Jack: Look, I would do anything. I would do anything I could to make that true. I would do anything to take away the pain right now.

Jennifer: Why didn't you tell me sooner? When I think that you have been going through this whole thing all alone, why didn't you tell me?

Jack: It was wrong. It was wrong, believe me. I just couldn't stand the thought of putting you and Abigail through this long, drawn-out death watch.

Jennifer: My gosh -- Abigail. Abigail -- how are we gonna tell her?

Sami: Ooh, sorry.

Nicole: I'm not.

Sami: [Breathing heavily] Aah! [Grunts] Damn it! Nicole, would you just get out of here? Austin and I have plans that do not include you.

Nicole: Oh, really? Then why did he take off without you?

Sami: Because you forced your way into my apartment, and you were throwing yourself at him.

Nicole: I didn't throw myself at him. I invited him to dinner.

Sami: And he obviously wasn't interested, but you wouldn't let it go. If I were him, I would run from you, too.

Nicole: Uh, hello? As I recall, he invited both of us to join him for dinner. Yeah, and then you had to have your little hissy fit, and all he wanted to do was get away from you.

Sami: You are so pathetic. You don't even know that he is just being nice 'cause he feels sorry for you.

Nicole: Oh, I'm pathetic? Sami, just a couple of days ago you were getting married to Lucas. Now you're going after his brother? When are you gonna give it up? I am talking! Okay, Lucas and Austin want nothing to do with you anymore. They would never take your sorry ass back, and they never want anything to do with you romantically ever again.

[Upbeat music plays]

Austin: So, how are the tips here? I mean, you do good?

Lucas: Not bad.

Austin: I saw you talking to Victor. So what did he want?

Lucas: Why do you got to play games with me, huh?

Austin: What are you talking about?

Lucas: You knew he offered me that job already 'cause you already turned it down.

Austin: He told you?

Lucas: I know what you're up to, man, and you're not getting away with it.

John: [Sighs]

Kate: John, you shouldn't be doing this.

John: North's first mistake was messing with me. This time he's gone too far. I'm gonna stop that son of a bitch dead in his tracks.

Kate: If you burst in there and attack him, it's just going to have a negative effect on her. He's her doctor. She trusts him.

John: He's manipulating her. He controls her every thought. He is the reason she asked me for the divorce, but that's not gonna happen, because as of tonight, he is out of here. Marlena?

[Door closes]

John: Marlena?! Where are you?

Kate: I don't think there's anyone here, John.

John: That's because he's taken off with her.

Alex: Is everything all right, Marlena?

Marlena: Everything's fine.

Alex: Are you sure? You've barely touched your dinner. Now, if it's not to your liking, we can send it back.

Marlena: No, it's -- it's -- no, it's fine. It's just...

Alex: Just what?

Marlena: I don't seem to have a lot of appetite right now.

Alex: Mmm. Obviously, something is troubling you. Now, why don't you tell me what it is?

Marlena: I'm wondering if I made a mistake...asking John for a divorce.

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.

John: Hey, Charlie. Good to see you. Is there a problem?

Charlie: Sorry, Mr. Black. I saw you come in.

John: So?

Charlie: Dr. Evans left word that you're not to be here unescorted.

John: She actually said that? Well, Charlie, look, I'm a little bit worried about my wife. As you might have noticed, she hasn't been acting herself lately. She's, um, she's very ill, so it's important you tell me where Dr. North took her.

Charlie: I overheard Dr. North say he was taking her to that fancy new restaurant Chez Rouge for dinner.

John: Chez Rouge. Thank you, Charlie. I appreciate it.

Charlie: Hope Dr. Evans is all right.

John: Yeah, yeah, you and me both. Have a good night. Can you believe this?

Kate: You know, it's probably just an innocent dinner.

John: [Scoffs] Yeah.

Kate: And now where are you going?

John: We're going to that fancy french restaurant. Come on.

[Door opens]

Alex: Marlena, you're having second thoughts about the divorce? You said....that is what you wanted.

Marlena: I know. I know I did, but now I'm thinking that...I may be making a terrible mistake.

Alex: And why would you think that?

Marlena: I don't know. It's a feeling. I can't even explain it to you.

Alex: But you felt very strongly that John was interfering with your recovery. Now, don't you want to get better?

