Abby: And then we ate at the most awesome restaurant. It's owned by some famous chef -- Bobby Flay? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! And it was so amazing. And then, after that, we went up to the village. They actually have D.J.’s? I know. And then guess who's staying at our hotel? Gwen Stefani. I know! I swear, I saw her in the lobby. She's tiny. Yeah, we're having a blast. I wish you were, too. [Knock on door] Oh, got to go. My date's here. Yeah, you too.

Jack: I'm back.

Abby: This is the perfect vacation. It's just what I needed.

Jack: Good.

Abby: Thanks, Dad. I love you.

Jack: I love you, too.

Max: I cannot believe we pulled that off, sister Kay.

Kayla: I never could have done it without you, Father Maximus. But now we have the proof we need that E.J. stole John's kidney to save Stefano's life.

Max: Mm-hmm.

Kayla: What a waste.

Max: Oh, I agree. But now at least we have something to toast to, right? To burying E.J. Wells.

Kayla: Mmm. I'll drink to that.

E.J.: I was absolutely certain this child was mine.

Sami: Well, you were wrong. Lucas is the father. Are you all right?

E.J.: [Sighs] Yeah. Forgive me. I, uh... didn't expect it to come out like this. I'm in a little bit of shock. You know, it's funny. I don't even think I ever told anyone this. I reached a point in my life where the money, fame, everything went with it did not matter to me, trivial in comparison to being a father. You know what? Uh, I even got some brochures for schools -- I mean, the best. It's amazing how much one little piece of paper can change your life.

Philip: So have you seen them? Belle and Shawn, although I doubt they're using their real names.

Kate: Well, I can die a happy woman now that I've shared the back of a pickup truck with a flock of angry chickens. Any luck?

Philip: I'm working on it. So, do they look familiar? Oh, they have a little girl, about a year and a half. Her name's Claire.

Gabby: Oh, she's such a cutie.

Philip: Look, this is extremely important. Have you seen them or not?

Gabby: Nope. Sorry.

Philip: So we'll check that other hotel.

Kate: Come on, we've just got started. We just got here.

Philip: It could be the other island, as well. I don't know.

Kate: Want to do that? It's not too late.

Belle: Look, I know. That's a fishy. There's lots of fishies. Can you make a fish face? Hey.

[Smooches]

Shawn D.: Belle, we got to get out of here now.

Belle: Why, what happened? Did they sheriff come back?

Shawn D.: Worse. It's Philip. He's downstairs interrogating Gabby right now.

Belle: What did she tell him?

Shawn D.: Nothing so far, but he's not leaving here until he gets what he wants.

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives.

Belle: How did they find us? It couldn't have been those letters.

Shawn D.: Just keep packing.

Belle: What did she tell them?

Shawn D.: Never seen us before.

Belle: Maybe they'll buy it. There are thousands of these little islands, and maybe Kate and Philip are just randomly checking them.

Shawn D.: I still think that we ought to bail.

Belle: Well, I'm not so sure.

Shawn D.: He's downstairs. One slip from Gabby, and he's gonna be in our faces. We can't take that chance.

Belle: Great, so it all depends on Gabby, someone we barely know. Our lives are in her hands. Do you realize that?

Shawn D.: I hope she does.

Philip: Hey, maybe you should take another look.

Gabby: You know, a lot of people pass through here. It's impossible to remember every single face.

Kate: A couple with a child, in a place like this, I think you would remember that. Wouldn't you?

Gabby: Exactly. I mean, we don't get too many of those around here. None, as a matter of fact. Satisfied?

Philip: Not even close.

Gabby: Look, mister, you showed me your pictures. I told you I haven't seen them. Jeez, what more do you need?

Philip: What I need is to find my daughter. So I'm gonna stick around and ask some of the other residents here. Maybe they'll have a better memory than you.

Gabby: Are you calling me a liar now?

Philip: Are you?

Gabby: You're a real charming guy, you know that?

Kate: Is there somebody here who could get me a drink possibly? Ugh, fine. I'll get it myself.

[Chuckles] Okay, now -- now we're calling you a liar.

Jack: So are we having a good time so far?

Abby: Oh, the best, Dad. Thanks.

Jack: Oh, you know, I just remembered something. I met the most interesting girl in the elevator just now. She was a singer or something. Stephanie? I just couldn't get past the flaming red lips.

