Philip: I'm sorry.

Belle: Sorry for what? Philip, I love you, too. I know what you meant. We're friends.

Philip: Yeah.

Belle: Besides, you were just telling me last night that you're interested in someone else.

Philip: Please forget that I said that. Just forget it.

Belle: I don't understand what's wrong with you. This is not like you just to give up. Why don't you tell this girl how you feel? What have you got to lose?

John: You raised great kids, Kate.

Kate: Speaking of great kids... I adore Belle, and I happen to think she and Philip would make the sweetest couple. Of course, we wouldn't want to live our children's lives for them, right? God forbid we should tell them what to do.

John: I think I'm taking the wrong tack with Brady, especially where Nicole's concerned. The kid doesn't want to move out of Victor's mansion. He doesn't want to listen to reason at all.

Kate: Victor had the very same problem... and you remember what happened to him. Take it from one who knows -- your family has had more than enough tragedy. Don't let Nicole destroy your son.

Nicole: Brady, I'd be the happiest person in the world if we all could agree on how best to honor your grandfather's memory, and I plan to do whatever I can to that end. I just hope the rest of your family doesn't disappoint you.

Brady: My family wants to honor my grandfather's wishes, and there's no doubt that my grandfather wanted that concert hall completed and Chloe to return to Salem as the artist-in-residence. I don't know why they'd stand in the way.

Nicole: [Thinking] Oh, won't you be surprised.

Bo: Nicole Kiriakis. How dare she show her face at these parties using my father's name? I mean, she stole from his fortune to hire his assassin. But where did she find this person to help her commit murder -- someone with no criminal record? I mean, she's got no friends.

Tek: She's gonna make a mistake, Bo. She probably already has.

Bo: Yeah, and we gotta capitalize on that. I will not let the merry widow use my father's fortune to get away with murder.

Abe's voice: "More than anything, I want you and Theo to have a wonderful life. So if you find a -- a man you can love, someone who will love you and our Boy unconditionally... I want you to... move on. Lexie, my darling, I ho y you take my words to heart and know that I will love you always. Your husband and your partner for life... Abe."

Celeste: Dear God.

Lexie: Mom? What is it?

Celeste: I don't know how to tell you this, darling.

Lexie: Tell me what?

Celeste: Abraham's not dead.

Lexie: No. No, thatís...crazy. If only it could be...

Abe: Well, what does it mean? Are we sure that there was no plaque on Jack and Jennifer's house before today?

Roman: Abe, it's engraved with both their names and today's date. What else could it mean except that Jennifer's on her way to this Godforsaken island, too?

Abe: You know, Jack is out there somewhere -- lost in a tropical rain forest, may be dead, for all we know. You know, I tried to stay optimistic for Marlena's sake, but what are the odds that Jack's really going to be able to find his way back here?

Roman: Yeah, he's not exactly the survivor type. I know.

Abe: Do you think Jennifer's had her baby? You know, what if she and Jack are reunited and their children are back in Salem growing up without him? I mean, you talk about hell on earth...

Roman: I know you're thinking about Theo. But we're going back home, partner. We can't let ourselves stop believing that for one second.

Abe: I've been here longer than anyone. How many times did I tell Lexie to... move on with her life if she lost me? You know, if we don't get home soon, there may be nothing to go home to.

Lexie: [Gasps] Uh, uh, uh, I was just bringing these in for you. Sorry. Oh, Abe, I feel so guilty. I know you want Theo to have a father in his life, and I know you want me to be happy... but you were my husband. I'll love you forever. I still can't believe you're gone.

Abe: You know, as much as I hate the thought of Lexie sitting alone pining, it's even worse to think about her with someone else -- happy. Is it wrong of me to think that?

Roman: Of course it's not. Hell, we're alive, damn it.

Abe: You know, Roman, we -- we lost Isaac because Stefano saw fit to play with our lives. We almost lost each other. And then when I think about what he did, he took away everything from you and Kate and your family -- we can't let him do that again. We -- we have to figure out for sure if he's the one behind all this.