Marlena: I do. I do. I just think I'm being a little hasty. John clearly cares about me, and I think he loves me very deeply. So I -- I don't know, he's so eager to have me remember him and our life together. Remember the birthday gift he gave me?

Alex: The photo album.

Marlena: Right. There were so many pictures over the years of us together, and we were -- oh, we were so clearly happy and in love. I don't know. I just think I should take some time to make sure.

Alex: But you said that you were sure when you asked John for the divorce. You said that you never felt more sure of anything.

Marlena: Now I'm not sure again. Look, in my condition, I'm not sure I should make any kind of decisions like this. I don't -- I don't even know why I asked John for the divorce. It just...doesn't make any sense to me.

Alex: Marlena, surely you haven't forgotten why you asked John for the divorce. I mean, you explained your reasons for that decision, both to me and to him, and you were very clear, very definite.

Marlena: I know. Sometimes I just -- I think I get a little confused. But I do know that John really cares about me. And I...I think I should wait till I get my memory back before I make any kind of an important decision like this.

Alex: Well, of course that is up to you, but usually I will counsel my patients to trust their initial gut instincts. That first impulse, especially the one you don't quite understand -- well, that is telling me it's coming somewhere deep inside of you -- the real you. Now, we are going to find that person, Marlena. I promise you that. And by listening to what she is trying to tell may very well hold the key.

Marlena: I'm going to the powder room. You'll have to excuse me.

Alex: Listen, I know this is all very confusing to you. I tell you what. Why don't I order you a nice cup of chamomile tea to help soothe your nerves? It'll be waiting for you when you come back.

Marlena: Thank you. Oh, thank you. Thank you.

Alex: [Inhales sharply] You're not making this very easy, my dear. It's time I got you back with the program. And this should do the trick.

Austin: I'm not up to anything. Yeah, I turned down Victor's job offer, but what difference does it make? I'm glad he gave it to you. You know, I would think you'd be thrilled.. What are you so pissed off about?

Lucas: Nothing, man, forget it. Don't worry about it.

Austin: What? Because he offered it to me first?

Lucas: You know what? I am sick of your hand-me-downs. You got that?

Austin: Will you stop? It's not a hand-me-down.

Lucas: It is too a hand-me-down. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of your rejects and your castoffs. Whatever you want to call it, man, I'm tired of it. For once I'd like something to come to me first, not you.

Austin: You're being ridiculous.

Lucas: Yeah?

Austin: Yeah, you're being ridiculous. The old man wouldn't have offered it to you if he didn't want you for the job. You're gonna do great.

Lucas: That's right. You're right about that. I am gonna do great. I don't even care that I was second choice. I'm gonna do better than you ever could. I'm gonna run that company 10 times better than you.

Austin: Dude, where is this coming from? You know, we're brothers, remember? There's no competition. We're on the same side.

Lucas: Really? Could have fooled me.

Austin: Wait a minute. [Chuckles] Man, it's got nothing to do with the job. It's got everything to do with Sami.

Sami: Austin is my friend, and I would never have been able to get through this nightmare if it weren't for him. But I swear to you, Nicole, Lucas and I are gonna get back together. It is just a matter of time.

Nicole: Whoa, whoa, Sami. In your dreams. Lucas is never gonna take you back after what you did to him. You were Stan. You were the most evil person in the world, next to Tony dimera. You almost got Lucas killed, along with his two brothers, Shawn, and Brady. You were on your way to death row until somehow you got off on some lame technicality.

Sami: It wasn't lame. Thankfully, Austin managed to convince everyone that I didn't do anything wrong. He is the only one who would believe in me. I mean, no one else would.

Nicole: Because Austin is a good person, and he tries to see the good in everyone, but, frankly, he deserves better than you.

Sami: Oh, my God! We are just friends. I love Lucas.

Nicole: Right, and you would do anything to get him back. But there's no way, Sami. You have no chance, and now you're trying to make a play on Austin. Please, Sami, you had your chance with him, and you blew it. Why don't you just move on and leave him alone?

Sami: Listen to me, Nicole. I am not making a play for Austin. Lucas and I are going to be together. And, frankly, no matter what happens, I'm not gonna let Austin end up with a moneygrubbing slut like you. I won't let you hurt him.

