Frankie: Goodbye, Jennifer. I still love you -- always have, always will..
Carrie: I don't understand. You're the one that took my company? You're the one that destroyed it?
Austin: Highstyle was the company I was talking about. It was our takeover target. I just -- I had no idea.
Nicole: Ooh, ooh, there you are. Hey, boss, I got some great news. Okay, per your instructions, Highstyle's entire work force has been pink-slipped, all the way down to the mailroom.
Carrie: Oh, my God.
Austin: Nicole, not now.
Nicole: No, no, no, no. You're gonna want to hear this. Look, the outstanding stocks have been reassigned, and I succeeded in terminating the lease on those crummy L.A. offices. And to think, they called themselves "Highstyle."
Austin: Just stop it.
Nicole: Why? I thought you would be happy. Come on, it's time to celebrate. Um...is there a problem?
Sami: Well, it would seem so. Highstyle was Carrie's company.
Nicole: For real?
Carrie: Yes, for real.
Officer: Commander Brady.
Roman: What's up?
Officer: Your nephew's hit-and-run, sir. Miss Reed was about to give us a formal statement. That is, unless, of course, you want to do it yourself.
Roman: No. No, you handle it. But I do want a word alone with Miss Reed before you book her.
Officer: You got it.
Billie: Look, let's not put this off any longer. Let me just make my statement and get it over with.
Roman: Can't do that.
Billie: Why not? I took Bo's car without his permission. I hit Zach, and I left the scene.
Roman: No, Billie, you didnít. Chelsea did.
Chelsea: [Sniffles] Oh, God, Zach, I'm so sorry. I feel so horrible about what happened. But I can't go to jail. I just canít.
Patrick: Good, you're here.
Chelsea: You were looking for me?
Patrick: Yeah, and you better have a good explanation for what you've done.
Chelsea: My God, you know?
Bo: Hope, come on. And, hey, don't -- don't do this.
Hope: This is all we have now -- this sign...his room... his toys. It's all that's left of Zach.
Bo: Yeah. Hope, come on.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.
Jennifer: Why did you come back?
Frankie: Where are you going?
Jennifer: Sorry. Go ahead.
Frankie: Um...keys. I walked off with them.
Jennifer: Um, you know, you could have just dropped them in the mail, put them in an envelope, but, you know, why don't you just hold onto them? The next time you're in town, you'll have them, so...
Frankie: Okay. If you don't need them. Sure?
Jennifer: Yeah, no.
Frankie: Oh, it's the cab. I don't want to make you -- I don't want to be late, you know. Where you headed? Maybe we can drop you?
Jennifer: Oh, no. No thanks. I wasn't going anywhere.
Frankie: You've got your coat, Jen.
Jennifer: Oh. Actually, I was gonna try to catch you before you left.
Sami: Carrie, I am so sorry. Um, God. This sucks.
Carrie: So, it's true. Austin and the two of you -- you're the ones that have taken my company from me?
Nicole: You're the one who ran that company into the ground.
Austin: You're not helping.
Carrie: I cannot believe that this is happening. Highstyle was my baby. You fired my employees.
Austin: I know it sounds lame, and I am really sorry --
Carrie: How could you do this to me, Austin? Didn't I mean anything to you?
Austin: Of course you did. You still do.
Carrie: How could I have been such an idiot? You don't care about me. You never did.
Austin: That is so not true.
Carrie: When I think about...us reconnecting, how good I was feeling, and now to find out the whole time you were scheming to destroy my company.
Austin: You have got this all wrong. I know you're shocked, but so am I. I never dreamed that Highstyle was yours.
Lucas: Wait a minute. You got to be kidding me. You waged a hostile takeover against a company you didn't even know who the C.E.O. was?
Austin: I tried to find out. We all did.
Lucas: Why don't you just admit it? You knew Carrie was the C.E.O. You just didn't give a damn.
Austin: You don't know anything about this. Stop pretending you do.
Carrie: Austin, I gave Sami my business card.
Sami: Um, yeah, Carrie, you put it in my address book. And I never looked at it, not until just now. I'm sorry. I wish I had.
Carrie: Oh, God. Your trip to Los Angeles -- you were scoping out my company. That's why you were there, isn't it?
Nicole: No, no, no. Austin, Sami, and I went to L.A. because we wanted to go on Mr. Toad's wild ride. Hello? Of course that's why we went there.
Billie: Bo told you about Chelsea?
Roman: What? You didn't think he would? He's my brother.
Billie: I don't care! He had no right telling you!
Roman: Billie, not only did he have a right, he had a duty. He's a police officer.
