Bo: John, you got to get me out of here. You got to convince Abe and Roman I'm innocent.
John: I'm working on it.
Bo: I didn't touch Lockhart. It was Wells.
John: I know you're right. E.J. Wells is the one who administered that beating.
Bo: So how do we prove it?
John: That's why I'm here. I'm heading to Italy tonight.
Bo: What are you gonna do there?
John: You know what Celeste said. She's convinced that E.J. is somehow connected to the DiMeras, so I'm going right to the source.
Bo: But Stefano's dead.
John: I'll believe that when I have absolute proof -- maybe not even then. The old man and Tony, their payroll is still full of loyal wise guys -- one of them might be pulling the strings.
Bo: What are you gonna do if you find him?
John: First thing I do is find out who the hell E.J. really is and what he's up to. That's where you come in.
Bo: John, I'm behind bars.
John: Here's what I want you to do. You cover for me with Marlena.
Tek: If I were a few years older and white.
Abe: Kramer. What the hell are you doing here?
Tek: I came here to see you. You -- you all right?
Abe: Yeah, I'm fine. I got nothing to say to you.
Tek: I'll do all the talking, then. I'm having a little trouble finding employment in the law-enforcement field.
Abe: Expect me to give a damn?
Tek: I expect you to give me a recommendation.
Lexie: Kayla, I'm going to order some --
Kayla: Oh, hi.
Lexie: What -- are you all right?
Kayla: I'm doing yoga. It's very relaxing. You should try it.
Lexie: Thanks. I'll stick with my martinis. But I wouldn't recommend either for you right now, young lady.
Kayla: Oh, you know what? If I go from that bedroom to that couch one more time, I really am gonna lose my mind.
Lexie: Kayla, be a good patient.
Kayla: I'm a doctor. We are notoriously bad patients. I just feel like an invalid, and I can't stand it. I can't stand the way it makes me feel, and, more importantly, I just hate what it's doing to Steve.
Lexie: To Steve?
Kayla: You know, I'd like to believe that he's here because he wants to be here with me, but I don't think that's the truth. I think he feels trapped, and that's the last thing I wanted.
[Pounding on door]
Billie: All right, all right! Just keep your shirt on!
Steve: Do I have to?
Billie: Yes. And your pants, too.
Steve: Well, you're no fun.
Billie: What are you doing here?
Steve: I knew you wouldn't take my calls, so I thought I'd just stop by and bust my way in.
Billie: Hey! Today's not exactly a good day.
Steve: Really? What makes this my unlucky day?
Billie: Bo's been arrested.
Steve: I heard about that -- good cop gone bad.
Billie: It's not like that. You know Bo isn't like that. This arrest isn't his fault.
Steve: Oh, stand by your man and all that, huh?
Billie: He's not my man. But is my friend. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go to the jail.
Steve: Let me just get to it. That photo of you and Bo --
Billie: Hold on, yeah, let's talk about the photo. Chelsea took that photo. She is so hell-bent on getting her parents back together, she will do anything. And no matter how many times I tell her that it's not gonna happen -- she walked in on us, and she took the photo.
Steve: Billie, listen.
Billie: No, nothing happened.
Steve: It doesn't matter. It doesn't change the way I feel about you.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives
Abe: There must be something wrong with the acoustics in here. I could have sworn I heard you ask me for a recommendation.
Tek: Your hearing's 20/20.
Abe: Well, I hope yours is. Get the hell out of here.
Tek: I really misread you.
Abe: You must have thought I was some moron who'd forget you slept with his wife.
Tek: No, I thought you'd put aside our differences and do what was right..
Abe: What the hell would you know about doing what's right?
Tek: I'm a good cop, Abe, and you know it. I busted my butt on the job. I cracked cases that everybody else had given up on. [Sighs] You know, I think I spent more nights here than I did in my own house, in my own bed.
Abe: I doubt that.
Tek: You don't like me, and I get that, but this isn't about you and me or me and Lexie. This is about my work as a police officer, and you can't deny I upheld the law as well as any cop you ever had.
