[Knocking on door]

Sami: Let me in!

Kate: No!

Sami: Give that backpack back! I bought everything in it! It's mine!

Kate: Oh! The recorder is ours, and so is the tape! Where is it?

Lucas: I don't know! It's got to be here somewhere, or else she wouldn't be banging on the door like that. You know, what kind of mother does that? What kind of mother lies about her son's father hitting him, and what kind of mother uses that lie to keep them apart, and then gloats about it? You know what? It's about time the whole world knows what Sami did.

Kate: Will they? Because I don't think the tape is here.

Sami: Open the door! [Pounding on door]

Lucas: Shut up!

Harold: I'm so having second thoughts about this. You really think we did a good thing?

Vern: Well, I'm hoping it works out for the best. And you know what? I think it will. Jack can handle any boss.

Harold: Even this one?

Jack: Jack Deveraux at your service, sir. In preparation for your new job as editor-in-chief of the "Spectator," I'm sure you've researched the history of this prestigious publication. And, therefore, it must have come to your attention that the most committed, aggressive, not to mention award-winning reporter of this much-lauded journal is none other than myself -- Jack Deveraux.

Jack: I can see that you're a man of few words, so I'll close now and be concise. After all, my reputation speaks for itself.

Jennifer: It certainly does.

Lexie: Can't you just trust me? Hmm? I know -- I know I lied to you, but that's in the past, and now I'm trying to do what's right and what's best for Isaac, for all of us. Honey, please... you have to believe that. Hmm?

Abe: All right, fine. I'll help you with the packing.

Lexie: Listen! I have a better idea. While I'm finishing up here, why don't you load these in the car, take them home, start to unpack, and I'll meet you there? How's that?

Abe: Okay.

Lexie: No, no, not that one.

Abe: Why not?

Lexie: Well, Isaac's diapers are in there. I may need to change them before we head out. I'll take it. I'll see you at home soon, okay?

Abe: Yeah, all right. I will see you there.

Lexie: Honey, honey, I can't tell you how much it warms my heart knowing that we're going to be at home in our own little place, all cozy. Love you.

Abe: Love you.

Bo: Have they located Lexie and Isaac?

Roman: We're tracking them, Bo.

Bo: They're headed out of t-- Abe, how did this happen?

Abe: I should've stopped her. I should have known.

Hope: I'm his mother! I'm his mother, Abe. She is not taking my son away.

Lexie: It's okay, sweetheart. You're not scared, are you? No. Mommy's taking care of you. Uh-huh.

Isaac: Mommy.

Lexie: That's right. It's just the two of us now, Isaac. You're my whole life. We won't cry, okay? We won't cry for Daddy, and we won't cry for our friends in Salem. I am so sorry, sweetheart. I am so sorry. But I'm doing this for you, okay? It's all for you 'cause I love you so much. We'll never go back there again.

[Pounding on door]

Kate: It's not here. It's not here!

Lucas: What do you mean? It has to be in here!

Kate: Fine! Then you find it!

Sami: Let me in, Lucas. This is not funny anymore! [Pounding]

Sami: Open the door, Lucas! Come on, Kate!

Lucas: Oh, wait a minute! Wait a minute! Look, look, look!

Sami: I've been waiting out here in the hall for you! You want me to call the police? You stole my son's backpack! I'll do it! I'll call them! I'll call my father! God, please don't let them get the tape.

Jack and Jennifer: You!

Jack: This is not possible.

Jennifer: Why? Not qualified enough, not talented enough, didn't pay enough attention to my master teacher?

Jack: Master teacher? Why, thank you.

Jennifer: I was referring to Vern.

Jack: Oh, fine. Fine. Let's just rewrite history, pretend this was never my desk, never my chair!

Jennifer: Goldilocks is sitting in Papa Bear's chair, and he doesn't like it. It's so sad that you can't be happy for me, Jack. You're so jealous. Can't you just congratulate me on my accomplishment?

Jack: Congratulations, from the bottom of my heart.

Jennifer: Oh, the very, very bottom.

