Alex: I don't know. Dr. Carver can knock herself out trying to dig something up about my medical career. She won't find anything suspicious. No, I'm not worried and neither should you be. I'm on top of it. Well, if John Black thinks he's going to get me out of Marlena's life, he's sadly mistaken.

Marlena: Wow. You're up early.

John: Yeah, I got a lot on my mind. Hope you slept well.

Marlena: I did. Yeah, I did.

John: There's coffee over there if you like.

Marlena: Oh, thanks.

John: Finally.

Marlena: Hmm? What?

John: Just as I thought.

Marlena: Are you talking to me?

John: It seems our Dr. North isn't as forthcoming as we thought.

Marlena: I don't want to talk about it.

John: When you see what I got here, you'll be convinced, too. This man is no good.

Waitress: Can I help you?

Kate: Well, I better make it a double espresso this morning.

Waitress: Shall I bring it to your table?

Kate: No, that's okay. I'll wait for it. Roman.

Roman: Kate. Uh, can I get a large coffee, black, please.

Kate: I didn't expect to see you. Lucas asked me to meet him here today, so...

Roman: Well, Kate, you know what? I wouldn't get my hopes up 'cause I don't think Lucas is ever gonna forgive you for what you did to him and Sami. I'll see you later..

Roman: Sami. I'm afraid nobody's gonna be able to help you now.

Austin: Sami? [Gasps] God.

Sami: I didn't want to talk to you, either. Hmm. Thank you.

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.

Marlena: What are you doing, John?

John: Well, you're not gonna like this, but I've been checking a little deeper into Alex North's background.

Marlena: Oh, my gosh, you're right! I don't like it. If you're trying to discredit him, I'd like you to stop.

John: I just want to know the truth about the guy.

Marlena: The truth is he's helping me.

John: This is due diligence. You can object to that.

Marlena: You have an agenda.

John: You know, my only agenda is making sure that my wife gets the best medical treatment possible for her memory loss.

Marlena: Mm-hmm.

John: Now, look, I know that you don't remember our past together, but, come on, you've been around me and my family long enough to know that at least we had a past. And it was a good one. We were happy. We were in love, and our love created a beautiful daughter.

Marlena: Belle.

John: And now she has a daughter. And we've got a precious granddaughter -- one in which you helped bring into this world, so don't you ever tell me that, that past doesn't matter. Now, look, you may not remember Belle when she was a baby, but I saw the look in your eye when you held your grandchild. And don't tell me that you don't remember that.

Marlena: I do remember it. It was yesterday!

John: And the look that you had in your eye when you held that baby was the same look of love when Belle was born.

Marlena: Who wouldn't love and cherish holding a newborn?

John: Oh, come on, not just any newborn. We're talking about our grandchild here, Doc. Yours and mine.

Marlena: I know this is frustrating for you. I get that. I wish that I could help somehow, but you know what? What I've got to do now is focus on myself in order to heal. I know that sounds selfish to you, but it's the only way I will recover my past. And I got to think somewhere in you, I've got to think you can understand that.

John: You know I do. I'm here to help. That's why I'm checking deeper into Alex North's background.

Marlena: I don't know why you keep pursuing him.

John: Because I love you. Because I have serious doubts about the methods he is using to treat you.

Marlena: There is nothing wrong with his methods.

John: Then why isn't Alex helping you get better? Because I don't think he wants you to get better.

Marlena: [Gasps] That is a terrible thing to say, and you know that. Dr. Carver found him and brought him here. Remember, he is a preeminent psychiatrist, and he is a specialist and very effective in dealing with cases just like mine.

John: Yeah, I know. That's what we were told.

Marlena: Oh, and you no longer believe that. Is that right? Well, I'll tell you what. I believe it. And I have faith in this doctor. And whether you believe it or not, I think I'm making progress.

John: What progress? You tell me one thing he has helped you remember.

Marlena: I'm -- I --

John: I-I-I-I-I -- nothing concrete comes to mind, does it? 'Cause you don't remember anything.

Marlena: No. Not about my past.

John: Just a blank slate, right?

Marlena: Yes.

John: So where's all this progress you're talking about?

