John: So? You gonna pop the lock so I can grab Belle's keys?
Marlena: Depends on who's getting credit for it.
John: I'm willing to share.
Marlena: Oh, that is so big of you. I'll get them.
John: I was beginning to enjoy this sharing thing.
Marlena: You were, eh?
John: Mm-hmm. Any fire to see how far we can take it?
Marlena: Yes, I believe so.
John: Well, then, you better call Belle right now and find out where she wants us to drop off those keys.
Marlena: If I know Belle, her phone is probably -- no! No! John, we're here. Hang on, my love. Hang on. Take our strength and hold on. Hold on. Hold him, Belle. Hold him. Okay.
John: I...love you.
Marlena: I love you. I love you. You are -- you are the great, great love of my life. Now rest, please. Rest. For me. Okay. And when it's time for me to see you again...there you'll be. You'll have your arms flung wide open, waiting. I'll be there. You'll be taking care of me again. Sleep. I'll see you in forever. [Equipment beeping rapidly]
Belle: Daddy? [Flatlining]
Hope: Hey. Feel like some company?
Hope: Missed you at Gran's.
Marlena: Thanks. I, um... I couldn't do that.
Hope: Of course. Everybody understood. So, um, how did you spend your day?
Marlena: Well, I, uh... [Laughs] I went to the dry cleaner's. Uh, I had a call saying I had to pick up some stuff.
Hope: On Christmas Day?
Marlena: I know. Odd, huh? That's what I thought. I had a call from the owner, and then she said that if I didn't come over right away, she would throw away John's suits.
Hope: That is very odd.
Marlena: Yeah. You know what else was odd? The place was closed. I was banging on the door, and a woman from the shop next to it came out. She told me that John is alive.
Stefano: Ah. [Door opens] So?
Rolf: [Gasps] He escaped. I think he got out through the tunnel.
Stefano: You fool. How did he find out about the tunnel?
Rolf: I have no idea!
Stefano: Well, we have to find him right away. [Glass shatters]
Man: Um, never mind, mister. You can keep it.
E.J.: Found it. So, this is a GPS tracking system. We use them for all the cars at Mythic for mileage and insurance reasons. But if Kate and Lucas are in her car, we'll be able to find it using this and pinpoint their exact location. And then hopefully you can get there before the police do. All right, let's see. [Device beeping]
Lucas: Mom, I am freezing my buns off. I'm gonna let myself out of here. I can't take it.
Kate: Look, look, I was just taking precautions, okay? I wanted to make sure that no one followed us.
Lucas: What are you talking about? Do you hear sirens? Do you hear dogs barking? No one is following us. You know what? I'm letting myself out right now. This is crazy.
Kate: Fine. Okay.
Lucas: Freezing! Freezing! It's almost as bad as getting caught in the freezer truck. Get in! Turn on the heat! Hurry up! Come on. Come on. Crank up the heat. Come on, please, Mom.
[Engine turns over] Where are we anyway? We're at the airport? What are we doing at the airport? I thought I was taking a boat. I can't go to the airport --
Kate: We're not taking a plane, okay? Philip's sending a truck, and then it's viva Mexico.
Lucas: All right, I'm with that. I'm cool with Mexico. What do you mean "we"?
Max: [Clears throat]
Stephanie: Is Ford's dad gone?
Chelsea: He searched every room before he went down to the basement, but he didn't because my mom got here.
Max: Oh, so Ford's dad's coming back.
Chelsea: Yeah, with the police and a search warrant.
Stephanie: What about the surveillance video -- Ford leaving the house?
Chelsea: He kept saying that he couldn't see his son's face.
Max: So, your mom and Decker, they don't know that it was me leaving in Ford's clothes.
Chelsea: No, but when they get back here and go down to the basement, you can bet that they're gonna find him.
Hope: Wait a minute. This woman just walked up to you and told you that John's alive?
Marlena: It seems strange, doesn't it?
Hope: Who was this person?
Marlena: She said she was a psychic. Her name was Crystal Ė
Hope: Honestly, come on. She couldn't come up with something more original than that?
Marlena: [Laughs] Okay. It does have kind of the feeling of a three-ring circus, doesn't it?
