Marlena: Oh, I love you. That kiss, regardless of how wonderful it is, is not gonna make me change my mind. I told you why I need a separation. It's got nothing to do with you.

John: I understand. I'm not gonna pressure you.

Marlena: Good. Thank you.

John: I just...want to show you how much I love you.

Marlena: Oh, I -- I know how much you... I know.

Jennifer: Here you go, Jack.

Jack: Oh. Oh, that looks good.

Jennifer: Good.

Jack: Mmm. Are you gonna join me?

Jennifer: No, no, I'm fine. I was nibbling in the kitchen a little bit.

Jack: It's good. It's good.

Jennifer: Good.

Jack: It's pretty good.

Jennifer: Is that all you're gonna eat?

Jack: Well...I'm just savoring every bite.

Jennifer: Are you feeling okay?

Jack: Jennifer?

Jennifer: What?

Jack: We have to find something else to talk about other than my health for the remainder of my natural life -- not that I don't like all the TLC, but I was thinking maybe you should take Jack Jr. out to the park.

Jennifer: I don't -- first of all, I don't want to take Jack Jr. to the park. It's too hot outside. I'll take him out to the baby pool in a little while. I just want to stay here and spend time with you. [Door unlocking] Oh, that's Frankie. He said he'd be home for lunch. [Gasps] What in the world?

Frankie: For you, beautiful.

Max: [Sighs] Hey, Abby, what are you doing here?

Abby: Waiting for you.

Max: Oh, really? What for?

Abby: I have a favor to ask you.

Max: Sure, what do you need?

Abby: A job.

Shawn D.: So this -- this is it? This is goodbye?

Belle: I can't keep doing what I've been doing. I really never meant to cause so much tension between you and Mimi.

Shawn D.: I know you didn’t.

Belle: I'm really sorry, and I can't keep blaming it on hormones.

Shawn D.: You've got to cut yourself some slack. You're pregnant.

Belle: Anyway, um, my mom and dad came back today.

Shawn D.: Oh, I didn't know they were back.

Belle: My dad's been back, but my mom just got back this morning.

Shawn D.: How are they doing?

Belle: They're good. They're really good. We had a really good talk. They made me realize that you and I can't be together just because I'm having your baby.

Shawn D.: Mimi's my wife, and my life is with her.

Belle: And mine is with Philip. It's just hard. It's really hard to say goodbye, you know? You've been a really big part of my life for a long time. I just never dreamed that it would come to this -- that we would actually have to say goodbye forever.

Shawn D.: Maybe we don't have to.

Marlena: [Sighing]

John: So, are you gonna tell me what you're thinking?

Marlena love you so much. I love being with you like this.

John: Yeah, me too. Europe was a lot of fun, but there's no place like home. Getting back to our real lives --

Marlena: That's it. I'm not sure what my real life is. That's what I've got to focus on right now. I've got to sort that out. John...I won't be any good to anybody until I do that.

John: I don't know about that. I think you did Belle a lot of good when she came over earlier.

Marlena: Oh, I hope so. She was torturing herself with Shawn and has been for two years. She's got to make up her mind what she wants, once and for all, and then we'll stand by her.

John: I always stand by all my women.

Marlena: I know you do. I appreciate that. John, this separation is something I need to do for myself. It's got nothing to do with how much I love you. I've got to find myself.

John: I just don't see why you can't do that with us under the same roof.. Come on, we were separated for so long.

Marlena: You said you wouldn't do this. You said you wouldn't pressure me. I need you to support me.

John: Can't fault a guy for trying, can you? You're right. No pressure. If you need to strike out on your own to work things out for while, I'll just...take at the inn, I guess..

Marlena: Thank you.

Shawn D.: What we have to say goodbye to is our past, not each other.

Belle: I'm not sure what you mean.

Shawn D.: What really gets to Mimi and Philip is the fact that you and I used to have a relationship. If we can convince them that it's over, then you and I -- we could be friends. Mimi and I can be a part of your life.

Belle: Really? I hope so, 'cause you and Mimi are Claire's Godparents, and now we're having a baby, so...

Shawn D.: By accident.

Belle: Right. I'm sorry. Tr nto something more.

