[Slow, romantic country music playing]

Manda: I'm glad we stayed for one more dance.

Lucas: Ooh, yeah.

Rex: I know exactly what's going on.

Sami: Oh, do you?

Rex: Of course I do. You and Lucas -- you know what I think you should do?

Sami: You know what I think you should do? I think you should shut up and mind your own business.

Rex: Hey, don't say I didn't try to help.

Bonnie: Whoo-wee. We're going to have to get some new wallpaper after tonight, because those two are just steaming up the joint. Help me out here, Sami. I thought you were going to march right over there and tell Lucas --

Sami: You know what? I didn't ask for your first lecture, and I don't want another one.

Bonnie: Suit yourself.

Crystal: Looks like you're going somewhere.

Brady: I am. I'm going to the grand opening of Alice’s.

Nicole: It's a little late, isn't it?

Brady: The party's going on half the night.

Crystal: Going to get down and dirty and part-ay heart-ay?

Brady: Crystal, it's a fundraiser for the Horton foundation. Do you want to come along?

Crystal: Okay.

Nicole: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, thanks, Brady, but Crystal and I are going to spend a nice quiet evening here at home.

Brady: Great. See you later.

[Cellular phone rings ]

John: Where the hell's that phone? John Black.

Brady: Dad, it's Brady. Are you at Alice's?

John: I was. I'm back at the office now.

Brady: What the hell are you doing working so late?

John: Well, I'm going over all the statements and records from the night that Marlena was gunned down at the county jail.

Brady: You find anything that would connect Crystal to Marlena's death?

John: Maybe. It seems that our miss Crystal galore knows a hell of a lot more about what happened that night than she's letting on.

Brady: All right, you know what? Just stay right there. I'll be right over.

Alice: I can't believe Tony dimera is here on the island with us.

Maggie: Well, that's right. And what's amazing is that he survived that horrible tiger attack.

Alice: Oh, thank you, dear.

Maggie: Mm-hmm.

Alice: Do you think he knows anything about what's really happening here?

Maggie: He says he has no idea what's going on, that he's just another prisoner like the rest of us... why, he just happened to find Jack's compass in the jungle.

Alice: Mm-hmm. And what do Abe and Roman have to say about that?

Maggie: Well, you know, they found Jack's backpack in Salem place. It was shredded to pieces. I just hope Jack wasn't killed trying to escape this island to reach Jennifer... just when Jennifer's probably going to be the next person brought here.

Hope: Hold on, Jennifer. We're coming.

Patrick: He's trying to get away. Look, you're going to have to pull up next to the plane. I'm going to try to jump on the wing.

Hope: Are you nuts? That's insane. You'll get yourself killed.

Patrick: Just do it! They're getting away!

Jennifer: Davies, you stop this plane right now!

Davies: Not on your life, missy! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Jennifer: Oh, my gosh! Patrick! Patrick, no!

Patrick: It's now or never. Keep the car steady!

Hope: I'm doing the best I can!

Jennifer: Davies, stop this plane right now!

Davies: No! We're taking off. And it looks like your friend's going to get himself killed!

Nicole: Hey, go easy on the booze.

Crystal: Look who's talking.

Nicole: I can hold my liquor a hell of a lot better than you can.

Crystal: That sounds a little like a challenge to me.

Nicole: No, there's no challenge. Once you start drinking, Crystal, you start blabbing. And the last thing we need is for you to spill the beans about what you did to Marlena.

Crystal: Marlena, schMarlena. No one is interested.

Nicole: Oh, I don't know. I think John and Brady would be mighty interested to hear how you set her up to make it look like she was escaping so she'd get shot.

Crystal: You mean how you set it up so I would do it. Relax, Nicky. There's no one here listening, even if I did blab.

Nicole: There are servants, and you never know what someone might hear.

Crystal: Well, I'm bored, and I want to go out. Huh, look at this -- the opening of Alice's bar. Now that looks like the kind of place where I could really rock my plimsolls. And speaking of rock, I wouldn't mind finding myself between a rock and a hard place, if you know what I mean.

