["Up on the rooftop" plays]

[Bell ringing]

Sami: Wow. Oh, I have just found my Christmas present. Can't find that in Salem.

[Ringing intensifies] Hey, hey, buddy. How about you do a little less of the bell and a little more, you know, "ho ho ho"?

Man: I'm not passing out toys, lady. I'm collecting money.

Sami: Look, I understand it's for a good cause, but come on, everyone's going deaf.

[Ringing stops]

Man: I tell you what. I'll go on a coffee break if you'll make a donation.

Sami: Deal.

Lucas: I don't believe it. If Norman Rockwell was alive today, can you imagine the picture he'd paint? The caption would read, "selfless Sami Brady gives to others on Christmas Eve." What a joke.

Nicole: [Groans]

Austin: Nicole, wake up.

Nicole: Ow.

Austin: Wake up.

Nicole: What time is it?

Austin: It's late. We got in last night, and I didn't want to wake you.

Nicole: Did you have a good time with Sami?

Austin: [Strained] Yeah, I did.

Nicole: Sorry.

Austin: [Coughs]

Nicole: Yeah, well, I hope you were thinking about me while I was alone in the hotel fighting off the minibar.

Austin: Well, I take it... you lost.

Nicole: Yeah. Ow. Now I have a nasty hangover.

Austin: Nicole, you're a brilliant woman, and I'm proud to have you as a business partner... as a friend -- as a friend, as a brother of an alcoholic, as a son of an addict, I think you'd be a lot happier if you didn't drink anymore. End of preaching. I'm not gonna say any more.

Nicole: Thank you. But while you were out having a good time with Sami, I was here slaving away.

Austin: Which is why... I got you this.

Nicole: [Sarcastically] Whoa, for me?

Austin: For you. You see? I do care.

Nicole: Yeah. Wow, gee, thanks. It's almost like having been there.

Austin: I'm sorry that I left you to deal with everything. You know what? I admit if you hadn't pulled Giles aside and talked to him after I did, I may have lost the Highstyle account for us.

Nicole: Mm.

Austin: So what did you say? What did you do? How did you get it back for us?

Nicole: Well, I told him that your track record spoke for itself. And that my job was to intervene every time your heart was getting soft...and to harden it up again.

[Thud] Ow!

Austin: You put it that way? You okay?

Nicole: Yeah. Ow. [Snorts] Yeah. But I walked him out to his car, and by the time we got there, I had him all softened up.

Austin: You didnít.

Nicole: Didn't what?

Austin: You didn't get into his car.

Nicole: That is disgusting. I can't believe you'd think I'd do something like that. Okay, well, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. So...everything's in order? What?

Nicole: Mm. Absolutely. All you have to do is sign the dotted line, and Highstyle's ours.

Carrie: Oh.

Becky: Good morning, sunshine.

Carrie: Hi, Becky. This looks great. You did a fabulous job.

Becky: Thank you, thank you. Carrie, the staff is so excited about the party today.

Carrie: They deserve it. Everyone's worked so hard.

Becky: I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... some more late notices from the bank.

Carrie: [Sighs] I don't want to open them. Not today. We'll deal with these next week. Once our orders go out, our cash-flow problems will be solved, and we'll be back on track. Let's just focus on the holidays and our loved ones. Okay.

Becky: So...since he's in town, is there any chance of you guys spending the holiday together?

["Deck the Halls" plays]

Josh: Be right back. Hi.

Abby: Hi.

Josh: I left like 10 messages on your cell. You okay?

Abby: Yeah. Look, um, I'm sorry I didn't call you back. It's just I didn't feel like talking or seeing anyone.

Josh: I'm so sorry, Abby. Is there anything I can do?

Max: I don't know what you're so down about. I thought traffic court went pretty well.

Chelsea: Oh, yeah. I have to take driving lessons before I can get my license back.

Max: You could have lost your license for a year.

Chelsea: Well, at least I've had an excuse for not going to the community service they gave me -- no transportation.

