Sami: [ Sighs ] Hey, there's my sweetheart. Will, what's wrong?
Will: Dad's not home. He promised he'd be there when Josh's Mom dropped me off.
Sami: Oh, well, what are you doing?
Will: Calling 911. No, I'll call Grandpa.
Sami: Hon, put the phone down.
Will: But, Mom!
Sami: No, nothing's wrong. Nothing happened to your Father. I promise. He's okay.
Will: How do you know? What if he's drinking again? What if --
Lucas: Hey, how's breakfast coming?
Will: Dad? What are you doing here?
John: Oh, I'm s-- I'm s-- I'm sorry. Oh, hi, Kate. I'm sorry.
Kate: It's all right. You're probably too busy watching your back to see what's steamrolling towards you.
John: Huh. And I assume you're not referring to yourself, right?
Kate: No. It's your Stepdaughter. It's Sami.
John: Oh, Kate, come on.
Kate: John, listen, you have to take drastic measures. Don't let Sami come between you and your Wife.
Marlena: I thought I'd find you here.
Roman: I, uh...I just thought I'd, uh...clean up the crime scene so St. Luke's could, uh, open up for services again. Ma would want that, right?
Marlena: Yes, she would.
Roman: You know, Doc, I was, uh...thinking. Looking around this place, I was, uh, seeing the hymnals Ma and Pop donated...stain glass windows from the sodality. I don't know. I, uh...I guess maybe that, uh, this was the death that Ma might have hoped for -- in, uh...in this church...kneeling in prayer. Probably asking God forgiveness for the person who was about to murder her. And now I need to ask God to forgive me, because I sure as hell can't.
Marlena: Roman, please don't do this.
Roman: I swore I would protect her, Doc. I'm the police commander, for God's sake. It was my fault. I failed my Mother.
Hope: You didn't sleep at all, did you?
Bo: I should have stayed at the station.
Hope: Well, there's nothing we can do until we get the autopsy report.
Bo: I'm gonna call Tek, find out what he's got on those messages that damn killer sent to my PDA. I mean, we've got seven suspects.
[ Telephone rings ]
Bo: How hard could it be to track the source?
Hope: Bo, Tek said that he'd call if --
Bo: Bo Brady. What the hell do you want? Damn him to hell!
Bo: The killer? No! It was a telemarketer! What -- how many times do we have to put our name on a do-not-call list? I mean...Ma's dead, and this punk is trying to sell me a trip to Bermuda or something.
Hope: Bo --
Bo: I am not going to calm down.
Hope: I wasn't -- I was thinking about your Mom. Caroline Brady was such an amazing woman. Lived such a full and important life. Seems the whole world should be mourning her death today. You know what? You're right. How can the silly business of life go on the same as always?
Bo: Yeah. I'm so thankful I have you. Ma would want me to count my blessings, and I am. But what if this maniac is taking my family from me? What if he has targeted the Bradys? Fancy face, I can't lose you. I can't.
Marlena: Roman, there's only one person to blame for your Mother's death, and that's the killer.
Roman: And now John thinks our Daughter may be the killer.
Marlena: Please, I don't want to hear that.
Roman: I thought that's why you came down here -- to talk about Sami.
Marlena: No, I came to check on you. Have you slept at all?
Roman: Sleep. I can't even imagine sleeping, Doc. I went back to my office last night, and I sat there hour after hour, staring at those suspects' pictures, them staring back at me. Kate...Sami...your Son Rex, who's already in jail for the crime, but who may have recruited his Sister Cassie as an accomplice. And, you know, Doc, last night I said to my Pop right there that we would catch this bastard. But I have already broken the most sacred trust I ever made to my family. My Mother was killed on my watch.
Roman: And where were you?
Roman: But then I guess you never promised us anything, did you?
John: My marriage is really none of your concern, Kate. Besides, Doc and I have weathered a lot worse storms than hurricane Sami.
Kate: Oh, please forgive me. Of course, why would you ever take advice from me? I mean, I've been a lousy Wife, an even worse Mother, and now I'm a serial murderess. So why don't you just go ahead and arrest me? Why don't you just do it? Put everyone out of their misery.
John: My God, Kate. Is it you?
[ Cooing of a baby ]
Kate: What's the matter, John? You didn't think I'd turn out to be a mass-murdering psycho? Well, guess what. I'm not.
John: What are you doing? Why did you tell me to arrest you then?
Kate: I might as well be guilty. I mean, there's seven suspects. We're all being judged, even though six of us are innocent.
John: Well, if you are innocent, why don't you just stop worrying?