Nicole: I don't think that's a good idea.

Crystal: I think it's a great idea. I'm in the mood to par-tay with some of the local talent. And with a little luck, maybe Brady's hunky father John Black will be there.

[Knock on door]

John: Yeah, it's open.

Brady: Hey, dad.

John: What's going on, son?

Brady: Just wanna see what you got.

John: Well, I've just been reviewing all the statements that have been made by the inmates, the guards, and the Salem police department.

Brady: Yeah? What'd you find?

John: Did you know that gun that was found with Marlena up on the rooftop belonged to one of the guards?

Brady: Yeah, we established that.

John: That's a fact. Did you also know that when Marlena was killed, that guard was found in a holding cell with miss Crystal galore? What do you make of that, son? Just another amazing coincidence?

Maggie: You know, after seeing that plaque on Jack and Jennifer's house with her name on it, I thought she'd be here sooner. I wish I knew what was happening. Maybe she's not coming at all.

Alice: Well, I'm worried.

Maggie: I know. So am I. Jennifer had a difficult pregnancy. I wonder if whoever is holding us prisoner here realizes the risk he's putting to Jennifer and her unborn child.

Hope: Are you all right?

Patrick: Stop the plane!

Hope: All right! Easier said than done. God.

Jennifer: Davies, you are going to stop this plane right now!

Davies: No way, missy. Now get back to your seat.

Jennifer: No! I am not going anywhere.

Davies: Look, I don't want to hurt you, but I will if I have to. Now get back to your seat.

Rex: What can I do you for?

Lucas: Uh, give me a Cosmo and your strongest club soda.

Rex: Cosmo and soda, coming up.

Lucas: Thanks. You know, Manda is the new V.P. of nursing at the hospital.

Sami: Isn't that fascinating?

Lucas: You know what that means, don't you?

Sami: No. What?

Lucas: That means she knows exactly how and where to deliver the tlc that little daddy here needs.

Sami: Go to hell, Lucas.

Lucas: Oh, am I upsetting you? Because your little plan to turn Manda against me backfired, Sami? It was really easy. All I did was tell her you were a petty, selfish, jealous woman who couldn't stand for me to be happy.

Sami: Well, it seems like you have all the answers.

Lucas: Want to know what Manda said?

Sami: I don't give a crap what Manda said.

Lucas: She said she understood. She understood why you said those things about me, because, let's see, in her exact words, you're nothing but a cold-hearted bitch.

Sami: You know, I don't think those were Manda's words. She doesn't even know me.

Lucas: You're so famous in this town that people don't even know you know what you're about.

Sami: If you hate me so much, why are you even talking to me?

Lucas: I don't hate you.

Sami: I don't know what you're so mad about. It's not like I broke up with you.

Lucas: No, you just cheated on me.

Sami: God, Lucas! I was talking to a guy in a bar.

Lucas: Talking? You were kissing. You were kissing a guy in a bar.

Sami: On the cheek! I barely even know his name.

Lucas: You don't know the guy? You don't have any real feelings for him? Is that supposed to make me feel better? You know what? Forget it. Forget it. I'm done. Bottom line is, Sami, is you need help, and I'm not the one who's gonna give it to you. So you go find your boyfriend. Kiss him. Screw him, for all I care.

Sami: Screw you, Lucas.

Rex: Manda sure is beautiful.

Sami: Screw you, too, Rex!

Rex: Huh?

Lucas: Oh, no, no. You're right, Rex. She is beautiful. She's honest, too. Honesty -- that's something I haven't seen too much of lately. But you know what? I don't know what I'm doing here. I'm out. This is over. I'm not standing here wasting my breath talking to you anymore.

Bonnie: Here's your change.

Rex: Thanks. Sami is the most stubborn person I've met in my whole life.

Bonnie: Tell me about it. I don't know why I thought I could get through to her. She is her own worst enemy. As far as I'm concerned, she deserves every bit of misery she gets.

Woman: So, who is he? Don't tell me. He's the one that got away, right?

Nicole: Are you crazy? The last person you should be hanging out with is John Black.

