Hope: Careful, Kay. She's gonna wear you out, oh, my gosh. I completely remember this. Stephanie -- she wore this --
Kayla: On the Fancy Face at your party.
Hope: I remember it like it was yesterday. Your poor mom -- she got seasick. Remember -- Shawn D. fell overboard.
Kayla: That's right.
Hope: Thank God he had his life jacket on. You sure about giving these things away?
Kayla: Yeah. I think that they will look beautiful on this little princess -- maybe better than they did on Pocket. Just ask Steve.
Hope: Tsk. Oh, sweetie, you must miss him like crazy.
Kayla: Yeah, I do. But you know what? It was great having Sami's twins with us. It was sort of like a little fairy tale.
Hope: Yeah, only with E.J. as the big bad wolf huffing and puffing at your door to claim his son.
Kayla: Well, I think he had the wind knocked out of him when he showed up and the suite was quarantined. Funny how it was lifted right when Sami and Lucas showed up to get the twins.
Hope: How are Sami and Lucas doing?
Kayla: Well, I think they were --
Kayla: Oh. I think they were thrilled to get the twins, but it wasn't the happiest homecoming I've ever seen.
Hope: Yeah. I can't believe Sami is still going ahead with this crazy plan.
Kayla: I think she's more determined than ever since John's death.
Hope: Come to mommy. Come, Ciara. Come to mama. Come, my love. You know what? What I can't understand is divorcing Lucas to marry E.J. I keep hoping she'll come to her senses.
Kayla: I don't think she's really thought it out.
Hope: It's not as if she doesn't know what's gonna happen. You've all told her.
Kayla: I think she just believes that she loves Lucas so much that it will withstand anything.
Hope: Well, I hope she's right. Who knows? Maybe she is. Look what you and Steve have survived -- huh? -- All in the name of love.
Hope: You know what? As far as I can see, Sami and Lucas have been completely honest with each other ever since the marrying-E.J. idea first came up.
Kayla: Well, then everything should work out. Lies are, uh, what destroy love, anyway.
Hope: Hmm. Not always. Sometimes the truth can be just as deadly.
[Knock on door]
Belle: Who is it?
Philip: It's Philip.
Belle: What do you want?
Philip: I was hoping to take Claire to story time at the library.
Belle: Well, my mom needed some cheering up, so Claire's with her for a few days. Sorry you wasted a trip.
Philip: I assume Shawn's not here.
Belle: He'll be back any minute.
Philip: Okay if I come in?
Belle: No, it's not okay.
Philip: We need to talk –
Belle: There's nothing to talk about.
Philip: We made love. Everything's changed.
Belle: One thing's changed. I hate myself.
Philip: You shouldn’t. You didn't do anything wrong.
Belle: Well, I doubt Hope would agree with you.
Flynn: Shawn, there are two kinds of cops -- the by-the-book officers like your Uncle Roman and the rule breakers like your old man here. Which style fits you?
Shawn D.: I haven't really thought about it, sir.
Flynn: Whoever wrote this letter has. The board of trustees, in reviewing your application, took great exception to your defying a court order.
Shawn D.: There are extenuating circumstances.
Flynn: Taking your wife and child and fleeing the country, traveling with false passports, jumping ship to avoid arrest.
Shawn D.: On paper, I know that it looks bad, but if you hear the whole story, you'll see that it's not so black and white.
Bo: Why don't you let him go before the board, tell them his side of the story?
Flynn: They've already discussed the letter and reviewed Shawn's case. I'm sorry, son, but you won't be part of this year's graduating class.
Hope: And I was worried about her wearing you out. Steve's fast asleep. Oh, my gosh. This is gonna look so adorable on her.
Kayla: You know what you just said about the truth destroying love? What were you talking about? I mean, it just sounded so ominous. Who were you talking about?
Hope: Nobody. It was nothing.
Hope: I walked in on... something at Belle and Shawn's. It was bad.
Kayla: Do you want to tell me what it is? Sometimes when you hold these things inside, they seem so much more serious.
Hope: Belle slept with Philip.
Kayla: What? You walked in on them?
Hope: I walked in afterward. Philip was gone, but I knew what had happened. Belle was -- she was in her robe. Obviously had been crying, obviously looking guilty as hell. The sheets -- they were ripped off the bed. The room was a mess. There was a broken vase on the floor, for crying out loud.
Kayla: Did she admit it to you?
