Philip: Thanks.

Man: Don't worry about it. It's been taken care of.

Philip: What do you mean?

Man: Ha ha. You've got an admirer.

Philip: Thank you.

Woman: You're welcome. By the way, I'm Madison.

Philip: Hi. Philip.

Madison: Philip. I've seen you in here before -- always alone.

Philip: It's close to the base.

Madison: No girlfriend?

Philip: I wish.

Madison: Well, your wish may have just come true.

Nicole: Oh, come on, Brady. Why don't you just give it up? Look, if this so-called evidence Victor said he had against me really existed, it would have been in the safe.

Brady: Not necessarily. I know for a fact my grandfather signed a new will, and it wasn't in there, either.

Nicole: If you know for a fact, then where is it?

Brady: That's what I intend to find out, Nicole.

Jan: [Thinking] Holy crap, Nicole -- you're done for. Get the hell out of there now.

Bo: Shawn talked to Brady. Apparently, Nicole was at the mansion all night.

Hope: Well, I guess that pretty much rules her out as a suspect.

Julie: Well, whoever killed my husband, I want her caught, and I want her to pay. And I don't care what you have to do.

Bo: She'll be caught, and she'll pay. If I get to her first, she won't live long enough to go to trial.

Hope: Did you really mean what you just said -- that if you find the killer, you'll take the law into your own hands?

Shawn-D: I'm sorry, okay? I just need to know. Bear with me here. Were you with your mom tonight?

Belle: Yeah, Shawn, I was with her for hours. There's no way she could have done it. There's no way she could have murdered Doug.

Shawn-D: Thank God. Thank God. That's all I needed to know.

Belle: And if you don't believe me, you can just ask my dad. He saw me when he got there.

Shawn-D: I don't need to ask your dad. I trust you. What's wrong?

Belle: Nothing. Why?

Shawn-D: I don't know. You seem tense. Is there something you're not telling me? We promised not to lie to each other, Belle. You are being straight with me, right?

Marlena: John, what are you looking at?

John: I can't help but wonder...

Marlena: Wonder what?

John: Since Belle wasn't with you when Doug was killed...

Marlena: Mm-hmm?

John: Doc, can anyone vouch for where you were and what you were doing about an hour and a half ago?

Doug: Aah! No! Aah, aah, aah, aah!

Marlena: Why would somebody have to vouch for me? John... are you accusing me of something?

Nicole: Brady, come on. You're wasting your time. Look, Victor would never hide anything in there. Oh, my God! What is this?

Brady: What? What?

Nicole: Wait, this file -- I've never seen it before.

Brady: Let me see it. Nicole, this is nothing. It's just titan stuff. You should know that.

Nicole: Sorry. I was just trying to help.

Brady: And why would you want to do that?

Nicole: If there really is this top-secret bogus file on me floating around, don't you think I'd be as curious as anyone to know what's in it?

[Telephone rings]

Brady: Yes. Hello. This is Brady. Mr. Briscoe, hi. No, no, no, don't worry about it.

Nicole: Okay. He's getting too close. We have to do something.

Jan: No, you mean you have to do something. I'm outta here.

Nicole: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Like hell you are. Look, you're in this up to your ass, the same as me. You're not going anywhere. Not until you do me one last favour.

Hope: Bo, answer me. If you find the killer, did you mean --

Bo: We've seen what happens when this maniac is cornered. Yeah, I'd take her out before I let her hurt me or anyone I care about.

Tek: Sorry to interrupt, but the coroner's team's just about finished.

Belle: [Thinking] I hate lying to you, Shawn, but I just know my mom cannot be the killer.

Shawn-D: Poor Julie. I don't know what she's going to do without grandpa.

Belle: I know. It's so sad. They've been together forever.

Shawn-D: Listen, getting back to what I was saying --

Belle: Shawn, I'm telling you the truth. I was with my mom. It would have been impossible for her to have murdered your grandfather here at the cemetery and then have made it back to the penthouse by the time I got there. Why can't you just accept that?

Shawn-D: Forgive me, okay? I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't trust you.

Belle: It's okay. I understand.

Shawn-D: You said you were with your mom. That's all I need to know. I know the last thing in the world you would do is lie to me.

John: Doc, all I'm asking is if anyone saw you before Belle arrived.

Marlena: I don't know. I, uh, I got home pretty late. John, I-I told you that I went to see Belle, then I went to the hospital, and I saw Julie.

John: Mm-hmm. And then?

Marlena: And then I came home.

