Nicole: Austin, no, okay. Please, this is crazy. You can't just throw away everything we worked so hard for. I'm not gonna let you. There's too much at stake here. Austin, you can't stop it.

Austin: I can sure as hell try.

Nicole: You're wasting your time, all right? This is impossible. Highstyle no longer exists -- at least, not the way it used to. You can't just say, "sorry, Carrie, honey, I made a mistake. I took it by accident. Here -- here's your company back."

Sami: Look, Nicole is right, Austin. I understand that this is not how you wanted things to happen, and I know that you're upset, but what's done is done and it can't be undone.

Austin: I don't believe that, okay? I don't believe that. There has to be a way to make things right. Carrie put her heart and soul into this company -- everything she had. And I love her too much to take it away from her. I wonít. I wonít.

********************************************************************

Lucas: I'm so sorry. I promise you, you're gonna be all right. You're gonna bounce back from this. You are. You're gonna start your own company from the ground up, maybe even somewhere else -- like Salem. Come on, Carrie, with your experience, you can do anything.

Carrie: With my experience? As a failed C.E.O. who had her company stolen right from under her? [Sighs] I don't think so, Lucas. My career is over.

Lucas: No, it's not over.

Carrie: Yes, it is. I've lost everything. Highstyle could have been incredibly successful. It was the chance of a lifetime, and I blew it.

Lucas: No.

Carrie: I mean, let's get real here. When am I gonna get a chance like that again?

Lucas: Listen, I promise you, you're gonna get plenty of chances like that. This is not your fault. It's not your fault that my brother took your company away from you.

Carrie: That's the worst part of all. Not only did I lose the business, I lost my future with Austin. There's no way that we will ever get back together.

********************************************************************

Patrick: Excuse me, can you tell me when Billie Reed will be arraigned?

Officer: I really couldn't say.

Patrick: Come on, you must know something. She's got to get out of here. She doesn't belong here.

********************************************************************

Kate: Patrick? I got a message that Billie was here. What happened? Is she all right?

Patrick: No, Kate, not really. I've got some bad news.

Kate: What?

Patrick: I guess you haven't seen the paper. Billie confessed to being the hit-and-run driver who killed Zach Brady.

Kate: What?

Patrick: She's being charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crime. Now, they've got her locked up. I'm not even sure she'll get bail.

Officer: Turn right. Turn left.

********************************************************************

Chelsea: [Sniffles] No, I canít. I can't do this. Guys, please don't make me do this.

Max: Yes, you can, Chelsea. You have to tell them. You have to tell them what really happened -- that you were driving Bo's car when you accidentally hit Zach, and your mother didn't do it.

Abby: Chelsea, we're gonna be right here with you. It's gonna be okay.

Chelsea: No, it's not gonna be okay. My life is gonna be over. I can't go to jail. I can't do this, you guys. I changed my mind. I cannot tell them that it was me, and you guys can't either. You're my friends.

Abby: It's not right.

Chelsea: You're supposed to keep my secret.

Abby: Chelsea, it is not right to keep lying.

Max: Chelsea, you have to tell them, and you know it. The truth's gonna come out sooner or later. You said yourself that Patrick was already suspicious, and he's not buying that Billie did it. And knowing him, he's not just gonna let that go.

Abby: And besides, Bo already knows the truth. How long do you think he's gonna keep it a secret from Hope?

********************************************************************

[Door opens]

Bo: Hey. Soup's almost ready.

Hope: I'm not hungry.

Bo: Hope, come on, you got to eat. You haven't had anything since... you got to eat something. You'll make yourself sick.

Hope: I don't care if I get sick.

Bo: Well, I do. You know what? Just put something in your stomach. Do it for me.

Hope: His favorite -- Zach's favorite t-shirt. How could Billie do this to us? I hope she rots in prison. I hope this haunts her for the rest of her life.

Bo: Hope, there's something I got to tell you -- something you need to know.

********************************************************************

Chelsea: Look, Bo is not gonna tell Hope. He canít. And Patrick doesn't really know anything, so my secret should be safe.

