Abe: Okay. Well, you know what? If mama can't come to your first birthday party, we're going to take the birthday party to mama. How does that sound? Yeah. You know, those nurses -- they're so crazy about you. You are going to have a great time. Okay, we'll put this in the car and then we'll come back and we'll get the diaper bag, all right? All right, here we go.
Lexie: Oh. Isaac! Oh, sweetheart, Mommy missed you so much.
Stefano: [Sighs] I certainly do not need this, not on top of everything else.
Stefano: Well, ahem, did you take care of Hattie Adams?
[Knock on door]
Hattie: Well, Roman, I guess it's better late than never.
Man: Hi. Coffee and croissants for two.
Hattie: Over here.
Hattie: Have you heard from Roman Brady this morning?
Man #2: Sorry.
Man: Just give me a call when you're done with it, huh?
Hattie: Thank you.
Hattie: So this is about as nice as Iíve ever had it in my whole life. It's no fun without Roman Brady here. [Knock on door]
Hattie: Oh, Roman. Just a minute.
Roman: Let's get that TV turned on, okay?
Hattie: And a cheery good morning to you, too.
Abby: I just wish I could say goodbye to mommy.
Jack: I told you, Madam Cucaracha, she is still sleeping.
Abby: She always sleeps. Is she sick?
Jack: No. No, Abigail. She's fine.
Abby: You said that the car accident didn't hurt her. Are you sure?
Jennifer: Honey? I'm fine, baby. I-I'm just fine.
Bo: Yeah, as soon as you have any news at all. Thanks. [Hangs up cell phone ]
Hope: Oh, God, Bo, I was so scared that J.T. wouldn't make it through his first birthday.
Bo: Well, he did 'cause he's tough. We're going to go out there and find him, bring him home, so he can open all these presents.
Hope: It's almost time, isn't it?
Bo: Oh, yeah, yeah.
Man on TV: And, of course, our top story of the day is the kidnapping of 1-year-old John Thomas Brady.
Barb: Damn. Still no messages. Fine, Glen, don't tell me where you are. I like driving cotton swabs to a lab and maxing out my credit card to pay for it. Boy, Glen, you sure know how to make a woman feel great.
Woman on TV: The Salem Police Department is asking for your help in a nationwide search for this missing 1-year-old baby.
Woman: Oh, no. [Knock on door]
Woman: Glenny boy, what in all tarnation have you done?
Jennifer: Oh, hi, baby, hi. Hi.
Abby: I'm so glad you got up before I had to go to school.
Jennifer: What? It's time for school already?
Jack: [Sighs] Tempest fugit, we got to hit the road.
Jennifer: Wait a minute. Right now?
Jack: [Sighs] hey, Mrs. Calabash, I think I forgot to put your juice in your
backpack. Think you could check the refrigerator, see if it's in there?
Abby: Sure, daddy.
Jack: Okay. Jennifer, are you going to be okay alone?
Woman on TV: We would like you to take a good look at this picture. The baby is believed to have been kidnapped from Salem, and the Salem police are asking for everyone's help to bring him safely home to his parents.
Man on TV: As you can...
Barb: What am I going to do? I'm going to prison. I don't even know where the hell Glen is.
Man on TV: Please note the number at the bottom of your screen. It's for a confidential 24-hour-a-day hotline.
Barb: I can't hear this. I canít. It's not happening. It's just not happening. [Knock on door]
Woman: I can't scarcely believe my eyes. Did you go off and have yourself a baby, and not even let me know? Come on in here and let me have a look at that child.
Glen: It's good to see you, Aunt Elsie.
Elsie: Be careful of that hot iron. Just doing my chores, trying to watch a little TV, but that danged antenna just went out again. [Sighs] well, I never thought that knock at the door would be my favorite nephew and a new little boy. Now how old is he?
Glen: He's about a year.
Elsie: You've had a son for a whole year, and just now you're bringing him to see me?
Glen: Um, no, Aunt Elsie, not exactly.
Woman on TV: And so authorities believe the baby miraculously survived the fall from the bridge only to be kidnapped.
Man on TV: The police have eyewitness accounts of a couple finding the baby along the riverbank and putting him into their car. Now, since the child has not been taken to a hospital or turned over to authorities, police are treating this as a kidnapping case.