John: You were here, and I'm sure the doorman must have seen you come back. I'll just call downstairs and have him verify.

Marlena: No. No. He can't do that. I -- I, uh, I parked in the garage and took the elevator up, so... oh, my gosh. Nobody saw me.

John: No one?

Marlena: Why are you asking me all these questions? Is there some kind of an ongoing investigation here?

John: No, no, of course not. It's just that I know you spoke with Julie tonight, and we're trying to develop a timeline, that's all. Just thank God that you were home safe and sound. I wish that Doug would have used the same common sense and stayed home himself.

Marlena: Yeah, so, why would he go walking in the cemetery by himself? Why would anybody do that?

John: That's what I've been wondering.

Marlena: Why don't I make you a pot of tea? Come on. You've been through such an ordeal. This will help calm your nerves, okay?

John: Sounds good, doc.

Marlena: Yeah. I'll, uh, I'll get it, and I'll be right back.

John: Okay.  Aah, she can't be the killer. That's just impossible. That's -- that's impossible. I know what I saw, damn it. I -- or did I? I know a way to find out for sure. [Sighs] I don't know what the hell I'm looking for, and I just pray to God it's not here.

Belle: Um, I want to go talk to your mom and Julie, just tell them how sorry I am.

Shawn-D: Okay. Listen, I'm sorry, too, because I know I upset you.

Belle: Hey. It's okay, really. I'll be right back.

Bo: Son, how you holding up?

Shawn-D: Okay, I guess. I just want to know how grandpa and the killer ended up here.

Bo: Yeah, you and me both. Obviously, this killer is someone that Doug trusted enough to be alone in a deserted cemetery late at night.

Shawn-D: But he would have had to accuse her of being the killer, right? 'Cause how else would she have known that he knew?

Bo: That is the $65,000 question.

Shawn-D: Yeah, but, dad, think about it -- why would he have accused her all by himself? Because he had to have known that he was taking his life in his own hands.

Bo: Well, apparently, she's someone that he knew very well, he never thought would hurt him.

Shawn-D: Yeah, yeah, someone like, uh...

Bo: Someone like... if you've got a theory, speak up.

Shawn-D: Well, no, I-I did, I did, but Belle convinced me that I was way off base. What I was thinking, dad --

Tek: Bo, Bo, looks like we got something.

Bo: What is it?

Tek: The coroner found evidence of fresh dirt and sod underneath Doug’s fingernails.

Julie: Who did this to you, darling? What heartless monster could kill such a... dear and loving man?

Marlena: What are you doing?

John: Just looking for an old jacket I thought I might have left behind.

Marlena: You're not looking for the coat that I might have been wearing tonight, hmm?

John: No.

Marlena: I don't believe this, John. You came here looking for evidence.

John: Oh, come on.

Marlena: Oh, go ahead, go ahead. Search everywhere. Search to your heart's content. You'll find nothing belonging to the killer in this apartment. But come on, John. Go everywhere. Come on. Why don't you just ransack the place? Go ahead. Tear it apart. I've got nothing to hide.

John: I know you don’t. I didn't come here to upset you.

Marlena: Upset me? That's putting it mildly. Shawn was one thing, but you, my husband, thinking that I could be a killer?

Philip: Thanks for the beer, but I'm just not real good company tonight. Maybe you'd have a better time with one of the other guys from the base.

Madison: Except I'm not interested in them. I'm interested in you. You're, um, different from those other guys.

Philip: I'm different.

Madison: Yeah, you're not your average enlisted man. You come from money.

Philip: And how do you know so much about me?

Madison: honestly? I'm sort of a fan.

Philip: What?

Madison: I-I have been ever since I saw you on that hokey reality show "love is blind."

Philip: Oh, my God, no.

Madison: Don't be embarrassed. The show was lame, but you were awesome.

Philip: Yeah, I was awesome. Right.

Madison: So, um, how did it work out with that girl, the one you picked? Don't tell me you're another Andrew and jen or bob and Estella or Evan and zora --

Philip: No, I hate to burst your bubble, but it didn't work out between the two of us. She was taken, and I knew that.

Madison: Mm. And yet you picked her anyway, which either means you're a masochist, or you had major hots for her. And by the look on your face, I'm guessing it's the latter, and you still do.

Philip: No. No, no, no. She and I -- we just weren't meant to be. But that's okay, 'cause I just really want her to be happy.

Madison: And who's going to make you happy, Philip?

Philip: You know, I really just think I'd be better off alone, especially tonight. Believe me. I mean, I'm sorry.