Shawn D.: What I hope you finally understand -- and I think that you do -- is that I married Mimi because I love her, not because things didn't work out between the two of us. Now what I have to do is convince Mimi of that. Our past relationship has always been very difficult on her, and now the fact that you and I are having a child together, that makes things even harder.

Belle: Yeah, well, I haven't helped much.

Shawn D.: Neither have I, but we're gonna get through it. You and Philip are gonna get through it. He loves you so much, Belle.

Belle: And I love him. But a part of me is always gonna love you, even though I know there's no future for us.

Shawn D.: There can be, and I have to know that you finally accept that.

Belle: I told you I do.

Shawn D.: Good. 'Cause my heart and soul belongs to Mimi.

Max: You want a job here?

Abby: Look, just for the summer. I'll help out in the office, and Shawn said it was a great idea. I just had to ask you first.

Max: So this is what you've been going to college for -- so you can work in a garage?

Abby: For an internationally known race car driver, who's also in the process of applying for a patent. And I'm majoring in business, you know?

Max: No, I didn't know.

Abby: Well, this would be great experience.

Max: Abby, I don't know if this is the best place for you to work.

Abby: Why not?

Max: Look around you. You can't move one inch without bumping into something that has grease on it. Have you seen my desk? I have a mound of papers in there, and they have grease on them.

Abby: I can change all that. I am really good at organizing, and I'll have this place cleaned up in no time.

Max: I believe you.

Abby: So what do you say?

Max: You're right. Shawn and I might need someone to help out around here.

Abby: Then you'll hire me?

Max: Hold on. What about your dad?

Abby: What about him?

Max: Abby, I know how close the two of you are. And now that he's out of the hospital, don't you want to spend some more time with him before you go off to college?

Abby: Look, I'll still have evenings and weekends, okay? And it's not like he's gonna die.

Max: I didn't mean that. I didn't say that. It's just he has been really sick.

Abby: He's getting better, okay? And it's just a matter of time before things start getting back to normal in our house.

Max: What do you mean by normal?

Abby: You know, my mom and dad back together.

Frankie: It's really good to see you up and around again.

Jack: Well, I know I'm up, but around, I'm not so sure about.

Frankie: You look good.

Jack: Thank you. Thank you. Well, I mean, after getting those drugs, it's nice to know that they're finally starting to work. If I don't go into remission --

Jennifer: Jack, you have to be patient.

Frankie: She's right. It's been a while since you've had any treatment, and it might take some time for the medicine to take effect, you know?

Jack: Patience is not my strong suit. Not that I'm not saying I don't appreciate everything that you did for me. I mean, you helped me find the drug, you got me into the program. You really did it.

Frankie: It was luck, believe me.

Jack: Just take the compliment, please. Just take it. You helped me get into this program. You twisted arms to get me into it, and you gave me a new lease on life. There's no way one person can thank another for that.

Frankie: You're getting better, and that's all the thanks I need, really.. That sandwich looks really good.

Jack: You can have half.

Jennifer: No, I made you one. It's on the counter in the kitchen.

Frankie: Feet, don't fail me now. Thank you. I'll be right back.

Jack: We'll be right here. Heck of a guy.

Jennifer: Yes, he is.

Jack: I'll tell you, if I don't make it --

Jennifer: Jack, please don't talk that way.

Jack: If I don't make it, we both know that Frankie's gonna make you one heck of a husband.

Jennifer: I want you to have positive thoughts. I want you to think about getting stronger, Jack. All right? And maybe when you're feeling better, we can take Jack Jr. to the aquarium.

Jack: The aquarium? I thought we were persona non grata there, never darken that door again.

Jennifer: What? [Gasps] Oh, I almost forgot.

Jack: Oh, that would be a good thing. Keep forgetting. Never mind. I didn't mention it.

Jennifer: When Abigail wanted to feed the seals her popsicle. Do you remember? You remember.

Jack: Yes. "The seals are supposed to have a popsicle." You said, "you cannot do that." And she wouldn't listen to you, so she started going over into the moat.

Jennifer: So then you climbed over the iron gate and your pants got stuck on the top. Do you remember?

Jack: Yes, I remember. It was the last wedgie I remember. "Sealing" my doom, if you will.

Jennifer: But you got her.