Jack: Look... if I appear less than enthusiastic about your new position, it's only because, well, I assumed I might be considered for this job based on my own merits, and now, well... Jennifer, I should give you due credit. After all, you've always been in the spirit of the best reporters -- fair and objective. Besides, no one knows more about my marriage than you do! And, of course, you want this paper to be the best it can be.

Jennifer: Yes, absolutely. I do. So let me refresh your memory, Jack. My boss is Oliver Wentworth, and he would likely fire me if I so blithely decided to bring on his least favorite person in the world, especially since his son Harold, to whom you told that most damaging lie, is also working here.

Jack: Learning the business from the ground up -- I know. Well, believe it or not, Harold and I have bridged our differences.

Jennifer: How is that possible?

Jack: Oh, Jennifer, and I promise you, anything is possible. And if you want to hire me, I know you'll find the courage, deep --

Jennifer: No, no, no! You misunderstand. I am not sparing your feelings here. Oliver or no Oliver, you are the last person on the face of this earth that I would want to hire, so you go find another pavement to pound! Hit the road, Jack!

Abe: Hope, uh... I'm sorry about what happened. And we will bring -- we'll bring your son back to you. And, uh, Lexie -- I know, I know she's desperate, but she would never do anything to put Isaac in jeopardy.

Hope: That doesn't mean she won't try to take my son away from me forever, Abe.

Bo: So he can grow up to be a DiMera.

Hope: And that's not jeopardy?

Roman: Listen, Abe wants to see Isaac back here safe and sound every bit as much as you do.

Hope: Then what is he going to do about it?

Roman: If Lexie tries to leave Salem, whatever it takes, she will be stopped.

[Cellular phone rings] [Ring]

Lexie: What?

Rolf: Where are you?

Lexie: I'm almost at the landing pad.

Rolf: Keep driving.

Lexie: Why?

Rolf: You must remain in motion until the helicopter arrives.

Lexie: Rolf, you promised to make this happen! Isaac and I have to get away. Now that I have decided there is no going back, we can't get caught. Now you get that helicopter there, and you get it there now!

Jack: Listen, Jennifer, there's something you should know. Harold spoke to his father on my behalf, as did your predecessor Vern. Oliver and I have had a coming together of sorts, a rapprochement, if you will. Oliver has given me his blessing, a W-4, and a job offer.

Jennifer: A job offer?

Jack: So, you see, you turned me away without the benefit of all the facts.

Jennifer: The facts, Jack? The facts? The truth is a journalist's stock-in-trade, and yet telling the truth is an alien concept for you. So I am sorry. It does no good for me or this paper to have the likes of you on our staff. So for the same reason that I don't want you in my life personally, I don't want you in it professionally. The "Spectator" has no use for a pathological liar.

Jack: I came to you out of courtesy. I'm sorry you can't accord me the same respect. Your boss wants me. I'm here whether you like it or not, so if I don't hit the road, Jennifer, will you?

Sami: Oh! I had it. I had it right in my hands, and I let Beavis and Butt-Head take it away! I'm not going to give up!

Kate: What, did somebody decide not to call Daddy after all?

Lucas: Hey, hey!

Sami: Just tell me where the tape is because I will tear this place apart looking for it. Where is it, Lucas?

Lucas: Stop it! Stop it, Sami, stop it! Hey. You know what, Mom? Will is alone in Sami's apartment. Maybe you should look after him.

Sami: Oh, my God! You don't have it, do you? Well, don't bother because the door is locked for Will's protection. I'm not going to give you another chance to try to ruin my son's life! Oh, and how about you, stealing from Will? I'll be sure to tell him that his father would steal candy from a little kid.

Lucas: I don't understand. I don't understand what happened.

Kate: Why did you have to tip her off? If she thought we had the tape, maybe she'd stop looking for it herself!

Lucas: But we don't have it, and we need it, so what good would that do?

Kate: Ohh! Oh...

Sami: They better not have been lying. I mean, if they have the tape, they'd be holding it over my head. I would have heard them play it if they had it, right? I would have heard it through the door, so --

[Light rock music playing]

Will: Mommy.

Sami: Will, honey, hi. Oh, come here. Give your mommy a hug. Oh, I love you so much, Will. I love you so much.