Hope: She said it would never happen again. I was so angry. I was so disappointed.
Kayla: You have every right to be. She cheated on your son. So this is what you meant by "the truth can destroy love." You haven't told Shawn, have you?
Kayla: He would be devastated.
Kayla: You know, you were protecting your son. That is completely natural.
Hope: Protecting Shawn means covering for Belle.
Kayla: Well, unfortunately, these things have a way of getting out.
Hope: Believe me, I know.
Kayla: Well, have you considered talking to Bo or Marlena about this?
Hope: Endlessly. Poor Marlena is mourning. She's grieving over the loss of John, and Bo -- he's -- well -- I promised Belle that I'd keep my mouth shut.
Kayla: But you told me.
Hope: I promised that I wouldn't tell Shawn.
Kayla: But you didn't promise that you wouldn't tell Bo, and this involves his son, too. It's not just Belle. And you know what? Bo hates secrets. You know that.
Hope: You're telling me? Of course I know that.
Kayla: Look at it this way. Shawn and Bo are a family. Belle's his fiancé. It's not the same. Maybe they shouldn't even get married.
Hope: What? No, no, no. She's the mother of my granddaughter.
Kayla: [Sighs] But maybe it's not what she wants.
Hope: No. It is. It is. It's what she wants. She said that it's Shawn that she loves.
Kayla: And yet she just slept with Philip.
Hope: [Sighs] Okay. I know what I have to do -- tell Bo.
Kayla: Except --
Hope: Don't do that. Don't do that. What?
Kayla: Except maybe telling Bo is the worst decision you could make.
Shawn D.: So that's it? I'm finished at the academy before I even begin?
Flynn: Nothing's set in stone.
Shawn D.: My dad and Uncle Roman can vouch for me.
Flynn: Family connections within the department might hurt you more than help.
Bo: What? The board is worried about charges of nepotism?
Flynn: Detective Brady, your half-cop, half-cowboy routines have brought a lot of heat down on the department.
Bo: That's me. My record isn't clean, but I got a few commendations along the way.
Flynn: More than a few.
Bo: My son shouldn't suffer because of my record.
Flynn: Believe me, your son's paying for his own mistakes.
Shawn D.: Look, sir, I've made some stupid mistakes. I know.
Flynn: You defied a court order, stole a truck, allowed a mentally unstable man to drive you to the Canadian Border. You were arrested for public drunkenness.
Shawn D.: That part I faked, sir.
Flynn: Boarded a boat using false documents, assaulted a ship's officer, jumped ship with your minor child, who could not swim.
Shawn D.: Belle and I were just trying to protect our daughter from Philip Kiriakis.
Flynn: Who, as I understand it, had legal custody of your daughter at the time.
Shawn D.: Because he paid a witness to lie on the stand. His plan was to take Claire and disappear.
Flynn: No one, least of all a policeman, may take the law into their own hands. It makes the entire department suspect in people's minds.
Shawn D.: I get that.
Bo: So do I..
Flynn: Indications are that Shawn doesn't play by the rules. Shades of his father.
Shawn D.: Are you kidding me? My dad's a great cop.
Flynn: I agree, but Salem's Police Force only has room for one cowboy, and Bo owns that title.
Bo: Okay. He can't wear a uniform this rotation. What about come January?
Flynn: We're willing to reconsider his application.
Bo: So him being booted from the squad isn't necessarily permanent?
Flynn: As I said, nothing's set in stone. There are mitigating factors. The board is aware that Victor and Philip Kiriakis set you and Belle up to look like unfit parents, so we're willing to reconsider your application come the first of the year.
Bo: Okay. What can he do in the meantime to shore up his chances?
Flynn: For starters, demonstrate that you're prepared to accept authority. Show that you got the right stuff -- the attitude to be one of Salem's finest -- that you've matured beyond the events detailed in this letter.
Shawn D.: How do I do that?
Bo: He could pinch-hit at the station. Do filing, phone calls, whatever needs to be done.
Shawn D.: What do you think, sir?
Flynn: A show of good will -- a willingness to suck it up and get the job done. Points earned.
Shawn D.: Well, thank you for not cutting me loose and giving me a second chance.
Flynn: You're gonna have to earn it.
Shawn D.: I will.
Flynn: By the way, how'd you earn those bruises?
Shawn D.: He started it, and I finished it.
Flynn: I hope you gave as good as you got.
Shawn D.: You better believe I did.