Nicole: Oh, I see. It is so obvious you are hedging your bets. Deep down you know that there is no chance with Lucas, so you're just keeping your options open with Austin. You know what? I am sorry, Sami. You don't deserve to be with either one of them.

Sami: Ah! I don't even know why I am wasting my time with you, Nicole. Austin is waiting for me. So why don't you go home because no one wants you here.

Nicole: Oh, yeah? You want to bet?

Sami: Aah! Damn it!

Jack: Believe me, I'm not looking forward to breaking this news to Abigail. This is exactly what I wanted to avoid.

Jennifer: We have to tell her, Jack. She has to know.

Jack: Now, yes, she has to know, of course.

Jennifer: God, I'm so thankful that Jack Jr. cannot understand any of this right now.

Jack: I'm gonna tell him, Jennifer. He's gonna know. I'm gonna make a video or something, just so he knows how much his father loved him.

Jennifer: That will mean a lot to him, Jack, but you won't be here for him. [ Voice breaking] He needs his dad.

Jack: Right. Every boy needs his father, and...well, someday, who knows, maybe if he's lucky, he'll have another one. I mean, not as good as me, of course.

Jennifer: What are you talking about? No one can ever replace you. How can you say that, Jack?

Jack: Well, I can't be so sure about that.

Jennifer: Well, I'm sure of it, and you ask your daughter. She'll agree with me.

Jack: Right. Right. Now I've got to tell Abigail to her face that I'm leaving her again, and this time for good.

Abby: What are you talking about?

Chelsea: Look, Abby, I hate to be a downer. It's just -- I thought everything was going so great for me, and then I lost my parents, or the people I thought were my parents.. Now I'm stuck with Bo and Billie.

Abby: Look, I'm sorry for everything you've been through, but what does that have to do with my mom and dad?

Chelsea: I'm just can't count on anything, ever. I found that out the hard way.

Abby: You can count on Bo and Billie, and I can count on my mom and dad, my family. Things are finally going good for us again. And they're only going to keep on getting better. You'll see.

Abby: Hey, mom.

Jennifer: Abigail, listen.

Jack: Abigail, how was your night?

Abby: It was awesome. We had this fund-raiser party at Alice's, and we got a ton of people to sign up for the "light the night" walk.

Chelsea: Abby did most of the work. I just found a few good men.

Abby: You two are gonna sign up, right?

Jack: Uh...yeah, I...

Jennifer: Yeah.

Jack: I guess, maybe. We'll see.

Abby: You'll see?

Jack: Look, we're...we're so proud of you. I just want you to know that we are so proud of what you're doing. I'm so proud.

Abby: Thanks, but what do you mean, "you'll see"?

Jennifer: You know, sweetie, your dad and I need to talk to you about something. Chelsea, would you mind giving us some time alone, please?

Chelsea: Sure. Um, I'll just be in the kitchen.

Jennifer: Okay, thank you.

Abby: So, um, what did I do? Am I in trouble? Did I do something wrong?

Jennifer: No, sweetie. You didn't do anything wrong. Um...just come sit down for a minute.

Abby: Okay, now you're really scaring me. Wh-what's going on?

Jack: Look, look, there's... there's no better way to do this than just to tell you. You're strong. You can handle this. I've been diagnosed with a very serious illness, and there's no cure.

Abby: N-no cure? Right, so you'll always have to be on medication or something. But you'll be all right.

Jack: No. I'm not gonna be okay. Abigail, it's a terminal illness. I'm gonna die.

Alex: It's time for your medicine, Marlena. This will make you forget all about John Black. Oh. Feeling better?

Marlena: Yes, a little, thank you.

Alex: There's your tea. Marlena, as your doctor, I think it's important that you keep your distance from John, at least for the time being. If the treatment is going to succeed at all, it is crucial that you not be distracted. More importantly, you need to feel safe...and at ease. Your husband, as you have made very clear, only upsets and confuses you.

Marlena: It doesn't seem right to turn my back on him completely, Alex. I know how that must feel to him. That must really hurt him.

John: Well, they're definitely here. There's Alex's car.

Kate: Are you gonna be okay?

John: I'm gonna do whatever it takes to get that freak away from her before he does any more damage.

Kate: Wait, John. If you burst in there right now and make a scene, Alex is just gonna take advantage of it. You know he has influence over her. You could end up losing her for good.

