By Amanda

Shawn-D: Whoa, whoa. Easy, easy, easy. Calm down.

Belle: Shawn, what is going on with them?

Shawn-D: I can't believe they freak out at the sight of a key.

Belle: Yeah, but they do -- first in the garage when I pulled out my keys, and now when Philip pulled out his.

Shawn-D: Maybe it's something they saw on TV.

Belle: Maybe they think it's a weapon. Maybe on their planet, it's a horrible weapon.

Shawn-D: I just wish we could communicate with them.

Belle: I have an idea.

Nancy: It's up. This is it. This could be the day. Oh, please, please, be the day. Yes, 99.2. Mm! Brenda, have you seen Craig?

Brenda: I'm afraid not, Mrs. Wesley.

Lexie: Oh, you're looking for Craig?

Nancy: Yes. Do you know where he is?

Lexie: He's probably home packing.

Nancy: What?

Lexie: You should be, too. Once this lawsuit goes forward, he's going to be disgraced, humiliated, and run out of town, and you won't be far behind him.

Bo: Hey, Craig. Thanks for coming by.

Craig: No problem, Bo. Thanks for having me down here. I'm willing to do anything that you think might work.

Bo: And, um, how's Chloe?

Craig: She's doing -- she's doing great now. Uh, thanks for asking. She's out of isolation and headed toward remission. But long term, I don't know. We just have to keep praying that she doesn't have a relapse before we find a bone marrow match.

Bo: Yeah. Well, my thoughts are with you.

Craig: Thank you.

Bo: Now let's --

Abe: Dr. Wesley.

Craig: Commander.

Bo: We're going to take another look at those hospital surveillance tapes. It's the only chance we have to find out how the babies were switched and who's responsible.

John: I know what you want, DiMera, and you're not going to get it.

Marlena: John, no. You're making a mistake.

John: Doc?

Tony: And why would you say that, Marlena?

Marlena: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt. Tony, I wasn't talking about you.

Tony: Really?

John: It's personal.

Marlena: Sorry.

Tony: Why do I get the feeling that both of you are hiding something from me, and if I did ask you what it was, you'd surely lie about it?

Abe: Look, why don't you come into my office? I got a video setup you can use.

Bo: Thanks, Abe. Here's the tape. You know what? Give me a second. I got to make a call.

Abe: Okay.

Craig: Sure.

Craig: Well, I'm sorry, commander. I know how awkward this must be for you.

Abe: I hate the fact that Lexie is suing the hospital. It's going to rip a lot of people apart, just like it did the two families involved -- Bo's and mine. I don't want that.

Craig: Well... in a perfect world, a lawsuit would lead us to the truth.

Abe: A perfect world.

Craig: Yeah. I'm afraid that Lexie's determined to make sure that truth never comes out.

Lexie: On the road of life, sweetie, you're either a bug or a windshield, and once I win this lawsuit, you'll be nothing but an ugly smear.

Nancy: You sadistic --

Lexie: I'm sure the staff will be so happy. They'll all be fighting to see who gets to scrape you off. Who knows? Maybe we can convince Mike Horton to come back as chief of staff. Or maybe even I'll apply for the job.

Nancy: With your criminal record? I doubt it.

Lexie: There is nothing criminal about a mother trying to keep her child.

Nancy: Except it wasn't your child. You knew it, and so did your father. Why else would he have threatened me about keeping quiet when I overheard you babbling about a baby switch the night of the Tuscany explosion?

Lexie: You leave my father out of this!

Nancy: The road of life, sweetie. When I'm through with you in court, you won't even qualify as a roadkill.

Lexie: You and your husband have taken on the wrong family. No one crosses a DiMera and gets away with it.

Nancy: Mm, threats from you without papa DiMera to back you up?

[Laughs] Don't make me laugh.

Lexie: My brother Tony donated a small fortune to leukemia research in your daughter's name.

Nancy: You leave my daughter out of this!

