Steve: Stephanie, what's wrong?
Stephanie: May I come in?
Steve: "May I come in?" Come on, baby.
Stephanie: I could really use a hug right now, Papa. I didn't know where else to go.
Steve: Come here, baby. Oh, baby.
Steve: I got you.
Lucas: Good. Good girl.
Sami: Lucas, I can't get my mind off that leather folio. I wish we had gotten our hands on it.
Lucas: Relax. We don't even know what was in it.
Sami: We know it was important to André -- so important that he was desperate to keep it.
Lucas: Julie drop off the letters?
Sami: Yeah. I thought we could...read them.
Lucas: No. Not me. I'm done.
Sami: Lucas, what is going on with you?
Lucas: I am sick of the damn letters, and I am sick of every last DiMera, Sami.
E.J.: I'm terribly sorry. Obviously I came at a bad time.
Bo: How is he?
Tony: He's stable.
Bo: Can we talk? The doc says Rolf's insisting on Stefano being released immediately. I need him here in the hospital. Can you help me with that?
Bo: I need him someplace where I can get to him easily.
Bo: I'm gonna kill him.
Tony: Bo, are you out of your mind?
Bo: No, no. It's a con to bring André in. We make it look like we offed the old man. We stage a funeral. When André comes in to exact his revenge, we nab him.
Tony: Well, I don't care how believable you try to make this. But the Bradys are not cold-blooded killers and André knows that.
Bo: Hey, if it weren't for this badge, I would have killed him many times.
Tony: If you're gonna make this work, you've got to find someone that André will believe is capable of murder. I think I have the perfect candidate.
Tony: Steve Johnson.
Stephanie: I really didn't want to run to you. But I couldn't think of anybody else to talk to.
Stephanie: Really. It's about Jeremy.
Steve: Okay. What's Jeremy doing now?
Stephanie: He's smuggling girls into the country.
Steve: What? Oh, my God. What? Just girls?
Steve: [Chuckles] Well, I guess we know what that's about.
Stephanie: He swears he just thought he was giving these girls a chance to live the American dream. He's really trying to fix things.
Steve: Really? How's he doing that? Did he go to the cops and cut some kind of deal?
Stephanie: No. Look, you can yell at me now and tell me how dumb and naive I am, running around like some air head, acting like Jeremy was this perfect guy.
Steve: Listen, this isn't your fault, and you're not an air head. I got to ask you something. Don't blow. Did you know anything about any of this before?
Stephanie: No. I swear. And it's okay to say I told you so.
Steve: I don't want to do that. Come here. I love you a lot more than I love being right.
Stephanie: I love you, too, Papa.
Steve: Now, listen, you got to promise me something. Until we know exactly what's going on, you got to steer clear of Jeremy Horton.
Lucas: It's always a bad time when you show up. Why don't you get lost?
Sami: You're supposed to be resting, E.J.
E.J.: You know, actually, I feel wonderful after my time in the steam room. I'm fully refreshed, toxin-free. I, um, I really came by to thank you, Lucas.
Lucas: Yeah, well, I regret it already. [Cellphone rings] It's my mom.
Sami: Great. Answer it before she storms the place.
Lucas: I'll just be a sec, okay? Yeah, Mom, what do you need?
E.J.: Uh, look, Samantha, I really didn't mean to set Lucas off.
Sami: Oh, right, 'cause he never objects to you showing up.
E.J.: Look, I would be just as irrational if I'd almost lost you.
Sami: Goodbye, E.J.
E.J.: So, how are the babies doing?
Sami: They are perfectly healthy, thanks.
E.J.: They're obviously very strong, like their mother, eh?
Sami: That was quick.
E.J.: Is everything all right with Kate?
Lucas: Well, she's convinced that André's after her. So I'm gonna go over there.
Sami: Well, hurry back, okay?
Lucas: Okay, you [Clears throat] I'll help you back to your room.
E.J.: That's awfully kind of you, Lucas, but I think I can manage on my own.
Lucas: It wasn't a request. Let's go.
E.J.: Later, perhaps.
Lucas: Perhaps not.
Lucas: I want you to stay away from Sami. She doesn't need your visits or your concern. You got that?
E.J.: Okay, well, it's time for my sponge bath anyway, so... right, well, let's hope the nurses are cute, eh?
