E.J.: Now, when are you going to tell Austin about this?
Sami: I don't know. Soon.
E.J.: Soon. Okay, soon like the moment he walks through the door?
Sami: Why? Are you afraid I'm gonna chicken out?
E.J.: No, I'm afraid that if you don't tell him, then this guy who's threatening you is gonna beat you to the punch, Sami.
E.J.: Sami, look at me. When I said I was afraid for your safety, I wasn't joking. This person is threatening you. They've been stalking you.
Sami: I know, but that doesn't make it any easier for me to tell Austin the truth.
E.J.: Let me tell you something. When I first came to Salem, I had so many people say how much Sami Brady had changed. And I had you tell me how much you wanted to change.. Well, is that true?
Sami: Of course it is.
E.J.: Then just do it.
Sami: It's not that easy. I mean, what if I do -- I tell Austin the truth and I end up losing everything? Will it really be worth it?
E.J.: Sami, give the guy a chance. You never know. You might just be pleasantly
Sami: I know how forgiving Austin is, okay? And I know how understanding he can be, but I think that I have pushed my luck just a little bit too far this time.
E.J.: What you need to do is you need to take back control of your own life instead of leaving it in the hands of somebody who does not have your best interest at heart. If you don't take control of it, somebody else is going to destroy it, Sami.
Sami: Do you think I don't want control of my life? God, of course I do! I haven't had control of everything since I put this whole thing in motion. I have dreamed of being with Austin since I was a teenager, and now we're engaged and all my dreams are coming true. How -- how am I supposed to tell him the truth when I know that it's going to destroy everything I have worked so hard for?
Austin: You heard what I said to you last night at the hospital.
Austin: The nurse said you were sedated. How come you didn't tell me you were awake?
Carrie: Well, I wasn't totally.
Austin: Well, I mean, how do you know you're not confused about what you heard?
Carrie: We both know that I'm not confused, Austin. I heard you say that you still love me and that you always will.
Austin: Yeah, I did. Is that news to you?
Carrie: I just thought that we had dealt with this before I married Lucas. You said that you were ready to move on and be with Sami, that we'd both moved on. But that's not what it sounded like last night.
Austin: Last night made me face some major fears. And one of them is what my future would be like without you in it. And I thought that I dealt with that years ago when we got divorced, you moved to Israel. But I guess a big part of me still held out hope for us. I'm glad that we're still friends. For a long time, it was just too damn hard. It still is hard. I mean, look how close you are. You know, I have to be reminded every single day of how close we came... yes, I love you. And, yes, I always will. Hey, you know, I'm not gonna ask you to say anything. I know what we have to do.
Chelsea: This is a nice little impromptu breakfast. I was surprised you called me.
Max: Why? I thought I made it clear that I loved hanging out with you.
Chelsea: Yeah, I had a good time last night. I almost had a great time.
Chelsea: Can I ask you a question?
Chelsea: Do you think that I'm a tramp?
Max: Why would you even ask something like that?
Chelsea: Do you honestly think that I would go around carrying a 12-pack of condoms in my purse?
Max: I'm sorry I wasn't prepared, okay? I just thought it was something I needed to ask. I wanted to be with you just as much as you wanted to be with me.
Chelsea: Did you?
Chelsea: You know, I thought that you were this bad boy who liked to live life in the fast lane, literally, yet there's always some excuse why we don't -- why we shouldn't have sex.
Max: Did you want to get pregnant last night?
Max: So then it wasn't an excuse.
Chelsea: Thanks for looking out for me.
Max: That's what I'm here for. Look, I actually am glad that we waited. You know, we spent half the night fighting. I... you know, we talked about being together. I just -- I thought we should do it right.
Chelsea: Sounds good to me.
Max: I mean, did you really mean you didn't want to see anybody else?
Chelsea: Yeah. What, did you think I just changed my mind overnight?
Max: No, I just -- I hope you really meant what you said.
Belle: I'm sorry. Maybe I can't help the way I feel, but I should be able to help what I do about it. I just -- I cannot believe what I said to Philip earlier -- or didn't say.
Shawn D.: Well, you'll have the chance to clear things up when he gets back.
Belle: Yeah, if he gets back. I have to go.
