Days of Our Lives Transcript Tuesday 7/17/01--Canada; Wednesday 7/18/01--USA
Victor: Kate thinks she can use Philip as a pawn to milk me for guilt money. Well, she's in for quite a surprise at that diner today. She's going to get an order she didn't expect.
Philip: [Thinking] I really need your help, mom -- now more than ever.
Kate: Oh, great -- Colombo's here again.
Faye: Hello there, gentlemen.
Faye: I was hoping you'd come in today. Got your favorite blue plate special.
Abe: Chicken-fried steak, mm?
Faye: That's the one.
Roman: Told you it was my lucky day. I should have bought a lottery ticket.
Roman: Whoa. That's the station. Better call them and guess what -- left my phone out in the car. Uh, do me a favor, Faye -- put my name on one of those specials. Thank you.
Faye: You got it.
Roman: Abe I was wondering what happened to you. You haven't been in in a while.
Abe: Yeah, you know, you get busy. You know, actually, I've been trying to spend time with Isaac. Taking him for a walk or over to the park for a stroll.
Faye: Abe... Are you okay?
Abe: Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.
Faye: No, you're not. You're not fine at all. [Song ends]
Brandon: What's that smile for?
Lexie: Just that it means so much to me to be able to confide in someone -- in -- in you.
Brandon: I'll always be here for you, Lex.
Lexie: Brandon, not many people would understand.
Brandon: Meaning Abe?
Lexie: Hope may have given birth to Isaac, but he's my son. I've been his mom an entire year, Brandon. I have loved him with all my heart.
Brandon: But Abe wouldn't care about that. He'd have to do the right thing, wouldn't he?
Lexie: No. No, he can't. He won't, because he'll never know. No one else will ever know the truth.
Glen: Barb, what were you going to tell me? Is it about the baby?
Shawn-D: All righty. Hey, come here. Look at me. Look at me. All right. Does that feel better, buddy? Does that feel better? All right. All right.
Shawn-D: What the... Oh, J.T.
Belle: Chloe, that tape -- it was so amazing. What Philip said, how he said it -- you can't possibly doubt his love for you after that. If you ever had feelings for Philip, you would take him back. Please don't let this be the end of you guys.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.
Philip: Hey, mom.
Philip: I, uh... Need to talk to you, if you're not too busy flipping burgers.
Kate: Well, if you're going to be snide, I am busy.
Philip: I -- I'm sorry. I just -- I need to talk to you.
Kate: Okay. Okay, just give me a minute. I'm going to take a break, and before you say anything, my tables are all served.
Burke: All right, but make it fast. I am not running a waitress country club.
Philip: Like I said, I need to talk to you, mom. I screwed up really bad.
Kate: And I thought you were here just to berate me for my fashion faux pas at the dance last night.
Philip: No, no, not at all. Your dress almost falling off was nothing compared to what happened after you left. It was so bad, and I made it even worse.
Faye: You're living in the DiMera mansion? Not that Mr.. DiMera wasn't always very nice when he was in here, but from what I read about him in the paper, he sounds like a madman.
Abe: Ha ha. Well, he is.
Faye: Well, then, why on earth does your wife want to live in his house?
Abe: It's very complicated, and it's very upsetting to me, which, obviously, you can tell.
Faye: Well, Abe, if she knows it, why would she force you to do it? Abe... Are you and
Lexie not getting along?
Brandon: No one will find out the truth about Isaac, certainly not from me. You know that.
Lexie: It's ironic, isn't it? For a while, I was afraid of you. Well, threatened. You were intent on destroying Abe. But now it's just the opposite. Brandon, I totally trust you. I know that you would do anything to help me keep my baby.
Brandon: You know, what's really ironic is that you trust me -- a friend -- more than you do your own husband. How can you live like that, Lex? Married to someone who isn't on your side, who doesn't want the same things you do. How can that work for you?
Lexie: It works because I love him. Abe's a wonderful man. He's honest, kind, decent --
Brandon: Decent? Bite your tongue, Brandon.
Lexie: Brandon, um... Look, I -- okay, I know that your mom had a relationship with Abe, but it was a long time ago, and they were adults. You know, Abe wasn't married at the time, and your mom was lonely, and she needed someone, and your dad was away in prison at the time, right?
