E.J.: Any risks with my family. This incident with the chauffeur made up my mind. Look, just listen to me, okay? We need to get the twins. We need to get a car. We need to pack it up, and we need to get out of here. We need to find somewhere safe to stay where nobody can find us. Now, when Stefano is finally in jail -- and I mean in jail permanently -- or he's been deported, then we can come out again.
Sami: Are you insane?
Caroline: Okay, Steve.
Steve: You want this one behind the bar, too, boss?
Caroline: Yes, please. And then the rest can go -- you can put that downstairs.
Steve: I already put most of the stuff down there.
Caroline: Oh, you did?
Caroline: Oh, my goodness. Well... Steve... I really, really appreciate this.
Steve: Well... I knew the truth would come out sooner or later.
Caroline: Oh? What would that be?
Steve: Why you let your daughter marry me.
Caroline: Oh. [Laughs] Listen, if it were just for a strong back, I would have tapped that keg much sooner.
Steve: Well, I'm happy to do it for you. You know that.
Caroline: Well, you know, Roman and Bo usually do these things.
Steve: Yeah, they got their hands full right now with John and Claire and who knows what else.
Caroline: Yeah. Poor Shawn.
Steve: Hey. Don't worry. They're gonna find Claire.
Caroline: He just loves that little girl so much.
Steve: What's not to love?
Caroline: That's right. She's a doll. Steve?
Caroline: Thank you. I have never seen Kayla so happy.
Steve: Like I said, it's you. You took a chance on a dude like me.
Caroline: Yeah, well, I could see that you were a diamond in the rough.
Steve: Was I?
Steve: Yeah, rough wasn't a word I would think anybody would use back then.
Kayla: Hey, you.
Steve: Baby. You look beautiful.
Kayla: You think so?
Steve: You got my blood pumping.
Kayla: Yeah. 'Cause I need your body.
Marlena: Oh, honey. It's going to be all right. Everything is gonna be all right. I just know it is. Sweetie, I'm so sorry I wasn't here earlier for you. I'm so sorry. Belle... I have some news for you.
Belle: Did they find Claire?
Marlena: No. No, honey, that's not it. But this is something of a miracle.
Belle: What's that? Oh, my God. No. Daddy? H-how is this happening? I -- oh, my God! Daddy! I was there. You -- you -- I watched you die.
Hope: How's Belle?
Marlena: Well, she's much better, in better spirits now that she's seen her father.
Bo: Wait. They let him out of his room?
Hope: He remembers her?
Marlena: They did let him out. Roman was resisting it at first, but then he conceded when we agreed to put some sort of monitoring device on his leg. So, uh, yes, he's seen her. And, no, he doesn't remember who she is.
Bo: No cuffs?
Marlena: No, just the monitoring device. And he was very well-behaved. And he's back in bed now.
Bo: And back in his restraints?
Marlena: Yes. They're putting those on now. You know, it breaks my heart to see him like that, but I guess until we know what Stefano did to him and we know how to undo it, well, we just have no choice.
Hope: How did she react?
Marlena: She was overwhelmed. To see her father, whom she thought was gone, lost to her for all time... she did sense that something was wrong. And then, of course, seeing the ankle monitor didn't help things any. But I think we persuaded her it was all okay.
Bo: Did she catch on that he has no idea who she is?
Marlena: No. He pretended.
Hope: Why would he do that?
Marlena: Because he doesn't have any friends, no one he can trust, and I've been working to make him understand that I'm on his side. And I think he's beginning to have some belief in me.
Bo: So, you think he's starting to trust you.
Marlena: I believe he is. And I believe he'll come back to us just the way Steve did.
Hope: What happened when he saw her?
Marlena: Well, he held her hand for a little while. And then he got this glint in his eye. It was as though Belle had touched him a place in his heart that Stefano had tried to kill. And then it was gone. Then he was back to the man we've seen. But there was something there. Now we have to work it, get him back.
Roman: That was a nice little act you put on for Marlena and Belle, John. But that's all it was -- just an act.
John: Whatever you say.
Roman: Don't B.S. me, John. I'm not buying it. I was held hostage by Stefano, too. Hell, he tortured me. I know what that's like. I'm sorry it happened to you. But that's why there's no way in hell I can trust you. Now, you may eventually fool Marlena, but you're not gonna fool me.