Lexie: No one wants to see her suffer. No one wants to see a mother suffer, either. You of all people should understand what I've been through. And it's all because of your husband and the incompetence of this hospital.

Nancy: Don't you ever mention my daughter again.

Lexie: You mark my words, missy. Someone is going to pay.

Shawn-D: What is it? You have a way of keeping these two from freaking out every time they see a stranger or a key?

Belle: Well, they can talk.

Shawn-D: Yeah, but they're not communicating. All they do is they repeat everything they hear us say or what they see on tv, but they have no idea what anything means.

Belle: Exactly. So we teach them, like you would teach a little kid. I'm sure Zack has a lot of books with pictures in them, maybe even a picture of a key.

Shawn-D: Even better -- we have flash cards, and the letter "k" has a picture of a key on it.

Belle: So your mom and Zack are out of town for a while. That means no one would miss these books.

Shawn-D: That's a great idea. I'll go get them.

[Telephone rings]

Belle: Oh, Shawn, you get the phone. I'll get the flash cards.

Shawn-D: Okay. They're on the dresser, or maybe the small bookcase.

Belle: I'll be right back.

[Ring]

Shawn-D: It's -- it's okay. It's just a -- a telephone. You know, like "E.T. Phone home"? Yeah? Hello?

Bo: Hey, Shawn.

Shawn-D: Hey, dad, what's going on?

Bo: I need you to do me a favor. Drop a check off at the harbormaster today.

Shawn-D: Sure.

Bo: It's for the rent on the "Fancy Face" slip. I think I left it on the kitchen counter.

Shawn-D: No problem. Hey, what's going on at work? Are you guys...

Cassie: [Imitates phone] E.T phone home.

Rex: Phone home.

Cassie: E.T. Phone home.

John: Just to clarify, Anthony, we're not the ones keeping secrets, you are. Which you have every right to do, of course, except where Samantha is concerned. Now, doc and I have asked her to stay away from you, but for some reason, you seem to be encouraging her.

Tony: Mm. You know, if you think I'm having romantic designs towards your daughter, Marlena, please, put your mind at rest. Nothing could be further from the truth.

John: Then why did you invite her to the dinner party?

Tony: I thought I explained it. I wanted to include as many members of your family as I could.

Marlena: And to the memorial service?

Tony: Well, Sami approached me. She just wanted to come to comfort me. But truth be known, I think she wanted to come because she wanted to get closer to the young man she's infatuated with -- Brandon Walker, yes. I'm not quite sure if he's got... to hold a woman like Samantha. She's a winner. She's bright, sheís... ambitious. But if we do have one thing in common, I'll tell you this -- I think it's because possibly we think we are regarded as pariahs in this town, and we're trying to live down that misconception.

Marlena: How do you know how Sami is regarded?

Tony: Because we've commiserated on occasion, and she'd be the first one to tell you. If she has a problem, it has nothing to do with me. Now, I'm being upfront and honest with both of you. I do hope you'll do the same to me. Now, if there have been any misunderstandings, I'm sorry.

Marlena: Let him go. Let him go, let him go.

John: Why?

Marlena: It's no time to pursue him, not when you're this angry.

John: I've got every right to be angry, because he's up to something. And if I don't find out what it is, you or someone else I love is going to get hurt.

Belle: Shawn? Shawn!

Shawn-D: Yeah? What?

Belle: Where are the twins?

Shawn-D: I don't know. I just went into the kitchen to get this check.

Belle: The front door was open when I came downstairs.

Shawn-D: No. Okay, you go out back and then circle the block.

Rex: [Imitates drowning]

Man: [Whistling]

John: Right now my main concern is Sami, because she's playing with fire. No matter what she thinks she's accomplishing with Tony, in the end she's going to get burned.

Marlena: Well, I've tried to make her understand that, but she's a grownup. I can't send her to her room, and I can't ground her.