Abe: You broke the law. Lexie had a restraining order against you, and that's real! I should have thrown your butt in jail.
Tek: But you didn't 'cause you know I'm not the only one responsible for what happened.
Abe: Get the hell out of here.
Tek: I'm asking you for a professional recommendation. Throw in a P.S. if it makes you feel any better -- "don't trust this guy with your wife" -- but give me my due.
Abe: If I gave you what you got coming, we'd both regret it.
Tek: We were friends once, Abe. I looked up to you. I wanted to be like you, a man of integrity.
Abe: There you go throwing around words like "integrity" like it means something to you.
Tek: It did to you, and it still does. Prove it, Abe. Do the right thing.. Give me a recommendation. It's only fair.
Lexie: I think you're wrong. Steve's a big boy. If he felt trapped, he'd leave.
Kayla: You didn't know Steve before.
Lexie: No, but he seems like a "yes" means yes, "no" means no kind of a man.
Kayla: Well, to a point -- to the point where he would think that he might be hurting someone. Look, I know he seems incredibly tough on the outside, but he has this heart. I just think that he would hold back if he thought that the truth would hurt me.
Lexie: So you don't think he's being honest with you?
Kayla: I just think it's incredibly convenient that his memory comes back to him just at the right time to save my life.
Lexie: You know what they say -- truth is stranger than fiction.
Kayla: Where I come from, that's called "unbelievable."
Lexie: You don't think Steve has his memory back?
Kayla: I think he's lying, and I think he's doing it for my sake.
Steve: It's true. The picture... you and Bo together doesn't change the way I feel about you.
Billie: So why'd you cancel on me?
Steve: There was an emergency with Kayla.
Billie: Is she all right?
Steve: She's all right. Now I'm here. I want to explain some things.
Billie: You don't have to. Hope already told me everything. She told me how you faked having your memory back to save Kayla's life.
Steve: It was all an act.
Billie: [Laughs] Wow. That was a really good one, 'cause you had me fooled.
Steve: I was trying to help Kayla. This turned into a big mess I don't know how to get out of.
Billie: Don't sell yourself short. You saved Kayla's life.
Steve: Yeah, I guess that counts for something.
Billie: It does. It counts for a lot, especially with the Brady’s.
Steve: I'll tell you what, it's the last time I try to do something good..
Billie: I doubt that.
Steve: I'm gonna go back to being the same selfish jerk I know and love.
Billie: Hey. That is never who you were. So what are you doing here?
Steve: I can't stop thinking about you.
Billie: I'm an all-or-nothing kind of girl.
Steve: All I need is some time.
Billie: [Inhales sharply] Okay. Okay, but... I'm warning you. If I can't have all of you... I don't want any of you.
Billie: So, did you think I'd jump your bones because you came over here and told me that you wanted me?
Steve: No, I just wanted to tell you.
Billie: Thanks. You told me.
Steve: So what happens now?
Billie: I'm guessing you go back to Kayla.
Steve: Just until...
Billie: She's well enough for you to tell her the truth.
Steve: That's right.
Billie: Do you know when that's gonna be?
Steve: No, I'm no doctor.
Billie: Exactly. So, in the meantime, I just hang out here and I sit around and I wait for Kayla to get better. And who knows how long that's gonna take? It could take a week, a couple months, a year, who knows? So I sit here, and I wonder, "gee, why is it taking so long?" Is it because maybe Steve remembered that he has feelings for Kayla, huh? No, this is safe for you here. Being here is safe. You're scared to be with Kayla, so you come over here because you got nothing to lose. I get it. I've been down that road. I've done that dance. And if you don't mind, I'd like to sit this one out.
Steve: I'm not Bo.
Billie: You're not available! Don't you get it? You may think you are, but you're not! This is my turn. This is my chance. When do I get to be number one? Right now. I get to be number one right now. For once in my life.
Lexie: So you want to tell me why you think that Steve is pretending to have his memory back?
Kayla: To keep me alive. And I think now he's stuck, and he feels like he has to stay for my sake and for Stephanie's.