Kate: Stop worrying? My whole life has been turned around. I've lost Roman. My Son hates my guts. I mean, I might as well -- I might as well be in prison. I mean, what else is there for me on the outside?
John: And why don't knock off the self-pity, too?
Kate: You know, this is just the way the Salem PD works, isn't it? I mean, they put Rex Dimera behind bars, and still the killings continue, and the accusations against the rest of us continue as well.
John: Things are difficult, Kate. These are very trying times.
Kate: I know that. I know that, and I don't blame you. I'm sorry. It's just people we know and we love -- they're dying.
John: And the only thing we can do is protect our family and ourselves.
Kate: John, in your case, with you and your Sami, the threat is from within your family. It's Sami.
Kate: John, please, sit down.
John: [ Sighs ]
Kate: You are one of the few people I would like to think I could call a friend. And the only reason I'm saying this is because I care. In the interest of stopping these killings, you need to shock Marlena and Roman out of their denial. They need to know that everything Sami does is for the sick purpose of getting them back together, of reuniting her parents.
Sami: His shower's broken. That's why he's here. How about we talk about breakfast? Do you want some eggs? How about pancakes? I could make French toast.
Will: I ate already. Josh's Mother always feeds me, because you never know what's going on in my house, she said.
Sami: That's not very nice of her.
Will: But it's true. And last night I thought maybe there was a good reason I couldn't come home.
Lucas: I'm just going to go get dressed real quick.
Sami: No, you're not.
Lucas: I'll be right back.
Sami: Talk to him.
Lucas: Uh...Will, look, we're sorry. I mean, you have no idea how sorry we are that you had to spend the night at Josh's, but --
Sami: Yeah, we really wanted you to be with us, honey. I guess I was just so upset about losing Grandma Caroline -- I mean, I know you're upset about it, too. I just thought that --
Will: My Grandma Caroline, she never hurt anyone.
Sami: I know that.
Will: Whenever I was feeling bad, because I didn't know when you guys were going to pick me up or whatever...
Lucas: Will --
Will: She always said to me -- she promised...
Sami: What did she promise you, sweetie?
Will: That she would always take care of me.
Sami: And she meant it.
Will: Now I have no one.
Lucas: Oh, come on.
Sami: Honey, that's not true. You have us. We love you so much.
Will: I don't believe you! I don't believe anyone anymore!
Sami: [ Crying ] I should be in there comforting Will instead of crying to you.
Lucas: You know, you may suck as a human being in every possible way, but...you are a good Mother. You are. That kid needs his space right now, and you're giving it to him. You're doing the right thing.
Sami: I just feel like I can help him. I mean, I know what he's going through, thinking that there's no one in the whole world that you can count on.
Lucas: Yeah, but he can.
Sami: Nobody's going to be able to replace my Grandma Caroline. Lucas, she was the kindest, nicest...and I never told her that she was the one person in the whole world that I could count on -- that she loved me. She really loved me no matter what I did, and she never failed me. And now she's gone.
Lucas: Shh. Stop, all right? It's okay. It's going to be okay.
John: You don't actually believe Sami killed her Grandmother.
Kate: What, don't you believe that? I mean, it certainly sounded like it when you interrogated her yesterday.
John: That's called tough love.
Kate: Oh, John, come on. Really, you need to wake up. Sami knows that you love the little girl that she once was, and she plays that so beautifully. I mean, she uses that -- she uses that with you and her Mother and her Father, and she'll continue doing that for the rest of your lives.
John: Mm. Now, may I give you a little unsolicited relationship advice?
John: Once this murder investigation has concluded, if you have any hopes of getting back together with Roman, you ought to try being a bigger person where Sami is concerned.
Kate: It's over between Roman and me, okay? Forever. I lied to him, and...
Kate: And he knows my secret. I told him.
John: All right. Well, whatever this secret is, it's out in the open, right?
Kate: No, because he also knows that I would have killed to protect it.
John: Oh, come on, Kate, he doesn't believe you killed Abe any more than he believes Sami did.
Kate: It doesn't matter what he believes. He's never going to forgive me, ever.
John: Never, ever. It's over. It's forever, right? This is too much, Kate. Come on, nothing's that bad.
Kate: Yes, it is.
Roman: Pop wanted this -- this photo for the obituary, so I thought I'd take this chest home for him.
Marlena: She was so beautiful.
Roman: Inside...and out.
Marlena: Roman? The chalice?
Roman: Yeah, that's, uh...that's from our wedding.
Marlena: What's it doing here?
