Max: I'd love to, Mimi, but I can't tonight. I'm totally buried, and if I don't get back to work, I... I know it's late. I have three oil changes, a brake job, and a bad trannie all stacked up, and I don't think I'm gonna have enough time as is. Well, I'm sorry, too, baby. I just -- I'll talk to you later, okay? Yeah, I'll try not to. Okay. Okay, bye. What the hell? I didn't leave the lights on. My God, Abby.
Abby: It's about time you showed up.
Max: What are you doing here -- under there? I thought you quit.
Abby: Well, I had left some books in the office, and I noticed that you were all backed up, so I thought I would help.
Abby: I did three oil changes, I bled the brakes, but the trannie's all yours. I didn't want to mess with that.
Max: You did all this for me. Why?
Abby: Well, I felt bad about bailing out on you, and since Shawn was cutting out, I just thought that you needed help.
Max: I, uh, could have --
Abby: Look, face it, Max. You need me more than either one of us realized.
Billie: Chelsea? Chelsea? Are you home? Chelsea? She's still not home.
Nick: Where could she be? We searched everywhere. She won't answer her phone. It's like she just disappeared. Do you think that she might have done something?
Billie: Hey, knock it off. Listen, she just needed some time to herself. She's hurt, and she's upset.
Nick: All because of me and my lies. I shattered her whole world -- all her hopes, all her dreams, everything.
Billie: Okay, you're being a little melodramatic.
Nick: You didn't see her face when I told her the truth -- that I, Nick Fallon the loser, was actually Dr. Shane Patton. Billie, she didn't just look disappointed. She looked betrayed by somebody she thought was her friend. That's what kills me most about this whole thing is -- more than the fact that I might have lost any chance of being with her, I lost a friend.
Billie: Don't be so sure.
Nick: No, I'm sure. And just when I thought she was starting to like the real me, you know, I blew everything. Chelsea hates me, Billie, and I don't blame her.
Chelsea: How could you think that I did favors for Patrick?
Bo: It's all right here in this transcript.
Chelsea: What is this?
Bo: It's Lockhart's statement.
Hope: Bo, calm down.
Chelsea: "Chelsea Benson or Brady was someone I called on to help me from time to time. She had the goods on Bo, her father, and often helped with the little thing so I could stay ahead of the cops." This isn't true! I called you the night John Black was shot. I know that he asked you to get in touch with me, which you did. He arranged it, with in the boathouse with Wells instead of me.
Chelsea: I didn't know that, that's what he was doing, okay? He called me. I called you. The rest of it isn't true, Dad.
Bo: I don't believe you. In fact, I'll never make the mistake of believing you again.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives.
Abby: Well, I drained the old oil, added five cans of fresh, changed the filter, topped the wiper fluid, and put air in the tires. Is there anything I missed?
Max: No, no, that about covers it. You know, if I knew I had such a talented mechanic on my hands, I never -- you still got -- I never would have let you go.
Abby: Well, I learned from the best.
Max: Right, thanks.
Abby: Shawn's a really great mechanic.
Max: Are you kidding me? What?
Abby: I meant you.
Max: Ha ha.
Abby: You know, I used to watch you all the time.
Abby: Yeah. I remember once when this guy came in with some old bucket of bolts, and the engine was gonna explode, and most people would just say, "sorry, I can't help you," but you realized that this guy -- the car was all he had, and you put it back together, piece by piece.
Max: Well, that's what I do. It's what I love.
Abby: Yeah, well, it kind of inspired me to learn more about cars.
Max: I... Um, I really appreciate you helping me. I don't even know what to say.
Abby: You don't have to say anything, Max. Look, I'm gonna go get changed. I'm sure Mimi's on her way over.
Max: No, actually, she's not. I told her I had a lot of work.
Abby: Well, now you don't.
Max: Right. Um, so maybe you want to grab a bite to eat?
Abby: You mean you and me?
Max: Well, taking you to dinner is the least I can do for saving my butt.
Abby: You don't have to do anything, Max. Like I said, I kind of left you in the lurch. Besides, it was kind of fun getting my hands dirty. Beats physics homework any day.
Max: Well, um, for old time's sake? I don't know about you, but I'm starving.
Abby: Uh, okay, I guess. I'll just go get cleaned up, and we'll change.