Lexie: I don't know, Kayla. I still believe that Steve is staying with you because he wants to.
Kayla: You know what, Lexie? I know Steve better than anyone. And when I look at his face, I...I see sadness and pain, not love and desire.
Lexie: So what are you going to do?
Kayla: I don't know. I have to find a way to get to the truth, let him know that he has an out and... that he's free to go.
Lexie: Okay, let's say you give him this out, okay, you let him go, but what he really wants is to be with you. You could push him away, lose him forever. Is that what you really want to do?
Abe: Fair. [Chuckles] You want to talk about what's fair with me.
Tek: Maybe I was a lousy friend, but I'm a good cop.
Abe: You know, high scores on the shooting range, memorizing the police handbook do not make you a good police officer. What matters -- what's in here. And you got nothing. You're empty! You don't give a damn about anybody but yourself. Not your fellow officers --
Tek: That's not true!
Abe: You slept with your superior's wife! And you didn't give a damn how it affected the people you work with. It was a slap in the face of every officer.
Tek: It was a slap in the face to you.
Abe: No, you did it, pal! You blew up your own personal life. The problem with that -- now the fallout is everywhere. Get the hell out of here. I got work to do.
Bo: So Marlena doesn't know why you're going to Italy.
John: I told her I was going on some business for Basic Black.
Bo: And she believed you?
John: Seemed to.
Bo: You don't convince her, she's gonna do more digging.
John: That's where you come in. First place she's gonna dig is right here.
Bo: And you want me to lie and tell her you're not chasing bad guys.
John: Yeah. Good idea.
John: Listen, Bo, last time I filled her in, she jumped out of my plane at 4,000 feet. I don't want to put her in that position again.
Bo: I know what you mean.
John: So we're good on this? You're gonna back me up with Doc?
Bo: On one condition. You take me with you.
John: [Exhales sharply]
Kayla: I just can't act like everything is all right.
Lexie: Kayla, maybe it is. All this anxiety isn't good for you. You need to relax.
Kayla: That's it.
Kayla: I need to relax. I need to take it easy. Steve and I need to go away together.
Lexie: No, not a good idea.
Kayla: This is a great idea. This is the way I am gonna find out the truth. I am going to take him to a place that we have been before, some place that he would definitely have to remember.
Lexie: Kayla, you are in no condition to travel right now.
Kayla: I need to do this, and I'm sure you understand.
Lexie: Yeah, I do, but I -- [Sighs] Okay, okay. But only if I go with you.
Kayla: What kind of romantic getaway would that be?
Lexie: The only kind I'm going to agree to.
Kayla: All right. Fine. It might be a good idea... because if this goes the way I think it's going to, I'm gonna need a friend.
Steve: You're right. You do deserve to be number one in someone's life.
Billie: So why did you come here?
Steve: I don't know. I just wanted to know if you still feel something for me.
Billie: Why are you doing this to me?
Steve: I'm sorry. I'm not trying to hurt you.
Billie: What do you want from me?
Steve: Tell me if you feel anything for me. I'll take care of the rest.
Billie: Yes, I do. And it's killing me.
Steve: I'm gonna make this right.
Steve: Trust me.
John: You want to go to Italy with me.
Bo: I'll make bail tomorrow.
John: Got to be today. If I'm onto the DiMeras, they're onto me. I got to stay one step ahead. Besides, I think you've got your hands full here.
Bo: I'll beat these bogus charges.
John: And there's Patrick Lockhart and what he's up to with Hope. I'll handle Italy. You handle this situation here. And good luck with Marlena.
Bo: I already promised her --
John: Yeah, I promised her, too, and I hate like hell lying to her, but, damn it, it's for her own good. This is all gonna be over really soon, so what do you say?
Bo: I say if you don't get back in one piece, Marlena will kill the both of us. Take care, man.
John: Always do.
Abe: I told you to go.
Tek: I was hoping we could do this on the D.L., But, uh, if you're gonna get in my face, I'm gonna have to get in yours.