Abby: Gwen Stefani?

Jack: That's it. That's the name.

Abby: Wait, it was just, like, you two in the elevator?

Jack: Yes.

Abby: Dad, why didn't you get an autograph?

Jack: Oh, oh, you mean, uh, like -- like this?

Abby: "You are a rock star."

Jack: Actually, I'd say that she is the rock star, but thank you for the comparison. Huh? We've had our meal. Anything else on the agenda?

Abby: There probably isn't time for the statue of liberty, huh?

Jack: Oh, I don't think so. But I'll tell you what. We'll run around times square, or we can take a late carriage ride through central park.

Abby: Isn't that for, like, couples?

Jack: Uh...yeah. What are you saying, you don't want to be seen with the old dad?

Abby: No, of course not. I just -- I always wanted to do it. I just thought I'd be with a guy or a boyfriend or something.

Jack: I see.

Abby: What?

Jack: Nothing. Nothing at all. I, uh, talked to your Aunt Maggie this week.

Abby: About what?

Jack: About Max Brady.

Max: [Laughs] Hey, check it out.

Kayla: The priest collar? I can't believe you kept that.

Max: Well, I, you know, wanted a souvenir.

Kayla: Why would you want one from this trip?

Max: Are you serious? This is the most fun I've had since Frankie left town.

Kayla: You miss him, don't you?

Max: Salem's just not the same without him, you know? And, I mean, the Brady’s are great. Trust me. They're great. But I just -- most of my life, it's just been me and my brother. Can I tell you something, Kayla?

Kayla: Of course.

Max: When Frankie left for DC, I've just been feeling kind of lost, like I don't fit in. And it's hard to explain. You wouldn't understand it.

Kayla: No, I understand exactly how you feel. I've been there. I mean, even now.

E.J.: Everything I worked for, my plans for the little one -- gone. Just like that.

Sami: Wait a second. Your plans? This is my family that we're talking about here. If the child had been yours --

E.J.: It would have opened up a whole new world for both of us, Samantha.

Sami: I like the world that I'm in, E.J., especially now that you're not gonna be a part of it.

E.J.: Don't dismiss me.

Sami: It's over. This is the end. You didn't succeed in planting the DiMera seed in me. And I understand that you're disappointed about it, but get over it.

E.J.: No, Samantha, I don't think you do understand. Because this isn't just my loss. This is your loss, too.

Maggie: Are you gonna clam up again if I ask you what's on your mind?

Nick: [Exhales sharply] Okay. All right. Okay. So this friend of mine asked me a favor -- nothing major, but now this other friend asked me a favor, a bigger favor. And I can't justify not doing that favor when I did the other favor. And this isn't making any sense, is it?

Maggie: Well, I think I get the gist. It sounds like this friend of yours --

Nick: The first friend or the second friend?

Maggie: The second friend. It sounds like they're asking something of you that you can't give them?

Nick: Oh, I can give it to them. I'm just not sure I should.

Sami: What are you talking about? This is the best news I could ever ask for. The man that I love, Lucas, my fiancé, is the father of my child. I mean, that means I get to move on with my life. Speaking of which, I have a wedding to plan. So, if you'll excuse me.

E.J.: You know, uh... my father always told me that, uh, my brother Tony, his one... weakness were the ladies, his one fatal flaw. I always grew up saying that I would learn from that mistake. And I always thought that I had... until I met you. My feelings for you are very real, Samantha. There was a time when you felt the same way.

Sami: Maybe there was a time when I felt something. But that was ancient history. Most importantly, it was before I found out that you shot my stepfather... and before you raped me.

E.J.: I didn't rape you.

Sami: You can't go around pretending that it was some beautiful night of lovemaking because the bottom line is you forced me to have sex with you. And then you forced me to put my life on hold while I waited for this stupid paternity test, which I am now glad that I had because it proves what I was saying all along. Lucas is the father of my child, which means... that we are done here forever. Nothing... nothing will ever connect us again.

Kayla: When I lost Steve, I had those same feelings you're having. I felt lost and disconnected.

Max: So what you're trying to say is the love of my life is... my brother. That's terrific.

Kayla: Cut it out. You know what I mean.