Hope: It's outrageous. That's what it is. She is a con artist preying on your loss. How much did she ask you for?
Marlena: Nothing. Not a dime. I think she just sensed my loneliness.
Hope: Marlena, John's passing was in the newspaper. It made headlines. You saw him take his last breath.
Marlena: Yes, I did.
Hope: What else did the psychic say?
Marlena: She said that she had a vision of a man in a forest and that he was looking at a plaque that had a name on it. Now, you know John went by the name of Forrest for a while. And you know that he got the name John Black off of a plaque. How could she have known that?
Hope: I don't know. Maybe she had an inside source.
Marlena: No. I think he's alive. I can feel it.
E.J.: Look -- the tracking information is downloading. Why don't you go and get yourself together so you're ready to roll as soon as we find their location?
Sami: Look, E.J., I can't help but be suspicious of this sudden change in you. Why are you so willing to help Lucas all of a sudden?
E.J.: I'm not helping Lucas. I'm helping you.
Stephanie: This is so out of control.
Max: It's okay. We'll handle this.
Stephanie: What are we gonna do when Ford's dad gets here with that warrant?
Max: Chelsea, call your mom and see if she can find out anything.
Stephanie: Max, I'm scared.
Max: Look, listen up, okay? Listen to me. We're gonna make this right, okay? Look, I'm watching your back all the time.
Stephanie: How did things get so screwed up? We just wanted to scare Decker. We never meant to kill him.
Max: You didn't kill him. He fell down the stairs.
Stephanie: Yeah, because we drugged him. God, I am so sorry for getting you involved in this.
Max: I'm glad you did.
Max: Yeah. I mean, it's kind of how I knew you still trusted me.
Stephanie: This isn't the first time that I've trusted you with my life, and it's definitely not the last.
Max: Well, good. Then let me take care of this because it's gonna be over before you even know it. I promise.
Chelsea: My mom said that as soon as the judge issues a warrant, the cops are coming over. And she's gonna come with them.
Max: Okay, well, we better get in gear. Just remember, okay, that if Decker was still out there, no woman on campus would be safe, especially not you... or you.
Kate: It's not negotiable. I'm going with you.
Kate: Why? Because I love you and because I would do anything to keep you safe.
Lucas: What about the goodbyes at Christmas?
Kate: [Sighs] Well, actually, I wasn't aware that my Mexican contacts will only deal with me.
Lucas: Ahh, the peso talks.
Kate: Yeah, it helps, but if you want to get all the way to Europe, you're going to need me.
Lucas: That's a lot to ask.
Kate: No sacrifice, really. Getting you out of the country is gonna keep you out of jail.
Lucas: I just don't know if it's worth it.
Kate: Your freedom is priceless, Lucas.
Lucas: If I go, Mom, I'm never coming back.
Kate: Look. Once you get over there and you're in a safe and secure location, Sami will go over there. She'll go over there with the twins.
Lucas: What kind of message am I sending my kids? I don't face anything. I run away from my problems. And then I ask my mom to help me?
Kate: There's no shame in that.
Lucas: It's just not the way I thought things would work out.
Kate: E.J. has schemed relentlessly to steal your life. I think you had every right to put a bullet in him.
Lucas: Don't give me that. Don't give me that "no court would find me guilty" drama. They want my head on a platter. They're not gonna stop until they get it.
Kate: You shouldn't count Philip out. The Kiriakis name has clout, and he's gonna help.
Lucas: He's gonna help? Great. The first time we work together as a unit, as a family, is to get me out of the country.
Kate: That's what families are for.
Kate: And when this is all settled, when it's taken care of, then you can come back into the country. But until then, you're gonna be safe. And like I said, Sami and the twins, they can come visit you.
Lucas: They're not gonna come visit me. She's gonna hate me when she finds out what I did.
Sami: Listen, E.J., I know I said for you to try to make me -- [Device beeping]
E.J.: I don't mean to interrupt, but I found them. Come here.
E.J.: They're on North Access Road, just above the airport.
Sami: Oh, God. They're not gonna make a commercial flight. There's police all over the airport. And Lucas is gonna try to use a fake passport?
E.J.: I don't know what's going on, but from what I can see, Kate's car isn't moving anywhere. Why don't you grab your bag and go down there?