Brandon: How did you know that? How did you know my dad was in prison?
Man: No smoking in here. Did you just get back to Salem?
Man #2: Last week.
Man: You were supposed to check in with me immediately. You're off to a rousing start,
pal. You know, they said you were trouble. Maybe I should save us both some time and just send you back to jail right now.
Belle: Chloe, I admit just a few minutes ago, I was furious at Philip. But after I saw his apology, what he said was so beautiful -- he totally changed my mind.
Chloe: Belle, when it mattered the most, Philip wasn't there for me. My God, he thought I put nude shots of myself on the internet, which proves one very sad thing -- Philip doesn't really know who I am, and if he doesn't know me, how could he possibly love me?
Belle: But it takes a really long time to get to know someone, right? I saw Philip's eyes on that tape. He does love you, Chloe. Don't throw that love away.
Chloe: I didn't throw it away. He did.
Shawn-D: [Coughing] "Did it get you dizzy, desi?" What the hell? That must have been why it was off-balance. There must have been some sort of liquid chemical in here, so when the air got in, it turned to smoke. Yeah, I-I got to see you right away, okay? It's an emergency. All right.
Belle: Oh, my gosh, Shawn, are you okay? You were totally freaking out on the phone.
Shawn-D: I am. You're not going to believe what I'm about to tell you. It's about the can.
Belle: That was this whole emergency? Let me guess. More little worm feet sprouted out, and this time it started doing the cha-cha.
Shawn-D: I'm serious, okay? I was changing J.T.'s diaper. I reach behind me to grab some wipes, and I accidentally knock the can to the floor, and this blue smoke started gushing out.
Belle: Blue smoke... And then the genie popped out, and he started singing and dancing. Or was he really a she?
Shawn-D: Fine. Okay. Maybe this will convince you. He or she --
Chloe: "Did it get you dizzy, desi?" What?
Belle: Is this
Shawn-D: I found this one inside this one. I'm serious. Look, I want to get to the bottom of this. Chloe, can you get a can opener?
Belle: No, no, no, wait. You are not going to open that, are you?
Shawn-D: That's the idea.
Belle: Shawn, do you absolutely swear to me that you are being honest about this whole thing? I mean, about the blue smoke and everything?
Shawn-D: Belle, I swear to you, okay? I didn't want J.T. to breathe it, so I had to run him out of the room.
Belle: In that case, I think you should take that can to your dad at the police station.
Shawn-D: No way. I am not going to get the cops involved. This is fate. A decayed corpse that we found in the canal behind my house -- it wanted me to find this. Look -- it's my destiny to figure out what this means.
Belle: Here we go, merchant marine. Ship's ahoy.
Shawn-D: Okay, I think there's a message inside here, and I think it's from another time.
[Knock on door]
Chloe: Excuse me, guys.
Shayna: Hi, I'm looking for Chloe Lane.
Chloe: I'm Chloe Lane.
Shayna: Ah, Shayna Larson, Assistant D.A.
Chloe: Oh, come in. It's nice to meet you.
Shayna: It's nice to finally put a face to the voice on the phone. How are you doing? Well, you've been through quite an ordeal. Chloe, Iíve spoken to your mother, and she's leaving the final decision in this matter up to you. Jan and Mimi want to plea-bargain, hoping of course that way the judge will be more lenient in their punishment. Your opinion will weigh heavily in the judge's verdict. Do you want to strike a deal?
Philip: It was a nightmare, mom. Hey, Captain Brady.
Philip: Anyway, it was a nightmare. Chloe was a total innocent victim, you know? Which I should have known immediately. I should have had some faith in her, but I didn't. I said some terrible things. What am I going to do?
Kate: Honey, I am so sorry.
Philip: I've missed you so much, mom. I know I'm this 17-year-old kid who's supposed to be all independent and stuff, but, you know, sometimes I feel like it would be good to have you around more. I mean, living in the same house.
Kate: Oh, sweetie, I am always going to be here for you. You know that. But as for living at home, you have to accept the fact that it's all over between your father and me.
Philip: Okay, so you're not married to dad, but that doesn't mean you have to keep living like this, working here. And it's not just my reputation I'm talking about, mom. I hate seeing you work here, working your fingers to the bone. I hate that jerk that you have to beg to get a five-minute break with your son. I mean, what's that about?
