Days of Our Lives Transcript Friday 1/24/03--Canada; 1/27/03--USA
Belle: This is so stupid. I feel like I'm running around in circles. Okay, I know cassie is your sister, and she is my friend. I shouldn't be thinking this, but --
Rex: She's not with shawn. Okay? Something happened tonight, something that upset cassie a lot. We went to see your mom.
Belle: My mom's out of town.
Rex: She said her conference ended early.
Belle: So you talked to my mother.
Rex: Well, we saw her. Marlena called and asked if we'd come over and meet with her.
Rex: So she could tell us that she couldn't be a mother to us. This is strange. You're probably thinking, "look, she's my mother. How could she be yours?" And I know it's not rational, but the connection we had with marlena right from the start -- I mean, it felt to us like everything we imagined having a mother would feel like. To come live in the penthouse, remember? Before your father talked her out of it.
Belle: To be honest with you, I'm not sure how I feel about all of this. I guess I kind of think that it's not really up to me. I mean, most kids would wish that their parents would never have any more children. You kind of would like to think of your parents as only belonging to you and nobody else.
Rex: I wouldn't know. But, you know, marlena tried to be really nice about it, and then cassie freaked out. She just -- she felt very rejected. And I'm worried about her. It's like she's building up this need inside, and someone has to fill it, you know?
Belle: Like maybe shawn?
Rex: No, I really don't think so.
Belle: What about you? What do you need?
Rex: I'm really okay the way I am.
Belle: Oh, this is getting silly!
Rex: Look, he'll show up, okay? And when he does, he won't like it if I'm here, so...
Belle: Look, after making me wait for so long, it's really not up to shawn who I hang out with.
Rex: Hey, wait. Don't be mad at him. I mean, it would be awful to walk in wanting to see your smile so much, and have you be mad instead.
Belle: That was really sweet. Thank you. And thanks for keeping me company.
Belle: Rex... I know you said that you were all right, but everyone needs someone, and I'm sure you'll find her, whoever she is.
Cassie: Shawn, you're not -- you're nothehe kind of person that takes a life. You preserve it. Look, the night that you found me and rex, you were scared, and you could have hurt us, but instead, you gave us our lives.
Shawn-d: I didn't have gun on the fourth of july. I had a gun onhehe terrace, and look what happened.
Cassie: You were defending your family. Shawn, it's not like you just found a gun and, bam, you shot him. You were arguing, right?
Shawn-d: Oh, my god. You -- you saw the whole thing.
Cassie: I was hiding on the terrace.
Colinmomommy and daddy wouldn't approve. They taught you that it's wrong to kill in cold blood. Besides, you don't have the guts. Hand it over.
[ Tree branch snaps ]
[ Gunshot ]
Cassie: I was so afraid that somebody would say something, or that you would turn yourself in. Shawn, I hope you know that I will never say anything.
Shawn-d: I almost confessed that night.
Cassie: No, you can'T.
Shawn-d: I did it, cassie! I shot colin! I can't just forget that!
Cassie: What stopped you from telling people?
Shawn-d: I wasn't thinking. At first -- I mean... I was freaked. I couldn't believe I had just -- I'm not a killer. I was in shock, and -- my dad called me and said that he had gone home looking for my mom, and she was there. He said that she needed me, and I was going to tell him right there. God, I needed to tell him, but he said that she was stressed and she couldn't -- she couldn't handle dealing with the shooting. And I wanted to scream out that I couldn't handle it, 'cause I was losing it inside, cassie. I -- I don't know how my dad -- he must have been so focused on my mom that he couldn't see how on edge I was. So, I said that I'd just wait to tell my mom until I knew that she could deal, and I would tell belle the next day. Well, I don't know who said it first, belle or me, but... we were saying how my family couldn't handle one more bad thing happening. This is before my grandfather had his heart attack. The whole day is like a blur. It was the day when everyone got mad at tony dimera, and my grandfather... so -- so we're at the hospital, and -- and the doctors are saying how my grandfather's heart can't handlenyny more stress, and here I am with this secret inside, and it's just killing me. And I have to go to the police, cassie. I have to get it out. I have to confess!
Cassie: No, shawn, no. No, you can'T.
Hope: Don't you think I want to believe that I'm innocent? God! Look, what's obvious to me and what you won't accept is that I've blocked it from my mind. You know, it happens to people all the time when they're under tremendous stress. But it's gonna help me when my case goes to trial.
Bo: This is not gogoing to trial. Hope, there is no proof whatsoever that you were involved in colin's murder, so get that out of your mind.
Belle: [ Sighs ] I have a bad feeling you're going to break that promise, shawn.