Max: I know what you mean. But that's kind of one of the reasons why I wanted to come on this trip with you, is to feel a part of something that was bigger than I was, you know? And to see someone.

Kayla: Mmm, not just anyone. Someone special. Could it be Abby Deveraux?

Abby: So wait a minute. You've been talking to Aunt Maggie about my love life?

Jack: [Chuckles] So there is a love life. Great. Just point me in the direction of the minibar. I'll do the rest.

Abby: Nothing's even happened, so chill.

Jack: There won't be any chilling until we finish talking about Max Brady.

Abby: Max is not even technically my boyfriend. We're just hanging out, having fun.

Jack: Define "having fun."

Abby: Dad!

Jack: Listen, he's a lot more experienced than you are. He's, what, 10 years older than you?

Abby: Six years. And so what? Why are you so anti-Max? He comes from a good family. He owns his own --

Jack: I'm not saying he's a bad person. He's just not for you. He's not for my daughter. I want you to understand this. I am serious. Abigail, stay away from him. Stay away from Max Brady.

Max: Nice job, Kayla, nice.

Kayla: What?

Max: How you casually slipped Abby's name into the conversation. That was really smooth.

Kayla: It made you laugh, didn't it? I like her. I think she's a doll. I think she's smart. She's kind. I think she'd be really good for you.

Max: Yeah, Abby's great. She's a terrific girl.

Kayla: And where does Mimi fit into all this?

Max: Well, she's in Arizona, and I'm here. I mean, I talk to her every once in a while, but I think we both kind of realize that we've moved on.

Kayla: So the coast is clear.

Max: I guess, but I...

Kayla: But what?

Max: This is scary, Kayla, for me, anyway. I've known a few girls. I've been around the block a few times but –- nothing like this. Nothing like Abby. I mean, I think about her all the time and how sweet she is, how smart. She can even take apart a carburetor.

Kayla: Mmm. Sounds like true love.

Max: I don't know what it is right now. I really don't. But I know that when she's not around, I really miss her. And when she is around, it feels like home.

E.J.: You think that because the child you're carrying isn't mine we don't have some connection?

Sami: We never had a connection.

E.J.: Oh, I beg to differ.

Sami: All right. Maybe we had some sort of momentary chemistry. But the second I found out who you really are and what you're capable of doing to me and my family, all I wanted to do was get you out of my life.

E.J.: What about that beam? Let's think about that, shall we? What if I had been out of your life, Samantha? What if I hadn't picked you up on that mountain road? You wouldn't be planning this big wedding because Lucas would be dead.

Sami: Well, he's not dead, and you're not this baby's father. And if you really ever cared about me -- which is sort of hard to imagine at this point -- but if it's true, then I think you should do the right thing.

E.J.: And what would that be?

Sami: That bargain we made on that mountain road never happened.

E.J.: That's it?

Sami: It is all I want from you.

E.J.: You have my word.

Sami: Thank you.

E.J.: It's a pity when you think about what could have been -- you and me. I was hoping that if you found out this baby was mine, you'd be able to overlook your doubts. Remember the night man you tangoed with last summer on the pier? It's one of my favorite memories. Funny thing being, Samantha... you're probably the only woman in the world who could have made me into the man that you thought I was.

Belle: Anything?

Shawn D.: Nothing. Just keep packing. I don't want any sign that we were ever here.

Belle: But what if Philip finds us again?

Shawn D.: Why not? He's found us everywhere else. If worse comes to worse, I'm just gonna have to confront him.

Belle: No, that's crazy. You cannot do that.

Shawn D.: Belle, hear me out. If I can distract him long enough, you and Claire, you can make a clean getaway, just like we did in Toronto.

Belle: Okay. Let's say we do it. Where do we go?

Shawn D.: You go to the marina. You get on Gabby's boat, and you wait for me.

Belle: And what happens if the police catch up to you?

Shawn D.: Then you go to Australia without me. I don't care if I end up in the ninth ring of hell as long as you and Claire are safe from that maniac.

Gabby: I'm not sure, but I think this belongs to our neighbor's kids. Sometimes they come over here.

Philip: I thought you said there were no kids around here.

Gabby: No kids. That's what I thought you meant.

Philip: Tell me where they are, damn it.

Gabby: I told you. I don't know.