Abe: This is Commissioner Carver. I want some officers in --
Tek: I got a call from the State's Attorney. He had a few questions about how the department's being run, specifically the kind of job you're doing. I thought that might interest you.
Abe: So the State Prosecutor asked your opinion of my performance.
Tek: Mm-hmm. Mine and a lot of others. You blowing the E.J. Wells case sent up a few red flags.
Abe: E.J. Wells is guilty, and I'm gonna prove it.
Tek: It doesn't matter if Wells is a boy scout or the head of the mafia. You made a mess. Now the State's Attorney wants to clean it up. So I can help him, or I can help you..
Abe: Go to hell.
Tek: If I go down, you're going with me.
Abe: [Laughs] You know, you're a bitter ex-police officer with an axe to grind. Nobody is gonna listen to what you have to say.
Tek: They will when I tell them that Commissioner Carver forced a bright, young detective with an exemplary record out of the department for sleeping with his wife.
Tek: What do you say, Abe? You give me a good rec, I give you one.
Abe: That's blackmail.
Tek: I call it an even trade.
Abe: You know, you're a lousy police officer and a lousy excuse for a human being.
Tek: Yeah, I know. You've made that pretty clear. But, uh... let's not waste any more time. Why don't you just give me what I want, and you'll get what you want?
Abe: What I want... is to never see your face again.
Tek: Offer's about to expire, Abe.
Abe: All right. Okay. Uh, I'll have Roman write up a letter for you.
Tek: [Sighs] I'll pick it up tomorrow.
Abe: I'll mail it. Get the hell out of here, and don't come back.
Officer: You got a visitor.
Bo: Hey, Marlena.
Marlena: Hi. Am I your only visitor?
Bo: No, Roman came by earlier.
Marlena: What about John?
Bo: Yeah, he did stop by to say he was headed to Europe -- Paris, I think it was.
Marlena: Are you sure it wasn't Italy?
Bo: Could have been. Basic Black keeps him pretty busy.
Marlena: Is that what he said?
Bo: Yeah, what else?
Marlena: I thought maybe he was going there to investigate E.J. Wells.
Bo: He's been cleared of all illegal activities.
Marlena: I did hear that. I didn't believe that. And I figured if I don't believe it, neither will Abe or Roman.
Bo: Actually, they're the ones who went on TV--
Marlena: Because their superior demanded that. Doesn't mean there can't be an unofficial investigation.
Bo: And you think they asked John to do that?
Marlena: I do. And I think you know about it. So let's stop playing games, shall we? John is not going to Europe for Basic Black. He's going to investigate E.J. Wells, isn't he?
Bo: The less you know about this --
Marlena: The less I know, the more I worry about it, Bo. You can't imagine what's going through my head right now.
Bo: Actually, I can.
Marlena: Okay. Then, right or wrong, I have a right to know what's going on. We're talking about DiMeras. Do you understand that? The truth could not frighten me more than what I'm thinking already.
Bo: John asked me to look out for you.
Marlena: Then do that by telling me the truth. Bo, if you don't do this and something happens to John... I will never forgive you.
Bo: I can't tell you any more than I already have. Thanks for stopping by.
Marlena: Bo, don't do this to me. If Hope were in trouble and I could help, you'd want me to, wouldn't you? And I would help you. All right. I'm begging you, Bo. Tell me what John is up to.
Bo: Okay. Yeah, he went to Italy to look for the DiMeras. You okay?
Marlena: Mm-hmm. Thanks for telling me.
Bo: Hey, hey, promise me you won't do anything stupid.
Marlena: I got to go.
Bo: Marlena. Marlena.
Lexie: Hey, babe.
Abe: Oh, Lex. I didn't expect you.
Lexie: I was in the neighborhood. Thought I'd come by and see how you were doing.
Abe: I'm busy.
Lexie: Yeah, well, it looked like you had a lot on your mind when I came in.
Abe: Yeah, you could say that.
Lexie: Ah. Um... want to tell me what it is?
Abe: Well, just as I thought things couldn't get any worse, Tek stopped by.
