Bo: Doctor's here.
Hope: I must have been daydreaming.
Dr. Bader: Hope, your test results are in. And I think we can determine now who the baby's father is.
Austin: You were awfully quiet on the way home. You okay?
Sami: Yeah, I think I had too much wine. It's making me tired.
Austin: Yeah. Yeah, I know how you feel. I'm tired, too. I think we should go to bed and...snuggle.
Sami: Sounds good to me.
Austin: [Sighs] Did you have a good time tonight?
Sami: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it was really nice. You know, I thought the ceremony was nice, and I'm really happy for Carrie and Lucas. And the reception was great, too.
Austin: Well, except E.J. wanting us to postpone our big day because he....has special needs.
Sami: It's okay.
Austin: I'm sorry about that. I know you're disappointed.
Sami: I am, but I understand how important he is to our business, and it'll just give us more time to plan our wedding.
Austin: I'm glad you see it that way. Let's go to bed. [Cellphone beeping] Oh, sorry. Who the hell is...texting me at this hour? Oh, man. It's the accountant.
Sami: What does he want?
Austin: I have to give him a spreadsheet A.S.A.P. My laptop's in the car.. I'll be right back.
Sami: Okay. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. What am I gonna do? What if the truth comes out?
E.J.: The truth about what?
Billie: Oh, jeez, I'm sorry. Austin.
Austin: What are you doing here? What are you doing in this neighborhood?
Billie: [Panting] Just thought I'd go for a run to clear my head.
Austin: So what's wrong?
Billie: Nothing, I'm fine.
Austin: No, you're not.
Billie: Yeah, no, really. I'm as fine as I'll ever be. What's up with you? How are you doing? Must not have been easy seeing Carrie walk down the aisle with Lucas.
Austin: I don't know. I'm happy for them, I guess. I mean, she...you know, chose to be with him, marry him, just like I chose to marry Sami.
Billie: Yeah. Just one little problem.
Billie: You still love Carrie, don't you?
Lucas: Mmm. Nice.
Carrie: You're not gonna believe it, but I'm absolutely starving.
Lucas: Oh, you're hungry? What a surprise. You're like clockwork, every time with you. Well, I guess we did work up quite an appetite. And we didn't eat anything at the wedding, 'cause you can't really eat at your own wedding. That's why I had Maggie drop us off a little late-night snack from Chez Rouge.
Carrie: That's kind of what I was hinting at.
Lucas: Is that what you're hinting at? I'll get the food, and then we'll....refuel and maybe pick up where we left off?
Carrie: Sounds perfect.
Lucas: I shall return...with the food.
Lucas: For you.
Carrie: Thank you.
Lucas: Oh, man. Phew.
Lucas: I'm a little dizzy.
Lucas: Hey, now. There's a peek for you.
Carrie: [Laughing] Yes.
Carrie: Wow. How are you doing in there, sweetheart? [Sighs] I'm so lucky to have you and your daddy in my life. [Breathing shallowly]
Belle: Okay, so, the sitter's is still giving Claire a bath.
Philip: Yeah, she said she could stick around if we need a hand.
Belle: No, I'm fine.
Philip: I know you're fine, but you are supposed to be taking it easy.
Belle: I am. And I was kind of hoping that the three of us could stay home for a quiet evening as a family.
Belle: You know, pretty soon we're gonna be four. Can you believe that?
Philip: [Chuckles] I know.
Belle: I am so happy with you. Things are really, really working out for us and for Shawn and Mimi. I'm so happy for them. It's really amazing that you got them a surrogate and everything you've done for them. [Telephone rings]
Philip: Hold on. Hello?
Betty: Mr. Kiriakis?
Betty: This is Betty Grainger calling. I'm a nurse at University Hospital.
Philip: Oh, yeah. What can I do for you?
Betty: I'm sorry to bother you so late, but Dr. Jaynes needs you and your wife to come back to the hospital.
Philip: You mean tonight?
Betty: Yes. I'm sorry, Mr. Kiriakis, but I'm afraid we might have a slight problem.
Philip: We'll be right there. Thank you.
Belle: Who was that? Hello? What's wrong?
Philip: Um...that was one of the nurses at the hospital.