Sami: All right, I have to call my mom and see if she can babysit.
E.J.: Hold on a second. Look, I'll look after the twins. You haven't got time to wait for your mother to come over. Go and grab your coat and get down there and see Lucas.
Max: Look, guys, we need to move fast before Billie and the cops get here.
Stephanie: The body is buried.
Max: So we'll dig it up, and then we'll figure out a way to smuggle it out of here.
Stephanie: I canít. I can't go down there. I can't see that.
Max: Okay, fine. Then you stay here, wait for the cops and Billie and try and stall them or something. Chelse?
Chelsea: Oh, I'm in.
Max: Okay. Look, this will work out. I give you my word. All right, let's get this done.
Hope: You know what I think? I think this is a con game. You got a message to go down to the cleaner's on Christmas Day, no less. I think it's a setup.
Marlena: There was something about this woman. Her concern for me did not feel like a setup. It felt genuine to me.
Hope: Okay. All right. Let me ask you one question then. If it were me telling you this story, what would you say?
Marlena: I'd recommend that you get professional help.
Hope: I'm not saying that you're crazy. That's not what I'm saying. Marlena, I think you're a woman in deep mourning who's holding on to any kind of hope that her husband's still alive. That's what I think.
Marlena: You've forgotten. I told you something. I told you when John was in the coma he would come to me in my dreams. And he told me. He told me not to grieve, that I would see him again. And I did. So, isn't it possible that John is trying to reach me through this fortune-teller?
Hope: Or maybe Crystal isn't your average con artist. Maybe she's working for the DiMeras.
Man: He went that way.
Stefano: Thank you, son. [Sighs]
Sami: Why would you think that I would trust you with my children?
E.J.: Samantha, you've trusted me with Johnny plenty of times.
Sami: Before I realized how easy it would be for you to run off with him.
E.J.: Do you know how many opportunities I've had to run off with him if I'd wanted to?
Sami: I know you have some master plan all cooked up with Stefano to take Johnny to Italy.
E.J.: Does Stefano want to take Johnny to Italy? He probably does. But I've made it very clear to him that nothing happens without your permission.
Sami: Really? 'Cause I'm never giving up my son.
E.J.: Look, Samantha, the burning issue here is getting Lucas back to the house safely.
Sami: Why do you want to get rid of me so badly? Is Stefano lurking in the hallway ready to whisk Johnny into some private jet somewhere? What are you gonna do with Allie, huh? Leave her alone?
E.J.: I would never do that. Now, I can understand why you're suspicious --
Sami: I don't need you to understand. I know I have every right to be suspicious of you.
E.J.: Samantha, okay, fine. Let's do this your way, shall we? You call Marlena. You ask her to come over here and look after the babies. And I hope it doesn't take too long. Here's your GPS system. You can find Lucas and Kate with that. Good luck.
Sami: E.J. [Door opens]
Chelsea: Can you hear my knees knocking?
Max: Yeah. Don't be scared.
Chelsea: I wish Nick was here.
Max: Yeah, well, you're stuck with me.
Chelsea: What was that?
Max: Um... it's nothing. Here.
Chelsea: Is this, um...
Max: Yeah. A new water heater. That wasn't here before.
Chelsea: Yeah, the maintenance guys were supposed to install it before the holidays.
Max: Huh. You know, I got an idea. [Clears throat] [Doorbell rings]
E.J.: Look, Samantha, I'm aware that I've given you no reasons to trust me.
Sami: And no reasons to believe you've changed.
E.J.: Well, that's not entirely true, is it? I've told you. I want to be a good father to my son. I want to be somebody that he can be proud of. And if I look good through your eyes, then I look good through his eyes.
Sami: That still doesn't explain why you're willing to help Lucas since you think he shot you.
E.J.: Well, why don't we call that a down payment for all of the things that I've done to you? Samantha, I can't make up for them. I can't take away the pain that I've caused, but if somehow stopping Lucas from making a huge mistake that is not only going to muck up his life but also the lives of many other people -- well, if that makes me my own man and stops me from following in my father's footsteps, I think that's a good thing.
Lucas: I don't want to discuss E.J.'s shooting. I don't want to talk about it at all.
