Jack: All right.

Jennifer: Okay, I've got the tortilla chips, peanut-butter brownies packed for Abby. Can you believe she is excited about a family gathering for a change?

Jack: I wouldn't get your hopes up. She's in the final throes of Salem 500 fever.

Jennifer: [Chuckles]

Abby: He's got the hottest smile.

Chelsea: He's got the hottest everything.

Jennifer: Who are you guys talking about?

Abby: Oh, just one of the stock-car drivers.

Jennifer: Oh, he's pretty hot, huh?

Chelsea: Hot to the Max.

[Both giggle]

Jennifer: Girls.

Jack: [Giggles mockingly]

Jennifer: Jack, are you okay? What's wrong?

Jack: Oh!

Tek: You really dress this place up. Do you know that?

Lexie: Hello, Tek.

Tek: So, did you get my message?

Lexie: Yes, yes, yes, I did. I've just been extremely busy.

Tek: Right. I know, you've been busy.

Lexie: Really, I -- I have.

Tek: So, what do you think about now? I mean, do you want to go grab a cup of coffee or something?

Lexie: [Sighs] isn't coffee you're after.

Tek: Can't fool you.

Lexie: You have made your feelings extremely clear. And I am still extremely married.

Tek: But not happily, though, Lexie.

Lexie: Show me any couple who's been through what we've had to live with. It's only natural things have been a little rough, but that does not mean that I am giving up on my husband.

Tek: That's not what I'm asking you to do.

Lexie: I won't cheat on him, either.

Tek: Lexie, Abe is the one who's pushing you away.

Lexie: Tek, I mean, he's lost his sight, okay? He's having a difficult time.

Tek: The man can't make love to his wife. That's Abeís real problem.

Abe: Did I hear my name?

Chloe: Well, I just wish I was sure that I was doing the right thing.

Nicole: There is no other way, Chloe, unless you want Brady to know you're still alive. Isn't it better for him to remember you the way you were?

Brady: So, who you talking to, Nicole? Have something to do with Chloe?

[Click, dial tone]

Brady: Jeez. Am I losing it? Who were you talking to on the phone just now?

Nancy: Good morning, Chloe, and how are we feeling today?

Chloe: Nicole called.

Nancy: And what did she want?

Chloe: She's offering us the Titan Jet to fly to a clinic in Switzerland. We have to leave tonight.

Nancy: Absolutely not! Chloe, I am not gonna let that bleached-blond tramp steal Brady away from you.

Shawn D.: I knew I wouldn't get much of a welcome from Kate, but your father -- he wasn't so happy to see me, either.

Belle: Did you really think he would be? I mean, you kind of took everybody by surprise. We weren't expecting you.

Shawn D.: That was the idea. If I would have called, I know you would have tried to talk me out of coming, and I know that you needed me here.

Belle: Look, like I said, Shawn, you've got to go. Philip cannot see you here.

Shawn D.: He's got to see me sometime.

Philip: No! No! No, no!

[Gunfire and explosions]

Philip: No!

Belle: I have to go to him. You have to leave right now.

Shawn D.: I'm not going anywhere -- I canít.

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.

Belle: Please. Shawn, I feel responsible for Philip, and I don't want to see him get upset. And he will if he sees you here.

Shawn D.: I want Philip to get better, too, and he needs you right now -- I know that. I'll just wait. He won't see me, okay? But I'm not leaving you.

Belle: Philip, what is it? What's wrong?

Philip: It's gone, but I can still feel it! It's killing me from the foot all the way to the top! Ow! What the hell is this?!

Belle: I don't know.

Dr. Gage: What's going on?

Belle: Dr. Gage, he says he's having pain in the --

Philip: It's the leg that's gone, doctor, but it's real. What's going on? What the hell is this?

Dr. Gage: I know it's real, Philip. It's called phantom pain. It's the result of nerve damage to the leg that's been amputated. Hopefully, now that you understand where the pain's coming from, the next time it happens, you won't be so frightened.

Belle: I wish there was something I could do.

Dr. Gage: Your being here is quite helpful, I'm sure.

Philip: When the hell am I gonna be able to walk again?!