Marlena: What I'm trying to say is, no, not about my past. However, what I am trying to say is he has made me feel very comfortable in the present. And me, that counts for something with me. So as long as he is willing to stay here and help me, I want him here.

John: Even though there's something not right about him.

Marlena: Not right?

John: If is he such an eminent psychiatrist, why are you the first person he has treated in over 10 years?

Marlena: 10 years?

John: 10 years.

Marlena: I kn--I know that he hasn't practiced for a while. I guess I didn't realize it was 10 years.

John: Check it out. Look, come on. Come on. At least do that much for me.. Check it out.

Marlena: This is what has you so concerned? The Psychiatric Association of America Directory?

[Laughing] Are you kidding me? Psychiatrists are not required to check in with the association. They're not required to, ever. Some do and some donít.

John: And some are totally inactive, like Dr. North. Don't you find that strange? Look at that. Hasn't kept in contact with any of his colleagues for years, but yet when Lexie calls him, he drops everything, rushes to Salem to treat you.

Marlena: You know he was retired. He was retired. He's been doing research.

John: What kind of research? What resources? What institution? Come on. I don't see a sign of that anywhere, do you? Do you?

Marlena: Well, maybe he's writing a book. Or maybe he's just taking some time off.

John: I can see that you're gonna keep making excuses for him. The bottom line is I don't feel comfortable with him treating you.

Marlena: We've talked about this over and over, and you know what? It isn't your decision.

John: Marlena. I think you know by now there is nothing I wouldn't do for you. And I thought I was doing the right thing when I let Lexie bring into our lives, but the more that I see him and the more I do my research into his record, or should I say non-record, the more doubts I have about him.

Marlena: Well, I'm sorry about your doubts because I have absolute confidence in him and what he's doing.

John: This is so ironic. Here we are busting ourselves up to try to get your past back and we don't know a damn thing about his.

Alex: All you had to do was ask.

Kate: Mind if I join you? There aren't any other empty tables, Roman. Besides, I'm glad that you're here because I've been thinking about you.

Roman: Kate, this is not a good time.

Kate: It's going to be brief, okay? Just hear me out. I want you to know that what I did, I did because I had no choice. When I found out that Sami was Stan, there was no way I could keep that secret. She put my children at risk. Your son. Rex was involved with all of this, too. She led all of them straight into Tony DiMera's hands, Roman. It was a miracle that any of them got out alive, and you know that.

Roman: You're wasting your breath, Kate.

Kate: What are you talking about?

Roman: You're wasting your breath because I agree. You were right about Sami. And you did the right thing by turning her in.

Kate: Oh.

Lucas: You, uh, you got a lot of groceries there.

Sami: Thank you. Lucas, wait, please. Can we talk?

Lucas: About what?

Sami: About yesterday. I really think we could sit down and make sense of everything that happened.

Lucas: You know what, Sami? I don't think I'll ever be able to make sense of what happened. But you're right. We do have to talk. Will wants to live with me permanently. I told him I'd talk to you about it first. So, can we go in your apartment and discuss it, please? I don't want to stand out here in the hall.

Sami: Um, why don't we go to your place?

Lucas: I'd rather not.

Sami: How come?

Lucas: Because will's asleep. That's how come. He's been up most of the night, and he's worried, Sami. He's worried about you. That's why he can't sleep.

Sami: I'm sorry.

Lucas: You know how angry he is? He's angry at you, but he's also angry at himself. He told me. He told me he knew something was up. And he went to you, and you lied to him. You lied to his face, Sami, so why would I have you go in there and upset him even more? It's not gonna happen.

Sami: Look, I know, okay? I don't blame him. I understand that --

Lucas: We still are in the hallway. Please, can we go in and talk about this like --

Sami: Look, please just listen to me. I'm sorry, okay? I know I let you down, and I know I let Will down.

Lucas: I don't want to make a scene in the hallway. Either we're going into your apartment or we're not talking at all.

Sami: No, I just want to talk ab--

Austin: I thought I heard voices.

Marlena: You will have to excuse my husband. He has a very suspicious nature.

John: Ooh, don't make apologies for me. Dr. North made me an offer. I'm just gonna take him up on it. He said all I had to do is ask him about his past and he'd tell me, so what is it, Alex? Have you or have you not had a psychiatric practice in the last 10 years? And if so, where? Now, you give me a satisfactory answer, and I may feel better about you practicing on my wife.