Kate: I know that Iíve told you before. I agreed to take nothing from your father. I said I was going to start all over again from scratch. That's what I'm doing. I'm not going to pretend that it's easy, because it's not. You know, thank goodness Faye Walker -- well, she gave me a bed in her spare room. I mean, you know her, right? She's the blonde waitress.
Philip: Wait, wait, wait, you're staying in a waitress' spare bed? That is ridiculous. You cannot live like this, mom.
Kate: Honey, really, I appreciate your concern, but I have to work this out. I have to work it out. I have some pride, you know.
Philip: Having pride doesn't mean you can't have a home. Look, I know if dad saw what you were going through, he'd help you.
Kate: Your father knows exactly what I'm going through. I can't ask him for anything, all right? I won't.
Philip: Well, if you won't, I will. I can't have you living like this, mom.
Faye: Is that it, Abe? Are you and Lexie not getting along?
Abe: You know, I thought things were settled down after that paternity test came back negative. Glen and Barb left town. We're in no danger of losing Isaac. Lexie -- she seems so -- I don't know, I don't know -- haunted, I guess. I don't -- I don't know why.
Barb: The baby -- well --
Glen: You said you had a feeling you were pregnant. You really think you are?
Barb: Well, yeah, but it's just 'cause I want it so much, but it'll be a while before we know for sure.
Glen: In that case, I think we should keep on trying.
Glen: Oh, baby, you're the best. You always make me feel so good about myself.
Barb: I'm glad. So, did Marlo make you feel good?
Glen: Oh, Barb.
Barb: No, it's just that I can't help wondering what it was about Marlo that made you want to be with her.
Glen: Well, Marlo was wild, you know? It was exciting at first, but... Then I find out what a sad case she really was -- I mean, the booze, the drugs -- I guess I thought I could save her or something. I wish I could have.
Barb: Yeah, well, someone like that has to want to be saved. But even though we know it's not true, let's say you did have a baby with Marlo. Would it really be that important for you to raise the kid?
Lexie: Sorry, I had to check on Isaac.
Brandon: You didn't answer my question, Lexie.
Lexie: Brandon, I didn't know for sure that your father was in prison at that time. I just assumed -- why are you so angry after all these years? If your mom was involved with Abe, it's because they connected at that time, Brandon. These things happen. I mean, considering what your father put her through, I don't see how you can blame her for turning to Abe. He's loving, he's caring --
Brandon: Oh, yeah, Abe Carver's perfect, above reproach -- he can just use my mother, walk out, and never turn back.
Lexie: Whoa. What are you trying to say, Brandon? Is there more to this story than you're telling me?
Brandon: All I'm saying is that Abe just took advantage of my mother and then cut out on her. He should have just left her alone.
Lexie: Look, Brandon, Abe would never deliberately hurt anyone, and regardless of that, their relationship is ancient history. Why can't you just let it go?
Brandon: Let's just say there are things about me that you don't know.
Lexie: Tell me. Hey, hey. Come on. You know all my secrets. Why can't you tell me yours? [Bell dings]
Roman: Looks like your son put you in a good mood, Kate.
Kate: Let's just say things are looking up.
Roman: Really? Why do I get the feeling that somebody else ought to be looking out?
Victor: The Hudson Street Diner, yes. Do you know the owner? Good. I need a favor. Kate Roberts works there. I want her fired today. Donít ask questions. Just do it.
[Knock on door]
Victor: Come in.
Philip: Hey, dad, is this an okay time?
Victor: Yeah, Iíve got a few minutes. Sit down.
Philip: I needed to talk to you. I was wrong about Chloe.
Philip: Yeah. Turns out Jan and Mimi set her up. She didn't have anything to do with the web site or the picture, and I broke her heart because I didn't believe in her. I acted like a complete jerk.
Victor: I'm sorry, son. You know, Chloe doesn't strike me as the type to forgive and forget. Maybe you'd best just cut your losses and move on.
Philip: Dad, I pray that she'll forgive me, at least someday. I mean, God knows I'd do anything to make it up to her, but you're right. You're right about moving on, for now, anyway.
