Jed: Nice place, huh?
Maggie: Hmm, well, I'm always hoping for chic and elegant, but cool will do in a pinch. Here you go, on the house.
Abby: Wow, Aunt Maggie. Thank you.
Jed: Thanks very much, ma'am.
Maggie: Um, it's Maggie. Enjoy your meal. He's hot.
Abby: My aunt is. . .
Jed: Terrific. Beautiful must run in your family.
Abby: Yeah, you're gonna have to work on your material, Jed.
Jed: I'll try if you'll help me. I'm a bit out of practice.
Abby: Oh, I'm sure you'll do just fine on your own.
Jed: I'm not a player, Abby, if that's what you're thinking. You're beautiful, and that's a fact. It's not a line. What? Did I say something wrong?
Abby: No. It's just. . . I don't hear things like that very often.
Jed: Then guys in this town are crazy.
Max: Hey, I got here as soon as I could. You sounded so upset on the phone. What's going on?
Mimi: I'm waiting for my mom to get home.
Max: She got out of jail?
Mimi: She posted bail.
Max: Oh, my God. I hope she doesn't bolt.
Mimi: With Bonnie Lockhart, you never know. I want to help her, Max. I know she didn't kill my dad in cold blood. It had to be self-defense.
Max: I know, I know.
Mimi: Nick, hi.
Nick: Hi, Mimi. Max, it's good that you're here, too. Um. . . I just came from the lab. We did a DNA test on the gold ring that you guys brought in.
Max: Yeah, what'd you find?
Nick: We found that there were traces of blood on it.
Mimi: Well, was it enough?
Nick: The blood wasn't Bonnie's.
Max: Nick, whose blood is on that ring?
E.J.: Who is it?
Lucas: It's Lucas. Open up.
E.J.: Go on. Run out the fire escape.
Sami: Hi. Hi, honey.
Lucas: What are you doing here?
Sami: I had to talk to E.J. about some stuff.
Lucas: What sort of stuff?
Sami: You know.
Lucas: No, I don't know. Tell me, please.
Sami: All right, well, let's talk about it at the apartment.
Lucas: No, wait a minute. Hold on a second. Did you just call me?
E.J.: Yes, I did. We had an appointment, remember?
Lucas: Yeah, well, why'd you hang up?
E.J.: I didn't. Samantha did.
Lucas: What's going on here?
Sami: Let's talk about it at the apartment, please, Lucas?
Lucas: No, wait a minute. Somebody isn't telling me the truth and I want to know why.
Kayla: Steve, you startled me. I'm glad you came home.
Steve: I can't stay. How's John doing?
Kayla: Well, he's back at University Hospital. . . alive and safe for now.
Steve: Did you explain what happened? How I forced you to take out his kidney?
Kayla: Yeah, I told the hospital that I performed the operation under duress. But it won't matter. I'll more than likely lose my medical license.
Steve: You saved the man's life. They shouldn't punish you.
Kayla: No, I broke the law. I violated every medical ethic there is. But that's not what matters right now. Listen. . . the police are looking for you. You have to turn yourself in.
Steve: I can't do that.
Steve: I'm getting out of town, Kayla. That's why I'm here. I need you to get me enough money so I can leave Salem for good.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives.
Kayla: Steve, please.
Steve: No, no, no, Kayla. I can't stay. The DiMera’s will make me do things, worse things than what I did to John. I can't fight them.
Kayla: Well, then, we'll fight them together.
Steve: No, just give me some money to get away.
Kayla: I won't lose you to this. I won't.
Steve: We don't have a choice.
Kayla: Of course we have a choice. Listen to me, you were tortured. You were brainwashed. You are sick, and you need help.
Steve: I knew what I was doing I knew what I had to do. I couldn't stop it.
Kayla: Then you called me to operate on John instead of that hack. You let me call that ambulance and get John to the hospital. That is fighting them.
Steve: I can't ! Kayla, please just give me money and let me go.
Kayla: No. I won’t.
Steve: I'm begging you.
Kayla: I want you to understand something. You have a family here and friends who care about you, who can help you.
Steve: I have to go now. You know you can't stop me, Kayla.
