[Monitor beeping]

Kayla: Feels good.

Steve: You still have a little bit of a fever. I'll get you a cold washcloth or something.

Kayla: Your hand feels better. Steve...

Steve: Yeah?

Kayla: Remember our first wedding?

Steve: How could I forget? It was on a boat.

Kayla: You gave me an -- an anchor.

Steve: It was a gold charm.

Kayla: [Chuckles] I put it on a chain. I still have it.

Steve: You need to rest some more. Go back to sleep.

Kayla: You're my anchor, Steve. You always were. You always will be.

Steve: Shh. [Sighs] Man, what am I doing? I can't keep doing this. I can't keep lying to her.

Kate: I know it's early, but I was absolutely starved. I'm glad you could meet me. Now we can catch up a little bit, maybe, hmm?

Billie: Yeah. It's been a while.

Kate: Yes. It has. So, how have things been with you, huh? How are you doing?

Billie: Not great.

Kate: "Not great." Billie, what's wrong?

Billie: Everything. I lost him, Mom. I lost Steve.

Lucas: Here we go.

Sami: You are such a bad influence. I can't believe you brought doughnuts.

Lucas: Doughnuts are okay once in a while. Look at those.

Sami: One doughnut maybe, but you brought, like, eight.

Lucas: So I'll have seven. Don't worry about it. You can have your favorite -- the maple one or the sprinkles. I'll give you the maple.

Sami: So, what are you doing here, Lucas?

Lucas: One of my appointments canceled, and, um, I wanted to see you. I wanted to talk to you about something.

Sami: About what?

Lucas: About yesterday -- what a great time we had.

Sami: Yeah, it was fun, wasn't it? Do you think will's ever gonna forgive me for being too chicken to do the parachute drop?

Lucas: Who cares about being chicken about that parachute? You did the roller coaster. That's a man's coaster. I don't know how you did that.

Sami: Give me a break. My whole life is a roller coaster. But, seriously, think about yesterday. We had a great day, we were having a great dinner, and then -- bang -- out of nowhere, Lexie pours champagne all over me, not like I didn't deserve it.

Lucas: Which you handled like a true star. You didn't fight back at all, did you? You kept your composure. She was the one out of control. That has to make you feel good.

Sami: Imagine me, taking the high road.

Lucas: I was really, really proud of you... and will was, too. That stuff that you told him about us making a fresh start -- I think he really ate it up.

Sami: Yeah, well, I really want to earn his trust, and, um, I know I have to thank you for him giving me another chance, because you are supporting me. Thank you. You didn't have to do that.

Lucas: Yeah, I did. You're his mother.

Dr. Bader: Everything looks real good. So, have you, uh, read the information I gave you about the amniocentesis?

Hope: You said the ultrasound looked good. Do you still recommend it?

Dr. Bader: If it were me, I would. There are certain conditions that can be treated in utero.

Patrick: I don't see why it's necessary. She's in great shape. There's no problem with the ultrasound. Don't do it.

Roman: So, Kayla's conscious? Well, that's good news.

Bo: The doctor says it's pretty much a miracle. It's thanks to Steve talking to her and telling her he loves her.

Roman: He told her that?

Bo: Yeah.

Roman: Does that mean he's got his memory back?

Bo: Apparently so.

John: That's got to be good -- one more thing for Kayla to fight for.

Roman: Well, let's hope so.

Officer: Excuse me.

Roman: Yeah?

Officer: Uh, the commissioner asked for this.

Roman: What is it?

Officer: Contents of Patrick Lockhart's locker.

Roman: Well, I'm not sure why Abe wanted it. Forensics already checked it out, but, yeah, leave it right there.

Officer: His personal items, books, I.D. badge.

Bo: Thanks, man. I think we should take a look at this stuff.

Roman: What are you thinking?

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives.

[Monitor beeping] [Tapping]

Stephanie: Dad.

Steve: Hey, Stephanie.

Stephanie: How's mom? Is she better?

Steve: Yeah. A little bit. She's resting now.

Stephanie: You're sure she's not just unconscious again?

Steve: No, no. She's fine. I was just talking to her.

Stephanie: So you think she's gonna make it?