Shawn-d: Look, in spite of the way I've handled everything so far, I am not a criminal. I have a real problem with lying, which is why I cannot keep this a secret forever, which is why I have to tell the police.
Cassie: Shawn, why? There's no evidence against you, so why don't you just not say anything?
Shawn-d: I wish I knew what happened to the gun, 'cause the cops should have found it. I dropped it right there on the terrace. It's got my fingerprints all over it, so when the cops do find it --
Cassie: Well, what if they don't find it?
Shawn-d: Cassie, I have to turn myself in.
Cassie: Shawn, are you sure? Have you thought what this is going to do to your family?
Shawn-d: Yes, okay? Last time I kept a secret, I lost my parents' trust. I almost lost my girlfriend for good.
Cassie: You're not thinking of telling belle the truth, are you?
Shawn-d: Yes! She means everything in the world to me besides my family.
Cassie: Is that fair to do that to her?
Shawn-d: Nothing feels right unless I am completely ope with belle.
Cassie: Shawn, if you tell her the truth, you're putting -- you're putting her in a position of obstructing justice or going to turn you in. Why risk her future by getting her involved if she doesn't have to be?
Shawn-d: Belle and i used to tell each other everything. It was the best thing in my life.
Cassie: You could talk to me now... whenever you want.
Shawn-d: So I really shouldn't tell her?
Cassie: Not unless you want to risk her going to jail.
Hope: I'm so mixed up.
Hope: I want to do the right thing. But I also want to protect our children. But if I did kill colin...
Bo: Hey --
Hope: Brady, I have to then wonder what else I might do. I'm scared.
Bo: Yeah, I know. I know.
[ Knock on door ]
Hope: Who could that be? It's late.
Bo: It's abe.
Hope: What? Oh, my god.
Bo: Don't mention colin. Not a word. Let me do the talking. Hey, abe.
Bo: You just caught us. We were on our way to bed.
Abe: Look, I'm sorry to stop by so late, but I saw your lights were on, and I need to talk to you about the murder investigation.
John: So, how is he?
Craig: Well, considering everything, he's doing okay. He's regained consciousness.
Chloe: Oh, craig...
Craig: It's okay, sweetie. He's going to be okay. X-rays indicate nothing but a simple little concussion. No serious injury. He's going to be okay, john.
John: That's good news. Thank you.
Chloe: Can I see him?
Craig: Absolutely. You can both see him. Come on. I'll be back, okay?
Chloe: [ Sobbing ]
John: I think he needs you.
Chloe: Brady. Brady, hey. Hey. Hi.
Brady: Hey, beautiful.
Chloe: [ Chuckles ] Your father is here, too.
Brady: Oh, yeah?
John: Hey, kid.
Brady: Where thhehell am I?
Chloe: You're in the hospital. You went to meet tony dimera, remember? You got hit by a car.
Brady: That's right. Chloe, am I --
Chloe: You're fine. Or you're going to be fine. Craig just told us. Ah, brady, I saw it happen. I thought -- I don't want to tell you what I thought.
Brady: Have you gotten it yet? I'm not going anywhere.
Chloe: I guess I just forgot for a moment.
Brady: Just don't let it happen again.
Craig: Thank you.
Tony: Excuse me, could I be included in your conference, being that it's my body we're discussing?
Man: We've been going over your test results, mr. Dimera, interpreting your x-rays.
Tony: And what conclusions have you come to in your great wisdom?
Craig: Only that you can't move your legs, but you already knew that.
Ton y yes. It's a damn nuisance. So, how long do I have to put up with this?
Man: You've sustained a spinal cord injury. It's an unstable fracture.
Tony: What are you saying?
Craig: You're going to need surgery, tony.
Tony: Ah, bloody hell with an interminable recuperating period, no doubt. So, um, when do we get on with this?
Craig: Well, there's a lot to take into consideration.
Tony: The sooner I get under the knife, the sooner I'll be walking. What's there to consider first?
Craig: Well, with this particular type of injury, tony, we won't know anything till we go in there and actually do the work. Then we have to see how the repaired fracture is healing. Then we'll know.
Tony: Well, what -- know what? What is there to know?
Craig: If the surgery is a success. I-I wish I could give you a guarantee.
Tony: So what are you saying, that I could go through one hell of an operation, with weeks of therapy, and then find that this procedure doesn't work?!
Craig: Yeah. That's -- that's about it.
Tony: But you're not saying if I can use my legs again. Are you saying -- I'm not going to be paralyzed, am I?
Craig: You... could remain paralyzed from the waist down.
Bo: Come on in, abe.