Shawn D.: He's gonna come back. Belle, he has to.
Shawn D.: Hi. Did you talk with Lauren?
Mimi: Yeah, she's doing fine. She was exactly on time for her blood work.. She's being a perfect surrogate.
Shawn D.: Did you tell her about the mix-up?
Mimi: The mix-up? Yeah, of course. She'll be having a different husband check on her now. She had to be informed.
Shawn D.: How'd she take it?
Mimi: Fine. A baby's a baby, right?
Shawn D.: Yeah, well, we know that's not true, right?
Mimi: Well, we should at least have her meet Philip.
Shawn D.: Yeah, I think that's a good idea. I'm sorry I wasn't there when you were talking to her.
Mimi: No, it's fine. You had to be with your mom. I just talked to Patrick a few minutes ago.
Shawn D.: So you know that my mother's having his baby.
Mimi: How do you feel about that? I know you said you didn't want your dad to be the father.
Shawn D.: Yes, I said that. And I meant that. I wish things were different, but I don't want -- I don't want my dad to hurt my mom again.
Mimi: How is she doing?
Shawn D.: How is she doing? Well, she's having a hard time. My parents have been together for a very long time, and no matter how much she is hurting, part of her is always gonna love him.
Mimi: That's what I told Patrick. It's just like you and Belle -- together for a long time. But now you two are having a baby together. [Sighs]
Belle: I'm really sorry, Mimi. I hope you don't feel the same way that Philip does -- that I'm, like, happy about this.
Mimi: I know it's not your fault, but --
Belle: Thank you. God, 'cause Philip is already so angry, he just stormed out of the loft, slammed the door. I am so worried about what he might do.
Mimi: Well, do you know where Philip went?
Belle: No, he just walked out, slammed the door.
Mimi: Because you said you didn't want to end the pregnancy?
Belle: Yeah, which I guess is really what it all comes down to. He questioned my motives, and -- you know, you all have always known I'm pro-life.
Mimi: Yeah, I know.
Belle: So, you're not gonna ask your surrogate to --
Mimi: No. God, no. But you know what? That's really none of your business, Belle.
Belle: Why would you say that? Okay, we are all tied together by these babies.
Mimi: You know, you really seem happy about that, too.
Belle: Mimi? What?
Mimi: It's different for Philip and me. We're having a baby together, but we were never in love. The two of you share a big romantic history together. You were very much in love with each other. Belle, look me in the eyes and tell me you're not thrilled about having a-a baby with Shawn. How can this not bring you even closer? How can you resist the feelings that I know you still have?
Shawn D.: Can I talk to you in private?
Belle: Yeah, I think that's a really good idea. I'm gonna go make some phone calls to try and find my husband.
Stephanie: Oh, my God. It's Max's car. Philip, can you hear me? I'm at the Salem South Raceway. There's been a wreck. Just one car. He ran into the wall and flipped. The driver's unconscious. He's not moving. I can't tell if he's breathing. Uh, yes, there's smoke, but I don't see any flames. The track officials aren't here today. It's an off day. He's not supposed to be driving. It's not even his car. I don't know what he was trying to do. Okay, please hurry. Philip, listen to me. Help is coming. If you can hear me, don't try to move. We're gonna get you out of here, okay? Damn!
Max: So, are you ready to settle down? No more flasks of alcohol. No more getting arrested and picking up strange guys and getting your face plastered all over the internet.
Chelsea: But when we go out, we can still have fun, can't we?
Max: Sure. I always have fun when I hang out with you. Mm-hmm. Okay, look, I'm gonna make a pit stop, and I'll be right back.
Chelsea: Okay. [Door closes] [Cellphone rings] Stephanie. Bye.
Stephanie: Damn it, Max. Why don't you answer me?
Sami: I don't think I can tell Austin the truth. I mean, maybe I don't have to. Maybe this person doesn't know the truth either and they're just trying to scare me, trying to set me up. I thought I was gonna get caught before, and I didn’t.
E.J.: Sami... hey. Have you ever really gotten away with anything scot-free?
Sami: Of course not. But maybe this will be the right time. Maybe it'll happen for me this time. It has to. I mean, it is a miracle that I got Austin to propose to me, to fall in love with me. And maybe the way everything fell into place is a sign that this was meant to be.