John: What do you think I'm gonna do?
Roman: I think you're gonna do whatever Stefano stuffed in that brain of yours. I don't know what it is, but I'm not gonna let it happen.
John: Don't be so sure.
Steve: Mmm. Smell sweet, too.
Kayla: Patience. You have to have patience.
Steve: What are you talking about? You just said you want my body. Let's get out of here.
Kayla: I do! Just not this second.
Steve: That's not fair. Mixed signals.
Kayla: Listen, I just checked my ovulation chart.
Kayla: Mm-hmm. And that chart tells me when my optimal time, my peak zone to conceive is.
Steve: Why don't we do it every hour? Then we're bound to hit your right time.
Kayla: No, come on. I'm serious. That chart tells you that today is my day. Now we just have to make sure that we're in the zone.
Steve: Come on. You know we're always in the zone.
Kayla: No, it's a very, very small window.
Steve: Stay close until that window opens --
Kayla: It's no fair. You can't jump-start it.
Steve: What are you talking about "no fair"? First you tell me you want my body. You get me all revved up. And now you say I can't have you.
Kayla: You can have me. Just not right this second. Listen, you finish up here. I'll go home, and then I'll call you when the time is right.
Steve: I don't think I can wait.
Kayla: It's just a couple of hours.
Steve: I think I was just about ready to hit my peak zone.
Kayla: You're in your peak zone every second of every day.
Steve: Why don't you just stay here with me while I finish up, and then we can go out and get a bite to eat?
Kayla: That's a very tempting offer, but I have to go home and do that LH test.
Steve: Oh. The old LH test.
Kayla: Yeah, the luteinizing hormone. I read that it's extremely accurate. It can tell you when is the optimal time for you to conceive within the hour.
Steve: Tell me that's not the kind of thing you're gonna whisper in my ear when we get to it.
Kayla: I guess I'm just gonna have to surprise you.
Steve: Can I ask you a question?
Kayla: Of course.
Steve: What are you wearing under that dress?
Kayla: Stop it.
E.J.: Look, I know what we need to do. We need to go into hiding.
Sami: Oh, as if your father couldn't find us?
E.J.: "If," Samantha. "If" is the operative word. I know my father, all right? I know how he thinks. I know what he's capable of doing. I'm also quite capable myself of staying a step ahead of him and keeping you and the babies safe.
Sami: I don't like it. I don't want to be away from my family. I feel safer around them.
E.J.: You shouldn’t. Look what happened to Claire.
Sami: Look, I talked to my father about that. He doesn't think that Claire's kidnaping has anything to do with Stefano.
E.J.: Really? You know that for a fact, do you?
Sami: No, I guess not.
E.J.: Okay. Now, listen to me, if you had been on that pier with me, Samantha, you wouldn't be having this moment of indecision. I'm on the phone with my father, and he's saying to me, "E.J., come down to the jail and talk to me. I'm gonna send my chauffeur to pick you up." This guy turns up. He's got muscles the size of a tank, and he's carrying a gun. Now, why does somebody need to carry a gun? Why does a driver need to carry a gun? It's not to get me there any faster. It's either he's gonna kidnap me or he's gonna shoot me. Think about it. It makes sense. I stood up to my father. I turned my back on my father, and look at him. He's now in jail. All right? And this is his way of telling me, "this is what happens when you defy the family." Look, he's trying to show us that he's still powerful, but this isn't even his primary objective.
Sami: Then what is?
E.J.: He wants our son. Samantha, he wants Johnny to be the next DiMera heir, especially since I've been such a disappointment to him. He wants Johnny to be Giovanni. That is why we have to hide. We have to take them away.
Marlena: It's going to take some time for John's mind to heal, but I think we can do it. And I'm ready to start.
Roman: Well, I would like to be a part of it, but right now I got to focus on finding Claire.
Marlena: Of course. We all do.
Bo: Claire's a priority at the moment.
Marlena: Of course. John is alive. And he's here. And he's not going anywhere.
Roman: I'll call Henny, see if he's got any new leads.
Bo: All right. I'm gonna check in with the station.
Hope: Okay. Stefano did a real number on John.
Marlena: Do you doubt we can help him?
Hope: I just think you have to be very careful. That is not John in there, not yet.
