E.J.: That's a lot of shoes. Maybe if you took something out. Did you pack everything for the twins?

Sami: Yes.

E.J.: Did you pack everything for the twins?

Sami: Why don't you let me worry about the twins? You focus on yourself. Do you really need all this?

Sami: Can you tell me for sure how long we're gonna be hiding from your father?

E.J.: No.

Sami: Well, then, I got another suitcase.

E.J.: Samantha, you don't need a suitcase. We're going into hiding, not on holiday. We don't have Sherpas and a van downstairs. It's just what we can carry.

Sami: Okay. Then I better make the phone call to the pediatrician. I need to make an appointment for the twins in the morning.

E.J.: Samantha, you can't do that.

Sami: Are you kidding me? We don't know how long we're gonna be gone. I need to take the twins to see the doctor before we go.

E.J.: I'm sorry. You do not. You're not going out in public. It's dangerous.

Sami: I get to decide what's safe enough for my twins. They need to see a doctor. And while we're at it, I think we should establish some ground rules here.

E.J.: Oh. Okay. Ground rules, huh?

Sami: Starting with when you are not helping me with the twins, I want you to stay as far away from me as possible.

Lucas: I don't know how much longer I can stay cooped up in here.

Stefano: Then get someone to post bail for you.

Lucas: Philip's lawyers are working on it.

Stefano: Well, then, you don't have much say in the matter, do you? So, relax. Make yourself a peanut-butter sandwich or whatever it is you people like.

Lucas: You know what, man? You're really getting on my nerves.

Stefano: [Laughs] Then find another cell to pace.

Lucas: Listen to you giving me a hard time about not posting bail. What about you? What about you, Mr. Almighty? Why don't you spend some money and get yourself out of here?

Belle: Claire. Claire!

Philip: Shh. Take it easy. You're just dreaming.

Belle: What about my dad? Was that a dream?

Philip: No. Your father's alive.

Belle: Have they found Claire?

[Indistinct conversations in distance]

[Claire whimpering]

Crystal: It's okay.

Hope: Here you go. Two sugars, three creams.

Marlena: Oh, Hope, thank you.

Hope: Don't mention it. My pleasure.

Marlena: Any word from Bo or Roman?

Hope: No, no. Actually, I think they're following up a few leads right now.

Marlena: [Sighs] Poor Claire. They have to find her.

Hope: Well, if anyone could do it, it's definitely them. Roman said he was gonna check in with us about John's situation later.

Marlena: John is not a situaĖ

Hope: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to --

Marlena: No, no, no. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm just getting carried away by my emotions. Look, I know that I should just back up and keep some distance on this. That's what's best for John. It's just very hard for me to do.

Hope: Of course it is. Actually, I'm amazed at how calm and in control you are.

Marlena: I know a lot about the human brain. I studied it for years. And that knowledge is going to prove invaluable to us. I was also held captive by Stefano, so I know what John's been going through. So, I can now forgive him if he says or does anything that he doesn't mean.

Hope: That's very accepting.

Marlena: Yeah, well, that's what is. That isn't John in there, you know. It just isnít. When I saw him talking to Belle, I thought, "you know what? This is gonna be easy." That was until he tried to break out. Now I think we're in this for the long haul.

Hope: And you'll do whatever that takes.

Marlena: I will never stop fighting for him.

Marlena: [Echoing] John.

John: Doc...

Stefano: Lawyers are a funny breed.

Lucas: Yeah, that's true, but it doesn't answer my question.

Stefano: My lawyers could get you out of here in less than 24 hours.

Lucas: What about you? Why don't they do that for you?

Stefano: Well, as I just said, lawyers are a funny breed.

Lucas: Let's just say, for argument's sake, that I take you up on your offer, and your lawyers, they free me by morning. Then I'm indebted to you, right? What the hell do I have to do to pay off that debt?

Stefano: You make it sound so manipulative.

Lucas: Manipulative? Stefano DiMera? No, you don't know how to do that, do you?

Stefano: Lucas, my proposal is simple.

Jailer: Stefano DiMera.

Stefano: Ah.

Jailer: Your lawyers are here to see you.