Philip: You're lying.

Gabby: No.

Philip: Look me in the eye. Look at me.

Gabby: Please, stop it!

Philip: I swear, if you don't start talking --

Gabby: Okay, fine! Fine, they're here. You're right.

Nick: What would you do? Say that it was someone really, really close to you.

Maggie: Any friend who truly cares about you would never ask you to compromise your principles. Just remember that, okay?

Kayla: It sounds like it's a whole new thing with Abby, huh?

Max: It seems like it to me. And I think about how I managed to screw up all the previous relationships I've had in the past.

Kayla: Max.

Max: No, come on. Don't you remember what happened with me and Stephanie?

Kayla: It wasn't meant to be. You knew that, and I think, in her heart, she knew it, too.

Max: Maybe.

Kayla: Would you look at me? Look at me. You are not gonna screw this up, so stop thinking you are.

Max: She's different than other girls. She's...innocent. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's just -- she collects teddy bears, and she dots her exclamation points with hearts.

Kayla: Well, you know what? I've been known to do that myself from time to time. Really, come on, if you really care about her, and you think the feelings are mutual, then --

Max: It is, definitely. We just haven't taken it to the next level. You know what I mean? It's like starting at ground zero with her.

Kayla: Max, that's a good thing. It's a really special time when you get to know each other. You take your time, enjoy it.

Max: That's what I've been doing. I don't want to be the first one to break her heart.

Kayla: Then don't be.

Max: Oh, easy for you to say.

Kayla: Easy for you to do. This is what's gonna happen. When this plane lands in JFK, you're gonna catch a cab, you're gonna go to her hotel, and you're gonna tell her everything that you just told me. And you know what? You're gonna be surprised how far a little honesty can take you.

Abby: I'm not walking into this blindfolded, Dad. I know about Max's past, and that's all it is -- his past.

Jack: You ever hear the old saying, "those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it"?

Abby: Here we go.

Jack: Listen to me. You've got a good head on your shoulders. You've got so much going for you. The sky's the limit, but not if you get yourself tied down.

Abby: Who said anything about being tied down? I just really like Max. Mom would so be on my side about this.

Jack: Actually, we discussed it, and we're in agreement on this.

Abby: No!

Jack: Listen to me. All we want is for you to enjoy your time at Salem University. Join a sorority. Go to a pep rally. Run for student government. I don't care. Just get out there and enjoy your life. Enjoy your freedom because before you know it, it will be gone. And the last thing we want is for you to regret missing out on things because of some guy. Not just Max -- any guy.

Abby: Jeez, Dad, what did you do, practice that speech on the plane?

Jack: Didn't hear a word I said.

Abby: Yeah, I did. If it'll make you and mom happy, then fine. I promise.

Jack: Promise. Hmm. You won't see Max Brady?

Abby: Max will not interfere with my college education. Happy now?

Jack: Ecstatic. [Sighs] I do love you, Abigail.

Abby: I know.

Jack: Am I still a rock star?

Abby: If we can do something fun now.

Jack: Absolutely. We could still get down to times square. Should be lighting up about now.

Abby: Can we take the subway?

Jack: Absolutely. I'm gonna go change into something more comfortable, e-mail a few things back to the office. You get a subway map and meet me down in the lobby.

Abby: Cool.

Jack: And, for the record, Abigail, I know you have a good head on your shoulders, and I do believe in you.

Abby: [Sighs]

Philip: Okay. Now, where are they? What room?

Gabby: No, see, they were here, but they left.

Philip: Do I look like an idiot to you?

Gabby: No, more like a world-class jerk. You know, Belle and Shawn were right about you.

Philip: How much are they paying you?

Kate: Philip, stop. Stop!

Philip: Let's try this one last time. Belle and Shawn. Where are they?

Belle: We are not splitting up, not after we've come this far together.

Shawn D.: If it comes to that --

Belle: No, you said that as long as Claire was with her family and that she was safe -- and you're a part of that family. She needs you. I need you.

Shawn D.: Okay. But I need to know what's going on downstairs. So are you guys gonna be okay?

Belle: Yes. Just promise me you won't do anything --

Shawn D.: I know, that's stupid.

Belle: Yeah.

Shawn D.: I promise.

Max: So I'm just supposed to show up at Abby's hotel with a bouquet of roses? I'm not sure what she'd think.

