Max: Who would do something like this?
Stephanie: You have to ask?
Max: Chelsea? I'm so sorry, Stephanie. I'm sorry.
Abby: How could you do that, Chelsea? Please, just go in there and wipe the lipstick off before Max and Stephanie see it. They're gonna know it was you. It was immature. It was --
Chelsea: It was stupid. You're right. I don't know what came over me. Look, Abby, you've been a really good friend. Thank you. Let's go erase it. You see that? I don't care if she's my cousin, Abby. I told you that she had a thing for him. I told you that. God. She's gonna be so sorry that she ever freakin' messed with me.
Sami: Listen, E.J... I guess you probably see me as a nice neighbor, a girl who probably flirts too much. But I want you to understand... I really am wicked.
Sami: Yeah, yeah, wicked. I barely scratched the surface earlier when I was telling you all the things that I did to Carrie, Lucas, and Austin. They don't even know the latest thing I did. I kept two people apart, people who love each other and would probably be together right now if it weren't for me, and for the fact that...I don't want to be alone.
E.J.: I don't understand why you feel that way -- alone. A woman like you will never be alone.
Sami: I don't want to settle, and I certainly don't want to end up with someone like me. I just dreamed of having a man love me totally and completely. And that's how I loved -- that's how I love Austin.
E.J.: Are you sure?
Sami: What do you mean? Of course I'm sure. I wouldn't have done what I did if I wasn't sure.
E.J.: I believe your exact words were, "I don't want to be alone."
Sami: I love Austin. I have since I was a teenager. And every man, except him, was just...a substitute.
E.J.: What about Lucas?
Sami: Would you stop asking questions?
E.J.: I'm only asking questions 'cause you keep avoiding the answers.
Si: Well, that's what I'm famous for. The bottom line, E.J., is that if I do what you want me to do, if I tell Austin the truth, he will never forgive me and I will lose him forever.
E.J.: I have an idea. Why don't you tell me? Pretend I'm Austin. Tell me exactly what this heinous deed is that you've done.
Sami: No. No, E.J., I am not going to tell you. I can't lose you, too. You're the only friend I have left.
Austin: It's addressed to Sami.
Lucas: Hey! Hey, what the hell do you think you're doing?! Wait a minute! Wait a minute! Wait a minute!
Austin: What's going on out here, Lucas?
Lucas: Somebody was hanging around outside your apartment.
Austin: It was probably the same person who put this underneath the door..
Caroline: Brady Pub.
Caroline: Kayla, what's wrong? Is it Steve? Did something happen?
Kayla: [Sniffles] He's not Steve, Mom. He's Nick. And Nick doesn't want me. I already lost him once. I can't believe I'm losing him again.
Steve: Rosie, start me off with a cold one.
Della: How about a hot one instead?
Steve: Cut it out, Della.
Della: Well, I guess I'm supposed to be glad you're back, even if you are a grouch. I am, you know -- glad. You had me worried for a while. I thought you were buying blondie's act.
Steve: Hey, it was no act. She was my wife. We had a life together. I have a daughter.
Della: Best medicine ever invented, baby. Cures the blues every time. I ought to know. I had a few myself while you were gone.
Steve: What would you know about it?
Della: Maybe you were married to her once, but you're with me now, Nick.... just the way we both like it.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives.
E.J.: Look, if I am your friend, a real friend, let me assure you, I'm not about to abandon you...no matter what dastardly deed you've done.
Sami: Don't be charming. This is serious.
E.J.: Okay, I'll stop being charming. No charm. Confide in me. It's gonna make you feel better. I think you'll find things aren't as bad as it seems.
Sami: No, I have experience with this. I know it's bad, okay?
E.J.: I'm starting to get a little bit...steamed with you, young lady, okay? If we are supposed to be friends, then you need to share this with me.
Sami: I don't know.
E.J.: Look, I just want to help you.
Sami: Okay. [Sighs] Where do I start?
E.J.: Well, I don't know. How about we pick somewhere at random? Um...the beginning. We can start at the beginning.
Sami: Cut it out.
E.J.: Look, just tell me how all these things came to pass.
Sami: Okay, it started when I realized that Austin was still in love with Carrie.
E.J.: This is when he was living with you.
Sami: We were roommates. And I really felt something between us. I thought it could be more than that, but Austin wanted to keep things platonic. And so I tried to change his mind. I did everything shy of walk around the apartment naked. [Sighs] It was pretty frustrating.
E.J.: Oh, I can imagine it was.