Philip: And I guess Dr. Jaynes needs us to go back there right away.
Philip: I don't know.
Belle: Oh, well, you know, we could have just forgotten to sign some release forms or something.
Philip: It's not that. She said there was some kind of problem.
Mimi: Okay, Dr. Jaynes, what kind of problem do we have here?
Dr. Jaynes: Well, I really don't know how to tell you this, but...there may have been a mix-up with the embryo transfer.
Shawn D.: A mix-up? What do you mean? What kind of mix-up?
Dr. Jaynes: Well, there's really no easy way to tell you this, Mimi, but....your surrogate may have been implanted with the wrong embryo.
Mimi: [Chuckles] What?
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives.
Bo: How long has she been pregnant?
Dr. Bader: I'd like to have a word alone with Hope before I reveal that information.
Bo: It's okay. I'm her husband.
Hope: Bo, Bo, it's okay. Please. You know, I think maybe...I'd rather hear the news alone. Okay, um...let's hear it. Who's the father of my baby?
Patrick: Did the blood test come back?
Bo: Before we hear who the father is...there's something you need to know.
Dr. Jaynes: We don't know how it happened, but somehow the petri dishes wound up on the wrong shelves after the embryos were implanted.
Mimi: Well, does that matter? You said after the procedure.
Dr. Jaynes: Well, the problem is that we don't know for sure when the mix-up occurred. My team and the lab are looking for an answer, and hopefully we'll have one very soon.
Mimi: I don't believe this. I told my mom that I thought something was going to go wrong because something always goes wrong, but I never would have guessed this one in a million years.
Dr. Jaynes: It could be that there's nothing wrong. We just can't be sure yet.
Shawn D.: I just don't understand how this happened.
Dr. Jaynes: Well, neither can I, but believe me, I will get to the bottom of it.
Mimi: Great. Well, if our surrogate is not carrying our baby, then whose baby is she carrying?
Philip: Doctor, what's going on?
Belle: Hey, what are you doing here?
Mimi: Oh, no. [Sobbing]
Lucas: Come on, sleepyhead. I got the food for you. Carrie. Carrie. Honey, wake up. Wake up. Are you all right?
Carrie: Oh...I don't know.
Lucas: What happened?
Carrie: I stood up and I -- I got dizzy. Oh, my God, did I pass out?
Lucas: You must have. Come on, let's call 911.
Carrie: No, no, no. Don't do that, please. I'm fine. I am. I'm so sorry.
Lucas: Don't apologize. We got to get you to the hospital.
Carrie: No, I don't want to spend our wedding night in the hospital.
Lucas: Honey, I'm worried. I'm worried about you and the baby.
Carrie: No, Lucas, I promise you, I'm fine. I know what it is. I didn't eat anything today, except that little bit of cake that we had. Look, you said yourself, the reception was crazy and I was so nervous before the recep -- or the ceremony.
Lucas: All right, I understand.
Carrie: It's not very smart for a pregnant woman, huh? I really -- really, I'm so sorry.
Lucas: Stop it. Stop apologizing. That's ridiculous. Are you sure you're all right? Is there something else bothering you that you're not telling me about?
Carrie: No, I -- I just need to eat.
Lucas: All right. All right, I got food for you right here. Get something in your stomach and you'll feel a lot better, okay? Just take it easy. I'll get this together for you.
Austin: You know, of course I love Carrie. I mean [Laughs] I remember the first time I saw her. I thought, "that is the woman that I want to spend the rest of my life with." You know, you two were roommates. It was like it was meant to be. And for a long time, I thought it was. Getting married, planning a future. You know, those feelings never entirely go away..
Billie: I know.
Austin: But it didn't work out for us, you know. We screwed it up. She's with Lucas, I'm with Sami, end of story.
Billie: Oh, come on, is it?
Austin: Why wouldn't it be?
Billie: Come on, Austin, I know you and Carrie better than anyone else in this world. And I'm sorry, but you know what? You don't seem happy to me... and neither does Carrie. So, come on. Why would Carrie marry Lucas if she really loves you?
Austin: I don't know.
Billie: Is it the baby?