Billie: Chelsea is not going to hate you forever.
Nick: I wouldn't blame her if she did. I tricked her into falling in love with someone who doesn't exist.
Billie: Okay, but that's not what you set out to do. Okay, it was wrong for you to pretend to be somebody else, but you didn't do it out of selfishness. You weren't malicious about it. You saw someone who was hurting and you reached out to them in the best way you knew how.
Nick: And instead, I just ended up hurting her more.
Billie: Yes, she is upset, but I think you'll find out that what you did was a good thing. Chelsea has more confidence now. She's opening up. She's trusting.
Nick: And look what I did with that trust.
Billie: You made her want to be a better person.
Nick: I didn't make her want to be a better person. Dr. Shane Patton made her want to be a better person, and he doesn't even exist.
Billie: No, no, no. That's where you're wrong. See, you and Dr. Shane Patton are one and the same. It was your words and your sensitivity that Chelsea responded to, and I think pretty soon, she's gonna realize that.
Nick: All she's gonna realize is that I'm an even bigger loser than she ever thought.
Billie: Well, if that's your attitude, then she's right.
Nick: What is that supposed to mean?
Billie: It is time for you to stop feeling sorry for yourself.
Hope: Bo, please. Let's all sit down and discuss this as calmly as possible.
Bo: There isn't anything to discuss. She betrayed us to Lockhart. This is another attempt of hers to destroy our family, only this little stunt put you and our baby in danger.
Chelsea: No, I would never do anything to hurt you or that baby, Hope. I swear to you. You have to believe me. Patrick -- he's lying. He's trying to get out of what he did by accusing me.
Bo: I doubt it.
Chelsea: Why would you believe anything that criminal said over me, your own daughter?
Bo: Because he's got nothing to gain by lying. You obviously do. Ashley, Annie, Kathleen, Kate, Julianna, or Laura?
Billie: Look, what's done is done. Now all we can do is find a way to fix it, if that's what you really want.
Nick: Of course it's what I want, but how do you make somebody stop hating you when they have every right in the world?
Billie: Okay, you're doing it again.
Nick: It's true.
Billie: We make mistakes. You made a mistake, and God knows Chelsea has made a hell of a lot of mistakes. So listen, just give her a chance to cool down. Then talk to her. Make her understand. It's not the end of the world, okay?
Nick: No, the end of the world is when she finds out that you and I slept together.
Billie: Hey. That will never happen.
Nick: Well, that's what I thought about Dr. Shane Patton. I thought Chelsea would never find out if I didn't tell her, but that's not how things worked out, did it?
Billie: So what are you saying, Nick?
Nick: I'm saying that secrets have a way of coming out, so I wouldn't be so sure we're gonna take this one to our graves.
Chelsea: I don't understand. What do you think I had to gain by working with Patrick?
Bo: Your goal has always been the same as his -- to come between me and Hope permanently, so you gave him information.
Chelsea: I didn't give him anything. I don't even trust him.
Bo: Oh, that's why you did exactly what he wanted the night John was shot? The night he kidnaped Hope at gunpoint?
Chelsea: He told me to give you a message saying I saw him and Hope leaving town together in a car.
Bo: But you didn't see him, did you?
Chelsea: No, I didn't. And I thought it was suspicious, which is why I called you right away.
Bo: Come on. There's more to it than that.
Chelsea: No, there's not! And I never thought it was a part of some murder plot. If I had, I never would have helped him. I didn't help him. I...
Bo: You know, you can just stop with the innocent act. We all know what you're capable of.
Chelsea: I am not that person anymore. I have changed. I know better than to come between you and Hope. I know you guys belong together.
Hope: Is that what you thought the night you talked to Patrick?
Chelsea: Then I thought that maybe you two were going away together and maybe there was a chance that dad would go back to mom.
Bo: There you go.
Chelsea: Dad, it's still not what you think. I will admit that Patrick called me and he said that if I helped him, I would benefit from it. He said that he was gonna make Hope leave town for good and that you would be free, but I didn't know that "for good" meant he was gonna kill her and the baby. Dad, you have to believe me. That is the truth. Please tell me that you believe that. Please.
Abby: I still cannot believe that the guy in the church turned out to be Mimi's dad.
Max: Yeah, tell me about it. But they did a DNA test, and it turns out that they are David Lockhart.