Abby: What about your mother? Billie confessed, and she's taking the rap for you. She's going to jail. How could you just stand by and let that happen? How could you not speak up?

Chelsea: My mother is dead, Abby. Her name was Rita Benson. And she raised me with my dad -- my real dad. And now they're both gone, and I'll never see them again because some drunk driver had to go and kill them. At least I wasn't driving drunk.

Max: Of course you werenít. What happened was an accident.

Abby: Chelsea, Bo and Billie are your birth parents. And I know you may not have accepted that, but they love you. And obviously, they would do anything for you. Billie is willing to go to jail for you. She confessed just to protect you. That's why you have to do the right thing and you have to go in there and you have to tell the police the truth.

Max: Abby's right. It's the only way. You can't just stand aside and let your mother -- Billie -- be punished for something she didn't do.

Chelsea: But Billie wouldn't be punished. She was a cop. She was ISA. Her driving record is perfect. She could totally get out of this. I would never be able to. They would put me away forever. My life would be over. I would die there.

Abby: Chelsea, you can't --

Chelsea: Abby, no. Just both of you leave me alone, okay? Because I told you that I changed my mind, and I meant it. I am not gonna tell them that it was me. I canít.

********************************************************************

Kate: Oh, my God. This is just impossible. I don't believe it. Billie ran down Zach with Bo's car? She didn't stop? She didn't report it? She would never do anything -- it's not something she would do.

Patrick: Yeah, I know it's not.

Kate: She wouldn't even borrow Bo's car without asking him. I don't believe it. I just don't believe it.

Patrick: I don't believe it, either. There's no way she would ever leave the scene -- never.

Kate: You're absolutely right.

Patrick: In fact, that's why I'm here.

Kate: What do you mean?

Patrick: Well, I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but your daughter and I [Clears throat] we've gotten pretty close. I don't want to see her throw her life away. There's something going on here, and I intend to find out what it is.

Kate: Well, I appreciate that. I do, but, look, I just don't understand this whole thing. It doesn't make sense to me. Why would she confess to doing it if she didn't do it?

Patrick: That's exactly what I'm gonna find out. The strange thing is -- it's almost like Billie wants to go to jail. She won't accept anyone's help. She won't get a lawyer..

Kate: I'm gonna go talk to her. Let me go talk to her right now.

********************************************************************

Kate: Excuse me, would it be possible for me to spend some time with my daughter? Just a few minutes.

Officer: You've got 10.

Kate: Thank you. What are you doing?

Billie: Hi, mom. Thanks for coming down, but if you're here to try and talk me out of this, it's too late. I've already confessed.

Kate: Yeah, I heard you confessed to hitting and killing Bo and Hope's little boy. I'm not buying it, Billie.

Billie: What do you mean?

Kate: I mean that you're an ex-Cop. You're ISA. You're skilled. You're a careful driver. There is no way that you could have done something like this.

Billie: Mom, even skilled and careful drivers have accidents.

Kate: Billie, you left the scene. You hit him, and then you drove away.

Billie: I know that you don't want to believe that I'm capable of doing something like that. I don't either. But I did, okay? I did.

Kate: Why were you so anxious to come to jail? Why wouldn't you get a lawyer? It just doesn't make sense. There is more to this story. I know there's more to this story. And I'm gonna find out what it is, so why don't you just -- why don't you save us both the trouble, and just tell me the truth?

Billie: Okay. I will tell you what really happened, but you have to promise me that you won't tell another living soul.

Kate: Billie, why? What's going on?

Billie: Shh. Believe me. When you hear the truth, you'll understand why I'm doing this.

********************************************************************

Hope: What is it? What do you have to tell me, Bo?

********************************************************************

Chelsea: Are you gonna tell the police that I was the one driving your car? You know what? It doesn't even matter, because if you don't, then Hope will.

Bo: I don't know how this is gonna play out. I'm not gonna make things worse by lying to my wife.

Chelsea: So what's gonna happen? I'm gonna be charged with murder, and then I'm gonna go to prison. If that happens, my whole life will be over.