Kayla: She'd think it was sweet.

Max: Ah. Well, I'm sure that's how the stories in your romance novel end up, but that's not how my life works.

Kayla: Would you give yourself a little credit? Where's that Max Brady confidence?

Max: I'll send out a search party for him when I get a chance.

Flight Attendant: Ladies and gentlemen, we are beginning our final descent into New York's JFK airport. It looks like we should be on the ground in about 15 minutes.

Kayla: Okay, well, there you go. You have 15 minutes to make a decision. You gonna stay on board the plane with me, or are you gonna go out and find that girl who could turn out to be the love of your life?

Sami: Ugh, stop worrying about it! E.J. bought your story. It's fine. It's over. [Doorbell rings]

Celeste: So, how did it go?

Sami: Just like I said it would. E.J. totally bought my story. He bought the false lab report. You should have heard him talking about his feelings. At one point, he practically seemed desperate.

Celeste: Desperate. E.J. I thought you knew what you were doing, Samantha, but, obviously, darling, you don't have a clue.

[Cellphone ringing]

E.J.: E.J. Wells.

Kayla: Hello. How are things back in Salem?

E.J.: Who is this?

Kayla: Oh, I'm sorry. I thought for sure you would recognize my voice. It's Kayla Johnson. You remember, Steve's wife.

E.J.: What can I do for you, Kayla?

Kayla: Nothing, really. I'm just sitting here on the plane waiting for it to take off, and did I mention that I had just been on a little trip to Europe?

E.J.: Hope you're having a nice, little adventure. I don't really have the time or the inclination to talk to you.

Kayla: You're gonna have less time than you think. I know all about John's kidney. I know where it went, I know who was the recipient, and now, thanks to my little Italian getaway, I have the proof I need to lock you up forever. Enjoy your evening, Elvis.

E.J.: No, wait. Kayla. Kayla! Kayla.

Gabby: Let go! You're hurting me!

Philip: I'll let go when you tell me where they are.

Kate: Philip, that's enough.

Philip: I'm just reminding island girl who's in control here.

Kate: Get your hands off her now. Now!

Philip: I'm gonna tear this place apart if you don't start talking.

Gabby: Why are you chasing them?

Philip: That's none of your business.

Gabby: You called Claire your daughter, but Shawn said --

Philip: Shawn is a liar. And I'm tired of you stalling. Now start talking.

Gabby: I told you they left. They checked out yesterday.

Philip: And I don't believe you.

Gabby: Maybe you'll believe this. Belle left it here to take care of her bill, tough guy.

[Cellphone ringing]

Abby: Hello?

Max: Hey, Ab, so how's New York?

Abby: Max?

Max: I was just checking in. I, uh, wanted to see if you remembered to send me a postcard. So, you having fun?

Abby: I love it here. In fact, I'm thinking about transferring to NYU next semester.

Max: Wait, what?

Abby: Kidding. Just kidding.

Max: Oh, you better be, you punk. Well, you know, I'm glad you're having a good time.

Abby: Yeah, we've done about every touristy thing you can think of.

Max: Did you make it to the Yankees home opener?

Abby: Everything but that.

Max: Ah, too bad. It was such a perfect day in New York. I mean, for baseball, even. It's nice that spring came early to the city, huh?

Abby: How would you know that?

Max: I took a last-minute trip with Kayla, and we had a layover in JFK.

Abby: You were here in New York?

Max: Yeah, I mean, I thought about stopping by your hotel, but...

Abby: But you didn't.

Max: You're not still upset, are you?

Abby: No, I'm not upset, just disappointed, I guess. [Knock on door] Oh, hang on. I think my dad's at the door.

Max: So you're not still disappointed, are you?

Abby: Max!

Celeste: E.J. played you like a violin, Samantha.

Sami: You weren't here. You didn't see him.

Celeste: I didn't have to. E.J. desperate. That in itself is enough to let me know, darling, that you've been had.

Sami: Why would he do that? I mean, why would he talk about his feelings? Why would he pretend like he cared?

Celeste: Because he enjoys keeping you off balance, playing with your emotions. It amuses him, Samantha. Yes, you know, to flatter you with sweet lies and stroke your formidable ego. And, apparently, darling, you bought the entire performance.