E.J.: If it's meant to be, then trust it.
Sami: I can’t. E.J., you don't understand. I have never gotten anything I wanted ever without making it happen. I can't tell Austin the truth. I know I'll lose him. But if I wait and I hope, then there's a chance. All right, a really small chance, but still, there is a chance that things could work out and that he'll never find out the truth. And then we can have our relationship. We can be together and happy and I'll be good. I have been good, by the way. This whole thing is so freakin' complicated. You know, it's like the only easy, simple, nice relationship I have with anyone is with you.
E.J.: Well, um...that's very kind of you, Sami, and I'm really flattered.. But I'm also quite sure that's not true.
Sami: E.J., It is true. You have been a real friend to me, and I don't have friends, so thank you for being there for me. Thank you for not judging me.
E.J.: I really care about you, Sami, and I really do want to help you if you'll let me.
Sami: I'm starting to feel like your latest charity case.
E.J.: No. I think you might just be my first new best friend in Salem.
Sami: I like that. I'm best friends with prince charming. Well, I will definitely promise to be there for you when you need help. And thank you for helping me now 'cause I know there's a million other things you could be doing right now.
E.J.: No, there's not. Listen, why don't we focus a little bit? It seems to me that there can't be that many people on our suspects list. I mean, there can't be that many people who are familiar with your secret, right?
Sami: Yeah, just Lexie and Tek. And I know Tek threatens me. And Lexie -- she was here. I mean, she was prepared to tell everyone the truth and then she didn't, and I don't know why.
E.J.: You know, that doesn't quite feel right to me. I mean, who would want to make you suffer like this?
Sami: Well, Tony DiMera, but he's in jail. He can't hurt my family anymore. And then there was Alex North. He knew everything, but John took care of him. And Kate. Kate has every reason in the world to want to come between me and Austin. But she...
E.J.: All right, we'll back up a little bit here. Who knows all the information about you that's being included in these notes?
Sami: Just Lexie and Tek and Abe -- Abe Carver.
E.J.: Abe, Lexie's husband Abe.
Sami: Right. He was at the Brady Pub, and he got some anonymous note to go to this certain motel where Lexie and Tek were together.
E.J.: They were in bed together? Is that what you're saying?
Sami: Yeah, he caught them. And Lexie accused me of having written the note, but of course I didn’t.
E.J.: Well, do you not think that the person who wrote that note could be the same person who wrote this note?
Sami: You're right. I mean, but why? I mean, who?
E.J.: I don't know, Sami, but if we can find out who knows of Lexie's affair and who knows of your secret, we're really getting somewhere.
Sami: Me! I am the only person who knows all of this information. Don't you understand? I mean, this is so scary!
E.J.: Well, I'm sorry, but you're right to be scared 'cause this person means business. I don't think they're about to stop. That is why it is so important that you have to get out in front of the situation, Sami. You really need to take control of it before it starts to destroy your life.
Carrie: What should we do?
Austin: Nothing. I never meant for you to hear what you heard last night.. You know, I'm not here to break up your marriage, Carrie. You and Lucas -- you're gonna have a baby together. I would never do that.
Carrie: No, I know that you wouldn't do that.
Austin: All right. Do you remember, up on the roof, the night before the wedding, what I said to you, when you were gonna marry Lucas, that I would respect that? I'm not gonna come between you.
Carrie: I remember, Austin.
Austin: Marriage vows -- I mean, they're for life. You're gonna have his baby. What I said last night was not to pressure you because --
Carrie: Because you thought that I couldn't hear you.
Austin: I was speaking from the heart because I was grateful that you were alive.
Carrie: I'm grateful, too. If you hadn't come when you did, my baby and I could have died. I owe you so much.
Austin: I just thank God that you're all right.
Carrie: I have to be honest with you, Austin.
Austin: Go ahead.
Carrie: What you're saying now -- what we've both been saying all along.... the thing is, I heard you say that you hoped that I would come back to you.
Max: Hey. You ready to go?
Chelsea: Yeah, let's hit it.
Max: What are these?
Max: From the district court community services program.
Chelsea: I forgot about those.