Kate: I already told you. I think what you did was completely justified.
Lucas: Do me a favor and turn down the heat. I'm roasting.
Kate: Lucas, come on, now! Your gun fired the bullet that paralyzed E.J.
Lucas: I don't want to discuss it. And the more I think about it, the more I realize maybe we shouldn't be doing this. I think we should just scrap the whole getaway plan.
Kate: What the hell are you talking about? This entire thing is arranged, all right? The entire thing. We're just waiting for someone to pick us up.
Lucas: I don't care. I think we should forget it. I can't believe I'm doing this. Again, I'm listening to you.
Kate: You know, Lucas, it's not like you have unlimited options.
Lucas: What do you want, Mom? Do you want me to be an outlaw for the rest of my life, hide out in some hellhole swatting flies, missing Sami and my kids? I don't want to do that. I don't want that kind of life for myself. I don't want that life for you.
Kate: You know something? I'm looking forward to being anonymous. We can go to Paris. We can go to museums. We can go shopping. We can enjoy good food.
Lucas: I hate Paris. I hate museums. I don't like good food, all right? I'm gonna stay here where I belong. I'm gonna turn myself in to Bo and Roman, and I'm gonna do my time. I'm gonna spend the rest of my life with Sami and the kids.
Kate: Let me tell you something. You spend even one night in jail, the DiMeras will make sure that you never come home.
Stephanie: [Sighs] [Doorbell rings]
Billie: Oh, hi, Steph. Can we come in?
Billie: Thank you. This is Sergeant Dodd from the crime lab.
Dodd: How are you doing, ma'am?
Stephanie: Uh...where's Mr. Decker?
Billie: Oh, we decided to leave him at home, cool off a little bit. This search warrant allows Sergeant Dodd and myself only to search this place, okay?
Dodd: It's all right, ma'am. We'll be in and out before you know it. I'll start upstairs.
Billie: Okay. Is anybody else here? Steph. Hi. Are you alone?
Stephanie: No, I'm sorry. Chelsea and Max are here.
Billie: Oh, they are. Are they upstairs?
Stephanie: No, um, I think they're outside. They're in the garden.
Billie: In this wind chill?
Stephanie: I guess.
Billie: Well, do me a favor, please. Tell Chelsea I need to speak with her, okay?
Max: All right, that's it.
Chelsea: Oh, God, the smell. I'm gonna be sick.
Max: Here, here, here. Take one of these. This will help. Then I'll put some lime down to cover the stench when we're done.
Chelsea: What are you gonna do with...him?
Max: Well, I'm gonna give him a personal escort in that.
Chelsea: The water heater?
Max: Yeah, why not? It's portable. We can slide Decker right in, carry it out in a hand cart, and install the new one.
Chelsea: People are gonna wonder how we got the new one installed.
Max: So, you tell them -- you tell them a friend did it.
Chelsea: You know how to install one?
Max: Yeah, it's a cinch. But we got to get rid of the old one and you know who first.
Chelsea: Someone's gonna see you on the surveillance camera, and they're gonna wonder why you became Theta's new maintenance guy.
Max: Look, I got that all figured out. All right? The camera by the front door is behind the porch light, right? So, you call maintenance and tell them there's a problem with the light.
Chelsea: They're gonna tell me to change the light bulb.
Max: You tell them it's a wiring problem. So when he comes to check it out, he blocks the camera. We hustle the thing right out the door.
Chelsea: You're making all this up as you go along, aren't you?
Max: Yes, I am. Now go make that call. Thank you.
Hope: Well, not that you need reminding, but Sami is in the way of Stefano's plans for his new grandson. And we both know that he would love nothing more than to pull him into the family.
Marlena: What does that have to do with the psychic?
Hope: She's a diversion. She's feeding you bits and pieces about John, just enough to keep you interested, distracted. Sami's alone. And of course, Stefano is waiting in the wings.
Marlena: Okay. You know what? That's a possibility. My instinct tells me it's not a setup. There's something about her. It's a... it's an empathy. The same quality John had.
Hope: We both know that John died in a hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Marlena, I know that you want to believe with all of your heart that he's alive, but he's not. He's gone.
Marlena: You should be ashamed of yourself. Telling me that you can communicate with... how dare you?