Abe: All right. Hey, hope, how you doing?
Hope: Abe. Hi.
Bo: Hey, you want to go check on zack, hope? He's a little under the weather, so he keeps waking up every now and then.
Hope: Uh, excuse me, abe.
Bo: She's the only one with any luck getting him back to sleep.
Abe: How's she doing, huh?
Bo: Fine. Good. Hey, you want a beer?
Abe: No, no. Listen, bo, I just got out of a meeting with the D.A. And you know carson. He's giving me major grief about not nailing colin's killer.
Bo: Yeah, well, it's a tou c case.
Abe: Carson's on this kick about having you and roman thrown off the case, and we know why. It's that letter that colin left behind pointing a finger at the bradys. You know, that letter is probably bogus, but it still has an impact. So carson's stuck on this idea that one or more of the bradys is protecting one of their own.
[ Glass shatters ]
Cassie: Belle is a very loyal person, shawn. If you tell her the truth, you're putting her in a position of wanting to protect you and -- and needing to be honest. Do you really want to do that to her?
[ Door opens ]
Cassie: What are you doing here?
Rex: I was looking for shawn. I, uh, I didn't think I'd find him with you.
Cassie: What does that mean?
Rex: What's going on, shawn? Look, the reason I came looking for you -- wait, do you know belle's waiting for you at the dorm? Okay, well, I don't get it. What are you doing here? Look, belle's been waiting for hours.
Shawn-d: I'm going.
Rex: What the hell are you doing?
Cassie: I can't talk to you about this, and right now I just don't even want to talk to you at all. Just leave me alone.
Rex: Stop trying to take shawn away from belle, all right? He belongs with he
Cassie: Not anymore, he doesn'T.
Rex: Wait a minute. What have you done to shawn?
Cassie: What have I done to him? Rex, I'm helping him. I'm taking a risk because it's worth it -- because he's worth it. You don't know what's going on, but if you did, you'd understand.
Rex: Shawn needs belle.
Cassie: You're wrong. He needs me. He would be totally lost without me. That's just the way things are now.
Rex: What is the big secret? Huh? Why can't you tell me?
Cassie: I can't tell anyone.
Rex: I'm worried about you.
Cassie: Really? Even though my name's not belle?
Rex: Look, I love you, and I hate to see you clinging to people who can't give you what you need, like marlena and shawn.
Cassie: That's not the way that it is!
Rex: I'm your brother. Let me help you. I mean, talk to me. Tell me what's going on between you and shawn.
Belle: I was waiting for you. It kept getting later and later, and I didn't know where you were. I called your cell phone, but you had it turned off. I was going to go look for you. I don't know where I was going to go look for you, but I had to get out of here.
Belle: Hey, what's wrong? Is it your grandfather? Did he... is something wrong with your mom?
Shawn-d: It's me. I'm what's wrong.
Bo: Hey, careful. Don't cut yourself.
Hope: I'm just going to clean this up.
Bo: No, no. We'll clean it up later. Did you hear what abe said about the D.A.'S suspicions?
Hope: Uh, yeah.
Bo: Yeah, well, carson's way off base. No one in this family murdered colin, and I will prove that. Last thing we need is something else to worry about. How's zack? Um, I don't hear him.
Hope: He's sleeping.
Bo: Oh. Good.
[ Cellular phone rings ]
Abe: Oh. Excuse me, guys. Yeah, carver here. No, no. Um...I'll go myself. Guess I'm not going home after all. See ya, hope.
Hope: Bye, abe. Always good to see you.
Bo: Do you need me to come in?
Abe: No. Hope needs you here. Have a peaceful night now, what's left of it, huh?
Bo: Yeah, thanks.
Abe: Take care.
Hope: You heard abe. The D.A. Is not giving in.
Bo: The hell with the D.A.
Hope: He's going to keep questioning and questioning and digging until he finds the evidence to prove that one of the bradys did it. It's only a matter of time that his search leads to me. Don't you understand?
Brady: Okay. You're telling me that -- that tony is in serious condition because he tried to save my life?
John: Hard as it is to believe, yep. Looks that way. Now, what in the hell were you doing going to meet tony?
Brady: I went against your wishes, dad. I downloaded a file from his server... and I think he was pretty upset about it. So why the hell did he try to save my life, anyway?
John: I've been running that over in my mind all night long... and I just don't know.
Abe: John, I just got a call from the station. How's brady doing?
John: He's going to be all right, abraham. He's got a concussion. So, did you get the driver?
Abe: No. No, not yet. I heard that tony got hit, too.
John: Yeah, and his injuries are going to be pretty serious.
Abe: So, what do you think about all that?