Jack: I did get her.

[Dialing]

John: Joelle? John Black. Do me a favor and call the Salem Inn and book a suite for me, starting tonight. I don't know. Indefinitely. No, just me. Dr. Evans will be staying here at the penthouse. Yeah, thanks.

Marlena: [Sighs]

Roman: Feels good to be back, huh?

Max: Listen, Abby, I'm really glad to hear that your dad's doing better, but that doesn't necessarily mean that things are gonna go back to the way they were.

Abby: Meaning you're hoping that your brother will still stay with my mom.

Max: Frankie has loved her his whole life, Abby. And now they fell back in love again when your father was... away. Okay, so, yeah, I hope they work things out.

Abby: Even when you knew that my mom has always loved my dad?

Max: Look, obviously, we don't know how this is gonna turn out, so it's not our call.

Abby: I know. The three of them will have to figure it out.

Max: Right. Right. So, uh, anyway, if you really mean it and you're willing to work hard and aren't afraid to get a little grease on your hands from time to time, then you got yourself a job.

Abby: I'm hired?

Max: Welcome aboard. Uh...[Chuckles]

Abby: So, when do I start?

Max: Uh, whenever you're ready.

Abby: What about right now? I can tackle that pile of paperwork you had on your desk.

Max: Actually, first, take a look at my appointment book, and, if you can, can you make something out of that?

Abby: Yeah, sure.

Max: All right. I feel like I missed something today, like an appointment with someone. I don't know.

Abby: E.J. Wells?

Max: Oh, that's it. How did you know that?

Abby: Well, I'd like to tell you that I have ESP., but he came by earlier.

Max: Oh, man, I completely forgot about that. I'd better give him a call.. I'm gonna give him a call.

Abby: No, no, no. I can do it. I'll just reschedule.

Max: Are you sure you're okay with that? I mean, he's probably pretty ticked.

Abby: He didn't seem too upset. I can handle it.

Max: Okay. Thanks. And apologize for me, okay?

Abby: No problem.

Belle: Mimi and I have always been best friends, and I haven't really been much of a best friend to her lately. I really wish I could take back some of the things that I've said and done to her. But all I can do is apologize and hope that she'll forgive me.

Shawn D.: I'm sure she will. You two have been through a lot together.

Belle: Mimi and I used to tell each other every single thing that was going on in our lives. I mean, we would talk on the phone for hours after spending, like, all day at school together.

Shawn D.: Yeah, I remember.

Belle: And I guess she was sort of jealous of me because my family had money and hers didn’t. And she was right. I had an easier life than she did. But I think what she was most jealous of was the fact that you were my boyfriend. She loved you even then. She always said that she wasn't really interested in you, but I think she just didn't want to stand in my way because she knew how I felt about you.

Shawn D.: And how I felt about you.

Belle: You cared about Mimi, too.

Shawn D.: Of course I did. I just wish I would have known to what extent....how much she cared about me.

Belle: How could we both have been so clueless? Do you remember when we went to Paris for Greta's coronation? And Mimi finally admitted that she'd never been kissed, and you just thought it was so wrong that we were in such a romantic place and she hadn't been kissed, so you volunteered.

Shawn D.: Yeah, well, it wasn't exactly a hardship.

Belle: When you kissed her, I thought she was gonna faint. And I thought I was being such a good sport. I just wanted Mimi to be happy. And I thought that you and I were gonna be together forever, so... it just -- it never occurred to me that someday Mimi might come between us.

Shawn D.: She never did. She didn’t.

Belle: And now I'm jealous of her.

Shawn D.: And now we all know what that feels like.

Belle: Meaning?

Shawn D.: Meaning when I got away from Jan and came back home and found that you and Philip had hooked up -- you think that wasn't a shock? I didn't think I'd ever get over it.

Belle: But you did.

Shawn D.: What choice did I have? I had to pick up the pieces and move on, and I got very lucky. I'm happily married, and I'm building a life together with Mimi. I'm not saying these things to hurt you.

Belle: I know. You just want me to face reality, and I am. It's really good for me to hear this finality in your voice. I wish I could say it made things easier, but... anyway, listen, I have something to give you before I go. Don't look so worried. It's something you gave me a long time ago.