Madison: Well, nobody's better off alone. In fact, I'm almost positive I could help take your mind off whatever's got you so down.

Philip: Somehow I doubt that.

Madison: Why don't you try me? Let's dance.

Brady: No, Mr. Briscoe, I couldn't agree with you more. My grandfather signed that will. It's got to be here in the house somewhere.

Nicole: Shh, shh, shh. Now is not the time to bail on me, Jan. I need you.

Jan: I already killed your loser of a husband, and isn't that enough?

Nicole: Listen to me. If you know what's good for you, you will do what we agreed on.

Jan: But why? Why? Brady is in there.

Nicole: Right. You leave Brady to me, and I will get him out, but I need you to sneak in there and get Victor's will, the videotape, and the file. It is behind the sofa cushion just like I said. Make sure that you get rid of all the evidence. Burn it in the fireplace. You understand me? I need you to get rid of every scrap of incriminating evidence.

Jan: What if I get caught?

Nicole: Well, what if your precious Shawn Brady finds out that you killed his grandpa Victor?

Jan: He'd hate me.

Nicole: That's right. So I suggest you suck it up and listen to what I'm telling you.

Jan: All right, all right, fine. Where is Brady going to be while I am burning the stuff?

Nicole: Don't worry. I'll keep him busy... upstairs.

Brady: All right, I'll talk to you later.

Nicole: What's wrong?

Brady: I found something. All the proof I need.

[Country music playing ]

Madison: Ha ha ha.

Madison: Oh. You've got some nice moves, marine. Ha ha. Only problem is your heart's not in it.

Philip: Well, I tried to tell you that --

Madison: Are you sure you don't have a girlfriend or... I don't know, someone you're hung up on?

Philip: Trust me, there's no one.

Madison: Ha ha. Want to bet?

Philip: Wait, what are you -- what are you talking about?

Madison: I'll bet that I can prove there's a girl in your life, someone who's totally stolen your heart.

Philip: Well, that's a bet that you'd lose.

Madison: Oh. So are we on?

Philip: I don't know how you'd prove it.

Madison: But if I do, you'll be square with me, right? You'll be honest?

Philip: Sure. Whatever. Yeah.

Madison: Okay. So hand over your wallet.

Brady: I found this in my grandfather's desk. It's paperwork for a trust that he was setting up for Philip. However, it's contingent upon a will.

Nicole: So?

Brady: So that's more proof that my grandfather signed a new will before he died. Now, his lawyer gene Briscoe is positive that Granddad kept the only copy. Therefore, it's somewhere in this house.

Nicole: I still say it would have been kept in the safe.

Brady: What are you doing?

Nicole: Nothing. I was just thinking that you've pretty much looked everywhere here. Maybe we should try your grandpa's room.

Brady: What makes you think it's going to be there?

Nicole: Well, let's face it -- unless those papers were in the safe, Victor wouldn't have left them lying around down here where I could have found them.

Brady: You wouldn't be trying to get me out of here, would you?

Nicole: Well, if it makes you feel better, I'll go upstairs with you.

Brady: Fine.

Jan: [Thinking] Why am I not getting a good feeling about this? Maybe I should just bag it and get while the getting is good. Then again, if Nicole follows through on her threat, I'd lose Shawn forever.

Shawn-D: How did dirt get underneath grandpa's nails?

Bo: We found his blood in one of these open graves. We think it's possible he was struggling with the killer and fell in or was pushed.

Shawn-D: Well, how about the sod? There's no grass 6 feet under.

Tek: It's possible he got the grass under his nails when he was climbing out of the grave.

Bo: Yeah, that's true, but I don't think this is a clue that's going to help us solve this case.

Tek: Yeah, I'll keep working on it.

Bo: All right, thanks, man.

Doug: But it is a clue. The message I left will lead you straight to the killer. There it is. The answer you're looking for is right there. And someone better find it -- and soon.

Julie: This is so strange. I-I feel Doug’s presence. I mean... right now, like he's -- like he's calling out to us.

Belle: Julie, hope, I'm so sorry for your loss, and if there is anything I can do...

Julie: Oh, Belle, thank you. You're so much like your mother, so -- so thoughtful and caring. I can't tell you what a comfort she was to me earlier tonight when I went to see her when I was so worried about Doug.

Shawn-D: Are you saying that you were with marlena before grandpa...

Julie: Yes. I went to her office. It was very late, but I was just a wreck.