Stefano: We will finish this little discussion as soon as I'm back to our little home away from home.

Lucas: Yeah. I know exactly what happens to people who make deals with Stefano DiMera.

Marlena: John. Are you okay?

John: I had a dream.

Marlena: Tell me.

John: It was about you.

Philip: You weren't dreaming about your father. But Claire, she isn't here. She's still missing.

Belle: I was having a nightmare. She was right in front of me. She was screaming for me, and I couldn't get her. I don't know what's worse, the nightmare or not knowing where she is.

Philip: Hey, you will see her, and you will hold her. She's gonna be back in your arms before you know it.

Belle: I'm gonna go find her.

Philip: You're not gonna do anything until you get better. You're not gonna be any good to her if you're sick in bed.

Belle: I've been in bed long enough. My daughter is missing.

Philip: And the police are looking for her. And Shawn's out there, too. He will not come back without her.

Belle: I'm going to look for her.

Philip: Listen to me. I mean it. You're not gonna do anything until you get better. When she gets back, you can take care of her. But until then, you need to at least try and get some sleep.

Belle: I don't want to sleep.

Philip: I'm gonna call the nurse. Maybe they can get some help for you.

Belle: No. No. I don't want anybody to give me anything. I don't want to be drugged when they bring her here. Or if my father comes back, I want to be awake for that. [Coughing]

Philip: What do you need me to do? Do you want me to call a nurse? You got yourself worked up.

Belle: [Gasping, coughing]

Philip: Take a sip of water. Okay.

Belle: [Sighs] Thank you.

Philip: Is that better?

Belle: Yeah.

Philip: You look absolutely... exhausted, sweetie.

Belle: So do you. I think your work's probably piling up. You should go.

Philip: No, work can wait. It's not as important as being here. I wouldn't be able to focus, anyway. This is where I want to be. Unless you don't want me here.

Belle: Stop. Stop being so great. It's just making me feel worse.

E.J.: Samantha, it sounds like you want to hide from me, not with me. Do you want to do this on your own?

Sami: It's hardly about what I want. I'm just doing what I think is best. And right now, I just want to help us all avoid an uncomfortable situation.

E.J.: There's not gonna be an uncomfortable situation. We're staying in a house surrounded by all of your father's men. I'm not gonna do anything.

Sami: Good. Well, then, we have an understanding, right?

E.J.: Sure. [Baby crying]

Sami: Um... your turn.

E.J.: Okay.

[Cellphone rings]

Sami: Hello?

Lucas: Sami, it's me. Don't hang up.

Sami: What do you want, Lucas?

Lucas: I want to know why you haven't returned any of my lawyers' phone calls.

Sami: Well... I'm really busy dealing with a whole mess of my own problems now.

Lucas: Look, I know I screwed up, but I did it for you.

Sami: You didn't trust me to handle this, Lucas.

Lucas: I made a mistake, all right? I can see that now. And I'd take it back if I could, but I canít.

Sami: And now we're stuck like this...apart.

Lucas: Yeah, well, it's obvious I'm not gonna change the way you feel about me. How's Allie? I mean, I-I really miss her.

Sami: She's doing great, Lucas.

Lucas: And I miss you, too.

Sami: Allie's okay. You don't have to worry.

Lucas: Can you at least bring her over here to visit me or something?

Sami: No, I canít.

Lucas: Why not? She's my daughter. I have a right to see her.

Sami: I'm not trying to be mean, Lucas, but I'm taking the twins someplace safe from Stefano.

Lucas: Where are you going? Where do you think you're going? Where are you taking my daughter?

Sami: I don't know where we're going.

Lucas: You can't do this to me. I don't deserve it.

Sami: I'm gonna talk to my dad, and he will get you all the information he can, okay?

Lucas: What, are you doing this to get even with me?

Sami: I am doing this to protect our twins from Stefano.

Lucas: How is he gonna hurt you? How is he gonna hurt anybody when he's here? He's in here, locked up with me!

Marlena: You had a dream about me. Tell me. What was I doing? Where was I?

John: I don't know.

Marlena: What do you remember?

