[Car engine starts]
Jennifer: Goodbye, uncle Mickey. Good night. Take care.
[Car pulls away]
Jennifer: I'm just glad that this night is over. I really hope that Julie and your mom can get along on the way home, at least be civil to each other. Patrick? Patrick, where are you?
Patrick: Sorry. I was getting my stuff.
Jennifer: Your stuff? Wait, you're still going? But I thought --
Patrick: I really have to leave this time, Jennifer. So, um, I guess this is goodbye.
Lucas: We have kettle corn. Fresh out of the microwave. It's hot -- steamy hot, just the way you like it. Will's in his room right now going through his dvd collection looking for the perfect movie for us to watch together as a family. Look, I really appreciate you letting him stay up so late. It means a lot to me, you know. It gives us a good opportunity to spend time together as a family.
Sami: Lucas, I feel so terribly about -- about shutting down like that in front of him. God, I -- I feel like I'm going crazy, like I'm not myself.
Lucas: Come on, Sami, you just found out that your mom confessed to being a serial killer. And I can't believe it. I still can't believe your mom killed your father.
Sami: Look, I don't want to hear it again, okay?
Lucas: I'm sorry. I didn't mean that.
Lucas: What? What's the matter, you cold?
Sami: No, I'm just thinking about my mom in jail. Lucas, I have this awful feeling. I'm just so afraid that my mom is not going to make it.
Nicole: This is not good. This is so not good. If Marlena goes under the truth serum again, she'll implicate Jan and me in Victor’s murder, and I am dead meat. Oh, but you know what? That is not gonna happen. Sorry, doc. You're almost past your expiration date anyway.
[Cellular phone rings]
Crystal: It's crystal.
Nicole: Crystal, what the hell's going on down there?
Crystal: Don't get your panties in a knot. Our plan is on track. Before the night is over, the cops are going to put more holes in Dr. Marlena than a slice of Swiss cheese.
Nicole: Yes! That is excellent news!
Brady: Ahem. Who are you talking to? Wait, wait. Let me guess. Your partner in crime.
Marlena: Why won't they let me surrender? Why are they trying to kill me?
Hope: You're making a terrible mistake, Bo.
Bo: I've got a job to do.
Hope: Wait. Bo. Bo!
Bo: This is commander Brady. What's going on up there?
Man: We still can't get a clear shot, commander. The prisoner has a gun. Looks like she's preparing to open fire.
Bo: Use extreme caution with this situation. I don't want you guys getting hurt.
Man: Yes, sir.
Bo: This woman is obviously very dangerous. If she makes any threatening moves at all, you shoot to kill.
John: Damn it, Bo, you're not gonna kill my wife, do you hear me?
Hope: John! John!
John: I'm not gonna let you! Do you hear me?
Lucas: Why would you say that? How can you say that? Don't think like that, okay?
Sami: Like what, that everything's going to hell? It already has.
Lucas: That's not true. It's not, Sami. I know things might not look that great for your mom now, but --
Sami: Not look great? Lucas, she's facing a death sentence because she confessed to multiple counts of first-degree murder.
Lucas: They still don't know why she has no memory of killing all those people. All right? There has to be some mitigating circumstance that could sway a judge. John believes that. You heard him.
Sami: God, if John is mom's best defence, then she's in more trouble than we thought.
Lucas: Don't start with that. Don't start with your suspicions about how my mom and John are framing Marlena, please.
Sami: Look, my suspicions are valid, Lucas. Anything is possible. The last couple months have taught us that.
Lucas: My mother was in love with your father. You got that? She's beside herself with grief. There's no way she could have anything to do with Roman's murder.
Sami: I always believed that my mom and dad's love was eternal. And if my mom was so jealous of Kate that it led her to commit murder... it caused her to kill the man who was once the love of her life -- I mean, is that really her motive for killing all those innocent people? If it's true, then my role model for love -- my mom's for my dad -- is completely screwed up, and that is why I don't believe in love anymore.
Lucas: Don't say that.
