[Pop dance music plays]

Austin: Come on. Let's go.

Carrie: Where are you taking me?

Austin: To the roof.

Carrie: I was hoping you'd say that.

[Door closes]

Lucas: Hey. Did you just see that?

Eugenia: See what?

Lucas: Sami just went out the fire escape.

Eugenia: Is there a fire?

Lucas: No, there's not a fire. She probably went to check on Carrie and Austin. They're on the rooftop.

Eugenia: Lucas, who cares what Sami does?

Lucas: I know. I know. You're right. You're right. I'll let her make a jackass out of herself.

Eugenia: If Sami and I were friends, I would tell her not to sweat it because Austin doesn't stand a chance with Carrie. Because the minute that she finds out that he's taken over her company [Snorts] He's dead meat.

Lucas: Yeah, right you are, my wise friend.

Eugenia: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: Finally my big brother's gonna be a big loser, and I'm gonna have Carrie all to myself. Okay! Let it go!

Eugenia: [Laughing] Go, Lucas! Go, Lucas!

[Dance music continues in distance]

Nicole: This is so Sami. I work my butt off for this company, and she has a party and doesn't invite me? [Sighs] If she thinks she's gonna get Austin, she's in for the shock of her life.

Austin: To you, Carrie. May all your dreams come true in the New Year.

Carrie: One of them already has -- you and I together after all this time. There's no place that I would rather be and no one I'd rather be with, Austin.

Alex: Hey! Is anybody in there?! [Sighs] I need to talk to somebody!

Officer: Hold it down!

Alex: Don't tell me to hold it down! Marlena Evans' life is in danger.

Officer: So you keep saying.

Alex: And it's the truth! I talked to her on the telephone. There's a psychopath in her penthouse with her. You've got to get somebody over there now!

[Monitor beeping rapidly]

Philip: Lexie, it's the heart monitor. What's happening?

Lexie: The tracing is normal again, but there was arrhythmia.

Philip: Arrhythmia -- what is that?

Lexie: Philip, she's fighting for her life. It's putting a strain on her heart.

Philip: Lexie, tell me the truth right now -- tell me. Is this the beginning of the end for her?

Kate: You're doing the right thing. If Philip found out that Shawn is Claire's father, it would destroy him. Thank you. Thank you for promising --

Victor: Don't thank me. I only said I wouldn't tell him now.

Kate: [Sighs]

Mimi: [Exhales sharply]

Shawn D.: Mimi Lockhart... will you marry me?

Mimi: [Exhales sharply] Oh!

Shawn D.: A-a good answer would be yes.

Hope: We're so blessed. We have two wonderful sons who are healthy and happy, thank God. And now you've got your daughter back.

Bo: These are blessings I do not take for granted.

Bo: What are you doing?

Hope: Looking for some change for the pay phone. I want to call Mrs. Morrison and make sure that she remembered that Zach likes the night-light at night.

Bo: You just called her a few minutes ago. You'd think this was Zach's first sleep over.

Hope: [Sighs] I don't know what's gotten into me.

Bo: I do. You're upset about what Philip and Belle are going through, so it's natural for us to think about our own kids. But Zach, you know, he's been over at the Morrisons' hundreds of times. They love him. Besides, it's late. You don't want to wake everybody up.

Hope: [Exhales deeply] You're probably right.

Bo: Yeah. Hope... you don't have anything to worry about.

Zach: Kitty. Kitty. Kitty. Kitty. Kitty. Kitty. Kitty?

[Loud rock music plays]

[Cat meowing]

Zach: Kitty. Kitty.

[Rock music continues]

[Vehicle approaches]

Chelsea: What the hell was that? Oh, my God. Aah!

[Cat meowing]

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.

Victor: Look at them. Bo and Hope are Claire's grandparents, and they don't even know it.

Kate: Oh, my God. They can't know it.

Victor: You're playing God, Kate. It's not right.

Kate: I'm not playing God. You made me a promise, and I'm just holding you to it.

Shawn D.: Uh, okay. All right. This -- this wasn't the reaction I was looking for.

Mimi: No. I'm sorry. I'm just -- I'm just -- I-I-I --

Shawn D.: No. No. Don't worry about it. This is obviously -- it's too soon. If you don't want to do that, it's okay.