Abby: Poor Mimi.
Abby: How did he end up in the church anyway?
Max: Well, that we don't know, and whoever does isn't telling.
Abby: Well, do you think her mom knows anything about it?
Max: She suspects her mom and Conner both know more than what they're saying. But the cops are all over the case, anyway, so hopefully, they'll get to the bottom of it, you know?
Abby: Well, how's Mimi holding up through all this? I mean, on top of everything that's happening with Patrick, she must be a basket case.
Max: That is an understatement. She's totally freaked out, and she's beating herself up for all the bad things she's thought of her father over the years -- that he just took off and abandoned her and the family.
Abby: And all this time, he's been dead.
Max: Yeah, and her biggest fear is that...everyone in her family is gonna go to jail and end up like Patrick and she won't have anyone else.
Abby: Well, she has you.
Max: Yeah. For what that's worth.
Abby: What do you mean? I'm sure it's worth a lot.
Max: I'm not -- I'm trying to help her with everything. I'm trying to be there for her with all of this, but it's just... she deserves a break. She's a good person. She really deserves a break. She's not the way you think.
Abby: You don't have to convince me, Max. If you say she's a good person, I believe you.
Max: Sorry... for going off on you like that. I mean, it's just this past, you know, couple of weeks -- it's just been... I've felt a little overwhelmed by everything -- all of this. It's a lot, you know?
Abby: I know it is, and it's like you feel a responsibility to fix everything for her.
Max: Right. I mean, I want to be there for her. I want to help her out, you know?
Abby: It's like being friends with Chelsea sometimes. It's draining, and after a while, you feel like your whole life has just disappeared -- or it will if you don't start paying attention to it.
Max: Yeah, exactly. Ooh. God, that feels good getting it off your chest, though, doesn't it? I mean, I kind of felt, even saying those words, I'd be letting Mimi down.
Abby: Listen, uh, while we're being honest here, I have something to tell you -- something that I need to get off my chest.
Max: Okay, yeah. What's up?
Abby: It's about the way I acted toward Mimi and all of the awful things I said to her. You must have thought I was such a brat, but the truth is... I was jealous.
Abby: Of the two of you, and I'm really sorry.
Billie: Look, you've got enough to deal with as it is. Chelsea will never know about this.
Nick: Okay, Chelsea will never find out, hopefully, because if she does, we're both dead.
Billie: As far as I can tell, you've still got a pulse, so you're not dead yet. So we have to focus on the positives.
Nick: What positives?
Billie: Well, Nick, you're smart and attractive and funny and...and you've got a lot to offer a girl, and there's one thing you haven't thought about. Chelsea likes you -- a lot more than she's willing to let on.
Nick: Did she say that?
Billie: Not in so many words. But if she didn't, she wouldn't be so devastated by what you did.
Nick: So what you're saying is that I should be glad that Chelsea hates me?
Billie: What I'm saying is that passion works in all kinds of different ways. Listen to me. If she didn't care about you, she wouldn't be so devastated by what you did.
Nick: Do you mind if I ask you a question?
Billie: Um, no. What?
Nick: Why is it so important to you for me to stay in your daughter's life? I would just think that, uh, after what we did, you wouldn't want me anywhere near her.
Chelsea: Dad, please tell me that you believe me.
Bo: I want to believe you, kid. You have no idea how much. But I can't. Not anymore.
Chelsea: Dad, please.
Bo: You have proven to me that you can't be trusted. You're a threat to this family, and because of that, I can't have you around here anymore. You are no longer welcome in this house.
Hope: Bo, we need to talk privately.
Bo: No. There's nothing more to talk about. I'm through with her.
Chelsea: Dad, please don't do this. I need you in my life. I need this family, and you and Hope and mom and the baby -- you guys are all I have.
Bo: Well, I guess you should have thought of that a long time ago, huh?
Chelsea: I did.
Bo: Chelsea, how many chances have I given you? How many times have we stood here like this, and you've told me that you've changed?
Chelsea: I have, Dad. I have. I swear it.
Bo: I got to protect my family. I want you out of my house. Don't ever come back.
Chelsea: Dad, please, I swear I didn't do --
Bo: Get out of my house before I throw you out.
Billie: I want you in Chelsea's life because I think you'd be good for her, because you've helped her become the type of person I always knew she could be.