Steve: Yes, I do.

Stephanie: [Sighs] Thank you, Dad. Thank you for helping her. I knew you could do it. I can't wait for mom to come home so that we can all be together and be a family.

Steve: You got to slow down a little bit, Stephanie. I mean, until the doctor finds the right antidote for her, she's still very sick.

Stephanie: But she's gonna get better, and then you and I will take care of her -- together.

Steve: Sure. But she's gonna need professional care. It's a little early to be talking about bringing her home.

Stephanie: Yeah, but when she does, we're gonna be a family again, right?

Steve: Yeah. We're gonna be a family.

Kate: You didn't eat a thing.

Billie: I'm not hungry.

Kate: All right. Listen, Billie. I want to hear everything that happened with Steve, okay? Now, he's getting better, right?

Billie: Yes. He is getting better. But Kayla is still critical, and he's stuck in that quarantine room with her.

Kate: Oh, my God. The quarantine room in the hospital -- that's not exactly the honeymoon suite at the Ritz, is it?

Billie: Except the last time I was there, I overheard him tell her that he remembered her.

Kate: That's good news, isn't it?

Billie: Yeah, good for Kayla. Bad for me.

Kate: Honey, it's good news for Steve, too.

Billie: I know, Mom. Of course it is. It's great news for Steve, and I wanted him to get his memory back. In fact, I encouraged Kayla to help him remember.

Kate: And now you're afraid that he's not going to feel the same way about you? Is that it?

Billie: Of course he wonít. Why did I let myself fall for this guy? He was just so cute, you know? And he just -- he just told me that he cared about me.

Kate: When did he tell you that?

Billie: When he woke up. We were actually talking about maybe a possible future together, you know?

Kate: Baby, have you talked to him about this?

Billie: [Scoffs]

Kate: Oh, come on. Billie, you -- look, just because he got his memory back doesn't mean he's automatically going to be in love with Kayla. You have to give him a chance.. You have to give him a chance to tell you how he feels.

Billie: I already know how he feels.

Kate: Look at you. You're sitting there, and you're stewing because you're so sure that it's all over.

Billie: I am being realistic.

Kate: Oh, come on. You don't know for sure that he's in love with Kayla. You don't know for sure that he wants to get back with her.

Billie: Yes, I do. I know because I heard him tell her.

Kate: Oh, baby. Well, the only thing you can do now, then, is -- is -- is get control. Be proactive with it.

Billie: How?

Kate: You have to stop waiting for him to end it. You need to end it. Honey, believe me, you can't live your life in limbo this way. It's not good for you. It's not good for anyone. Please, listen to me, just for once -- get on with your life.

Billie: Maybe you're right.

Kate: I am right. I've been there. And when it's time to move on, you got to pack up and move on. You're a smart woman, and you have so much to offer a man, and you have to stop wasting your time on men who don't appreciate you -- Bo, Steve. Believe me, there's plenty more out there.

Billie: Gee, thanks for the pep talk.

Kate: You're my daughter. You're my daughter, and I love you, and I don't want to see you go to pieces. No man is worth that.

Lucas: I just want us all to get along.

Sami: Yeah. Me too. [Knock on door]

Lucas: Sorry.

Sami: E.J.

E.J.: You have not returned any of my calls. What's going on?

Sami: You shouldn't have come here.

E.J.: Why are you being so unfriendly?

Sami: You're sleeping with the enemy, E.J. I don't want to have anything to do with you.

Lucas: That's right. Sami told me. She told me about you and my mother.

E.J.: Well, she's wrong. I don't know where you get your information --

Sami: I got it firsthand. You want to know what I found in your apartment? Only Kate would have her bras monogrammed.

Lucas: Don't even try to deny it. You're scum, man. I've always known that. Now Sami knows it, too, and soon my mom will. In the meanwhile, you can have all your power lunches. You can even scam your shareholders for all I care. But if you lay another finger on my mother, I'm gonna rip that smug look off your face. Now get out of here.

Sami: Goodbye, E.J.

Billie: Hi.

Steve: [Sighs] Hey. Long time, no see.

Billie: Yeah, well, yeah, I've been busy. You know how it is.