Roman: Well, Ma brought it over when Sami was going to marry Brandon.
Marlena: Mm. Why is it still here?
Roman: Well, you know Ma. She was always the last one to give up on our Daughter.
Marlena: [ Laughs ] You're right. Caroline always saw the best in people. I mean, she was a realist. Her optimism was...inspiring.
Roman: You know something, Doc? I have always thought of myself as this tough guy, you know, but losing my best friend -- Abe -- oh, my God. My God, that was...that was so hard. But losing my Mother...
Roman: I just feel -- feel lost, Doc. Just...I guess I never realized how much I relied on her, and she just gave me such strength -- you know, just knowing that she was around, that she was there. I...don't know --
Marlena: Roman, you shouldn't have to handle this on your own. You just shouldn't.
Roman: Well, is that why you're here, Doc, so I won't be alone? Because that's the way I've been ever since you left me to marry John.
Bo: Hope, I can't stop worrying about you. Every time I hear you've been called out to a crime scene --
Hope: Hey, hey, I worry about you exactly the same way, but you and I both decided to go back on the force because we don't want to live in fear. We're going to find your Mother's killer, Bo.
[ Telephone rings ]
[ Ring ]
Tek: Hey, Hope, it's Tek.
Hope: Tek, what have you got for us?
Tek: Well, I traced the file that was sent to Bo's PDA yesterday morning.
Hope: So you can tell us who made the threat on Caroline's life? You know who killed her?
Sami: Your towel was, um, slipping.
Lucas: Sorry about that. Um, maybe I should, uh...
Sami: Yeah, maybe you should...
Lucas: I'll change right away.
Lucas: You're better now? You're okay?
Sami: Yeah. Thanks, Lucas.
Lucas: I was just returning the favor.
Sami: Wait. What favor?
Lucas: Yesterday. When I needed a friend, you were there for me.
Sami: Oh. Don't mention it.
Lucas: I just have one question, though.
Sami: What's that?
Lucas: Why didn't you tell me the truth before? I mean, if you knew my Mom was one of Stefano's hookers, you knew I might not be Bill Horton's Son. I mean, if you ever wanted to hurt me -- and when haven't you -- why'd you keep my Mom's secret, huh?
Sami: Maybe 'cause we have Will. I mean, every time I look at him, I see -- um, it just seemed too cruel.
Lucas: That's pretty unbelievable.
Lucas: I can actually trust you more than my own Mother.
Sami: Nobody deserves to find out that everything they believed and trusted about their parents is a lie.
Lucas: Yeah, when I was a kid, I wanted my parents to get back together so bad. I just wanted to be a big happy family forever and ever. I thought I was the only one.
Sami: No, that's everybody. Except for the lucky ones that have it already, like I did. My Mom and Dad loved each other so much. I mean, everything was perfect. And it still could be.
Roman: Oh, Doc, I am so sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I don't know why in the hell I did. I'm just feeling sorry for myself, I guess.
Marlena: You don't have to explain a thing to me. I understand.
Roman: It's just all this grieving. It just -- my God. It's just like your life flashes in front of your eyes, and things that happened years and years ago...it's like time just... compresses. And it seems like it was yesterday.
Marlena: I know. Some memories are remote, and others are so vivid, they seem never to fade.
Roman: It was such an impossible situation for everybody. And believe me, Doc, I do not blame you or John. My God, you didn't lead me on. You were so honest with me. You loved John more than you loved me. Simple as that. And that's the way it was, and that's the way it is. And you know what? I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me. I'm just being a little nostalgic, that's all.
Marlena: Well, there are lots of memories here.
Roman: Oh, yes, there are. This church -- where I grew up...now where my Mother died...where we got married. I am grateful for so much, Doc, and I'm grateful you're here today.
Marlena: I just want to make sure you're taken care of.
Roman: Thank you.
Marlena: I think Doctor's orders would require now that I take you to breakfast, so you name the place no, wait, wait! I think I know what you're going to say.
Roman: You know what? I don't think I've been to Hugo's since, uh, since the time we were coming back from the Hessian Inn. If you remember right, we stayed up all night, and...
Roman: I'm sorry.
Roman: Just everything I say, it seems to come back to our past.
Marlena: We don't have to forget our past, you know.
Marlena: All I want is for you to find happiness. That's all I want. Let's go.
Bo: Tek, what you got?
Tek: Bo, I'm sorry for your loss, man.
Bo: This bastard's mine. I get the collar, you hear me?
Tek: Bo, slow down. We're not there yet.