Nick: I think you just want me in Chelsea's life because you're afraid she's gonna go.
Billie: I think that now that everything is out in the open and she knows the truth, you two would be good for each other, so please, don't give up on her. Give her some time.
Bo: I couldn't believe it when Roman showed me that transcript. How could Chelsea -- how could she help Lockhart out like... what are you doing?
Hope: I'm calling Billie. Your daughter is devastated, and someone needs to go after her and make sure she's -- Billie, hey, it's Hope. Listen, I just thought you should know that Chelsea left here just a few moments ago very upset, and I'm worried about her.
Billie: Is this about Nick?
Hope: No, she told us all about the e-mails, but this is something else -- something worse.
Hope: She and Bo had a huge argument, and he told her to leave and never to come back.
Billie: Oh, no. Why?
Hope: I don't think we should get into it over the phone. Please, just find her.
Billie: Yeah, thank you. Thank you, Hope. Thanks for letting me know. I'll take care of it. Chelsea and her father had a huge argument. She took off. I don't know where she went. Where would she go?
Nick: I don't know. We searched everywhere, right? Abby. She'll try to find Abby. Oh, my God.
Max: You were jealous of me and Meems?
Abby: You couldn't tell?
Max: No, no.
Abby: All right, well, confession time.
Abby: Um... I had a huge crush on you back then, and when you started falling for Mimi, I was less than thrilled, so I acted really immature, and I said things about her that weren't fair, and I apologize.
Max: Abs, you don't have to apologize. I just can't believe I didn't see it before. I'm sorry.
Abby: No, it's no big deal. I'm happy to say I've grown up a little since then. Actually, a lot.
Max: Yeah. I wish I could say the same.
Abby: Max, what's going on?
Max: What do you mean?
Abby: Well, something's wrong. I know that you're overwhelmed with all of Mimi's stuff, but it's more than that, isn't it?
Max: It's a lot more. It's my whole life. I don't know what to do with it. And it's like there's something missing, and whatever it is, it's right there in front of my face, and I just can't see it.
Abby: Lucky for you, I can. You need to get back on the circuit and start racing again before you go crazy.
Max: How did you know I've been thinking about racing again?
Abby: It's not a huge leap. It's what you love. It's in your blood. Now, what I don't understand is how you've stayed away from it as long as you have.
Max: I've stayed away because I've moved on. That chapter of my life is over.
Abby: Why? Why did you quit?
Max: Just seemed like the right time. Okay, you want the truth -- something I haven't admitted to anyone, maybe not even myself? I'm scared.
Abby: You're scared?
Max: I feel like a loser saying that, but ever since the crash with Stephanie, I've been thinking about it. I could have died that day, and worst of all, someone else almost did.
Abby: It wasn't your fault, Max.
Max: I know. it's...
Abby: So what are you scared of?
Max: I'm scared that it might happen -- that I could make a mistake and screw up and hurt someone else, and I'm afraid to take that chance.
Abby: Max, you know that any team in the country would kill to have you, so you have to get back in there. If you're not ready to drive, then at least get back to the pit. Get back in the game and take it from there. I know it won't be long till you're ready, but at least you'll know for sure.
Max: Anyone ever told you how smart you are?
Abby: All the time. But not lately.
Max: Well, you are. And thanks...you know, for coming out tonight -- talking and listening. I really needed it.
Abby: You're welcome, but I'm sure that you have lots of other people to talk to and hang out with.
Max: No, not like this. I really missed you.
Abby: I've missed you, too.
Max: Look, I don't know if the timing's right at this point, but, um, you're not the only one who had a crush.
Bo: I'm serious, Hope. Chelsea -- she's out of our lives for good. I can't do this anymore.
Hope: I know you're upset, and you have every right to be. But she's not the only one who's made mistakes, Brady.
Bo: Hope, I wouldn't call helping a guy who tried to murder my wife a mistake.
Hope: She said --
Bo: What she says is one thing, and what she does is another. Look at what she's done over the past year. You were right in the beginning. She's bad news.
Hope: Bo, I think maybe --
Bo: What about Zack? What about our little boy?
Hope: That was a mistake.
Bo: So, what? We're just supposed to forget about it?
Hope: No. Never. But hanging on to all this anger -- it isn't going to help. A lot's changed since then -- for all of us.