Max: You could take the bus or have your parents or your friends drive you. That's three different options.

Chelsea: Okay, I don't take the bus, I wouldn't impose on my friends, and I wouldn't ask my parents to take me, especially Bo. He wouldn't even lift a finger to help me.

Max: Bo's worried about you. So am I. I'll take you to the community service if that makes you feel better.

Chelsea: No way. I am not doing it.

Max: You have to. You have no choice. They've given you a court order.

Chelsea: Oh, really? Well, here's what you can do with that court order.

Max: You know what? Don't make it worse on you. All right? If you defy the courts, you could end up in jail.

Chelsea: I don't care. At least that way I would never have to see my traitor father again.

Bo: This is not what we should be doing just before Christmas.

Hope: Oh, God, I know.

Bo: After Chelsea's accident last night, what Jen and the kids are going through, that could have been us.

Hope: But it isnít. Thank God.

Bo: Yeah.

Hope: [Exhales deeply] Whew, it's cold.

Bo: Chelsea said she didn't want to talk to me ever again. She may make good on that threat, knowing how damn stubborn she is.

Hope: You're in church, Brady.

Bo: I don't want to miss any more time with my daughter. I should have been there for her at traffic court.

Hope: She needs time to cool off. She will.

Bo: [Sighs deeply]

Hope: She cares about you. And deep down, I'm sure she knows that you're doing this because of how much you love her.

Bo: [Inhales deeply] Well, I'm glad I was able to get hold of Billie, convince her not to come home. I mean, if she saw Chelsea with all those bandages, banged up the way she is, it's just better if she gives it some time.

Hope: Well, you know what? Chelsea's got three parents who love her. And the whole Horton/Brady/Roberts family to support her,'s going to be okay. Believe that.

Lexie: Are you okay? What are you thinking about?

Abe: I was just thinking about Jack. I remember when we were on the island he -- he was so concerned about leaving Jennifer and the kids. And then to finally come home and find out he has an incurable disease, knowing that it couldn't be reversed.

Lexie: Yeah, he did everything he could to make sure Jennifer was taken care of after he was gone.

Abe: Financially?

Lexie: Yeah, but, um, that's not what I'm talking about. He, uh... well, I mean, he took steps to make sure that she was cared for emotionally, too.

Frankie: [Inhales deeply] Hey.

Mickey: Hi, Frankie.

Frankie: Mickey, hi, listen, I appreciate you seeing me before the service.

Mickey: You sounded rather serious.

Frankie: Well, it is.

Maggie: Our little Jack's taking a little nap, but he's all dressed for the service.

Frankie: Oh, good. Hey, buddy. Maggie, how's Jen doing?

Jennifer: I'm fine. I have to be. It's what Jack would have wanted.

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.

Josh: I tried to get off of work for the memorial service. Unfortunately, I'm crew manager, and we're slammed for the holidays. What am I saying? Forget this place. I'll quit if I have to. You know, I can make money selling my classic hummus. You know, you need me. I'm totally here for you.

Max: Don't call my brother a traitor.

Chelsea: Then why wouldn't he help me? He just left my lying there in my hospital bed.

Max: Because you asked him to go!

Chelsea: That's because I knew he wanted to! [Sniffles] I lost everything, Max. My car, my house, my parents I grew up with, the person that I thought I was because my whole life turned out to be a lie. And, yeah, I know that I have two great new parents who love me, but I asked Bo to do one thing for me, Max, one thing. And it would have been so easy for him to do it. But the last time I asked him to do anything for me, we both heard about it from Hope. He's never gonna lift a finger to help me ever again.

Max: Chelsea, Hope cares about you, too, all right? And don't tell me that's what this is all about.

Chelsea: Can you imagine if this had happened to Shawn? They'd both be doing everything they could to make life easier for him.

Max: You're wrong.

Abe: W-what do you mean that he took care of Jennifer emotionally?

Lexie: He, uh, found someone to replace him.