Flynn: Good. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have other concerns to deal with.
Bo: Yes, sir. Thank you.
Shawn D.: Thank you. Hey, who you calling?
Bo: Abe. We got to get you set up. You were just given a second chance. You got to grab and run with it.
Shawn D.: Dad, I can't wait until January.
Bo: You can't wait a couple of months?
Shawn D.: No. Belle's in college. We got no money coming in. I need work like yesterday.
Bo: Your mom and I can help you out till you're on your feet.
Shawn D.: I know, and I'm grateful, but I need to take care of my family on my own, and I would be if Philip hadn't killed my chances.
Philip: What does Hope have to do with us?
Belle: She was here after you left.
Philip: You told her?
Belle: I didn't have to. She knew.
Philip: What, all of a sudden Hope's clairvoyant?
Belle: Philip, anyone with eyes could see what happened in here. There was a broken vase on the floor, the sheets were tangled, my hair was a mess, I wasn't wearing anything under my robe. And the harder I worked to pretend things were normal, the guiltier I looked.
Philip: Guilt's a waste of emotion. We didn't do anything wrong.
Belle: We made love in the bed that I share with my fiancé.
Philip: Let's do it again.
Belle: Are you crazy? I promised Hope that I would never do that again.
Philip: This isn't about Hope.
Belle: You're right. This is about Shawn and my love for him and my commitment to him, so leave and don't come back for Claire or me or anyone else.
Philip: I'll go. But first you have to forget about that promise you made and Hope, okay? Look at me, Belle. Tell me to my face the man you want is Shawn.
Bo: To start with, you don't know for sure that Philip wrote that letter.
Shawn D.: Come on, Dad.
Bo: You suspect him and with good reason, but you don't have proof.
Shawn D.: He didn't write his name, but it had his signature all over it.
Bo: You know what, man? You got to start thinking like a cop.
Shawn D.: I am. You go by your gut, and my gut says that Philip wrote that letter to make me look like a loser to Belle.
Bo: So what if he wrote it? The letter didn't ruin your plans. It just put them on hold.
Shawn D.: So, what are you saying? Are you saying that I should just let this slide?
Bo: I'm saying you have an opportunity here to prove to the board you've got what it takes to be a good cop, or you can continue this childish battle with Philip. You can't do both.
Shawn D.: The guy never misses a chance to make me look bad. I'm supposed to ignore that? Come on. Could you?
Bo: If my future depended on it, yeah.
Shawn D.: Be serious here. Come on.
Bo: Okay. Fine. You're right. I couldn’t. But you're smarter than me. You can learn from my mistakes. You got to know -- one more battle with him could cost you the future you want.
Kayla: You can't tell Bo. I just realized that if you tell Bo, all hell's gonna break lose.
Hope: That's a chance I have to take. That horrible year after Zack died, all those secrets that got buried to keep the peace, to protect our loved ones, I -- they took on a life of their own. Kay, I came so close to losing my husband. I've got to tell Bo the truth.
Kayla: You know Bo's temper as well as I do.
Hope: His temper I can handle.
Kayla: Do you think that he'll tell Shawn?
Hope: Possibly. Okay, damn it, what do I do? Just tell me, what do I do?
Kayla: I think that you keep Belle's secret for now -- for now. She's young. She made a mistake. Give her a chance to get Philip out of her life.
Hope: What if she doesn't want him to go?
Philip: Say it right to my face, Belle. Tell me you want Shawn, not me, and I'll go.
Belle: I want Shawn. Now leave.
Philip: That would have been a little more convincing if you had slammed the door in my face.
Belle: You said you'd go.
Philip: The temptation of an open door was too much.
Belle: So you lied to me.
Philip: You lied to me. You don't Shawn.
Belle: Don't tell me what I want. I love Shawn, and I have since high school.
Philip: We're not in high school anymore, honey.
Philip: You've grown into an amazing woman. That year we were married was the happiest of my life.
Belle: That time is over and gone.
Philip: We went back when we made love.
Belle: What we did was wrong, and it won't happen again.
Philip: Don't say things you don't mean.
Belle: I mean it! I am not gonna risk losing Shawn. Now, get out and leave me alone.
Philip: I'll leave when you admit to yourself and to me that these feelings are real. They won't go away. Pretending they will is impossible.
Belle: Philip, Shawn is gonna be back any minute. You have to get out of here.
Philip: I'll stay and say hi.