Lucas: I-I don't understand what just happened. I mean, obviously, she thought the tape was in the backpack, but it wasn't, so it's got to be in her apartment.

Kate: I don't know. Maybe it was all just an act. Maybe she never really had it. Maybe she was just trying to get us to give it up.

Lucas: Which we're never going to do. We just need a new plan... a new plan. We're not going to let Sami destroy that tape before we can use it to destroy her.

Sami: Will, I am so glad you found this! What music are you listening to, honey? Are you, uh, are you making a tape? You are so smart!

Will: Mommy, I'm not finished with it yet.

Sami: Oh. Well, it looks like you're having fun. Here's your tape back. Let me tell you, you can record whatever you want to on that.

Man: Officer Smith patched in, sir.

Roman: Fine. Thanks. Smith, what can you tell us?

Smith: Mrs. Carver seems to be driving around in circles, captain.

Hope: Where is she taking my baby?

Abe: Maybe she's just driving around trying to clear her head -- you know, come to terms with what's going on.

Bo: Come on, Abe, if you thought that, you wouldn't have someone tailing her.

Abe: Bo, you know I'm not in the business of taking chances, so let's just hope for the best, huh? Smith, continue to stay at least two car lengths behind her. Lexie was a police officer. She can spot a tail pretty easily, so we don't want her to realize that she's being followed.

Lexie: [Dialing telephone] [Telephone rings] [Ring]

Rolf: Hello?

Lexie: Rolf, what's the status on the helicopter?

Rolf: I contacted the pilot. He's encountered some strong winds, but he's going to do his best to reach the rendezvous point on time. And...How are you doing?

Lexie: I'm scared, but I'm okay. I'm just -- there's been a dark mid-sized sedan a couple of cars back for at least a mile.

Rolf: A tail?

Lexie: I don't know, but I'll find out. If he is following me, we'll have to get rid of him.

Jennifer: You would just love it if I left, wouldn't you?

Jack: Oh-ho-ho, not at all. You're a fine editor, Jennifer. The best! The Jack and Jennifer days were the glory years in this newspaper, and we both know that you wouldn't be sitting behind that desk if it weren't for m--

Jennifer: If it weren't for Oliver Wentworth. And I don't believe for a minute that he offered you a job after everything that happened in Las Vegas, so in the middle of me calling you a liar, you come up with the biggest whopper of all, right, Jack? Well, you know what? Life is too short. I was at my cousin Hope's house today, and do you know that she had her little baby taken away from her?

Jack: Oh, my God. J.T.?

Jennifer: Yeah, so I don't have the will or the time to deal with your pettiness.

Jack: I'm sorry. I --

Jennifer: And you with Vegas, because it was a bust, you think that you have nothing else to lose now?

Jack: We are talking about my livelihood!

Jennifer: We are talking about my life, and you know what? You never had any luck when it came to gambling, and I call your bluff.

Jack: And I call yours. You want me here. You need me!

Jennifer: I need you like I need the plague, and don't you think you have plagued me long enough? And I need you? As if to say that I can't do this job without you?

Jack: No, Jennifer, you're tremendously capable, but you J-- you're Woodward without Bernstein! But together we can do twice as much -- a hundred times as much!

Jennifer: Get out!

Jack: I'm not bluffing, Jennifer. Oliver did hire me.

Jennifer: You know what? I am un-hiring you, and as of this moment, you are fired, so get your things and get out now!

Abe: Smith, is there any chance my wife might be on her way home?

Smith: She's going away from your house, sir. Seems to be heading out of town by way of the riverfront.

Bo: She's obviously not going to the train station or airport.

Hope: Maybe she's thinking she'll get away by boat.

Roman: She's not going anywhere, Hope, we promise you.

Smith: Commander?

Abe: Yeah, go ahead.

Smith: I'm afraid she might have made me.

Roman: Damn it!

Smith: She's making a quick turn. I'm going to pull back.

Hope: Oh, God, please, don't let her go too fast. Don't let Isaac get hurt.

Abe: Pull back, Smith. Don't make her run, and whatever you do, don't lose her.

Hope: Or my baby.

Lexie: Rolf, the car is keeping a discreet distance, but it's following me. I'm sure.