Roman: You know what, partner? He underestimates us. We're going to figure out this puzzle. We'll find our way back home, and the only one left to grieve will be the man whose plan we've destroyed.

Nicole: To dreams coming true.

Brady: What we are working on today is my dream. More important than that, it's Granddadís. Excuse me. I have to get ready.

Nicole: Put your tongue back in your mouth and bite it, please.

Crystal: Bite me, Nicky. I can't help being friendly. He's so hot. And Daddy Black, too -- I mean, what a family of studs. I made a movie on this subject once, but it's so much better in real life.

Nicole: I see you've changed into one of the new dresses my money bought you. Does that mean you're going out, I hope?

Crystal: Your hush money is burning a hole in my pocket.

Nicole: Shh.

Crystal: You have to keep paying me if you want me to keep my mouth shut. I've already got my dialogue down if you donít. "John Black, did you know that Nicole set your wife up to be killed?"

Nicole: You left out the part about what you did to Marlena, Crystal. Now, I know you don't want to go back to the other big house. So get the hell out of here before Bo Brady shows up.

Crystal: I'm going. Good luck shagging the buff Boy. But leave the hunky daddy for me, okay?

Philip: Belle, I told you, there's no point.

Belle: You think I don't know what's going on here?

Kate: Love lives? Those are your words. Honey, those are your words. Does that mean that you're in love with Belle?

Philip: Fine, Mom. I love her. Are you happy now?

Belle: This is about Chloe.

Philip: Chloe?

Belle: Yeah, Chloe. You're afraid of being hurt again, so you're not going to give anyone else a chance, and you need to get over that.

Philip: No.

Belle: Philip, you deserve to be happy, and so does the woman that you're meant to spend the rest of your life with.

Philip: Belle, look --

Belle: If anyone deserves the happy ending, it's definitely you.

Kate: I know from personal experience that when you share a child with someone, it's very hard to turn your back on even a very toxic relationship. Lucas has reached the point where... I think he would choose Sami over his own mother.

John: You don't want to ask him to make that choice, do you?

Kate: John, do you think my -- my children take after me? Do you think that they are always going to be... drawn into relationships with people who hurt them?

John: And that's not the story of your life, is it? Is it? Come on, you found love with Roman, didn't you?

Kate: Oh, yeah. I did. But even that ended in tragedy. Oh, God, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

John: Kate, stop. Stop. Stop, all right? Stop. Stop. You have been working 16-hour days, 7 days a week for months now. You're tired and stressed. It's understandable. You know, what you need to do is come up with a new coping mechanism here, one that comes highly recommended by my wife. So as your Boss, I am instructing -- no, I am ordering you, take a break. Go on.

Kate: A break?

John: A break.

Kate: What am I going to do? Where am I going to go?

John: Doesn't matter. Just go anywhere. Just go out -- now. Go on.

Kate: John, no, I have too much work to --

John: Go. Right now. Come on. No arguments. Come on.

Kate: John --

John: Come on.

Kate: Thank you.

[Telephone rings]

Tek: Detective Kramer.

Lexie: Tek.

Tek: Lexie, hey. How's the birthday boy?

Lexie: Uh, well, um... let's just say you're not the only person who got himself covered in day-glo paint.

Tek: Ha ha ha.

Lexie: He's still on a sugar high from his birthday cake, so my mom took him to the mall to burn off some energy.

Tek: Oh, yeah. How's the birthday boy's mom doing?

Lexie: Tired. But, um, I think it might help to get out. I don't know if you have any plans after work. Any chance you might like to join me for a drink at the blue note?

Tek: Sure, yeah, why not? Sounds like a plan.

Bo: Am I the first one here?

Brady: Uh, yeah. Can I get you something to drink or...

Bo: No thanks. Could be poisoned.

Brady: Okay, can we not start that today, please?

Bo: You don't think I'm serious? Your grandfather was one of the most powerful people in Salem, and yet he was killed under his own roof right under your nose. I don't want you or any other family member to be hurt.