Marlena: I know that. But he's alive. And when I thought that John -- when I knew he was dead, I didn't know how I would survive, how I'd live without him. And now he's back. So there's hope. Look, I'm not kidding myself. I know the extent of the damage Stefano could have done. I also know that it can be undone. Oh, Hope...when Belle saw him... it was such a moment.
Hope: I know.
Marlena: John's strong. He's a fighter. And I know he will fight Stefano's mind games.
Hope: They weren't games.
Marlena: No. No, they weren’t. They were very serious. But I believe that one day soon John will turn around and look into my eyes, and he will recognize me. And he will put his arms around me. And he will return the love that I feel for him.
Hope: I hope so.
Marlena: I also believe that Bo and Roman will find Claire and return her to her mother and her father. Because if John can come back to me from the dead, then anything and everything can happen.
Caroline: Steve, did I hear Kayla?
Steve: Yeah, yeah, she was here for a moment. She had to go home and... she just had something to do.
Caroline: Oh, I was gonna fix a nice little meal just for you two.
Steve: That's nice. I appreciate that. But can we take a rain check? And would you mind if I come back later and store the rest of those kegs? I think you got enough under the bar to get you rolling when you open up in the morning.
Caroline: Can't I fix you a sandwich or something?
Steve: I-I-I got something I have to deal with, too. Thanks. I'll see you later.
Marlena: I've seen it in my practice before --
Hope: Any news?
Roman: We're not sure.
Bo: A couple of calls, but nothing solid yet.
Marlena: I've been praying so hard.
Roman: Yeah, everybody is.
Marlena: John could help.
Hope: I don't think that John's exactly in the position to help right now.
Marlena: Not right now. I meant once he breaks Stefano's bonds, he'll be right there in the front lines with everybody else.
Roman: Let's get back at it.
Bo: See you in a minute.
Sami: I am not letting Stefano DiMera take my son.
E.J.: That's why you have to go.
Sami: You don't know what you're talking about. I am not putting our lives in your hands like that. I'm gonna stay with my family, thank you very much.
E.J.: Samantha. Do you trust me?
Sami: Trust is earned, E.J., and you haven't exactly done that.
E.J.: Then show me how I can earn it.
Sami: There is nothing that you can do. I am not about to take my babies and vanish without thinking it through. I trust my father to keep us safe.
E.J.: Your father has his hands full looking for Claire.
Sami: He has enough men to assign someone to help me.
E.J.: Samantha, my father has men in the force, okay? Does Roman really know everybody that he can trust?
Sami: Hey, I'm not guarding them by myself. I have you, E.J. You're helping me, right? Unless you choose to run from your father and hide.
Kayla: Oh, my God. It's time.
Steve: Hi, sweetness.
Kayla: Hey, how long till you can get home?
Steve: Well, I'm still at the pub. It's gonna be at least a couple hours.
Kayla: No, no, no, no. No hours. I need you here right now.
Steve: I can't just leave. It would be rude.
Kayla: No, rude? Forget rude. I'm having my window. It's my -- [Knock on door] There's somebody at the door. It's my window.
Steve: Well, I'll get there as soon as I can.
Kayla: Listen, this isn't a good time. I think you have the wrong room.
Steve: I guess I could come back later.
Kayla: Get in here.
Sami: [Sighs] I'm so glad -- man, I am so glad you guys are asleep. Okay.
E.J.: Allow me.
Sami: E.J. E.J. –
E.J.: You know, you, um... you never cease to insult me, Samantha. Look, I wasn't trying to run away from my father, okay? I'm not afraid to stand and face him. But I also know how to work things to my advantage, okay? And we need to be concerned not only about your safety and my safety but the safety of these two babies, as well. You're welcome. So... is this it?
Sami: Is this what?
E.J.: Is this, I don't know, battle station, until I persuade you to leave Salem?
Sami: Salem is my home.
E.J.: It's a very dangerous home for you. You know that. I mean, obviously you know that. Otherwise you wouldn't have divorced a man that you loved to be with somebody who you don’t. I think you're very brave, all right? And you're very bold. In fact, what you did was one of the boldest things I've ever seen anybody do. And you're very smart. And you're very resourceful. And I know you want to take care of your family. But do not underestimate this danger.
Marlena: Oh! Oh! John! How did you --
Hope: I'll get help.
John: If you get help, the doctor dies.
John: Get inside and close the door now.
Steve: Hurry up.