Billie: Well, it doesn't matter because I say I was the one behind the wheel of that car, and no one can prove that it wasn't me, so there's nothing you can do.
Roman: Billie! Damn it, I'm not talking to you as a cop. I'm talking to you as a friend, and what you're doing is plain wrong.
Billie: I'm not asking for your approval.
Roman: Taking the blame for something Chelsea did is very noble. You're trying to protect her. I understand that. But the truth will come out, and when it does, it's gonna be a hell of a lot worse for everybody, but especially, especially for you and your daughter.
Patrick: I know that Billie claims she ran over Zach Brady. It's right here on the front page. But it also says you were at the hospital when she made that confession.
Patrick: So how could you let her take the blame for something she didn't do?
Chelsea: How do you know that she didn't do it? Besides, I couldn't stop her.
Patrick: Did you even try? Don't you care if your mother goes to prison?
Chelsea: Yeah, I don't want anyone to go to prison, but she confessed. What was I supposed to do?
Patrick: There's something more going on here. I want you to tell me everything you know, Chelsea. And I mean everything. Don't leave out a single detail.
Hope: [Sniffles] [Sobbing]
Bo: Hey. Come on, let's go.
["Twinkle, twinkle, little star" plays]
Hope: Zach was so sweet... so good.
Bo: Hey. Don't do this to yourself. Let's go.
Hope: No, I want to be close to him. [Sobbing] Oh, my God. I can't believe we left him in the hospital. He's never coming home. He's not coming home, Bo. Oh, my God. I know he's gone. I don't want to let him go, Bo. I canít. I -- I want him back. I want my -- my baby back. My little boy, my angel.
Bo: I know, I know. We're gonna make it through this, Fancy Face. I know we will.
Hope: How? How can we get through this? How do you know that?
Bo: Zach would want us to.
Frankie: I let the cab go.
Jennifer: Oh, okay. What about your flight?
Frankie: I'll get another one. What did you want to talk to me about?
Jennifer: Um...just, um, some things I wanted to say. Some things that I feel I needed to say to you.
Jennifer: Okay, um...when you told me that you were still in love with me, I feel bad about the way that I reacted.
Frankie: No, donít. But, Jennifer, deep down, you had to know something.
Jennifer: I don't know. Maybe I did, maybe I suspected it, but until you actually said the words, I --
Frankie: It wasn't real.
Jennifer: No, I -- no.
Frankie: I'm really sorry if it upset you.
Jennifer: No, for someone as terrific as you to say that, why would that upset me? I was upset because Jack asked you to take his place and you agreed. And the two of you didn't think that I could decide my own future for myself.
Frankie: I know. I'm really sorry.
Jennifer: I know you're sorry. I know, and I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I lashed out at you. I feel like I am angry at the world right now.
Jennifer: But I also have so much to be grateful for, too. So thank you. Thank you for opening up to me about Jack and for being honest with your feelings.
Frankie: You're welcome.
Jennifer: So, now I think that I need to be honest with you.
Frankie: About what?
Jennifer: My feelings for you.
Austin: Look, you have to believe me. I did not know it was your company, that you were the C.E.O. of Highstyle.
Carrie: Okay. Let's say you didn't know it was my company. If you had, would it have made a difference?
Austin: Of course it would have.
Lucas: If you knew Carrie was the C.E.O., you really would have sacrificed your own company's future to stop the takeover like that?
Carrie: He told me that I had to learn to be tough in business, that I had to put the bottom line before the people, no matter how much I cared about them. I already know his answer.
Carrie: Oh, God, Austin. All the hours we spent talking about old times, planning for our future, that was all part of your plan, wasn't it?
Austin: How could you even think that?
Carrie: The real question is how could I have been so stupid? You were just keeping gullible me occupied while your two partners were out there chopping up my company. Well, congratulations, Austin. Please, don't let me keep you from celebrating your triumph.
Austin: Carrie, please. We'll undo it. We'll cancel the deal, and we'll make everything at your company go back to the way it was.
Nicole: Excuse me. That would be a really neat trick if you could pull that off, Austin, but you canít. This takeover is a fait accompli. Highstyle is dead. There's no way of bringing it back to life.
Patrick: Come on, what do you know about the accident?
Chelsea: I don't know what you mean.
Patrick: Something's going on here. For some reason, Billie is taking the fall. So I ask myself, "why would she lie and say she killed an innocent little boy?"
Roman: Billie, Chelsea has to accept the consequences of her actions. Sooner or later, she's gonna have to anyway because there are a whole lot of people that know she was driving Bo's car. Now, I know you want to keep the real story from coming out, but you canít.