Rolf: Just don't panic.

Lexie: Abe put him on my tail. How could he do this to me?

Rolf: Concentrate, Alexandra. Do you think you can shake him?

Lexie: No, I don't think so. I don't want to risk harming Isaac by driving too fast.

Rolf: It's all right. I'll handle it. I know what to do. You just stay on the line and follow my instructions. Bart, get in here! Alexandra needs our help!

Lexie: Hurry, Rolf. I've got to get on that chopper and get my son away from here before they catch me.

Kate: A new plan. We need a new plan.

Lucas: Yeah, a better one this time, okay? I don't want to be stuck playing some hotel maintenance worker or a police informant or a Titan security guard. Come on, Mom, what's next -- bozo the clown, maybe a giant chicken? [Imitates chicken clucking]

Kate: You know, the only uniform change we're going to see is Sami -- Sami changing into prison stripes, or maybe a pine haven-esque hospital gown. You know, the more I think about it, she really belongs in a padded cell, you know? But wherever she goes, she will never again blackmail us or harm us ever again.

Lucas: That goes double for my son. I just don't want him to think I'm the one who took his mother away from him.

Kate: Honey, someday he's going to thank you that you saved him from growing up to be just like her.

Lucas: I know, I know. You're right, you're right. He'll never hear half of the horrible things she's done... the things she admitted to on that tape. You know, if there was any good in you at all, it's gone now -- any goodness, any shred of humanity. It's a tragedy for will. He's going to need a mother. Obviously, he doesn't have one.

Sami: Oh, shut up!

Lucas: You know, a mother is supposed to provide love, guidance, and support. She's supposed to be generous and selfless. At least, that's what I've heard. I am so glad Will has me because when it boils down to it, I'm his only parent.

Sami: Oh, just shut up, Lucas! That's it! How could you do this to me? Stop it! Look what you did to my dress, you son-of-a-- man!

Lucas: You know, my brother's a lot smarter than you give him credit for. He'll never believe I abandoned my son, ever!

Sami: He'll believe it if I tell him it's true.

Lucas: You miserable little --

Sami: Oh, so what happened to your uppity inner peace crap? I'm so disappointed to hear you yell.

Lucas: Never happened, Sami. I never hit my son!

Sami: What, are you trying to absolve yourself with me? I already know that it didn't happen, and you know what? I don't give a rat's behind! It all came down to the fact that it was your word against mine, and Austin believed me. He believed me then, and he'll believe me now.

Austin: No...I won't.

Lucas: Horrifying.

Kate: You can say that again.

Lucas: If Austin would just blab to the whole world. But, no, he's too damn honorable.

Kate: Well, honey, you know, even if he did, it's only hearsay. The most that would ever get us would be visitation rights. No, we're definitely going after much more than that. And, remember, we don't even know all of the ammunition that we might have on that tape. I mean, everything she might have said after you left that hotel room was recorded. Oh, honey, we need that tape. We need that tape to bring Sami down for good.

Lucas: How are we going to do that when she has the tape?

Kate: How? We just have to pray that she doesn't really know where it is.

Lucas: Pray?

Kate: And even if she does have it, it just means that we have to get it back.

[Light rock music playing]

Sami: Will, you need help figuring that out? Let's see. The record button...

Sami: I think that is the most beautiful music I have ever heard.

Will: It is?

Sami: Yeah, it is much better than the old stuff that was on that before. In fact, in a couple more songs, all that old stuff will be gone, and we'll just have beautiful songs to listen to. You know, like the one about the big, bad she-wolf, and how she and her son got what was coming to them, and little boys and girls lived happily ever after.

Will: That's not a song.

Sami: Uh-huh!

Will: Nuh-unh.

Sami: Uh-huh!

Will: Nuh-unh.

Sami: Uh-huh!

Will: Nuh-unh.

Sami: Uh-huh!

Will: Nuh-unh.

Rolf: Now do you understand what you must do?

Bart: I understand that I'd rather you did it.

Rolf: But you're so much better at it.

Bart: I am not!

Rolf: Silence! Futures are at stake -- as in yours. It's up to you.