Max: You forgot about these?
Max: They were in your purse. How do you not see these every time you open it up? What are they?
Chelsea: I don't know. I haven't opened them. See? They're probably about some boring work program I'm supposed to sign up for.
Max: Oh, and that's why you didn't open them, huh?
Chelsea: Yeah, what a pain in the butt.
Max: Chelsea, this is important. Do you think if you just ignore them, they're gonna go away?
Chelsea: I don't know.
Max: You have 200 hours of community service in return for not going to jail. And if you don't do this boring work, that's where you're gonna end up for contempt of court..
Chelsea: Do you really think I could be in trouble?
Max: Yeah, Chelsea, you could be in some huge trouble here.
Belle: I still can't get ahold of Philip.
Shawn D.: Well, he said he wanted to be alone, right? I'm not surprised that he's not answering his phone.
Belle: I get that he went to go blow off some steam, but I'm getting really worried here. I don't know. I just -- I have a really bad feeling.
Stephanie: Hang in there, Philip. Just hang in there. The ambulance is here. He's still unconscious. He has a pulse, but it's fast and --
Paramedic: Do you know the victim?
Stephanie: It's Philip Kiriakis. I can't get him out.
Paramedic: Fire and rescue are right behind us.
Stephanie: Oh, please let them get here in time.
Austin: [Sighs] I do dream about having a life with you. But you chose Lucas, and I will never understand that.
Carrie: I don't think that I could give you an answer that would satisfy you. Austin, I've hurt you so much.
Austin: What are you talking about?
Carrie: I don't know how you forgave me for being unfaithful to you in our marriage.
Austin: I love you.
Carrie: Marrying you was the best thing that I ever did. And I threw it all away.
Austin: Wait, wait, wait. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Okay, we have both made mistakes -- big ones. How many times and for how long did I put Sami's needs in front of yours? I will never forgive myself for that.
Carrie: She's my sister. You know, she was going to death row. I should have been more understanding. I should have been more patient.
Austin: How much crap did Sami put you through? It was the last straw. I was unfair to you.
Carrie: When I think about all the things that I let come between us... Sami's right about me. I am a spoiled brat. I always am trying to get everything to be -- go my own way..
Austin: That's not true.
Carrie: It is true. Look at me. I'm trying to be all grown-up here. But.... what I decided, Austin, is that you deserve someone who will treat you better than I have.
Carrie: You do.
Austin: Stop. Wait, wait, wait, wait. What are you saying? Is this about me and you or me and Sami?
Carrie: What are you talking about?
Austin: Because nobody seems to get why I'm with Sami. And after everything she's been -- that she's put you and me through --
Carrie: Hey, I understand why you're with Sami. I mean, I love her, too, Austin.
Austin: Thank you. Thank you for understanding. Damn it. Why couldn't we have this conversation months ago? Well, it's too late for us, you know? I mean, you're married to Lucas. You're gonna have his baby, and I'm not gonna break up a family.
Carrie: I know that you wouldn’t. You were just being honest with me about your feelings last night.
Austin: Yeah, I was. And they will never change.
Carrie: [Sighs] I don't know how to say this, and it's none of my business, except for the fact that I care so much about you and Sami. Considering your feelings, do you really think it's a good idea for you to marry my sister if you're still in love with me?
Sami: How could I tell Austin the truth? He's not with Carrie right now because of me. And now Carrie is pregnant with Lucas' child. They're married. E.J., I'm a horrible person, and I have done terrible things. The truth is, I don't deserve to be with Austin.
E.J.: Sami... let me tell you something. You may not be able to change the past, but you can change the future. And the knowledge of that gives you a tremendous amount of power. I know you think that nobody understands how you feel right now, but believe me, you're not the only person who's done things in their life that they regret.
Sami: I appreciate you saying that, E.J., but you have no idea the kinds of things that I have done. This was my last chance with Austin. And believe me, when he finds out what I have done, he will turn his back on me, just like Lucas did.
E.J.: I doubt that very much, Sami. You're a beautiful, intelligent, fascinating young woman. You have a tremendous amount going for you. If I had the opportunity to be with a woman like you, I wouldn't hesitate for a second.