Billie: Well, I can sure as hell try. Chelsea's just a kid, Roman. And she's had a really tough time. Zach's gone, and I feel terrible about that, but Chelsea going to jail isn't going to change that.
Roman: Listen to me. You're just digging a deep hole for yourself and for Chelsea. And what about Bo and Hope?
Billie: What about them?
Roman: You know Bo as well as I do. He's gonna tell Hope what really happened.
Billie: He hasn't, has he?
Roman: No. No, he hasn't, not yet, 'cause he doesn't want to make her pain any greater than it is. My God, they just lost a son. They need time to grieve. But, Billie, their marriage is based on honesty, and believe me, Bo will tell her about Chelsea.
Billie: Did he tell you that?
Roman: Yes, he did.
Billie: Then you've got to stop him because Hope can never know the truth.
Hope: Billie better pay for what she's done. She murdered my son.
Bo: Hope, Zach's death was an accident.
Hope: An accident? You make it sound like Zach fell and skinned his knee.. What the hell is wrong with you? Our son was run over and left to die. That's not an accident. It's murder. She took my son from me. Every time I walk into this room...into this house, I'm gonna look for Zach. And he won't be here. I'll never hear his laughter again. I'll never be able to hold him, kiss him, and tell him how much I love him. I'll never be able to read him a bedtime story. They all end in happily ever after. There is no happily ever after, not for Zach, or you, me. [Sobbing] Donít. Can you look at this? Sure.
Jennifer: You know, over the years, uh...there were times when I thought of you...not only as a friend.
Frankie: Go on.
Jennifer: Well, there was a while when Jack and I -- when we weren't together, and, you know, when you're alone, you start thinking about your past, and all these memories just came flooding back to me, and I -- I thought of you. And I thought of how close we were and how much you meant to me. You were my first love, Frankie, and -- and you know what they say about your first love -- you never forget.
Frankie: You don't have to tell me this.
Jennifer: Right, so what I want you to understand is I wasn't just thinking about you as a pal or a guy that I went out with. And I want to be honest with you. I never had those feelings when Jack and I were together.
Frankie: I know how much you love Jack, how much you still love him.
Jennifer: Yes. I will always love him.
Frankie: What you had with Jack was real. Yeah, I know you -- you split up a couple of times. At the end, you always reconnected. In fact, the last time you got together, you even had another child.
Jennifer: Yeah. A little boy who shares his daddy's name -- Jack Jr. [Sighs ] You know, we -- we thought we had all the bad behind us. Jack and I thought that -- that were gonna grow old together and have our children and our grandchildren. It just wasn't meant to be.
Frankie: Hey, when you lose what you had with Jack, you never get over that, ever. But Jack, he didn't want you to stop living. Jennifer, what you have to remember is how lucky you are to have what you had with Jack. Some people never even experience anything like that.
Jennifer: I know. Okay. Okay, we were lucky for a little while. And my family, they don't want me to mourn Jack for the rest of my life. I understand that, but I also cannot be unfaithful to the love that the two of us shared.
Frankie: I understand.
Jennifer: You do?
Frankie: Which is why I have to leave.
Jennifer: No, but that's the reason why I was coming after you.
Frankie: What is the reason?
Jennifer: I don't want you to leave.
Austin: Come here, come here. Now, Nicole, just think. There has got to be a way to salvage Carrie's company. Think.
Nicole: It is too late. The horses are already out of the gates, and if I mix metaphors a bit, I'm afraid all the king's horses and all the king's men aren't gonna help you out here. Highstyle's like Humpty-Dumpty.
Austin: That supposed to be funny?
Nicole: No, I'm trying to get you to face the facts that Carrie's company is kaput, over, finished.
Sami: Um, Austin, you're the one who said that our company needed to take over Highstyle so that we would succeed. I mean, we would have gone bankrupt if we didnít.
Austin: I swear. I did not know it was your company.
Lucas: Did you even try to find out whose company it was?
Austin: I tried. I called the Highstyle's offices several times. Once, I was put on hold for, like, ever. The next time I called, there was, like, a Christmas party, and I couldn't be heard over all the noise. Sami and Nicole tried to find out, too.
Lucas: Ah, so what you're saying is you left it to your crack assistants to handle this, right? Well, no wonder. Why don't you just admit it? It doesn't matter who the management was at Highstyle. You were gonna oust them anyway. You saw an up-and-coming company. You saw your opportunity, and you took it. You didn't care about who you were hurting in the process.
Austin: Look, I wanted to do things differently, but time worked against me.
Lucas: All right.
Carrie: I thought I knew who you were, but I was wrong. I never knew you at all. And now I don't want to know you.
Austin: I understand. You're angry at me. And if I was in your shoes, I would be angry, too.