Brady: Well, I'm all grown up now, Bo, so you're just going to have to trust me that I know what the hell I'm doing.

Belle: Hey.

Philip: Hey.

Brady: Belle.

Philip: Hope you don't mind I brought her.

Brady: No, not at all. How you doing? You hanging in there?

Belle: Yeah, I guess.

Brady: So tell me.

Belle: No, I still havenít heard from Shawn.

Bo: Yeah.

Brady: I'm sorry about that.

Bo: We haven't heard from him either.

Belle: Well, hope said that you were going to go look for him.

Bo: Yes, I've started an unofficial search, but we've got nothing. Belle, listen -- he could be out of the state. I don't think he knows about your mother.

Brady: Why not? He knew damn well she was going to death row. So why did he decide to disappear from the face of the earth just when my sister needs him the most?

Belle: Brady.

Brady: I'm sorry. I shouldn't be saying that. You don't need him.

Philip: But doesn't he need to be here to cast his vote?

Bo: No, he gave me his proxy before he left.

Brady: Bo, listen, I apologize. I don't want to get off on the wrong foot here.

Bo: Not a problem. It has nothing to do with you.

Nicole: Well, if the happy family's all here, shall we start?

Brady: Mm.

Philip: All right.

Brady: Before we begin, I just want to say that I hope this is all very painless, and, uh... that we can all visit when it's over. You know, the pool hasn't been used all summer long. I just thought maybe if you wanted to bring hope and Zack by.

Bo: Thanks. We'll try.

Brady: It's what my grandfather would have wanted, you know?

Bo: Your grandfather's wishes are first and foremost in my mind.

Brady: Yeah. Okay, um, does anybody have any concerns that they want to bring to the table? Great. This is going to be easier than I thought.

Crystal: How will any of this help you get Brady? He still has a girlfriend.

Nicole: Ha ha. Not for long. When I start world war iii in the house of Kiriakis, that stupid opera house will be dead in the water. [Thinking] Let the games begin.

Brady: Victor Kiriakis took measures before he died to ensure that this project would be completed. Unfortunately, he didn't anticipate that his last will and testament wouldn't be found.

Bo: Imagine that.

Brady: As you know, I have been overseeing the day-to-day business operations of titan industries, and the Isabella Toscana Black Memorial Concert Hall is going to be the focal point of future business right here in Salem.

Philip: I just didn't realize this would cost so much. I mean, this pretty much eliminates the possibility of any other projects for years.

Brady: Yes, but your father planned this and allocated the funds before he died. Plus, he expected the project to pay for itself in the long run.

Bo: And Nicole approves of this?

Brady: Yes, 100%.

Nicole: I would never stand in the way of one of Victor's final wishes.

Brady: And on behalf of my family, may I say that we're all very grateful for the support.

Philip: I'm not.

Bo: Listen, I don't want a dime of Victor's money, but we do need to think about what his real wishes were.

Philip: We all know why he was doing this. He was building that concert hall to keep her away from you. So, basically, he was buying Chloe for you.

Brady: Philip, what the hell are you talking about? Chloe loves me. I was the one who encouraged her to go to Europe to pursue her career. I don't need my grandfather to buy me a girlfriend.

Philip: He bought you everything else. You're living here in his mansion expense-free, Brady, doing some nothing job that he just made up for you. You see, Bo and I are his sons -- a cop and a marine. And I know my dad wanted me to earn every penny, every Victory I had. You know, he never approved of Chloe and me. He didn't even like her. He was just so desperate to keep you away from his wife. And there is no way in hell I am signing away his fortune so Chloe will come running back to you, especially now that you're lusting after that piece of trash. No way in hell.

[Playing slow jazz music]

Kate: This was exactly what I needed. How did you know?

John: Because it is exactly what I needed also. And this time, I promise I will not run out on you.

Kate: Ha ha. You know, every time that I try to do something normal, I always feel guilty, but I guess if you think this is good for me and I think it's good for you, maybe we can cancel out each other's guilt, huh?