Bo: From now on, no matter what I do... whether I'm at the office or walking down the street or lying in bed at night... ...I will always have the knowledge that I'm the reason my son is dead. And whenever I look Hope in the eyes...I'll know she feels the same way. She'll always blame me.

********************************************************************

Hope: What? Tell me.

Bo: I just want you to know that...

Hope: What?

Bo: ...I love you. I will always love you no matter what. Nothing could ever change that.

Hope: I don't know how I'd get through this without you.

Bo: Well, that's not something you have to worry about 'cause we're always gonna be together.

Hope: [Sniffles]

Bo: Somehow, we'll get through this together.

Hope: What is that? It's a little piece of paper in Zach's pocket. "Mommy and Zach." [Sniffles]

Bo: Hope, come here.

********************************************************************

Carrie: [Sighs]

Lucas: Look, I am so sorry. I really am. I wish there was something I can do or something I can say. I know how disappointed you are on so many levels.

Carrie: [Sighs] As horrible as it is losing my company, losing Austin hurts more. I actually thought we had a chance -- a chance of getting back together and having the future that we once dreamed about. You know, even after everything that we've been through -- our divorce, Sami's scheming to keep us apart -- I thought that it was gonna happen this time. I thought that there was nothing to stand in our way.

Lucas: Yeah, me too. As much as I didn't want to admit it.

Carrie: How could I have been so stupid?

Lucas: You're not stupid. This is not your fault. How could you have known that Austin would have done something like this?

Carrie: I rushed into things. Maybe if I had taken my time. But I got carried away. After my breakup with Mike, all I could think about was Austin. And it's not that I didn't love Mike. I did. But I never got Austin out of my heart. Of course, I thought that it was hopeless. I thought for sure that he would have found someone else after all this time.

Lucas: Yeah, but you still came back for him, you know? You risked your heart.

Carrie: And no one was more shocked than me when I realized that he still had feelings for me. And that maybe we could get back together. It seemed too good to be true.

Lucas: Well, I warned you. I'm telling you -- that man's not the same person. I didn't think he'd do something like this, but... he's not the same person he was when you left town.

Carrie: No, he's not. In fact, he's someone I don't even recognize.

********************************************************************

Sami: Look, Austin, I don't want to say, "I told you so."

Nicole: Then donít.

Sami: But I did. From day one, I thought this whole hostile-takeover thing was a really bad idea, and I told Nicole a million times, didn't I, Nicole? But you just kept pushing.

Nicole: Excuse me? Wasn't it your job to get the name of the Highstyle C..E.O.? But somehow you never managed to find out that it was Carrie, even though she put her Highstyle business card into your address book. But you never managed to look at it. I find that impossible.

Sami: Don't you dare try to pin this on me. You were the one who was doing the research, Nicole. And you're the one who failed when you didn't find out that Carrie was the C.E.O.

Nicole: [Scoffs]

Sami: Or maybe you did find out. How do we know you didn't find out that Carrie was the C.E.O.? And you decided not to tell Austin because you knew he wouldn't go through with the takeover. You wanted Austin for yourself, and you saw this as an opportunity to drive a wedge between him and Carrie forever.

Nicole: What? You're crazy. That sounds like something you would do.

Austin: You know what? She's right. It does.

********************************************************************

Hope: I miss him so much. I miss my baby.

Bo: I know. I know you do.

Hope: It's the last thing I have from him -- the last drawing he ever made for me. He told me I had a surprise. I couldn't see it until he finished. Now he'll never get the chance to finish it.

Bo: Hope, come on, don't do this to yourself.

Hope: What do you mean? I don't have to do anything. Everywhere I look I see Zach -- his toys, his cup, everything, his pictures. I don't want to forget. I don't ever want to forget. Memories are all I have left. I want to remember every single one of them.

[Doorbell rings] Don't answer that, please. I don't want to see anyone..

Bo: Hey, um, it could be family. It would be good for you to... I'll just see who it is.

Hope: My sweet, brave boy. [Sniffles] Zach, I'm so sorry, honey. I told you I'd protect you, and I didnít. I promise you, I'm gonna keep this forever. I'm not gonna let anything happen to it, Zach. Believe me.