Max: Thank God we opened this when we did.
Chelsea: Uh, can I see it, please? It is my letter.
Max: Apparently, you've already had one letter telling you that you need to go show up for community service, which you blew off. Now you have less than a week to comply. Otherwise you'll be held in contempt of court.
Chelsea: Yeah, thank you. I can read.
Chelsea: It's a good thing I didn't miss this deadline.
Chelsea: Thanks to you.
Max: Chelsea, look, I care about you. You realize you can go to jail if you do not get your stuff together.
Chelsea: I know. I'll change.
Chelsea: You know, being with you might just save my life.
Paramedic: You need to step back so we can get the scene secured.
Stephanie: Okay, you should know he has a prosthetic leg.
Paramedic: Thank you.
Stephanie: He's trying to become the first amputee to race on the circuit. Philip, you've made it this far. We're all pulling for you. You can do this.
Paramedic: Who's Belle?
Stephanie: It's his wife. I should call her. Oh, my God. What's her number?
Belle: Philip? Philip! No messages. And he's not here. Where is he?
Shawn D.: I'm sure it's fine. He probably just went for a drive to the lake or went for a hike to clear his head.
Mimi: Try not to freak out, Belle. He's a grown-up. He can take care of himself.
Belle: I'm worried about my husband. Is that not okay with you?
Shawn D.: Relax. Relax. She's stressed. It probably isn't helping. [Cellphone rings] Hello?
Stephanie: Shawn, it's Stephanie.
Shawn D.: Who?
Stephanie: Your cousin Stephanie. I need to reach Belle Kiriakis. She's your neighbor, right? Do you know if she's home? It's an emergency.
Shawn D.: Yeah, yeah, she's right here. Just hang on one second. It's Stephanie, my cousin. She asked to speak to you.
Belle: This is Belle. Oh, my God. I knew it. I knew something was wrong.
Shawn D.: Wait, what happened?
Belle: It's Philip. He's been in a terrible accident.
E.J.: True love understands, and true love forgives. And if you and Austin are really meant to be together, he will forgive you.
Sami: That's what I'm afraid of. What if -- what if we aren't really meant to be together?
E.J.: If you're not, is it really the end of the world? Look, Sami, I... I don't think that Austin is your one true love, is he? Look... I don't know what your secret is, Sami. I just know that you have one and that somehow it involves Lucas and Carrie and Austin.
Sami: Carrie and Austin were married once. And Lucas and I were together and... then he gave up on me.
E.J.: So, you settled for the next best thing?
Sami: It's not like being with Austin is settling.
E.J.: You're not sure that he really loves you, are you?
Sami: What if Austin thinks being with me is settling?
E.J.: Well, then he'd be crazy, Sami.
Sami: You don't understand. Carrie is always everyone's first choice. She is the perfect sister. And it's not like she hasn't done stupid things herself, but I always get blamed for it. Of course, I guess I deserve that.
E.J.: Just think about the history that you have with Lucas and Carrie and Austin. These people -- obviously, they still care about you, regardless of whatever you've done. They haven't turned their backs on you.
Sami: E.J., if I tell Austin the truth, one of two things will happen. Either he will find it in his heart to forgive me and then we'll be happy together, or he will turn his back on me and he will hate me and I will spend the rest of my life alone and miserable.
E.J.: I don't think you'll ever be alone, sweetie.
Belle: Philip! No!
Shawn D.: No, Belle. Don’t. Don’t. Don’t. Stop. Stop. Don’t.
Stephanie: The firefighters said you have to stand back here, okay? Philip's gonna be okay, Belle. His vitals are stable. They just need to get him out of there. Okay? Okay?
Belle: I smell smoke!
Stephanie: No. Hey. Hey, there's a lot of fuel on the track. He was driving with a full tank.
Belle: But I don’t understand what he was doing driving in the first place. What if this car explodes?!
Stephanie: They're gonna try to disable the car's ignition system so that doesn't happen.
Belle: What if they Don’t get him out in time?
Mimi: What's going on?
Shawn D.: I had to tell the firefighters. I built that engine to be fast.. The tradeoff is, in a crash like this, safety.
Mimi: Are you saying that it could blow up?
Shawn D.: No, no, no. I hope not.