Austin: No, no. I mean...she accepted his proposal before she was pregnant. I mean, now that she is --
Billie: Yeah, things are a lot more complicated.
Billie: She must have given you some sort of a clue, though. Didn't Carrie explain to you why she was choosing Lucas?
Austin: No, she's been really weird about it, secretive.
Billie: Carrie doesn't keep secrets.
Austin: Well, maybe she's changed, Billie.
Billie: We've all changed.
Austin: Yeah. Well, you know what? If we've all changed, then what about Sami? I mean, is it so hard to believe that she's made a fresh start in her life?
Billie: Honestly, yes.
Austin: You know, I was afraid you were gonna say that.
Billie: Really? Well, then, why are you asking me that if you aren't sure about it yourself?
Austin: I don't know. Maybe I just want someone to tell me that I'm not insane or completely stupid for being with her again.
Billie: Austin, you're not insane. You're not stupid. You're not any of that. Look, okay...if you are really, truly, and honestly in love with Sami, then I'm happy for you.
Austin: Are you serious?
Austin: You totally changed the subject. How'd that happen? You completely changed -- hold on -- no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no. Wait a second, wait a second. Look, I don't want to talk about me. Now that we've analyzed and scrutinized my love life, what's going on with you?
E.J.: I'm sorry if you didn't realize I was standing there, but the door was wide open.
Sami: Oh, of course, come in.
E.J.: You talking to yourself?
Sami: Yeah, it's a bad habit of mine.
E.J.: Yeah, it is, especially if you don't want to be overheard.
Sami: You'd think I'd learn. [Chuckles]
E.J.: Is something bothering you? I'm a good listener. I mean, maybe I can help.
Sami: I, um, I'm fine, actually. I seem to have gotten myself into a bit of a jam. But I just have to claw my way out. That's what I'm good at anyway, clawing.
E.J.: I think they call that survival of the fittest.
Sami: Right. Do you need something, E.J.? I mean, there must be a reason you're here.
E.J.: Oh, um...I came to discuss some business, but you know what? It's late. It could wait until the morning.
Sami: Okay. Okay, good. I don't mean to be rude, but you should probably go. Austin will be back any second. He just went to get something from his car.
E.J.: Why would Austin care if I was up here discussing business with you? I'm concerned about you. What's going on? What is this black cloud you have hanging over yourself? I'm sorry, Samantha, I'm not leaving...not until you tell me what is going on.
Billie: [Chuckles] My love life? What love life?
Austin: Look...Hope is pregnant. I mean, it could be Patrick's, could be Bo's, both of whom are your exes. I know you still have feelings for both of them, don't you? So what are you hoping happens here?
Billie: The same way that you'll always feel about Carrie...is the same way that I will always feel about Bo. And I want him to be happy. So I want this baby to be his, because he will never be able to move on with anyone else but Hope.
Austin: He might not have a choice, Billie.
Bo: This baby is mine.
Patrick: Well, then, I will wish you well and be on my way. But if you're not --
Bo: If I'm not...doesn't mean you've won Hope.
Patrick: Well, I don't think it's a matter of winning. I think it comes down to who Hope wants to be with -- you or me.
Bo: I'm her husband. I love her. I'm not gonna give her up. You understand that?
Hope: So, the numbers on this chart --
Dr. Bader: Roughly equate to how many weeks pregnant you are.
Hope: Then according to this chart...I know exactly who the father of my baby is.
Philip: So, what's the emergency?
Dr. Jaynes: Well, I'm afraid that a mix-up may have occurred with the embryo transfers.
Belle: What? Um, you mean by mix-up between us, our babies?
Dr. Jaynes: I'm afraid so, but we're not sure. It could be that everything's just fine.
Philip: Yeah, or it could be that the surrogate is carrying our baby and Belle is carrying Mimi and Shawn's. Is that right?
Dr. Jaynes: Yes, that's possible.
Philip: Are you kidding me? How could you let this happen?
Dr. Jaynes: Nothing like this has ever happened on my watch before. I assure you, we take every precaution, but I have to say that situations like this are not completely unheard of.
Philip: I know, my mother went through this same situation because of a mix-up by a doctor like you.
