Roman: You know, that is a pretty outfit. What color did you say that was?
Roman: Well, it looks good on you. Kind of brings your eyes out.
Roman: Are you absolutely sure I can't buy you a drink?
Kate: I don't want anything to drink. I don't even want to talk to you.
Kate: Certainly not until you stop holding me prisoner.
Roman: Well, I'll tell you what, kate. I would be glad to uncuff you just as soon as you admit that we got a good thing going, and that it just might be time to get serious.
Jack: Here goes.
Jennifer: Oh, great.
Jack: All right.
Abby: Grandma and grandpa will be here any minute.
J jack: Um, yeah --
Jennifer: Sweetie, are you sure that you want to have another sleepover so soon?
Abby: I like staying at their house.
Jack: Don't you like to sleep in your own bed at night?
Abby: No. I want you two to have some quality time alone.
Jack: Quality --
Jennifer: Well, where did you learn about quality time?
Abby: From you and daddy.
[ Horn honks ]
Abby: That's them.
Jack: Yeah. But you --
Abby: See you tomorrow.
Jennifer: Ooh, wait, sweetie. Wait, we want to walk you to the car.
Abby: I'm not a baby. Besides, I want your quality time to start right now.
Jack: Well...ghght. Yeah, yeah --
Jennifer: Hold on. Wait. Okay, sweetie, have -- well, have a good time.
Jack: Yeah, about the --
Jack: Yeah, r-- well --- see you. Uh...
[ Car pulls away ]
Jack: Right, okay. See you, vern. Drive careful. Right. Well... a little matchmaker she's turned out to be.
Jennifer: Yeah. I inink she's just so thrilled that we're getting closer.
Jack: [ Clears throat ] Me too.
Jennifer: Me too.
Jack: Well, me three.
Jennifer: Me four.
Jennifer: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I can'T. I can'T.
[ Doorbell rings ]
Marlena: Where is he?
Eliana: I'll see if count dimera is in.
Tony: It's all right, eliana.
Marlena: How dare you do that to me?
Tony: Well, I was just going out for dinner at tuscany. Why don't you join me? We can talk about whatever it is you want to talk about over a lovely dinner and a beautiful bottle of wine.
Marlena: You can save your charm -- and your dinner invitation. I told you that I could not act as a surrogate mother to those twins. You went behinm my back and encouraged them to think of me as their mother.
Tony: Well, I wanted what's best for my wards.
Marlena: I want you to stop separating me from my family, and I want that now.
[ Gasps ]
Bo: Hey, hey, hey. It's okay. It's okay. It's me. You were sleeping.
Hope: I was?
Bo: Yeah. Yh.H. Kind of restless. Just before you woke up, you... you said "colin." Was he in your dreams? Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.
Tony: Well, why don't you co in? I had no idea you'd be this upset.
Marlena: Tony, I have my own family, my own children. I am committed to being their mother and to being john's wife.
Tony: As well you should be. I was just hoping the next time you're with the twins, you'll extend yourself a little further.
Marlena: I can't fill the void their mother left -- if, in fact, they had a mother.
Tony: Of course they had a mother. Everybody has a mother. Perhaps she died. Perhaps she abandoned them.
Marlena: Perhaps she sold them to stefano before they were born, or even after they were born.
Tony: Well, anything's possible.
Marlena: Knowing stefano, that's true. I wonder how big a check he would have to write to get two specimens like that -- perfect infants to be used for experiments, programming. To be used as lab rats.
Tony: I can only guess.
Marlena: So, if that's all true, what about the mother? A woman who casts off her children like so many unwanted christmas presents. Or maybe sold them to the highest bidder on the internet system. I don't know, what do you think? What should happen to her? Should she be accused, punished somehow? And if not in this life, then certainly in the --
Tony: You know, marlena, I was wrong. I only care about cassie and rex. Whether they're dimera or not, you love them.
Jennifer: I am so sorry.
Jack: No, no, no. There's nothing to be sorry about.
Jennifer: Yes, there is. I-I love you. I love you so much. And I want to be able to show you that, jack, but when we kissed -- I just -- I wish I could get on a time machine back to africa, back to the moment when I first met him, when colin murphy first spoke to me and made me think that he cared and made me think that he was somebody I could trust.