Kayla: Don't be so sure about that.
Sami: Lucas, are you saying that you don't trust me?
Lucas: No, not you, honey. It's him.
Lucas: Yeah, you.
Lucas: Look, when I agreed to work for Mythic Communications, I had just one stipulation. That you'd move and yet you are still living here.
E.J.: Lucas, it takes time to find a place. I'm a little particular about where I live.
Lucas: You also gave your word you would leave weeks ago, right? That kind of gave us the impression What happened?
E.J.: I absolutely was to go.
Lucas: Some work. Like upsetting Sami, popping in every chance you get? Irritating the hell out of me? That kind of work?
E.J.: What do you want me to say, Lucas? I’m a neighborly kind of guy.
Lucas: Why don't you keep your promise? You're gonna stay right here.
E.J.: And why do you say that?
Lucas: Because he wants to be closer to you.
Jed: So, this guy you're seeing. . .
Abby: I didn't actually say that I was seeing someone.
Jed: Oh, right, right. You're kind of seeing somebody. Is that it?
Abby: Okay, I lied. I'm not seeing anyone at all, but I do like this guy.
Jed: Does he like you back?
Abby: He says he does, but he's kind of involved with this other girl who's in a mess right now. And he wants to be there for her because he's a good guy, but the more he's there for her, the needier she gets. And it's like I said, a big mess.
Abby: You have no idea.
Jed: For you, I mean.
Abby: Why me?
Jed: When you tell somebody that you like them and haven't even broke up with your girlfriend, it normally means that you want to have it both ways. And when it comes down to choosing one or the other, the girlfriend normally wins.
Mimi: How could my blood be on that ring? It's not possible.
Nick: Mimi, the DNA results were run through the hospital computer twice. There's no mistake. The DNA's a match.
Mimi: It's wrong. It has to be.
Nick: I mean, I'll run it through again if you guys want.
Max: No, that's cool. Thanks.
Nick: All right, well, let me know if you need anything else, all right?
Max: Yeah, later. You okay?
Mimi: How can my blood get on that ring? It makes no sense. What is it with my family? Why can't we ever catch a break?
Bonnie: Hey, kids.
Mimi: Who gave you the bail money?
Bonnie: What, Victor gave me the money?
Mimi: Why would Victor do a favor like that for you?
Bonnie: I told him I was desperate, and he took pity on me.
Mimi: I don't believe you.
Bonnie: Oh, honey, why would I lie about that?
Mimi: Because you lie all the time.
Bonnie: What is wrong with you? Why are you so upset?
Mimi: Gee, Mom, I don't know. I find a skeleton wearing a Civil War uniform who turns out to be my dad. Out he was murdered by you. But the only piece of evidence is a ring with my blood on it.
Bonnie: The ring?
Max: Nick had it analyzed. It is Mimi's.
Mimi: Explain that one, Mom.
Bonnie: I told you to leave it alone. I told you no good would come of it.
Mimi: My mistake. I would have believed that, too, until I just saw your face right now, that lying face I know so very well.
Bonnie: Mimi, stop.
Mimi: Please, Mom! Please! For once in your lousy life, tell me the truth.
Bonnie: Okay I will tell you so you'll know, but in fact. , you're gonna wish you.
Abby: So, where did you learn all this wisdom about relationships?
Jed: Hey, I didn't mean --
Abby: You don't know anything about this.
Jed: You're right. You're absolutely right. I have a big mouth and it gets me into trouble sometimes. I'm sorry.
Abby: Forget it.
Jed: No, really, I am. It's your life, and if you want to spend it chasing after some guy who's hooking up with somebody else, who am I to tell you, you shouldn't?
Jed: You're on to me, aren't you
Jed: Seriously, Abby, if you really like this guy, give it your best shot.
Abby: Well, it's not like this is forever. It's -- it's too soon for that. But. . . we just. . . click. It's really hard to explain.
Jed: No, I get it. It's like. . . when you meet someone and they fill that hole that you never knew was there before.
Abby: Wow. You are pretty wise. . . for a jock.
Jed: You gonna ruin my reputation?
Abby: I think your secret's safe with me.