Bo: What are you talking about? You told Hope you got the killer.
Tek: I told Hope I had a lead. I have info on the threatening messages sent to your PDA, and I think you'll be very interested to see what I got for you.
Lucas: So you really think your Dad is going to wind up with your Mom again?
Sami: Well, we just said that every kid always hopes.
Lucas: Right. Sami, you're not a kid. Oh, my God, Sami
Sami: What? What?
Lucas: What do you mean what? Will.
Sami: What about Will?
Lucas: Will -- did he tell you why he was upset when he came in here?
Sami: Well, I'm assuming it's because his great-grandmother just died and three of his closest relatives are suspects. God...
Sami: Oh, Lucas.
Sami: He wants us together.
Lucas: Yeah, he does, and I just came out of the shower.
Sami: He thought we had had sex.
Lucas: Right, right. And if someone didn't know us, if they didn't know how much we hated each other, they could think we spent the night together. And we didn't think there was anything we could do to make Will feel better. Now I know exactly what has to be done. You and I gotta get together.
Tek: All right, so here's what we know. Bo received several of these PDA messages yesterday while you were at the church.
Hope: Where most of the suspects were in plain view.
Tek: Right, so how'd the killer arrange to send them? Probably used a dummy e-mail. Right? I traced the IP address back to the Salem Library. The messages were composed in advance remotely, to be sent out on a timer.
Bo: Okay, this is all very good, but that's all you got?
Tek: Yeah, obviously, it took a great deal of technological savvy to pull off.
Hope: Yeah, it did. Okay, so we've got Rex, our computer genius.
Bo: Yeah, Victor, Tony, Kate -- they all have entire tech departments at their disposal.
Hope: And by extension, Lucas Roberts and Nicole Kiriakis. Then who does that leave?
Bo: My Niece -- Sami Brady. I'd like to say she doesn't have the means, but considering she hacked into Salem University Hospital Mainframe and altered the records -- what was that -- three different times?
Hope: Yep. She'd be very capable. Tek, isn't there any way you can track back that address a little further? It's a dead lead?
Tek: I'm afraid so. I'll keep plugging away, though. I'll call you when I got something.
Bo: All right, man. Thanks for everything. Damn it. We need more.
Man: Detective Brady? I'm sorry to --
Bo: Hey, it's okay. What do you got?
Man: I thought you'd want to see this right away.
Bo: All right, thanks, man.
Hope: Bo, what is it?
Sami: Lucas, you...want us to get together?
Lucas: No. No, of course not. What do you think I am -- stupid? Everybody knows how much we hate each other.
Sami: Yeah, I mean, only a child could think...
Lucas: Right, and he'll be fine. He'll deal. No problem.
Sami: Yeah, we just don't want to give him any false hope.
Lucas: Exactly. We can all live happily ever after.
Roman: Java cafe.
Marlena: This all right?
Marlena: What is it?
Roman: Nothing, nothing really. I just guess that, uh, every place has memories, doesn't it?
Marlena: You and Kate.
Roman: This is, uh, was our favorite coffee haunt.
Marlena: Roman, could you find it in yourself to forgive Kate?
Roman: Kate had sex for money, Doc. Now, sometimes, I find myself thinking, oh, yeah, I can live with that. But you tell me how in the hell I can live with the fact that the man she worked for was Stefano Dimera. After everything that son of a bitch did to our family -- to you, to me, to the kids -- and, hell, his Son Tony probably killed my Mom.
Roman: It never ends, Doc. It just...never ends. And if it weren't for Stefano, you and I would still be married -- happy with our kids. Everything would be different, wouldn't it?
Marlena: Yes, it would be very different.
John: Don't -- don't worry about Roman and Marlena. It's over. I mean, Sami may want it, but it's never going to happen. Why should it? I mean, hell, Doc and I -- we've got a -- we've got a great marriage that gets stronger every day, in fact, and...you know, the way I see it, from everything Roman has said and the way that he acts when he is around you, he loves you, Kate. Now he just has to see it.
Kate: I'm not so sure you're right. Is that Marlena?
Roman: We lost so much. See, Stefano took so much from us -- so damn much.
Marlena: Oh, Roman.
Hope: Oh, my God, I'm sorry. This is your Mom's autopsy report. You never should've seen this.
Bo: Cause of death...
Bo: Poisoning. Makes sense. She was probably drugged before she even left the house.
Hope: Come here. Come here.
Hope: Oh, my God.
Bo: Something else?
Hope: We might be able to break this case wide open.
Lucas: Hey, Will, come out here for a second.