Belle: Are you nuts? Shawn is jealous enough as it is.
Philip: One of the few things he got right in his life.
Belle: If he comes in here and finds me like this --
Philip: He'll think we made love. The only thing stopping us is Shawn and that robe. We can take care of one of those things right now.
Belle: If you love me so much, why are you doing this to me? Just go -- now. I have to get dressed.
Philip: Be my guest.
Belle: [Scoffs] God. You know, nothing that you can say will change the way I feel about Shawn, so just save your breath. You should just go back to Titan and raid a corporation or something and leave him alone.
Philip: You are so damn stubborn.
Belle: I wouldn't have to be so damn stubborn if you grew a conscience. You know, who are you to tell me what I need or what I want or what's right for me?
Philip: Because I know you... as well as I know myself, Belle.
Belle: You don't have a clue. I only slept with you --
Philip: Because you needed me.
Belle: [Scoffs] You took advantage of my grief. I lost my father. I was vulnerable, and you used that to get me into bed.
Philip: You were there. You and I both know it wasn't just a roll in the hay.
Belle: What happened was a mistake, and I wish --
Hope: Wow, time goes by so fast.
Kayla: Ciara was fussy?
Hope: It's a little game we play. She throws the binky out of the crib, cries. Mommy comes running. We go a few rounds, and then -- you know, sometimes I get so irritated, and I think, "oh, my God, Hope, stop. Enjoy every moment, because, before you know it, she's gonna be all grown up." Life goes by so fast.
Kayla: Yeah. Trade the binkies and the bunnies for the adult problems.
Hope: Yeah. Shawn's certainly had his share.
Kayla: But you still love him to pieces.
Hope: Of course.
Kayla: That's why you got to keep this to yourself, Hope.
Hope: Oh, my God, Kay. If I do that, if he finds out... he'll never forgive me.
Kayla: This isn't just about protecting him from heartache. It's about saving him from himself.
Shawn D.: Dad, come on. You know as well as I do that Philip is the one who wrote that letter to the board.
Bo: So what? You still got a shot at being a cop.
Shawn D.: I know. I heard Commander Flynn. But now I got to go home to Belle. We're supposed to be celebrating. Damn, I hate giving her bad news.
Bo: Hey, come on. She's a tough cookie. She'll be okay.
Shawn D.: Yeah, I know she is. She's amazing. But right before the holidays -- the timing couldn't be any worse.
Bo: Yeah, I get that, but what are the holidays really about?
Shawn D.: Love, family, and being together.
Bo: Mm-hmm. And you have all that.
Shawn D.: I'd still like to rip Philip a new one.
Bo: I understand, but if you do, there goes your future as a cop.
Shawn D.: Dad, Philip is trying to make me look incompetent.
Bo: Well, don't make it easy for him, man. If you rip him a new one, who do you think's gonna get Belle's sympathies?
Shawn D.: Philip's gonna play it for all it's worth.
Bo: And you know he's gonna press charges. All the volunteer work in the world won't get you into the academy.
Shawn D.: Yeah, well, I think that's history, anyways.
Bo: If that's how you really feel...you've got no business being a cop.
Belle: I cannot believe you just did that!
Philip: Was it just me?
Belle: [Scoffs] You don't fight fair.
Philip: I'd rather make love than war. We always got that right.
Belle: Just get out.
Philip: There's only one way to get rid of me. Admit what's going on with us, and don't use Shawn to play defense.
Belle: [Scoffs] You want the truth? I can live without you, but I can't live without this.
Hope: Protect Shawn from himself? Are you kidding me? Easier said than done. He's not a little boy anymore, Kay.
Kayla: No. He is a young man faced with a very bad situation.
Hope: A bad situation that he doesn't even know about.
Kayla: I thought that Shawn and Philip had a friendly rivalry.
Hope: It hasn't been friendly for a while.
Kayla: Shawn is just like Bo, and he has a very short fuse.
Hope: Wait a second. Shawn is not the one making problems here. Belle and Philip are the issue, not my son.
Kayla: Except for his fiancé just slept with her ex.
Hope: He's gonna be devastated if he finds out.
Kayla: He's also gonna rip Philip apart when he finds out. Mom told me that, that fight they had at the pub -- she swears that if she didn't get right in the middle of them, one of them was gonna end up in traction.
Hope: It wasn't Shawn's fault. It wasn’t. Philip pushed him to it.