Crystal: He's a hunk.

Nicole: Why don't you start thinking with your brain instead of your libido? He's suspicious of you already. I am telling you, the best thing for you to do is to take all the jewellery and all the credit cards I gave you and get the hell out of dodge.

Crystal: No, Nicole, that would be the silly thing to do. If I split now, it would be like putting up a billboard saying, "I'm guilty and panicked." Big mistake.

Nicole: No. The big mistake would be for you to start hanging out with John.

Crystal: Well, in case you've forgotten, John totally bought my story about how I became dear friends with his beloved Marlena and how she believed he betrayed her.

Nicole: You think so?

Crystal: Trust me, I'm not a suspect. He's a man. I know his kind. And he thinks I'm completely innocent. At least when it comes to the unfortunate death of his little wifey.

Nicole: I wouldn't be so sure of that.

Crystal: Well, if there's one thing I know, Nicole, it's the opposite sex.

Nicole: Well, then you don't know John Black. He's a spy, for God's sake. He must have a brain up there somewhere. I mean, what if -- what if he was pretending to buy your act so that you let your guard down?

Brady: All right, dad, hang on a second. You're trying to tell me that the guard Marlena allegedly knocked out was found locked in Crystal's cell?

John: That's a fact, Brady, and I don't think it was happenstance.

Brady: Yeah, me neither. What was in the guard's statement?

John: I'll tell you exactly what he said.

Brady: Yeah, tell me what he remembers.

John: He says, and I quote, "Dr. Marlena Evans knocked me out, stole my gun, stole my keys, and then locked me in a cell with miss..."

Brady: Crystal galore. You've got to be kidding me. But, dad, think about this. That means that Crystal was locked up at the time that Marlena was shot.

John: We know that Crystal did not pull the trigger herself, but --

Brady: Yeah, what?

John: It's become very clear to me someone set doc up to die. Now, Crystal didn't do this alone, but I'll bet my life she knows something about it.

Brady: So what the hell are you gonna do about it?

John: Well, I would like to call this guard Earl and bring him down here and ask him a few questions.

Brady: But?

John: But I talked to the warden. Earl's been suspended. He's rather ticked off about that, and he's not willing to cooperate.

Brady: Well, yeah, you gotta figure out what he knows.

John: Well, I got a feeling if I push, though, he's gonna clam up, especially if he's withholding something.

Brady: Well, you must have a plan.

John: Oh, yeah. I'm gonna become Earl's new best friend... and benefactor.

Crystal: That's where you’re wrong, Nicole. You see, I may not have a sumo cum loudly from some Ivy League college, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a master's in male manipulation. And I happen to know that John Black fully swallowed my thesis, baby. Face it, when it comes to men, I know their weaknesses and their strengths -- which I can also take full advantage of. Take that guard Earl. His eyes were rolling back in his head in ecstasy when I set Marlena up to be shot.

Earl: Dr. Evans is locked...

Crystal: Shh!

Earl: Tight in a secure area in cell block 2.

Crystal: Great. Now where were we? Ha ha ha.

Earl: Well, I never made it with a celebrity before. You give a whole new meaning to the word "quickie."

Crystal: So do you, honey.

Crystal: Buh-bye. Come again.

Nicole: And that's another thing, Crystal. What about that guard? What if he talks?

Crystal: Oh, you don't have to worry about Earl. See, if he admits that he slept with an inmate, he would not only lose his job, but he would probably get arrested. And if his wife finds out that he cheated on her, she's probably give him the old bobbitt-ectomy, and use it as a key chain, if you know what I mean. Nah. We don't have to worry about Earl.

Brady: I got to agree with you, dad. Crystal is a piece of work. I mean, she really played off of your guilt for turning in Marlena to the cops.

John: Yeah, she did. But I don't believe for a second that Marlena was trying to escape from jail so she could come after and kill me. Doc was petrified in that jail, son. But the last time I visited her, she was just so resigned. And it wasn't any act. She wasn't plotting to break out of prison. Hell, she was in maximum security. So you tell me, how did she knock out a guard twice her size and get her hand on his gun?