Crystal: I see a man. He's... he's in a forest. He's reading something -- a book, an inscription. No, a plaque. A plaque with his name on it.
Marlena: John? John. His name was Forrest for a while.
Crystal: I see a black robe. Was he a judge or a priest?
Marlena: A priest for a while. He's gone. He's gone. He died over two months ago.
Crystal: He's not dead. He is very much alive.
Marlena: What do you mean he's not dead? I was holding him in my arms. I watched him die.
Crystal: Do you always believe what you see?
Marlena: Who are you? I don't know who you are.
Crystal: This man, your husband -- he's still out there.
Marlena: What are you trying to do to me?
Crystal: You'll be together again.
Hope: I'll tell you what -- why don't we go and see if this psychic is for real, okay? Let's do that.
E.J.: Samantha, please. You don't have anything to fear from me. If I'd wanted to take Johnny, I could have done it time and time again. But I didnít.
Sami: That doesn't mean you wonít.
E.J.: All right, look. I would love to look after those children, but if this is going to make you uneasy, then by all means, please, call somebody else who you trust. But get a move on 'cause Lucas doesn't have a lot of time.
Sami: E.J. wait. Their bottles are in the fridge. Everything's on the changing table. The pediatrician's number is on speed dial.
E.J.: What made you change your mind?
Sami: I don't know. You know what? If you do anything that hurts my children... you won't live to regret it. [Door closes]
Stephanie: Your mom is here with the forensics guy, upstairs. They're searching around. They're gonna be down here any second.
Chelsea: Just calm down. Everything is gonna be fine.
Stephanie: What was that?
Chelsea: It's just Max. Look, we need you to do something for us, okay? I just called the maintenance guy.
Chelsea: Be-- just trust me, okay? As soon as he gets here, I need you to tell him to go check the front porch light, okay? That way he'll use the ladder.
Stephanie: What does that have to do with anything?
Chelsea: Don't worry. Just make sure that you stall him as long as possible.
Stephanie: What's going on down there?
Chelsea: I said don't worry. Make sure you tell me as soon as my mom and the cop come down.
Rolf: He's not inside. I even checked the kitchen and the restroom. Stefano, if I might suggest something --
Stefano: We must find him, Rolf, before he shows his face.
Marlena: Oh, here it is.
Hope: It doesn't look like anyone's here.
Marlena: Hello? Anybody there? Could you open the door, please? Hello?
Hope: Marlena, we can come back later.
Marlena: No, wait. Crystal, are you in there? Crystal?
Person: Ladies, can I help you?
Hope: Yeah, actually, we're looking for the psychic who works here.
Person: Nobody's working there. The building's empty.
Marlena: That's not possible. I was here on Christmas Day, and a woman named Crystal came out. She spoke to me.
Person: No one's been inside that building for months. It's been condemned.
Lucas: I'm not afraid of Stefano.
Kate: Well, you should be. You should be very afraid.
Lucas: Why? What's the worst that can happen?
Kate: He could kill you, Lucas.
Lucas: Fine. I don't care. Let him kill me.
Kate: Oh, God, Lucas.
Lucas: What's gonna happen, Mom? He and E.J. are gonna approach Sami at my funeral?
Kate: Don't be morbid.
Lucas: What's he gonna do, pull up a chair, negotiate Johnny's smooth transition into the DiMera family?
Kate: Do you really think that they care what Sami thinks? Do you think they're gonna ask her permission to kidnap your child?
Lucas: You've made him mad. You made Stefano mad plenty of times. You're still breathing.
Kate: Stefano's affections are kind of like the tides. They come and they go. And his warm memories of me are not enough to make him say bye-bye to his grandson. And shooting Elvis? Well, believe me, that wiped the slate clean.
Lucas: You know what? That's all the more reason for me to stay. I got to make sure that Sami and E.J. work out an acceptable custody agreement so E.J. can't take Johnny out of this country.
Kate: A custody agreement with the DiMeras is worthless! That is worthless. How the hell are you going to protect your son when you're lying in a jail cell with a knife in your back?
Lucas: Nice. Paint a nice picture for me. Now who's being morbid?
Kate: I'm being realistic. I'm being realistic. And believe it or not, the only people I'm thinking about are you, your son, and Sami.