Dr. Jaynes: I'm sorry. I didn't realize.
Philip: Did you realize that my father's on the board of this hospital, and when he finds out how careless you've been, you're gonna be out on your ass? Did you realize that, Dr. Jaynes?
Dr. Jaynes: I apologize to you all. I take full responsibility for this incident. I even contemplated whether I should even tell you about the possibility of an error when we don't even know for sure that one exists. But being that you and your father have been such generous benefactors --
Mimi: Okay, just -- is there a way that you can figure this all out?
Dr. Jaynes: Yes, I'm testing for genetic residue. By examining the catheters that transferred the embryos into your surrogate and Belle's uterine cavity, then I can be certain, beyond a doubt, whether or not a mistake was made.
Belle: Okay, how long is that gonna take?
Dr. Jaynes: The lab's working on it right now.
Lucas: You got it? Is that better?
Carrie: Mmm, much better.
Lucas: You sure?
Carrie: Yes, thank you.
Lucas: All right, good. You know, I almost forgot. I got something special for you.
Lucas: Mm-hmm, here we go.
Carrie: Aw. It's beautiful.
Lucas: You like it?
Carrie: Yes. It looks old.
Lucas: Well, it is. Gran gave it to me. It belonged to my father. And even though it wasn't his fault I grew up without a dad, but I want you to know that I will never leave you. I will never turn my back on you. I will always be here for you and that baby.
Carrie: I know. I've never doubted that for a minute, Lucas. When I see you with Will, you're the best dad.
Carrie: And I had a crazy childhood, too. It's amazing, you know, how things turn out. And if I'm honest with myself... I think I've been looking for something my whole life.. I just -- I feel so safe in your arms, Lucas. And I feel so blessed to be your wife.
Lucas: I'm blessed.
Billie: I'm not gonna wait around for Bo anymore.
Billie: I am not gonna be anyone's second choice, because you know what? I deserve better than that.
Austin: Yes, you do. I know there's someone out there for you.
Billie: Don't you have a laptop you have to go find?
Austin: Yeah, hold on. Um...wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I know the perfect guy for you.
Sami: [Clears throat] You know, I appreciate your concern, but I really don't think there's anything you can do to help me. Water?
E.J.: Just try me. Explain your dilemma.
Sami: God, it's a little bit more than a dilemma. It's like a dead end -- mine.
E.J.: Samantha, please. Look...I really meant what I said earlier. I'm your friend. You can trust me.
Sami: Thank you, E.J. That's sweet, but if I can't tell Austin the truth, how can I tell you?
E.J.: Because I'm different, okay? I'm not Austin. I'm not part of this town, and I'm not gonna hang you out to dry, and I'm not about to judge you.
Patrick: Bo, I don't need to be reminded that you and Hope have a history together. But I'm not concerned in her past, only her future.
Bo: Her future is with me.
Patrick: Well, time will tell. But if Hope is pregnant with my baby, I will be in her life. I'm gonna help raise my kid. Now, I'm not gonna use that baby to pursue a relationship with Hope, especially if she doesn't want that. But if Hope decides that...she wants some sort of future with me...there's nothing you or anyone can do about that.
Hope: All right.
Dr. Bader: Would you like a few minutes alone before you speak to your husband and Mr. Lockhart?
Hope: No. No, not -- now that I know the truth, there's really not much to think about. Could you please ask the two of them to come in?
Dr. Bader: Yes. Gentlemen...Hope would like to see both of you.
Shawn D.: You know...we're probably making a big deal out of nothing. I mean, they have all these safeguards in place, right, so what are the chances that they really made a mistake? Dr. Jaynes probably is just being extra cautious.
Philip: After what my mom went through to have me...the odds must have been a million to one that this would happen to anyone again... let alone us. You know, I wasn't really worried about it. My dad funds all of Dr. Jaynes' research. You would think that he would be extra, extra, extra careful. His entire future rests on a successful outcome for us.
Belle: You know, I actually asked the nurse how she knew it was my egg and what would happen if the lab mixed it up. Of course I was joking. She said that -- that it's impossible to make these kind of mistakes.
Mimi: Well, if that's true, then why do you seem so worried?
Belle: Let's just try and stay positive, okay?