Shawn-D: Of course. What did you say to her?

Julie: Well, I told her Doug knew who the killer was, and how frightened I was.

John: Oh, hey, hey, slow down. Take it easy. Doc, come on.

Marlena: No. Why don't you tell me the truth? You came here to ransack the place and find clues. You think that I'm the killer.

John: Oh, stop it, will you? Come on, I love you. You're my wife, the mother of my child.

Marlena: You stop it. At the least, you think that I'm a suspect, so why don't you admit that? Tell me the truth. Don't I deserve that?

John: You're right. You do deserve the truth. Tonight at the cemetery, after Doug was killed, I saw something. Doc?  For a split second, I saw the killer, doc... and I thought it was you. -Look at this...-what?

Madison: Don't worry. I'm not going to rip you off.

Philip: Mm.

Madison: I just know that if there is someone special in your life, her picture will be in your wallet. Damned if I'm not right. She's beautiful, but a bit mature for you, isn't she?

Philip: That's my mom. I'm telling you, I don't have a girlfriend.

Madison: That's your story and you're sticking to it, huh? What's this way in the back here? Oh, my God, it's her -- that girl from "love is blind." I knew it. You really do have a thing for her, don't you?

Shawn-D: Grandma... you told marlena Doug knew who the killer is?

Julie: I had to talk to somebody. I was worried sick. I was worried that he was going to go to the killer himself, and, obviously, I was right to worry. Somehow the killer found out Doug knew. Excuse me.

Shawn-D: All right, all these pieces just keep falling into place.

Belle: Shawn, I know where you're going with this, and please don't -- not again.

Shawn-D: Listen, I'm sorry, okay? I know it's not what you want to hear, but this could be more evidence that your mother, if she knew that Doug was onto her --

Belle: He wasn't onto her because she is not the killer. How many times do I have to tell you, my mom was at home with me during the time of the murder.

Shawn-D: I know. Okay, I know. That's why I didn't say anything to my dad, because the person that I love and trust the most in this world is her alibi. I know that I have to believe your mother is innocent.

Jan: Oh, great, the things I do for you, Shawn. But I have no choice. Now all I have to do is burn this stuff, and I'm so out of here.

[Door opens]

Jan: [Gasps]

Brady: We've searched Granddad's room and his private study. Nothing turned up. So we're going to check out your room.

Nicole: Are you crazy? There's no way Victor would have hidden anything in there.

Brady: But you might have.

Nicole: Me? Wha-- Brady.

Brady: If you somehow got into Granddad's safe.

Nicole: All right, how could I have done that? I mean, how could I have gotten the combination?

Brady: I don't know. But when you want something bad enough, Nicole, you usually find a way to get it. What are you looking at?

Nicole: I'm looking at you. You see, you're right. When I want something, I do find a way to get it, and since you brought me to my bedroom, I think it's pretty clear that you want it, too.

Shawn-D: I'm going to tell you this, but you have to keep it between us, all right?

Tek: Yeah, no problem. What's up?

Shawn-D: I have a theory about the killer, and I know it's going to sound crazy.

Tek: Okay.

Shawn-D: Well, we know that she goes after anyone who is a possible threat to her, right?

Tek: Yeah, that seems to be her M.O., yeah.

Shawn-D: Well, I was just talking to my grandmother Julie. Well, she went and talked to marlena tonight, telling her that Doug had I.D.'d the killer. Now my grandfather's dead.

Tek: Wait, so you're saying you suspect Dr. Evans.

Shawn-D: I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't even be saying any of this, 'cause I know it can't be true. Belle told me that she was with her mom when my grandfather was killed.

Tek: So she has an alibi.

Shawn-D: Yeah, yeah, and marlena was with us when Victor died, too.

Tek: So it appears she's in the clear.

Shawn-D: Yeah, it appears.

Tek: Look, sometimes all the clues lead in one direction, and they turn out to mean nothing. It's just -- it's a false lead.

Shawn-D: Probably right.

Tek: You know, I find it very hard to believe that Dr. Evans did this. I mean, and if Belle says that she was with her tonight, I mean, you think she would lie about that?

Shawn-D: No. No. Never. Belle wouldn't lie. That's something I could stake my life on.

Belle: [Thinking] If Shawn knew I lied to him, he'd never forgive me. But he forced me to do it, and in the end, what does it matter? My mom really is innocent. All I'm doing is getting Shawn to see that. It's not as if the lie is going to hurt anyone.

Marlena: Did you see the killer's face?