[Knock on door]

John: It's open. Come on in.

Earl: The security guard downstairs just told me to come on up.

John: Yeah. Earl, I'm John Black. This is my son Brady.

Earl: Hey.

John: Come on, sit down. Make yourself at home.

Earl: Sorry.

John: Sorry about what?

Earl: Well, I had a couple of beers.

John: Ha ha ha. Couple?

Earl: Well, maybe a couple more than a couple. But things haven't been so good lately. You know, I got suspended from my job, and my wife -- well, she ain't exactly the understanding kind. So it helps take the edge off a little.

John: I understand that. I'm sorry, Earl. I know things are probably tough on you right about now.

Earl: Yeah, it is. Look, Mr. Black, I'm real sorry about everything. But if this has anything to do with your wife, I already told the higher-ups everything I know.

John: I know, I know. You've already been put through the wringer. That's not what this is about.

Earl: Then why'd you want to see me?

John: Well, as I understand it, you were just doing what you had to do, and I feel bad about you being suspended.

Earl: No kidding?

John: No kidding. In fact, I'd like to talk to you about giving you a job here.

Maggie: You know, when Jennifer married Jack...

Alice: Thank you.

Maggie: I had my doubts. I mean, he hurt my daughter Melissa. I never thought he was husband material. Or a reasonably decent father, either. And then Abigail was born, and he was so sweet and kind and gentle. And perfect.

Alice: [Chuckles]

Maggie: Oh, Jack -- he sacrificed so many years of Abby’s childhood. It was such a waste. But then, Jack and Jennifer had a second chance. He deserves to see this new child, Alice.

Alice: He certainly does.

Maggie: We all do. I pray that Jack is all right.

Alice: Yes.

Maggie: And we need to pray that he gets off this island and reaches Jennifer before whoever is doing this fakes her death and brings her here.

Davies: Get back to your seat! What the hell is that crazy woman doing? She's turning right in front of me.

Lucas: I have got to know more about you.

Manda: Like what?

Lucas: Well, your hopes, your dreams, your phone number, your next weekend off -- anything.

Sami: What makes you think I'd be interested in a jerk like that?

Woman: By the expression on your face. My name is Elaine.

Sami: Okay.

Elaine: I know your look. I know just what you're feeling. Just like you, I'm a loser in love.

Sami: I'm not a loser, okay?

Elaine: Okay. Okay. Bad choice of words, maybe. But I sure am, and, uh, there's nothing I can do about it.

Sami: Tough break.

Elaine: Yeah, it is. But it may not be too late for you. You want to hear what not to do about it?

Sami: Well, if it'll make you feel better to get it off your chest.

Elaine: I had this guy that I adored. And he adored me. But I was ambitious, and I had things I wanted to accomplish before I settled down.

Sami: Well, it's always good to have goals. I have things I want to accomplish before I settle down, too. Like destroying Lucas's bitch of a mother.

Elaine: But the problem was I gave up one to get the other. I put my relationship on hold while I took the fast track. You know, the, um, the take-no-prisoners approach to my career.

Sami: Sometimes you have to make choices.

Elaine: Exactly. But I was so caught up in what I was doing, that while I was getting where I wanted to at work, my boyfriend was long gone, and I barely noticed.

Sami: Sounds to me like you didn't really love him.

Elaine: Oh, but I did. I did. I just thought that I could do whatever I wanted, and that love would be there waiting for me when I was ready. But it wasn’t. I was wrong, and it was the biggest mistake of my life. And from the way that you're looking at that guy over there, you may be letting him out of your life, too, and you may find that it's the biggest mistake of your life.

Earl: So you're offering me a job?

John: Whoa, big guy. I said I want to talk about it. I think I might be able to use someone like you on my security team, that is, until they review your case and reinstate you at the jail.

Earl: Think they're going to let me go work back at the jail?

John: Hell, stranger things have happened.

Earl: I mean, I was kind of responsible for the escape of the Salem stalker. I mean, at least, that's what they say. Uh, no offence, Mr. Black. I know it was your wife and all.