Alex: I understand your concern, John, but it's just --

John: No buts about it. Either you do or you donít. If you do, what kind of psychiatric practice do you have, outside of Marlena that is? Because it strikes me kind of odd that there's no record that you have hung a shingle anywhere in the last 10 years. Now, for some reason, my wife's not too concerned about that. But I am.

Marlena: Alex, if it makes you uncomfortable, you don't need to answer this at all.

Alex: Well, I'm happy to answer. If you will allow me the use of your laptop?

John: Knock yourself out.

Alex: I've told you my practice isn't limited to only working one-on-one with amnesiacs. I spend a lot of my time doing research, as well as a lot of volunteer work. This is a secure website. Hopefully it will give you some idea as to the scope of my work. You've asked me about the past 10 years. Although this doesn't show everything, I did spend a considerable amount of that time working for Norad in Antarctica.

Marlena: Norad?

John: North American aerospace defense command. Antarctica -- doesn't work for me. What's that about?

Marlena: Yeah, I'd like to hear. It sounds fascinating. What have you been doing?

Alex: I was asked to conduct a test on personnel stationed there to learn more about the emotional effects of isolation and sunlight deprivation in the polar regions. Now this is another secure site. As you can see, I worked on this project for almost four years.. I was one of several psychiatrists asked to participate. Our objective was to learn more about the long-term psychological consequences of deep-tissue trauma. Specifically, subjects who had suffered severe injuries from traffic accidents.

John: Very impressive, doctor. Doesn't answer my question, because as you noted yourself, these are secure websites. None of those agencies will ever confirm or deny that this information is accurate.

Alex: I assure you it is. But you're just going to have to trust me. I also assure you that my only concern is to help Marlena recover.

Marlena: Thank you. And I believe in you. Oh, dear.

John: What is it?

Marlena: Oh. I've got an appointment. I don't want to be late.

Alex: Here. There you go.

Marlena: Thank you. Thank you.

John: Hey, easy. She's my wife. I'll take her.

Alex: Suit yourself.

John: By the way, North, I don't trust you. And I'm gonna do everything in my power to make Marlena see that you are the one that's standing in the way of her progress..

Alex: If John thinks I'm just going to sit by while he sabotages everything I've worked for, he's a bigger fool than what I thought. I've waited too long for this. It's time I separated Marlena from her husband, permanently. But in order to do that, I must first build a wall -- a wall so strong that not even John with all of his determination will be able to penetrate it. [Sighs] Poor devoted John. I almost feel sorry for you, old boy. Because once I have Marlena under my control, she'll be lost to you forever. And there's not a damn thing you can do to keep her from becoming mine.

Kate: Well, I can't believe what I'm hearing.

Roman: Kate, what my daughter did was unconscionable, but I also know that she wouldn't have gotten herself in that mess if she hadn't felt forced into it, and for that, Kate, I blame you.

Kate: I didn't force Sami into anything. She got into bed with Tony DiMera all by herself.

Roman: She didn't know until it was way too late that Tony was providing the Stan disguise, so she didn't get into bed with Tony, as you put it, knowingly. Just like she didn't get into bed with Brandon knowingly, either. Now, that little stunt you pulled, Kate, by putting them together -- Sami and Brandon in that motel room -- that's what put her over the edge. That's why she posed as Stan.

Kate: Ah. So you're blaming me.

Roman: For drugging my daughter and framing her, you're damn right I am. Now, Kate, I get it that you don't like Sami, but the fact that you wouldn't accept the fact that your son loved her -- you wanted to break them up, Kate, well, you did, and I sure as hell hope you're happy.

Kate: Sami and Lucas didn't belong together, Roman.

Roman: How in the hell do you know, Kate? How do you know what's right for everybody else when you don't have a damn clue what's right for you? You know what? Arguing with you is pointless. But hear me out here, okay? Listen to this. Sami and Lucas have a child together. Will is a great kid. They had a chance at a future, as a family together, and that's all in the hell they ever wanted. But that's not gonna happen now. And they're not the only losers here. I...I lost my wife, Kate. And if Sami goes to prison, I will have lost my daughter, too.