Sami: Anyway, I thought Carrie was in Israel with Mike Horton -- that's the guy she left Austin for -- and so I thought I had a real chance with him. But then --
E.J.: She wasn't in Israel?
Sami: Right, she was back in The States. Meanwhile back in Salem, Austin discovered this little company that he wanted to take over called Highstyle.
E.J.: I'm jumping to a conclusion here, but I take it Austin didn't know that Highstyle was Carrie's company.
Sami: Neither did I. Not at first.
E.J.: I'm guessing that when you found out, you didn't exactly enlighten Austin.
Lucas: So, the note was just slipped under the door?
Lucas: Bust it open. Let's read it.
Austin: No, can't do that, man. It's private. It's addressed to Sami.
Lucas: All right, I guess. I'm just not too thrilled about someone stalking the halls like that. I like my wife to feel safe. I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll call the super in the morning, have him check it out, all right? Here's your aspirin. How's your head? Is it feeling any better?
Lucas: Yeah? I'll get you some water, then you can take those, okay, get a good night's sleep tonight.
Carrie: Thanks. Austin, we can’t.
Austin: We are not done talking.
Carrie: We have to be. This isn't about us. Lucas loves me so much.
Austin: So do I, and you love me. We both know that.
Abby: Okay, so, Stephanie's beautiful. She's smart. She's mature. Gee, I wonder what Max sees in her.
Chelsea: Abby, can you just shut up, please? Do you honestly think that anything you're saying right now is making me feel better?
Abby: I am trying to wake you up, Chelsea. If you keep on acting stupid, you're gonna lose Max to Stephanie and it's gonna be your fault.
Chelsea: Tell me why I should even listen to you. You're the one that kept telling me they're just friends.
Abby: I also said this would happen if you played games. Why do you do it, Chelsea? If you want to get back together with Max, you're gonna have to do it the right way. You're gonna have to start by saying you're sorry.
Chelsea: I'm sorry for this. I'm sorry for that. That's all I ever say anymore. I'm sorry for being alive. God, you know what? I bet you Hope wishes that it had been me under the wheels of my dad's car, rather than Zack.
Abby: Leave Hope out of this. She lost her son. And besides, she is a good person, just like Stephanie is a good person. And if you don't start acting like one, you're not gonna end up alone -- you're too gorgeous -- but you will not have Max. He has values.
Chelsea: If I admit that you're right, will you please stop lecturing me?
Abby: Yes. You can do it, Chelsea.
Max: I'm so sorry, Stephanie.
Stephanie: It's so childish, I don't even know why I let it get to me.
Max: Because she gets to you. She gets to me.
Stephanie: Yeah, but in a good way.
Max: Not tonight. Not tonight. I -- I feel like this is all my fault.
Stephanie: No, don't apologize for Chelsea. My little cousin's got to take responsibility for her own actions sometime.
Chelsea: You're right. That's actually why I came back, to tell you how bad I feel for what I did. I owe you both an apology.
Caroline: Sweetheart, just tell me what happened. Where are you?
Kayla: I'm in Cincinnati.
Caroline: Yes, but where?
Kayla: I'm in the parking lot of a bar that Nick hangs out in. Oh, Mom, we went into that bar, and everybody knows him as Nick. It was just so surreal. [Sniffles] You know, I really was feeling hopeful. I felt like, you know, we were getting closer. I mean, I think he's attracted to me. But he doesn't know me. I'm just some woman that he met when he was trying to help Jack.
Caroline: No, dear. That's not true. I've seen you two together, and I've seen him with Stephanie. There's a strong connection. I'm sure he feels it just as much as you do.
Kayla: But I think this might be the first time that you're wrong. He said that he belongs here, that his life is here in this town with these people, that, that's all he remembers, and [Sighs] He told me just to forget about him and move on with my life and...go to Africa and work.
Caroline: Well, darling, I wish I could just hug you right now.
Kayla: You know, I really -- I really thought that he was, you know, kind of getting to know me again, and that maybe if he didn't remember his past, he'd want to maybe have a future with me. But he doesn’t.
Steve: Della, Della, Della. I've got a lot on my mind. I'm not in the partying mood.
Steve: That's it. That's the way it is. You just take it or leave it.
Della: Oh, you know I'll take it...anytime. The way you been talking, major depressing, even for an edgy guy like you. What do you have to be so down about anyway? You've got me crazy about you. And I can think of more than one man that'd like to be in your cowboy boots.
Steve: I said...I'm not in the mood.
Della: Damn it. She got to you, didn't she?