Mimi: No. No, it's not that. It's so not that. I mean, of course I want to marry you. Yes.

Shawn D.: Oh, you do?

Mimi: Yes. I just -- I'm just in a lot of shock right now.

Shawn D.: Shock? Um, like a good kind of shock?

Mimi: Yeah, like the kind that I want to shout from the rooftops.

Shawn D.: Okay. Baby, you know what? I don't think we should do that. I think -- I think for now we should probably make this our little secret.

[Monitor beeping]

Lexie: [Sighs] Claire is failing. The two of you have to prepare yourselves. Her condition is steadily deteriorating.

Belle: [Sniffles]

Lexie: Listen. Uh, as your doctor... and -- and as your friend, I really do believe the time has come for you to sign the papers to remove Claire from life support.

Philip: [Breathing heavily] Belle?

Belle: No. [Sniffles] I'm not signing anything. We're gonna find a donor. Lexie, I know I'm asking for a miracle... but I know there's gonna be one.

Sami: [Exhales deeply] Oh, God, that was close. [Thinking] Enjoy your little stroll down memory lane... because the world is gonna come crashing down on you tomorrow.

Austin: This is strange, right? I mean being up here -- the two of us.

Carrie: It feels nice. It brings back lots of memories.

Austin: Yeah. For me, too.

Carrie: I cannot believe that you did this.

Austin: Well, you know, I just wanted us to celebrate the New Year like we used to -- like old times.

Carrie: It's beautiful.

...Go another day

so I'm telling you exactly what is on my mind

seems like everybody's breaking up and throwing their love away

but I know I got a good thing right here

that's why I say

nobody gonna love me better

I'm gonna stick with you forever

nobody gonna take me higher

I'm gonna stick with you

you know how to appreciate me

I'm gonna stick with you, my baby

nobody ever made me...

Carrie: Those were special times.

I don't want to go another day...

Austin: Wonderful times. You want to dance? Let's dance.

...What is on my mind

see the way we ride in our private lives

ain't nobody gettin' in between...

Austin: Apart from my new company, I haven't been very excited about the New Year.

Carrie: My work's been seeing me through, too.

Nobody gonna love me better...

Austin: But being here with you now feels like a good omen. I think this is gonna be a very good year for both of us.

You know how to appreciate me

I'm gonna stick with you, my baby

nobody ever made me feel this way

Sami: [Thinking] The New Year's not gonna be quite as fantastic as you think.

Lucas: Here. You and me -- another toast.

Eugenia: Yeah. I'll drink to that -- whatever it is. Mmm. What are we drinking to?

Lucas: To my big brother. He doesn't know it yet, but he's about to lose Carrie to me.

Eugenia: Right. It's very generous of him. To Austin!

Lucas: Yep.

Nicole: Well, well, well. Isn't this festive?

Lucas: It is. A little late, aren't you, Nicole?

Nicole: For what -- the party my roomie didn't invite me to?

Lucas: Ooh. What's the matter -- Sami didn't tell you?

Eugenia: Maybe she forgot.

Nicole: Yeah. Sami only forgets what she wants to forget. What else is new? This is so typical. Everyone gets to party hardy while I do the heavy lifting. I don't think so.. Austin better have a damn good reason why he didn't tell me about this.

Lucas: What do you care? I thought you hated us all.

Nicole: If I drank enough of this stuff, I don't care who I party with. So, where is Austin, anyway?

Lucas: Actually, he's up on the roof.

Nicole: With Sami?

Lucas: No. With Carrie.

Eugenia: And it looks like those two are getting mighty cozy again.

Lucas: Indeed.

Nicole: Oh, no, no, no. This is not gonna happen. Neither one of the Brady sisters is gonna get Austin.

[Liquid pouring]

Marlena: [Exhales sharply] [Sighs] [Breathing heavily]

[Dialing] Hi, this is Marlena Evans. I'm checking on Claire Kiriakis. How is she? Oh, dear. Uh, c-could I speak to John Black? I'm sure he's there somewhere. No, I'll wait.. I'll wait.

John: John Black.

Marlena: John, it's Marlena. I just had a terrible dream about the baby, and then I called the hospital, and the nurse said she wasn't doing so well.

