Episode #8505 ~ Bill talks Liam down off the proverbial ledge. Deputy Baker and Detective Sanchez develop a theory about Vinny's death.

Provided By Suzanne

Hope: Liam. Hey. I'm--I'm glad you answered.

Liam: Yeah. Are the kids okay?

Hope: Oh, they're fine. Um, how are you? You never came by to see Beth and Douglas last night.

Liam: Uh, yeah. I'm sorry about that. I just, um--

Hope: Well, can you come over now?

Liam: Aren't--aren't you getting ready to go to work?

Hope: Please, Liam, uh, it's been a while since I've seen you and I think it would be good if sat down and talk. I think we need it. I'm worried about you.

Liam: Oh, yeah. Well, you know, you don't have to be. I just, um-- I got a little worked up at the office, you know, but, uh--

Hope: If you don't, I'll be even more worried.

Liam: Yeah. Okay. All right. I'll be there soon as I can.

Hope: Okay.

Brooke: Wow. That didn't sound good.

Hope: I don't know what's happening, mom. I think there's something's going on with Liam.

Bill: Liam. You put up all night, haven't you?

Liam: I mean, I tried to sleep. I just couldn't.

Bill: All right. Well, I'm heading into the office. And eventually, you have to pull yourself together enough that you can do the same. We talked about this. You wanna stay in la? You wanna be here for your kids? Then you gotta get your head right and move on with your life.

Liam: No. It's just... easier said than done when you've killed someone. I mean, Vinny's never gonna take another breath, okay? That's not something you forget.

Sanchez: What are you thinking, chief?

Baker: I'm thinking that Vincent Walker got himself into some serious trouble. And it caught up with him on the road that night.

Sanchez: So you don't think it's a random hit-and-run?

Baker: Have you been able to corroborate yet that he did deal drugs?

Sanchez: I'm working on it. But if it's true, more than likely we're dealing with a robbery or a drug deal gone bad.

Baker: That seems reasonable.

Sanchez: You have another idea?

Baker: I'm just wondering. Could this somehow tie back in to the paternity test case?

Sanchez: We didn't find any drugs on the body. No wallet. No phone. I'm thinking robbery.

Baker: Or it made it look like one. Too early to rule anything out.

Sanchez: Walker was a risk taker. What he did with the paternity test, stealing pills from the hospital and selling them. Eventually a guy like that's gonna run out of luck.

Baker: Or run into the wrong person.

Sanchez: Drug deals go bad all the time. Unfortunately, everyone we've questioned has been a dead end.

Baker: Oh, I guarantee you. Somebody knows more than they're saying. Sooner or later, it's all gonna come out.

Hope: I invited Liam to come by and see the kids last night but he said it wasn't a good idea. And I was hoping he would change his mind, but he never showed.

Brooke: Oh, that doesn't sound like him. I would think he would be thrilled to be here.

Hope: Well, that's why I offered. I thought it might cheer him up.

Brooke: Maybe he just got caught up at work.

Hope: Well, he had something to do with his dad.

Brooke: Hmm. So you suspected something more?

Hope: I don't know, mom. He's just been really down on himself. Like, the things he's saying, it's-- his entire attitude has completely changed.

Brooke: Honey, this separation has been hard for both of you. He still feels terrible about letting you down.

Hope: Hmm, I think it's something more than that. I need to talk to him. I mean, yes, we're separated, but Liam is still my husband.

Bill: Maybe if I try reducing this to its simplest value. Your family needs you, Liam. It doesn't get more simple than that, right? You can't keep thinking this way.

Liam: Yeah. Well, I can't start thinking everything's normal either.

Bill: You have to. What did I tell you? You find a way or I will put your ass on a jet and fly out of here.

Liam: Okay. But how am I-- how am I supposed to go to work? How am I supposed to face hope and the kids? I mean, I--I-- I told her I would, but I don't even--

Bill: Wait, wait, wait. You--you talked to hope again?

Liam: Yeah, like just now before you walked in. She--she wants me to stop by.