John: No. Too far away. All I could see was her silhouette, 'cause it was so dark and foggy out. But there was something familiar about the way she moved. And tonight in that cemetery, the person that was running away from me... God help me, I could swear it was you.

Marlena: My own husband thinks I'm a killer.

John: I'm sorry.

Marlena: I'm sorry. I'm sorry, too, because... obviously, we've stopped trusting each other. Maybe it's a good thing that we're apart.

John: Oh, stop, doc. Stop it.

Marlena: There's something even worse than that, isn't there? You know what it is? It is you have stopped loving me.

John: What?

Marlena: Otherwise, this never could have happened.

John: That's not true. I will love you till the day I die, and nothing will ever change that.

Marlena: But you suspect me. You doubt me. And somewhere in your mind, you always will. How do we come back from that place? Is -- is there any hope for us at all now?

Brady: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What the hell are you doing?

Nicole: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I don't know what came over me.

Brady: Don't give me that. All right, look at me. You and I have to have this out right now.

Nicole: Brady... I told you I was sorry, okay? It's been a tough night, and I -- I just -- I needed to be with someone. I needed to be in your arms. You can't blame a girl for trying.

Brady: Some grieving widow. It's almost like you're happy that Granddad's dead.

Nicole: How could you say that?

Brady: Because I know just as well as you do without the evidence against you and the will, you got it pretty much made.

Nicole: Not without you, Brady. I don't have anything without you.

Madison: So... I guess it's no mystery now why you picked miss unavailable on the show.

Philip: I told you, she's practically engaged. We're old friends, that's all.

Madison: Right. Friends. That's why you keep her picture hidden away in the back of your wallet.

Philip: I forgot it was even in there.

Madison: Please. You're so busted. You're totally in love with this girl, whether you realize it or not.

Shawn-D: Saying a prayer for grandpa tom?

Bo: He may be gone, but his spirit's still here, watching over his family, giving them strength. I just wish he could give us a sign.

Doug: I can give you a sign. The evidence you're looking for is right under your nose. Just open your eyes, Bo, and you'll see it. Lord in heaven, what do I have to do to get noticed around here?

Julie: Oh, my treasure... how can you leave me? After all these years, how can I go on without you? How could I get up tomorrow with you not by my side?

Hope: You're my hero, daddy. You died a hero's death. I love you so much. I just pray to God that you knew how much.

Doug: I knew, sweetheart. I knew.

Jan: [Sighs] Damn, that was close. My heart can't take this anymore. I don't care what Nicole wants. I am getting out of here alive.

Brady: Would you just stop it, Nicole? Stop trying to change the subject.

Nicole: Brady, what will it take to get you to believe in my innocence?

Brady: Nicole, what I believe doesn't matter much right now. All I know is my grandfather was convinced you were guilty of something. And the evidence he left has to be somewhere here in this house.

Nicole: All right. Fine, you can keep searching. You have my permission.

Brady: Your permission?

Nicole: Mm-hmm. My husband died without leaving a will. This is my house now!

Madison: Come on, Phil, admit it. You're in love with little blondie here.

Philip: Please. I am not. I mean, yeah, I had a crush on her, but that was a long time ago, okay?

Madison: Just save it, okay? I could tell from the moment I laid eyes on you you were taken. Or that your heart was, anyway. It's such a shame, 'cause you're just my type. Oh, and a word of advice. If you love this girl, you should go for it. You may end up regretting it the rest of your life.

Shawn-D: I don't ever want to lose you. Promise me that we will always be together, and nothing will ever come between us.

Belle: I promise.

Julie: Goodbye, my darling. We'll meet again.

Hope: We've said goodbye so many times, daddy, but I always knew you'd be back. But this time I know you won't be. Daddy, I'm going to miss you so much.

Doug: And I'll miss you, too, princess. And you, fair lady. The love of my life. But you won't be alone. No, I'm going to be looking after my two girls. Always

John: Don't do this.

Marlena: Don't do what? How do you expect me to react when my husband accuses me of being a murderer?

John: I'm not accusing you of anything! It's just that for a split second, I -- oh, my God. I remembered.

Marlena: Remembered what?

John: Now I know why I thought it was you.

“Next on Days Of Our Lives”

Julie: Hope, I only told two people -- grandma and marlena.

Hope: Marlena?

Sami: The only way to make sure that John doesn't kill you is to kill him yourself. Use this.

Shawn-D: I know your mother's innocent, because I know you would never lie to me.

Brady: How does it feel to get away with murder?