E.J.: Well...maybe now we can have a civilized conversation.
Sami: What, you just enjoy trying to annoy Lucas?
E.J.: Yes, actually, I do. Rather more than I care to admit.
Sami: You know, he deserves your respect. He saved your life. The least you can do is try not to get under his skin.
E.J.: I have no interest in getting under Lucas' skin, in case our kiss in the steam room didn't refresh your memory.
Sami: What kiss? What are you talking about?
E.J.: You felt it, Samantha.
Sami: Felt what?
E.J.: The passion. I didn't just imagine that.
Lucas: What, a little too bright in here for you, Mother?
Kate: I'm trying to be inconspicuous.
Lucas: Ah. By wearing sunglasses inside? What's going on? What? What happened?
Kate: [Sighs] Andre tried to kill me today.
Lucas: What? Where?
Kate: I left this morning to get into the elevator and nearly plunged to my death because the elevator shaft was open.
Lucas: You got to be kidding me.
Kate: He's on to me, so the only thing I can hope now is that when he kills me, it's quick and it's painless.
Lucas: Come on, come on. Let's get to the police right now.
Kate: Oh, he'd really love that, Lucas.
Lucas: All right, fine. I'll take you home and we'll have the police meet us there.
Kate: Are you listen to me at all? He tried to kill me outside my suite.
Lucas: All right, all right. Maybe it's not the perfect solution, okay? I'm sorry. Do you want to come stay with us for a while just until they catch André?
Kate: Stay with you and Sami?
Lucas: Yeah, yeah, just until they nail the guy, you know.
Kate: Death by elevator shaft is looking better and better to me.
Sami: You must have spent too much time in that steam room because it sucked out your brain cells.
E.J.: Actually, the whole experience was rather surreal. I felt your lips on mine, and I mustered the strength to kiss you with all the life that I had left.
Sami: Why are you doing this, E.J.? I love my husband. I don't want you, not in my dreams, not in your dreams, not in the past, and certainly not in the present. What do I have to say to make you believe it?
E.J.: Why should I believe it, Samantha? You don't believe it yourself.
Bo: I don't know, man. Steve's just put his life back together. I don't want to mess with that.
Tony: But don't you think the best way to help Steve is to let him destroy those people who tried to destroy him?
Abe: Bo, you got a second?
Bo: Yeah, sure.
Bo: He's on board.
Abe: Roman just filled me in on your plan.
Bo: Yeah, um... Tony thinks Steve should be our triggerman.
Tony: I think we have to find someone that André would believe is capable of murdering Stefano, and that rules out the Bradys.
Abe: You know, Tony wasn't here when Steve hijacked John's kidney. Now, what if Steve flips out?
Bo: I think he can do this despite what he's done, what he's been through.
Abe: You know, you better be damn sure he can before you even think about putting Steve into play again.
Lucas: All right, talk to me. What are your options?
Kate: Well, um, Philip's out of town. He's not picking up his cell, so...
Lucas: So why don't you call Roman?
Kate: Roman's not my biggest fan these days.
Lucas: Why? What happened with him?
Kate: Well, I told him about what happened between me and you know who. And it's amazing how a man in a coma can have total recall.
Lucas: You told Roman that you and Stefano...
Kate: Yes. I thought by telling him somehow I would feel better.
Lucas: Well, why Roman?
Kate: Because, believe it or not, there was a time that... when I saw myself in Roman's eyes, I felt good. In fact, I felt pretty terrific. I wanted to have that feeling again.
Lucas: So you talked to a man in a coma.
Kate: Yeah. Yeah, because in my head, he was telling me that he understood and he wasn't judging me. But the trouble is he woke up.
Lucas: You know I understand, right? You know I'm not judging you.
Kate: Thank you.
Lucas: I know what you gave up to raise me.
Kate: I'd do it all over again in a minute.
Sami: Don't tell me what to believe.
E.J.: You know, Samantha, us DiMeras, we have a certain nose for self-deception.
Sami: Are you kidding me now? I don't love you, and I don't want you.
E.J.: No, no, quite. Of course you don't.
Sami: Would you please respect my feelings for once?
E.J.: I do respect your feelings. I just happen to respect your fancies a little bit more.
