that, okay, Dad?
Chelsea: Here's one. "Local news station is looking for a conscientious production assistant intern." [Doorbell rings]
Stephanie: What's the web address?
Chelsea: www. --
Stephanie: I know the www part. You don't have to tell me every time.
Chelsea: I'm sorry. Hey.
Stephanie: I'm really sorry about your dad.
Chelsea: You know... I don't really know what I'm supposed to say... or do. I'm not really good at the whole -- at this kind of thing. I'm sorry. I'm gonna go check on my dad.
Max: Thank you. You know, I never really got a chance to say goodbye to him. My final words to him were, "I'm busy. I got to go to work." [Clears throat] How's that for your final words to say goodbye to your dad?
Stephanie: You don't think he knew how much you loved him?
Max: No, I knew he knew, but they weren't my final words.
Stephanie: It doesn't matter. Every minute of every day, he knew how much you loved him, Max. Those words and thoughts were with him always. He knew that as he took his last breath. Look, you loved him, and he loved you.
Kayla: Well, what'd you get?
Steve: Uh, burgers -- cheeseburgers. Extra pickles.
Steve: And no mustard. I got chocolate shakes -- extra whipped cream. There's your straw -- right there.
Kayla: You get fries?
Steve: Yeah. Fries, extra crispy.
Kayla: Ooh, extra crispy. Mmm.
Steve: That's the only way they make them at Buddy's Burger Barn. [Thudding] Hey. What the hell was that?
Kayla: I don't know. I think somebody's taking salsa-dancing lessons upstairs. It's been going on since you left. How's the pain in your ribs?
Steve: Uh, you know, come to think of it, I think the pills ran out.
Kayla: I'll get you some more.
Steve: No, no. Let me get them. I'll get them. [Door locks]
Kayla: Expecting trouble?
Bo: He was a good father.
Caroline: He loved you as a son. For a long time, he thought you were his son. You two butted heads so often when you were younger 'cause you're both so stubborn. Broke his heart when you went off to the Merchant Marine. When he found out that Victor was your father... I think it made him realize how much he really loved you, because... it didn't matter. All that mattered was your father/son bond.
Bo: You know, I didn't see a change in him when he found out.
Caroline: [Inhales, exhales deeply] I did. Why, he was so mad at me. Irish mad. Well, I can't blame him. [Exhales sharply] I thought he'd never forgive me, but -- if he'd done that to me, I -- yeah, but...he wouldn't. He was loyal. Yeah. Generous and strong and... [Sniffles] ...Hardworking. There's a whole list of things your father was. I can just go on and on, you know.
Bo: Do you know I remember when I asked him if Santa Claus was real? What was I, 18 or 19?
Caroline: [Chuckling] Oh, stop. [Sniffles]
Bo: He took me out on the front steps and, you know, we just talked. And there was a sadness in his voice. But there was also -- oh, I guess it was an excitement... [Voice quivers] ...To know that his little boy was growing up.
Caroline: Sweetie. Yeah.
Bo: Uh, when we were finished, uh... he just put his arm around me, and we sat there, looking out at the water and the... boats going by. I don't know why I remember that.
Caroline: Oh, I remember that day, too, you know, because when he came, his eyes were all watery, and I asked him, "what happened?" And he [Sniffles] he told me. I think he knew that there wouldn't be any more little Tykes running around, you know? That was the end of an era for our family.
Bo: He saw the world in you, Ma. I mean, he worked his tail off to raise us the best he could.
Caroline: That's true.
Bo: And he was, you know, kind of excited to see us go off on our own. 'Cause then he knew he could devote more time to you.
Bo: But... he was always our pop.
Caroline: Well, he told me that that was his job, you know, to be a good father.
Caroline: To always be there for his children -- no matter how old they were.
Bo: [Sniffles] He was, uh -- he was there for me at the end.
Caroline: Oh, Bo. Bo. He's there for you now. He is. And he's there for Roman, Kayla, Kimberly. He's there for all of his grandchildren.
Bo: And he'll always be there for you, too.
Caroline: Oh, Bo. It's all right. It's gonna be all right.