John: Yeah, things aren't looking good.

Marlena: I'll come right over.

John: No, that's not a good idea. It's late.

Marlena: Belle must be wondering where I am. I need to be there for her.

John: No, you've had enough stress for one night. Look, if I felt there was something you could do, I'd have you come down here, but there isn't, so why don't you just try to get some rest?

Marlena: Well, I feel terrible not being there, but I'm -- I'm so glad you are. John, um, maybe I shouldn't tell you this at this point, but Alex called from jail.

John: Oh! Who the hell let him make that call?

Marlena: Well, I guess he does get one call, and he wanted to make sure that I was all right.

John: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I'm sure. Listen, don't worry. I'll call the station. I'll have him muzzled. Nobody's gonna hurt you again.

Marlena: No, don't worry. He would never hurt me. He wouldn’t.

John: What are you talking about? He already has. The man is sick.

Marlena: John, I don't believe that.

John: I guess you don't believe Dr. Banks, either, or those photographs you saw that were taken after you were beaten?

Marlena: But I don't think he did that.

John: Yeah. Well, all the same, I'm gonna call the station. I just need to know that you're safe.

Marlena: No, John, that's not necessary.

John: Yeah. Well, listen, back to Belle -- I'm gonna stick it out here at the hospital with her and the baby. If there is any change, I'll give you a call.

Marlena: All right. Please do.

John: Try to get some rest, okay?

Marlena: I will. John, tell Belle that I love her and I'm thinking about her and I'm praying for both of them. Thanks.

Nurse: Detective Brady?

Bo: Yeah?

Nurse: There's a call for you. You can use the house phone over here.

Bo: Okay. Thank you. It's probably the station.

Hope: Okay. Bo's right. Everything's gonna be fine.

Bo: Brady.

Chelsea: Dad, something terrible has happened. I need you right away.

Bo: Chelsea, are you all right?

Chelsea: Yeah, I'm fine. It's the car. Um, you better come look for yourself.

Bo: Did you have an accident?

Chelsea: No, not exactly. Um, I don't -- I don't really know what happened. Um, the car -- the car not's running right.

Bo: Where are you?

Chelsea: I'm at the corner of Park and Elm.

Bo: Well, that's not far from here.

Chelsea: Dad, it wasn't my fault, I swear.

Bo: You just sit tight. I'll -- I'll be right there.

Hope: Bo, what is it? What's wrong?

Bo: That was, uh, Chelsea. She needs a lift.

Hope: Oh. Hey, I know it's an inconvenience having to drive her everywhere, but I'm really glad she's not behind the wheel of a car tonight. The last thing we need is for her to have another accident, right?

Bo: Yeah.

Chelsea: There is one other huge favor I need to ask you, though -- just a little one.

Bo: [Sighs] All right. I'm sitting down.

Chelsea: Can I borrow your car tonight?

Bo: What?!

Chelsea: Just so I don't have to depend on Max or anyone else.

Bo: Hey, I won't be long. Love you.

Hope: Uh, love you, too.

Shawn D.: So, thank you for being so understanding about why we should keep it a secret. Okay, I just think that we shouldn't be telling people that we're getting engaged because Claire, you know, is so sick.

Mimi: You're right. We should not be flaunting our happiness.

Shawn D.: Yeah. You're sure? You're good?

Mimi: Oh, yeah, 'cause when we tell people, I want them to be as happy as we are, so we'll wait.

Shawn D.: Okay. Yeah. I'm sorry I didn't choose the most romantic setting. You know, in a hospital.

Mimi: No, it's beautiful.

Shawn D.: Yeah. Yeah. I-I just didn't want to wait any longer. With everything going on, it's made me realize how fragile life is, and I just want to be with you, baby. I don't want to wait.

Mimi: Oh! I want to be with you.

Belle: You'll never know, dear, how much I love you please don't take my sunshine away.

[Exhales sharply]

Philip: We can't let her suffer.

Belle: She's not suffering. Look at her. She's sleeping peacefully. [Sniffles] And I don't care what the doctors say. She's my daughter, and I'm not giving up on her, and you shouldn't, either.