John: There's got to be something we can do. I need to take a walk down by the water. I got to clear my head out.

Marlena: Well, I'd join you, honey, but I've got a patient coming in.

John: That's all right. I'll be back.

Marlena: Mm-hmm.

Brenda: I'll make sure he calls you as soon as he gets in, Dr. Miller. Thank you.

Tony: Excuse me, um, when do you expect Sami back from her break?

Brenda: 15 minutes ago, which means she probably won't be back for another hour or so.

John: Tony.

Tony: Oh, my god. What are you, stalking me now?

John: Well, now, if I was, you would never see me.

Tony: You know, I believe that.

John: Listen, Marlena and I were just talking, and we've decided to give you the benefit of the doubt where's Sami's concerned. We're going to take you at your word that it's -- well, like you said -- nothing more than a friendship.

Tony: Oh, I appreciate that.

John: Mm-hmm.

Tony: And I understand your concerns. I mean, my father put you through hell. I mean, I'd be surprised if you were not cautious or even suspicious. And as I said to you before, you know, I want to make a fresh start here in Salem, and I think my friendship with you, Marlena, and Samantha is, I think, a good first step towards that goal.

John: Yeah, well, you better be careful, though, 'cause most of the people you make friends with here in Salem are always coming at you with some kind of a business opportunity.

Tony: Is that the voice of experience?

John: Well, I've seen my share of business plans, made a few offers myself, yeah.

Tony: Well, I'm an investor. I'm always looking. Don't know much about venture capital, but if anything comes across your desk, give me a holler.

John: You're probably going to regret that you said that, because I just happen to have something interesting right here with me as we speak. In fact, when you get a moment, why don't you, uh, why don't you look this over?

Tony: Oh. NASA research -- their latest space program. Well, what are you, going to take a ride on the shuttle?

John: I am researching a certain metal -- very rare, very expensive. Actually, it's used in the space program.

Tony: Hmm.

John: Now what's interesting is that it withstands extreme changes in temperatures in outer space, and it has huge commercial applications. I think it's a very ripe opportunity.

Tony: Hmm. Well, if you get beyond the planning stage, let's talk again.

John: Sounds like a deal. Most definitely I will be in touch. Good to see you.

Tony: Yes. Good to see you, too.

[Device beeping]

Tony: [Thinking] The key is here. John has it with him.

Lexie: Tony! Turn that thing off!

Once upon a time,

Lexie: No cell phones in the hospital. Didn't you read the signs?

Tony: Oh, dear. It just didn't register, I'm afraid.

Lexie: Well, the microphonics interfere with all the patient monitoring machines.

Tony: Yes, well, things have changed since I've been away. Forgive me.

Lexie: What are you doing here, anyway?

Tony: Oh, I was just here for a meeting. And you? Are you here to see the young Mr. Walker?

Lexie: I did see him earlier. But, actually, I am here to warn all my wonderful friends at the hospital that thanks to my lawsuit, things are going to get very difficult for them. Ugly even.

Tony: Do you think it's wise to reveal all that?

Lexie: Frankly, I don't give a damn. University hospital and Dr. Craig Wesley are going to pay for destroying my family. I will have my revenge.

Brenda: No, ma'am, I can't find him anywhere. I'm afraid he's left the hospital.

Nancy: Left? Where? Where did he go?

Brenda: I'm sorry, I don't know. I've been paging him, but he's not answering.

Nancy: Well, keep paging him, and when you find him, tell him to come to his office immediately, as in now, this instant. My temperature's up. I'm ovulating. Damn it! Where are you, Craig?

Craig: [Sighs] Detective, I can't watch it anymore. I just -- I canít.

Bo: There's got to be something that's wrong, out of place.

Craig: Well, I don't see it, because everything is exactly as the nurses on duty that night told us.

Bo: The babies were in the wrong bassinet at one time. The nurses noticed that, and switched them back.