Sami: I am a happily married woman, E.J. I love my husband. I want to be a good wife and a good mother. That's all I want.
E.J.: See, that does rather prove my point, darling.
Sami: What does it prove, E.J.?
E.J.: That you are still the scheming little liar who can polish up a whopper and sell it on the open market as a God's honest truth.
Sami: It is the truth.
E.J.: Of course it is, darling. And I am a uncomplicated man who regrets all his past sins and simply wants to be with the woman that he adores.
Sami: That's an even bigger lie --
E.J.: Than what? Than what? My darling, if you suddenly morphed into a modern-day version of a Stepford wife, then I may just have to join the Rotary Club and run for office.
Sami: You're a pig.
E.J.: Thank you. There we go. That's the Samantha I know and love.
Stephanie: Jeremy swears he can fix this.
Stephanie: I'm not sure. Look, I know what he did was wrong, okay? But I don't think he deserves to go to jail.
Steve: Oh, so we just give him a medal for smuggling illegals into the country. Well?
Stephanie: Well, he didn't have to tell me, but he did.
Steve: Don't waste your sympathy on this guy. He's not worth it.
Stephanie: He loves me.
Steve: Is that what he told you? Was that before or after he confessed?
Stephanie: He meant it.
Steve: Okay, okay. Baby, I'm sorry. Of course he meant it. He'd have to be a damn fool not to fall head over heels in love with you.
Bo: Abe, Steve has been on the level for months now.
Abe: How many years of hell had to change him? What if something triggers an old memory or a command? We don't know what the hell would happen.
Doctor: Excuse me, Mr. DiMera.
Doctor: Dr. Cartman's finished meeting with Dr. Rolf. I'd like to talk to you about your father's prognosis.
Tony: Of course. Would you excuse me?
Abe: Look, Bo...I want to take down Stefano as much as anybody.
Bo: If Steve was having issues, Kay would have told me. Now, every second we waste gives André the advantage.
Abe: All right, all right. If you don't think Steve will crack, I'll green-light this sting.
Bo: Thanks, man.
Abe: Don't thank me yet. You still have to run this past Kayla, and if you think I'm tough to convince, she's gonna be damn-near impossible.
Tony: Yeah, hey. How are you?
Stefano: The surgery.
Tony: The surgery was a great success. You're gonna be fine.
Stefano: Ah. You hide your disappointment very well.
Tony: Are you in any pain?
Dr. Rolf: I'm having you released to my care.
Tony: Don't be foolish. You have to stay in the hospital just in case there's something wrong.
Tony: I promise nothing's going to happen to you.
Stefano: I'd be a fool indeed to trust you.
Tony: I'll prove you wrong.
Stefano: Why...all of a sudden this change of heart?
Tony: Because...despite every hurt and insult that we've hurtled at each other...I remain your son. Over the years, you've disappointed me as much as I've disappointed you. And if that does not make us a true father and son, I don't know what does.
Steve: So, the guy says he loves you.
Stephanie: He's really trying to change.
Steve: And you want to give him another chance, huh?
Stephanie: Yeah, but this time, I won't be so trusting. Never again.
Steve: Good. You steer clear of his trouble.
Stephanie: Will you help him if he needs it?
Steve: Well...okay. I'll help you. If that helps Jeremy, it helps Jeremy.
Stephanie: You are the best.
Steve: Oh, come on. You just remember it's not your job to fix his life.
Stephanie: Isn't that what you do when you love somebody? I got to go.
Steve: Hey, wait, wait, baby. Come on, stay a little while. Your mom should be right out.
Stephanie: I can't stay, but tell mom how much I love her, and I'll see you guys soon.
Steve: Hey, Stephanie. I got your back. Nobody messes with my little girl.
Stephanie: Thanks, Papa. I love you.
Kayla: I thought I heard Stephanie.
Steve: Yeah, you just missed her. Where's the little bundle?
Kayla: Well, he's still taking a nap, but I thought we were off-limits. Is everything okay?
Steve: Well, it seems like Jeremy's gotten himself into some more trouble.
Kayla: What kind of trouble?
Steve: Stephanie was a little light on the details, but he claims he can get himself out of it.
Kayla: And that's supposed to make us feel better?
Steve: Don't worry, baby. I'm on top of it.