Woman on TV: There's another bizarre twist in the case. There could be some confusion about the identity of the little boy John Thomas Brady, since he was in a car seat personalized with another child's name -- Isaac.
Man on TV: Up next, a message from police detective Bo Brady and his wife Hope, the parents of this missing child.
Bo: You okay?
Hope: This has to work. It has to work, Bo.
Bo: Yeah, I know. It will. We'll get our boy back.
Rolf: Hattie is still alive.
Stefano: I don't think -- ahem -- I said anything about her being alive or dead. All I asked was that you would correct a small problem for me. Am I to understand that this problem has not been solved?
Rolf: Look, I am sorry, but I'm afraid --
Stefano: Afraid of what? Uhh!
Stefano: I pray, for your sake, that you have not come to me with more bad news.
Rolf: Well, actually, it's a bigger problem than we originally thought.
Roman: Hattie... Look, I really am sorry. I think I was being rude and, uh, you certainly don't deserve that.
Hattie: You don't have to apologize to me, Roman. "Brady" -- is that little boy related to you?
Roman: My nephew -- my kid brother's son. Today is his first birthday.
Hattie: Oh, oh. I'll pray for them, but if anybody can find that child, it's you,
Roman, 'cause you're a wonderful policeman.
Roman: Yeah, well, right now, I'm a very frustrated policeman. You see, there's nothing that a cop hates worse than a missing child, and then when it's your own nephew, it...
Hattie: How could anybody just steal a child from their parents? That is -- that is so horrible. I wish there was something I could do.
Roman: There is. Listen to me, Hattie. There is something you can do. You just asked me what kind of person would do something like that. Well, we think we know who's behind the kidnapping.
Hattie: Those people -- that couple.
Roman: Yeah, we think they took the baby, but we're also pretty sure that Stefano DiMera is calling the shots.
Abe: Sweetheart, what are you doing out of the hospital?
Lexie: Well, what do you think? I wasn't going to miss the most important birthday in the whole wide world.
Abe: Well, we were just on our way to the hospital.
Lexie: Oh, well, that's no place to party. I got released this morning. I took a cab home. Hi, sweetheart.
Abe: Why? We would have picked you up.
Lexie: Well, I couldn't wait. I couldn't wait to see my precious little 1-year-old baby. Ooh. Ow.
Abe: Oh, hey, look, why don't you go up and go to bed, huh?
Lexie: No, uh...
Abe: All right, I'll make up the couch for you.
Lexie: No, uh, I have to go.
Abe: You just got out of the hospital.
Lexie: I-I have to see Hope. I can only imagine how awful this day is for her.
Abe: Well, Hope knows you've been in the hospital. She'll understand.
Lexie: Abe, look, I am not going to stand here and argue with you. I don't have the strength, okay? Isaac, sweetheart, mommy's going to be back soon, okay?
Abe: Uh, sweetheart, you were just released from the hospital. You said you couldn't wait to get home for his birthday.
Lexie: I know, sweetie. I-I'll be right back, okay?
Abe: Wait a minute. I-I don't understand here. Wait, wait. I mean, you've been acting strange ever since you came to at the hospital.
Lexie: For God's sake, Abe, I was in an explosion. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Look, uh, would you just stop being a detective, please, and just be my husband? Don't interrogate me, not this morning, please, hmm?
Abe: I am your husband, and I'm sincerely concerned about you, though.
Lexie: I know.
Abe: All right, all right, if it means that much to you.
Lexie: It does.
Abe: Then we'll go with you to Hope's, huh?
Lexie: Uhh! No! Damn it, Abe! Why can't you just leave this alone?
Hattie: You think Stefano had something to do with taking that baby?
Roman: Hattie, he does horrible, horrible things to people, but never directly. So we can't stop him because we never have what they call the smoking gun.
Hattie: That's me, isn't it?
Roman: You're as close as we've ever come to that. So what you saw -- your testimony -- could help keep Stefano from hurting a bunch of innocent people.
Hattie: And what do you think a man like that would do to get rid of a -- of a smoking gun? You've already told me. He'd stop at nothing.
Roman: But I already told you this -- you can trust me. Do you think Iím going to let anything happen to somebody who helps me nail the SOB who put my brother's family through this?