John: Okay, so what do you suggest that I do?

Kate: I'm glad you asked because...I do have an idea.

Alex: You're not drinking your tea, Marlena. It's gonna get cold.

Marlena: Oh, you know what? I don't feel like tea right now. Waiter, could you bring me some coffee instead?

Waiter: Of course.

Marlena: Thank you.

John: I need to find a way to get that guy away from her.

Alex: It appears that your soon-to-be ex-husband hasn't wasted any time moving on with Kate Roberts...again. And Roman is divorcing her. So I guess there's really nothing standing in the way of her and John finally being together, is there?

Lucas: Jealous, huh? Is that what you think?

Austin: I don't know. Are you?

Lucas: You know what, man? Sami is poison. She's poison. I want nothing to do with her, and neither should you after the way she burnt us both. I can't believe you're even talking to her, let alone shacking up at her apartment like you're doing.

Austin: Why does everyone keep saying that? I am not shacking up.

Lucas: Whatever. If you knew what was good for you, you'd stay away from her. She's nothing but trouble, all right?

Austin: I have no intentions of repeating my mistakes with her. I am just helping her through a tough time. That's all.

Lucas: Yeah, well, Sami can't be helped. If you knew what was good for you, you'd steer clear away from her completely.

Nicole: I agree with my ex-hubby on that one. Sami Brady is bad news.

Austin: Hi, Nicole. Where's Sami? The last time I saw you two, you were about to kill each other.

Nicole: Everything's fine. Sami just got a little...hung up. So I thought I'd come down here and buy you a drink and officially welcome you back to Salem.

Austin: Thank you.

Lucas: I don't know who's worse -- Sami or Nicole.

Nicole: Austin, um...I'm really happy you came back to Salem. I've missed you.

Austin: Thank you. It is nice to be back.

Nicole: So, what do you say we get a table and start celebrating?

Sami: Damn her.

Nicole: Thanks. Hi, Austin, you know, tell me exactly what you've been doing in New York. It has been so long, and, I mean, since Sami ripped your heart out, I thought I'd never see you again.

Sami: There's no way I'm gonna let you get away with this. Lucas, what the hell? Lucas! What are you doing here?

Lucas: I could ask you the same thing. Aren't you supposed to be in jail, huh?

Sami: Well, actually, all the charges were dropped, thanks to Austin.

Austin: I would rather not talk about Sami, if you don't mind.

Nicole: Well, that makes two of us. But, Austin, I was just so worried about you.

Austin: Why?

Nicole: Why? Because I know how badly you've been burned before, and now I see Sami getting her hooks in you again. Austin, please promise me that you're not gonna make the same mistake with her all over again.

Austin: Well, I do have to be honest with you, Nicole. My feelings towards Sami have changed.

Lucas: Austin? Austin, my brother, got them to drop the charges? I can't believe it. I can't believe it. He talked them into letting you go?

Sami: Oh, okay, look. You're not really angry at him, are you?

Lucas: I'm angry. I am. I'm furious! He turned his back on his brother, and he sided with you. That's not right.

Sami: I cannot believe that you feel this way. I am really grateful to Austin for what he has done, and I thought you would be, too.

Lucas: You know what I'd be grateful for? If he'd mind his own damn business. That's what I'd be grateful for. He's only been here a couple days, and now everything's a damn mess.

Abby: I-I can't believe it. I mean, isn't there anything that they can do?

Jack: No. There isn't anything anyone can do. I went through dozens of tests, second opinions, and there's nothing. It's just a matter of time.

Abby: No. You can't do this to us. We just got him back. We can't lose him again. [Sobbing] There has to be something that they can do. Mom, tell him.

Jennifer: I know. I don't believe it either, honey. I can't hardly stand it, and I know it's not fair.

Abby: How long have you two known?

Jennifer: Sweetie, I just found out. Your dad's only known --

Jack: Look, I didn't want to ruin everything. I didn't want -- the time that we have left, so I... I... look, I made a -- I made a point of putting it off. I didn't tell either of you.

Abby: When we danced at Brady and Chloe's wedding, you knew then, didn't you? You did that because you knew that you'd never be able to dance with me at my wedding.

Jack: Yes, I knew then.

Abby: But you promised that you'd always be here for us.