[Knock on door]
Kayla: Maybe that's Stephanie. Hey, Stephan--
Bo: No, it's your brother. Need to talk to you about DiMera.
Kayla: W-w-what about him? [Baby crying]
Steve: Is that me or you, sweetness?
Kayla: I'll go, but I'll be right back, so just wait and talk when I get back.
Steve: Oh, yeah. We will. So, let me guess -- the old buzzard still lives.
Steve: Son of a bitch.
Bo: I filled Tony in on our plan to smoke André out of hiding.
Steve: Tony think you're out of your mind?
Bo: No, actually. He's all for it. In fact, he came up with a perfect assassin for the job. That'd be you, my friend.
Lucas: Hey. Here, sit down. I think that should help.
Kate: No. No alcohol.
Lucas: You must be scared.
Kate: I'm fine.
Lucas: All right. What do we do now?
Kate: Honey, this is not your problem.
Lucas: Yes, it is. It sort of is, Mom.
Kate: Why, because you called the SEC?
Lucas: Because you're my mother and I love you.
Kate: Okay, well, please remember to mention that at my eulogy.
Lucas: No one is gonna kill you, all right?
Kate: The day's young.
Roman: Well, you can always go back to sleeping with the enemy.
Kate: What the hell are you doing here?
Lucas: Don't get mad at him, all right? I called him.
Kate: I told you I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself.
Roman: Nobody said you couldn't, all right? I already talked to the management. They shut that elevator down.
Lucas: They find anything?
Roman: We're investigating, but right now, it just looks like mechanical failure.
Kate: Engineered by André.
Roman: If it wasn't, then you can sue the building, and the good news is that money will come in real handy when the IRS comes knocking.
Kate: [Chuckles] I'm just so happy that my life is such a constant source of amusement for you.
Roman: Katie, there was nothing at all funny about almost losing you.
Kate: And why was that?
Roman: Because some people just make the world a much more interesting place.
Sami: What are you still doing here?
E.J.: Samantha, I just got a glimpse of the wicked girl that I love. Why would I want to leave?
Sami: Because I want you to leave.
E.J.: Samantha...life is about raising the stakes. It's about walking to the edge of the cliff, looking down into the gorge, holding hands, and daring each other to jump.
Sami: What are you even talking about?
E.J.: I am talking about life and how you live life, okay? And please don't pretend this is some foreign language that you don't understand, Samantha. You know exactly who we are and exactly what it takes to make both of us happy, no matter how much you try and deny it.
Lucas: My mom agreed to help Stefano get the folio from André and then she let Sami and I go in her place.
Roman: I know that. And I'm not happy with any of you for that stunt.
Lucas: I don't think André was too happy.
Roman: Well, I wouldn't doubt it. He sure as hell wasn't happy about your part in it or Sami's.
Kate: Well, see, and Lucas thought I was being unduly morbid about planning my funeral.
Roman: You are not gonna die.
Kate: Tell that to my elevator shaft.
Roman: Not on my watch.
Kate: What is this, the witness-protection program?
Roman: Are you a witness?
Kate: No. No, I'm a helpless victim.
Roman: You are helpless? That will be the day.
Kate: You know, Roman, if you're just gonna laugh --
Roman: I'm just laughing about you being helpless, not about André being dangerous. As a matter of fact, I've got an idea. Stay at my place.
Kate: You're not serious.
Roman: Somebody's got to keep an eye on you. It might as well be me.
Stefano: Rolf, I would like a moment alone with -- with Tony.
Dr. Rolf: Yeah, I'll be right outside.
Stefano: Do you...do you believe in dreams?
Tony: Of course. All those years that I was on a certain...deserted island, I dreamt of being rescued, and when that moment came --
Stefano: No, no, no. I don't meant the waking kind. I...I dreamed that I was in this bed helpless --
Tony: It's the anesthetic.
Stefano: Helpless and that the Bradys murdered me in cold blood. Get me out of here, Tony. Please.
Tony: I'll see what I can do.
Stefano: Thank you.
Tony: You know, despite all the times that I have denied you in my heart...I'll always be a DiMera.
Stefano: What does that mean, Tony?
Tony: It means that in the end...my loyalty will always... always be to you.