Kayla: How did you know it was the right time? I just took this test and then, poof, here you are!
Steve: I don't need a test to know when you're ready.
Steve: The minute you walked in the pub tonight, I knew. Come here. [Knock on door]
Kayla: Ignore it.
Steve: Ignore what?
Caroline: Kayla, sweetie! It's mom!
E.J.: It's from my father.
Sami: How do you know it's from your father?
E.J.: I know it's from my father. He doesn't need a card. He wants the baby. And he's trying to rattle us. DiMera humor -- always unnerving, never funny. You okay?
Sami: Well, no. I mean, I -- I'm worried. What if I have to... defend the twins by myself?
E.J.: Careful. You almost sound like you care about me.
Sami: You're Johnny's father.
E.J.: Okay, sure. Listen, what are we going to do about this second message?
Sami: Look, you're right. We have to do something. We have to get out of here. But we're doing it my way.
E.J.: No, we're not. [Telephone beeps]
Marlena: John, stop this. Not for a second do I believe you would hurt me.
John: Not only could I hurt you, I will kill you.
Marlena: You won’t.
John: You are so wrong.
Marlena: John. What is it? What's happening? Can you hear me? Can you hear me? John, can you hear me?
Officer: Freeze! Freeze! Hands behind your head! Do it now! Freeze!
Marlena: Stop. I've got you. I've got you.
Kayla: Mom, I'll be right there. Get your shirt. Get your shirt.
Steve: Hmm? Oh.
Kayla: Button your shirt. Come on.
Steve: I got it.
Kayla: Straighten out your hair. Your hair. [Clears throat]
Caroline: Hi, sweetie.
Kayla: What a surprise.
Caroline: Oh, Steve. There you are.
Steve: Yeah. [Clears throat] Here I am.
E.J.: Is everything all right?
Sami: Yeah, yeah, they just needed to be tucked in again. Listen, who were you calling?
E.J.: I was just making some arrangements for you.
Sami: Okay, what arrangements?
E.J.: You'll see.
Sami: Listen to me, E.J. I am in this, too, and I'm not gonna just follow you blindly. These are my children, and I'm going to decide how best to protect them. [Knock on door] Do you know who that is? [Knock on door] E.J.
E.J.: It's okay.
Abe: E.J. Sami.
Abe: E.J. called me to tell me that you need some help, and your father's plate's pretty full right now.
E.J.: I figured that aside from your father, Commissioner Carver would be the only person you would trust to take you to a safe house.
Sami: Well, yeah, but this must be like working the road again for you. I mean, you're in charge of the entire police department and you're here helping me.
Abe: You know very well, Sami, that I'm no sort of big shot to you. We're family. This is the way I take care of family.
Sami: Thank you. Thank you so much. You called him for me?
E.J.: You certainly weren't about to let me help you.
John: Got to get out of here. Got to get out of here. Got to go. Got to get out of here.
Marlena: John, what were you thinking?
John: Let me out of here.
Marlena: Why? Tell me why.
John: Just let me out of -- let me out of here.
Caroline: You ran out of the pub so fast, you forgot your wallet.
Steve: Oh, that's very thoughtful.
Caroline: Well, I was afraid you might get pulled over. You wouldn't have a license.
Steve: I appreciate that. Thanks.
Caroline: Well, anyway, Grandpa Shawn made clam chowder. And, well, we just want to say thank you for all you're doing to help out at the pub. And I know that you are working hard, so I thought maybe you would like some, too.
Kayla: Well, thank you.
Kayla: I don't know what to say except, uh, thank you. We'll enjoy this when we have the time to relax after --
Caroline: After -- after what?
Steve: After a nice glass of wine. What goes with chowder, anyway?
Caroline: White. White wine.
Steve: That's what we'll have.
Caroline: Can I do anything else for you guys?
Kayla: No! No. I think we're good, Mom. Really, thank you. Thank you for coming by. It was so sweet of you and so thoughtful, wasn't it? I love you.
Caroline: I love you, too.
Kayla: Thanks. I'll see you later, okay? I love you. Was that rude?
Steve: Yeah. But I don't care.
Kayla: Where were we?
Steve: Oh. Oh.
Abe: All right. Let's get to work.
Sami: Okay. Okay. What do we do?
Abe: Get you to a safe house.
Sami: What safe house?