Kate: Well, I lost my son. And I lost my husband.

Roman: Yes, you did. And even though it was your own doing, I do feel sorry for you. Because you know what, Kate? A big part of me will always love you, and for that reason, I wish I could find a way to forgive you for what you did.

Kate: Then just do it.

Roman: No way I can sweep it under the carpet and just make it go away.

Kate: We can work through it. I know we can.

Roman: If it were only that easy, Kate. Goodbye.

Sami: Oh, my God. This is not what it looks like.

Austin: She's telling you the truth.

Lucas: That would be the first time, wouldn't it? No wonder why you didn't want me in your apartment. You got my brother naked in bed with you!

Austin: You know better than that.

Lucas: Do I know better than that, man?

Austin: I just got out of the shower, and, yes, I did sleep here last night, but Sami was a mess. I took her to get something to eat, and then we came back here, and I slept on the couch.

Lucas: Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute. Put the brakes on. You went to get something to eat? I'm so sick to my stomach, I can't eat, I can't sleep, and you don't miss a beat, do you? You just go right out and have a great time.

Austin: We tried to get something at Chez Rouge, it didn't work out. We came back here. Nothing.

Lucas: Chez Rouge, really? That's funny. That's where our wedding reception was supposed to be.

Sami: Lucas, please.

Lucas: You know what? This gets better and better, doesn't it? I'm not shocked by your behavior anymore, Sami. I'm sick of it! But, you, how could you do this? How can you fall for her sob story? You know what she's gonna do, man. She's gonna ruin your life, too.

Sami: No, I -- look, I'm sorry. I know that, that's -- I know I deserve it, okay?

Lucas: Yeah, you think you deserve it? Maybe a little bit, Sami?

Sami: Don't take your anger out on Austin, okay? He's just trying to do a good thing.

Lucas: Really? I can't believe you, man. How can you fall for her sob story like this? After what she did to me? After what she did to your nephew?

Austin: She told me she got mixed up with DiMera without knowing it.

Sami: Exactly. And if Kate hadn't set me up and ruined my life, none of it would have happened.

Lucas: I am not making excuses for what my mother did, all right? She drugged you, and she framed you. But you. You should have known. You should have had faith in our love. You should have known that eventually we would have found our way back to each other.

Sami: Wait just one second. I told you a million times that I was innocent, and you called me a liar among other things!

Lucas: What was I supposed to do?!

Sami: I don't know, but not that! All I had left was the idea of getting revenge on her, all right?! And, yes, Tony took advantage of me 'cause I was vulnerable, but you used to work for him! You know what he's like!

Lucas: Yeah, I worked for him, but I didn't do what you did! I didn't hurt people. You did it, and you lied about it over and over again, Sami! You didn't know that he was behind this? You didn't ask? You didn't think about it? You didn't wonder? I know you, Sami. That's bull. You're smarter than that.

Sami: Right, now you're mad at me because I'm not clairvoyant? Damn it, Lucas, you know me! You know that I didn't want any of those things to happen!

Lucas: Yeah, all I know is bad things keep happening to you, don't they? Over and over again. But you know what? Someday, you're gonna have to be accountable for your actions. And may God help you.

Sami: You don't mean that.

Lucas: I do mean that. And, you, man, you're a damn fool for letting her back into your life. Both of you.

Sami: Lucas.

[Door slams]

Marlena: You didn't have to bring me, you know.

John: I wanted to. It gave me a few more minutes to spend with you.

Marlena: Well, thanks.

John: So, you getting anything else done besides your hair?

Marlena: No, why?

John: Sometimes you'd get a facial or massage. Just want to know how long you'd be.

Marlena: Oh. Oh, I don't know. Uh, an hour, I guess?

John: Take your time. I'll wait.

Marlena: You don't have to. I can catch a cab.

John: I know. I just...wanted to be able to finish our conversation.

Marlena: About Alex.

John: Yeah, it's kind of hard to discuss him when he's so present.

Marlena: I don't know what more we can say about it. I mean, he was explaining, you know, his interruptions from his career, and I think he did that pretty well, so I don't know what else you want to know.