Jack: What difference does that make now?
Jennifer: It makes all the difference in the world. I want to be able to have been the one to walk away from it. I want it to be so that none of this ever happened.
Jack: Jennifer, do you remember when abigail received her bone marrow transplant and the doct said that she was cured, she'd never be sick again, and there was no reason to worry anymore? Well, I knew that you were still going to keep on worrying, and you wouldn't be able to imagine a day when you'd ever stop worrying. But that day came, didn't it? It happened, didn't it? You're going to put all of these horrible things that have happened behind you. Know you will. And -- and I-I will, too. It's just gonna take time. Then it'll be okay. And we'll just... spend quality time together -- like getting to know each other again.
Jennifer: Thank you. Thank you for being so understanding, jack.
Jack: It'll be like a first date. So, what do we do on our first date? We'll go, uh... well, it's too late and it's too cold for miniature golf.
Jennifer: Ha ha.
Jack: And, uh, bowling is out, obviously.
Jennifer: Ha ha ha ha ha.
Jack: So how about, uh, the good old movie and a dinner?
Jennifer: Oh, I can'T.
Jack: You can't?
Jennifer: No, not tonight, because I promised hope that I would stop by. We're decorating for gram's birthday party, so we need to get all that stuff ready, you know.
Jack: Ahh. Ha ha. Well, I'll just come with you and help then.
Jennifer: Oh, some date, yeah.
Jack: Well, you know, I mean, you know, in my, you know, eighth grade health class, they said the best first dates were big group activities -- big fun group activities. And the fact is, I'm one of the foremost confetti-ripping, balloon-blowing, crepe paper-twisting... guys in all eight counties. I really am.
Jennifer: You're completely nuts. And I am so... I am so crazy about you.
Jack: I am so crazy about you. And I always will be. I'm gonna go get the coats. That's what I'm going to do.
Jennifer: Okay, colin murphy never existed. He never existed. Never, never.
Bo: Were you dreaming about colin?
Hope: I don't know. I don't remember. I don't remember fainting at the pub, either, or leaving victor's wedding. Brady, I'm scared. I'm losing time now. I'm blacking out.
Bo: It's going to be okay. Now that you're talking about it, it will lose its hold on you, because you're letting it out -- all that pain and fear. You're gonna make through this. We're gonna get rid of that ghost together. Larry welch will be exorcised from your life for good.
Larry: So... you've been seeing my ghost, huh?
[ Chuckles ] Well, I can't think of a better revenge than watching you slowly go crazy trying to shake me. But, you know, your imaginary specter may need a little help. So, I'm gonna see just how close to the edge I can push you. Boo! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Bo: Hi, you guys. Sorry. Come on in.
Jennifer: [ Shivers ] Hi.
Hope: Hey, is something wrong?
Jennifer: Huh? No.
Jack: Why? Why do you ask?
Hope: Because, I mean, usually you call before stopping by. Is e erything all right?
Jennifer: Well, we had a plan, remember? The decorations for gram's birthday. We were gonna get them all together and ready and --
Hope: I completely forgot. Well, I'm getting used to that.
Jennifer: You know what? If it's a bad time, we could do it in the morning.
Hope: No, absolutely not. No, no, no, no. I feel like I have been spending my whole life putting things on hold, but I'm not doing it anymore.
Hope: Everything arrived. All we have to do is just bring it up from the basement.
Bo: Sounds like a guy job.
Jennifer: [ Chuckles ]
Jack: Maybe a 2-guy job.
Hope: Thank god all the charges were dropped against jack. I am so happy.
Jennifer: I know. I mean, hope, when he made that confession, he was ready to go to prison because he thought he was protecting me.
Hope: Sounds like love to me. Is that why he'sllll of a sudden part of the decorating committee for gran's party?
Jennifer: Well, you know, we are -- we're working our way back together.
Hope: Jen, that's great. Oh, jen, I am -- I'm so happy for you. So, is he moving back in? Is there talk of marria-- I want to hear everything, every detail.