Sami: Wait a second, Lucas.
Lucas: It's fine. Relax, okay? Come out here, buddy. I want to talk to you.
Lucas: Come here. Your Mom and I want to talk to you about what you saw here this morning.
Lucas: Well, we know what it may have looked like to you, and we also know that maybe you were hoping we'd get together, but I think you should know the truth.
Sami: We're your parents, Will, and we love you very much, but we're not a couple, okay?
Will: So...you're going to live next to each other for the rest of our lives?
Lucas: Well, no --
Will: And I'll have to go back and forth and back and forth?
Lucas: No. No, no, no. Someday we'll get married.
Lucas: You know, to other people we'll get married. Um...
Lucas: Who knows, Will? You never know what's going to happen in life, and that's what makes it so exciting. But the important thing is, is that -- that we love you. Everything's going to be okay, all right?
Will: Yeah. Who knows what will happen? Maybe you'll even marry each other.
Roman: Ah...John's here with Kate. Listen, uh, Doc, I really thank you for this, but, uh, I don't feel real hungry.
Marlena: Are you sure?
Roman: Yeah, it was great to get out, but, uh, I need to get back to the station.
Marlena: All right. If you're sure.
John: Hey, beautiful.
Marlena: Is everything all right?
John: Yeah, I just missed you this morning. Didn't even hear you get up.
Marlena: Oh, I was having a hard time sleeping. I was worried about Roman, wanted to check on him.
Roman: Well, I'm going to get back to work. We'll, uh, we'll catch up later.
John: I'll go with you. As much as I want to catch this killer, I want those six innocents to be exonerated so they move on with their lives. Love you.
John: You know what we talked about before? You were wrong.
Kate: Ah, well, I hope I am, but I don't think so. I hope you find whoever murdered your Mother.
Roman: Oh, we will -- whoever it was.
Kate: Marlena, I'm so sorry about Caroline.
Marlena: It's awful. It's unspeakable, Kate.
Kate: You don't think that I had --
Marlena: No, no, I don't. No, of course not.
Kate: I just wish there was something that I could do for Roman. He -- he seems so alone.
Marlena: No, he's not alone. He's got me.
Kate: John is a really, really wonderful man. I...don't do anything that you'll live to regret.
Marlena: Kate, I love my Husband. I don't care for what you're implying. I'm reaching out to Roman because he -- he has no one.
Kate: He could have me.
Marlena: Oh, it wouldn't be appropriate for you to comfort Roman. I mean, he does know now about your past with Stefano. That wound is pretty fresh.
Kate: Stefano's dead. But is he ever going to stop reaching out and causing misery for all of us?
Marlena: I don't know if that's ever going to happen.
Hope: The autopsy report says your Mom died of an overdose of Diazepam.
Bo: What's the time frame on that -- onset of symptoms within about an hour or two of ingestion?
Hope: It was a painless death, Bo.
Bo: Yeah. Okay, we got a prescription drug. Local pharmacies -- they're should be a paper trail.
Hope: It's worth a try. It's a pretty common prescription, though. Even Maggie was taking it when she was being stalked. Oh, my God.
Hope: I should call Uncle Mickey. Uncle Mickey, hi, it's me. Um, listen, I need to ask you something. Marlena prescribed something for Maggie, right, to help her relax? Do you have any idea where those pills were kept? The kitchen? You're sure they're gone? Well, we think there's a possibility that the killer took them the night they broke in. Do you have any idea how many pills were left? Uncle Mickey, thank you. I'm sorry to bother you.
Bo: What'd he say?
Hope: She had stopped taking them. She was a recovering alcoholic and didn't want to risk dependency.
Bo: So you're saying...
Hope: The killer stole the bottle the night she was murdered, Bo.
Bo: That means the plan was already set in motion.
Hope: And, apparently, there were plenty of pills left in case the sicko wanted to try again.
[ Beeping ]
Hope: What's that?
Bo: My PDA.
Hope: Bo, no one ever messages you...
Bo: Except that bastard.
Hope: Is he sending you another message? What does it say?
Bo: It's still coming in. Oh, my God. No.
"On the next Days of Our Lives…"
Shawn-d: Belle and I are going to get married someday. Nothing can keep that from happening.
Bonnie: You don't want to be seeing Mrs. Horton's stuff.
Mickey: Just get out. Out!
Nicole: You can't stop me from making Brady fall in love with me.
Victor: That's where you're wrong, my dear. You see, I have Chloe Lane.
Bo: Hope, the killer was just a few feet away from me. I could've saved my mom!