E.J.: So, what happened when Austin found out he'd taken over Carrie's company?
Sami: Exactly as I had predicted. Carrie didn't want to have anything to do with Austin. She was furious with him. But Austin still wasn't interested in being with me.
E.J.: Why not?
Sami: Because he was still in love with Carrie, and he wanted to fight for her. But Lucas saw his opportunity to move in, 'cause he's wanted to be with Carrie, too. Of course, who hasn't? So Lucas and Carrie got closer together, and yet Austin still wouldn't give me a chance.
E.J.: How very frustrating.
Sami: To say the least. So now Austin wanted to be with Carrie, Lucas wanted to be with Carrie, and no one wanted to be with me. But then Carrie changed her mind and decided that she wanted Austin back. So I realized it was do or die.
E.J.: So what did you do, or who died?
Sami: I didn't kill anyone.
E.J.: See? Told you. It's not that bad.
Sami: No, it's still pretty bad.
E.J.: So I'm assuming this is why you're blackmailing Lexie Carver. You needed her help to keep Austin and Carrie apart, right?
Lucas: Here you go. Take a couple of these and you'll get a great night's sleep. I can guarantee that. Wait, you --
Carrie: Thanks for being so sweet to me.
Lucas: Honey, you're my wife. I love taking care of you. It's what I live for, especially now.
Carrie: Austin knows about the baby, that I was never pregnant.
Lucas: He knows about everything?
Carrie: Yeah, I told him that I probably can never conceive a child.
Austin: I'm really sorry... for both of you. I know how much you wanted to have a baby.
Lucas: Well, you know, the dream doesn't have to die, you know? A little time goes by, and we'll talk about adopting. It's actually a blessing in disguise, really. I mean, we kind of got married because you were pregnant, or we thought you were pregnant, and now that you're not, we can just, you know, spend our time getting to know each other, getting close, doing fun things together, and traveling. And I know everything that I love doing, I'll love even more with you by my side. I'm gonna call the super. I don't think I'll wait till morning. I'll call him and see if he can find out what's going on in that hallway.
Austin: It's gonna be okay.
Carrie: I don't want this, hurting someone as wonderful as Lucas. I can't do it. I can’t. I won’t.
Lucas: I, uh -- [Clears throat]
Chelsea: I was stupid, dumb, immature.
Max: Keep going.
Chelsea: No, he's right. I picked a really inappropriate way to get back at you.
Max: Get back at me for what?
Chelsea: You left me at Dune.
Max: I didn't think you'd notice. You had all these guys hanging all over you.
Chelsea: Yeah, well, I noticed. But I really am sorry about the lipstick..
Stephanie: You didn't write something inappropriate about Max on the locker. You wrote about me.
Chelsea: Yeah, well, you left with him, so...
Stephanie: So you think I'm trying to move in on your guy?
Stephanie: There, doesn't that feel better, the truth? What a relief, huh?
Chelsea: Are you making fun of me right now?
Stephanie: No, I'm telling you there's nothing to worry about. I'm not after Max. We're just friends. Are you hearing me, Chelsea? Just friends, that's all.
Stephanie: Okay, you believe me, or, okay, I'll say whatever I have to, to get this over with?
Chelsea: No, I believe you.
Chelsea: So, um...do you forgive me about the lipstick?
Stephanie: I'll leave you two alone for a while. How's that?
Chelsea: So, um...what about you? Do you forgive me?
Kayla: He doesn't remember me, Mom. He gave it some time. He doesn't remember, so he gave up.
Caroline: Well, you're a Brady, and Brady’s don't give up. You show him a way so he knows he needs you.
Kayla: I knew there was a reason I called you, 'cause you always get right to the point. [Laughs] I lost him once. And I may never know why or how he was taken from me. But you're right. I am not gonna lose him again.
Steve: You know, I'd tell you something if I thought you'd get it.
Della: Well, I'm not a dummy. I picked you, didn't I?
Steve: Ah, forget it.
Della: Come on, this is my life, too, you know.
Steve: [Laughs] Man, that's classic. I don't know anything about my life.
Della: Yes, you do, and I do, too.
Steve: Come here. You know...I never meant for any of this to happen. I went to Salem as a favor to my dying brother.
Della: Your partner in DNA?
Steve: Right. So we go, and I know there's this wife, but she's supposedly in L.A. somewhere, so I figure I could just breeze into town, drop my brother off with his people, breeze back out again.
Della: But you see her and don't feel like leaving just yet.
Della: And she tries to get you to remember your life together, introduces you to the kid.