Jack: And I will. I will. I'll always be here for you. I'll always be protecting you, watching over you like -- like a guardian angel.

Abby: I don't want you as an angel. I want you here with us for real.

Jack: Look, Jennifer, listen.

Jennifer: Abby.

Abby: No, you lied. You promised me, and you lied.

Jack: Jennifer -- Abigail.

[Door slams]

Abby: [Sobbing]

Chelsea: Abby. What's wrong? Abby, what happened?

Abby: I have to get out of here, now. I never want to come back.

Sami: Look, Lucas. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I even mentioned Austin's name. I don't want to fight with you. Just tell me what you're doing here working at Alice's.

Lucas: It's a job, Sami. I need the money.

Not for long. He's already ditching us to go be a big mucky-muck for Victor Kiriakis.

Sami: You're gonna work for Victor?

Lucas: Yeah, I'm taking Brady's old job.

Sami: Brady's job! Oh, my God, Lucas. That is awesome! That is huge. We always dreamed of this happening. You know, you getting something like this.

Lucas: Yeah, only I thought I'd be sharing it with you. I guess that's not gonna happen, is it?

Sami: Lucas, I'm so happy for you. This is incredible. You are gonna do great.

Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, I'm finally turning my life around. Funny, it, uh, took leaving you for that to happen.

Nicole: Austin, let's go back a little. When you said your feelings for Sami have changed, changed how?

Austin: [Clears throat] Okay, well, you know how -- you know when I left her at the altar in Vegas? I was really hurt. I was really angry. I didn't think I could ever forgive her.

Nicole: And now you have.

Austin: Let's just say that I've had a little time to get over it, you know, get some perspective. And I know Sami can be her own worst enemy. She had some tough breaks. Made her insecure. She does stupid things, mainly out of desperation or fear out of losing someone she loves. Anyway, I am not condoning all she's done. I am just saying that...she really needs help.

Nicole: Well, that's very generous of you, Austin, but Sami is never gonna change. What she did to you was bad enough, but what she did to Lucas? That's lower than low. If you were smart, you would stay as far away from her as possible.

Austin: I thought we weren't gonna talk about Sami.

Nicole: You're right. [Chuckles] No more Sami, okay? Let's have some fun. How about a little game of 8-ball? That is...if you're up to the challenge.

Austin: Challenge? I could take you any day.

Nicole: Oh, yeah? Care to make a little wager on that one?

Austin: Oh, I never play for money.

Nicole: Who said I'm talking about money? Okay, here's the deal -- I win, you come home with me tonight, not Sami.

Alex: So, you see, you have no reason to feel guilty about John. By all outward appearances, he seems to be doing just fine. Tell you what. Why don't we dance?

Marlena: Oh, no, I don't --

Alex: Oh, please, please? I insist. It always lifts your spirits. Come on.

[Slow tempo music plays]

John: It's like they're on a date or something.

Kate: It appears that way.

John: He knows that I'm watching. Was. [Sighs] I can't see him anymore.. Come on, let's dance.

Kate: Hey, I just got my salad.

John: Hey, I came here to punch him out. It was your idea to fake this dinner. You're dancing with me. Come on.

Kate: Okay. Maybe you should ask her to dance. That way you'd have a little time alone.

John: Full of all kinds of ideas tonight, aren't you? Well, Marlena, Dr. North. What a surprise.

Alex: Well, good evening, Mr. Black, Ms. Roberts.

Kate: Good evening.

John: You okay, Marlena?

Marlena: I'm fine.

John: No hard feelings, right, Dr. North? So I suppose you wouldn't mind if I cut in?

Alex: Forgive me, Mr. Black, but it seems that you've already chosen a dance partner.

Kate: Oh, actually, I was the one who suggested that John ask Marlena to dance. I thought it might ease tensions.

John: So, what do you say, Marlena? One more time for old times' sake.

Marlena: If Alex doesn't mind.

Alex: Actually, I'm afraid I do mind. Marlena's much too nice to say this, but she was just telling me how tired she felt. We were just about to sit down, weren't we?

Marlena: Um, yes, um...I'm sorry. I did feel tired suddenly. Excuse me, I'm s-sorry.

Alex: Excuse us.

John: He acts like he owns her.

Kate: I have to admit, she does appear to be a bit under his thumb.