Billie: What are you doing here?
Chelsea: Oh, um, Abby said that she was gonna meet me here, so I'm just waiting. She's not here yet.
Billie: Well, I'm here. I'm here, okay? Everything's gonna be all right.
Chelsea: No, it's not. Mom, I -- I just realized I'm not meant to be loved. It doesn't matter how I am -- if I'm good or if I'm bad or anywhere in between. No one's ever gonna love me.
Billie: That is not true. I love you, and the Brady’s love you.
Nick: And your friends love you.
Chelsea: What are you doing here?
Billie: Chelsea, Nick was worried about you. He came by the house.
Chelsea: Well, he shouldn't have bothered. Nick, I told you that I don't ever want to see you again, and I meant it, okay?! So get out!
Chelsea: I said get out! Leave, Nick! Go!
Billie: Nick, okay, you can go now. I'll take care of it.
Chelsea: What are you waiting for? Leave! Go!
Billie: It's okay. Well, wow. It's been quite a night for you, hasn't it? Between Nick and your dad.
Chelsea: You heard.
Billie: Yeah. Nick told me what happened. You know, he never meant to hurt you, Chelsea.
Chelsea: And dad?
Billie: Well, you know, your dad's got a temper. He doesn't mean the things that he says.
Chelsea: You know what I realized tonight, Mom? You and I -- we're really not really that different, because every time that we think we find one shred of happiness, it doesn't work out. It's like we're cursed.
Billie: We are not cursed. On the contrary, I have a beautiful daughter who came back to me after all these years, and I have never been happier in my whole life. Don't you understand how blessed I feel? I thought that you were lost to me forever.
Chelsea: All I've ever done is caused you pain and misery. Honestly, I probably just should have stayed lost. It would have been better off for everybody.
Billie: Listen, we have had some growing pains, our family. Yes, we have, but you have come a long way in these past few months, and I am proud of the person that you have become, and I am proud to say that you are my daughter.
Chelsea: Well, you obviously haven't heard the whole story then, because once you do, you'll probably change your mind out that.
Hope: I've done a lot of thinking, trying to figure out where things went wrong. And, of course, undoubtedly, it all started with Zack's death. But the truth -you are to blame for the disintegration of our family.
Bo: You're blaming us? Hope, Chelsea --
Hope: Chelsea -- yes, in her worst, most desperate moments saw opportunities and definitely took advantage of them. But you know what? We allowed her to do it because we turned our backs on each other when we needed each other the most. Bo, please. Let's not do the same thing to Chelsea. Hey, we're a family again. Finally, we're starting to heal. We can't tear our family apart -- not again.
Bo: I don't understand. She's been the one trying to tear us apart. I'm doing this for us -- for you. Hope, you're the reason I'm willing to turn my back on Chelsea.
Hope: Then you haven't listened to anything I've said. Because that's not what I want.
Abby: You? You're saying that you had a crush, too? On me?
Max: Well, when Chelsea and I broke up and you started working at the garage, I thought about asking you out.
Abby: No way.
Max: Is that so hard to believe? I mean, how could I not be attracted to you -- a girl who's both beautiful and nice? And after the nightmare that was Chelsea, it seemed almost impossible. And so did dating you.
Max: Well, number one, you're Chelsea's best friend, and it was the wrong timing. And number two, there's the age thing.
Abby: Excuse me, I am nearly the same age as Chelsea.
Max: I'm just saying you seem a little younger, more innocent.
Max: The point is there's like six years' difference between us, and it might seem like much when you're older, but at our ages, it really is. I don't think your parents would appreciate me hitting on their little girl.
Abby: Oh, please.
Max: Your dad's crazy. No offense, but I could totally see him flying across that ocean and kicking my butt.
Abby: Okay, now I know that you're just kidding.
Max: I promise you I'm not. That's the main reason why I held back. And I'm beginning to wonder if that wasn't a huge mistake. I missed our chance, huh? It's too late.
Abby: Yeah, I guess so.
Max: So, now that you're this big co-ed at Salem "U," you must have tons of guys just falling all over you.
Max: Oh, really? Really? So, how's going back to school? Are you liking it?
Abby: Yeah, it's good. I'm really glad Chelsea talked me back into going full-time. You know, for a bit, I was feeling like you -- like I didn't know what I was gonna do with my life. Not that I didn't love working at the garage.