John: Look, I realize that you think this guy walks on water. But I don't think so. Maybe you can't understand this, but I took vows to love and protect you, and I take those vows seriously. So as your husband, I need to be satisfied that Dr. North has your best interest at heart.

Marlena: What is it gonna take to satisfy you?

John: I don't know. [Chuckles] Maybe I'll find something when I keep digging into his background.

Marlena: John... are you jealous of Alex?

John: That's a fair question. Jealous. Yeah, I guess I am a little. And a lot hurt...that you would turn to him, a stranger, instead of your family, especially me, your husband.

Marlena: I feel like I've known him a very long time.

John: And that's exactly why I'm suspicious of him. You didn't know him until he started treating you. And now he's way too familiar with you.

Marlena: I don't want to be late.

John: All right. Take your time. I'll be right here. Hey, Roman.

Roman: John. What are you doing in this part of town?

John: Marlena had an appointment. Thought I'd drop her off.

Roman: Ah. Beauty parlor, huh? So, you just hanging out, waiting for her, right?

John: I figure the longer I keep her away from Dr. North, the better.

Roman: You said you were checking him out. How's that going?

John: From what I can tell, the man hasn't practiced medicine for 10 years. I busted him on it. He glossed it over, but Marlena, she's buying his explanation.

Roman: Sounds like Doc has dug her heels in.

John: I've been trying to kick him out of the penthouse, she keeps running to his defense.

Roman: All right. Well, if there's anything at all I can do to help, you just let me know.

John: Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

Roman: All right, you bet. Okay, I got to get going. I, some police work to do. See you later.

Alex: "Gloriane's salon and day spa." Timing is everything. I have to be careful to choose just the right moment. If I do...then she's mine.

Marlena: Thank you so much. I feel like a person again.

Gloriane: Your hair always looks good. Oh, look. We almost match.

Marlena: We do!

[Both laugh]

Gloriane: Is there anything else I can do for you?

Marlena: No, I think I'm in great shape. Thank you so much.

Gloriane: Oh, good. Oh, you're awfully tense.

Marlena: Wow.

Gloriane: Let's just give you a little neck massage.

Marlena: Oh, that feels so good.

[Inhales, exhales]

Gloriane: You want to talk about it?

Marlena: I just had a kind of a stressful morning. But this really helps.. Thank you.

Gloriane: Good. Oh, if you're not in a rush, I have got just the thing to melt all that stress away. Just wait here.

Marlena: Oh, thank you. You're so kind.

[Cellphone rings] Hello? Hello? Is anybody there?

Lucas: Uh, give me a coffee with milk, no sugar. I'll be at that first table right there. Thank you.

Kate: Good morning. I was wondering where you were.

Lucas: Well, I'm not late, am I?

Kate: No, no. I was early.

Lucas: Well, thanks for agreeing to meet me.

Kate: Sure, I was happy to. I was, um, I was hoping that maybe you were thinking about forgiving me.

Lucas: No, that's not why I'm here. Thank you.

Kate: Oh. Okay. Um, why then?

Lucas: Well...[Sighs] I needed to return this.

Kate: [Sighs] It was a wedding gift for you.

Lucas: Mm-hmm, yeah, it was. A wedding that you sabotaged. It didn't happen, so congratulations.

Lucas: Lucas, I sent it before I had proof that Sami was Stan, okay?

Lucas: You sent it while you were desperately looking for that proof.

Kate: I believe that I did you a favor. I know you don't see it that way now, but I'm just hoping someday you do.

Lucas: I loved Sami. And I'm never gonna forgive you for coming between us the way you did.

Kate: Never is an awfully long time, Lucas.

Lucas: You knew what I wanted. You knew I wanted to start a family. I wanted to make a family with Sami and Will. And more importantly, will deserves to have both of his parents in his life, and it almost happened. It almost happened not once, but twice, and then you --

Kate: I made you face reality.

Lucas: You know what? You should have just left us alone. Then maybe Sami wouldn't have been so driven to do all those crazy things. You know it. I know it. This whole damn town knows it! Even Roman knows it.

Kate: All right, okay. Maybe I did contribute to her unraveling.

Lucas: Maybe just a little bit, you think, mom?

Kate: [Sighs] Lucas, I was desperate to keep her away from you, okay? I had no idea that she was so self-destructive that she'd align herself with Tony DiMera.