********************************************************************

Bo: Hope? We have company.

Hope: I don't want to see anyone. I told you.

Bo: I know, I know. It's Mrs. H. and Maggie and Julie. Come on.

Hope: Gran.

Alice: Hope.

Hope: Oh, Gran.

[Sobs]

********************************************************************

Kate: I can't believe what I'm hearing. You're telling me Chelsea was driving Bo's car? Your daughter killed her brother?

Billie: Shh, mom, please keep your voice down. No one can know the truth, okay?

Kate: Billie, this is insane. What the hell are you doing?

Billie: I'm protecting my daughter. I had no choice. They would put her in jail.

Kate: Yes, yes, you do have a choice, okay? You can tell the truth. Now, I know that Chelsea's responsible, but it was an accident. They're not going to charge her with a crime.

Billie: Oh, really, mom? Really? Because the last time I checked, hit-and-run was a serious felony.

Kate: Okay, well, look. You're only making it worse by not telling the truth. Billie, I know what you're trying to do. I know you're trying to protect her, but not this way, baby. You can't go to jail and take the blame for it. It's crazy.

Billie: I've made my decision, mom, and there is nothing you can do to stop me.

Kate: Okay, fine, you're not gonna tell the truth. I will.

********************************************************************

[Music playing]

Sami: Austin, I had no idea that Highstyle was Carrie's company. If I did, I would have told you. I would have warned you. Look, I understand why you're suspicious of me, okay? And you have every right to be. But I know that if I pulled a stunt like that, you would fire me in a second. And, frankly, I can't take that risk. You believe me, don't you?

Austin: Yes, I believe you, Sami. It's not your fault. If there's anyone to blame, it's me.

Sami: No.

Austin: I was supposed to find out who the C.E.O. was. I failed. I should have tried harder.

Sami: Austin, Nicole is the one who should have tried --

Nicole: Me?!

Sami: Yes, you were the one in L.A. going through Highstyle's offices, right? You were supposed to find out information about Highstyle and its C.E.O.

Nicole: Wait, I tried, okay? I even went undercover pretending to apply for a job, but thanks to that Pit Bull Assistant, I got nowhere, and I sure as hell did not find out that Carrie was the C.E.O.

Sami: Well, what were you doing pressuring Austin to do a hostile takeover on a company that you didn't have all the information?

Nicole: Well, we all didn't have the information, but what's the big deal? It was going down anyway. You yelling at me does not --

Sami: I am not yelling.

Austin: Okay, shut up. Please. Thank you. Ugh. There's no point in arguing about this anymore. What is done is done. I am gonna give back to Carrie what belongs to her if it is the last thing that I do.

********************************************************************

Carrie: The Austin I used to know could never do this to anyone or to me.. Plotting hostile takeovers wasn't his style.

Lucas: Yeah, well, obviously, he's changed. He's not the same man you fell in love with. He's a hard-nosed businessman now. Ever since he got back from New York, all he cares about is business. That's the bottom line with him. He doesn't care about who he tramples on in the process.

Carrie: Unbelievable.

Lucas: I can't believe he did this. I'm just so sorry that you got hurt. You don't deserve that, Carrie. You deserve a man to love you and respect you and be honest with you about who he is and what he is... someone who'd be there for you no matter what. Tell you the truth, I don't think that's my brother.

Carrie: No, it isnít.

Lucas: Question is, now that you've seen him for who he really is, are you really gonna give him up? Can you give him up?

********************************************************************

Maggie: I know that you don't feel much like eating, but I thought I'd bring a few little things from the restaurant -- a tossed salad and hot rolls and those grilled vegetables that you love.

Alice: And I brought you chicken soup.

Hope: I know, and it was so sweet of you to bring it to me. And I really appreciate all that you're trying to do, but honestly, I just -- I can't eat.

Julie: Then you must force yourself, honey. You must keep up your strength if not for yourself, for Bo and for Shawn. You know, your family needs you just as much as you need them. You need each other to get through this.

Maggie: So where are you off to? We're just about to eat.

Bo: Oh, well, now that Hope is in your capable hands, I thought I'd check in at the station.