Abe: I've contacted the FBI.. They found a good location for you and the babies.
Abe: We have to get you there without being followed or seen.
Sami: Which means you're not gonna tell me where.
Abe: There isn't gonna be a straight route. We're gonna take different types of transportation. But we're gonna make sure that you can never be found.
Sami: Thank you for doing this. It means so much to me. And I know how busy you are.
Abe: Look, look, look. Enough. Enough of that. I told you before, we're family. And I'm gonna make sure you're safe, Sami, even if you are going into hiding with a DiMera.
Sami: Listen. I have to believe that we don't have to worry about that.
Abe: I hope not.
Marlena: You were about to tell me.
John: No, I wasn’t.
Marlena: You can tell me, John. You can trust me. What is it you have to do? Why do you feel you have to escape?
Roman: He's not gonna escape. You don't have to worry about that anymore. We're gonna put a 24-hour watch on him.
Marlena: He could have hurt us and chose not to.
John: That's one mistake I won't make again.
Nurse: All right. You're gonna feel a little pinch.
John: No more needles.
Marlena: No, he's not. I'm a doctor of record, and he will not be injected.
Roman: Marlena, he almost killed you. Let the doctor do his job.
Marlena: What's in that?
Nurse: It's just a mild sedative.
John: No more drugs.
Marlena: John, it will calm you down. Let's go ahead. Go ahead. Just a second. Just a second. Easy, easy, easy. Done. Okay, it's done. It's done. That was no mistake. You knew exactly what was happening. You didn't hurt me because you couldn't hurt me. It isn't possible. You love me. And one day, you're going to remember that.
Steve: No. No beepers. No.
Kayla: I have to. I have to. It could be a patient. I'll be quick.
Steve: No, no, no.
Kayla: I'll be quick! I'll be quick! Oh, for Pete's sake. Just a minute. Just a minute. Hold that thought. Hold that thought. Hello, it's Dr. Johnson. Oh, well, that sounds like something that you could handle.
Steve: Can you handle this, baby?
Kayla: Well, you know peter can be difficult. You just be firm. Mm-hmm.
Steve: How's that?
Kayla: That's nice. That's really nice. No, no, no, don't be nice. Don't be nice. You need to be firm. I really think -- I really think it's just a leg cramp and you can probably just rub it out.
Steve: Whatever you say, doctor.
Kayla: I think you've got it now. I think you got it. Okay, well, call me if you have any problems. Okay. Oh, Steve.
Steve: Don't ever do that again.
Abe: Now, you pack what you need. And I will call you after a while.
Sami: Thank you. Thank you.
Abe: All right, you can thank me by staying out of trouble.
Sami: I'll do the best I can. I'll see you.
Abe: You'll be hearing from me.
E.J.: Did I do something wrong?
Abe: Nothing yet...that I know of.
E.J.: Oh. Then why are you looking at me like that?
Abe: You're a DiMera.
E.J.: I see. I'm a DiMera. Right. Maybe you would afford me the opportunity to turn that into "was a DiMera." Oh, I'M... you don't even need to. Once a DiMera, always a DiMera. But if I was going to act like a DiMera, I wouldn't have called you up and told you to come here.
Abe: Well, maybe that's exactly what you would do. You know, I have been around too long to drop my guard to a DiMera.
E.J.: Wells, all right? Let's just, um... let's just call me E.J. Wells.
Abe: A rose by any other name.
E.J.: I see. It's that horrible DiMera blood I have coursing through my veins.
Abe: Exactly. Sami and the twins are gonna have the ISA keeping an eye on them.
E.J.: Oh, I see. Sorry. What you mean -- they're really going to be keeping an eye on me.
Abe: Oh, they're gonna be crawling up your jockstrap. I'm telling you, do not mess with Sami and those babies.
E.J.: I love my son. Abe. I love my son.
Hope: He can't be trusted.
Roman: Yeah, Doc, when he says he doesn't know what he's doing, don't buy into it.
Bo: He knows exactly what he's doing. He's trying to get you to lower your defenses.
Marlena: I know that. I know he can't be trusted. Not yet. It breaks my heart.
Philip: This is where I want to be, unless you don't want me here.
Marlena: Are you okay?
John: I had a dream. It was about you.
Sami: Lucas' life has already been threatened once, and now he's bunking with Stefano DiMera.