Sami: How am I supposed to commit to a man? How am I supposed to believe and trust that love is going to work out when it always ends like this? It's inevitable that it's going to turn ugly and tragic and horrible!
Lucas: Sami, come on, it doesn't always turn out that way. You know it doesn’t.
Sami: Oh, God. After everything I went through losing Austin and Brandon -- I mean, that was nothing in comparison to what my mom is going through.
Lucas: You know what? That's totally different. That's an unfair comparison. Your mother's situation is drastically different. Please, don't -- don't you give up on love, okay? It doesn't matter what your mother has done. You got to keep believing.
Lucas: Just give love a chance. Give us a chance.
Nicole: This is getting out of hand, not to mention insulting.
Brady: So who were you talking to?
Nicole: I can't even check my messages without you suspecting me of being in cahoots with my so-called accomplice.
Brady: Answer the question.
Nicole: I am sick of you not trusting me. You have no proof of anything. Victor was trying to blackmail me into signing some pitiful divorce agreement that would have left me with next to nothing. I refused to let him get away with it. So I called his bluff, and lo and behold, I was right. Victor had no evidence that could send me to jail -- none.
Brady: Well, I hope for your sake that's true.
Nicole: You don't have to hope, Brady.
Brady: What about Marlena?
Nicole: What do you mean?
Brady: Well, if -- or should I say when -- the authorities give Marlena the truth serum, will she incriminate you and your phantom accomplice in the premeditated murder of my grandfather? You know, I just can't help but wonder what secrets are buried in Marlena’s subconscious.
John: No way you are going to hurt my wife!
Hope: John, stop it!
John: You're not gonna do it, Bo!
Bo: I'm warning you, man.
Man: Get back! Do you want to press charges, sir?
Bo: No. Let him go.
John: Get your hands off me.
Bo: Better watch that temper, John. No way you can help that precious wife of yours if you're behind bars.
John: What you're doing is wrong.
Bo: Wrong? I have an escaped prisoner who's armed and dangerous.
John: There's something not right about this situation here. She is not a threat to anybody.
Bo: Not a threat? What the hell's the matter with you? She's a confessed serial killer. She has proven to us time and time again that she's willing to take lives in order to protect herself. If she gets away from me tonight, I have every reason to believe she's going to go on killing innocent people.
John: Let me talk to her.
Bo: Let you -- no! You're not safe with her. No one's safe with her!
John: There's nowhere to run. You got her in a secured location. You don't need force.
Bo: I have a sworn duty to protect the people of this city by any means necessary. She escaped from this jail cell. She stole a gun from a guard.
John: Who gave the order to shoot?
Bo: I'm doing this by the Book.
John: Oh, damn the Book, Bo!
Bo: If an escaped inmate refuses to surrender and uses or even implies to use force, endangering the lives of law enforcement officers, we have every right to defend ourselves.
John: And shoot to kill if necessary, right?
Bo: You're damn right!
John: You're carrying this too far here. Marlena may be innocent.
Bo: Innocent? She's doing a hell of a job of convincing me otherwise.
John: She's got no conscious memory of any of these crimes she's committed.
Bo: So she's led you to believe.
John: Will you listen to me? She is a mother. She's a wife, a psychiatrist, a respected member of this community. Not only respected, she is revered. She is adored, and anybody with half a brain can realize that even if she is a serial killer, there's got to be an explanation here. You don't have the facts.
Bo: It is my duty to protect my men.
John: Bo, if you'd just stop talking like a cop and talk to me as a friend right now, which you've been for years -- a loyal friend to me and my wife, and because of that, you're going to give her a chance here, pal.
Bo: Damn it, John, I'm not.
John: Bo, let me go to her. Let me go to her. I can talk to her. I can convince her to surrender to me peacefully. Please.
Hope: Bo, let him do it. Please, let him at least try. It may be the only way to bring her back alive. Let him do it.
Jennifer: You can't leave.
Patrick: Why not?
Jennifer: You didn't say goodbye to your mother. She was just here. You really should let her know.
Patrick: I'll call her when I get settled someplace. Mom's used to my comings and goings -- here one day, gone the next.