John: I'm not sure. I'm not too sure of anything. It's these damn drugs. Everybody wants to... keep me so quiet. I can't think straight.

Marlena: I'll see if I can lower the dosage.

John: Yeah, that'd be a start.

Marlena: I'll be right back. While I'm gone, try to remember that dream.

John: Yeah.

Marlena: Oh.

Hope: Was he awake?

Marlena: Yes.

Hope: What did he say?

Marlena: He had a dream... about me. No details, but he had a dream about me.

Hope: Do you believe him?

Marlena: Well, I'm not sure exactly. He could be trying to work me, or he could be having a breakthrough. But I'll find out.

Stefano: Well, well, well. [Clears throat] I see that the process seems to be working. Ah. Can you feel it? We are removing memories, hmm? Personality. Not everything, of course, but we are also extracting cognitive thought... relationships, hmm? Uh...emotions. You are going to be a clean slate, my friend... a clean slate.

Sami: Oh, my God. I don't believe this.

Lucas: Sami, it's true. I am sharing a cell with Stefano.

Sami: Where are you right now?

Lucas: I am in my cell.

Sami: Lucas, we can't be talking right now with Stefano right there.

Lucas: Listen, he's not here, all right? They took him to see his attorneys. We can talk. It's okay.

Sami: So, how are you calling me from your cell?

Lucas: He must have smuggled one in here. I went through his stuff, and I found it. You didn't answer my question. Are you okay?

Sami: I'm scared.

Lucas: Who are you scared of? There's nothing to be afraid of. He's here, all right? Stefano's here. He can't touch you.

Sami: Lucas, what are you talking about? Do you know how long his arms are? He could reach through those bars and grab anything he wants, including his grandson.

Lucas: So, you're not gonna tell me where you're going.

Sami: Lucas, I don't know. I honestly donít. Abe is in charge. He is taking us away someplace safe.

E.J.: Hey, do you know where Johnny's ointment is? He's got a bit of a rash.

Lucas: Who's there? Is that your loving husband?

John: [Moaning] [Door opens]

Stefano: [Sighs] Are we all done? Ah, that did not take as long as I suspected. Hello, John. Well, that is your name, I hear. John Black! Marvelous. Marvelous. [Clapping] Marvelous. [Chuckles] All right. I'll bet if you had a headache, you would not even be able to recognize it. Rolf has created a wondrous system, don't you think? Oops. [Chuckles] That's foolish of me to say. You cannot think. [Laughs] Please, forgive me. Oh, that is even sillier for me to say because you cannot forgive me. Ah. All right. Hmm. A man's entire life, everything he knew, everything he remembered, has been extracted from his brain and placed on this single, little disc. [Chuckles] It's incredible, huh? Incredible.

John: Aaah! Don't take it! Don't take it! Don't take it!

Philip: Listen to me. I don't blame you for anything that's happened, for anything you've said, or anything you've done.

Belle: How can you even say that? I've held you at such a distance, and you've just been trying to be there for me. You saved my life.

Philip: Best thing I ever did.

Belle: Well, I owe you.

Philip: No. That's not how I want it between us.

Belle: There is no us. And there is no Shawn and me. And now I don't even have my daughter.

[Voice breaking] I should have saved her.

Philip: There was nothing more you could do.

Belle: There's always something.

Philip: And what would that have been? Beat up your kidnappers? Disarm them and tie them up? You tried. You did everything you possibly could to take her away from those people, and now you need to get well.

Belle: I didn't do enough.

Philip: You couldn't have done any more. No one could have done enough. You are a victim, Belle.

Belle: I might be able to buy that except that everyone I love is becoming a victim, too.

Philip: Stop it. You can't go back and fix things. It's in the past. You can't change it. But you can prepare for the future. And you can start by getting well, for Claire. It's gonna take some bed rest and some sleep, by natural means or with a sleeping pill.

Belle: I don't want it! I already told you, I don't want it!

Philip: Well, I've upset you. I'm gonna go and let you get some sleep.

Belle: Philip, wait. Please don't go.

Lucas: That's E.J., isn't it? He's there. What the hell is E.J. doing in our apartment?