Victor: Well, I'm glad to hear that, son.
Philip: Yeah. Yeah, I'm thinking it's going to be a good idea to do that school environmental trip. Chloe's not going to be there. I mean, she's got other plans to make money for college. I just can't stand the thought of, you know, being here in Salem knowing she's so close, since she probably won't even be talking to me anyway. Yeah. I need to -- I need to get away from her for a while.
Chloe: No, absolutely not. No bargains. I want Jan and Mimi in prison immediately if not sooner.
Belle: Mimi -- prison? No, Chloe, you can't let that happen.
Chloe: Why not? She and Jan are guilty. They deserve it.
Shayna: Look, can we sit somewhere and talk?
Chloe: Yeah, the living room's fine. But can my friends stay? They know the hell that Jan and Mimi put me through. I really want them to hear this.
Shayna: Sure, no problem.
Shayna: Chloe, you won't get any argument from me that what Jan and Mimi did was criminal. I believe they deserve to be punished to the full extent of the law, but they are minors, and this was their first offense, and the judge will take those factors into consideration.
Chloe: Okay. Well, tell me one thing. What is the maximum sentence that they can get?
Shayna: Conspiracy to distribute and sell pictures of nude kids over the internet could bring a sentence of up to 15 years.
Belle: 15 years? But you just said that they're minors, kids. Look, I know what they did was wrong, and they should definitely be punished, but 15 years is like a whole lifetime. Chloe, you can't send Mimi to prison. Please don't do that to her.
Victor: I'm glad you're being so mature about this, son. Putting some distance between you and Chloe is an excellent idea, and I like the sound of this environmental trip -- educational, and it should be interesting for you, and it certainly won't look bad on your rťsumť.
Philip: I'm glad you approve, dad, but I'm not going to do it unless you do something for me.
Victor: Oh? What's that?
Philip: I want you to take care of mom financially. I want her to have a decent place to live and money to live on, and I want her out of that diner now.
Kate: Are you obsessed with me, Officer Brady? Because you seem awfully concerned about every move I make.
Roman: Well, first of all, it's Captain Brady. I haven't walked the beat in a long time.
Kate: [Gasps] Oh, I'm so sorry, Captain Brady, but you see, I'm just a working class waitress, and we don't have titles, unless, of course, you consider "hey, you, where's my burger?" A title. And speaking of burgers, you're really going to have to excuse me, because I have tables to serve.
Roman: Whoa. Hold on. Hold on a minute.
Kate: Would you give it a break? There is no mystery here, okay? Look at me. No mystery. I'm just a woman trying to make it on her own. And you want to know why? Because I've had it up to here with men who toss you aside after they've gotten everything they wanted, okay? Life is tough, and so am I, and I don't have to stand here listening to your suspicions about everything I do or say.
Roman: Whoa, Kate. We're not done yet.
Abe: You know, it means a lot to me, Faye, that we can still talk about our problems, and I want you to know that if you need me, I'm here for you. I know with Paul getting out of prison, you must be concerned.
Faye: Yeah, well, as you know, Paul's a very angry man, and I'm sure that all the years in prison made him even angrier, and, well, i suspect that when he gets out he's going to focus a lot of his rage on... You and me.
Man: You got a rap sheet as long as the state penal code.
Paul: I did my time, sir. I'm rehabilitated.
Man: Uh-huh. You got a place to stay?
Paul: Not yet, sir.
Man: I doubt your wife will take you back in, given your history. I see she's using her maiden name again -- Walker. Your kids, too.
Paul: I'm looking forward to seeing my family.
Man: I'm warning you, Mendez, keep your nose clean.
Paul: I'm starting my life over, sir. And believe me, this time I'm going to do things right.
Brandon: My mother suffered a lot because she was involved with Abe.
Lexie: Oh, wait a minute. You mean your father made her suffer. Are you saying that he knew about them?
Brandon: He knew everything. But Abe didn't care. He just walked away.
Lexie: Brandon, you were pretty young at the time. How can you be so sure that that's what happened?
Brandon: I know. I was there.
Lexie: Oh, God. Your father knew. Well, did he --
Brandon: He did plenty.
Lexie: He beat up on your mom? He took it out on her?