Lexie: [Sighs] What did he want?
Abe: A letter of recommendation.
Lexie: Oh, Abe, you've got to be kidding me. I hope you told him where to go.
Abe: I said I'd give it to him.
Lexie: You what?!
Abe: I had Roman write it up. I just want all this to be over, Lex. It's over now. It's over.
Lexie: Is it?
Abe: Yeah, yeah.
Lexie: Then something else is going on besides Tek. You want to tell me what it is?
Abe: There's just all kinds of stuff going on around here. That's all. Damn.
Lexie: Okay. Let me help you with that.
Abe: No, I got it. I got it.
Lexie: Okay, okay. Honey, what is going on?
Abe: It's my eyes -- they're getting worse. [Door opens]
Steve: Where's Lexie?
Kayla: Um, she went out.
Kayla: Yeah, out. You know, I'm really starting to go stir crazy in this room. I was kind of hoping to get away for a while.
Steve: Oh, yeah, I hear you.
Steve: I'm sure it'd be cool for you to take a little ride, a few hours out of this place.
Kayla: Actually, I was thinking more like a few days.
Steve: Well, I'm not sure you're ready for that.
Kayla: Well, Lexie is. She already gave the approval.
Steve: She did?
Kayla: Mm-hmm... as long as I take her with me. And, you know, I was actually thinking I would want to go to the mountains. I think that peace and quiet would be really good for me.
Steve: Maybe you should wait a couple weeks.
Kayla: I don't wait. I want to go now, and I want you to go with me.
Marlena: If the bar is open, I'll have a white wine.
Marlena: Hello. Pinot Grigio, if you have it.
John: Yes, I do. Marlena...
John: As much as I would love to have you along on this trip with me...
Marlena: To... Italy. Isn't that where we're going?
John: Look, Doc, I told you I'm gonna be taking business meetings 24/7. You're gonna go out of your mind waiting around for me. So I'll tell you what -- how about you stay right here? And I'll go take care of business, and then the two of us can go on a real vacation together.
Marlena: Hmm. How about this? How about you quit lying to me, we go to Europe together, and we try to catch DiMera together?
John: Who told you?
Marlena: Nobody had to tell me -- I knew.
Lexie: Honey, I am so sorry.
Abe: Don’t. Not here.
Lexie: Abe, people are going to find out.
Abe: Well, they can’t. If they do, that would mean the end of my career.
Lexie: You can't just ignore this. You have to see your doctor.
Abe: It won't do any good.
Lexie: It could be something as simple as changing your meds.
Abe: It could be a lot worse.
Lexie: You need to see your doctor.
Abe: I can't give the mayor and his buddies any more ammunition to use against me.
Lexie: How could they? Why would they even want to?
Abe: I'm just in major hot water because of this E.J. Wells mess.
Lexie: Yeah, okay.
Abe: It's a P.R. nightmare. And these people want to make me the scapegoat. And this is the perfect excuse for it.
Lexie: Honey, they can't fire you because you're sick.
Abe: But they can insist that I take medical leave. That's the perfect out. It saves face for the department. They get rid of me all at the same time.
Lexie: They wouldn't do that, not after all you've given to the force. Sweetheart, this is my whole life. All I've ever done is be a police officer. I can't lose that. I -- I won’t. I won’t.
Steve: So you want us to go away together, huh?
Kayla: It's what I need. It's what we both need.
Steve: I don’t know, baby. That sounds like a bad idea.
Kayla: It's a great idea -- clean air, a change of scenery, away from everybody else in the world, just the two of us. I think it sounds perfect.
Steve: What if you have a relapse again?
Kayla: Just thinking about this makes me feel better. And if anything were to happen, Lexie is right there. She could take care of any problem.
Steve: There are a lot of germs on airplanes. I think you might be better off just staying here, taking a day trip or two.
Kayla: It's very sweet of you to worry about me, but the truth is, I'm sick of being fussed over. I want to live again. And I want you to live again.
Steve: I'm fine.
Kayla: No, you're not fine. You were cooped up in that quarantine room just as long as I was, and you're still here, and you're not even sick.