Philip: [Sighs]

Shawn D.: Belle's right. You shouldn't give up.

John: Yeah, I'm listening.

Tek: Alex North claims Marlena's in grave danger.

John: Well, not anymore, now that he's in jail.

Tek: You don't understand. He insists that the Banks woman is the real threat to Marlena. He's pretty worked up, John.

John: Oh, come on, Tek. You know the guy will say anything to save his own butt.

Tek: He's pleading for one of us to go over to your place to make sure Marlena's okay. He seems genuinely worried.

John: I'll tell you what. If you believe that, why don't you vote for him at the academy awards? I called Marlena. She's fine. On the other hand, north is a psychopath. Because he's a psychopath, I want you to throw his butt in maximum for the night. You got that?

Tek: You're the boss. Maximum security it is.

Alex: What is taking them so long? If they don't do something to protect Marlena, her death is gonna be on their hands.

Lucas: You might want to slow down a little bit, Nicole.

Nicole: Why? I'm just trying to catch up with your friend "Eugenia."

Eugenia: Ha ha. Can I help it if I like my bubbly?

Nicole: Apparently not. You know, I'm surprised Sami invited the two of you.

Eugenia: [Hiccups]

Nicole: Where is Sami, anyway?

Sami, fami, bo bami

bonana --

Lucas: She is on the rooftop trying to break up Carrie and Austin.

Nicole: Good. Maybe she'll fall off. Anyway, I am ready to celebrate.

Lucas: Oh, really?

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: What are you celebrating?

Nicole: Our success -- Austin and moi.

Lucas: What kind of success?

Nicole: [Chuckles] Wouldn't you like to know?

Lucas: Actually I'm just making conversation.

Nicole: Okay, well, maybe I can clue you in just a teensy bit. You see.... I have closed a deal.

Lucas: Hmm.

Nicole: A potential blockbuster -- one that you and Victor would love to have pulled off, except Austin and I ended up on top this time.

Lucas: Really?

Nicole: Mm-hmm. And once Austin finds out that I put this baby to bed, he is gonna be very, very grateful.

Lucas: Whoa. Look out. Sounds to me like you expect to be properly thanked.

Nicole: Well, why shouldn't I? I did a hell of a job. This is a big deal, Lucas. Come on. Help me spell it out. B-I-G.

Lucas: [Chuckles] That big, huh?

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: Well, it must be some kind of acquisition of some sort. You taking over a company? I wonder what the C.E.O. will feel about that? I wonder if he'll put up a fight.

Nicole: It's not a he. It's a she -- some dippy woman who came out of nowhere. Doesn't know what she's doing. But when Austin and I take over, she'll be out on her derričre tout de suite.

Lucas: [Chuckles] That's French, right? I don't have my French dictionary -- I'm sorry.

Nicole: It's okay. I'll help you translate. It means this poor CEO won't know what hit her.

Lucas: Wow. Sounds like somebody's in for a real big surprise.

Carrie: Want some more bubbly?

Austin: Yeah.

Carrie: Oh! When I heard that you were living with Sami and Nicole, I couldn't believe it.

Austin: Strange -- a little strange.

Carrie: More than a little.

Austin: It made sense at the beginning. I needed a place to live, and she had an extra room. But I am moving out real soon. Now that my company's taken off, we're gonna need more workspace -- living and workspace.

Carrie: But you're planning on staying in Salem?

Austin: I'm putting down roots. So, are you gonna move back?

Carrie: Afraid not. Uh, at least not anytime soon. With my company on the West Coast --

Austin: You're really into it.

Carrie: Running my own company gives me a lot of satisfaction. That's not to say that I wouldn't want to settle down someday.

Sami: [Thinking] Wouldn't we all? But it's not gonna with you and Austin. That much I do know.

Austin: Yeah, I know what you mean. Work is important. But it's not enough.

Carrie: At the end of the day, it would be nice to have someone special waiting for you. Plus, I'd love to have children. Of course, first I have to find the right man.

Austin: And you thought that was Mike?

Carrie: I loved Mike. I thought things would work out for us.

Austin: But they didn’t.

Carrie: He's a great guy. We're just not compatible.

Austin: I'm sorry.

Carrie: Are you? Really?