Shawn D.: Where did this come from?

We will return for the second half of "Days of Our Lives" in just a moment.

Jack: The security guard said, "I'm going to arrest you on seal assault -- assaulting the seal."

Frankie: What's so funny?

Jennifer: We were just thinking about our trip to the aquarium with Abby..

Frankie: Something about a seal and Abby.

Jack: And the security guard said I was assaulting the seal, and it was a trifecta. I embarrassed everybody -- Jennifer, Abigail, the seal, the security guard, all in one blow.

[Pager beeping]

Frankie: Whoa. You know what? I have to go.

Jack: Go?

Frankie: Yeah, it's Max. He wanted me to stop by the shop, and I do have to head to the office.

Jack: Well, that was a short lunch break.

Frankie: Well, duty calls, right?

Jennifer: Well, thank you for my flowers.

Frankie: My pleasure. I'll see you later.

Jack: Later. We'll save the sandwich for you.

Frankie: Wrap that up.

Jack: I will.

Jennifer: I will.

Jack: Heck of a guy. Just like that security guard.

Jennifer: No lemon meringue pie unless you finish this sandwich.

Jack: You mean your Aunt Maggie's?

Jennifer: Aunt Maggie's. She brought you one.

Jack: No! I'm eating it.

Jennifer: Take it.

Jack: But I need some help.

Jennifer: I think you'll be just fine. I'll hold your napkin.

Jack: You hold it, and I'll eat it.

Abby: Now, this is how it's supposed to be.

Marlena: Oh, it's so good to see you.

Roman: You have been missed.

Marlena: How did you know I was here?

Roman: Well, I was doing some police work here at the hospital, and I saw you down in the cafeteria talking to the administrator. When did you get back?

Marlena: This morning. John came back earlier. I stayed in New York for some seminars.

Roman: Well, I cannot believe you're already back to work.

Marlena: Well, I've been gone for so long now, I thought I'd better get to work. You know, the seminars are wonderful, and I knew I'd learn a lot about psychiatry, but I had no idea how much I would learn about myself.

Roman: Tell me more.

Marlena: You have time?

Roman: You bet I do.

Marlena: Better sit yourself down. The seminar issues, and the speakers were wonderful. They were all very good, and one was especially good. It was a talk about physical and verbal abuse -- how it affects not just the victim, but the family, the children, as well. It made me look at what I've been through with Alex and how I'd survived it. So, now what I want to do is I would like to use that experience that I have to help other women. I thought I would start a self-empowerment group here at the hospital.

Roman: Wow. Doc, that's great, because I can tell you from my work at the P.D., this is gonna be a huge public service. I mean, there is such an incredible need for something like this, and I think it is a very brave and very wonderful thing to do.

Marlena: I'm not sure it's so brave, but it's part of my healing. Oh, enough about me. Tell me about you.

Roman: Well, there's not much to tell. I guess you do know that Carrie and Lucas got married.

Marlena: I do. I heard she had to hurry up the wedding, and, well, we understood. We would like to have been there, though.

Roman: Yeah, she would have liked that. Get this -- she's not pregnant after all.

Marlena: What?

Roman: Yeah, she got a false positive test.

Marlena: Oh, my gosh.

Roman: And truth be known, just between you and me, I don't think she was really ready to walk down the aisle with Lucas. I just hope to hell things work out for them.

Marlena: You think she still has some feelings for Austin, don't you?

Roman: Well, yeah, I think we all never really get over our first love, but Austin is engaged to Sami.

Marlena: And then there's Belle.

Roman: Yeah, so I guess you did hear about the in vitro mix-up.

Marlena: She came by to tell John and me about it.

Roman: Thank God her parents are back, 'cause I'm sure you two will help her get through it.

Marlena: Yep.

Roman: Hey, hey, hey. What is it? Something wrong?

Marlena: No, no, no. It's... John and I are separating.

Philip: Hey.

Mimi: Hey.

Philip: Wow, you look great. You know what it is? You look happy.

Mimi: Well, something must be going on if I look happy, right? Um, yeah, I actually decided to stop being a victim and take charge of my life.

Philip: Is that about Shawn and Belle, I imagine?

Mimi: Mostly, yeah. It also involves you. Shawn and I decided to talk to a lawyer again about custody arrangements.