Abe: Frankie Brady.

Lexie: You got it.

Jennifer: I'm fine -- I mean, as fine as I could possibly be today.

Maggie: Oh, sweetheart, just know that we are all here for you.

Mickey: I think we, uh, should get to the church.

Jennifer: Yeah.

Maggie: Where is Abby? I didn't see her upstairs.

Jennifer: She went to visit a friend. She's gonna meet us there.

Maggie: Okay.

Mickey: Frankie, could you get the door, please? I'm gonna put this sleepy boy in the car seat.

Maggie: And I'm gonna get the diaper bag for you.

Jennifer: Thank you, aunt Maggie, so much.

Frankie: You got it?

Maggie: My pleasure. Yeah. Thank you.

Frankie: Meet you at the church.

Jennifer: Frankie... listen, I know that you're leaving today, but I was wondering -- would you be able to ride with me to the church? That would mean so much.

Frankie: Sure.

Jennifer: Thanks.

Frankie: Yeah.

[Bell ringing]

Sami: I cannot believe we are in the second largest city in America and I run into you again.

Lucas: Well, I'm just about to go see the woman I went to the concert with.

Sami: Look, why won't you tell me who she is, and why didn't you stop when I called to you at the concert last night?

Lucas: "A," it's none of your business who I'm seeing, and, "B," I didn't stop because I don't want to talk to you -- not then or now. So goodbye, Sami.

Sami: [Scoffs]

Man: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. What about your donation? Thanks. Merry Christmas. Time for my coffee break.

Sami: Oh, my God, oh, my God. I donated a $100 bill, and I'm practically broke. Oh, my God. This is all Lucas' fault.

Austin: Before I sign anything, I need a cup of coffee to wake up.

Nicole: So I guess you and Sami had a great time at the concert.

Austin: It was a great concert, amazing time. Except...

Nicole: What?

Austin: ...I saw a ghost from my past.

Carrie: No, I will not be spending Christmas with Austin. I will be spending it with myself, in front of my TV, probably watching that channel 9 Yule Log. And if it's over 90 degrees, I'll probably take a walk on the beach.

Becky: Carrie, that's terrible. I thought you said you wanted to spend the holidays with your loved ones, and since you're still in love with your ex --

Carrie: Look, all I meant earlier was that I want my employees to enjoy the holiday without worrying that they're gonna lose their jobs in the new year. I know things don't look great around here, but we'll persevere.

Becky: I'm with you on that. I really think we'll get through this. But if you're insisting that your employees enjoy the holiday -- are you listening?

Carrie: Yes.

Becky: Then this employee over here is insisting that you follow your own advice and call the guy.

Chelsea: Give me a break, Max. Shawn Brady literally drove his motorcycle through a window at St. Luke's church while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. And he's still driving!

Max: He lost his license for a while, and he's still doing community service. Sounds kind of like what's happening to you.

Chelsea: Oh, please. I did not hurt anybody, and I was not drinking. Hasn't Shawn been in like three accidents this year? He should so be in jail. Like Bo and Hope didn't pull a few strings for their precious little boy.

Max: Why don't we call your brother and ask him? Hmm?

Chelsea: First you side with Bo, now you're siding with Shawn. You're just a real Brady fan, aren't you?

Max: You're a Brady. I'm on your side, Chelsea.

Chelsea: Then why don't you start acting like it?

Abby: Josh, that was really sweet of you to do, but don't sacrifice your job. Besides, the memorial service is for close family only.

Josh: Are you sure?

Abby: Yeah.

Josh: You gonna be okay?

Abby: I'll be fine. This is the third time I've gone through losing my dad.

Josh: Except this time, it's for real.

Abby: I know. Look, um, I have to go. I have to go to the church.

Josh: Abby... I'm here if you need me.

Hope: Good morning, Julie.

Doug: There you are.

Hope: Morning, daddy.

Doug: Sweetheart. Hey, Bo. Have you talked to Jennifer yet?