Hattie: I-Iím so scared, Roman.
Rolf: What are you doing here?
Hattie: I could ask you the same question.
Rolf: I am visiting, but you have no business here, and what are you doing in this ridiculous getup?
Hattie: I had a nightmare about that body. It seemed so real. I just know I wouldn't rest in peace until I got to the bottom of the whole thing.
Rolf: Hattie, if you don't forget about that body, you may be resting in peace sooner than you think. It would be unwise for you to talk about this supposedly dead body you saw, Hattie.
Hattie: Says who?
Rolf: In the interests of your continued good health, I would advise you to keep your mouth shut.
Hattie: I saw it with my own peepers, okay? It was in that house, dead and decomposing. I will never, ever, ever forget what I saw.
Rolf: Well, then there is only one way to make sure that you do forget.
Hattie: Aah. Ow.
Rolf: The body was a prop, a gag. The whole thing was a prank.
Hattie: Let go of me.
Hattie: Roman, if I open my mouth, and they find out --
Roman: Wait a minute. Whoa. Stop right there. Are you talking about Stefano and your doctor friend? Hattie, who is he? Tell me, please.
Stefano: Tell me what happened. Now.
Rolf: It's about Hattie. She's under police protection at the Salem Inn.
Rolf: Our sources tell me that Roman Brady will be interrogating her this morning.
Stefano: You idiot. You nitwit. [Doorbell rings]
Stefano: What fresh hell is this?
Woman: Oh, what a nice surprise.
Stefano: What are you doing out of the hospital? You should be home resting.
Lexie: How the hell can I rest at a time like this? Father, what are we going to do?
Stefano: We? I thought you made it perfectly clear yesterday that you did not want my help anymore.
Jack: You haven't answered my question.
Jennifer: Is there any word on J.T.?
Jack: No, no, but everyone's optimistic that someone picked him up and took him.
Jennifer: Well, I would really like to believe that's true, Jack, but until I see that baby in Hope's arms, I donít...
Jack: Okay, I'm going to call somebody and they're going to take Abigail to school.
Jennifer: No, no, Jack --
Jack: I do not want to leave you here alone. The two of us will stay home.
Jennifer: I'll be fine, okay? I want Abby to keep her routine. I don't want her to be scared.
Jack: Should I call the doctor?
Jennifer: No! No, I-I can't be sedated for the rest of my life. Look, I want you to take Abby to school, and I want you to make her laugh all the way there, just like you always do, okay?
Jack: I'm going to go, but I'll be right back.
Jennifer: No, I don't want you to come back. There's something that I need to take care of today, something that just can't wait.
Hope: It's starting again.
Woman on TV: And here is a taped appeal from the baby's parents Bo and Hope Brady of Salem.
Hope: I-I am asking for everyone's help in getting our son back, and I know that parents will especially understand what Iím about to say. Our son, uh, J.T.... is a special-needs child, and today is, um, is his first birthday. We've faced an awful lot of challenges together this year and he still needs medical attention to be healthy and happy. Every day there's, um, there's a lot of things that we do, and we love doing them, that help J.T. with his health problems, and...
Bo: All we want is our son back so that we can take care of him the way he needs to be taken care of. We're not going to press any charges, so you can leave him at any police station, fire station, a hospital. Nothing's going to happen to anyone involved.
Hope: He's just a little guy. He needs his mom. Please. Please help us.
Man: [Knocks on door] lady? Lady, you okay in there?
Barb: [Thinking] you have to answer. They heard you scream. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Say you didn't have anything to do with it. You've been back here for four days, and you didn't know Glen went back for the baby. And you could tell the truth -- you don't know where the hell he is. [Knock on door]
Man: You okay? I thought I heard you. I was pounding on the door.
Barb: Who -- who are you? What do you want?
Man: I'm with the Washington High School Wildcats Marching Band. We're selling magazines.
Barb: Oh, good Lord.
Man: Yeah, well, just wait till your kid wants a trip to band camp.
Barb: Ha ha. Oh, God. This isn't funny. Nothing's funny. That could have been the cops. Oh, Glen, where the hell are you?
Elsie: I just can't get over what a cute little angel he is.