Philip: Yeah, we all need to do that.

Mimi: But this goes further than what we talked about before. I want to make sure our children are protected.

Philip: Okay. Protected from what?

Mimi: From us.

Shawn D.: This is the Claddagh ring I gave you.

Belle: Mm-hmm.

Shawn D.: But you gave it back to me.

Belle: I know.

Shawn D.: So then how'd you get it?

Belle: Okay, this is embarrassing, but when you and Jan were living together at the loft, I was at your house one day, and I saw it on the table, and I took it.

Shawn D.: You just took it 'cause you thought I was gonna give it to her?

Belle: I don't know. I guess so. That ring meant so much to me. I remember what you told me about it -- how your Grandma Caroline said it was an old Irish tradition and that it symbolized friendship and trust and love.

Shawn D.: It's been in the family for generations.

Belle: I know. I'm sorry. I guess I just wanted to hold on to it. You know -- two hands clasping a heart. I guess I was just clinging to anything that gave me hope that you and I might find our way back to each other. I wanted us to hold on to each other like that and never let go.

Shawn D.: That's what I wanted, too, when I gave it to you.

Belle: Well, now I think Mimi should have it.

Shawn D.: Well, I -- I appreciate that. I really do. Actually, I wanted to give it to her, I just didn't know where I put it. This is really great of you.

Belle: No. What I have been doing lately has been so not great.

Shawn D.: I just want you to be happy. That's all I've ever wanted, okay?

Belle: I know. I have to get home to my family.

Shawn D.: Don't go yet.

Philip: So why do we have to protect our kids from ourselves?

Mimi: Well, it's not just our kids I want to protect. It's you and me, too.

Philip: I think I know where you're going with that.

Mimi: I'm sorry if I sound like a jealous witch, but I don't want Shawn hanging around Belle every free second because of this baby they're having.

Philip: I would like to think it wouldn't come to that, but I also think you and I both know better. So, what, you want to work out some sort of legal arrangement now?

Mimi: Yeah.

Philip: [Sighs] I don't like that it's come to this. We've always been so close. There's never been any problems with trust.

Mimi: We all know this is the smart thing to do, legally. It's like a prenup. I mean, you hope it doesn't come to that, but just in case.

Philip: Right.

Mimi: So, are you still thinking of suing Dr. Jaynes and the hospital?

Philip: Yeah. My dad's attorneys are working on it right now.

Mimi: And?

Philip: Look, the thing is, I'm starting to think it wasn't an accident.

Mimi: What?

Philip: Yeah. I was just telling Shawn about this last night. I think maybe Dr. Jaynes wasn't responsible at all. I'm afraid somebody did this to us on purpose.

Marlena: Wow. A little out of the blue, huh?

Roman: Yeah, out of the blue? I'd say so. I mean, you and John just got back. You've been traveling around Europe all this time on this romantic getaway.

Marlena: I know. It was wonderful. It was magical. And we're more in love now than we ever were before.

Roman: All right, then, Doc, look, I don't get it. Why are you separating?

Marlena: You know how some people say they need space? It's that sort of thing. After all I went through, I feel like I need to find myself, realize who I am. Not just John's wife.

Roman: So this is just temporary.

Marlena: Oh, I hope so.

Roman: Okay, well, I guess whatever you need to do, I'm sure John will understand. You have been through a hell of a lot.

Marlena: And with all I've been through, it's always been you or John that I've relied on to rescue me. Not that I'm not grateful. I am. I mean, you saved my life in the castle, and John has been so supportive of everything. I've hurt him so deeply, and he's been right there for me.

Roman: Doc, none of that was your fault.

Marlena: Well, I don't know about that, but you've both been very good to me.

Roman: Well, I'm glad John is so supportive, because, knowing you like I do and hearing the determination in your voice to get your life back on track and doing it your own way, I just want to tell you this -- there's not one doubt in my mind that you're gonna succeed.

Marlena: [Chuckles] Oh, that means so much to me.

Frankie: Hey, I got your page. I'm sorry I'm late, man.

Max: No problem, no problem.

Frankie: I have no excuses. I've just got a lot on my mind.

Max: Join the club. I missed a couple appointments today, and hopefully that's gonna change now.