Steve: Yeah, I do. You look good.

Billie: Thanks.

Steve: Oh, I forgot all about this.

Billie: Steve, we need to talk.

Steve: I got something for you here. And, uh -- I mean, I can't really give it to you yet 'cause of the glass, but, uh, it's for you.

Billie: Oh. Steve...

Steve: I mean, if you don't like it, I can exchange it.

Billie: It's beautiful. I just can't accept it.

Steve: Why not?

Billie: Well, it just wouldn't be right, considering your -- you got your memory back.

Steve: Who told you that?

Billie: I was here earlier. You didn't see me, but I overhead you telling Kayla that you remembered her -- that you remembered your life with her.

Steve: Billie, listen.

Billie: It's great. It is great. We both knew that this might happen, and I am so happy for you -- for both of you.

Steve: Yeah. My remembering after all this time -- I mean, it's, uh --

Billie: Wow. It's got to be an amazing feeling.

Stephanie: Hi, Billie.

Billie: Hi, Stephanie.

Stephanie: I know you love my dad, and I'm sorry, but he belongs with my mom.

Billie: Yes, he does. I'll see you later.

Steve: All right.

Dr. Bader: You can get dressed now, and why don't you see my secretary about scheduling an appointment for the amnio?

Hope: I will. Thank you.

Dr. Bader: I'll see you soon.

Hope: Okay.

Dr. Bader: Okay.

Hope: Um... would you mind waiting outside while I change?

Patrick: No. Not at all. You want to explain to me what you just did?

Dr. Bader: I'd recommend an amniocentesis for any patient Hope's age. I feel it's in the best interests of both mother and baby.

Patrick: I am worried about what that test can show.

Dr. Bader: It's a tool we use to detect chromosomal problems.

Patrick: I am talking about the paternity of the baby. Look, we both know that Bo is the father, and that test is gonna show that, right?

Dr. Bader: If someone's looking for it, yes, it's a possibility.

Patrick: You can't let that happen. No one can know that baby Lockhart is really Baby Brady. Do you understand me? No one!

Dr. Bader: You really think that I want that to come out? I'd lose everything if my role in this ever became known. When I think of what happened to Lexie Carver...

Patrick: If you're hinting around that you want more money, that's fine. You got it.

Dr. Bader: "In for a penny, in for a pound," I say. I'll accept your offer.

Patrick: Good. But in return, I want you to perform the amniocentesis and I want you to interpret the results yourself. You know what? If you don't, we're going down.

Bo: Anything good on TV?

John: Not even reruns. This could be interesting.

E.J.: Kate, darling. What a pleasant surprise.

Kate: You don't seem happy to see me.

E.J.: Well, you could have returned my phone calls.

Kate: Now you know what it feels like.

E.J.: Oh, I see. You were avoiding me, eh?

Kate: No. I was busy.

E.J.: Doing what?

Kate: Doing things that don't have anything to do with you -- personal matters, business matters, non-E.J. matters. But I'm here now, so why don't we get down to business?

E.J.: So, did you find out why the police are poking into my affairs?

Kate: No. No, I didnít. But like I told you, John Black is asking questions about you.

E.J.: John Black? John Black's not a police officer.

Kate: No, he's not, but he used to be, and he still has close ties to the Salem P.D., and he told me that I should steer clear of you, that you're not to be trusted.

Bo: What the hell is she doing?

E.J.: He doesn't trust me?

John: Just what I expected.

Kate: So, aren't you even the tiniest bit curious?

E.J.: I think you should tell me everything he said.

Sami: Hey! Hey! Hands off! That's my -- oh, this is good.

Lucas: It is, isn't it? You enjoyed that, didn't you -- me sticking it to E.J.?

Sami: I just can't believe he led me on like that. I mean, I thought he really cared about me, and the whole time, he was sleeping with Kate.

Lucas: I still don't understand what you saw in the guy.

Sami: You didn't really?

Lucas: No, I really didnít. Was he good in bed or something?

Bo: John, we got to shut her up. He's gonna know we're onto him.

John: I know.

Bo: You kn--

Kate: John said, "watch that man."

E.J.: When did my name come up?