Kayla: Imagine what's gonna happen when he finds out. What is he gonna do to Philip?
Philip: Is this supposed to make me feel guilty?
Belle: That's not possible for someone without a conscience.
Philip: You didn't used to see me that way.
Belle: You didn't used to act this way.
Philip: The only honest moment we shared is in that bad.
Belle: How many times do I need to say it? It was a mistake.
Philip: Was everything a mistake, Belle? I remember a photo just like this being taken of you, me, and Claire. We were this happy family.
Belle: Get over it. I have.
Philip: Really? You don't miss us? You never think back on the good times...or when we almost lost Claire? We held each other up, cried together, prayed together. I've never felt so close to anyone in my life. This used to be us.
Belle: Nothing gets through to you. You just remember what you want to. Do you remember when we found out that Shawn was Claire's father, because that changed everything?
Philip: And Shawn has every right to be a part of Claire's life, but you were my wife -- not his.
Belle: Well, you walked out.
Philip: I almost didn’t. Did you know that? At the airport, as I was getting on the plane, I turned back. But I knew it wasn't fair to you.
Belle: What's fair about running out on our marriage?
Philip: Nothing, but I wasn't thinking straight! When I found out Claire wasn't mine, it blew me out of the water!
Belle: You don't think it hit me, too, that I could have used some of the support you're so eager to offer me now?!
Philip: You didn't want me.
Belle: You didn't ask.
Philip: You ran home to your folks.
Belle: Maybe I wanted you to come after me.
Philip: I did.
Belle: And when I didn't throw my arms around you, you left without saying goodbye. You had Lucas deliver divorce papers -- like the divorce and I were just something you wanted to cross off your to-do list. I never felt more worthless or unwanted in my life!
Philip: Belle, I had no idea.
Belle: Because you didn't stick around to ask. I waited for you to call or e-mail -- nothing. It's just like I was dead to you when you found out Claire wasn't yours.
Philip: I thought you wanted Shawn.
Belle: Did you ask me? My life was in a free fall, and I needed someone there to catch me, and you know who was there? You know who stepped up for me? Shawn.
Philip: Hey, Shawn was with Willow.
Belle: Well, I pushed him into that. I wanted him to prove that he was the man that Claire and I needed him to be, and he did it. He was great with Claire. He was there for whatever we needed. He didn't abandon me. You did that.
Philip: I wish I would have known. I'm sorry. Okay? I apologize.
Belle: Then we'll forget it. It's over.
Philip: I never meant to hurt you.
Belle: You did, and I want you to leave now.
Philip: We've made mistakes -- both of us -- but it's not too late to fix things.
Belle: Just go! [Sniffles]
Philip: You really don't want me to leave.
Belle: Yes, I do. Shawn's gonna be here any minute. Do you love me?
Philip: More than ever.
Belle: Then get the hell out of my life.
Shawn D.: Hey, if I get a shot at being a cop, I'm gonna be a damn good one.
Bo: Not if you make things personal.
Shawn D.: Philip wrote a letter that basically trashed my future. I may never get into the academy because of him.
Bo: Turn things around and shove it in his face.
Shawn D.: He's done everything he can to try to make me look like a failure to Belle.
Bo: Has she told you that?
Shawn D.: No. Of course not. She knows the score, but my point is, how am I not supposed to take this personally?
Bo: By looking at the facts. You don't know for sure he wrote that letter.
Shawn D.: Dad, get real.
Bo: Show me the proof.
Shawn D.: I don't need proof.
Bo: Okay, so you don't want to be a cop. You want to be judge and jury.
Shawn D.: Okay, fine. I don't have any proof, but can you honestly say that it could have been anyone else?
Bo: It doesn't matter who wrote the letter. That's not what ruined your chances. It's what was in that letter -- things that should have been on your application.
Shawn D.: But Philip never pressed any charges.
Bo: You broke the law, man. You defied a court order. That's major. And if you hadn't have done any of those things, Philip wouldn't have anything to hold over you. You'd be out there training right now.
Shawn D.: Instead of filing and making coffee.
Bo: What, you too good for that?
Shawn D.: No, that's not what I meant. What I meant was I would be at the academy taking classes and training -- going forward with my career.
Bo: Well, you can still do that. The commander cut you a break. Now it's up to you.
Shawn D.: Okay, I get it. I made the mistakes. It's up for me to prove to them that I'm not that guy anymore.