Austin: No. [Chuckles] You know, I feel bad for Mike. He lost an incredible woman.

Carrie: That's nice of you to say.

Austin: I mean it.

Carrie: Well, next time I fall in love, I-I want it to last.

Austin: I want that for you, too.

Carrie: [Chuckles] What about you?

Austin: I want that for me. [Chuckles] A wife, family. As corny as it is, I think that's what life's all about. I'm -- I'm a sucker for kids. I still haven't gotten over finding out that Will's not my own son. What a dummy. I'm sorry to bring that -- I'm really sorry about all the pain that Sami's caused you. But I am glad that you're back.

Carrie: So am I.

Austin: You're the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen.

Sami: Hold it, um, you two. [Exhales deeply]

Alex: I don't believe this. After everything I have just told you, you are not going to send someone over to Marlena's to check things out?! Her life is in grave danger!

Tek: Look, put him in maximum security. Keep him locked down for the night -- no phone calls, no visitors.

Officer: Yes, sir.

Alex: What are you talking about -- maximum security, huh? Come on, Tek!

Tek: Look, I got to go. Can you handle it?

Officer: No problem.

Alex: Tek, you can't leave! You've got to get someone over there now!

Officer: Come on. You heard the Detective. We're gonna make sure you behave. Uhh!

Bo: Chelsea?

Chelsea: Dad?

Bo: Hey.

Chelsea: Oh, thank God you're here.

Bo: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey. It's okay. It's okay. It's all right. Tell me what happened.

Chelsea: Um, I was driving, and then I hit something back there, and then I ran over the curb. I wasn't speeding. I swear to God, I wasn't going over the speed limit. [Sniffles] But now the car's not steering right, and I don't know what happened. [Crying] I don't know.. I don't know.

Bo: It's all right. You did the right thing by calling me.

Chelsea: [Sniffles] I just -- it's not okay, though. I mean, I damaged your car, and who knows how much it's gonna cost to fix it? And if I lose my license --

Bo: Take it easy. Take it easy.

Chelsea: I need your help, dad.

Hope: John, I am so sorry. My heart goes out to Belle and Philip.

John: I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Hope: That innocent, little baby -- I just can't believe they're gonna lose her. I refuse to believe it.

John: Yeah, so do I. But, realistically, things aren't going our way.

Hope: Is there anything at all I can do?

John: We'll take your prayers.

Hope: Those you already have.

John: Yeah. I wish I had belle's faith. But Dr. Carver feels that things are hopeless at this point.

Hope: I'm with Belle. Sometimes we have to put our faith in a higher power, and this is one of those times.

John: Hey. What else is bothering you?

Hope: [Sighs]

John: Hmm?

Hope: Zach's having a sleep over, and I feel like I really need to be with him.

John: Yeah.

Hope: Could you do me a favor? Could you tell bo that I went to pick him up and I'll see him at home?

John: Of course I will.

Hope: Thank you. I won't stop praying with you and your family, John.

John: Yeah.

Victor: I don't like this, Kate. Bo and Hope should be here for their granddaughter.

[Monitor beeping]

Philip: I'm trying to do the right thing here, Shawn. I am Claire's father, and I have to --

Belle: Shawn is Claire's Godfather, and he loves her, too, and I want to hear what he has to say. Lexie thinks that we should take the baby off of life support. What do you think? [Groans] Man.

Tek: Brace yourself, John. Alex North escaped.

Sami: Oh. God.

Austin: Is something wrong?

Sami: No.

Carrie: Why'd you come up here?

Sami: I was just looking for you two.

Austin: How come?

Sami: Well, because, you know, we're having a party downstairs for our company and it's kind of lame without the guest of honor.

Carrie: Why'd you come up the fire escape?

Sami: Well, I was actually out on the fire escape taking a break from my guests. And, anyway, I heard your voices, so I thought I'd come up here and talk you both into re-joining the party.

Carrie: Well, we were talking, catching up.

Sami: Oh, my God, it is freezing out here, isn't it?

Carrie: Actually, it is a little chilly.

Austin: I'm sorry.

Sami: You know what? It's a lot warmer down in my apartment. Um, so -- but if you're having fun up here...

Austin: We're just remembering old times.