Dr. Gage: We have to wait for the amputation site to heal before we can fit you with a prosthesis. It will take a lot of hard work, Philip -- many hours of physical therapy. You're basically gonna be learning to walk all over again. But if you have the stamina, and I believe you do, you can make it back to 100%.

Philip: I'll do whatever I have to do, okay? I'll do it.

Dr. Gage: Desire and determination are half the battle. I'm gonna go set you up with an x-ray appointment. We'll talk more later.

Belle: Thank you, doctor.

Philip: Ow!

Belle: Can I get you anything? Are you hungry?

Philip: No, damn it, no!

Belle: I'm sorry.

Philip: No, no, Belle, it's not you, honey. It's us. We're never gonna be the same again. You don't have to stick with me, all right? You didn't marry me so you could spend the rest of your life waiting on your disabled husband.

[Breathing heavily]

Nancy: I can't believe that you're letting that little witch get away with this. Nicole just wants Brady for herself.

Chloe: Well, Nicole is still beautiful, and I never will be again, so it's for the best. Let's just accept that, Nancy.

Nancy: Chloe, that's a cop-out. Sweetheart, it also shows very little respect for Brady as a human being. You deserve to be with the man that makes you happy, and I'm not going to stop helping you until we get him back.

Brady: So, who were you talking to on the phone just now?

Nicole: Nobody. I mean, nobody as in not somebody. I, uh, was leaving a message for my assistant at Titan. You know, if I don't stay on her about every little thing, well,

Nicole: [Chuckles] You know how it is. So, since when did you suddenly care about who I talk to on the phone?

Brady: No reason. I was actually gonna make a call myself, and I picked up and noticed you were on the line.

Nicole: You picked up the phone? I didn't realize.

Brady: You'd hung up, so I didn't want to interrupt anything.

Nicole: You didnít.

Brady: Look, I got a busy day. I got to head to work.

Nicole: Yeah, I do, too. I'll see you later.

Brady: Sure.

Nancy: Chloe, I won't let you throw your life away with br--

[Cell phone rings]

Nancy: I swear, life was so much easier when we weren't interrupted by every Tom, Dick, a-- and Brady.

[Ringing continues]

Nancy: Hello, there, Brady.

Brady: Nancy, hi. Um, can you come over to the mansion right away? I need to speak with you.

Nancy: Sure. What's up?

Brady: It's important. It's about Chloe.

Nancy: I'll be right over.

Tek: [Sighs] Hello, Abe. Um, I just dropped by to say hi to Lexie. We're friends. I hope that's not a problem for you.

Abe: Like you'd give a damn if it was. And I suspect there's more than just friendship going on.

Lexie: Oh, Abe, that is not true, and you know it.

Abe: Well, I have to believe what you tell me since I can't see for myself.

Tek: Look, I don't want to cause trouble, so I'm just gonna leave.

Abe: Is your lover gone?

Lexie: [Scoffs] He is not my -- yes, Abe. Tek just zipped his pants up and left. There. Feel better? It's obviously what you want to hear.

Abe: That's what you want to do. You just won't admit it. Too busy being Lexie Carver, noble wife.

Lexie: Oh, for heaven's sake.

Abe: What? You're not getting any at home. Am I really supposed to believe you're being faithful to me?

Lexie: I am not having an affair with Tek Kramer.

Abe: You know, playing the martyr doesn't suit you.

Lexie: It suits you even less.

Abe: Me?

Lexie: Abe, honey, we still share a bed. There are many, many ways of being intimate, but you turn your back on me night after night. You go to sleep while I lie awake.

Abe: Wishing you were in bed with a real man.

Lexie: Arguing won't get us anywhere. Um, I've scheduled some more blood work with you today with some specialists. Perhaps there are other treatment options.

Abe: I'm tired of being poked and prodded. It's a waste of time and money.

Lexie: If there is a way for you to see your son again, don't you want to find it? Honey, I want us to explore every possibility. Abe, please. Please don't give up on us. Please don't give up on yourself.

Abe: I shouldn't be late for my appointment. Nurse?

Nurse: Yes?

Abe: Off to the lab for more useless tests.

Tek: He's really putting you through it. You know, you deserve better, Lexie.