Steve: Oh, man. Now I really am stoked. Come on. You telling me you trust me to pull this thing off after I was willing to wash that liver section with my whites?
Bo: If a Brady offs Stefano, André will know something's up.
Steve: Yeah, well, that's what you get for having such a squeaky-clean reputation, but me on the other hand, that's a different story.
Bo: Which is why André will believe you're the murderer... if you think you can handle this.
Steve: You think I'm gonna pass up the starring role in this deal, man? I am in.
Bo: You sure this won't, you know --
Steve: Awaken my demons?
Bo: Yeah, something like that. What I'm concerned about are the flashbacks and the episodes.
Steve: Beauregard, I'm telling you there's nothing to worry about.
Bo: Okay. That's all I need to know.
Steve: Thanks, man. I'll talk to Kayla and let you know.
Kayla: Talk to me about what?
Bo: I'll call you.
Kayla: W-w-w-wait. What are you up to, Bo?
Bo: I love you, sis. I'll see you later.
Bo: I'm out of here.
Kayla: [Grunts] All right, what are you two up to?
Steve: Is the Pocket Man down for the count?
Kayla: Don't avoid the subject.
Steve: Whoa. [Sighs] Bo and I were just kicking around life.
Kayla: What about life?
Steve: Well, things like knowing this little dude is in here asleep safe under our roof. It makes me feel good that I'm a part of that.
Kayla: You're a big part of that.
Steve: And that my daughter...thinks that what I say matters again.
Kayla: Are you sure you're feeling all right?
Steve: I'm feeling better than all right. I think I'm happy.
Kayla: Well, it must be contagious because I'm happy, too, and so is Pocket.
Steve: Oh, boy. Everybody's happy.
Kayla: But are you gonna tell me what's going on or do I have to drag it out of you?
Steve: Uh, okay. Bo and I were talking about that stunt I pulled at the hospital.
Kayla: You were angry.
Steve: Yeah, I was angry all right. I was really angry, but this is the thing -- my head was clear. I wasn't being controlled, not like those years in the DiMera tool chest. I was in control. I don't want you to be afraid of what happened there.
Kayla: I'm not.
Steve: Good. So, Bo has this idea of how to get to André.
Kayla: I know, you told me.
Steve: Well, I'M...I'm gonna help out a little. I'm gonna get a little involved.
Kayla: Am I gonna like how involved you're gonna be?
Steve: Sweetness... you're gonna hate it.
Stefano: We both have regrets, yeah?
Tony: A few.
Stefano: See...a man needs to belong to something bigger than himself.
Tony: Yes, I've realize that now.
Stefano: To a family, to his destiny.
Tony: And you are my family, biology be damned.
Stefano: Then you are ready to be a true son.
Tony: I am.
Stefano: Tony...you are my eldest... which means that you are...the child closest to my heart. If you're gonna protect me...I will reward you with everything that I have.
Tony: We'll talk about that later.
Stefano: Despite all the suffering...you had by my hand [Chuckles] look who is sitting beside me now. I want you...to carry on the DiMera Legacy.
Tony: [Sighs] It would be an honor...Father.
Sami: Hey. None of your business. Give them back.
E.J.: No. Technically, these belong to both of our families.
Sami: And technically, your grandfather was a dirty sleazebag.
E.J.: Really? I thought you found their doomed love story rather romantic.
Sami: Yeah, less and less.
E.J.: And Colleen, she was a saint, I'm assuming.
Sami: She was under Santo's spell.
E.J.: I see. Is that what it is to fall in love, eh? To be under somebody's spell?
Sami: Well, something started all of this mess, something between them.
E.J.: Something called love.
Sami: Love shouldn't cause this much pain.
E.J.: I think that's a myth. Love...is often the greatest cause of pain.
Sami: He should have just left her alone. Colleen kept asking him, begging him to stay out of her life, and he wouldn't listen. He just was always in her face. The letters, please.
E.J.: Of course. On the understanding that we read them together. Do we have a deal?
Kate: Do I have to do your laundry?
Roman: I know my way around a washing machine.
Lucas: It is a good idea, just until they arrest André.
Roman: All right. Here's a key. I really do hope you take me up on my offer.
Roman: What are friends for?
Kate: Sometimes I'm not sure.
Lucas: I'll drive you to your place and help you get your stuff, okay?