Kate: We have a good thing going. Now take this damn handcuff off!
Roman: We didn't say that second thing -- you know, the thing about, you know, it might just be time to get serious.
Kate: What are you gonna do when the handcuffs don't work, huh? You gonna break out the rubber hoses, the stun gun? You can't base a relationship on brute force, roman.
Roman: I prefer to call it tough love.
Kate: Love? That's not what this is all about, not as far as I'm concerned, believe me.
Roman: Is that a fact?
Kate: I do care about you, and we do have fun together.
Roman: We have a whole lot more than fun.
Kate: I don't want to go to the heart-and-flowers place, okay?
Roman: Why not?
Kate: Because you're -- you're not my type, okay? To be blunt, you're not my type.
Roman: Could have fooled me.
Kate: You're a cop. You make a cop's salary. I don't do blue collar, I don't do crass. My ideal man is rich and he's sophisticated and he's cultured and he's someone who's very ambitious, and he's just as unpredictable and hungry as I am. And you -- well...
Roman: I'm just fun for a roll in the hay?
Kate: You're settled, okay? You're just a few years away from being a nice, conventional, middle-class, middle-aged bore. Sorry, but you asked for that.
Marlena: Don't analyze how I feel about rex and cassie.
Tony: Well, love is a totally appropriate emotion. As a psychiatrist, you should know that.
Marlena: I don't love them.
Tony: Why are you being so defensive?
Marlena: I'm not defensive.
Tony: Well, what is your diagnosis then?
Marlena: I'm just trying --
Tony: What? Tell me. Perhaps I can help you.
Marlena: No, you can't help me. You are the problem! Oh! I can't have this conversation with you.
Tony: Wait here. Wait, one moment, please. Marlena, the twins gave me this photo for christmas, so I made a copy. I thought you might like it. Please take it. Don't do to them what their mother did. Don't abandon them. They deserve much better than that. They don't need to be abandoned a second time.
Tony's voice: Don't abandon them a second time. Don't do to them what their mother did. Their mother...mother... mother...mother...
Tony: You won't abandon them, marlena. You won't abandon me, either.
Roman: All right, let me see here, kate. We got conventional, we got middle class, we got boring. There was a "nice" thrown in there, though. I mean, that does count for something.
Kate: Is that all you're going to say?
Roman: Well, you know, I could call you a cold, judgmental, resentful, bitter poseur who acts like she's better than everybody else to cover a very serious case of self-loathing. But I won'T.
Kate: Ha ha ha. Oh, thank you so much for small favors.
Roman: You know what? You're scared of me, kate. You're scared of us. You see, I get that. But I am real tired of the dance. And I'm hungry. So, me and my handcuffs, we're gonna go right over to that table to have some dinner. We're gonna take my crass table manners along with me and be alone, unless, of course, you would decide to come join me.
Kate: Thank you.
Man: The rest of the bottle is on ice.
Kate: I didn't order that.
Man: It's on the gentlemen.
Kate: Oh, really? The gentleman who just went into the dining room?
Man: The gentleman at the end of the bar.
Tony: Handcuffs are one thing in the bedroom, but in public? Did captain brady have you arrested?
Kate: That's really none of your business.
Tony: Oh, kate, where are your manners? I just bought you one of the most expensive bottles of champagne in tuscany.
Kate: Well, I don't want to drink your champagne, and I don't want to talk to you.
Tony: I'm sorry, was it the handcuff joke? It was in bad taste. I apologize.
Kate: I know what you want from me, tony.
Tony: The same thing captain brady wants.
Bo: Hey, think quick. So, are you and jen getting back together?
Jack: Yeah, it looks that way.
Bo: Congratulations. Abby must be stoked.
Jack: Yeah, she's thrilled.
Bo: And you're not?
Jack: No, of course I am. I am. It's just that jennifer is -- it's jennifer. You know, she's having a real difficult time, what with murphy... what he did. And she's feeling guilty, and she's ashamed, and I'm just -- ah, damn it! Damn it! Damn it! I just -- I couldn't stop it. I couldn't stop that bastard. I couldn't protect her. I didn't protect her, and I'm never going to forgive myself for tt.T.