Kate: We were discussing the accident at the race -- at the Salem Grand Prix.

E.J.: And he just suddenly said, "watch out for E.J. Wells"?

Kate: E.J., he thinks that you're involved in the gloved-hand crimes.

E.J.: Oh, Kate, that's preposterous.

Kate: I told him he was wrong. I told him -- I told him, after all, it was our driver who was injured in the crash, right? Is he wrong?

E.J.: Of course he is.

Kate: Well, John will play very rough if he thinks that you're operating outside the law. You should know that. You should be careful.

E.J.: If he thinks I'm operating outside the law? He's working with Bo Brady, isn't he -- a man who was just kicked out of the police force? If anyone's operating on the wrong side of the law, it's those two.

Kate: That could be true.

E.J.: Well, I certainly really appreciate you finding all this out for me.

Kate: Well, of course I would do that. We're colleagues. I'm sure you would do the same thing for me, right?

E.J.: Mm-hmm. [Cellphone ringing] Excuse me. E.J. Wells.

John: Mr. Wells, this is John Black. Even though we haven't officially met, it seems that we not only have a lot of mutual friends but one business associate in common.

E.J.: Yes. Kate Roberts.

John: And since we're both in the communications game, I thought we should meet, you know, to see what else we might have in common.

E.J.: I'm agreeable. Let me check my calendar.

John: No, that's way too formal for me. I thought we might just hook up for some drinks.

E.J.: When did you have in mind?

John: If you're not busy, I'm heading over to the Penthouse Grill right now.

E.J.: Sure, John. I have an hour or so free. I'll meet you there.

Kate: [Sighs] You're going to meet John?

E.J.: He asked me for a drink. Interesting -- him calling right after we were talking about him. It's quite a coincidence, don't you think?

Kate: I'll say.

E.J.: Well, you, uh, piqued my interest, and he certainly has piqued it a little bit more, so I'm going to meet him.

Kate: Well, it couldn't hurt.

E.J.: No, it couldn't hurt. After all, I have to put people's minds at ease. Come on.

Kate: Stop.

Bo: All right. She has just blown our investigation, and you're going to meet with the guy? What gives?

John: It's all part of the plan, Bo.

Bo: What plan?

John: Kate's gonna help us.

Bo: No way. I don't trust her.

John: You're gonna have to trust her. Believe me, I told her we're in the danger zone here and she's got to steer clear of that guy, but I know Kate. She's gonna help us.

Bo: Damn it, John. She paid off Eve Michaels for that disk. She almost ruined my marriage. I'm not gonna work with her.

John: Try thinking that she's gonna be a lot better as an ally than an enemy.

Bo: And what about this meeting with him?

John: It's just gonna get him out of the apartment so Kate can turn around and do a little snooping. He never would have agreed to meet me at the Penthouse Grill if she hadn't spilled, and now she's got his confidence, and it's going just the way I planned.

Bo: I think this is a bad idea.

John: Yeah? It's happening. Good girl. Now let's just hope this works. I'm gonna get over to the Penthouse Grill. I'm gonna stall E.J. so she can do a little looking around..

Bo: You want me to just sit here?

John: Keep your eye on her. You might want to give her a call if E.J. comes back early. Tell her to jump in his bed.

John: E.J. Wells.

E.J.: Mr. Black.

John: Call me John. Thanks for meeting me on such short notice.

E.J.: It's my pleasure. I'm glad you called.

John: What you drinking?

E.J.: Scotch.

John: Scotch. Whoa. I'll have a beer.

E.J.: So, I hear very good things about you, John.

John: Well, I wish I could say the same about you.

E.J.: So much for the pleasantries.

John: I'm a straight shooter.

E.J.: Well, why don't you tell me what you've heard. We'll see if I can't clear the air.

John: Actually, I stand corrected. The word on you isn't all bad. From what I understand, you're a hell of a race car driver.

E.J.: I see. So I'm strong on talent, weak on character, is that it?

John: Something like that.

E.J.: Hmm. Why don't you ask me any questions you may have?

John: To clear the air?

E.J.: To clear the air.

John: All right. Have you ever had any dealings with the Bradyís?