Kate: Thanks, sweetie.
Lucas: That's what sons are for, right? Just got to call Sami and tell her I'll be a while. Thank you.
Roman: Thanks, Lucas. He's a good man, Kate.
Kate: Yes. And you're a good man, Roman Brady.
Roman: See you at home? Good.
Roman: Why do you think, Katie?
Sami: I am reading those letters with Lucas.
E.J.: They're not unlike you and I, you know -- Santo and Colleen.
Sami: Oh, yeah. People confuse me with a nun all the time.
E.J.: They're two people from two different worlds who are drawn to each other.
Sami: I am not drawn to you.
E.J.: Nobody believed in them, but they believed in each other. And nobody, not fate, not the church, nor their family could separate them.
Lucas: Hey. Did you get any rest?
Sami: Um, more or less.
Lucas: Did E.J. pop in again?
Sami: Lucas, of course not.
Lucas: All right, look, things are taking a little longer than I thought. I have to help my mom move her stuff into your dad's place.
Lucas: I'll explain when I see you.
Sami: Well, hurry back. I, um, I miss you.
Lucas: I love you.
Sami: I love you, too.
E.J.: [Clears throat] Lucas on his way back, is he?
E.J.: Well, better get a move on, then.
Sami: What are you doing? Get off!
E.J.: Now, I'm making myself comfortable, darling. Should I start reading these or do you wish to do the honors?
Sami: I am not reading them with you.
E.J.: Yes, you are. I want to get a few pointers from my grandfather.
Sami: Really? Pointers on what?
E.J.: Pointers on how you persuade the woman that you're in love with...that she really loves you.
Kayla: I swear I cannot leave you and Bo alone for a second.
Steve: Come on, baby. Listen, listen. He needs someone André will believe would really kill the old man.
Kayla: And you're the only person in the whole wide world that fits that bill?
Steve: It's not like I'm gonna kill him for real. I wouldn't do that.
Kayla: You know, doctors don't know what trigger sense memories.
Steve: If Tony or Bo or somebody else can do it, they would.
Kayla: But then why you?
Steve: I told you, because I'm the only one André would believe would really kill Stefano. Now, listen, I know that your family has got plenty of cause to want to see that guy in the ground, but is there a killer, a cold-blooded killer, in your family? No. Roman -- forget about it. Bo -- no way.
Kayla: You know what? I could kill him in cold blood because of what he did to you.
Steve: That's the thing, baby. That's it right there. You couldn't do it. You could talk about it. You could think about it, but you could never go through with it. But me? I've got a history of violence.
Kayla: That's not your fault.
Steve: It's not my fault, but there it is. There it is. Nobody knows what crazy Steve will do thanks to the DiMeras. And there's the motive. I've got more reason to kill him than anybody.
Kayla: It's too risky. I'm just so frightened by what might happen to you.
Steve: Oh, baby, baby, listen. Listen to me -- nothing's gonna happen. I'm gonna do this thing sanely, rationally, like a mission. It's the only way, baby. It's the only way I can see to protect the people I love. But I'll tell you something -- if you say no, I won't do it. I need you on board, Kayla... or I won't do it.
Kayla: Is it okay that I'm scared?
Steve: Baby, I'm scared, too. But how about we scare them for a change?
Kayla: I just can't lose you again.
Bo: Tony...what's going on?
Tony: Can you believe Stefano had a dream that the Bradys murdered him in his bed?
Bo: You don't think someone told him our plan?
Tony: No, it's paranoia. He's -- he's not very comfortable here because he has no control. He wants out of here as soon as he can.
Bo: When do you think they'll release him?
Tony: I'm trying to stall him, but I don't think we can count him on being here after tomorrow.
Bo: That doesn't give us much time.
Tony: I have to tell you, Bo, life was a lot more simpler on the island.
Bo: You're not having second thoughts, are you?
Bo: Good. 'Cause Stefano DiMera's gonna have to die...tonight.
Nick: I have a problem, a big problem. These kids are China Lee's.
Chelsea: Jett, you're kind of freaking me out here.
Jett: Things are about to get real ugly.
Stephanie: Because, Max, every time I see you, all I can think about is...
Max: Our kiss?
Sami: You are so arrogant. Get out! I hate you! Get out!