Steve: Yeah. She's a nice girl. Real nice. She was happy to see me.
Della: I can see how that would be tough. So, blondie pulls out the big guns. Bet she got cozy with you, too, I'm sure.
Steve: Yeah, a bit.
Della: Yeah. Okay. So...do you remember?
Steve: No. Complete blank.
Della: I feel for you. I do. But did you ever think this might be a sign?
Steve: A sign of what?
Della: That your life with her is over. But you and me -- we got a good thing going on, Nick. If you were supposed to be with that woman from Salem, you'd remember. It's that simple.
[Country music plays] They're playing our song, baby. Come on, honey. You know you want to.
When one touch could feel that way nothing can change my love for you no one could love me like you do baby, you're unbelievable
Sami: I never should have told you everything. Now you're gonna hate me just like everyone else in this town.
E.J.: Give me a chance, Samantha. Come on, you told me this much. You might as well go all the way. I understand you're blackmailing Lexie into what? Concocting a story to keep Austin and Carrie apart, right?
E.J.: Okay, I just don't have any idea what that could be.
Sami: Lexie told Carrie that if she and Austin had children together, they would have severe birth defects. I know, I know, okay? It's a stupid, horrible story. [Sighs] But Carrie still had the choice. She could have...chosen either guy. She wanted to marry Lucas and have the perfect family with him, which is what she got. And now I'm marrying Austin... as least I was. When he finds out what I did, he won't want anything to do with me. E.J... why aren't you saying anything? God, I'm such an idiot. This is exactly why I hate telling the truth because now you hate me, too, just like I knew you would.
Lucas: We got some bad news today, you know? News neither of us wanted. But it's gonna work out. It's gonna be okay. Don't worry about it. We love each other. That's all we need. As long as we have love, we can get through anything. Couples have problems, right? That's part of it. We're just getting all of our problems out of the way early. Now it'll be smooth sailing from here on out, right?
Carrie: [Chuckles] Sorry, I'm such a mess.
Lucas: You're not a mess. You're beautiful. Stop saying that.
Carrie: I think I just need to wash my face with some cold water.
Lucas: Yeah, yeah, go ahead. You'll feel a lot better after you do that.
Austin: Sami's got to be wondering what's going on. I'm gonna...head up to the roof, okay?
Lucas: Yeah, sure. There is something I'd like to settle between us before you go, though.
Stephanie: Abby, what are you doing out here? Waiting for Chelsea? I didn't beat her up if that's what you're worrying about.
Abby: Look, I told her what she did was wrong.
Abby: I know.
Stephanie: Why are the two of you even friends? You don't seem to have too much in common.
Abby: You know, I wonder about that myself sometimes... like tonight. This may sound lame, but underneath everything, Chelsea's a really good person.
Stephanie: You sound like Max.
Abby: I don't know. Maybe I wish I had the guts to go for it like Chelsea does.
Stephanie: I don't know. If you're talking about the way she's handling things with Max, I just don't know, Abby.
Abby: Maybe you're right.
Stephanie: I kind of feel sorry for her. She's obviously so needy, and it's got to be tough suddenly finding out you've got two parents you didn't know about, and what happened with little Zack. I mean, she's gonna carry around that guilt the rest of her life. On the other hand...I just found out my dad isn't dead like I thought, and, hey, so did you. And we're not running around, writing horrible things on lockers with lipstick. I think if Chelsea gets herself into trouble and people get mad at her, it's probably what she deserves.
Abby: Well, I can't really say that, being her friend and all. Can I ask what happened with Max?
Stephanie: Max and Chelsea? I don't know.
Abby: She really does care about him, you know.
Stephanie: Could have fooled me the way she was acting at Dune.
Abby: Look, I told her making Max jealous is not the way to go, but she cares about him, and I know she's really sorry.
Chelsea: You don't forgive me?
Max: Give me one good reason why I should.
Chelsea: 'Cause I said I was sorry.
Max: God, you're such a baby.
Chelsea: What? I'm sorry, I made a mistake.
Max: You make a lot of mistakes, Chelsea. Acting like a tramp at Dune when you and I are supposed to be exclusive, not cool.
Chelsea: I'm sorry, but you were with Stephanie. I may have gotten a little bit jealous.
Max: I was with you. I was just talking with Stephanie.
Chelsea: Look, you guys have this relationship that I don't understand, and personally, it freaks me out. It scares me.
Max: Are you for real or are you playing games with me? Stephanie is a cool girl, but I asked you to be my girlfriend. And then you do stuff like this, and it makes me think..