Sami: Listen, Lucas Ė

Lucas: Don't tell me you're gonna go off with him somewhere to hide out, you and my daughter. Are you out of your mind, Sami? Do you remember who E.J. is?

Sami: We can't talk about this right now.

E.J.: What did he want?

Sami: He wanted to tell me about his new cellmate.

E.J.: Really? He called you all the way from jail just to tell you about the guy he's bunking with?

Sami: Yep.

E.J.: Well, he must be an interesting fella.

Sami: Pretty much. It's Stefano.

E.J.: How did that happen?

Sami: I don't know. Lucas didn't get that far into the story.

E.J.: Samantha, the two of you didn't say something that my father could have overheard, did you?

Sami: According to Lucas, Stefano was out talking to his lawyers. But...

E.J.: But what?

Sami: Lucas' life has already been threatened once, and now he's bunking with Stefano DiMera. I mean, God!

E.J.: All right, look. Stop. Let's just think about this for a second. Now, I know this is probably not any great consolation, Samantha, but, ironically, if Lucas is in the same cell with my father, that's about the safest place he can be. My dad does not get his own hands dirty.

Sami: God, E.J., I hope you're right.

Hope: What happened?

Nurse: He just started screaming.

Hope: Page Dr. Carrington.

Nurse: I'll be right back.

Marlena: What happened? Did you remember the dream?

John: I don't know! I can't remember anything because of these damn drugs. Did you talk to the doctor about lowering the dosage?

Marlena: I'm waiting for a call back.

Hope: Can the drugs affect his memory?

Marlena: They could.

John: I can't remember anything, and the doctor's giving me drugs to mess with my memory. That's just brilliant.

Marlena: I think you'll remember more when we lower the dosage.

Dr. Carrington: What's going on?

John: Doctor... when this woman talks to you, I want you to listen to her.

Marlena: I'd like a word with you, please.

Dr. Carrington: Sure.

Marlena: I don't know what those monsters did to John's mind, but he needs therapy immediately. I know we can undo whatever was done to him, but it has to happen quickly because if it doesn't, he will lose every shred of memory that he has.

Dr. Carrington: I want him emotionally stabilized before we do anything.

Marlena: What do you think about lowering his medications?

Dr. Carrington: Is this his idea or yours?

Marlena: Both. He thinks that will help him remember his dreams, and that's possible.

Dr. Carrington: I'm not sure about lowering the dosage. I'll get back with you.

Roman: What's going on, Doc?

Hope: If you close your eyes and let your thoughts drift, does anything come to mind?

John: The same thing as when my eyes are open.

Hope: And that is?

John: I don't like you or trust you.

Roman: What was all that about with Dr. Carrington?

Marlena: We were just talking about John's medications.

Roman: Doc, let me ask you something, okay? Don't you think you're a little too close to John to be involved in his treatment?

Marlena: Love doesn't make me stupid, Roman.

Roman: No one thinks that. But there are certain people who think you lack objectivity.

Marlena: Who would that be?

Roman: Abe, for one.

Marlena: Really? Because I didn't know Abe was running the hospital now.

Roman: He doesnít. But Jim Finch does. And just like Jim Finch, Abe believes there's a conflict. So, apparently a decision has been made. Dr. Carrington is the only one permitted to treat John, which means you have to back off.

Marlena: You are talking to me like I am some kind of fool who can be tricked into unchaining him, giving him $200, and putting him in a taxi cab. All I want is to free the real John from that body in there.

Roman: So do I. You know that, Marlena. But in case you've forgotten, you were the one in charge when John freed himself.

Marlena: Is he asleep?

Hope: No. He's probably trying to figure out a way to strangle me.

Roman: Marlena, I'm sure that Dr. Carrington will listen to your opinion.

Marlena: Really? Because he had the opportunity and didn't take it.

Roman: Well, we do have to err on the side of extreme caution. We don't know what John's capable of.

Hope: We know that he's capable of getting out of the restraints.

Roman: My point is we don't know who this guy is. Yeah, he's in John's body, but we have no idea what Stefano did to his brain.