Hope: Jen, what is it? Don't you want to get back with jack?
Jennifer: Yeah. I mean, of course I do. That's not the problem. It just -- it just can't be.
Hope: But why? Because of what happened with colin?
Jennifer: Because of what I let happen with colin.
[ Knock on door ]
Hope: I'm sorry.
Jennifer: It's okay.
Hope: I'll t t rid of whoever it is. I'll be right back. Hey. Marlena, hi.
Marlena: Hi there. I was in the neighborhood, and I thought I'd stop and see how you're doing. How are you?
Hope: Oh, I'm okay at the moment. But there's someone inside who isn'T.
Marlena: Oh. If you're having a private conversation, I'll come back some other time. Sorry to bother you.
Jennifer: No, no, no. It's okay, really. Please stay.
Hope: Please, come in.
Marlena: All righty. Thank you.
Marlena: Jennifer... what's wrong?
Jennifer: Marlena, I am just -- I'm just having a hard time, really. I should be able to get past it. You know, I don't like feeling sorry for myself, and I have so much to be thankful for. I look around, and I'm so lucky, and here I am --
Marlena: Jennifer, jennifer, stop right there. I don't know what's going on, but you clearly are in a lot of pain. I'd like you to stop trying to decide whether or not you should be feeling the pain and just let it happen. That's the only way to get through it.
Jennifer: The thing that I'm upset about is colin murphy because of something that happened with him. Something that happened with him and me before he was killed.
Bo: Jack, look, it doesn't do any good to blame yourself.
Jack: I should have protected her.
Bo: Well, sometimes you can't protect the people you love. I'm a cop. I help strangers every day of my life, and I wasn't able to keep my son and my wife from being kidnapped and going through hell. And hope -- she's still suffering the consequences. But I can be there for her right now to help her through this, just like you can be there for jennifer right now and help her through this.
Jennifer: Marlena, you don't understand. Colin was so jealous. And he swore that he was going to kill jack, and he meant it. I know he did. So it wasn't about the investigation anymore. It wasn't about colin. It was about saving jack's life at this point.
Hope: Would you just excuse me for a moment? I'll be right back.
Marlena: You did what you had to do.
Jennifer: Right, but that's what's most difficult to me, because I think -- I know that I made the choice. He didn't force me.
Marlena: It sounded like he coerced you.
Jennifer: Yeah, but I still made the decision. And I didn't have time to think whether it was the right one, and --
Marlena: Yeah, you know what? Yes, you made a decision. Yes, you made a choice. No, it's not your fault. Do you understand? You were trying to save someone's life. It was jack. It was someone that you love.
Marlena: I want to hear you say it.
Jennifer: What? Say what?
Marlena: Say that it was not your fault, not what you wanted.
Jennifer: Um... it, uh, it wasn't my fault. I -- thank you, marlena. I -- thank you.
Marlena: Yeah. If you want to talk about this again, just call my office.
Jennifer: I will, because I think that it will help. I think.
Marlena: Okay. Hope?
Hope: Yeah. Oh, the tea will be ready in just a minute, okay?
Bo: Are there any decorations left in the store? Oh, marlena, hi.
Marlena: Hey, bo.
Bo: Is everything okay?
Jack: What -- jennifer, what's wrong? What?
Jennifer: Nothing. Nothing. I was just talking to, uh, marlena about what happened.
Bo: Hey, hey, did you see him again?
Hope: He was outside.
Bo: Okay, we'll talk about it later.
Hope: Bo, actually, I want to -- I want to talk about it now. Jen opened up to her friends, and it really seems to be helping her, and I think maybe it would really help me.
Hope: Uh, jen, jack, marlena... uh, for a while now, you've all been asking me if I'm okay. I'm not. I've just been pretending to be. It's larry welch. I have been imagining that I am seeing him. Now, I know it's not real and that he's gone, he's dead, that he can't hurt me anymore, but when it's happening, it just really -- it feels so real.
Larry: Hope looked like she'd just seen a ghost. If she only knew.
Kate: You're disgusting.
Tony: Relax, kate.