Morgan: Oh, my God, Max. I don't know how you're handling it as well as you are.
Max: Well, I'm not handling it very well. I, uh, I just wish I could have been there with him when he went.
Stephanie: I don't think it would have made it any better.
Max: Maybe not, but maybe the, uh, few hours or days I could have had would have meant a lot.
Max: I wish I was the one who was sharing the mask.
Morgan: Then you could have died.
Max: Maybe that would have been better.
Stephanie: Don't say that. Max, your dad led a full life.
Max: Why does everybody keep saying that -- that he was old and that I'm young? The truth of the matter is, is he was a much better man than I would ever be.
Stephanie: That is not true. Max, you are an amazing guy, and you have many more years to become even better.
Morgan: I know you have to grieve, Max. I know you have to cry.
Stephanie: It's okay. We're here for you.
Max: [Sniffles] Look, I'm sorry. [Clears throat]
Stephanie: For what?
Max: For being such a wuss.
Stephanie: Any normal person would feel this way in this situation.
Morgan: I know you, Max. You loved your father just as much as he loved you.
Stephanie: I want to go check on my parents.
Max: Okay. I'll be fine. Hey, Steph... thank you.
Kayla: Tsk. Oh. [Exhales deeply] You know, my pop -- he was the best dad a girl could ever ask for.
Steve: And he was, baby.
Kayla: You know, he was just so kind and loving. I always knew that he would protect us. [Exhales sharply]
Steve: Your pop went out on his own terms, saving the people he loves. [Inhales, exhales deeply] And what he did -- I'd do that for you and Stephanie. You know that, don't you?
Kayla: Of course, I do.
Steve: You two mean everything to me.
Kayla: I know. [Thudding] Why are you so jumpy?
Steve: I don't know. It's probably just leftover adrenaline from the plane crash.
Kayla: Well, you don't need to worry, because we are home... and we are safe.
Steve: We are safe, baby. Listen, why don't you go in the bedroom, lie down where it's nice and quiet? I'll come in and join you.
Kayla: Do you mind if I pile on some extra blankets?
Steve: No. I'd like a nice, toasty nap with you.
Kayla: Okay. [Door closes]
Steve: [Exhales deeply]
Morgan: You know Stephanie loves you... and she trusts you?
Max: Yeah. There's no reason she shouldn't.
Morgan: I wouldn't let you out of my sight, especially not with me.
Max: You're a good girl. I like you. I always have.
Morgan: But you don't love me, do you? Don't answer that. I can't say that makes me happy, but...I understand. And...I'm ready to move on... as friends.
Max: [Chuckles] Come here. I'm glad. And I don't want to lose you as a friend.
Bo: How long is this gonna take?
Lexie: We're going to be running the gamut, so it could take a while.
Bo: All right. Once you get the results, you're gonna tell me the truth, right?
Lexie: I'll always tell you the truth.
Bo: Okay. What's the worst-case scenario?
Lexie: Okay. I may always tell you the truth, but I won't always answer your questions.
Bo: That bad, huh?
Lexie: Don't put words in my mouth. Look, the truth is we don't know what's wrong with you.
Bo: Will you tell me when you've narrowed it down? [Coughs]
Lexie: Well, it depends on how confident I am that we've actually narrowed it down. But, yes, I will be absolutely honest with you.
Bo: Okay. The thing is, you got to tell me before you tell my family.
Lexie: Okay. Okay.
[Lock rattling] [Gun cocks]
Stephanie: Geez. It's harder getting in here than it is a safe.
Steve: Hello, sweetness.
Stephanie: Mwah! You okay?
Steve: Yeah. Never better.
Stephanie: How many broken ribs?
Steve: Oh, who's counting?
Stephanie: And how is mom?
Steve: Oh, she's doing great. She's just resting in the bedroom. She'd like to see you.
Stephanie: Yes! Papa...
Stephanie: I love you.
Steve: I love you, too.
Stephanie: I know.
On the next Days of our Lives --
Belle: How are you handling all this about Lucas?
Stephanie: Papa, I really wish you'd tell me what's going on.
Abe: John and I have unfinished business -- police business.