John: Well, I am conditioned to be suspicious of anything a dimera does, but I was right there. I was behind the hit-and-run. I saw the whole thing happen. I saw tony push brady out of the way and take the car himself. Now, why would he sacrifice himself like that? What would he have to gain? Doesn't make any sense, does it?
Bart: Hey, boss, how you feeling? Listen, I was standing on popham road, right on the corner, all set to watch you rescue brady black, and then... boss, I don't know what the hell went wrong. I mean, I don't know what the hell happened. I mean...
Tony: Why don't you come a little closer now? I'll tell you what I have to say.
Tony: No one was supposed to get hurt. The car was supposed to come for brady, I was supposed to push him to safety, and then I was supposed to get up, dust myself off, and bask in the glory of john black's reluctant gratitude. Then he and his nosy son were supposed to back off from me, and then I would be free to go after marlena.
Bart: It was a great plan, boss. It just went kalamazoo.
Tony: What are you talking about? I may be paralyzed for life.
Bart: Boss, I can't tell you how sorry I am.
>>Ony: Oh, shut your face. Just shut up. If my condition becomes permanent, I promise you, you are going to suffer as well, alonwiwith that inept driver that you hired. And john black and his son -- they'll pay double. They'll pay the highest price of all.
Belle: What do you mean, you're what's wrong?
Shawn-d: You know, it's so late. I should probably go.
Belle: No, no. I practically waited for you all night. Come here. What's up with this stuff that you're saying?
Shawn-d: I love you more than you know, and that's why I can't tell you and I can't involve you.
Belle: Involve me in what? Shawn, you do not have to be like your father and be strong all the time. We can be partners, and whatever this problem is, we can work through it together.
Shawn-d: Okay, please, belle, just trust me, okay?
Belle: Trust you?! You can't talk to me about trust when you're not willing to trust me. You can't come in here obviously upset about something and then put up this wall.
Shawn-d: What if there is no other way?
Belle: I don't believe that! Shawn, I know when this started. The night victor's wedding, the night colin murphy was shot. That's what this is about, isn't it? Colin's murder.
Craig: Okay, young lady. Say your goodbye. You can talk to him tomorrow. You're doing pretty good, brady. I'm going to be discharging you in a few hours.
Chloe: Call me as soon as you get home, okay?
Brady: I will. I love you.
Chloe: I love you, too.
Craig: I'll see you later.
Brady: Dr. Wesley...
Brady: What's tony dimera's prognosis?
Craig: Well, um, as soon as he signs his consent form, we'll operate, but there's no guarantee that he won't be paralyzed.
Tony: [ Sighs ] Bring the form, will you? I'll sign it. I want to get this operation over and done with.
Man: Do you understand that --
Tony: Yes, there are no guarantees. Listen, I wouldn't want it any other way.
John: You know, if I didn't see it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. You risked your life to save my son, so I got to ask you -- why'd you do that?
Tony: Why? Because you're my brother, john, and brady's my nephew. What more reason does a man need? I'm as protective of my family as you are, john.
Cassie: What shawn and I have is more than love. It's my destiny to be with him, and I've known that since the moment he kissed me on that hill near lookout point.
Rex: He was trying to revive you. That wasn't romantic.
Cassie: Rex, he breathed life into me. Even then, he didn't know how important I was going to become to him.
Rex: Important? What are you --
Cassie: He needs me more than he could ever need belle, and I'm sorry if you don't understand that, but that's just the way that it is. I'm not going to abandon him, and he's not abandoning me.
Shawn-d: Colin's murder has just added to my family's stress... and we're having a really hard time dealing with everything.
Shawn-d: I don't want to have to dump all this on you. I am just in a really, really bad place right now, and I don't want to bring you down with me.
Belle: You won'T.
Shawn-d: I don't want to hurt you.
Belle: You won'T.
Shawn-d: I won'T. I'm letting you go. I need to give you some space while I figure out what's going on.
Belle: You're giving me space?
Shawn-d: God, I hate this. I hate this. I'm sorry, I -- I'm doing this f you.
Belle: You're breaking up with me.
Hope: The D.A.'S going to come after me, and then he's going to come after you, and we'll both go to prison, and then what? What happens to our children?
Bo: You're not taking the fall for a murder you didn't commit. I'm going to prove you didn't do it.
Bo: By finding the bastard who did.
Bo: I'm going to find murphy's killer, and I'm going to put him away for life.
Belle: You want to break up with me? Why?
Marlena: Where's tony? Has he gone home?
John: No. He got injured in the accident. Craig thinks he may be paralyzed.
Tony: It's not going to help. I'm paralyzed.