John: Kate, I feel guilty every time I look at you, every time I think about what you lost. Now, I know the evidence says that Marlena is responsible, but there are people out there who feel that I am responsible also.

Kate: Well, I donít. You've been through hell, and I would never, ever blame you for what your wife did.

John: I blame myself. I blame myself for not protecting her, for not protecting the victims. And I know that Marlena did not willfully harm anyone, so all I can do now is try to clear her name, because I am desperate for those answers. Aren't we all?

Tek: Hey.

Lexie: Hi. Thanks for coming.

Tek: I like this place. This is nice. You know, I have to say, I was really surprised when you called and said you wanted to -- you wanted to meet me. Pleasantly, of course, but...

Lexie: Good. Ahem. Tek, um... I have to be completely honest with you.

Tek: Please, yeah.

Lexie: Um, well... if I've learned anything these past awful months, the important thing is -- well, the important thing is to, um...

Tek: To...

Lexie: Well, to... not let things go unsaid, especially the feelings that we have toward someone.

Abe: I am desperate to preserve my family, Roman. I've actually found myself wishing that Lexie and Theo would show up here. I mean, that's crazy. How can I wish this kind of life on my wife and child, even for a second?

Roman: Come on, Abe. We've all had those kinds of thoughts. Don't beat yourself up.

Abe: Roman, do you realize of all of our friends and family who were killed, there are no married couples here?

Roman: Except Jack and Jennifer -- maybe.

Abe: And now that Jen's on her way, Jack's gone. I mean, maybe that's the plan. Think about this. You got Doug and Julie, Mickey and Maggie, Caroline and Shawn, you and Kate, and we all thought we'd have happily ever after, at least as close to it as we could possibly get, and we could have, and we should have. Now, what -- what about all the people back in Salem? What if the whole idea was so that our loved ones would move on? Even though we're here, and we're desperate to get back to them before it's too late..

Lexie: Tek... I want to thank you for everything that you've done for me, and especially for Theo. Really, you helped to make his first birthday as special as it could possibly have been. Um... the package that you brought us from Abe with the gift for Theo and the letter for me... well, you -- you can't know how much that meant to me. So I wanted to buy you a drink to show you my appreciation.

Tek: Well, that's real sweet of you, but, you know, you didn't have to do that.

Lexie: Okay, I'm not finished. Um... look, I want to be completely honest about the reason I asked you here. The truth is, uh... I'm using you.

Brady: Philip, you don't want Chloe coming back to Salem, so you're just going to ignore your father's final wishes. It's what Chloe wants, too, but you never really gave a damn about that, did you?

Belle: Brady, come on. We all know that's not true.

Brady: Belle, you're just going to take his side like that?

Philip: Whoa. Since when are there sides? We all want to honor my dad the way he would have wanted to be remembered, Brady.

Bo: Look, there are plenty of worthy causes out there, but like Philip said, we were not prepared for... so much of Victor's funds to be wrapped up in this project.

Philip: We've been researching charities my dad supported. That's why I brought Belle along. There's the free clinic for women, which Marlena did a lot of great work in, and she was also on the Board of titan.

Bo: There are plenty of others.

Brady: [Sighs] First responders.

Bo: People in Salem think of Victor as a criminal and a mobster, but we know him as a proud immigrant, someone who wanted to support this country's heroes.

Nicole: Like you, Bo?

Belle: Well, Philip was also hoping that there'd be funds for families of military stationed overseas.

Brady: Belle, listen to me. You don't want your good friend Chloe, your brother's girlfriend, to come back to Salem?

Bo: Just so we're clear, Belle doesn't get a vote.

Philip: Of course not. But she's the only impartial person here, and I'm interested in what she has to say.

Nicole: [Thinking] I'm not.

Brady: Yeah, Belle, go ahead.

Belle: Well, I hate to say anything, but... this is about family, and I think we'll all agree that it's the most important thing. And I'm sorry, Brady. I just don't think an opera house is worth fighting over, so if you really want to know what I think, I'm going to have to agree with Philip and Bo. And please don't let this tear you apart, because that is the last thing Victor would want his legacy to be.