Brandon: He beat everybody. He was an equal opportunity bastard.
Lexie: Wait a second. Are you saying that he beat up on everyone in your family, even Nicole?
Brandon: He never beat Nicole. He just... He just made her do things.
Lexie: What kind of things?
Brandon: It doesn't matter, all right? It --
Lexie: Brandon, look, we're supposed to be friends. Friends share their secrets. They tell each other the truth, and they share everything.
Brandon: Well, then let me ask you something, Lexie.
Brandon: Are you my friend because I know about Hope's baby, or do you really care about me?
Barb: No, I really want you to think about this. I mean, in your heart, in your gut, would you really want Marlo's kid?
Glen: I know Marlo was a screw-up, that the baby might be sick and all. But if I knew he was out there, there's no way I could turn my back on him. You know, when we first found Bo and Hope's baby by the river, God, I was so convinced he was my son.
Barb: But then...
Glen: I figure if he really had been mine, there'd be no way I could have given him up, so I guess he wasn't. Why are you asking me all this stuff anyway, huh, Barb? What's on your mind?
Brandon: Am I here just to keep your secret about the baby, or do you really care about me as a friend?
Lexie: Brandon, of course I care about you.
Brandon: Okay... Then as your friend, I need you to do something for me.
Lexie: Anything. Just tell me.
Brandon: I need for you to believe me about my childhood. I lived through it. I know what Abe Carver did to my family.
Lexie: Brandon, don't --
Brandon: Look, Lexie, I know you don't want to hear this, but you don't know your husband like I do. Trust me when I tell you this. He is not the man you think he is.
Lexie: Look, Brandon, I don't like this, okay?
Brandon: I am telling you the truth, Lexie. The real Abe Carver -- he's ruthless. He uses people to get what he wants. He fakes being sensitive and caring. But he is none of those things. What he is poison.
Abe: You know, I know you're concerned about Paul, Faye, but if he threatens you or tries to hurt you in any way, you call me, and I'll be there.
Faye: Abe, I can't ask you to protect me anymore.
Abe: Hey, I'm a police officer. It's my job.
Faye: Don't you see that that's the way that we -- that's how it started before? And I don't think we should go there again, do you?
Burke: Yeah, Kate Roberts works here. Who wants to know? Oh.
Victor: Did your mother put you up to this, Philip?
Philip: No. No, in fact, she'd probably kill me if she knew I was asking.
Victor: Very clever, Kate.
Philip: Excuse me?
Victor: Nothing. All right, you've got a deal, Philip. I'll help your mother if you promise me you'll stay away from Chloe.
Belle: Chloe, I will never feel the same way about Mimi again after what she did to you. In fact, I can't imagine ever being her friend again. But that doesn't mean that I want her to go to prison.
Chloe: Uh, Jan and Mimi are not babies. They're almost adults, and they committed an adult crime. They have to be punished.
Shawn-D: Nobody's saying that they shouldn't be, but maybe you should just listen to what the other side is offering.
Shayna: Well, part of the settlement would include all of the money made from the illegal web site. Right now that's over $27,000.
Chloe: $27,000? My God, how many people logged on to see pictures of me?
Shayna: Quite a few, I'm afraid. But what they saw was just a teaser, so to speak. They never got to see your face.
Chloe: Thank God.
Belle: That's great, Chloe. That means no one will know it was you on the web site.
Shawn-D: That's right. Nobody can identify you.
Chloe: Yeah, except the entire population of Salem High. They can identify every inch of me thanks to Jan and Mimi. I can't believe they made money off of it. It is sick. It disgusts me.
Shayna: Clearly they were engaged in premeditated fraud. It's a very serious charge.
Chloe: You know, if they don't go to prison, I want them to suffer the same humiliation that they caused me. Wait, no, I take it back. I want them to be humiliated 10 times worse.
Chloe: This is not just about vengeance. I want to use Jan and Mimi as examples to teach all the kids at Salem High a lesson. Far too many of them get away with too much stuff every day, and I just want to send a message that they can't blithely abuse me or anyone else and get away with it. Their behavior is reprehensible, and it's got to stop.
Belle: You're right, Chloe. It's not just Jan and Mimi. A lot of kids are cruel to other kids because they don't have the right haircut or wear the right dress size. I don't get why.