Craig: Bo, it doesn't mean anything. Look, you have to understand. The key here is the I.D. Bracelets. The whole system is predicated on -- on those I.D. Bracelets being given to a newborn immediately after birth, so even if there was a different name on the bassinet, it wouldn't matter, because... you could confirm the baby's identity by the I.D. Bracelet, and they are impossible to tamper with.

Abe: Anything?

Bo: No, not a damn thing.

Craig: Nothing. Um, excuse me, commander. I've got to get back to the hospital.

Abe: Thank you for your time.

Craig: Sure.

Bo: Hey, Craig. I'm going to keep at this, so stay in touch.

Craig: Good. I hope you come up with something, because, unfortunately, Lexie's going to have her day in court, and no matter what the verdict, to put it crudely... there's going to be a lot of blood spilled.

Shawn-D: Belle? Belle? Hey, any sign of them?

Belle: They are not back or in the garage.

Shawn-D: Okay, come on, they couldn't have gotten too far.

Man: Mr. Brady? Mr. Brady? Anybody around?

Cassie: Anybody around?

[Thud]

Marlena: If you won't give back the key, then I will!

[Gasps]

John: Doc, give me the key.

Marlena: No, we canít.

John: We can't what?

Marlena: This key must never be in the DiMeras' possession again.

Marlena: If Tony ever gets his hands on that key, our happiness, our very future, will be destroyed.

We will return for the second half of "days of our lives" in just a moment.

Abe: You know, the more this goes on, the more I see Stefano all over it.

Bo: You and me both.

Abe: I don't know how he did this to Lexie. Let's hope she's not involved in any of this.

Bo: There's got to be something I missed.

Craig's voice: The key here is the I.D. Bracelets. The whole system is predicated on -- on those I.D. Bracelets. The key here is the I.D. Bracelets. So even if there was a different name on the bassinet... the whole system is predicated... the key here is the I.D. Bracelets. You could confirm the baby's identity... the key here is the I.D. Bracelets. You could confirm the baby's identity by the I.D. Bracelets. The whole system is predicated on -- on... the key here is the I.D. Bracelets.

Bo: Abe. Abe, come here. There's something you got to see.

Tony: Listen, I understand your feelings, and they're real, and you want to act on them, but don't you think that if the hospital's not at fault, that you're making a serious mistake?

Lexie: What do you mean, not at fault? Do you think father had something to do with the baby switch?

Tony: Alexandra, you know, I had to face many years of my life the reality of father's machinations. Now, all I'm saying is don't close your eyes to the fact that he could have had a hand in this.

Lexie: Tony, you know how much father loved his children. He would never do anything to hurt us, and he certainly wouldn't lie to us. He swore to me that he had nothing to do with what happened to those babies.

Tony: You know, it's not what he said to us, Alexandra. It's what he didn't say that's important.

Lexie: Tony, I am not naive, okay? I know he wasn't a saint.

Tony: Whatever it was he withheld from us -- that's something that could haunt us down the road.

Lexie: Well, I'm not worried about that.

Tony: Okay. Listen, you can take care of your own matters. I know that. Anyway, I have to go.

Lexie: Okay.

Tony: You know, if you need anything, you'll call me.

Lexie: Yeah, of course. Thanks.

Tony: I've got to get that key back from John. Otherwise, he's going to solve this mystery before I do.

John: Hey, I thought I heard something. How you doing?

Man: Okay. Yourself?

John: Pretty good, pretty good. Just kicking it, enjoying the day.

Man: Yeah, it is a beauty, isn't it?

John: Yeah, it sure is. Not many boats out, though.

Man: Are you a sailor?

John: Nah, not this week.

Man: Yeah. Well, but if you're ever interested in a boat, Mr. Black, be sure to give me a call.

John: Well, I'll do that. Thanks.

Man: Okay. Have a good day.

John: All right, Tony, just what does this key mean to you? What the hell does it have to do with outer space?

Brenda: I've been paging you for over an hour. We're having scheduling problems with the surgical rotation.