Brady: I don't think any of you understands how much my grandfather Victor Kiriakis wanted this opera house to be built. He spent the last weeks of his life -- months -- making sure that his plans were carried out. Why would you decide that he wants to leave behind a different kind of legacy, of things that are important to you?

Bo: We need to think about the people who are going to be affected by the decisions we make here today. Should you and Salem's opera fans be the only beneficiaries? Or do you think thousands of needy people should be helped?

Philip: You want to be with Chloe, Brady, go be with her. Good luck. That is, of course, unless you'd rather be with her.

Brady: Philip, you know damn well why I'm not with Chloe. I put her career first, something that you wouldn't do.

Philip: You were lusting after her when Dad was still alive. We all knew it. Chloe probably knows it. It makes us all sick.

Brady: You're wrong, Philip, and I'm not going to waste my breath again denying it.

Bo: You were in bed handcuffed to her the night your grandfather was murdered.

Brady: And it was the last place on earth that I wanted to be.

Philip: Yeah, right.

Bo: You've been defending that lying bitch all along. Your behavior's been a disgrace to your grandfather's memory. I'm sure he'd feel the same way.

Brady: Bo, you are the police commander. You ordered my stepmother shot dead. Havenít you ever heard of innocent until proven guilty?

Philip: Nobody thinks she's innocent, Brady, not even you, if you'd use your head. My God, you took my dad's money, then you took his wife, and then when you were right here, the one person in a position to do anything to save him, you were too preoccupied to help him one damn bit. I'm starting to think that maybe you didn't want to.

Brady: Damn it!

Nicole: Hey, hey, hey, come on, you guys! Knock it off! Stop!

Abe: If there's anything more destructive than taking a life, how about taking away everything a person loves in life? You know, at least death is a fleeting passage -- hopefully to an eternal reward. All we have here is this torture that seems eternal. I'm sorry, Roman. I didn't mean to make you think about what Kate would do if --

Roman: You think I don't already think about that, Abe? All day long, I ask myself, "where is Kate right now?" And I know what she'll do to deal with her grief. She'll work herself to death. And who's there with her wallowing in his own grief, practically crying out for TLC? John Black.

Abe: John and Kate -- now, come on.

Roman: We have the same taste in women, Abe, in case you hadn't realized that.

Abe: Well, and speaking of which, what about you -- staying at Marlena's penthouse, keeping watch? Isn't that exactly the way the two of you met and fell in love in the first place?

Roman: Abe, I'm protecting her. 'Cause God knows what the bastard who's keeping us here wants to do with her.

Abe: Well, we do have one clue. Those pajamas in Marlena's closet are monogrammed with your initials. You know, maybe he's setting you up to fall in love again. And maybe you're taking the bait.

Roman: Abe, don't you insult me.

Abe: Hey... look, look, buddy, how long did you and have you been in love with Marlena? How long do you think that you're going to be able to stand by on this island prison with Marlena before those feelings resurface? Or maybe they've started to already.

Tek: So you're using me, are you?

Lexie: Yeah. Uh, the truth is, I asked you to meet me here because I really wanted to get out, Tek, and it's been so long -- I don't even know what to do. This is so embarrassing. I just didn't want to sit here by myself in a bar. I-I don't know what I would do if a stranger tried to pick me up.

Tek: Well, you used to be a cop. Something tells me you'd know how to take care of yourself.

Lexie: You know what I mean. I can't -- I can't be light-hearted, Tek. You -- you knew Abe. You understand what it was like... what he was like... what he meant to me and Theo. I... I just can't let him go.

Tek: You shouldn't have to. Never.

Lexie: In his letter, Abe asked me to move on. But... Tek, I-I mean -- I can't -- I can't even take his ring off. It just feels to me like he's still alive out there somewhere. I know that's impossible, but... I mean, of course he's alive. He'll always be alive in my heart and in the memories of everyone who knew him. I'll always love him, Tek.

Tek: Of course you will. You have to do this in your own time, Lexie. I mean, I'm sure it's going to be a long time before you're ready to start seeing other men.