Hope: Oh, I talked to her. She -- what can I say? I mean, she's hanging in there.

Maggie: Jennifer, do you want me to take the baby to the nursery for you?

Jennifer: No. No, it's okay. I'll do it. I really can't stand to let him out of my sight.

Maggie: I understand.

Frankie: Mickey.

Mickey: Hmm?

Frankie: Could I talk to you?

Mickey: Of course. I'm sorry we got interrupted earlier. What is it?

Frankie: I'm leaving Salem.

Doug: I wish more of Jennifer's family could have come.

Hope: I know, but with the holidays and on such short notice, they couldn't get flights.

Jennifer: It's okay. It's all right, I have family and friends right here. Thank you -- all of you -- for being here.

Maggie: Well, Alice has finished talking to Father Jansen, so we should probably take our seats.

Jennifer: Right, um, I'm gonna wait here for Abby if all of you want to go inside.

Maggie: Okay.

Hope: I'll stay with her.

Bo: Want me to take your coat?

Hope: Yeah, thank you.

Jennifer: Thank you.

Hope: Sweetie. How are you doing, huh?

Jennifer: [Exhales deeply]

Abby: Sorry I'm late, mom.

Jennifer: That's all right, honey. It's okay. We just got here. Everyone else is inside. Come on.

Jennifer: Oh, Gram. I don't know what I would do without you.

Fr. Jansen: We are here today to say goodbye to a father, a husband, a nephew, and, to everyone in this room, a friend.

Sami: Oh, my God. I cannot believe that I donated my last $100 bill. I mean, that's all that I had budgeted for this trip. [Sighs] I know it's a good charity, but... okay, there's only one thing left to do.

Lucas: Oh, my God. Of all the horrible, unconscionable things you've ever done, Sami, this has got to top them all.

Nicole: [Sighs] A ghost from your past, huh? Who?

Austin: Okay, I'm at the stones concert, I'm in the audience, I look up at the jumbotron, and I see someone that I recognize. And then later I saw them in the crowd -- at least, I thought I did.

Nicole: You gonna tell me who this person is?

Austin: Carrie Brady.

Carrie: It's not going to happen, Becky. I told you I am not ready to let Austin know that I'm back in the States. There would be too many questions.

Becky: So when do you think you'll be ready?

Carrie: Maybe never.

Becky: Carrie, are you going loco or something, or are you just a coward?

Frankie: Listen, I'm sorry to abandon you and the firm. I know how busy we've been.

Mickey: You're damn right we've been busy. You can't leave now, Frankie. I need you. Besides, I was -- I was hoping that you would, uh, eventually become my partner.

Frankie: Really?

Mickey: Mm-hmm.

Frankie: Well, thank you, Mickey, I appreciate it, but --

Mickey: Why are you leaving?

Frankie: It's what Jen wants. You know what? It looks like the service is starting. We'd better run in.

Julie: "He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

Bo: I'll be right back.

Hope: You okay?

Bo: Yeah, I'm a little worried about Chelsea. I'll give her a call.

Hope: Good idea.

Julie: "My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

Abby: Where are grandma Jo and Vern?

Jennifer: They were really upset, honey, and grandma Jo wasn't feeling well, so Vern took her to the rectory.

Abe: Whenever I was around Jack, [Laughs] I would think to myself, "thank God he didn't choose a life of crime because I don't think I ever would have caught him." [Light laughter] Jack was a man before his time, and he was a man who understood life and lived it to its fullest. He was also...a man who was aware of its limits. When he found out he was sick, Jack didn't just curl up and die. He fought back by getting his affairs in order. He knew that he could never be at peace, he could never enjoy his heavenly reward unless Jennifer and Abby and Jack Jr. were taken care of. You were very, very fortunate to have him, Jennifer.

Jennifer: [Sniffles] I know. Thank you, Abe.