Woman: I've been paging you, too, Dr. Wesley. Mickey Horton needs to talk to you immediately, and the court set a date for Lexie carver's lawsuit.

Brenda: And your wife's trying to reach you. She says it's code blue -- top priority.

Woman: Dr. Wesley, all the board members have been calling. They want to know what we're going to do, and they want to talk to you as soon as possible.

Brenda: And Mrs. Wesley's in your office.

Woman: Should I call them back?

Craig: What? Now?

Nancy: Right now.

Brenda: Uh...

Woman: But...

Bo: Okay, it's coming up. Watch. Okay, right...there. Did you see it?

Abe: I don't know. Maybe, but -- play it again.

Bo: I think we got something. I'm going to have to take this to the lab and have them enhance it. Okay. Look -- real close, real close. Right there, right there.

Abe: Yeah, it's possible. Yeah, go ahead, take it in.

Bo: Okay. This is going to be good, Abe. I'll bring it back as soon as possible.

Tony: John Black is as slick as an oil spill. He has this key. I'm sure he has the key. But why is he interested in outer space? Why? Bart, get in here.

Bart: You didn't bellow. You didn't bellow like your father. You -- you called, sir.

Tony: I need some information... and I need it now.

Belle: Shawn, why are we here?

Shawn-D: 'Cause we've been everywhere else. I thought maybe the water meant something to them.

Belle: We haven't been up to the hill at lookout point. Let's go there.

Shawn-D: All right, but I'm going to have to grab the truck, but let me drop this off at the harbormaster's office and we'll go.

Belle: Okay, I'm going to wait right here.

Shawn-D: I'll be right back.

Belle: Hi.

Cassie: Hi.

[Telephone rings]

Craig: Dr. Wesley. Ha ha. Yeah, yeah. Um, uh, I-I'll be there. I'll be right there. Okay, thank you, thank you. Got to run. Sorry.

Nancy: It's okay. You're still on duty.

Craig: Yeah, well, I just want you to relax. Try and relax right here, okay?

Nancy: Craig, do you think that maybe I'M...

Craig: Listen, if it doesn't happen this time, sweetie, we will just try again.

Nancy: Right. Um, what do you think the chances that -- I mean, what do you think the chances are if I do conceive?

Craig: 25% chance that the baby will be a bone marrow match for Chloe, and 100% chance that we will love him or her regardless. It's a win-win situation.

Belle: It's okay. It's me -- Belle.

Cassie: Belle.

Belle: Yeah, Belle. Good. Come on out. Come on.

Shawn-D: They were here.

Belle: Yeah, I think maybe they were drawn to the water, like you said. Cassie said my name. Watch. Belle.

Cassie: Belle.

Belle: Isn't that cool?

Shawn-D: She's pointing to herself, Belle.

Rex: She's pointing to herself, Belle.

Belle: They're just mimicking us.

Shawn-D: What happened to you?

Shawn-D: Um... okay, why are you afraid... of keys?

Rex and Cassie: [Gasping]

Belle: This is weird.

Shawn-D: Three?

Rex: Th-three.

Shawn-D: What could that mean?

Belle: Maybe there aren't two of them. Maybe there are three.

Shawn-D: No, I-I don't think so. I think he's trying to tell us what he's afraid of.

Belle: Tell us what's wrong. Why are you so scared?

Bart: What kind of information are you looking for?

Tony: Was my father or any of his operatives ever involved in any kind of work that dealt with outer space?

Bart: Nope, not that I know of.

Tony: Damn.

Bart: Wait a minute. Wait just an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny, cotton-pickin' little minute here. I want to qualify that answer and say nope, except for that satellite your padre put into orbit.

Tony: Satellite? I want you to tell me everything about it.

Bart: Well, the first thing was it was... far out. Still up there, as far as I know. But that was really dr. Rolf's bailiwick.

Tony: Well, you contact this Dr. Rolf immediately.