Rolf: Here.

Bart: Gee, thanks.

Rolf: Well, what are you standing around for? Get going.

Bart: Right.

Rolf: All right, Alexandra, the plan is in place.

Hope: Is she speeding?

Smith: Not so much. I'm following a little farther back, but I don't dare give her any more space.

Roman: What are your coordinates now?

Smith: We're on linden at pass.

Bo: Ah, man, that's the middle of nowhere.

Roman: Still heading out of Salem?

Smith: Affirmative.

Roman: Wait till she reaches the city limits. Hit the lights, pull her over.

Smith: Yes, sir.

Hope: God.

Roman: I'm sorry, partner.

Hope: Oh, my God, this is unbelievable. It's obvious that she's fleeing. What are you waiting for? Pull her over now, before something goes wrong!

Roman: Hope --

Hope: This is my son! She's not getting away with my son.

Abe: Lexie, uh...

Abe: You know, uh... saying goodbye to my son is the hardest thing I've ever had to do, but I know in my heart it was right. When we married, I -- I believed it was forever. But the woman I exchanged vows with just doesn't exist anymore. We haven't had a marriage for a long, long time, and I'm the one that's going to walk out that door, but you're the one that left our marriage... with a vengeance. I look at you now, and I... I don't know who you are. You know, one of these days, you're going to -- you're going to catch yourself in a mirror, and even you won't recognize yourself. Well, see? There you go. I'm giving you way too much credit again, because you'll probably be proud of what you see.

Rolf: Are you still being followed?

Lexie: Yes.

Rolf: Give me your exact location now. Are you still on Linden?

Lexie: Yes, I'm at Dorsey. I'm heading West.

Rolf: Very good. Now continue straight ahead.

Lexie: Rolf, the street veers right.

Rolf: Just continue straight.

Lexie: Rolf, there's a boulder straight ahead!

Rolf: Look, just keep going!

Lexie: No!

Rolf: Yes! You must trust me.

Lexie: Oh, Isaac. Aah!

Roman: Smith. Pull her over now.

Smith: I would if I could, sir.

Hope: What?

Smith: I came around a corner. There's a huge boulder at the end of the road. I see tire tracks leading right up to it, but there's no sign of the car. I'm sorry, sir. I think I lost her.

Hope: Oh, my God, no. Oh, my -- no, Bo.

Jack: I'm not going anywhere. I'm happy to work with you. You're the one with the problem, so why don't you quit?

Jennifer: Because I'm the boss, and I don't have to work with anyone that I can't stand to look at, so you're going to have to be the one to go.

Jack: You can't fire me. I haven't started yet.

Jennifer: Then put your pride aside and quit.

Jack: No, you quit.

Jennifer: No, you quit.

Jack: No, you.

Jennifer: No, you.

Jack: You.

Vern: I told you everything was going to be fine.

Harold: This is fine?

Jack: No, you!

Vern: It's pretty status quo for them.

Jennifer: You, you, you, you!

Jack: You, you, you, you, you, you, you. Ahem. You.

Jack: You're right.

Jennifer: I'm right?

Jack: It would be ridiculous for you to quit.

Jennifer: Thank you.

Jack: I mean, you're really going to do a fantastic job.

Jennifer: I hope so.

Jack: I know so.

Jennifer: You're buttering me up.

Jack: Six months -- that's all I ask. I'll do whatever you want me to.

Jennifer: You'll do whatever I want you to do?

Jack: Okay, okay. No secretarial, no janitorial, no...cafeterial. But I'll take the worst assignments, the lowest of the low, and make them respectable, exciting, coveted.

Jennifer: Oh, as in you get promoted to editor-in-chief, and people will be begging for your leftovers.

Jack: Editor-in-Chief? Threatened already, are we?

Jennifer: No.

Jack: Good. You shouldn't be. I'm not here to take your job, Jennifer. I'm here to enhance your work. And we may not live together well, but we have always worked together well, always learned from each other, always complemented each other. All right, all right, where was I?

Jennifer: We're on the fourth synonym in a row for the word "innocent."

Jack: Uh, blameless, faultless, irreproachable --

Jennifer: And you're sure you're not overdoing this, right, Jack?