Jed: So, why'd you want to go out with me?
Jed: Well, first you dusted me off, then you said yes. So what changed your mind?
Abby: Well, I like you.
Jed: As a friend.
Abby: Of course. Don't you have any girls that are friends?
Jed: Sure, I do. But when I like someone and I want it to be more than that, I go for it, Abby.
Kayla: You cannot run away.
Steve: Move out of the way, Kayla.
Kayla: Or what? Or what, you're gonna hurt me?
Steve: I already did.
Kayla: So what's your answer? Are you just gonna go hide in a cave someplace?
Steve: Somewhere they can't track me down.
Kayla: Really? And who's to say that E.J. and the rest of them don't have you on some little string where they pull you back from someplace in the world?
Steve: Maybe they do. That doesn't mean I have to make it easy for them.
Kayla: Don't you get it? This thing that they created, this beast that they created of you, it goes with you wherever you go. And you could hurt some innocent people and there's nobody there to stop you or to help you. Please, I am begging you. For the love that we have for each other, for everything that we have ever meant to each other, for our future, please don't run away. Please, come on. Come on, come on. Come on.
Steve: I'm sorry, baby.
E.J.: Lucas, these accusations of yours are becoming tiresome. Now, I asked you to meet with me today for a little bit of truth telling.
Lucas: As if anything that comes out of your mouth is the truth.
E.J.: You know what? I think you're gonna be surprised.
Sami: You know what, Lucas? Let's just go.
E.J.: Oh, really, Samantha? You're in such a hurry? I think that if anybody wants to hear what I have to say. . . it should be you. It's gonna be interesting.
Sami: Neither of us are interested in anything you have to say.
Lucas: Yeah, really. You heard the lady.
E.J.: Ah, yes. The lady.
Lucas: "Ah, yes, the lady. " What's that supposed to mean? What are you implying with that?
E.J.: I'll be direct with you, Lucas, since that does seem to be your preference. You seem to have this picture of me in your mind as some kind of cross between a Svengali and a Jack the Ripper, based on nothing more than police station gossip and your own insecurity. I gave you a job when nobody in this town would touch you with a 10-foot pole. And in return, what do I get, hmm? I get your blatant insubordination, your bad attitude, and your constant insinuation that I'm in some way lying.
Lucas: Not insinuating at all. I'm being direct.
E.J.: Then allow me to be direct. You want the truth, Sunshine? I got it coming to you in spades.
Sami: Why are you doing this?
E.J.: I'm not doing this, Samantha. Lucas is doing this. He wants to know the truth. I'm just obliging.
Lucas: Yeah, I do want to know the truth.
E.J.: Okay, I'll give it to you. I never had any intention of moving out of this flat. Why? Because of you, Samantha. I want to be near you. It's kind of funny, really, when you think about it, especially since you've gone out of your way to help the police set me up. I guess that's just the kind of idiot that I am. I can't seem to get enough of you. And because I have the maturity of a 15-year-old, I don't want anybody else getting my girl, so. . . there you have it, Lucas. I mean, I could recite some poetry, a note or two, but why gild the lily, eh?
Lucas: That's fine. I think you've made your point.
E.J.: You want me to write it down for you?
Lucas: I just want you to keep your end of the deal, that's all.
E.J.: And what if I don't? I mean, hypothetically, what exactly are the consequences if I don't move out?
Lucas: Then I'll quit. Take my family into another town.
Jed: And I like the feeling of being hit over the head by a 2x4 when you see somebody that really rocks you. There will be a face. There will be a smile. And fireworks -- they'll shoot out of me and I'll turn into this puddle of lovesick protoplasm and I'll surrender.
Abby: You're a real Romantic, aren't you?
Jed: Got me again.
Bonnie: Okay, Meems. . . here's what happened. Your father came home. . . reeking of booze and cheap perfume.
Bonnie: You worthless bastard.
Bonnie: He had lipstick all over his shirt.
Bonnie: Lipstick all over your shirt.
Bonnie: I don't know. I just -- I just -- I just went off on him.
David: You're lucky I came home at all.
Bonnie: Me go to hell? You first, buddy!