E.J.: Why would I? I'm a businessman. I'm in business, and they're not, at least none that I know.

John: That's true.

E.J.: I mean, I've met Bo and Roman. I know they work down at the police station. Their father owns that pub, doesn't he?

John: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's Shawn Sr.

E.J.: Yeah. Now, Shawn Douglas I know pretty well. He and Max were rivals of mine in the Salem Grand Prix.

John: Yeah, isn't that where Max almost got killed?

E.J.: Yeah. Terrible. Our own driver was hurt very badly.

John: Yeah. Um, Stephanie Johnson. She's recuperating, but she got banged up pretty bad, didn't she?

E.J.: Thankfully, it looks like she's gonna make a full recovery. I'm, uh, curious, John. Why are you interested in my dealings with the Bradyís?

John: Well, E.J., I'm sure you've heard they've had some bum luck lately.. I just wondered if maybe you knew something about it.

E.J.: You wanted to know if I knew something about it or if I had anything to do with it?

John: I didn't say that. But since you brought it up, did you?

E.J.: Far from wanting to hurt the Bradyís, John, actually, I just recently gave Shawn Brady some employment.

John: Really? I didn't know that.

E.J.: The boy came to me, looking for a job, and I was happy to give him one. He's a damn fine mechanic. I thought that you wanted to meet here, have a nice drink, and talk about Kate Roberts and -- what was it you said? -- Things we have in common.

John: Yeah, yeah. Let's do that.

E.J.: Okay. She's a damn fine woman. A good head on her shoulders.

John: Yeah. But you want to know something? Even the smartest of businesswomen can get taken in from time to time.

E.J.: Is that what you think I'm doing -- taking advantage?

John: I didn't say that.

E.J.: [Chuckles]

John: How about Patrick Lockhart?

E.J.: How about Patrick Lockhart?

John: You know, any dealings with him?

E.J.: I thought you wanted to meet here for a nice, friendly drink, talk about big media. Wasn't that what you said?

John: I guess I got off on the wrong track.

E.J.: I think you got on the right track. I just think you got there a little too quickly.

John: I just don't have your polish, E.J. I certainly hope I didn't offend.

E.J.: No matter. As a matter of fact, though, I have to be leaving you, so if you'll excuse me. Beer's on me.

John: Well, hey, thanks.

E.J.: Take care.

John: Yeah. Nice to meet you... E.J.

[Cellphone rings]

Bo: Brady.

John: He's on his way out.

Bo: Uh-oh.

John: Is Kate still in his apartment?

Bo: Yeah, yeah. She's still in there.

Kate: There has to be something here that will let me know what he may be up to.

Billie: Hope. Hi. How are you?

Hope: Fine.

Billie: Good. Glad to hear it. Listen, about what you walked in on the other day at the pub, nothing happened between Bo and me.

Hope: Don't worry about it.

Billie: Well, I just want you to know that he was just being a good guy. He was letting me cry on his shoulder yet again...because I just found out that Steve remembered Kayla... and I'm happy that he did. I really am. I'm very happy about that. But to be honest with you... I am disappointed that things didn't work out between us.

Hope: I know how much you care about Steve, and if it's any consolation at all to you... you mean a lot to him, too. He told me.

[Monitor beeping]

Stephanie: Dad, what's wrong?

Steve: Nothing.

Stephanie: You feel bad about Billie. You know what? You made the right choice. You've got mom, and she's amazing. Billie -- she'll find somebody, all right? She's got a nice personality, she's cute. It's won't be a problem.

Steve: [Sighs] You're right. Billie's great, you know? She's -- she's great. It just wasn't meant to be.

Stephanie: Mom, you're awake.

Kayla: Hey, baby.

Steve: Hey. [Chuckles] Did you have a nice nap?

Kayla: I was dreaming. I was in the ocean... looking at the stars. It was peaceful. And then I just -- I started to sink, and I was -- I couldn't breathe.

Steve: It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. I'm right here with you. No, no, no, no, no. [Rapid beeping] It's all right. Wait, wait, wait. Come on.

Stephanie: Dad, do something!

Steve: Okay! Okay! The alarm -- the doctor's on his way.