Carrie: I'm beyond angry.
Austin: I keep telling you, if I had the slightest idea that Highstyle was yours, I never would have gone ahead with the takeover.
Carrie: Forget me. Even if it was some other company, Austin, what you did would have been just as cruel and just as ruthless. But now I see that's how you operate.
Lucas: Carrie's right, Austin. You're only being remorseful right now because you don't want to lose her. What about everything that Highstyle has lost? All their employees. They lost everything. Did you think about that when you were looting their company? Man, you're heartless. I know you've changed, but have you really changed this much?
Carrie: I guess the answer's yes.
Lucas: I guess he's become one of those corporate raiders he used to detest so much. One of those cold-blooded businessmen who makes their money off the suffering of others. Only this time, the one who's suffering...is the woman you supposedly love. Well, you just stabbed her in the back, and you keep twisting that knife, don't you?
Austin: That is not who I am. I never meant to hurt you. Carrie, please --
Carrie: I am so disgusted with you. How could you do this to me? To anyone?
Chelsea: Why would Billie confess to something that she didn't do?
Patrick: Well, that's what I want to know.
Chelsea: Look, she's not the martyr type, okay? She wouldn't say that she killed Zach unless she really did.
Patrick: Yeah, but I don't buy the story she told the cops. There are too many holes in it.
Chelsea: What holes?
Patrick: Well, Billie uses the Titan car service, okay, so if her car wouldn't start that night, why wouldn't she just pick up a phone and call them? And if she was running late for our date, why wouldn't she call me? I would have picked her up in 10 minutes. And when was the last time she ever borrowed somebody's car without permission? Why would she do that? Now, look, I understand that you're upset. I'm upset, too. Your little brother died, and that's tragic.
Chelsea: So, what do you think is going on then if you don't think Billie was driving?
Patrick: Maybe she's covering for someone.
Chelsea: So you don't think that it was her driving the car? You think it was someone else driving Bo's car?
Patrick: It's the only thing that makes sense to me.
Chelsea: Well, who do you think she's covering for?
Patrick: That's what I'm gonna ask Billie.
Chelsea: You think she'd tell you something different than what she told the police?
Patrick: Well, your mother and I have gotten pretty close.
Patrick: So...I can read her pretty well. If she lies to me, I'll be able to tell.
Roman: Billie, listen to me. Their son was killed. Don't you think that Zach's mother deserves to know what really happened?
Roman: [Sighs] I promised Bo that I would keep the truth to myself for the time being. That's the only way I could get him to talk to me. I promised I would listen as a brother, not as a cop.
Billie: You and Bo are probably the most ethical guys on the force. And I respect that. I really do. But Chelsea is Bo's and my daughter. Neither one of us wants to see her go to jail. I feel horrible for what happened to Zach, but do you really think that Chelsea deserves to go to jail for what was an accident?
Roman: I think you need to let a jury decide that.
Billie: No, Roman! Because you know what will happen. Given her record, it'll ruin her life.
Roman: Listen to me. Of course I don't want a young girl going to prison, but I don't want you going to prison, either, especially for something you didn't do.
Billie: I can handle it. Chelsea canít. And there's something else you haven't thought of.
Roman: What's that?
Billie: If Bo tells Hope the truth, it's not just Chelsea's life that will be ruined. Hope will never forgive him for signing that temporary-license paper and lending his car to her, because if he hadn't done that, Zach would still be alive. Not to mention the fact that Bo is taking his time in telling Hope that he misled her. What do you think is gonna happen to their marriage if Hope finds out the truth?
Roman: You tell me.
Billie: It will be over.
Roman: Billie, Bo and Hope... have been through a lot of rough times over the years. They weathered a lot of rough seas. Oh, and I admit, and I agree with you. This is more difficult than I can even imagine, but one way or another, Hope is gonna find out the truth, and the sooner the better, because I'll tell you why. Their marriage doesn't stand a chance in hell of surviving if Bo continues to live a lie.
Hope: I just don't understand. How could Billie be so reckless? How could she hit a little boy and not stop?
Bo: Hope...I wish we could change what happened, but we canít. I don't know why Zach was in the street that late at night. And as hard as it is to accept, this was an accident.
Hope: Like hell it was. I mean it. So help me God, don't you dare try to tell me our son's death was an accident. There is no way to justify what happened to him as anything but cold-blooded murder. I hate her! I hate her for taking away my baby!
Frankie: You don't have to say that. I know you want me to leave. It's okay.
Jennifer: No, you're not hearing me. You're not hearing me. I don't want you to leave. I want you to stay. I need you here. My children need you.
Frankie: Are you sure? Are you sure that's what you want?