Chloe: Well, maybe what happened to me, something good can come out of it. Maybe we can help change things.
Shayna: Well, if that's the way you really feel, Chloe, then I do have a proposal to recommend, one I think you'll find very interesting.
Philip: So, it's settled then. I'll go away on the school trip this summer and stay away from Chloe if you make sure mom has a nice place to live and another job -- a better job.
Victor: I'll take care of your mother's employment and housing, but she is not coming back to Titan.
Philip: Okay, whatever, just as long as she's not flipping burgers in that greasy spoon anymore. Hey, thanks, dad. It means a lot to me. I got to get going, though, okay? I'll catch you later. Take care.
Kate: Hudson Street Diner. May I help you?
Victor: Apparently I'm the one that's going to be helping you.
Kate: Ahh. Hello, Victor.
Victor: Congratulations, Kate. You won this round.
Kate: Ah, you sound so disgruntled.
Victor: I've spoken to Philip about you.
Kate: That's very nice to know that you've been thinking about me. Good thoughts, I hope.
Victor: Just can it, Kate. Be in my office at 5:00 so we can work out the terms.
Kate: I'll clear my schedule.
Burke: Listen up, Kate. I got some bad news.
Abe: Here, let me help you with that.
Faye: Thanks. I'm so sorry you've been under so much stress lately. I hope at least Brandon is not giving you a hard time.
Abe: No, he hasn't.
Faye: I wish he would just get over his anger at you. I mean, all you did was help me through a bad time, and I keep explaining that to him.
Abe: Is that all I did, Faye -- help you through a bad time?
Faye: No. Of course not. You know that.
Abe: Then why'd you push me away? Why'd you end it between us?
Glen: What are you trying to tell me, Barb?
Barb: Just that love is all a child needs, whether he's raised by his biological parents or not. Oh, I really do hope I'm pregnant. I know you're going to be a great dad, 'cause you're already a fantastic husband... In every, every way.
Glen: Let's make sure our son's here soon.
Barb: Okay. I just got to do something first, okay?
Glen: What's that?
Glen: What is it that you have to do?
Barb: I just, um... I just want to slip into something sexy for you. I was thinking that little leopard print number that you like.
Barb: I'll just get it out of the dryer.
Barb: And you go put on that cologne that drives me wild, and we can have a real party. All right?
Glen: I like the way you think.
Lexie: Brandon, I realize how rough it was for you back then, but you have to understand something. Abe is my husband, and I love him very much, and I don't want to hear you badmouth him.
Brandon: I'm just telling the truth. And as much as you defend him, there's got to be a part of you that wonders why you can't trust him. Your own husband.
Barb: We don't need Marlo's baby, Glennie. We'll make one of our own.
Faye: I'm... So sorry if I hurt you, Abe. It's the last thing I ever wanted to do.
Abe: Yeah. I just never understood.
Faye: Well, it turns out I did the right thing, didn't I?
Abe: I guess... I guess we'll never know.
Faye: Your, um... Your coffee's getting cold. Excuse me.
Burke: Look, I hate to do this, but I'm going to have to fire you.
Kate: What? What, are you kidding? I'm the best damn waitress you have in this lousy joint. What the hell's going on?
Burke: Look, I'm sorry, okay?
Kate: No, no, it's not okay. I demand an explanation.
Burke: All right, let's just say I had no choice in the matter, so take your things
Faye: Oh, mo.
Victor: Kate is in for a rude awakening, and Philip is just going to have to live with it.
Philip: Of course, you didn't call, Chloe. What was I expecting? Man, how am I going to get through the entire summer without seeing you at all?
Belle: You know, Shawn, when this is all over, Chloe's really going to need a break, so I was thinking maybe we could convince her to go on that school trip with us.
Shawn-D: That's a great idea. We'll all be together away from Salem. It will give her, you know, a chance to get her mind off everything.
Shayna: Thanks again, Chloe. I think that settles it. Short of jail time, this is a very severe punishment. I'll speak with the judge.
Chloe: Great. Thank you so much. Nice meeting you.
Shayna: Thanks again. Bye.
Belle: So, come on, Chloe, tell us what you are going to do about Jan and Mimi?