Bo: Finally. Listen. I'm not saying you're totally wrong. There were extenuating circumstances here. But you did what you did, and Commander Flynn made it clear that you're just paying for your mistakes.
Shawn D.: Yeah. I did. I just hate seeing Philip walk away from this laughing.
Bo: Well, it burns me, too, but you don't want to make the same kind of mistakes that landed you on the spit list, do you?
Shawn D.: No, of course not.
Bo: Good. So grab ahold of this second chance. I mean, 'cause if you grind Philip's face into the ground and your future falls apart, you got no one to blame but yourself.
Shawn D.: You sure ain't pulling any punches.
Bo: I'm telling you what you need to hear.
Shawn D.: But you could hardly blame me for wanting to go after Philip.
Bo: I don't blame you at all. I'd do the same thing. Did way too much of that when I was your age.
Shawn D.: But I shouldn’t.
Bo: I had a chip on my shoulder the size of Montana. But finally pop grabbed ahold of me, shook some sense into me. I'm trying to pass some of that good sense on down to you.
Shawn D.: Don't repeat your mistakes.
Bo: Don't repeat yours. Don't let Philip push you into doing something that hurts you worse than him or your chances of being a cop are history. Belle's counting on you to get this right.
Shawn D.: Yeah. She hates it when I lose my temper.
Bo: A good reason not to.
Shawn D.: [Exhales deeply] Thanks, Dad. Well, I guess I'm gonna go break the news to Belle.
Bo: All right. Let's get out of here.
Philip: I mean, you can tell yourself you love Shawn. Live the lie. Even convince yourself you believe it.
Belle: It's true.
Philip: Well, lucky Shawn. He gets the girl, only she's in love with another man. That's a truth you don't want to face.
Belle: I love Shawn, and that's the truth you don't want to face.
Philip: [Exhales deeply] You know, I learned a lot being a soldier.
Belle: Just go.
Philip: What it's like under enemy fire, the difference between life and death, only a bullet or a land mine away. You got to think fast, rely on your training. Even that's no guarantee you'll make it out alive.
Belle: Why are you telling me this?
Philip: When I lost my leg, lying on the battlefield -- broken, bleeding -- it's not true what they say. My life didn't flash before my eyes. I only saw you. It was the same with the injuries to my face. Memories of you laughing, giving birth to Claire. [Sighs] I ached for one more day with you. And what I learned at war was that life comes at a cost. Nothing is free. You spend it one day at a time. And I won't spend the rest of mine watching you waste your life on Shawn. [Cellphone ringing]
Belle: Philip, just go away, please. It's Hope. Philip, I'm begging you -- go.
Philip: It's okay. Unless Hope's a psychic, she won't know I'm here.
Belle: She's gonna hear it in my voice.
Philip: Because you can't hide how you feel about me.
Belle: Because I told her what happened would never be repeated -- that it would never happen again.
Philip: Well, maybe, like me, she didn't believe you.
Belle: Philip, it was sex. That's all it was. I felt sorry for you for having to give up Tyler, and I felt sorry for myself.
Philip: You know and I know it wasn't mercy sex. You wanted me as much as I wanted you.
Belle: Stop it. I don't want to hear any more of this.
Philip: Belle, you reached out for me -- touched me, kissed me. That wasn't charity. It was love.
Belle: Just believe whatever you want.
Philip: Easy enough. When it comes to down to me and Shawn...I'm the one you want.
Kayla: No answer?
Kayla: Well, maybe Belle is in class or in the library or something.
Hope: Or with Philip.
Kayla: Come on. Don't go there. You gave Belle the benefit of the doubt when you didn't tell Shawn.
Hope: I did that for Shawn.
Kayla: And because you believed that Belle wasn't gonna let this happen again. That's what you said.
Hope: I can't believe that she slept with Philip. She betrayed Shawn.
Kayla: Listen, we are pulled in different directions in our life. You know that.
Hope: I know. I know.
Kayla: Well, things happen, and Belle and Philip have a history.
Hope: Shawn and Belle have a history, as well.
Kayla: She said she made a mistake and she regrets it.
Hope: Which still leaves me with a big, fat secret, and I hate it. Keeping secrets from Bo and Shawn -- it terrifies me. You know your brother.
Kayla: Well, I think you have to have faith that Belle is gonna come to her senses.
Hope: God, I hope you're right. I hope she does and steers clear of Philip.