Max: It's not exactly a calling.
Abby: Yeah, not for me.
Max: Well, you made the right choice, and I'm really proud of you, even if I miss you around.
Abby: Hey, you're not getting rid of me that easy. I'll be stopping by to check up on you and make sure you're not falling down on the job again.
Max: You will, huh?
Abby: Well, somebody has to crack the whip.
Max: I think you're right. I think you need to keep me in line, so name your price.
Abby: Hmm, $1 million a year and free repairs on my car.
Max: I'm getting off cheap. I'll have you know, so you got yourself a deal.
Nick: Dr. Rebert? What are you doing here?
Dr. Rebert: I'm just finishing up some work. What's your excuse?
Nick: I just came to finish up some lab reports. I didn't want to go home.
Dr. Rebert: That bad, huh?
Dr. Rebert: You want to talk about it?
Nick: Not really.
Dr. Rebert: I understand.
Nick: Okay, you know that girl Chelsea -- the one who thought that you were Dr. Shane Patton? She essentially just told me to go to hell. She hates me.
Dr. Rebert: I'm sorry to hear that.
Nick: I really liked her.
Dr. Rebert: I don't blame you. She seemed really nice... not to mention beautiful and a really great kisser. I mean, that is one passionate lady. Try not to take it so hard. Someone else will come along. They always do.
Nick: Maybe for you.
Dr. Rebert: In the meantime, you've got your work to keep you busy.
Nick: Thanks, Dr. Rebert.
Dr. Rebert: Sure. Anytime. Anyways, I think I've just filled this job.
Chelsea: So there you have it. Dad thinks I betrayed the family again.
Billie: Well, you just got to give him a little time. He's obviously freaked out about this whole Patrick thing.
Chelsea: Mom, I swear to God I did not help him. I mean, I never meant to.
Billie: Okay, listen, I know that you're telling the truth. I know you, and I can see that you're being honest.
Chelsea: Then why can't dad?
Billie: Because he's just -- you know, he's just being protective of his family.
Chelsea: Yeah, everybody in it but me.
Billie: That's not true. Remember how he helped you after the accident with Zack?
Chelsea: Yeah. It almost cost him Hope. I almost cost him Hope.
Billie: Hey, he's just being a little more cautious this time, but that doesn't mean that he'll never forgive you.
Chelsea: He's never gonna believe anything I say anymore, Mom, even if it is the truth.
Billie: He will. You've just got to give him some time, and you have to make more of an effort to prove to him that you've changed. And I think you can do it because I believe in you. And the good thing is that Hope Believes in you, too.
Chelsea: No, she doesn't. She was starting to forgive me --
Billie: No, she told me. She believes in you.
Chelsea: She said that?
Billie: Yes, she did. So come on. Let's go home and raid the chocolate cupboard or something, okay?
Hope: Don't do that. Don't say you're cutting Chelsea off from me, because that's not what I want. She's a Brady. She is part of this family, and she’s not working with Patrick, then I think we should take her word over his.
Bo: What good is her word? What good has it ever been?
Hope: Wouldn't you say the same thing about Patrick?
Hope: Bo, she is trying. She really is. We never, ever talked, and I could see the change in her. I could see that she was genuinely sorry for everything that she had done to us.
Bo: Come on, Fancy Face, she's always sorry about something.
Hope: What about what she did for Shawn and Belle -- how she put herself on the line for them by taking the money to Toronto with Nick. Why would she do that if she wasn't trying to make an amends?
Bo: I don't know. Why does she do anything?
Hope: She did it for her brother, and she did it to make her father proud of her. Can't you see that? That is all she wants. Can't you see that she craves your approval? If you turn your back on her now, I don't even want to think about what could happen. She needs you -- her father. Actually, I think she needs both of us.
Bo: You got a big heart, Fancy Face. It's one of the many reasons I love you so much. But, no, I can't give Chelsea another chance. I can't.
Billie: Knowing my daughter the way I do, it's gonna take a while before she forgives you. A while could be a very long time.
Chelsea: If I get the job, I'm pretty sure I could use him to make Nick jealous.
Steve: Those DiMeras can come after me all they want. I couldn't take losing you again, sweetness.
E.J.: Nothing is too good for you, Father.