Glen: Yeah, must be exhausted. He screamed all the way up here in the car.
Elsie: Well, let's let him sleep, and we'll have a nice talk 'cause I know you, and you just didn't drop by for a visit, now, did you? What's going on here? And remember, I'm going to know if you're lying.
Abby: All set, daddy.
Jack: Well, shall we hitch up the mules or shall we just ski over?
Abby: How about the car?
Jack: The car! Excellent idea. Capital idea. I'm going to drop Abby off, but I can come right back.
Jennifer: No, please, do what you're going to do. I'll be fine. Really, I will. And you, little one, you come over here. Give me a hug. I promise tomorrow I won't be such a slugabed. I'll even make you French toast. How's that?
Abby: Thank you.
Jack: You said you liked lumpy tasteless oatmeal.
Jack: So, you want to drive? Hmm?
Abby: Okay. [Door closes]
Jennifer: Okay, Jack. It's like I told you. Can't put this off.
Bo: You were good.
Hope: I don't like talking to strangers about him like there's something wrong with him.
Bo: Yeah, I know, I know, but you turned all those strangers into friends. I mean, if Glen didn't see this... He's got to go out for food, gas, medicine...
Hope: Might have seen it.
Bo: Someone'll recognize him.
Hope: Oh, my God, Bo. What if he gets sick? He fell in the river. He was cold. He was wet. They won't know what to watch for like we do.
Bo: Yeah, well, Glen thinks J.T. is his son. He'll take very good care of him. If he did see this, then he'll know that J.T.'s a special-needs child.
Hope: What if he's working for Stefano?
Bo: Same logic applies. We can say an awful lot of bad things about DiMera, but... I'm sure he'll take care of a baby.
Hope: I hope you're right. They're coming back.
Man on TV: Police report the suspects were seen driving a gray 4-door Sedan. Finally, a police sketch artist has just released these drawings of the couple, last known to be using the names Glen and Barb Reiber.
Barb: Oh, my God. They know who we are.
Glen: Well, I never could put one over on you, huh, Aunt Elsie? But, actually, this is a long and complicated story, so I don't think you would --
Elsie: Oh, and me so pressed for time. Spill.
Glen: Well, the short version is I just found out that that's my son, and there's some people out there that are trying to steal him away from me -- my own flesh and blood. Truth is Iím here because I need your help.
Abe: I know. You miss mommy, don't you?
Abe: And me -- I wonder what the hell she's up to?
Lexie: Okay, father, um... Maybe I said some things that you didn't like, but I'm going crazy. I mean, you've told me again and again, "this isn't about you. This isn't about me. It's about Isaac. He's the only one that matters." Father, please look at me. Please.
Lexie: I'm not here to fight or to lay blame. I-I need to find a way out of this terrible mess. You've always told me that you would do anything for me. Well, here's your chance. Please. Please, please, please help me keep my son. Please.
Hattie: I don't know if I can go through with this, Roman. I'm just so scared.
Roman: I understand that, Hattie, and I'm sorry, but I think J.T.'s probably pretty scared right now, too -- real scared...
Hattie: Oh, Roman.
Roman: And there's not a damn thing that he can do about it. He needs help, and you said yourself you'd do anything you could.
Hattie: You're making me feel so guilty.
Roman: Listen to me. I will do whatever it takes, Hattie, to make you tell me what you know. All right, I will protect you. I will keep you safe, but I'll also make you feel guilty if I have to, and I'll remind you what kind of person Stefano DiMera is and that there's an innocent baby out there who needs your courage right now, and I'll also tell you this -- that there's one thing that's been thwarting us all along, and that's the fact that I think he has sources everywhere. He seems to know what we're doing before we even do it every damn step of the way. So he probably knows that you and I are talking to each other right now. So, in essence, the die is cast because in his mind you have already told me everything. So you need my help, Hattie. You need my help and you need my protection, which means this -- you better make damn sure that we are friends when I leave here.
Hattie: You're threatening me.
Roman: I'm sorry about that, Hattie, but I told you this -- I will do whatever it takes to bring him down. Now you tell me the truth. You tell me all of it.