Kayla: You know, maybe you should just relax, because -- you know what? -- Shawn is a match any day of the week for Philip.
Hope: I don't think he believes that right now. Philip certainly throws money around -- and a lot of it.
Kayla: I think you have to trust that he can stand up for himself.
Hope: Poor Shawn. He never gets a break.
Kayla: Well, that's all gonna change now. Look, he's been accepted into the police academy. No. Come on, now. Come on. He is Bo's son. He's Roman's nephew. There is no way he is not gonna be put back in the police department. Once he's a cop again, he and Belle can get married. They can get their own house, have a little privacy, and -- who knows? -- Maybe another baby.
Hope: You sold me, and I hope you're right.
Kayla: Yeah, besides, there is no way that Philip could keep Shawn from being a cop.
Bo: Hey. Somebody did. That anonymous letter slamming Shawn did its job. The board's not letting him continue.
Bo: The board gave Shawn the boot based on what was in that letter.
Hope: A letter that someone was too cowardly to sign their name to.
Bo: Yeah, but the contents can't be denied. But Shawn's gonna get another shot at the beginning of the year if he doesn't blow it first.
Kayla: How could he do that?
Bo: By not taking responsibility for what was in that letter. See, he blames Philip for all the bad things that are happening to him, including the letter. He was about to go after Philip. I had to talk him down.
Kayla: Well, um, Hope will have to give you the same pep talk I gave her. I got to get to work. I'll be in touch.
Bo: Okay. Later, sis. Fancy Face, our biggest problem here is that Shawn thinks Philip's targeting him.
Hope: Maybe he is.
Bo: What do you mean by that?
Hope: I need to tell you something, but before I tell you, I need for you to promise me that you're not gonna go off the handle.
Bo: This does not sound good.
Hope: It's not good. Just please promise me that we're gonna talk it over before you go crazy.
Bo: How can I promise you anything if I don't know what it is?
Hope: Then I can't tell you.
Bo: [Sighs] Okay. I promise.
Hope: Belle slept with Philip.
Bo: She what?
Belle: Philip, your ego is amazing. I don't belong to you.
Philip: You belong with me.
Belle: No, I don’t. Shawn is the man that I want to be with.
Philip: We made love.
Belle: Because at that moment, I needed someone's arms around me. I had just buried my father.
Philip: That's what people in love do, Belle. They comfort each other. They go to the person that makes them feel safe. Whatever this is, it's not friendship.
Shawn D.: Hey, Belle.
Bo: Belle slept with Philip? It's – I don't believe this.
Hope: You mean you don't want to believe it. Neither did I.
Bo: How long have you known?
Hope: Not very long.
Bo: How long?
Hope: Maybe -- I don't know -- barely 24 hours, maybe a little bit longer. Brady, wait.
Bo: I told Shawn not to go after Philip even if he did write that damn letter, and now you tell me this? Hell, I'll go after him myself.
Hope: Bo, wait! Calm down.
Bo: Shawn was right. Philip's doing everything he can to make him look pathetic. He's got to know about this.
Hope: And then what? What's gonna happen? Huh? Shawn nearly took his head off when he found out Philip was alone with her. How do you think he's gonna react when he finds out he slept with her?
Belle: Hey, honey. How was your day? How did your meeting with the commander go?
Philip: I'm out of here.
Shawn D.: What's the rush, buddy? Don't you want to stick around, hear how my meeting went? This is my future we're talking about here, except I don't have one -- not with the academy, anyways -- because somebody wrote an anonymous letter saying that I don't have what it takes.
Belle: Oh, Shawn.
Philip: Tough break.
Shawn D.: So, why'd you do it? To get Belle back?
Philip: If I wanted to kill your chances at the academy, I would have written a big, fat check and told them to cut me a favor. I don't do anonymous.
Shawn D.: Don't play me for a fool. I know you wrote that letter.
Philip: You don't know jack about anything.
Belle: That's it. You're going. Shawn, don’t.
Shawn D.: I tried to just let it go, but Philip played dirty and not let me get goaded into going after him, but it's obvious he's not gonna stop unless I stop him myself.
Belle: Would you stop it? Philip didn't write that letter. I did.
Lucas: I don't know how to let you go. I can’t. I don't know how to do it.
Morgan: That's why I'm here -- to give you a chance to say, "I told you so."
Chelsea: Something wrong?
Jett: You could say that. We got a problem with Ford Decker -- he may end up getting away with rape.