Chelsea: I'm sorry I'm a screw-up.
Max: So cut it out. Trust me, can you do that?
Chelsea: I want to.
Max: Chelsea, you can. You need to trust that I love you.
Chelsea: You love me, even after everything?
Baby, you're unbelievable it's so beautiful your skin against my skin
Della: If you'd have all the quarters you spent playing this song in the last couple of years, I'd be dancing with a rich man.
Steve: Yeah, I don't know why. I've always had a thing for this tune.
Della: And I got a thing for you, baby.
We've got a forever kind of love you'll always be the one baby, you're unbelievable
Max: Uh, I'm gonna give Chelsea a ride home. Is it okay if we work on my car a little later?
Stephanie: No problem. So?
Stephanie: She got to you, huh?
Max: When Chelsea freaks, she does some really dumb stuff, but she's gonna be better. I think she is. She just needed some hand-holding and...
Chelsea: So, um, thank you.
Abby: You're thanking me? That's a change.
Chelsea: Yeah, well, if it hadn't been for you making me go in there and apologize and --
Abby: So Max forgave you?
Chelsea: Huh? Oh, yeah. He said that he loved me.
Abby: You see? All you have to do is be your best self.
Chelsea: Okay, Jennifer. God, I'm just kidding. Thank you. You're a good friend. I'm lucky to have you. Listen, max is gonna give me a ride home, so are you gonna be okay by yourself?
Abby: Yeah, I always get myself around places. Have fun.
Chelsea: I will. We will. I'll give you a call.
Abby: Usually Chelsea digs herself so deep into a hole that she can't get out. But not this time. I'm just glad everything worked out for her and Max.
Stephanie: Max is a good guy. I just hope Chelsea doesn't hurt him too badly.
Abby: Look, she really does like him.
Stephanie: Well, the only reason tonight ended happily ever after is because Max can't resist her. But one day, she's gonna go too far, and they'll be history. It's predictable.
E.J.: I don't hate you.
Sami: How can you say that? What I did was horrible. I am completely selfish, totally spiteful, and malicious.
E.J.: Passionate. You'll do anything for love. I find that remarkable. There are not many people who will fight to the death for what they love. I think...I'm almost in awe of you.
Sami: E.J., I wish everyone could be as understanding as you are.
E.J.: I'm practical, that's all. Carrie's pregnant with Lucas' child. Austin couldn't sweep her off her feet, even if he wanted to. If the man has any brains, he'll forgive you for your trespasses and look forward to a happy life with you. I would.
Sami: You're right. Austin can't get back together with Carrie. Maybe that will make it hurt a little less. Maybe he won't leave me at all.
E.J.: Are you telling me you have finally rethought telling the truth about all this?
Carrie: [Sighs] [Sighs] How can I break Lucas' heart?
Lucas: You know, when I came in here and saw you holding Carrie, when she was in your arms like that [Sighs] Well, it amazed me. It really did. It moved me, because....you're acting so unselfish. And after everything that's happened, you know, she's going through a lot, and I am as well, so...I think it's great that you're being there for us.
Austin: You're my brother. And there's nothing I wouldn't do for Carrie.
Lucas: Thanks, man. You're the best.
Austin: I just want you both to be happy.
Lucas: It's killing me, seeing her like this, you know. I don't know. Maybe she...thinks that she's not a woman anymore.
Austin: Hey, man, this is terrible for you, you know, finding out that Carrie's not pregnant with your child.
It's so incredible to find the love of your life it's so powerful...
Steve: Hit me. ...To stop the hands of time
Della: What's the idea, leaving me on the dance floor by myself?
Steve: I told you, I'm not in the mood.
Della: That kiss felt like the right mood to me.
Steve: Well, it's not, okay? Something's changed. I don't know what the hell's going on with me.
Della: I thought that song would get rid of your bad mood. It's your favorite.
Steve: Well, not anymore. Not here, okay?
Della: Damn you. You're thinking about that woman.
Steve: You are not in my head. You don't know what the hell I'm thinking about.
Della: The hell I don’t.
Steve: Back off, Della! I can't breathe!
Della: Nick. Damn you. Nick!
Kayla: When's the next flight to Salem? Can I get out of this town tonight? [Engine turns over]
Austin: It's addressed to you.
Lucas: It's way past time we open that.
Steve: If somebody can stage my death and erase my memory, that somebody's got a lot of power. So I have to assume that they're coming after me again.
Jack: I've tried. I really have. I think it's time for you to let me go.