Jennifer: Oh. So that's how it is? You just take off?
Patrick: I never stay in one place for very long.
Jennifer: I really wish that you would. I mean, this is all my fault. I know it.
Patrick: What? No, no.
Jennifer: You're leaving because you thought I suspected you of stealing.
Patrick: Jennifer --
Jennifer: And, Patrick, it's not like that at all. I really didn’t. And that's the truth. I always felt that I could trust you, and you have no idea how grateful I am that you brought those Bonds back to me.
Patrick: Jennifer, that's not it. That's not why I'm leaving. And I do believe that you trust me.
Jennifer: Well, that's a relief.
Patrick: We were lucky, though, huh? I mean, that Shawn called me and tipped me off to the guy that did steal your Bonds.
Jennifer: Yeah. Yeah, that was very lucky.
Patrick: Anyhow, uh... I'd better be going.
Jennifer: Patrick... the guy that took the Bonds, did you get a good look at him? Maybe you should call the police with a description.
Patrick: I told you to stay the hell away from Jennifer.
Man: You're supposed to be the one taking orders. I lifted those bearer Bonds as a warning to you. Do your job, or there'll be even bigger trouble.
Patrick: Nah, Shawn's parents are cops. He's gonna take care of that with them. Well, it's late. Uh, I better hit the road.
Jennifer: No! I don't want you to go.
Nicole: You know what, Brady? Why don't you just get out of here? Why don't you leave me alone?
Brady: Nicole -- hey, Nicole, please, hang on! Hang on. I want to believe that you're innocent, okay? I want to believe that deep down that you're a good person.
Nicole: Is it that impossible?
Brady: I'm just reminded of my dad and how much he desperately wants to prove Marlena’s innocence.
Nicole: He still believes in her?
Brady: Yes. Yeah, he still does.
Nicole: Because he loves her with all his heart. But you have no faith in me, no belief in me. Because those feelings aren't there. You don't feel anything for me, do you?
John: I'm begging you, Bo. Let me go up there. I can get through to her. Just give me the chance.
Bo: What if she kills you, John?
John: She won’t.
Bo: She loved Roman. She butchered him.
John: I'll take the risk. What kind of life do I have without her? Just give me the chance.
Hope: Bo, let him try. He's right. What other hope does she have? He can help us. Please.
Man: Commander Brady?
Bo: Go ahead.
Man: Sir, our escaped inmate has her gun aimed at us, but I'm still not able to get a clear shot at her.
Bo: Send a police chopper up there with our best marksman. I'm not taking another chance.
John: No, Bo, don't do this.
Bo: I will not lose another cop. The shoot-to-kill order stands.
John: No, damn it, Bo, come on!
Bo: I'm sorry, John.
John: I can't let you do this, man.
Bo: I'm the cop. You're the civilian. I will not allow you to put your life in danger.
John: The hell with you, man!
Bo: John --
Hope: Bo, let him go! Let him go! Let him go, please.
Bo: Damn it.
Jennifer: Look, listen, Patrick, since you have been here, you have made such a huge difference in mine and Abby’s life, and for the better.
Patrick: I'm glad, but --
Jennifer: No, really, just let me finish. Listen. You have no idea how incredible it has been to have a man in our home. And not just because you're good with a wrench. But that's a good thing, too. Because think about it, my wedding ring, it would still be down the drain if it weren't for you. And -- and the robbery. You saved the day. But most importantly, you saved the life of my unborn baby twice. I don't know what I would do without you here.
Patrick: Jennifer, the truth is, you're better off without me, okay? Your life can get back to normal.
Jennifer: Normal? What is that? What is normal?
Patrick: I'm taking up space here, okay? I'm in the way.
Jennifer: What can I say to convince you? Because it's not like that at all. It is so wonderful having you here.
Patrick: It's for the best. For all of us. Just tell Abby I said goodbye. I really have to go.
Jennifer: Patrick, wait.
Patrick: I'll miss her. I'll miss you, too.
Lucas: No, look at me.
Sami: I am.
Lucas: Give us a chance.