Lucas: Self-destructive? That's Sami's middle name. You didn't know that?

Kate: Well, you -- I'm thinking that if you realize that, then you should be happy that I saved you. Look, I'm sorry that you were hurt. I'm sorry will was hurt. I know neither of you deserve that. I'm just praying that Sami's misery is 10 times as great.

Lucas: Yeah, save your prayers, all right? She's already moved on.

Kate: What are you talking about?

Lucas: It's been less than a day since the wedding was wrecked. Less than a day, and who did I find at her apartment wrapped in a damn towel?

Kate: Do not tell me that it was Austin.

Lucas: Yes, it was Austin. Bingo! She just was waiting, waiting, and there he was with open arms to support her. So you know what, mom? You might have a full-time job. Now you got to keep both your sons away from Sami.

Kate: That little bitch.

Sami: Why are you being nice to me? I don't deserve it.

Austin: You've made some mistakes.

Sami: Some really, really big mistakes.

Austin: Yeah, but you're not the only one at fault here.

Sami: Thank you for saying that.

Austin: It's true. Here. East some of this. It'll help, too.

Sami: No offense, Austin, but I don't think anything is gonna make me feel better right now. I love him.

Austin: I know.

Sami: And it hurts so much. The look on his face and the way he talked about Will, how he doesn't want to see me anymore.

Austin: The whole world came crashing down on the three of you yesterday.. And it's just gonna take some time...for those wounds to heal.

Sami: No, no. If this were the first time I had hurt them, then I'd think that maybe we had a chance of being a family, but I have had a lot of chances and I have blown them all.

Austin: So? Make a promise to yourself. Okay? [Clears throat] Repeat after me -- I, Sami Brady, have learned my lesson. And I'm not gonna lie to the people that I love, no matter what. Can't say it yet, huh? It's the only way you're gonna have any real peace. So, you gonna eat that muffin, or wallow in your self-pity?

Sami: Well, that was another excellent pep talk. Thank you. I will try to pull myself together.

Austin: Good.

Sami: One good thing. Can't get any worse, right?

[Knock on door]

Sami: Dad.

John: Said she was only gonna be an hour. What's taking so long?

Alex: Remember the music.

[Slow tempo music plays]

[Music stops]

Gloriane: Dr. Evans, I can't remember if you take sugar -- well, that's odd. Where'd she go?

John: [Inhales deeply] Damn.

Lucas: You weren't surprised that Austin was with Sami. Why is that?

Kate: Because they were at Chez Rouge last night. They left together.

Lucas: Great, they were there. You were there. Everybody but me. Wonderful.

Kate: I was just hoping that Austin would have the good sense to put her in a cab and send her packing.

Lucas: Well, you know that, that's not Austin, is it? No. He had to listen to her sob story, crash on the couch. That's what he said.

Kate: Yeah, great, 'cause Sami is capable of anything. She could have drugged him.

Lucas: Well, if she drugged him, she learned it from you. Now why don't you just leave her out of there, all right? Leave her alone.

Kate: I can't do that. I can't do that. Not as long as she makes my children her prey.

Lucas: Fine. You're gonna do what you want anyway. I can't do anything about that. But remember this -- you are on your own. You understand that? You're on your own. I am officially off the Sami Brady roller coaster. And the Kate Roberts roller coaster, too..

Kate: Well, at least my children will finally be safe from that witch.

Sami: Dad.

Roman: Hey, Austin. Good to see you.

Austin: You, too, Commander Brady.

Sami: Daddy, what are you doing here?

Roman: Uh...official police business.

Sami: Official police business.

Roman: Sami, there is absolutely no easy way to do this. I am here at the request of the FBI, whose agents are arriving in Salem pretty much as we speak. Samantha Jean Brady, you are under arrest...for treason.

Sami: No. I-I caní under arrest.

Austin: It's gonna be all right. I'm here for you, okay?

Shawn D.: So, are we gonna talk about it?

Mimi: About what?

Shawn D.: About the kiss and how good it felt.

Roman: What you did was commit treason, and it could carry the death penalty.

Austin: She is going to get off, and it's all thanks to you.

John: What is it?

Marlena: I want a divorce.