Jack: What are you talking about? I'm just getting warmed up here.

Jennifer: I think you feel responsible for all the bad things that have happened to Steve and Kayla, and I feel like you're trying to make it up to them.

Jack: What are you talking about? That's not me. I live to cause problems for every poor soul that crosses my path. That's a Deveraux family tradition.

Jennifer: Right. Not everyone belies that, Jack.

Jack: Well, then all those people deserve what they have coming to them.

Jennifer: And what is that?

Jack: Blameless, faultless, irreproachable, um, um... impeccable.

Jennifer: Impeccable? All right, spell it for me. I-m --

Jack: No, no, that's, uh, no K's, two C's...

Jennifer: I-m-m-p --

Jack: No, no, no. I-m-m -- no, I-m-p-e-c -- wait a minute. Here.

Jennifer: I think I have it. I-m-p --

Jack: No, no, no, let me --

Jennifer: Just look at it right here. That's it. I think that's right.

Jack: Get it down here where I can see it.

Jennifer: Can you see it? I think that's right. Look at it.

Jack: Uh... yeah, that, uh... that -- that looks very good.

Jennifer: All right, well, I think that you should look at it close, 'cause I'm sure th there's more words that are spelled incorrectly. See, for instance, right here.

Jack: Uh, that's, uh, that's good.

Jennifer: Okay, and what about right here?

Jack: Um, that's, um... That's even better.

Jennifer: And what about -- what about -- what about this?

Jack: Uh... That's, uh... I think that's perfect.

Jennifer: Perfect?

Jack: P-e-r...

Jennifer: F-e-c-t.

Jack: Perfect. That's... perfect.

Both: [Gasp]

Jack: And there is light. Ha ha. And there's our notes. And they're very good. I'm sure your professor will be very impressed.

Jennifer: Damn it, Jack!

Jack: What kind of language is that for an undergrad?

Jennifer: What is your problem? There was just something happening right here. Now admit it.

Jack: What are you talking about?

Jennifer: You're sweating. I'm sweating.

Jack: That's condensation. That happens when things heat up. I mean, when they -- when things break down, and they've broken down, but now they're back on again, and it's time for me to get to work.

Jennifer: It's time for us to get back to work. That's why you asked me to stay here -- because you needed me. That's why I stayed.

Jack: And, uh, you stayed, and we did what we set out to do. We've got our notes, so you're free to go.

Jennifer: All right, Jack, if that's what you want.

Jack: That's what I want 'cause I'm the boss...

Jennifer: 'Cause you're the boss...

Both: And the boss always gets what he wants.

Jennifer: You're the boss. Good night, Mr. Deveraux.

Jack: Good night, Miss H. Drive -- drive carefully, and, uh... don't do anything I wouldn't do. If you find that I don't help you, that I'm in any way a detractor, you can have complete charge of my future. How do you like the sound of that? Wouldn't it be more satisfying to fire me if I have actually done something to deserve it? Then you can hold my failure up for public ridicule and be satisfied that you have made the best decision in getting rid of me. So what do you say?

Roman: All right, Smith, I want you to backtrack to Linden and make a right. If she turned off her lights, drove off the road, there's only one place she can go.

Smith: 10-4.

Bo: Hey, hey. Don't worry. We'll find them.

Hope: How many times did we say we'll never lose J.T., that we'd never let it happen? And it did happen. Oh, Bo. Isaac doesn't even know that I'm his mother. What if he never knows that?

Smith: Hold on, hold on. There she is.

Hope: Did you find her?

Roman: Pull her over now.

Smith: Okay, I've got my lights on. All right, she's slowing down. She's moving over to the shoulder now.

Abe: Look, before you approach that vehicle, she may be armed.

Roman: Backup's on the way.

Smith: I'll take every precaution, sir -- 10-4.

Hope: Oh, please, God, keep my baby safe. Get him from Lexie and bring him back to us.

Smith: Okay, step out of the car.

Bart: Hi, handsome. What's going on?

Smith: It's not her. It's a decoy. Some guy in drag, driving a car identical to Mrs. Carver's. And also, there's a baby seat with a doll in the back.