Sami: It doesn't matter. The DNA report shows that Lucas is the father, and that is the end of this.

Celeste: Well, now, if you believe that, you're more foolish than I thought. No, Samantha darling, it is not the end. It's only the beginning. And let me tell you something. Either you destroy him, or you let him destroy you and raise your child as a DiMera.

Nick: [Sighs] Come on, Nick, you can do this. You can do this. You stole a DNA report for Sami. The least you can do is throw out a hairbrush for the girl of your dreams, right? Oh, God. What has your life come to? What's next, you're gonna commit grand theft auto, live a life of crime, screw the whole scientist thing? Oh, my God. You've had too much caffeine. That's what's going on. You have had too much caffeine. Aunt Maggie was right. Quit stalling. Okay. I can do this.

Belle: Okay. Let's not forget teddy bear 'cause daddy's gonna be right back, and he's gonna know what to do. Yeah, that's right. He's gonna have a plan, and we're gonna have some money, and... I never got my ring back.

Kate: [Sighs] Philip.

Philip: This is it. This is Belle's wedding ring.

Kate: Baby, I'm so sorry.

Gabby: So there's your proof, Tarzan. Shawn and Belle are long gone. Now do you believe me?

Abby: I still can't believe you're here.

Max: Yeah, me neither. Okay, okay. All right.

Abby: So?

Max: So, I got something to tell you.

Abby: And I have something to tell you.

Max: God, you look amazing right now.

Abby: No, I don't. My dad and I have been on the go since, like... my dad. Oh, no!

Max: What? What's wrong?

Abby: You have to go.

Max: What? I just got here.

Abby: No, I'll explain later, but you have to go.

Max: What?

Abby: He's gonna think that I planned all this -- you, me, the hotel room. Trust me, you have to go.

Max: Okay, all right. [Knock on door]

Jack: Hey, Abigail, I thought we were gonna meet downstairs. What's up? Let me in.

Flight Attendant: Ladies and gentlemen, we've been cleared for takeoff, so please sit back, relax, and enjoy the short flight to Salem.

Kayla: I'm coming home, Steve. Don't worry. E.J. Wells is never gonna hurt our family again.

Celeste: Samantha, if you're not afraid for yourself, be afraid for the child that you're carrying. I'm warning you.

Sami: Oh, would you stop it with your predictions? Do you know how much stress I am under right now?

Celeste: Well, I don't need a crystal ball to figure out where this is going. E.J. will be back for that child.

Sami: E.J.'s not getting my baby.

Celeste: If you get to him first.

Sami: Would you give it a rest already?

Celeste: Samantha, listen to me now! It wouldn't be hard. E.J. is incapable of love, but, darling, I believe he does lust after you.

Sami: What are you talking about?

Celeste: Seduce him, Samantha. Use the one thing he wants to get rid of him once and for all.

Sami: Are you serious right now?

Celeste: Well, this wouldn't exactly be a stretch for you, and it may be our only hope.

Sami: I'm gonna ask you to leave.

Celeste: Samantha, look. Please, darling, just consider it. That's all I'm asking.

Sami: You know what? Consider this. The only thing I'm working on right now is my wedding and the rest of my life. And as far as I am concerned, E.J. is no longer part of it. And, frankly, I would rather if you weren't a part of it, either. Good night, Celeste. [Sighs]

Nick: You're not authorized to be here. I'm calling security. What are you doing to the phone?

E.J.: That rather depends on you. Mr, Fallon, see, I'm wondering if you're gonna be a good boy and forget I was here or whether you're going to need to learn a lesson. Good choice. Here you go. Thanks. [Clears throat] [Southern accent] Yes, I would like to leave a message for, uh, Lucas Roberts, please. This is Dr. Young calling from the University Hospital. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask Mr. Roberts to come in. We had a problem with Samantha Brady's amniocentesis. That's right. Thank you.

Philip: Which is why I'm not leaving here until I know for a fact you're telling the truth.

Lucas: Why don't you just get over it?

E.J.: Get over what?

Lucas: Your sick obsession with Sami. That's what.

Sami: There is no way that this baby is E.J.'s.

Nick: No way?

Sami: It is totally and completely impossible.

Steve: You stay away from those people.

Kayla: Get off! Stop it!