Lexie: I took wedding vows, Tek, that means something to me.

Tek: I know that. I admire that about you. [Sighs] But I don't know how much more you can take.

Chelsea: Oh, my God. Look at him there. I would lose my virginity to a guy like him in a Salem minute. What? Like you're planning on staying a virgin forever?

Abby: Well, no, but since we're gonna be with my parents today, I'll probably still be one when I get home tonight.

Jennifer: All right, that's it. I'm ready to go.

Jack: I'll tell you what. I'm gonna meet you at the track.

Jennifer: What? Why?

Jack: Oh, I just have an errand to run. It's in town. You'll like it. I'll be there soon.

Jennifer: Are you sure you're feeling okay?

Jack: I feel great. I'm home. I'm with my little family.

Abby: Dad...don't be gushy.

Chelsea: I think it's sweet.

Jack: Oh, see, I never thought I'd live to see myself described as "sweet."

Jennifer: I know, but here you are, sweet as can be.

Jack: Yes. I'll see you. I'll see you there. I'll see you at the track. Tee-hee-hee.

Chelsea: Bye.

Jack: Bye. Dr. Carver, please. Hurry.

Lexie: Dr. Carver.

Jack: Lexie, it's Jack Deveraux. I need to see you right away. And this time, I need answers.

Nurse: I'll see if the doctor's ready for you.

Abe: Thank you.

Mark: Commander Carver, it's Officer Adams.

Abe: Oh, Mark.

Mark: I've been doing what you asked me to do.

Abe: And?

Mark: Tek's a player. We're talking lots of women -- never with one for very long. Anyone gets too close, seems it's just right on to the next.

Abe: That's what I figured you'd find out. And there's no way I'm gonna let that scum get his hands on my wife.

Jack: [Breathless] Lexie. Explain it to me, doc. My sense of balance is gone, I'm feeling light-headed, and this pain in my side is going from bad to worse.

Lexie: Have you told Jennifer yet?

Jack: No, and you are not telling her, either.

Lexie: Oh, Jack, you are making a huge mistake.

Jack: Just tell me how you can help me.

Lexie: I'd like to take some more blood, order a few more tests.

Jack: Great, great. Stick me like a pig, I don't care, just tell me what the hell is wrong with me.

Jennifer: We're here, girls. Why don't you help me --

Abby: Later, mom.

Jennifer: Oh, okay, have fun!

Chelsea: Um, can I get a --

Abby: Forget about that. Let's get a few live autographs.

Chelsea: I know one driver who can sign his name right on my bare...

Abby: Aah! Oh, my gosh. It looks like --

Chelsea: Who?

Abby: It is! It's him!

[Indistinct chatter]

Chelsea: Oh, my God. He's so hot.

Abby: I can't wait to meet him.

[Indistinct talking]

Abby: Can you sign mine next? Thank you.

[Squealing continues]

Jennifer: My goodness. What the heck is that all about?

Brady: Hey, Nancy. Come on in. Thank you so much for getting over here so quickly.

Nancy: Well, it sounded urgent. What can I do for you?

Brady: Either tell me I'm crazy or tell me that Chloe is still alive.

Nancy: What do you mean?

Brady: I know how this is gonna sound, so... you know what, there really is no easy way of saying this, so I'm just gonna get right to it. I heard Chloeís voice on the phone. I know. I-I-I swear I did, so I need to ask you a few questions, and I'm sorry if I upset you by bringing you back to those painful memories.

Nancy: It's okay, Brady. What do you need to know?

Brady: After Chloe died, did you see her body?

Nancy: Brady, it was a horrific accident. It was difficult to identify by usual means. We had to rely on D.N.A. testing.

Brady: Right, but D.N.A. can be faked, right? And you said that Chloeís body was cremated. Are you sure that those were her ashes that you showed me?

Nancy: I assume you're through with this chicken.

Chloe: Yes.

Nancy: Mm-hmm. And, uh, what about this dried-up thing? Are you saving it for any reason?

Chloe: No, I'm gonna throw it out.

Nancy: Don't bother.

Chloe: What are you doing?

Nancy: I have collected your final remains.

Chloe: This is so bizarre. Nancy, call off this stupid memorial service. Do you hear me?