Carrie: We made a lot of happy memories up here.

Sami: Oh. Well, it's the New Year -- a time for new memories. And I have to go back to my apartment before I catch pneumonia. So, are you staying or going with me?

Austin: It's up to you.

Carrie: Yeah. I guess we should go back.

Austin: Okay.

Carrie: Okay.

Sami: [Exhales deeply] Well, it's not gonna be long now, sis, before Austin is nothing but a memory to you.

Nicole: Now, don't go blabbing to the Wall Street Journal, Lucas, okay, but this out-to-lunch C.E.O. is in for a big shock. She's gonna wake up tomorrow morning and find that this company is no longer hers. And my boss -- he's gonna wake up a big wiener. Mmm. This is good.

Lucas: Well, how did you, uh, keep this takeover such a secret, Nicole?

Nicole: It's called "flying under the radar."

Lucas: Ooh. Nice. I'm impressed.

Nicole: I impress myself.

Lucas: Well, here's to you.

Nicole: Ooh.

Lucas: And to Austin's big surprise tomorrow.

Austin: What's that you said, Lucas?

Nicole: Well, my roommates have returned. Thanks for telling me about this, uh, party.

Sami: Yeah, well, it was sort of a last-minute thing.

Nicole: So, let me guess -- you lost my address?

Austin: No. I just found out about it, too. I'm sorry.

Nicole: You should be.

Austin: So, Lucas, what were you guys talking about? You said something about a surprise?

Sami: Yeah. Lucas, what were you talking about?

Alex: Marlena! Marlena, it's Alex. Are you all right?

[Doorknob rattling]

John: Oh, God, no.

Sami: So, Lucas, what's your big surprise?

Lucas: I don't know. Uh, Nicole, you tell me. You said this was gonna be Austin's year. I guess he's gonna surprise us all, right?

Nicole: Austin, relax. While you were making nice-nice with Carrie, I was dotting all the I's and crossing all the T's for the takeover. And guess what? Highstyle is ours. Yep. You can thank me later.

Austin: [Chuckles]

Sami: So, it seems like you and Austin are getting closer.

Carrie: Are you sure you don't have a problem with that?

Sami: Of course not. You're my sister. I want you to be happy. And you deserve it.

Lucas: I'm starting to get a little worried. I don't want Carrie to be hurt.

Eugenia: But?

Lucas: But I got to do what I got to do. I care about her. And if Austin lets her down...

Eugenia: You'll be there to catch her?

Lucas: I'm better for Carrie than Austin is. She's gonna figure that out all by herself.

Shawn D.: If there's any chance at all -- no matter how small -- you have to cling to it.

Belle: So you don't think --

Shawn D.: Miracles happen. As long as she's not in any pain, just keep her on the life support. I-I think that's what I would do.

Philip: I don't know what to do. All I know is that I don't want her to suffer. But right now... the four of us will wait... and pray for her. [Inhales sharply] We're going to wait, Lexie.

Lexie: That's your decision.

Kate: [Sighs] This is pure torture. Everyone is in so much pain. You can't -- you can't make it worse by telling them the truth. [Sighs]

John: North! Freeze!

Alex: No! I've got to get to Marlena before it's too late!

John: Damn it, North! You stop, or I'll shoot!

Alex: Aah! [Groans]

Marlena: [Gasps]

Bo: Hey, Chelsea, I checked out the car.

Chelsea: It's not awful?

Bo: No, it's not awful. The front end's probably out of alignment. It's not a major fix.

Chelsea: What about my license? If it lose it again --

Bo: Whoa, whoa. You're not gonna lose your license over this.

Chelsea: I'm so lucky to have you as my dad.

Bo: Hey, come here. It's gonna be okay.

Chelsea: [Sniffles]

Hope: What is that? Oh, my God. Zach. Zach! Oh, my God. Zach.

John: You've got nothing more to fear. Alex North is dead.

Chelsea: It's the cops. Dad, what am I gonna do?!

Kate: I need to talk to you.

Philip: Now is not the best time, Mom.

Kate: You need to prepare yourself because I have some pretty devastating news.

Shawn D.: You can't go.

Hope: Oh, my God! I can't lose him! I can't lose my baby!