Bonnie: He was unemployed and spending every dime I made on some floozy. Your dad was never violent with me before. But I. . . I must have pushed him way past his breaking point. He got angry. And we argued.
David: You want a piece of me?
Bonnie: He took a swing at me, and he knocked me down. And there I was, on the floor, defenseless. He came after me again. Then out of nowhere, you -- you -- you came into the room and you shouted at your father. He wouldn't stop. He wouldn't stop, so you grabbed him and that's when he hit you with the back of his hand, the hand with the gold ring. And that's how your blood got on the ring.
Mimi: I don't remember any of this. It's a lie. It's a lie. She's lying, Max. She's always lying to me. She's always lying to me.
Max: Bonnie, if you are, I swear -- I swear to God.
Bonnie: It's the truth.
Bonnie: Don't you touch her!
Bonnie: After David hit you, he came at me again, a rage in his eyes I've never seen. He tried to strangle me, and that's when you picked up Conner's bat. You let out this scream. . .
Bonnie: . . . And brought that bat down on his head.
Mimi: Oh God!
Bonnie: You hit him. He fell. There was blood. . . and he was dead.
Mimi: No! No, I didn't! I couldn't have killed my own father!
Kayla: Oh, I was, um, I was calling the hospital to tell them I wasn't coming in today.
Steve: You shouldn't have done that.
Kayla: Well, you promised me you'd give me a few more minutes.
Steve: I know, but what for, Kayla? You know what I have to do. You're just putting it off. What are you doing with a person like me, huh? I've caused you nothing but trouble ever since I came back.
Kayla: That's not true.
Steve: It is true. Okay, we had a few good times. And then I tried to strangle you in your sleep.
Kayla: Would you stop it? Just stop it.
Steve: No, what are you doing, Kayla? Any normal person would have put me out with the trash. But not you. You keep giving me second chances. Why is that?
Kayla: Because I love you.
Steve: You should have written me off years ago, gotten on with your life. You didn't do that. And you know what? Ever since I've been back, you pretend like nothing happened. But something did happen to me, Kayla. Something ugly and something that I can't fix, you can't fix, no one can.
Kayla: I am not giving up on you.
Steve: You have to give up on me! I can't control what's in here, baby. I'm a danger to you and your family. Don't you get it? I don't want to hurt you again.
Kayla: I don't care! You know what? I am never letting you go. Never. So if you want to leave, if you want to walk out that door, you will have to kill me first.
We will return for the second half of "Days of our Lives" in just a moment.
E.J.: Okay, let's -- let's just relax a little bit, shall we?
Lucas: I am relaxed. Perfectly relaxed. You asked what I'd do if you didn't move out, and I said I'd move, take my family to a different town.
E.J.: And you would?
Lucas: Yes, sir. I would in a heartbeat.
E.J.: Well, then, Lucas, you have a deal.
Sami: You're moving out.
E.J.: Though some people may question the sanity of keeping an employee as disobedient as you, Lucas. . . yes, I'm moving out as soon --
Lucas: Actually, now would be great for me.
E.J.: If you'd let me finish. I'll move out as soon as possible. I'll call my real-estate dealer. I'll let him know he has a gun to his head, so to speak. So, anybody got any boxes?
Lucas: Actually, I do. I can even help you pack.
Sami: Lucas --
E.J.: Wait. Where do you think you're going, blondie?
Sami: Get off.
E.J.: Now, I'm keeping my deal with your boy. So you better keep your deal with me. You find out from your father exactly what the police have on me or I let Lucas know that, that may not be his baby you're carrying.
Jed: A Romantic, huh?
Abby: Afraid so.
Jed: You mean for a jock.
Abby: No. I mean for a guy who actually isn't afraid to say how he feels.
Maggie: So, how's the food, kids?
Jed: It's great. Thanks, uh. . .
Maggie: It's still Maggie.
Jed: Um, excuse me.
Abby: This could be bad.
Jed: Why is that?
Abby: You see that girl over there? She used to work here, and she's bad news. Total trash. She used to be a prostitute.
Abby: Trust me, if Willow Stark comes your way, you better cross the street.
Jed: Maybe I should reintroduce myself. I'm Jed Stark. Willow's my sister.