Hope: You mean check in on Billie, right? The woman who murdered our son?

********************************************************************

Billie: Mom, please, please. You can't tell the police what really happened, because if they find out that Chelsea was driving that car and she fled the scene, they will put her in jail.

Kate: No, no, they wonít. Because we're going to get her a good lawyer. We're gonna get a team of lawyers -- the very best that money can buy.

Billie: Money? Money can't buy her out of this, mom. So please, for once in your life, just be quiet and mind your own damn business.

Kate: God, Billie. Why? Why are you doing this? Why do you have to do this?

Billie: Why am I doing this? Because she's my daughter and I'm her mother. And that's what mothers do -- they protect their children. But then I guess you wouldn't understand that, would you? Because you didn't protect me and Austin. You let our abusive father take us away from you -- a man who neglected us and got me hooked on drugs.

Kate: You know very well that Curtis told me you and Austin were dead, just the way you were told that Georgia was dead. There's nothing that I could have done, Billie.

Billie: Well, there's something that I can do, and I'm doing it. I'm gonna make up for what happened to my daughter, and I'm gonna be there for her in a way that you were never there for me. And if that means sacrificing my life for her, then so be it!

********************************************************************

Chelsea: Look, I feel horrible about what happened. Believe me, I do. But when I hit Zach, I had no idea what I had done. I was so distracted, I didn't even see him.

Abby: Distracted by what?

Chelsea: [Sniffles] I was looking for my cellphone in my purse because I was gonna call you and tell you where I was.

Abby: Chelsea...

Chelsea: I know. You don't even have to tell me, Abby. It's against the State Law to be driving while using a handheld. Just go ahead and add that to my list of crimes -- vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crime, hit-and-run. Now do you see why I cannot tell them the truth? They would put me away forever.

Abby: But if you let Billie take the blame, they'll put her away. Is that really what you want?

Patrick: Chelsea, I need to talk to you some more about the accident that killed Zach.

********************************************************************

Kate: How could you think that I didn't care about you and Austin? Nothing could be further from the truth. Why do you think that I'm here now?

Billie: I'm sorry, mom. I don't mean to hurt you. But that's how I felt growing up. I felt abandoned by my own mother, and I know that's not fair to you, but the point is... I won't abandon Chelsea... because I let somebody take her away from me once before, and I won't let it happen again.

Kate: So you're gonna be there for her? You're gonna be there for her in your jail cell in prison?

Billie: Mom, better me than her. I can handle it. I've been here before. Man, I've been busted for drugs, prostitution, whatever.

Kate: Sweetie, that was a long time ago.

Billie: Even so. I can survive. Chelsea canít. Even -- even after she got out of jail, her life would never be the same.

Kate: Sweetie, please. Please don't do this. Please.

Billie: Mom, stop it. I've made my decision.

Kate: You have no idea of what you're doing, Billie.

Billie: I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm not repeating the same mistakes that you made. I wasn't there for my daughter when she was growing up, but I am sure as hell gonna be there for her now.

********************************************************************

Bo: Hope, I don't want to fight about Billie.

Hope: Then why do you insist on worrying about her? She's the reason our son is dead. As far as I'm concerned, she can rot in hell.

Bo: No, it's... it's not what you think. I wish you could understand.

Alice: No, it's all right, Bo. Now, why don't you go on? Give her a little time. We'll take care of Hope.

Hope: Go ahead. I'll be fine. Go do what you need to do.

Bo: I won't be long.

Alice: Wait.

********************************************************************

Lucas: Here you go.

Carrie: Thanks.

[Sniffles]

Lucas: You still haven't answered my question?

Carrie: Your question?

Lucas: Yeah, you and Austin -- is it over with you two?

Carrie: I don't know. I mean, I still can't believe he could do what he did. It seems like something Sami would do...or Nicole... but Austin? How could he have changed that much? It doesn't seem possible.

Lucas: Oh, my God. You're gonna give him another chance, aren't you? Another chance to hurt you.

********************************************************************

Austin: Are you sure there's not some way -- something that I can do to turn this thing around? So it's too late. Yeah. No, no, no. I understand. Thank you. Bye. Damn it.