Sami: Lucas --
Lucas: Sami, we've gotten very close lately. I think we can do this. I think we can have a real relationship.
Sami: Don't say that. Don't say it.
Lucas: Why? Why not? Because you don't want to be happy? Is that it? 'Cause you're scared? You're scared to be happy? What is it, some kind of crime with you?
Sami: Lucas, my feelings for you have always been -- they still are -- really messed up. Yes, you are like family. I mean, you're my son's father. And sometimes I really want things to work out between us, at least for will's sake.
Lucas: All right, fine. So let's just try it. Let's see what happens.
Sami: And sometimes my feelings for you, they change.
Lucas: Sami, that's okay. That happens with feelings. Feelings change.
Sami: No, you don't understand. Sometimes, Lucas, I really feel like I want to kill you, and right now that is scaring the hell out of me!
Lucas: Sami, your life is not going to automatically turn out like your mother’s. We've both made mistakes in the past -- big ones. But now here's our chance to make up for that. I really think we can have a great future together if we just open our hearts to each other. Are you willing to do that?
Hope: You've got to let him try. If he can get through to her --
Bo: Marlena is a killer. She's cornered and she's desperate and she's got a gun.
Hope: Bo, for God’s sakes, think for a second. He loves her! He doesn't want her to die. You would do exactly the same thing for me. And would you let anyone stop you?
Bo: This isn't about how much John loves Marlena, or about us. This is about a deranged killer, a monster who has killed innocent people over and over again.
Hope: Bo --
Bo: But it ends here tonight! I will not allow her to kill again.
Marlena: [Screaming] [ Sobbing]
Marlena: Aah! Oh... oh, please. Somebody help me, please!
John: Damn it! Doc! Doc, it's John! Can you hear me? Doc!
Marlena: John, is that you?
John: It's me, ba-- hang on, baby, I'm coming!
Bo: John! Get away from that door!
John: I'm going out there for her.
Bo: I can't let you do that. One.
Brady: Nicole, my dad would give his life for Marlena. That's how much he loves her.
Nicole: You didn't answer my question, Brady.
Brady: Nicole, I'm sure this may come as quite a shock to you, but I don't think I'm willing to go that far for you.
Nicole: You really know how to hurt a girl, Brady.
Brady: I just want the truth, okay? Maybe when Marlena’s heart is strong and they can give her the truth serum again, then we can find out what she knows about my grandfather's murder.
Nicole: [Thinking] Dream on. Marlena’s as good as dead herself.
Brady: [Whistles] Hello. Nicole, you still with me?
Nicole: Yeah. My mind was just wandering -- e-mails I-I should check. [Thinking] Maybe there's some late-breaking news. [Gasps]
Brady: Nicole, what is it?
Abby: I can't sleep. It's making me crazy.
Jennifer: Oh, sweetie, I'm -- I'm sorry. Why don't you, uh, why don't you come and sit?
Jennifer: Is -- is there something upsetting you?
Abby: Just thinking about stuff. Something's upsetting you.
Jennifer: No, no, I'm fine.
Abby: Then what were you crying about?
Jennifer: Oh, sweetie, you know, it's -- it's been a bit of a rough night.
Abby: What happened? Mom, you can tell me. I'm not a little girl anymore.
Jennifer: You are so right. You are not a little girl anymore. You are mature, and you are strong, and -- and I can tell you, and I should. You ought to know the truth.
Abby: Go on.
Jennifer: Marlena confessed to killing your daddy and all the other victims.
Abby: She confessed?
Jennifer: Yeah. They gave her something called truth serum, and under the influence of it, she confessed to being the serial killer. And it was -- it was so hard to hear, because it brought back all these memories of your daddy, and... it just -- it just brought it all back. I'm sorry. I-I know how painful this is for you, and the last thing I should be doing is reminding you of what happened.
Abby: I don't need to be reminded. I think about it all the time.
Jennifer: Of course you do. How could you not, honey?
Abby: What about the baby? The baby's okay, right? I mean, you're not crying over that, too, are you?
Jennifer: No, sweetie. The baby -- the baby is fine, thank God.