Stephanie: I've been trying to get ahold of Max. He's not answering his phone, so I'm gonna try and go find him. He needs to know his car is a total loss.
Shawn D.: Okay, all right, good luck. You all right? I Don’t know why Philip would just come and borrow Max's car like this, okay? Max was gonna let him drive, but he wasn't ready, not yet.
Belle: He was just -- he was so upset. What if he did this on purpose?
Shawn D.: No, no. He wouldn't have done this on purpose. He loves you and Claire too much. He has too much to live for.
Belle: I have to go see him.
Shawn D.: No, Belle -- Belle, stop!
Belle: But I need to --
Shawn D.: Don't put yourself and the baby at risk, okay -- our baby.
Austin: I don’t know. I don’t know how everything got so messed up, but we got to go on and keep living our lives, right? I really do wish you all the happiness in the world with your marriage and your future family with Lucas.
Carrie: And I do wish the same for you and Sami. I truly do want you to be happy together.
Austin: I'm sure we will be. You know, I... I really do love Sami. It's just, I mean, it's different. It's not like you. She played a big part in my life for a long time. She's really special to me. When I left her last time, I said I'd never see her again, never come back, but she's grown up a lot, and you know, well, here I am. I will not regret it again.
Sami: I appreciate you saying that, E.J., but I don’t think anyone is gonna want to have anything to do with me after Austin calls it quits with me. I'll probably have to move, change my name. I'll join the witness protection program or something.
E.J.: Sami, come on. You really don’t think it's gonna be that bad..
Sami: Name one guy in this entire town who will want to have anything to do with me after this.
E.J.: Well, um, I'm probably not the right person to ask. I've only been in town for five minutes. Anyway, listen, we need to get back to the more immediate problem here. We need to find out who's writing these threatening notes, and we need to work out a way that you can tell Austin the truth now.
Sami: You're right. I just have to quit stalling and tell him the truth.
E.J.: Good for you. You're not gonna regret this. Listen, I should be going. I'll give you -- you guys can talk.
Sami: Oh, well, thank you very much, E.J., for coming over. And I appreciate all of your help. You've been a real friend.
E.J.: Give me a call.
Austin: You look surprised to see me.
Sami: Oh, yeah, well, I thought you said you had an errand.
Austin: Well, I didn't get to it. Lucas and Carrie's door was open, and I peeked in to see the damage, got into talking.
Sami: How are they?
Austin: Fine. Are you okay?
Sami: I have to talk to you about something.
Stephanie: Max, I've been trying to reach you. Your cellphone's off.
Max: No -- no, it's not. Okay, yes, it is.
Stephanie: It rang a few times and then went to voice mail.
Max: I didn't even hear it -- did you turn off my phone --
Stephanie: Never mind. We've wasted enough time already.
Max: Why? What happened?
Stephanie: Philip Kiriakis was in a bad car accident.
Max: Oh, my God. Is he okay?
Stephanie: It looks like he's gonna pull through.
Max: Where was he?
Stephanie: At the racetrack.
Max: The racetrack?! What was he doing there?
Stephanie: About 200 miles per hour.
Stephanie: At least that's what the rescue squad said when they pulled him out of your car.
Max: My car?!
Stephanie: I'm sorry, Max. It was totaled. There's nothing left of it.
Max: Okay, the hell with the car. Is Philip okay?
Chelsea: Stephanie, does Belle know?
Stephanie: Yeah, she's out there right now with Shawn and Mimi.
Max: I got to get down there. Let's go.
Belle: This is all my fault. If Philip doesn't fight -- if he doesn't make it --
Shawn D.: Belle, just give them a minute, you can tell Philip exactly how you feel.
Belle: How I feel. I feel guilty.
Shawn D.: There's nothing you can do for Philip right now, but look -- I just lost my brother in an accident. I don’t want to lose you or our baby, okay? I love you.
Belle: The fact that you and I are having a baby together completely freaked him out.
Sami: I think tonight is gonna be my last dinner with him ever.
Carrie: Lexie wants us to go to her office right away. My test results are back.
Stephanie: She might be afraid we're not just working.
Chelsea: When I'm done with Max, he's not even gonna remember her name.