Bart: I canít. He's -- Rolfski's missing without leave, disappeared, gonzo poof.

Tony: Right, right, right. I'll tell you what we'll do -- I want you to get every piece of information you can on the satellite. I want to know what my father did with it, and I want to know what he was planning to do with it in the future, okay?

Bart: Yes, sir.

John: [In falsetto voice] Are you waiting for your next appointment, dr. Evans?

Marlena: Yes.

John: Hi. Uh... this is all kind of new to me. Um... would you prefer I-I take the couch or -- or, um, the chair?

Marlena: The couch.

John: Yes, ma'am.

Marlena: I was going to suggest that you come in, Mr. Black.

John: I'm searching for meaning, doctor.

John: H-hey, hey, hey. You okay?

John: I saw Tony again. I put my not-so-subtle plan into motion.

Marlena: What did you do?

John: I asked him if he would like to invest in my outer space metals company.

Marlena: You didnít.

John: I did. I even showed him the research report on the metal.

Marlena: And what did he say?

John: Nothing. It meant nothing to him. He was clueless that the metal in that report is the same metal in this key.

Marlena: He must not know what it is.

John: That's my take on it so far.

Marlena: This may sound like a stretch, but do you suppose there's any connection between the key and the meteor shower?

John: I don't think so, no.

Marlena: Before the kids changed their story, they were convinced they had -- they had seen a spaceship landing.

John: I found this key long before that happened, and I doubt seriously that the DiMeras could engineer a meteor shower. So what do you think?

Marlena: I think there's more there than we understand, and I think our future depends on it.

John: Doc... look, I know that you're dead serious about all this, the meteor shower, spaceships, the key, but why do you think it will affect our future?

Marlena: It's a deep intuition. I feel it. When I touch that key, it's like I can feel somebody walking over my grave, like there's some undeniable force that's reaching out towards me.

John: Stefano?

Marlena: Well, he's not done with us yet. That was obvious during the reading of the will.

John: And Tony is here to see that it's carried out.

Marlena: Even the thought of that key being anywhere --

John: We will not be afraid of this, but we will figure out what secrets it will unlock.

Marlena: With Stefano, anything is possible.

John's voice: I am researching certain metal. It's very rare, it's very expensive. Actually, it's used in the space program.

Tony: Father said that it was the key to my past and my future. What the hell has that got to do with outer space?

Belle: Don't worry. It's okay.

[Footsteps]

Man: Hey, guys.

Shawn-D: Hey, how's the fishing?

Man: Pretty good.

Man #2: Yeah, they're biting on minnows. Look in here.

Shawn-D: Yeah.

Man: Good spot over there.

Shawn-D: All right.

Man: We're going to get some more.

Shawn-D: Yeah. Take care.

Man #2: All righty.

Belle: Okay, Shawn, we have to do something with the twins.

Shawn-D: Uh, yeah, but what?

Belle: I don't know, but if we find a quiet, secluded spot, I know we can get them to trust us. We could teach them a few simple things so we can communicate.

Shawn-D: Hey, let's get out on a boat.

Belle: The boat.

Shawn-D: "Fancy Face." It's perfect.

Belle: Okay.

Shawn-D: It's okay. Come on. Follow me.

Shawn-D: We're going to go in here, okay?

Lexie: So, you're still here. I thought for sure you'd turn tail and run.

Craig: Lexie.

Lexie: Now that we have a court date, it's only a matter of time before everyone knows what a jerk you are.

Craig: We're not going to do this.

Lexie: As head of this hospital, you were responsible for that baby switch, and there is no way you can prove otherwise.

[Knock on door]

Abe: Come in.

Man: Commander, Detective Brady.

Abe: Yeah, what do you have?

Man: I enhanced that surveillance tape from the hospital nursery that Detective Brady brought me. You better take a look at it, because I think we've got a breakthrough.

Abe: Bo.

Bo: All right.