Mimi: Positive? I'm sorry, I think it's not too crazy of me to be a little upset right now, Belle. Our babies may have been switched. Our surrogate may be carrying your and Philip's egg. And you might be carrying...mine and Shawn's. I need some air.
Shawn D.: Mimi.
Belle: [Sighs] God. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset her.
Philip: I know, I know. But I feel the same way she does. Honey, I'm about to break something.
Belle: Okay, you know what? Maybe everything's gonna work out just fine.
Mimi: Oh, my God. That is disgusting. Damn it.
Shawn D.: Hey, hey, come on.
Mimi: "Come on" what? Can things get any worse right now?
Shawn D.: It's gonna be okay.
Mimi: "Okay"? Are you kidding me, Shawn? This is a nightmare. Belle might be pregnant with our baby -- my best friend, your ex-girlfriend. Do things get any weirder than this?
Shawn D.: We don't even know if anything is wrong here.
Mimi: I know there is. I've had a bad feeling about this all night.
Shawn D.: But you have been saying that since we first started trying to get pregnant.
Mimi: I know, and I'm sorry. I know that you're sick to death of hearing me be negative, but you know what? In the end, you're gonna realize that I am right. All along, I have had a bad, bad feeling about this, and it's my fault.
Shawn D.: No, no, don't even go bringing up the abortion. Stop punishing yourself. One has nothing to do with the other.
Mimi: I wish I could believe that.
Shawn D.: All right, just listen to me, okay? You have to promise me, promise me that we are gonna get through this together...for the baby's sake.
Mimi: Okay. Okay, I promise.
Shawn D.: No matter what, we are gonna have our baby. Believe it. Okay?
Nurse: Well, it seems Mrs. Kiriakis is carrying her own egg and the Brady surrogate is carrying Mrs. Brady's egg.
Dr. Jaynes: Oh, thank God.
Nurse: Uh, don't thank him yet. There seems to be a bigger problem.
Dr. Jaynes: What do you mean?
Nurse: Maybe we were overly thorough, but when we checked the corresponding markers in the men's sperm, this is what we found.
Dr. Jaynes: Are you certain of this? [Sighing] Oh, God.
Billie: Yeah, thanks anyway, Austin, but I'm taking myself out of the dating competition for a while. And besides, I would feel like a total goober having my brother set me up on a date.
Austin: Who knows you better than anyone? Who knows how lucky this guy would be to find you?
Billie: Oh. I'll think about it. Who is he?
Austin: [Laughs] Okay. Well, okay, he's new in town. He's worldly, he's driven. He's charming, but he's a little edgy. You know, I think he's actually someone that could keep up with you.
Billie: What's his name?
Austin: E.J. Wells.
Sami: I appreciate it, E.J., but I think I owe it to Austin to tell him first.
E.J.: Fair enough. Look, I also wanted to apologize if I upset you earlier this evening. The last thing I meant was to come between you and your fiancé.
Sami: No, no, you didn't come between me and Austin.
Sami: I wonder where he is, anyway.
E.J.: Listen, I got to go, but you are gonna talk to him about this, right?
Sami: No. No, I can't tell him. If I do, I'll wind up alone.
E.J.: You said that you owed it to him.
Sami: I do. I do. I'm sorry, E.J. I think I had too much wine. I'm not thinking straight right now.
E.J.: Look, okay, listen, I understand...if you're keeping a secret from your fiancé, it feels wrong to tell it to me. But if you want an objective opinion from a third party, I can help you figure out what to do, and like you said, you're really not thinking straight right now.
Sami: I can’t.
E.J.: Okay. There must be somebody else. A family member, a friend.
Sami: My mom is a really good listener, but...she's kind of have [Sighs] She kind of has her own problems. She lost her memory. I mean, she got it back. She still doesn't remember that I exist, but, anyway, she went away with her husband...her ex-husband. It's confusing.
E.J.: Well, it doesn't sound like she's the best choice, you know?
Sami: You don't understand. I can't tell my family. Believe me...they wouldn't understand.
E.J.: Okay, well, there has to be somebody.
Sami: I used to...
E.J.: Who? Come on, tell me who.