Lucas: All right, you're right. If I stay, Stefano's gonna declare open season on me. And I won't be any good to my kids or Sami if I'm dead.
Kate: Okay. There's the transport. Now duck down. [Car door closes]
Pilot: Miss Roberts? Philip Kiriakis sent me.
Kate: Well, good. You're on time.
Pilot: I was told there would be two passengers.
Kate: There are two passengers. [Knock on window] Get the luggage out of the car. We need to get out of here.
Lucas: All right.
Billie: Oh, gosh. Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.
Stephanie: It's okay. What's up?
Billie: Uh, I need you to help me out with something.
Billie: I want to know if you have the key to the attic upstairs.
Stephanie: Yes. Yeah. It's behind the killers poster.
Stephanie: The band.
Stephanie: It's in the hallway.
Billie: Right, right, right, right.
Stephanie: It's in the hallway.
Billie: Are you okay?
Stephanie: No worries.
Billie: All right.
[Doorbell rings] [Knock on door] [Doorbell rings]
Repair Man: Man, it's cold out here. I don't suppose you have any hot coffee?
Stephanie: No. Can you just fix the overhead light? I'll go make some.
Stephanie: The fix-it guy's here.
Max: Yeah? And he stood on Billie's ladder?
Max: Perfect. Okay. Are you gonna be okay?
Stephanie: I just want this to be over.
Max: It is.
Billie: Steph. Uh, we're ready to look down in the basement.
Marlena: Look, I know what I saw. A psychic came out of this building, and she spoke to me about John.
Hope: Marlena, I believe you.
Marlena: Okay, well, then, you're not about to have me taken away?
Hope: Not today. You remember too many details.
Marlena: How do we explain this?
Hope: Because someone is playing a very cruel joke on you.
Marlena: Who could it be?
Hope: Like I said earlier, it could possibly be Stefano.
Marlena: It's possible. I did threaten to kill him.
Hope: We need to find out who's doing this.
Marlena: No, no. There is no "we" in this. I'm not dragging you into this.
Hope: Why not?
Marlena: For one thing, Bo would never allow it.
Hope: Are you kidding me? Seriously? If Bo ever found out that someone is preying on your loss, he'll definitely be on board.
Marlena: You are such a good friend to me, Hope.
Hope: Of course. That's because you're such a good friend. Now, come on. Let's put our heads together and figure out who's doing this.
Marlena: You know, I... maybe Stefano... Hope, it was so real. She was so in tune. It was -- this is not me. I don't do things like this.
Stefano: I want all my men on the street all around town. And if my houseguest is not found immediately, I promise you, heads will roll. Finally. You know we've been going crazy looking for you? Has anyone seen you like that little boy with the ball?
Rolf: He needs a sedative.
Stefano: Rolf. All right. Bar all the doors. Secure all the windows and block off the tunnel. He must not escape again.
Rolf: I will not fail you.
Stefano: All right, here. Here. Use this. If he gets out of control, zap him with that, okay? Because a few volts and then he will relax. And then you can give him the needle.
Rolf: Have you considered having one of your men guard him? It seems our houseguest could be very dangerous.
Stefano: [Chuckles] I'm counting on it, Rolf. I am counting on it.
Kate: Hurry up. Lucas, we can't afford to be late.
Sami: Wait! Lucas! Lucas! Please don't go!
Billie: Sergeant Dodd wants to look downstairs.
Stephanie: Yeah. The door is right over there.
Billie: Ah! There you are.
Chelsea: Hey! I was just helping Max out with something.
Stephanie: They want to go look in the basement.
Chelsea: Yeah, go ahead. It's a little messy, though. We just got a new water heater installed.
Billie: Great. Thanks for the warning.
Stephanie: [Breathing heavily] Oh, God. I think I'm gonna have a panic attack.
Chelsea: Come here. It's okay. It's gonna be fine, I promise.
Billie: Did you find anything?
Dodd: I'm not sure.
Philip: I just came by to wish you a Happy New Year and to talk about our future.
Sami: Why is it too late?
Lucas: Because I've done something neither one of us can undo, something I got to pay for.
E.J.: Finish your threat. Are you going to do to me what you did to Renee?