Tek: Look, Lexie, if you just want to be friends for now, that's -- then that's cool.

John: Kate, I hear what you're saying. And you're right. I may never find the answers that I'm looking for, but I gotta try.

Kate: Grief is a very strange journey, and I'm sorry that we found ourselves on this long road together, but... it is of some comfort that... we're traveling it together. And for the first time in a long time, I feel like I can be of use to someone else. Thank you for letting me do that. And thank you for doing it for me.

Nicole: You guys, stop!

Belle: Stop it!

Nicole: This is ridiculous!

Bo: Get off! That's enough!

Philip: All right, I'll stop!

Belle: Philip, think of what your father would want!

Philip: All right. The last thing he'd want is these two people living in his house together.

Brady: You lost your privileges to live here, Philip, and you lost Chloe. And he still blames me for this. I don't know how you got into the Marine Corps with all these lies.

Belle: Brady, stop it. That's all in the past.

Nicole: All right, let's find out, okay? Let's find out if miss Chloe is coming ho.. it's time to take a vote.

Nicole: All right, all in favor of funding the concert hall. All opposed. Oh, yeah, a lot of suspense there.

Belle: Okay. Two against two. So what now?

Bo: I have Shawn's proxy. That makes it three against two.

Brady: I don't believe this.

Bo: If you're so concerned about your grandfather's last wishes, why are you still living here in his house with his wife that he was gonna divorce and disown?

Nicole: I'm sorry, Brady.

Philip: Yeah, I'm sorry, too, Brady. I'd like to leave now. You ready?

Belle: Yeah. Brady, um, I'll call you.

Brady: Yep.

Philip: See ya.

Bo: Later. You're not even gonna think about it, are you? You're gonna live here with Nicole to keep an eye on what -- Victor's business? Come on, man, open your eyes before you, too, are dead.

Nicole: I really am sorry, Brady.

Brady: You did warn me, Nicole. I just can't believe that... my family is so determined to ignore my grandfather's final wishes.

Nicole: Because they're jealous. You're the golden child. You have Victor's house and his business and most important, his intellect. And thank God you didn't get his personality like the rest of those cretins.

Brady: Don't disparage my grandfather to me ever again. I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but I don't appreciate being treated like an idiot by you or my family. I am not an idiot. I just want this whole damn thing to be over. If I find out that you had anything whatsoever to do with my grandfather's death, I take after him, and I will have his revenge on you.

John: Kate, I want you to make me a promise. You're not gonna go back to the office.

Kate: Well, I don't know if I can do that. What about you? What are you going to do for the rest of the day?

John: Figure out where I start looking for answers. Find out why my wife, your husband, and all the others had to die. You're gonna have to excuse me. I just forgot about a business call I gotta make.

Kate: Oh. Okay well, then I guess I'll just see you later. You take care. And thank you again.

John: Thank you, Kate.

Lexie: Well, thank you for understanding. You've been great.

Tek: Salud.

Lexie: To good friends. To you.

Tek: To the future.

John: Crystal?

Crystal: Mr. Black, you look almost as good in that shirt as you did in your biking outfit. Almost.

John: Well, thank you. May I buy you a drink?

Crystal: Can you ever.

Roman: Abe, we need a meticulous escape plan. We don't want to wind up like Jack, possibly lying out in that jungle somewhere, dead.

Abe: Yeah. Whoever orchestrated this plan seems to know what we're gonna do before we do. Of course, they know we're not gonna sit around here and wait forever. But would our punishment be the same as Jack's? Would Lexie and Kate wind up here after we're gone?

Roman: So what you're saying, in -- in trying to escape, we could be condemning the women we love to a hopeless future on this island? My God.

ďNext on Days Of Our LivesĒ

Bo: Our son will come back to us. We know it.

Jan: Shawn, what do you think you're doing?

Philip: There is only one girl who owns my heart now. If only I could just figure out a way to tell her how I feel.

John: I just wish there was some way that I could find somebody who would ease my pain.

Crystal: Well, maybe there is.