Sami: Lucas. We were really...close and... but he wouldn’t...he wouldn't understand why I did it, and he would certainly never forgive me for this.
E.J.: Look...at the risk of becoming an accomplice to whatever...heinous crime you've committed, I still think two people can solve a problem much better than one. This is your last chance. Are you sure that you don't want to tell me exactly what's going on?
Sami: All right. All right, I'll tell you. But, um...please promise me that you won't tell anyone else and that you'll try not to judge me.
E.J.: I already did.
Sami: Look, E.J., you have to understand that this is pretty bad, so if you decide that you don't want to help me, or you can't, just...walk away, okay?
Bo: Fancy Face. Who's the father?
Hope: Patrick, you're the father.
Billie: Austin, I know who E.J. is, and...he's cute. But he's too young for me.
Austin: Who cares?
Billie: I do. I'm not into younger men.
Austin: Hold on, think about this. Hold on, wait, wait. I mean, women outlive men by, what, like eight years?
Billie: What's your point?
Austin: Instead of being this alone widow for all that time, you guys could die at the same time.
Billie: [Laughing] I don't want to die at the same time. I want to outlive him. And if he's really rich and he has a big, big inheritance, then I...
Both: ...Really want to outlive him! [Laughter]
Billie: Come on, now. You've got my whole life planned out until the day I die and I've hardly said two words to this guy.
Austin: Well, let's do something about that. Have coffee with the dude.
Billie: [Sighs] Austin...all right, if the opportunity presents itself, I'll think about it. I got to go. See ya.
Austin: Hey, be careful.
Billie: I will!
E.J.: Hey. Are you gonna let me read it or not?
Sami: I'm having second thoughts.
E.J.: Sami, I'm new to this town. I don't have any preconceived notions about you. And besides, a friend is somebody who knows all about somebody else and is still their friend. And that's who I am, and that is who I want to be to you.
Sami: E.J., I have trusted people in the past, and I've gotten burned for it.
E.J.: In other words, you don't trust me.
Sami: No. No, it's not that.
E.J.: It's okay. It's totally fine. If, um...if you don't want my help, that's your prerogative.
Sami: Wait. E.J., please promise me -- please promise me that after you read this, you won't hate me.
Belle: Hey, Mimi, I'm sorry I upset you. I'm just trying to keep everybody sane to get through this.
Mimi: No, it's fine. Just don't act like you're not worried, too.
Belle: Of course I'm worried. But it's kind of out of our hands now, isn't it?
Philip: Dr. Jaynes, what did you find out from the lab?
Dr. Jaynes: Well, I have good news and bad. Belle's egg was implanted in her and Mimi's surrogate was implanted with Mimi's.
Philip: Okay, that's good news. There's no mix-up. So what's the bad news?
Dr. Jaynes: I don't really know how to explain this to you. I can't apologize enough. According to the genetic residue found in both catheters, there was a mistake. But it didn't have anything to do with the eggs. It was the sperm.
Philip: What does that mean?
Dr. Jaynes: I'm afraid that Belle's egg was fertilized with Shawn's sperm and Mimi's egg was fertilized with Philip's.
Mimi: You mean I'm having a baby with Philip?
Shawn D.: And the baby Belle is carrying is mine?
Dr. Jaynes: I'm afraid so.
Mimi: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. This really is my worst nightmare.
Philip: How did you let this happen? How did you let this happen?
Dr. Jaynes: I assure you, nothing like this has ever happened.
Philip: What are we supposed to do?! This is my family! How does this happen?!
Dr. Jaynes: Look, we still have to examine --
Philip: Get out of here! Get out of here right now! Your career is over! Get yourself a lawyer and get the hell out of here! Get out of here!
Shawn D.: Please, step back. Let me deal with this, Philip. Take a deep breath.
Philip: "Take a deep breath"? Mimi is pregnant with my...
E.J.: At the very least, I'm burning it, and that way, neither Austin nor anybody else is ever going to find out about this.
Jennifer: I need you so much. Please, I can't live without you, please.
Hope: This baby's really lucky to have you as a father.
Philip: The only sane thing to do is to terminate both pregnancies right now.
Belle: Absolutely not.