Kate: Oh, you have some nerve coming over here, making lewd remarks.
Tony: I wasn't being lewd.
Kate: Oh, no?
Tony: No, you misunderstood me.
Kate: Oh, I see. You said you wanted the same thing from me that captain brady wants. There's not much there to be misunderstood.
Tony: Obviously there is. My interest lies in your history with my father, the mysterious reason why he paid you off.
Kate: Oh. Well, if stefano did pay me off, that's between him and me.
Tony: But it's the same information captain brady wants, hence his lovesick schoolboy act.
Kate: Oh, god, roman's passion is anything but schoolboy.
Tony: Let me tell you something. The only thing passionate these days that the bradys have is going after dimeras for something, anything. They will do anything to accomplish what they want, including leading on a lonely woman.
Kate: I am anything but lonely, and roman is not leading me on.
Tony: The love of his life was marlena evans. You're hardly his type.
Roman: Excuse me. Is this, uh, gentleman giving you trouble?
Kate: The only thing in this room that is giving me trouble is you.
Hope: Marlena, I guess the question is, uh, why didn't I tell you before -- the other day when I spoke to you? I don't know why I procrastinated.
Marlena: You weren't ready.
Hope: But I am now. And I want to start having regular sessions.
Marlena: There's no time like the present.
Hope: Tonight? But we were just getting everything ready for gran's party.
Jennifer: Oh, no. No, we can do that tomorrow.
Hope: Are you sure?
Jninifer: I'm positive.
Jack: Well, I'll just go get our coats then.
Marlena: I'm so glad that we talked.
Jennifer: You know, I am, too. I need to call you, and I will.
Jack: All right, we ready to blow the pop stand here?
Jennifer: Yes. Uh, yes. Thank you. I'll see you in the morning.
Hope: You bet.
Jennifer: Ready to go.
Hope: Yeah. Drive safely.
Jennifer: Thank you. Bye.
Jack: Bye. See you.
Bo: Good night.
Jack: Good night.
Bo: See you.
Bo: I'll be upstairs.
Hope: Oh, no, please, bo, would you stay? I'd like for you to stay if it's all right with you.
Marlena: Whatever makes you more comfortable. Why don't you sit?
Marlena: Close your eyes. Try to remember exactly what you saw, the last sighting. What do you see?
Hope: When I locked the door after you came in, marlena, a few moments later I looked out the window, and there was larry, only --
Marlena: Only what?
Hope: There was something different about him this time.
Roman: What do you want from kate?
Tony: That is the question of the evening.
Roman: Cut the games, tony.
Tony: Well, not that it's any of your business, but kate was alone, I was alone. I always find dinner much more enjoyable when I have scintillating company.
Roman: But kate's not alone. She's with me.
Kate: I most certainly am not.
Tony: So you heard the lady.
Roman: Don't be so damn stubborn, kate. Let's go to the table. I'm not going to leave you alone with him.
Kate: You know something? That is not your call to make. It's mine, and I prefer champagne to handcuffs.
Roman: Excuse us one minute, tony.
Kate: What are you doing?
Roman: Don't you do this.
Kate: Don't do what? Don't have a nice evening with a sophisticated, cultured man?
Roman: You're asking for a lot of trouble with him.
Kate: I told you before, roman, you're not my type. Why don't you go find yourself another marlena evans and leave me alone?
Kate: Well, sorry for the interruption.
Tony: It's okay, kate. But trust me -- over chianti classico and some mussels, perhaps even the veal with truffles, we'll find a way for you to forget about roman brady.
Jennifer: Oh, hurry!
Jack: Okay, okay, okay. All right.
Jack: Well, lucky for us, the gods did conspire to give us some time for a date after all.
Jennifer: Oh, is that how you see it?
Jack: Mm-hmm. And lucky for you, I checked out a movie earlier.
Jack: One of those mushy brits-in-india things that you like so much.
Jennifer: Now wait a minute. They are not mushy.
Jack: Really? Tell you what -- I am going to build us a nice hot fire. Uh... pop some popcorn, get some nice hot chocolate with kahlua, and we can sit down and decide what is and is not mushy.
Jack: Yeah. Yes?