Jennifer: I don't know. I don't know if I can do this all alone. Losing Jack was my greatest fear, and he's not coming back. And I need my best friend here to help me through this, and that is you. And I promise you, I am not gonna send you mixed signals because I value our friendship.
Frankie: I hear you.
Jennifer: And Jack was everything to me, and I was never unfaithful to him, and I will not be, even though he is no longer here.
Jennifer: Okay. Then you'll stay?
Frankie: For as long as you need me.
Carrie: I still cannot believe that you did this to me, but you did. And I can't believe that my company is gone. Highstyle meant the world to me. And the people that worked there -- they were my friends as well as my employees, and they trusted me. How am I supposed to face them knowing that I've let them down?
Austin: Carrie, I am sorry. I will make it up to you.
Austin: I don't know. But I will find a way. That's a promise.
Sami: Um...Carrie, I feel so bad about this, and I apologize for my part in what's happened. I wish I could have talked Austin and Nicole out of this takeover.
Nicole: Oh, please.
Sami: It's true. I was trying to talk them out of it before I even knew that it was your company. And then when I found out...it was just a shock. I mean, I had no idea.
Austin: None of us did.
Sami: And it's not just about you losing Highstyle, Carrie. Look, I guess what's worse is what this is doing to you and Austin. I mean, it seemed like you two were really getting close.
Carrie: I let my guard down, and this is what happens.
Austin: Listen to me --
Austin: How many times do I have to tell you? I never meant to hurt you. You have to know that.
Carrie: I trusted you, Austin. But I will never make that mistake again. I hate the man that you've become. And maybe this is who you always were, and I was too blinded by love to see it.
Sami: [Thinking] Well, it looks like Carrie has Lucas' shoulder to cry on. And she's definitely not gonna get back together with Austin after this. It's only a matter of time before he's all mine.
Chelsea: [Thinking] I won't go to jail. I canít. If Billie's willing to take the blame for me, then I'm gonna let her. [Sniffles] She's always talking about how we should make up for lost years, and this is how she can do it. She's my mother. Mothers are supposed to protect their kids. I just have to pray that everybody who knows the truth keeps their mouth shut. And then Patrick never finds out what really happened.
[Knock on door]
Roman: Come in.
Officer: Commander Brady, are you finished, sir?
Roman: Yeah, yeah. Go ahead.
Billie: What are you doing here?
Patrick: I read the story about your confession. What the hell do you think you're doing?
Billie: Let it go, Patrick.
Patrick: You told the police you killed Zach Brady. I know you didn't do it.
Billie: I did. I took Bo's car. My car broke down when I got back to Salem.
Patrick: Fine, fine. Then why didn't you call me? I would have picked you up.
Billie: Believe me, I wish I had, Patrick, then none of this would ever have happened.
Patrick: Listen to me. You need a lawyer before you say anything more.
Roman: He's right, Billie.
Billie: I don't need a lawyer.
Patrick: Don't be ridiculous. Of course you do.
Billie: Patrick, I am not trying to run away from this. I'm guilty. I want to hurry up and get my punishment over with. And that way maybe Bo and Hope can try and put this tragedy behind them.
Patrick: No, no. There's something more you're not telling me.
Billie: If you care about me, you'll drop it. Please, Patrick. Thank you for coming down here, but there's nothing you can do. And don't look so sad. I'll be all right. I love you.
Patrick: I love you, too.
Roman: All right, Billie, come on. I'll walk you down to booking.
Patrick: I'm sorry, Billie. I'm gonna get to the bottom of this.
Bo: Hope...you're gonna have to let go of this anger that you feel.
Hope: No, I canít.
Bo: I know how empty you feel inside. I feel the same way. But we can't let that emptiness be filled with hate. It won't make us feel any better.
Hope: Nothing will make me feel any better. My son is gone... forever.
Bo: I know, Fancy Face. I know. But our son would want us to move on. We need to get our strength from each other. Zach...wouldn't want his death to tear us apart. Now, you haven't eaten in forever, so I'm gonna go find you something, okay?
Zach: Mommy, mommy. Mommy. I love you.
Hope: Baby. Oh, Zach. Oh, baby, I love you. [Sniffles] I love you, Zach. I'll always love you, baby.
Patrick: Why is Billie taking the blame for Zach when you and I both know she's innocent?
Kate: If you won't tell the truth, I will.
Bo: There's something I got to tell you. Something you need to know.
Nicole: Before long, your sorry ass is gonna be out on the unemployment line.
Sami: Oh, you don't even know what you're talking about.
Lucas: The question is -- now that you've seen him for who he really is, can you give him up?