Mimi: How could I have killed my dad? I-I loved him.
Bonnie: I know, baby.
Mimi: No, you don't because it's not true. I could-- I didn't.
Bonnie: Baby, shh, listen. Please, please, please just listen to me. You were in a total state of shock. Right before it happened, I-I gave you a tranquilizer and I put you to bed. I figured we'd work it through. I mean, maybe even go to the police and tell them. But, honey, the next morning when you woke up, you didn't remember a thing. It was like it never happened.
Mimi: Never happened? My father was dead.
Bonnie: I know, I know, but I already called Patrick and he came over. We. . . we got rid of the body. Took it to the abandoned church. Your father's body would still be there forever if you hadn't been locked in that basement with Max.
Mimi: For all those years, I thought he was on the road, working out west, hating him for leaving us, when I-I did it. I killed him.
Bonnie: I've done everything I could to protect you, and now I'm willing to go to jail if I have to. All you have to do -- listen to me -- all you have to do is keep your mouth shut and let me do this.
Mimi: How can I? How can I do --
Bonnie: Shh! Because you have to! And just to make sure. . . I think you should leave Salem. . . for good.
Steve: I'm warning you, Kayla.
Kayla: You can warn me. You can threaten me. You can kill me if you have to. But I am not stepping aside.
Steve: Kayla. Baby.
Kayla: Listen to me. Listen to me -- I'm gonna call my brothers. I'm gonna call them and they're gonna help us, okay? Okay?
Steve: Call anyone you want.
Kayla: Thank you. This is good. Thank you.
Steve: I'm out of here.
Steve: You weren't calling the hospital! You were setting me up! You were setting me up!
Abby: Willow is your sister?
Jed: Why'd you call her a prostitute? She's been paying my tuition and said she had a really great job.
Maggie: You actually expect to get your old job back?
Willow: Please, I'm broke and pregnant with Shawn's baby.
Willow: It's true.
Maggie: If it actually is Shawn's baby, I'm sure Bo and Hope will help you out.
Willow: The Brady’s aren't interested.
Maggie: That doesn't sound like them.
Willow: Well, it's a fact. They're not going to help me, so do I have my job back or what?
Maggie: Sorry, I can't help you.
Jed: Hey, Willie.
Jed: What's going on?
Willow: I was here on a business meeting, but I'll call you later. I have to go.
Jed: You're lying, sis. And I have a feeling you've been lying to me for quite a while.
Nick: Hey. You look like you're watching a train wreck.
Abby: I am. I was here on a date, and it just went off the tracks.
Mimi: This is a nightmare. This is a nightmare. Can it be true? Could I have killed my father? God.
Bonnie: I swear to you, Mimi. I swear to you, I'm not lying. You were only trying to protect me.
Mimi: Well, then, we have to tell the truth. We have to go to the police and make them understand that we're innocent.
Bonnie: It's too late for that. What I did was a crime. I covered up a killing, and I hid the body. Now I'm willing to pay for what I've done, but I will not let you be punished. I know I'm a lousy mom. Please let me do this. Please let me make up for a lifetime of bad choices and bad mistakes. Please, you just -- you have to go.
Mimi: No, I won't desert you, Mom.
Bonnie: No, honey, honey, honey. Max, please, talk to her. Tell her it's the right thing to do. Mimi, Mimi, listen to me, you can go to Arizona and be with Conner. He needs -- he needs his big sister or he's gonna end up in jail like me and Patrick. Come on, can't you see it's for the best?
Mimi: No, it's not right. It's not right.
Bonnie: You saved my life that night. Now it's my turn to save yours. My darling, I love you so much. I don't want you to spend another second in this house. It's cursed. Honey, honey, I want more for you. I want more for Conner. I want you to have a future. But you have to go. You have to go now. . . tonight.
Max: I think your mom is right. You have to leave.
Steve: Answer me. You set me up, didn't you?
Kayla: I didn't have a choice. It was the only way I knew to keep you safe.
Steve: You know, it's too late for that.
Steve: Get down! Get down!
Kayla: No, no, please. Please.