Nancy: You know what? It's your memorial service. You're the only one who can call it off. Brady, you saw the ashes. We had the memorial service. We buried the urn. Chloe's

gone. You have to face it.

Brady: Nancy, I don't mean to be disrespectful here, but is there any way that Chloeís death could have been faked? That it could have been a hoax? Is it possible that Chloe could still be alive?

Nancy: Chloe, why can't I talk you out of this? You love Brady, and he loves you. Please let me tell him that you're alive.

Chloe: You do, and you'll never see me again.

Nancy: I wish... you don't know how much I wish I could tell you what you want to hear, but I canít. I'm sorry.

Brady: 'Cause you know that if there's any chance at all that Chloeís out there, I'm gonna find her. I'm not gonna give up. I canít.

Nancy: Brady, I would give anything to see you and Chloe together, but... sadly, it's out of my hands.

Brady: Well, thank you for being so honest with me. I just have this strong feeling, and...I'm gonna keep looking for her.

Nancy: Brady, if there's one thing I can tell you...follow your heart.

Nicole: [Thinking] You're gonna follow your heart back to me, Brady. I will not lose you to Chloe.

Philip: [Sighs] I'm just gonna be a burden to you. You don't need that.

Belle: Philip, don't say things like that. And you're not a burden. I am with you because I want to help you recover. I'm your wife.

Philip: My body is never gonna be the same, Belle. No matter how good they say the fake leg is, it's a fake leg. And when I take it off, [Chuckles] It's gonna be rough. It's gonna be really rough.

Belle: You know what? I think it's the kind of thing you get used to. You could have died, Philip. And I'm so grateful that you didnít.

Philip: [Scoffs] Yeah.

Gary: Time to go down to x-ray.

Philip: Great.

Belle: Do you want me to come with you?

Philip: No, I want to go by myself.

Belle: Okay. I'll see you soon.

Philip: [Sighs deeply]

Belle: [Crying]

Gary: How you doing? I'm Gary.

Philip: I'm Philip.

Gary: New here, huh?

Philip: Yeah.

Gary: You got that look, like, "what the hell happened?"

Philip: Yeah.

Gary: You get used to it. First couple weeks are the hardest.

Philip: How long have you been here?

Gary: A couple months. Above the knee.

Philip: I'm sorry.

Gary: That's how her letter started. "Dear Gary, I'm sorry." She blew me off, my so-called girlfriend. You married?

Philip: Yeah, yeah, yeah. My wife's here with me. She's gonna stick it out with me, too.

Gary: That's what I thought, too. I don't mean to bring you down, soldier. It's just a fact. Once they realize it's never gonna be like it was, they take off. Just trying to prepare you, man. It could happen to you, too.

Abby: Our first Salem 500 race, and we get to meet...

Chelsea: ...The hottest up-and-coming driver up close.

Abby: We may never get this chance again. Come on.

[Indistinct talking]

Chelsea: There's no way he's related to the Bradyís we know, is there? Your mom's cousin and Shawn?

Abby: Oh, I wish. But, you know, I'm sure I would have heard about it. Brady's a pretty common name.

Chelsea: I want him to sign my shirt. Max!

Abby: We'll never get close enough.

Jennifer: What is going on? Who's the big star -- Elvis?

Abby: Mom.

Jennifer: No, I'm serious. I haven't seen you guys this excited in a long time. He must be pretty cute.

Chelsea: Cute? He's gorgeous. Abs and I are both hot for him.

Abby: Okay, think crush, mom. I mean, it's not like we're gonna rip his clothes off.

Chelsea: Speak for yourself.

Jennifer: You know, I had a lot of crushes on rock stars when I was your age.

Abby: You were never our age. Come on, let's try to get closer.

Jennifer: Abby, I was so a teenager... once. A pretty hot one, if I do say so myself. Jack, where are you?

Nurse: Mr. Deveraux's test results, doctor.

Lexie: Thank you.

Jack: So, how long have I got, doc?

Lexie: Um, let's speak in private...on the terrace.

Jack: [Clears throat]

Tek: Hey, Adams. What are you doing here?

Mark: I'm on assignment.

Tek: What assignment is that?