Stefano: Alexandra, look at this. It is on the front page of every newspaper in the country. It is on television, the radio, even the internet, for God's sake. And when those Neanderthals who took the baby hear the news, they are going to realize that they have the wrong child and they are going to bring him back.
Lexie: What if they get his D.N.A. tested and find out that he isn't the wrong child?
Stefano: You are only borrowing trouble, Alexandra.
Lexie: Borrowing trouble? Father, this is a catastrophe on every level. Look, I don't want your lectures on positive thinking, okay? I want to know what you're doing. Are you looking for Glen? Are you watching the D.N.A. Labs?
Stefano: We are trying.
Lexie: Trying?! Ohh!
Stefano: Yes, trying. It is difficult, Alexandra. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack. My feeling is that the odds are they will hear the news before J.T. is tested.
Lexie: I don't believe this. I mean, for months you've been telling me how powerful, how omnipotent you are. And now you're talking about odds and needles in haystacks. Father, you don't sound omnipotent. You sound like you're in over your head. Oh, dear God. Please deny it, father. Please.
Stefano: The fact is... [Sighs] I'm not sure what to do.
Hope: So now we wait. Again.
Bo: Want to come to the station with me?
Hope: No, there's something I have to do.
Bo: Okay, Iíll call, let them know Iím hanging with you.
Hope: No, no, no, I like knowing that you're there. I want the best cop I know on this case, Brady.
Bo: We're going to make it through this. We're going to find our boy and bring him home, celebrate his birthday with him, and...
Hope: And? Our wedding anniversary. Oh, Bo.
Bo: Happy anniversary. I love you.
Hope: Happy anniversary. I love you, too. Now go, get to work. It's going to be over soon. I can feel it.
Bo: Yes, it is.
Jennifer: Come on, you've gone over this in your head over and over again. Just -- just do it. Just...
Jennifer: Aah! Aah! Oh, God. Oh, God, let him be alive. Please let him be somewhere. But it doesn't matter. Even if they do find him, it's never going to be the same. It just isnít.
Hope: Why didn't you just stay in Africa or Ireland or wherever the hell you were and just stay away from me, stay away from my son?
Jennifer: Hope, I came here to tell you --
Hope: Nothing, because there is nothing you can say that is going to make any difference.
Jennifer: I would have traded places with him.
Hope: You don't mean that. You would never leave Abby without a mother, would you? Would you? No, you wouldn't. It's better to leave me without a son.
Jennifer: Please don't do this, Hope. It was an accident.
Hope: How could you not see that the bridge was out? How could you not see that? How fast were you going?
Jennifer: I wasnít. I wasn't going fast, Hope. It was dark and I slammed on the brakes and the car skidded out...
Hope: Why didn't you look back? Why didn't you see that he was about to fall?
Jennifer: I did, Hope! I did! I did.
Jennifer: But it can't get any worse, can it?
Jennifer: Face it, Jennifer. You can't go through that again. You know it. You can't do it. [Telephone rings] [ring]
Hope: Jennifer? It's me -- Hope.
Lexie: Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, God. It's over. You never admit defeat. If you say that you don't know what to do... How can you say that to me? You always know what to do, father. You promised. You told me that you would fix everything. You told me to trust you. Oh, my God. Even over Abe -- I trusted you over my own husband.
Stefano: Alexandra --
Lexie: No! No. Oh, God, what have I done? What have I done to my family? Oh, god. Oh, God.
Hattie: You know, you're something. You come in here and threaten me like that, and I still know that you're a good man, and I still trust you.
Roman: You can, Hattie. I will keep all my promises to you. But you have to tell me everything you saw and heard. Everything, okay? Even if it seems insignificant, tell me. Okay? My friend?
Roman: All right. Okay. Now listen, tell me again, why did you go to DiMeraís house?
Hattie: Do you think that maybe you could make me look like her, doctor?
Rolf: I can make you look exactly like her. By the time I am finished, you could be Marlena Evans.
Hattie: If I swore that it has nothing to do with that body, can we just skip over that part?
Roman: Hattie, all right, okay, Iíll te-- let's try it this way, all right? You told me that you really didn't know Stefano, but you knew this other man, this -- this doctor who does know Stefano, and he's the one who took you to Stefano's house, right?
Hattie: That's right.
Roman: All right. Okay. Can you tell me, how well does he know Stefano?