John: Yeah, Earl, the way I see it, you were just doing your job.

Earl: You got that right.

John: And it also says here somewhere in your statement that you -- that you admitted that you were caught in a rather embarrassing situation when they found you locked in a cell with a miss -- what was her name -- ah. Crystal galore.

Earl: Yeah, well, I mean, like the statement said... Dr. Evans came, and she knocked me out and then stole my keys and my gun and then locked me in the cell with that woman.

John: And Crystal had nothing to do with that.

Earl: No, nothing at all. I mean, she's as innocent as I am.

John: All right.

Earl: Oh, well, you got to believe me.

John: I do believe you. Yeah, I do. I tell you what -- what do you say you and I go have a drink and talk about your job?

Earl: Does that mean you're buying?

John: Wouldn't have it any other way.

Earl: Well, that sounds like a genuinely fine idea, then.

John: Well, I'm glad you concur. I'll tell you what -- why don't you wait outside, I'll finish up a few phone calls, and I'll be right there.

Earl: Yes, sir.

[Cellular phone rings ]

Crystal: Hello.

John: Crystal, it's John Black.

Crystal: Oh, I was hoping it was you. Um, just the sound of your voice makes me breathe a little heavier.

John: How'd you like to meet me for a drink?

Crystal: I think I could squeeze in some time for you.

John: Squeeze me in? Ah, I like the sound of that.

Crystal: Ha ha.

Nicole: Who the hell is that, Crystal?

John: Crystal? Crystal, are you still there?

Nicole: Who is it, Crystal?

Crystal: It's a parole officer. Ooh.

Nicole: You're sounding awfully friendly.

Crystal: Well, it never hurts to kiss a little butt, you know. So when did you want to schedule that meeting?

John: Is someone there?

Crystal: Yes, that's right. When would be a good time for you?

John: How about right now?

Crystal: I think that could be arranged.

John: I was over at Alice's a little while ago, and it's almost as hot as someone else I know.

Crystal: Ha ha. Uh, you have no idea.

John: Oh, but I can imagine, can't I?

Crystal: I think you should. I'll see you soon.

John: Son, I think it's going to be fairly interesting when Crystal galore meets up with her old friend Earl.

Crystal: Damn parole board just keeps checking up on me. That's another reason why I can't leave town right now.

Nicole: Oh, come on. You have enough of all that jewellery and all those credit cards to make it impossible for the parole board to find you. You could go anywhere.

Crystal: Maybe I like it here. Maybe I don't want to be on the run. Ah, Nicky, if we're not going to go out and party, I think I'm just going to go up to bed. Night, Nicky.

Elaine: I'm telling you, don't let love pass you by. You've got to grab it while you can. And don't think that there's anything more important, because there isn't, and if you don't go for it now, you're going to wind up just like me -- with nothing but a title and a paycheque to keep you warm at night.

Sami: Okay, well, it's been nice talking to you.

Elaine: Mm-hmm.

Sami: Thanks for sharing.

Alice: I wonder if Tony knows more than he's telling us.

Maggie: Probably. Alice, I hate to even say this out loud, but do you think Jennifer's pregnancy might be the reason she's being brought here?

Alice: What do you mean, dear?

Maggie: Well, maybe they want this baby, this child to be born here, to live out his or her life in captivity.

Hope: Hold on! Hold on!

Davies: Aw, to hell with this. I'm taking off.

Jennifer: Oh!

Lucas: It's, um... it's getting kind of late. You still want to go back to my place?

Manda: You do have your own place, don't you?

Lucas: Absolutely. My son's away at camp.

Manda: And no wife, right?

Lucas: Nope.

Manda: Perfect.

Lucas: Mm.

Bonnie: [Sighs] Do you think you got through to Sami at all?

Elaine: I don't know. I gave it my best shot.

Bonnie: At least we tried. Thanks for doing that. I appreciate it. Drinks on the house.

Elaine: Ooh, thank you, Bonnie. Anytime I can help, hmm?

Bonnie: Thanks.