Steve: Well, you know, whatever I did, I did to help you.
Kayla: And you did that. And you did a great job. But let's do this for the two of us. You don’t want to go away with me?
Steve: It's not that.
Kayla: Well, then, what is it? Oh, Steve, you know what? You can tell me.. You can tell me anything.
Lexie: Abe. If you lose the support of your colleagues, your job, your eyesight, you will still have me. You will always have me, okay?
Abe: Just promise me... promise me you won't say anything.
Lexie: Okay, okay. I promise only if after this whole E.J. situation is wrapped up that you'll see your doctor.
Abe: It's a deal.
Lexie: There's always the possibility of another cornea transplant.
Abe: I can't go there yet. I can’t.
Lexie: Okay, okay.
Abe: Uh...look, sweetheart, I know you're just trying to help.
Lexie: Yeah, yeah, I... I am.
Abe: You know, um... maybe you could help me get out of here without bumping into anything.
Lexie: You know what? I'm gonna do you one better. I will you get you in and out of here every single day. I'll be your personal chauffeur.
Abe: I can't ask you to do that.
Lexie: You didn’t. I offered.
Abe: Have I told you today that I love you?
Lexie: No, you haven't, Abe Carver. Not today, no.
Abe: [Chuckles] I love you.
Lexie: I love you, too, sweetheart. Come on. Let's -- let's go home, okay?
Abe: Yeah. Yeah.
Lexie: Here's the door.
Kayla: Please. Just tell me what's going on with you.
Steve: What's going on with me -- I don’t know. [Sighs] When we were locked up in that room, it was like time stopped. And now here we are. We're living here together. We're talking about going away.
Kayla: I know, but I think this is just what we need.
Steve: I don’t know what I need.
Kayla: If there is some reason that you don’t want to go away with me... you can tell me. It's okay.
Steve: No. I think we should do it. Let's go.
Kayla: Are you sure?
Steve: Yeah. As a matter of fact, I'll make all the arrangements.
Kayla: No, no, no. I'll do it. I have somewhere special in mind.
Steve: Don't go to a lot of trouble.
Kayla: It's not a lot of trouble. You did so much for me. I want to do this for you.
Billie: I'd have brought you a cake with a file in it, but I figured I'd already caused you enough trouble.
Billie: I knew that Chelsea saw us in bed together, and I should have realized that she would do something stupid. I should have stopped it before it ever got started.
Bo: Hey, what Chelsea did sucks, but it has nothing to do with Lockhart. I didn't lay a finger on that crybaby.
Billie: I know that. But you're still in a lot of trouble, Bo.
Bo: I'll get out of it. Don't I always?
Officer: Sorry to bust up the party. Arraignment time.
Bo: Wish me luck.
Billie: You don’t need luck. You need bail money. Yeah. Did you think I came all the way down here just to see your pretty face?
Bo: [Laughs] Thanks.
John: You knew, huh? It's a very interesting combination -- psychiatrist, psychic. Your patients don’t even have to tell you their problems.
Marlena: I only read certain minds.
John: Must know what's on my mind right now.
Marlena: I do. The answer's no. I'm not staying here.
Marlena: And... I don’t want anything to happen to you, either.
John: You're not kidding about reading minds.
Marlena: We might not be remarried yet, John, but we are one in spirit and in body. And where you go, I go.
John: No point arguing?
Marlena: No point at all.
John: All right.
John: How about some ground rules? No jumping out of the damn plane. No doing anything dangerous, okay?
Marlena: I cross my heart. No sense in trying to talk me out of this.
John: I knew that the second you walked on this aircraft.
Marlena: All righty. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's head for Italy..
Bo: Why can't I keep it in my pants around you? She's lost all faith in me.
Hope: I came to ask for a favor -- please drop the charges against Bo.
Sami: What if E.J. wants the money back?
Lucas: Forget about it. I make enough money for the three of us. Call him back and tell him you quit.
Kate: But if you were serious about bringing Samantha Brady into this company, it will be over my dead body.