Lucas: Here you go -- a couple of boxes, some tape for you. You should be able to handle that yourself. Come on, sweetheart. Let's go celebrate the fact that E.J. is finally moving. Come on. Oh. See you at the office, boss.
Sami: Hey, Lucas?
Sami: You were amazing in there.
Lucas: Yeah, I guess so. Thanks.
Sami: Oh, yeah.
Willow: Jed, can we talk about this later?
Jed: You said you had this great job where you could pay my tuition and that was a lie. You were a waitress and you got really good tips.
Willow: I know, I know, but I paid your tuition?
Jed: Willow, just try to just tell me the truth now.
Willow: I can't.
Abby: Jed, leave her alone.
Abby: She's upset and embarrassed.
Abby: It's official -- I am a failure at dating.
Nick: I think I have an idea.
Max: No, Mimi. What's right is what your mom wanted for you and your brother -- a future I'll do whatever you want. I'll support you if you stay or if you go, but maybe this is the right thing for you. For you, Mimi.
Mimi: What do you think will happen to you?
Bonnie: You know me. I'll turn on the sprinklers and the judge will go easy on me. The Lockharts will rise again. You can bet on that.
Mimi: So, I guess this is it for us, too.
Max: Mimi, I'm not going anywhere.
Mimi: Yes, you will, but it's okay. You're a really good guy, and I hope that there's more than one of you out there.
Mimi: No, it's okay. Let's get going. We got to beat the traffic. I love you, Mom.
Bonnie: Me, too, kiddo. Me, too, with all my heart. Forever. Now, come on, you got to go. You got to go. Go, go, go, get your things. Come on. It'll be okay. Go. God. Oh, God.
Jed: Willow. Willow!
Maggie: Hope. Oh, it's Maggie. I'm sorry I missed you. Listen, can you give me a call, will you? I need to talk to you about Willow Stark and the baby she's carrying.
Nick: So, here is my idea. Why don't the four of us go on a double date?
Nick: Because it would be fun. That's why. Come on, you and Jed, me and Chelsea. Do the math.
Abby: There is no me and Jed, Nick. He's just a nice guy whose life I just ruined.
Nick: You're still hung up on Max, huh?
Abby: Well, I guess we're a family of hopeless causes.
Nick: Abby, um, I just saw Max and Mimi, and. . . they seemed tighter than ever. Let me give you some advice, something you used to say to me all the time -- it's time to move on.
Abby: Maybe you're right. Maybe it is time for me to finally move on with my life.
Sami: You were so phenomenal in there. But, Lucas, for the record, I just went to talk to E.J. because I wanted to tell him to stop playing games with us, to stop showing up at restaurants where we are or running around like a servant.
Lucas: Hey, relax. I can fight my own battles, all right?
Sami: I know you can. You were so amazing in there. Do me a favor.
Lucas: What, what, what?
Sami: Don't push E.J., okay? I don't want anything to ever happen to you, Lucas.
Lucas: Don't worry about it. He's not gonna bother us anymore. He's gone. He's moving out. Come on, let's go take a shower. I want to see you naked. Let's get naked together.
E.J.: I'm calling about my father. Was the operation a success? Good. Is he conscious? I want an update every half an hour. And when he wakes, you give him this message -- tell him that our plans will proceed. Tell him I love him.
Officer: Sir, you have the right to remain silent. If you give up the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Steve: I can't believe you'd betray me like this. Do you know what you've done?
Officer: You have the right to speak to an attorney. . .
Officer: . . . And to have the attorney present during questioning.
Kayla: I'm trying to make sure that nothing happens to you or anybody else. I'm sorry if you feel betrayed, but this has got to stop.
Officer: If you so desire and cannot afFord one --
Steve: Shut up! You just signed my death warrant, baby! And this time, I won't be coming back!
Willow: If something were to happen to me, like I show up dead and the autopsy showed that this baby is Shawn's, your rep as Saint Hope will be gone.
Shawn D. : All Willow Stark ever meant to me was just sex.
Belle: So how do I know when you put your hands all over me that it's not just sex?
Kayla: I want the man that I love to come home to me.
Steve: I'm gonna die there, and I'm gonna die knowing you killed me.