John: I'm sedated... not absent. Did you talk to the doctor?

Marlena: Yes. He won't lower your medications. May I have a moment alone with John, please?

Roman: The guard stays.

Marlena: But of course. John, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

John: Well, I'm sure you are.

Marlena: I want you to know that no matter what, I will love you, and I will always fight for you. Why won't you look at me? Why?

John: You want to know why? I'll tell you exactly why.

Stefano: [Speaking indistinctly]

Lucas: You weren't gone very long, were you?

Stefano: I always find it best when dealing with lawyers and their hourly fees to keep it short and sweet. Ah. Did you miss me?

Lucas: You were talking about getting me out of here right before that guard came and got you.

Stefano: Oh, yes. And if I remember correctly, you wanted nothing to do with it.

Lucas: Well, why don't you tell me what it is, and then I'll tell you if I'm interested.

Stefano: All right. The, uh, proposal is really quite simple. And it's something, I think, that you will find agreeable. I could use a little assistance in getting my grandson away from his parents.

Lucas: You want me to kidnap Sami's son?

Stefano: Yes. Samantha and Elvis'. Doesn't that sound reasonable to you?

Lucas: It doesn't sound reasonable to me at all.

Stefano: Why on earth not? If Giovanni is away from Samantha, that means Elvis is away from Samantha. I mean, I should think that would be something that would be enticing to you.

Lucas: Yeah, E.J. out of Sami's life, yeah, sure. But kidnapping Sami's son? No, thank you. I'm not interested.

Stefano: What a shame.

Jailer: Lucas Horton. Time to stretch your legs.

Lucas: Oh, fun.

Stefano: Just think of the wonderful shape you are going to be in, Lucas.

Lucas: I get to defend myself again.

Stefano: Ah. So... Lucas Horton... tell me, did you make some calls while I was away? Ah.

[Cellphone ringing]

Sami: Oh, Lucas. Lucas, listen to me. You have to stop calling me because Stefano, who knows what that son of a bitch has done to his phone.

Stefano: Oh, my goodness. I hope you're not speaking about me, Samantha.

E.J.: It's off. Look, it's going to be all right.

Belle: Thank you for staying.

Philip: Don't thank me for being selfish. You know this is where I want to be.

Belle: I don't know what I'd do without you. You're the only who's been here with me. I mean, I know Shawn is getting Claire.

Philip: Yeah, she'll be home soon enough.

Belle: And my mom is taking care of my dad.

Philip: And your dad can help find Claire, too.

Belle: Every time I've opened my eyes, you've been the first face I would see. It's nice. It's really nice to see your face.

Philip: I want nothing more than to be the first face you see when you wake up. [Stutters] I-I shouldn't have said that. You're vulnerable right now. I don't want to be the guy --

Belle: Stop, stop. I know what you meant. Do me a favor.

Philip: Anything.

Belle: Will you hold my hand until I fall asleep?

[Crystal humming "Hush, little baby"]

John: You can let go of my hand now. You've been taken off my case.

Marlena: What does that mean?

John: You can't stop the flow of drugs. You are of no further use to me.

Marlena: Look, you may think that, but I know you don't believe that.

Hope: Are you okay?

Marlena: I got to go.

Hope: I'll come with you.

Marlena: No, no. I just want to be alone.

Hope: What do you think that was all about?

Roman: She thought he was John. He's not. Whatever Stefano did to him runs pretty damn deep.

Hope: I'm beginning to wonder if we're ever gonna be able to reach the real John. I'm gonna grab some more tea.

Dr. Carrington: I want the dosage upped 10 cc, administered 24 hours a day.

Nurse: Are you sure, doctor?

Marlena: [Thinking] I think you were close to a breakthrough, John. I know you were. And if I have to take matters into my own hands to make sure it happens, I will.

Carmen: The creep is dead. What other story is there to tell?

Chelsea: The truth. I'm thinking that, that's what we should do.

Marlena: Was this a mission that Stefano gave?

John: Stefano.

Hope: I'm just really worried about Claire.

Bo: We'll find her.

Hope: Together. Which is why I think it's time I got back in the game.