Abby: 'Cause of Patrick, right? He helped you?
Jennifer: Yeah. Yeah, he helped me.
Abby: Where is he? Did he go out for the night?
Jennifer: No, sweetie. Uh, Patrick -- he left for good. He's gone.
Abby: What? Gone where?
Jennifer: He just said that it was time to move on, and he told me to say goodbye to you for him.
Abby: Goodbye? You mean you just let him go? Mom, that was a really big mistake.
[Country music playing ]
Patrick: I thought you should know I moved out of Jennifer Deveraux's house. I'm leaving Salem for good.
Man: That's your big news?
Patrick: Think that's funny?
Man: Ha ha. You know I can't let that happen.
Patrick: You don't give me orders.
Man: Is that so?
Patrick: No one tells Patrick Lockhart what to do.
Man: Well, I just did.
Patrick: Well, you made a big, big mistake when you tried to steal those Bonds.
Man: That was just a warning to you to get with the program.
Patrick: Yeah, well, it backfired big time.
Man: We'll see.
Patrick: I told you from the beginning I wasn't going to do anything to hurt her, and I meant it.
Man: So, uh, now you're leaving town.
Patrick: Well, staying with her was putting her at risk. I'm warning you, you stay away from her. If you give Jennifer Deveraux any more trouble, you're a dead man.
Man: We'll see who's the dead man.
Abby: Letting Patrick go wasn't a good idea, mom. I mean, besides the baby, he's been the only good thing that's happened to us since dad died.
Jennifer: Sweetie, listen to me. We knew that Patrick’s stay here was only temporary.
Abby: Wait. Oh, my gosh.
Jennifer: What's wrong?
Abby: What if it's because I did that web search on him?
Jennifer: Oh, Abby, no.
Abby: But I accused him of doing all that bad stuff that I found under his name. And it wasn't until he explained about his identity being stolen --
Jennifer: Abby, that had nothing to do with it. Patrick left for other reasons.
Abby: Then what were they?
Jennifer: I don't know. But I just get the feeling that there was something he wasn't telling me.
Patrick: You sure you want to do this?
Man: Don't make this hard on yourself, man.
Man #2: The less you fight it, the easier it's going to be.
Patrick: That's comforting.
Man #3: Say a prayer, Lockhart. Your time is up.
Lucas: Aren't you going to say anything?
Sami: I don't know what you want me to say.
Lucas: Say whatever you're thinking.
Sami: Lucas, I've really enjoyed us growing closer in the last couple months. But as far as our relationship goes, I have to tell you that --
Lucas: You know what? Forget about that. Don't -- don't even think about the word "relationship." Let's just focus on getting closer, you know? And being there for each other.
Sami: Lucas, that sounds nice, but I don't think that --
Lucas: You know what? Sami, no more words, okay? That doesn't seem to work for us. Whereas this... That works well. Extremely well.
Lucas: Hey. There's the big guy.
Sami: I think the popcorn needs more salt.
Will: Is mom better now?
Lucas: Uh, your mother's going through a real tough time.
Will: Because... grandma's the serial killer, you mean.
Lucas: It must be really hard for you, too.
Will: Yeah. Dad?
Lucas: What is it?
Will: You don't have to treat me like a little kid and tell me what you think I want to hear. You can tell me the truth.
Lucas: All right, buddy.
Will: Do you think that grandma Marlena will end up on death row like mom did?
Lucas: I don't know.
Will: Except no one's going to save her at the last minute. She's really going to die, isn't she?
Pilot: Pilot to commander Brady -- suspect is armed and taking offensive posture.
Man: Holding... holding. Now.
John: Damn it, Bo!
Bo: She'll kill you! Stop!
John: I'm going out there!
Bo: No! No, you won’t.
John: The only way you're going to stop me is if you kill me. Hey, hey, hey, what are you doing?
Abby: I still can't believe it.
Jennifer: Well, neither can I, sweetie, and neither can a whole lot of people. Marlena was such a good, caring person. She was our -- she was our friend. It doesn't even make sense.