Frankie: Uh-huh, okay, so what's the secret?

Max: Well, Shawn and I actually just hired Abby as a part-time assistant..

Frankie: Really?

Max: Yeah, she needed the work, we needed the help.

Frankie: No, I think that's awesome. I mean, it might help take her mind off of Jack.

Max: Yeah, she said he's doing a lot better now that you found that experimental drug and all.

Frankie: He is. He's definitely improving. Yep.

Max: So, how are you doing in all of this? It can't be easy having Jack living with you and Jen.

Frankie: You know, hey, look, we're all dealing with it.

Max: You and Jack still getting along?

Frankie: Absolutely. You know how I feel about him. I think he's great. I want him to go into remission. I want him to beat this thing.

Max: Even though he's still Jen's husband and all.

Frankie: Especially because he's Jen's husband. Max, she couldn't handle losing him again, and I don't want to see her suffer anymore.

Max: So, what if he gets better, huh? Where does that leave you?

Frankie: I don't know. I'm just dealing with it one day at a time.

Max: Frankie --

Frankie: If you're asking me -- what am I gonna do if he should go into remission? I don't know, but I love her, and I don't want to lose her.

Abby: Oh, this is great -- just like it used to be.

Jack: Well, not exactly like it used to be, but --

Abby: No, dad, there is no buts, okay? You're here, you're safe, you're getting better. Our life is finally getting back to normal. Oh, and, hey, I have some news. I got a job for the rest of the summer.

Jennifer: That's so good, baby.

Abby: Yeah, I decided to stay out of your way and let nature take its course, so I'm gonna work for Max and Shawn.

Jennifer: Oh, at the garage?

Abby: Yep, as their assistant.

Jennifer: Oh, what are you gonna do?

Abby: Just office stuff, taking care of the bills, ordering parts, whatever they need. But I'm gonna go tell Chelsea my good news, so I will see you two later.

Jennifer: Okay. I'm proud of you, honey.

Abby: Thank you. Bye, Dad.

Jennifer: Let me bring your dish in the kitchen.

Jack: No, no, no, I got to work on this, too, before...

Roman: [Laughs] Do you know how good it is to see you like this? I mean, taking charge of your life, getting back to work. I can see that old spark back in your eyes..

Marlena: Well, the seminar was good for me. It gave me a sense of purpose that I really needed. So get used to this new me 'cause I have a whole new outlook on life. [Giggles]

Max: Before I forget, here's the contract I wanted you to look at.

Frankie: Okay.

Max: Yeah, yeah. So, about you and Jennifer, um...there was a point where you were willing to just up and leave, and now you have this change of heart, right?

Frankie: Max, as long as Jack is sick, things are the way they are. I have to deal with it, okay?

Max: Yeah, but what if he goes into remission?

Frankie: I don't know! I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Jennifer: I'M...I'm gonna go get your pie.

Mimi: Oh, my God. I -- I don't know why we never even thought of this before. I guess someone could have switched the embryos on purpose. But the only people that might be happy about this -- you're not saying --

Philip: No, I don't think it was Belle. I don't think it was Shawn.

Mimi: Look, okay, I could see if someone had a grudge against one of us, but to do something to destroy all of our lives?

Philip: I know, but the more and more the attorneys dig into this, the more it looks like Dr. Jaynes did not make a mistake at the clinic. Somebody's got it in for us. I just don't know who.

Shawn D.: Just before you go, I wanted to say thank you.

Belle: For what?

Shawn D.: Just for being a part of my life. And I'm glad we had this talk.

Belle: Me too. You're a wonderful person, and we will always be connected because of what we shared and because of this baby that we're having, but I also know that we can only be friends. Nothing more.

Shawn D.: Thanks. This is the only way we can move on with our lives.

Belle: Goodbye, Shawn.

Shawn D.: Goodbye..

Hope: It's time for me to move on with my life and start focusing on taking care of myself and this baby -- our baby.

Bo: Hope had me served with a summons to divorce court.

Kayla: It's not over yet, Bo.

Bo: Damn right it's not.

Chelsea: I'm not interrupting anything, am I?

Austin: In 24 hours, we'll be husband and wife.

Sami: Finally.