Rex: I can't believe it. You were so mean to Sami before, but you're still trying to get through to her. That's why you sent the woman to talk to her, 'cause underneath it all, you're a real romantic, aren't you?

Bonnie: You keep your damn trap shut about that, you hear?

Rex: Sure.

Bonnie: Good.

Earl: Nice bar.

Brady: Yeah, it is.

Earl: Didn't it used to be some snooty gourmet restaurant?

John: Yeah, it's under new management.

Earl: Damn. Whoo-wee.

John: Come on, Earl. Get your tongue back in your skull. You're a happily married man, remember?

Earl: Yeah. So, uh, what about that drink?

John: Go on over to the bar. Order anything you want. I'll be right there.

Earl: Give me your most expensive bourbon.

John: As soon as Crystal shows up and she and Earl see each other, we're going to have a pretty good idea if Crystal set up Marlena to die.

Brady: How are you so sure Crystal's going to show her face here?

John: Come on, kid. Scan the package, will you? What self-respecting porn star would pass up on a stud like me, huh?

Brady: [Snorts]

Nicole: Crystal, is that you?

Sami: [Sighs] Are you saying I'm the one breaking will's heart? Because you have a lot of nerve here, Lucas. Who broke up with whom here?

Lucas: You know what? I'm not getting in a relationship with -- with a girl who fools around with strangers in a bar. As far as I'm concerned, this breakup's totally on you.

Sami: [Sobbing]

Manda: Before we go in... I'm glad your son's away at camp... but what about his mother?

Lucas: Don't you worry about his mother. She knows our relationship is over. In fact, it never even started.

Manda: Well? Aren't you coming in?

Lucas: You bet. You bet I am.

Rex: You know, I was hoping to have some kind of semi-sibling relationship with Sami, but I just didn't know how to get through to her. But what you did -- that was really smart and nice.

Bonnie: I thought we were going to keep this to ourselves.

Rex: Why don't you want anyone to know?

Bonnie: Are you kidding? I have a reputation to uphold.

Nicole: Damn it, Crystal, where the hell did you sneak off to? If you do something stupid, we're both dead.

Brady: Look at Earl. He looks a little nervous.

John: Yeah, he'll be a hell of a lot more nervous as soon as Crystal shows her pretty little face in here.

John: Speak of the devil.

John: Yeah, looks like guilt to me.

Brady: Guess it does.

John: I got to figure out what Crystal and Earl's story is, and I might be able to figure out how and why Marlena died. I'm going to need your help, kid.

Maggie: [Sighs] The thought of a baby being here on this island is horrible. I mean, it's wonderful for us. I never thought I'd see a little one again. But I would never wish this fate on an innocent child. If Stefano has anything to do with this... God only knows what he has in store for this baby. I mean, look what he did to cassie and Rex. He robbed them of their childhood. He corrupted them. Oh, my God. Oh, it's just too -- too horrible a thought to even put into words, isn't it? But I just can't help thinking about the potential complications to Jennifer. As far as I know, there are no medical facilities. Marlena is the only doctor, and she's a psychiatrist. And what happens if Jennifer gets here and she does have complications with her pregnancy and the birth?

Alice: All we can do now is pray that our loved ones back in Salem have figured out what's going to happen and found a way -- found a way to stop Jennifer from being taken.

Maggie: Oh.

[Tires squeal]

Patrick: Damn. They got away.

Hope: You took a heck of a fall. Are you sure you're okay?

Patrick: Come on, let's go.

Hope: Where are we going?

Patrick: To the only place where we can find out where they're taking Jennifer.

Hope: Where is that? What do you know about all of this?

Patrick: Are you coming?

Hope: You're not going without me.

Davies: Hey, missy. You all right back there? Crap. Uh-oh. Jennifer. You okay? They're not going to be happy about this.

“Next on Days Of Our Lives”

John: With your help, we may just nail both Crystal and Nicole before the night is over.

Nicole: You have to make sure you don't go anywhere near that guard again, and I know the perfect way to guarantee it.

Roman: Abe and I have been working on an escape plan ever since we got here.

[Leaves rustling]

Roman: Who's there?