Abby: Then how could it have happened?
Jennifer: I don't know. That's -- that's the part that we will never understand. And we have to accept it.
Abby: Mom, please don't cry anymore, okay?
Jennifer: You know, sweetie, I will try not to, all right? How's that? Is that good?
Abby: I wish Patrick didn't have to leave, 'cause I know he made you feel happy. And I wanted to know more about him.
Jennifer: Yeah, so did but, you know, that's the way it goes. I'm sure we'll hear from him at some point. He was so crazy about you. I'm sure he'll call and check up on you, see how you're doing.
Abby: Maybe. He has my e-mail address.
Jennifer: That's right. That's right. He does. All right, well, it is sleepy time for you right now.
Abby: I hope I can.
Jennifer: Well, if you can't, I'll be down here.
Abby: I love you.
Jennifer: I love you, too, sweetie. Right to sleep, okay?
Abby: Okay, okay. I hear ya.
[Car door slams]
[Car drives away]
Jennifer: Oh, my gosh.
Brady: What is it?
Nicole: Uh... spam. And some of it is so obscene. I'll get rid of it later. It's no big deal. Hey, you know what? Spam, schmam, right? From now on, no more sweating the small stuff. No more worrying. Yeah. I feel much better already.
Lucas: It's true, will. Things don't look that good for your grandma Marlena. But we're not going to give up on her, okay?
Will: What do you think's going to happen?
Lucas: Buddy, I don't know. I don’t. I know John's out there. I know he's trying to defend her. He's trying to clear her name. We just got to hope for the best, okay?
Sami: Yeah, your dad is right. We, um, we have to hope and keep praying. The truth is going to come out, will. I know that it wasn't my mom in that hospital room confessing. She wasn't herself. Her name is going to be cleared, will, and we just have to keep hoping and praying in the meantime.
Sami: Sounds good.
Lucas: That's a good call. Go ahead, put it in.
Sami: I need my glasses.
Man on tv: Breakout at the county jail. Confessed serial killer Dr. Marlena Evans escaped from her cell tonight. Police say she is armed and considered extremely dangerous.
Marlena: Please, I never meant to hurt anybody! Please! Don't kill me! I want to be there for my children and my husband!
John: I'm coming to get you, doc! Just hold on! Hold on!
Marlena: Hnhn. John, where are you? Oh, John, I need you! I need you!
Marlena: Save me!
Bo: You can't do this, John! If you go out there, you'd be putting your own life at risk!
John: I don't give a damn, Bo. I love that girl, and I'm going to save her.
Bo: What the -- John!
Hope: Let him go! Let him go!
Bo: John! Hold your fire! I repeat, hold your fire!
Man: What'd he say?
Pilot: Commander Brady said, "fire. Shoot to kill."
Jennifer: [Gasps] Patrick! Oh, God. Patrick! Patrick, listen to me. Patrick! No! Patrick, can you hear me? Patrick! Oh! Patrick! Patrick, listen to me. Patrick!
Nicole: You know what? You're right, Brady. The best thing for everyone now is for Marlena to go under the truth serum and see if she can't tell us who killed Victor.
Brady: Are you sure she won't implicate you?
Nicole: Positive. Marlena will never testify against me.
Man on TV: Once again, escaped Salem serial killer Dr. Marlena Evans is armed and extremely dangerous. Police commander Bo Brady has ordered his officers to shoot to kill.
Sami: No, no, they can't kill my mother. Oh.
Marlena: John! Help me!
John: It's all right, doc! I'm right here!
Bo: Hold your fire!
Pilot: She's got a gun. Take her out.
John: Stay there, doc! No, stay down! Throw the gun down now! Get back down!
John: No! No, no, no, no, no, no! No!
“Next on Days Of Our Lives”
Belle: Shawn -- he promised me that he'd come back to me.
Philip: Forget about Shawn, all right? He doesn't deserve you.
Hope: If only you hadn't given that shoot-to-kill order...
John: My wife would still be alive.
Sami: I was lucky to have my mom. And now she's gone, and somebody is going to pay.