Roman: Hattie, this is important. I need to know everything there is to know about him.
Hope: Jen, are you there?
Jennifer: Uh, yeah.
Hope: Has Abby left for school yet?
Jennifer: Yeah, Jack, uh, took her.
Hope: Good, uh, I can't leave the house right now, in case there's any news, but you and I need to talk, and not on the phone. Could you come over right now?
Jennifer: Uh, yeah. Uh, um, I'll get dressed and I-I'll come right over.
Hope: I'll be waiting.
Abe: Yeah, it's your birthday. I bet you can't wait to get into those presents, can you? Yeah, you can't wait see them. [Doorbell rings]
Abe: Well, maybe that's mommy, huh? Maybe she forgot her keys. Let's go see, okay? Let's go see. Yeah. Here we go. All right. Oh.
Bo: Hey. Happy Birthday there, big guy.
Abe: Yeah, this is a surprise. Come on in. Come on in.
Bo: Um, yeah. Thought I'd stop by on my way to the station.
Abe: You know, I appreciate that. I know this is not an easy day for you.
Abe: I've been, um, reading the papers and I saw all the newscasts. I think it's going
to work. I think you're going to get J.T. back real soon.
Bo: From your lips to God's ears.
Elsie: I think you know that there is nothing that I wouldn't do for family. So what can I help you with?
Glen: Well, I just need a place to hide until I can prove the boy's my son.
Barb: So here I am running from the cops, and I don't even know where the hell you are, Glen. Of course you forget your damn cell phone.
Woman on TV: So, to recap the main story -- a nationwide search has been launched to find this baby John Thomas Brady. He was last seen in a car seat with the name Isaac on it, but he is the child of Bo and Hope Brady of Salem.
Barb: My God, we've got the wrong kid. [Gasps] Oh, my God.
Abe: Here you go. This will help you. Yeah.
Bo: You know why I'm here, don't you?
Bo: You and I are in this thing together.
Abe: You know, I pray that Glen will realize he has the wrong baby and brings J.T. back to you.
Bo: I'm confident he will. Thing is when he does, he going to try to take Isaac from you.
Abe: Yeah. It's weird how they get to you, isn't it?
Abe: I couldn't love him more if he were my own blood.
Bo: I know exactly what you mean.
Stefano: Alexandra, enough. I will not have this. You must pull yourself together.
Stefano: I will keep my promise. You will not lose your child, but... You must do exactly as I say.
Lexie: Then you do have a plan?
Stefano: Yes, but... You are not going to like it.
Lexie: To keep my son, I'll do anything. Just tell me. Tell me what I have to do.
Roman: Hattie, I need a name. Who took you to the DiMera house?
Roman: All right. Okay, I'm out of here and so is the police protection.
Hattie: I-it was my plastic surgeon.
Roman: Your plastic surgeon?
Hattie: Yeah, the guy that did my teeth and nose.
Roman: That's right. We talked about that.
Hattie: Yeah, and you said that I didn't need to have it done.
Roman: No, you looked fine, but then you looked so much like mar-- wait a minute here. Wait a minute. Is that -- is that the connection? Hattie, did Stefano have anything to do with this surgery? Was DiMera trying to turn you into Marlena?
Barb: All that money for a D.N.A. test on the wrong baby. If you called, Glen, I could fill you in. I'm not sticking around for that. I'm out of here before the cops show up.
Elsie: Oh, so he finally woke up. Let me have him a little, will you?
Elsie: Oh, oh. Yes, he is a little light for a year old. Well, we're going to fatten you up. Glen, I don't think this baby looks too good. This crying...
Glen: What is it? I mean, what's wrong with him?
Elsie: I don't know. He just doesn't sound right. You know, has he been sick?
Glen: Not that I know of.
Elsie: Maybe he's just scared. Yeah, how about I change you and get you something to eat? Would that make you happy?
Glen: Thanks, Aunt Elsie. I'll make a quick call while you do that, all right?
Elsie: Help yourself.
Elsie: Oh, my God!
Glen: What is it? What's wrong? What's wrong with him, Elsie?
Elsie: He's turning blue.
Glen: Do something.
Elsie: That's okay...
Glen: Do something. Do CPR. Help him.