Mark: With all due respect, I don't report to you. What are you doing here? Looking for a little face time with Lexie Carver?

Jack: You look awfully serious.

Lexie: Jack, I'm afraid your white blood count is dangerously low.

Jack: So, uh, what's the prognosis?

Lexie: Not good.

Jack: What's that? Doctor speak for I'm dying?

Philip: That must have been rough, man. Getting a Dear-John letter in the mail.

Gary: Actually, it was an e-mail.

Philip: It was?

Gary: Yeah, it was. She just couldn't hack it and moved on... with one of my friends.

Philip: Great friend.

Gary: Tell me about it. So, your wife, she's here?

Philip: Yeah, yeah. She's here right now, man. She flew over as soon as she heard.

Gary: My girl was on the first flight out, too. I mean, you give her credit. She tried. She pretended she wasn't horrified, that everything could be the same between us, but, I mean, let's be real -- it's not the same. It never will be.

Philip: But Belle and I are married. We're married. We took vows before God. It's different.

Gary: "For better or worse, in sickness and in health," but!

Belle: You have to go back to Salem, Shawn. I mean it. I'm here with Philip, and I need to concentrate on his recovery.

Shawn D.: And I'm glad that you're doing that. You're probably the person that he trusts the most.

Belle: You understand what he's going through, don't you? I don't know that he will ever be the man he used to be.

Shawn D.: I'm not trying to be insensitive here. Really, I am not. I-I flew over here because I love you.

Belle: You also drove your motorcycle through a church window because you loved me.

Shawn D.: That was a long time ago. I was a different person. I am now back to being myself, and I am even more in love with you than I ever have been before. Belle, I just need to know if you are committed to having a future with me.

Brady: Hey.

Nicole: Hey. How was your visit with Nancy?

Brady: How did you know I just saw Nancy?

Nicole: I saw her leave as I was coming in. Brady, are -- are you thinking Chloe could still be alive?

Brady: I questioned Nancy about Chloe, and once again she assured me that Chloe is dead. So I had to confront the truth -- Chloe is dead and gone. My heart didn't want to believe it, but...miracles don't happen because you want them to.

Nicole: I'm sorry, Brady. I know how much Chloe meant to you. Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?

Brady: [Thinking] Yeah, you could lead me to Chloe.

Chloe: Hey. How is Brady?

Nancy: Why do you care?

Chloe: Mother, please don't make this any harder for me.

Nancy: Okay. How is Brady? He still loves you. He thinks you're alive. And he's devastated that you haven't come to find him.

Chloe: I told you not to tell him!

Nancy: I didn't! I obeyed your orders, although I'm sorry I did. Chloe, I have never seen such deep love. He is never going to stop trying to find you. His heart won't let him.

Chloe: Then we have to leave right now. Mom, go get your bags.

Nancy: No way. We are not getting on that Titan Jet. We are staying right here in Salem.

[Indistinct talking]

Max: There you go. Hi.

Abby: Hi, Max. I'm a huge fan. Can you sign my magazine?

Max: Sure. All right, what's your name, honey?

Abby: Abby. A-b-b-Y.

Max: All right. There you go. Enjoy the race, Abby.

Abby: I will, thanks.

Chelsea: Hey, Max, sign my shirt, okay? I've got a marking pen.

Max: All right.

Chelsea: Okay. Sign it up at the top, "to Chelsea, with love, Max Brady."

Abby: "To Chelsea, with love, Max Brady." Oh, that is so awesome.

Chelsea: Thanks, Max. So, what are you doing after the race?

Max: I thought I'd kick back, look up some old friends.

Chelsea: Why don't I give you my cell phone number?

Abby: Hi, Max.

Chelsea: He was so totally into me. Did you see that? I'm so never washing this shirt again.

Abby: I can't believe you got his autograph.

Chelsea: How can a guy like Max Brady have friends in a nowhere place like Salem?

Abby: Hey, what about my hat?

Max: I will, I will.

Jennifer: Come on, Jack. Why are you always so late? Don't you know how much I worry about you?

Lexie: There is no way anyone could have predicted something like this, Jack. It is a very rare condition. In fact, I've never encountered it before.