John: So what am I supposed to do? Just stand by? I mean, after all, she is my wife. And if North takes this any further... I'm gonna kill him.

Alex: Marlena, you really do look exhausted. I think we should leave. I'm gonna take you home and get you to bed.

Chelsea: Abby, what is it? Tell me what's wrong?

Abby: My dad is dying.

Chelsea: What?

Abby: He's got some terminal illness, and he's gonna die.

Chelsea: Oh, my God, Abby. I'm so sorry. I feel horrible about what I said before.

Abby: Donít. You said that we can never count on anything, and you're right. God keeps playing this sick joke on my family. He brings my dad back just to take him away again. Except now it's for good.

Chelsea: Do you know that for sure?

Abby: He said there's no hope.

Chelsea: Well, that's what they thought before, and you didn't believe it, and you were right.

Abby: But now it's really true. And before, I was just a kid. I believed in miracles.

Chelsea: Well, maybe that's what made it come true. Maybe if you believe like that again, then he'll be fine.

Abby: No. I think we've used up all our miracles. My dad is dying, and there's nothing that I can do to stop it.

Jennifer: We need to go after --

Jack: No, no, wait, wait. Just give Abigail some time. She just needs some time. She knows we're here. When she's ready, she'll come back.

Jennifer: Maybe we shouldn't have told her. Maybe it was a mistake. Maybe we shouldn't have said anything.

Jack: No, no, no. Look, once you knew, she was bound to find out. She would know that something was wrong. I mean, she'd have to deal with it one way or the other anyway. And she will. She will because she's strong. She's gonna get through this. Look, we are gonna get through this. We're all gonna get through it together.

Abby: [Sobbing]

Abby: I have to go.

Chelsea: Abby, come on. We should probably just go inside. Your parents are probably worried about you.

Abby: No, no. I just -- I have to get out of here.

Chelsea: Where do you want to go?

Abby: Anywhere. Let's just get in your car and go. Come on.

Jennifer: Jack, you say that we're gonna get through this, and I donít know how. Gosh, I-I-I need you so much. Our children need you. And one day very soon you are not going to be here, and I Donít -- I Donít know how to handle that again.

Jack: You can, and you will. I'm gonna make sure of it.

Jennifer: What are you talking about? How can you make sure of it?

Jack: It is gonna be different this time. Trust me. It will be different this time for you and for Abigail and for Jack Jr. Everything's gonna be all right. Everything is gonna be all right.

Nicole: Ooh. You remember our bet, right? I win, you come home with me tonight.

Austin: Well, let's just see how the evening goes.

Nicole: Sounds good to me.

Austin: Okay, but no matter what, I'm still gonna be there for Sami. I'm about the only friend she has right now, and, you know, call me crazy, but I would really like to help her get her life together because if she doesn't, I hate to think what could happen to her.

Nicole: I wonder if Sami has any idea how lucky she is to have a friend like you.

Austin: I'm your friend, too.

Nicole: Maybe that's why I'm feeling so lucky.

Austin: [Laughs]

Nicole: Okay. Yes! I am on a roll. Get ready to pack your bags, baby.

Austin: Not so fast, baby. Game ain't over yet.

Nicole: Well, I got plenty of time. In fact, I've got all night.

Lucas: Guess you got some competition there, huh? Or maybe my brother isn't as dumb as he looks, even though it is just Nicole.

Marlena: Alex, I'm fine. I'm not that tired.

Alex: Just the same, I think we should go home. We have a lot to cover in therapy tomorrow. It's important that you have enough rest.

Marlena: All right, fine.

Alex: Oh. One minute. Thank you.... for having dinner with me.

Marlena: I wasn't very good company. I'm a bit out of sorts.

Alex: It's all right. Let's go home. I have the perfect thing to make you feel better.

John: Will you excuse me?

Kate: Where are you going?

John: Make a scene. Marlena...I can't let you go.

Alex: Get your hand off her.

John: She's leaving with you over my cold, dead body.

Mimi: Are you ready to take the next step?

Philip: Sounds like Shawn and Mimi are having a pretty good time.

Belle: I guess.

Philip: What, you have a problem with that?

Belle: Yes, I do.

Alex: I can beat John at his own game. And I know exactly how to do it.

Nicole: Austin and I wind up together.

Sami: Over my dead body.