Abe: And Abby, [Chuckles] I have hoped you'd carry his sense of humor with you. It'll help you over a lot of bumpy roads in life. Okay? I hope you're nodding "yes," 'cause I can't see you.

Abby: Yes, I'm nodding.

Abe: Good. All right. Well, now they're going to play one of Jack's favorite hymns.

Amazing grace

how sweet the sound

that saved

a wretch

like me

I once was lost

but now am found

was blind

but now I see

'twas grace that taught

my heart to fear

And grace

my fears

how precious did...

Alice: You're going to be okay, Jennifer. I promise you.

...The hour I first...

Bo: Come on, Chelsea. Where are you?

Sami: Lucas, it's not what it looks like, okay? I donated a $100 bill instead of a $1 bill.

Lucas: Ah, and now you got your hand in there trying to get it back, huh?

Sami: Well, you're damn right I'm trying to get it back.

Lucas: Looks pretty tacky if you ask me, not to mention illegal.

Sami: Lucas, I don't have a choice, okay? I need the money. I wanted to buy Will a Christmas present.

Lucas: I actually already took care of that. I got him a great skateboard down in Venice. It's gonna be perfect.

Sami: That doesn't help me, now does it? What about those flowers? Are they for your date from last night?

Lucas: [Clears throat] Well, a gentleman never tells. I actually have to go now, but I wish you luck. Maybe you could strike a deal with Santa. Offer him 50 bucks, he might even give you 50 back.

Sami: No. No way.

Lucas: Well, in that case, I hope his reindeer eat you for lunch.

Sami: Lucas, wait a second. Lucas, come back.

Man: Lady, what the hell are you doing?

Sami: Um, I-I can explain. Ow!

Austin: [Exhales deeply]

Nicole: Austin, uh, I think you did see a ghost, 'cause the last I heard, Carrie was in Israel with Mike.

Austin: Yeah, that's what I thought, too, but...oh. I'm losing it. Yeah, you're right. You're right. No, okay, maybe it was just my imagination. Carrie always liked the Stones, and, yeah, I admit I've been thinking a lot about her. Hey, all right, that's enough. That's enough. I'm gonna go get dressed, and then we're gonna peruse these contracts.

Nicole: Okay.

Austin: Excuse me.

Nicole: [Sighs] [Thinking] Carrie Brady... if she was back in the country, what would she be doing in Los Angeles, and why wouldn't anyone know about it?

Carrie: I'm not a coward. I just can't go chasing after Austin right now.. The only love in my life can be this company right now.

Becky: Why?

Carrie: Because...I don't have time for anything else. And if I was to get in another relationship, I would want to do it the right way -- the same way that I want to do this job, which I haven't had for very long and which takes up all of my attention for now.

Becky: Okay, you make a point, but a lot of people have successful careers and marriages and kids all at the same time.

Carrie: True, but for me, I just want everything to settle down before I make a commitment to start a family. What's the point in having children if you don't have any time to spend with them?

Becky: Yeah, that all sounds beautiful. What you really need is for the right man to come walking through the door, so if not Austin, why not his brother? Don't look at me like that because you're always telling me that your biological clock is ticking, so tick, tock, sweetheart.

Carrie: You...

Lucas: Carrie. Becky.

Becky: Hi.

Lucas: Hi. [Clears throat] Um, Merry Christmas.

Carrie: Thank you, Lucas. They're beautiful.

Man: You know something, lady? I've worked some pretty rough streets over the years during the holidays. I mean, I've had street gangs walk by me, and they never tried to steal.

Sami: It's not what you think!

Man: I don't have to think anything. I can see you standing there with your hand in the cookie jar.

Sami: Yeah, but I donated too much --

Man: Aah, I'm going for the cops.

Sami: Wait, you can't do --

[Grunting] $1? Bah, humbug.

Becky: Well, I've got a lot of things to do, so I'll leave you two alone.. Oh, I don't know if Carrie told you about the party today --

Carrie: Oh, I'll tell him. Go on. [Chuckles nervously] I had a great time yesterday. The Stones were awesome. I can't believe you got the tickets the day of the concert.