Jennifer: You know, that really -- that, um, that sounds lovely, it really does, but I don't think I'll be able to stay awake through the opening ededits, really.
Jack: Okay. Then, uh, plan two -- uh... I'll draw you a nice hot bath avec bubbles, maybe a little cognac on the side, and then, to ensure your relaxing evening, I'll, uh, massage your temples and your neck and your back and -- and send you off for a wonderful night of sleep alone.
Jennifer: No, I -- I really don't want to go to bed alone tonight, jack.
Marlena: What do you mean, larry looked different this time? Different in what way?
Hope: I don't know. I can't exactly put my finger on it.
Marlena: All right. Close your eyes again. Try to focus. Picture how you saw him. Can you do that?
Hope: I'm tryin part of me doesn't want to.
Marlena: I know that it's painful. It's important. Go ahead and try.
Hope: He looks... he looks more real.
Marlena: More real. All right, keep focusing on that thought. Look at his features. His eyes, his nose...
Jack: I mean, that's -- that's, uh, that's a lovely thought, but do you really think that... I mean, do you think that you're ready for that?
Jennifer: No, no, I don't think that. I don't think that I'm ready to make love to you, but -- but I want to be, and I think that part of me healing is having you with me. I need you with me... to hold me. So will you do that? Will you just hold me all through the night?
Kate: Oh, I know what you're doing, anthony dimera. You're trying to get me drunk so you can pump me for information about me and stefano.
Tony: Oh, kate, you won't regret confiding in me.
Kate: Says you.
Tony: I don't know how much my father bequeathed to you, but whatever it was, I will double it, triple it. Just tell me what went on between you.
Kate: You dimeras are all alike. You offer money, and you think you can take whatever you want. Well, stefano took enough from me, and he's not going to take any more.
Roman: Kate, hold on.
Kate: Out of my way.
Roman: What did he -- what did he do to you?
Kate: Leave me alone.
Roman: Look, I just want to help.
Kate: I want everyone to leave me alone.
Tony: Well, good kate, bonny kate, kate the curse -- what exactly did my papa take from you?
Hope: Hey, what are you doing out here?
Bo: Oh, I just wanted to give you and marlena some privacy.
Hope: But I told you it was fine for you to stay.
Bo: Yeah, I know. What, do you need me for something?
Hope: We're done now.
Hope: Yeah, uh, marlena thought that, um, that was enough for tonight. She's inside getting ready to go.
Bo: Oh, okay. Come on.
Hope: Whoo. Cold out ther
Bo: Hey, marlena, thanks for cominbyby.
Marlena: You bet. It was my pleasure. I'll call and set up an appointment schedule for you.
Hope: Thank you so much.
Hope: Drive safely.
Marlena: Yes, I will. Thanks.
Bo: Okay, we'll see you.
Bo: Good night.
Hope: You weren't just leaving us alone, were you? You were looking for larry welch, right?
Bo: Yeah. I had to make sure he wasn't out there.
Hope: Even though you know he's dead? Yeah. Now you know what I've been going through
Bo: Hey. It's been an emotional day. Why don't I take you up to bed?
Hope: I'd like that.
Bo: Okay. I'll get the lights.
Hope: Wait a minute. I know what it was. I know what was different. It was his face. It wasn't only more real, it -- it was white, like a mask.
Larry: You know, I haven't had that much fun in a long time. I'm going to have to do that again real soon. Only -- only next time... you know, ghosts have certain limitations. The real thing can do so much more damage to the psyche. And that's what I plan to do, hope -- damage.
Tony's voice: Whether you want to admit it or not, you love them. Don't abandon them a second time. Don't do to them what their mother did. Their mother.
Marlena: Rock-a-bye baby
on the treetop
when the wind blows
the cradle will rock
when the bough breaks
the cradle will fall
and down will come baby
cradle and all
Chloe: Maybe tony's different.
Brady: He is as dangerous
s stefano dimera ever was. As long as he's alive, no one in my family is safe.
Tony: If you get a chance to know me, you'd find I'm quite different than my father.
John: When tony comes for you, this time, I'm going to be right there to stop him.