Jack: Well, alert the medical media. Come on, Lexie. This is me. Give me the straight dope. Come on. I can handle it. Am I dying?

Lexie: In situations like this, I always advise getting a second opinion.

Jack: Wait a minute. You can't even say it. You can't even say it. Come on, tell me how long. At least manage that much. How many damn years do I have left? What? W-w-w-w-we're talking months, weeks, what? Talk to me!

Lexie: If I had to guess... maybe... three months. But the medical community is always working on new treatments. There are breakthroughs. I mean, there is a chance that we could --

Jack: Oh, my God. This isn't happening. This is amazing. I can-- I get through everything Tony DiMera can throw at me. I manage to get home to my wife and my family, only to die.

Lexie: If -- if you want, I'll come with you to tell Jennifer.

Jack: Jennifer. Oh, my God -- Jennifer. No. No, I can't do this to Jennifer. I canít.

Lexie: Jack... Jack, life is so precious. If Jennifer only has a few months with you, she needs to know so she can make peace with the situation.

Jack: It's my life. It's my decision. You are to tell no one. No one. Got me?

Lexie: Jack, you're making a big mistake.

Jack: No, God made the mistake. God made the mistake. He's having a little joke on me. Me and my whole family. "I'll let Jack make it all the way home, have a couple of happy weeks, and take him away from his wife and kids for ever and ever." Amen. Good one.

Lexie: I'm so sorry. I'll -- I'll be in touch with you as soon as I have something to report, okay?

Jack: Thank you. And, uh...thank you for having the guts to tell me. Thank you.

Lexie: You're welcome.

Tek: What's wrong, beautiful?

[Indistinct talking]

Jennifer: Hey, girls, you having a good time?

Chelsea: Yeah, check out my shirt. Is it cool or what?

Abby: Chelsea's amazing, mom. She got Max Brady to touch her. Well, with a pen, but still.

Jennifer: Wait a minute. Did you say "Max Brady"? [Gasps] Max!

Max: I know that voice. Jennifer Horton. Oh, my God. I'm sorry, ladies.

Jennifer: Max, how are you?

Chelsea: Max Brady knows your mom?

Abby: I can't believe this. He's like the coolest guy in Salem 500.

Jennifer: It's so good to see you again. It has been too long.

Max: I'll say it has.

Jennifer: Oh, my goodness!

Nicole: I'll see you later, honey. Try to cheer up, okay? Oh, I can't leave this to chance. I have to make sure Chloe and her big-mouth mother get on that plane and fly away, never to be seen again.

Brady: Hang on, Chloe. I have a feeling that Nicole is gonna lead me right to you.

Chloe: Mother, you promised you'd abide by my wishes.

Nancy: Chloe, I made a mistake. As your mother, I should do what's best for you. And leaving Brady is definitely not it. Chloe...I looked into his eyes, and I saw how much he still adores you. How much -- how much he loves you. His life doesn't make any sense without you. And your life...will be lonely and miserable without him. Please listen to your mother. Go to Brady and be with the man that you love.

Dr. Gage: I won't lie to you, Philip. The recovery process takes its toll on any marriage. So much depends on the strength of the individuals involved and the bonds they've managed to create.

Philip: Well, then I have nothing to worry about. I told Belle that I refuse to be a burden to her. She told me I never would be. She promised me. She doesn't think of it that way. So I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Belle: Shawn, please. You have got to leave before Philip sees you. His recovery is gonna be difficult enough without worrying about losing me.

Shawn D.: I'm not leaving until I know you're okay. I love you too much.

Philip: Dr. Gage, stop right here. I want to take it from here.

Dr. Gage: Are you sure?

Philip: Yeah, I'm sure. I can bench-press almost twice my weight, all right? I want to wheel myself in and surprise my wife.

Dr. Gage: Good idea. You got the right attitude, Philip.

Philip: [Inhales deeply]

[Inhales sharply]

Chloe: Brady's really close to finding me. The only way to prevent that is to leave Salem, which I intend to do right now.

Jennifer: What distracted you so much that you forgot your favorite relish?

Tek: I know that you're hurting, and I just want to take that hurt away.

Philip: You're still after Belle, and you're doing everything you can think of to come between us and steal my wife from me.