Lucas: Well, thank God Titan was able to pull some strings for us.

Carrie: Well, I had a great time.

Lucas: So did I. I actually have some errands I gotta run, so, um, I guess I'll talk to you later.

Carrie: Yeah, I hope you can come by our party when you're finished.

Lucas: I would love to. Thanks. I guess I'll see you in awhile.

Carrie: Yeah. Thanks for the flowers.

Lucas: You're welcome.

Carrie: [Exhales deeply] Lucas and I are just friends.

Becky: Are you sure that's the way Lucas feels about it?

Carrie: [Exhales deeply]

["The first noel" plays] Oh, thank you, Becky. That's nice. Happy Holidays, Austin.

Austin: Everything seems to be in order.

Nicole: Yeah. All you have to do is sign the dotted line and Highstyle is basically ours.

Austin: Before I do that, I want to call the CEO.

Max: I'm gonna go inside, Chelse.

Chelsea: No, wait.

Max: You need to work this out with your father.

Bo: How'd it go in court?

Chelsea: They threw the book at me.

Bo: What'd you get?

Chelsea: Well, not only did they revoke my license, but they gave me 20 million hours of community service, but then you already knew that they were gonna do that, didn't you?

Bo: Yeah, I did.

Chelsea: That's okay. It's good for me, right?

Bo: Yes, Chelsea, it is.

Chelsea: You know, I used to think that Billie was a horrible parent...but you're 10 times worse because you pretend like you have a clue and you act like you care about me and then the minute I start to trust you, you turn your back on me.

Bo: Come on, Chelsea. I'm here for you.

Chelsea: That's great. I really don't care. I am here for Abby. And you know what? I don't care if I ever see you again. I don't want to have anything to do with you. You can never, ever be a father to me.

Fr. Jansen: Friends and family, that concludes our service. May God be with you.

Jennifer: Listen, sweetie, I'm gonna stay here for a little bit and pray, okay?

Abby: Okay. I'll give you some privacy. We're gonna get through this, mom. We Deveraux ladies are tough.

Jennifer: You bet we are.

Abby: Chelse? What happened to you?

Chelsea: [Sighs] I'll tell you about it later.

Abby: Okay, well, I'm gonna go get Jack Jr. from the nursery.

Chelsea: Great, I'll come with you.

Bo: Whew.

Hope: I know she didn't mean what she said.

Bo: Uh, not so sure about that.

Hope: Hey, give it some time. I guarantee you she'll come around, Bo.

Bo: Won't hold my breath.

Hope: Look, that car meant her independence. She wants to believe that she can take care of herself because she's not so sure she can count on anyone else, and it's up to us to show her that she can.

Bo: That's exactly what I'm trying to do.

Hope: Chelsea's grieving today. You know how close she is to Abby. And Jack's death has to bring back an awful lot of painful memories.

Bo: I wish there was something I could do for her.

Hope: Just don't give in because you're trying so hard to make peace.

Bo: I wonít.

Hope: You know what? Maybe spending Christmas with our families will make her see just how lucky she is.

Julie: Uncle Mickey, do you think Jennifer's ready to leave now?

Mickey: No, let's just give her some time.

Lexie: Honey, would you give me a moment, please?

Abe: Sure.

Lexie: Frankie... at first I didn't think Jack was wise asking you to look after Jennifer, but now I see he knew exactly what he was doing.

Frankie: Thank you.

Lexie: Come on.

Jennifer: [Sniffles]

John: What do you got for me? Please tell me it's enough to nail North to the wall 'cause I've got to get him out of my wife's life once and for all.

Carrie: I'm going back to Salem for the holidays. I want to see Austin.

Frankie: Come on, Bo, why do you think it's never worked out for me and any other woman? I never got over her.

Bo: Frankie, that's obvious.

Hope: You're afraid because deep down, you could have feelings for Frankie?