Dr. Myers: What happened?

Steve: She's having trouble breathing.

Dr. Myers: Put on the face mask.

Steve: Come on, Kayla. Come on. Hang in there. Come on.

Dr. Myers: Stand back. Increase her oxygen to 10 liters.

Stephanie: [Crying softly]

Steve: Oh, baby. Oh, come on, baby. I know how scary it is to see your mama like this. It's okay. Hold on, baby. Everything's gonna be okay. You hear me? It's gonna be okay.

Dr. Myers: Your wife's condition has worsened. I'm afraid you and your daughter need to prepare yourselves.

Stephanie: [Sobbing]

Steve: Oh, sweetheart. No. Come here. Come on, baby. I'm right here.

Sami: You think that's the only thing that attracts me to a man -- whether or not he's good in bed?

Lucas: No. But -- oh, nice. That's real slick -- answering a question with a question, then putting me on the spot. You're brilliant. Nice move.

Sami: I wasn't going to answer your question, Lucas, 'cause guess what -- it's none of your business, general.

Lucas: Fine. I don't care. I don't care. It's none of my business. Great.. Sorry I asked, okay?

Sami: I don't know if he's good in bed. I didn't sleep with him.

Lucas: Good. I'm glad.

Sami: I wouldn't sleep with him now if we were marooned together on a desert island. I can't believe that jerk wanted me to choose between Will and him, I mean, as if there's a choice. And then the fact that he's sleeping with Kate. I mean, sorry, but that grosses me out.

Lucas: Please. It makes me sick.

Sami: And my Uncle Bo warned me that E.J. was trouble.

Lucas: You gonna listen to him?

Sami: I think, obviously, he has a point.

Lucas: I think so.

Sami: I should have known it was too good to be true -- that E.J. would actually be interested in me just for me.

Lucas: What do you mean, "too good to be true"? The guy's a moron. He has no idea what he's missing.

Bo: Why so quick?

John: E.J. wasn't very talkative. She's still there?

Bo: Yeah. She's acting like she's got all day. I tried calling her, but it went straight to voice mail.

John: He's gonna be back any second. Come on. Pick up.

Dr. Myers: I wish I had better news for you. Your wife has fluid in her lungs. As you can see, she's experiencing great difficulty breathing.

Steve: Can't you do anything to help her?

Stephanie: What about an antidote? I thought you had experts searching for one.

Dr. Myers: We haven't found one. We're in a race against time, and I'm afraid we're losing.

Stephanie: [Crying] Don't say that.

Steve: Oh, baby. I'm sorry, baby. Shh! It's okay. I'm here.

Dr. Myers: You should notify other family members. She may not recover from this.

Stephanie: [Crying]

Steve: Daddy's here. It's okay.

Kayla: [Wheezing]

Sami: I just can't believe I didn't realize that E.J. must have some ulterior motive for wanting to get involved with me.

Lucas: What's that?

Sami: I wish I knew.

Lucas: Yeah, me too. Whatever it is, it means he's bad news. I'm just glad you didn't get too involved with him. You didn't get in too deep.

Sami: Because you care about me?

Lucas: Yes, because I care about you. That's what I said.

Sami: Well, that's sweet.

Lucas: You're my son's mother.

Sami: Right.

Lucas: And, um, I happen to care about you...a lot. I -- he's really looking forward to that ski camp, huh?

Sami: Yeah. He, um, he can't stop talking about it.

Lucas: Thanksgiving's a week away. He's already packed.

Sami: Yeah. Man, I can't wait, because I could use a change of scenery myself. Remember the last time we went on a class trip with him?

Lucas: Yeah. We almost got killed. We still had a good time, though, right?

Sami: I can't wait to do it again.

Lucas: Neither can I.

Bo: Oh, man. We got trouble. She just ran out of time.

John: Damn.

Mimi: I am worried about Patrick. What if the money he had was stolen? You realize that you're in just as much trouble as he is?

Bo: Eve Michaels as good as named you as her killer.

Steve: I don't know what to do, baby. I don't really remember a damn thing. I don't want to break your heart all over again.

John: Take a look at this.

Marlena: Oh, my gosh. Where did you find that?