Nicole: Austin, I tried to tell you earlier. There's no going back.

Austin: I had to try.

Sami: And it's a good thing that you did try, but now you know for sure that it's over for Carrie's company. Well, we have to move on, Austin, and I think the first thing that you should do is fire Nicole.

Austin: Sami...

Sami: Austin, we could run this business way better, just the two of us, and we could go a lot further, too.

Nicole: No, you're the one who needs to be fired, because unlike you, I'm a valuable employee. I don't keep secrets from my boss.

Sami: Meaning what?

Nicole: Meaning that you're up to something, as usual, Sami, and you're not gonna get away with it. And before long, your sorry ass is gonna be out on the unemployment line.

Sami: Oh, you don't even know what you're talking about.

Nicole: Oh, really?

Sami: Yes, what, were you busy coloring your hair instead of doing --

Austin: All right, stop it. Nobody is getting fired. It's my company. I'm the boss. Bottom line. The takeover was my responsibility. I signed off on it, and there is no one else to blame, okay?

Nicole: Including you, Austin. Look, it was an innocent mistake, but it's over now, so let's move on. Now, I still believe, when it's all said and done, that taking over Highstyle is gonna be an incredible opportunity for us. With you in charge, this one struggling company will finally realize its full potential. It's gonna be a huge success, and that is good for everyone.

Austin: Expect for Carrie.

********************************************************************

Lucas: Damn it. What's going on with you, Carrie? Why won't you tell me? You can't be thinking about forgiving Austin after everything he's done... after everything I've done to make sure we could get together. Man... if you forgive him, that's it. We got no chance.

********************************************************************

Austin: I'm really glad that you came over. I just wanted to tell you again how sorry I am.

Carrie: Oh, sorry.

Austin: I had no idea that Highstyle was your company. I mean, obviously, if I had, there's no way I would have gone ahead with the takeover. Anyway, I have been trying like hell to reverse it, but... it's impossible. I...I canít. I just hope you can find some way to forgive me. Can you?

********************************************************************

Hope: [Sighs]

Julie: How you doing, sweetheart?

Hope: I'm just cleaning up a little bit.

Maggie: You know, you hardly touched the food we made. Why don't you try to have some soup or a piece of toast?

Hope: Maybe later I will.

Maggie: You promise?

Hope: Yeah, I will. Thank you. Both of you, thank you so much for being here.

Julie: We love you.

Hope: I love you, too. And I really appreciate all that you and Gran have tried to do, but right now I just... I need to be alone. I hope you understand that. I just need to be alone.

********************************************************************

Patrick: Max, Abby, uh, will you excuse us for a minute? I'd like to talk to Chelsea in private.

Max: Yeah, no problem.

Abby: Chelsea, remember what I told you. Do the right thing.

********************************************************************

Chelsea: So, what's this about?

Patrick: Let's go into Roman's office.

Chelsea: So what is it?

Patrick: I want you to be honest with me, Chelsea -- completely honest.

Chelsea: About what?

Patrick: Well, I sense you know more than you're saying. What really happened, Chelsea? Why is Billie taking the blame for Zach when you and I both know she's innocent?

********************************************************************

Bo: Kate?

Kate: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry about Zach. Bo, I know that Billie didn't do this, though.

Bo: Me too.

Kate: You have to talk to her. You have to talk to her and get her to tell the truth. You can't let her go through with this.

Bo: I'm gonna talk to her right now. Hey, Mary, why don't you take a break?

Mary: Yes, sir.

Bo: Okay, thanks.

********************************************************************

Billie: I told them I didn't want any more visitors.

Bo: I'm not letting you go through with this. You're not going to jail for Chelsea. I'm putting a stop to the lies right now.

********************************************************************

Abby: Chelsea, what are you doing?

********************************************************************

Jennifer: You know that Bo was destroyed by losing Zach.

Hope: I just don't understand how he can even talk to her.

********************************************************************

Billie: It could be the end of your marriage. Is that what you want?

********************************************************************

Marlena: I would like it very much if we could renew our wedding vows.