Abe: Get me an I.D.

Smith: About 6'1", 195 pounds --

Roman: Bring him in.

Smith: 10-4.

Abe: Jones! Jones!

Jones: Yes, sir.

Abe: I want you to put out an APB on my wife Alexandra Carver.

Jones: Right away.

Bo: Okay, we got the airport, the bus terminal, the train station covered, right?

Roman: Affirmative.

Bo: What about the riverfront?

Lexie: Oh. It's okay, sweetheart. You're okay. Mommy's here. Oh.

Lexie: What was that?

Rolf: Your father had that hiding spot built for occasions such as these.

Lexie: My Father really did.

Rolf: Yes, your father really did take care of you today, Alexandra -- again, you and Isaac. And he will continue to do so for the rest of your lives.

Lexie: Now what?

Rolf: You are in the tunnel, yes? The boulder closed up behind you?

Lexie: Yeah, but what am I supposed to do now, just sit here all night?

Rolf: Your police escort is currently chasing Bart all over Salem. Now, listen and listen well. You must do exactly what I say. It's the only way to make sure that you and your son can get out of Salem for good.

[Knock on door]

Sami: Ahem.

Lucas: Uh, Will. What do you got, buddy? Why don't you show it to Daddy?

Sami: Yeah, Will. Why don't you play the tape for Dad?

[Light rock music playing]

Kate: [Groans] No.

Sami: Oh, yes. I win, you lose. Well, Will, I don't think this is exactly music to Daddy and Grandma's ears. Maybe we should just go home and listen to it by ourselves. Here you go.

Kate: Oh, God!

Jack: Well?

Jennifer: All right. You're hired.

Jack: Yes! Yes, yes, yes. Yes, yes, yes. Yes! Ha ha ha!

Vern: It's going to be like old times again.

Jennifer: Have you ever been a peon, Jack? You know what? I have, and I am here to tell you, there is nothing exciting about it, so if you're looking for glory, you're not going to find it here.

Jack: It's not about the glory, only the greater good.

Jennifer: Oh, and how much greater good do you think you, Jack Deveraux, will be effecting?

Jack: Well...

Jennifer: I like this. I have never had the opportunity to boss you around like this.

Jack: Oh, no? Oh, no.

Jennifer: Yeah. I could enjoy this.

Jack: I told you.

Jennifer: Tip one -- never take credit for an idea. That always goes to the boss. You taught me that.

Jack: Yeah.

Jennifer: Yes. So are you ready for your first assignment?

Jack: You bet. No, no, wait, wait, no. I bet I know what it is. I've been following that series on corruption at city hall. Weak at best.

Jennifer: Yes, I agree.

Jack: Now, question -- how can we strengthen it? Follow me here. How about if we have somebody follow a bill from its very beginning --

Jennifer: Oh, great minds, Jack.

Jack: I told you. I-I mean, you told me.

Jennifer: Look at this.

Jack: Uh-huh. Ha ha. Um, may I ask a question?

Jennifer: Certainly.

Jack: Ha ha ha. Did you, uh, perhaps inadvertently give me the wrong sheet?

Jennifer: No. Now, what is wrong? Do you think the people in Salem are uninterested in pooper-scooper laws? I am here to tell you that 1 in 3 households owns a dog, many of them paper-trained on our own "Spectator." So this may not be a glamorous assignment, but it will be read and recycled.

Jack: Pooper-scooper.

Jennifer: Problem?

Jack: No. No, no. None at all.

Jennifer: Good. 'Cause you said that you could sniff out a story, so here's your chance. Why don't we just see if you really do have a nose for news?

Roman: All right, I want a detail at Linden and Dorsey, where Lexie shook the tail.

Bo: Where's Hope? All right, hell. I bet she went after them herself.

Abe: No.

Bo: Yeah, of course she did, because we're letting Lexie get away. If anything happens to Hope, Abe...

Lexie: Come on, Rolf. Some great plan. I've gotten to the pier, but where's your boat? We've got to get to that landing pad and get out of here. [Gasps]

Hope: You're not going anywhere. Isaac.

Lexie: No.

Hope: Give me my son, Lexie.