Bill: Okay. Well, that's great. That's great. She wants to see you. You know--you know, forget what I said before. Things have evolved. You can't change what happened that night. You can't fix it, but you can fix your relationship with hope. You can save your family. Don't throw it away, Liam. Don't let this-- this guilt consume you to the point that it robs Kelly and Beth of their father. Don't let that loser take your family away from you. Rinsing the dishes before they go in the dishwasher?

Sanchez: I'm not ready to rule anything out either. I'm just saying that the Forrester paternity case has been rectified.

Baker: To everyone's satisfaction?

Sanchez: Vinny was arrested. All the evidence was there. He changed the test results. The truth came out. I still can't see someone wanting to kill him for it.

Baker: Well, I've seen it happen for a lot less.

Sanchez: I still think we should, uh, stick with the narcotics idea. It's our best bet.

Baker: Vinny's phone records should tell us a lot.

Sanchez: I'm also gonna check and see if his car had a GPS system. He had a favorite spot to make his deals.

Baker: Good idea. Check his work schedule too, see where or when he liked to take his breaks.

Sanchez: We should get the crime scene report today.

Baker: Good. Give it to me when it gets in. I think I need to check on the other angle.

Sanchez: You have a feeling about this.

Baker: I just have some questions I need to ask, mainly for Dr. John Finnegan, Thomas Forrester, and Liam Spencer.

Bill: Yeah. Well, of course, he likes the car. It's a great car. I love that car. Because, um, it's about the bottom line, Justin, and then the sheik was willing to pay over value for it so, it, uh, would have been a crime not to get rid of it. Liam? Um, no, he's--he's not, uh-- he's not coming in today. He's taking some personal time but... um, listen. I--I--I have to get back to you. Uh, thank you for the update though and I'm--I'm really glad that's been taken care of. Well, this is the best surprise I have had in quite a while.

Katie: Do you have a little bit of time?

Bill: For you? Of course, I do.

Katie: Are you sure? 'Cause you've been a little bit out of touch lately. Is everything okay?

Bill: I-- I--I've just been really kinda overwhelmed lately.

Katie: Well, will has been missing you.

Bill: I--I--I know. I--I've been meaning to come by. And calling and texting isn't enough. I--I--I did congratulate him on that amazing history project.

Katie: And he appreciated that. But he really does wanna show you.

Bill: Oh. And I--I-- I can't wait to see it. "The history of currency"? I love that boy. I--I just-- I just really had had a-- a lot going on, something I'm trying to take care of.

Katie: Having to do with Liam?

Brooke: You know your own mind, honey. You'll do what's right for you and your family.

Hope: I do love Liam. And I--I will always care about him.

Brooke: You know him better than anybody. You both have a very special bond.

Hope: Well, he did finally admit something was wrong.

Brooke: Yes, of course. It seems wrong. I mean, nothing's like it used to be. It must be hard for all of you. I was really hoping that this separation wouldn't take this long, but I know you've needed your time to work through things and figure out what this means for your future.

Hope: Or if Liam and I even had one. I--I wasn't really sure. But now, I see him struggling and I just wanna be there for him.

Brooke: That's the kind of person that you are. And this means that you're closer to forgiving him.

Liam: Oh, hi. Hey.

Brooke: Hey.

Liam: Um... I came here as soon as I could.

Hope: Well, I'm really glad you can make it.

Brooke: Well, I know that you two have been trying to get together for some time, so I'm not gonna interrupt. Good to see you, Liam.

Liam: It's good to see you too... both of you. I mean that by the way. It's really nice to see you.

Hope: It's really good to see you, too. I just-- I wish you weren't so reluctant to be here.

Liam: Uh, it's--uh, no. It's not that. I just, um-- I guess I don't... want the things I've done following me here. It's our place. You know, it's--it's... home.

Hope: I hope it still feels that way.

Liam: Being here makes me feel better looking at you, you know, being surrounded by all these memories, I-- maybe this is just what I needed. I've lost count of how many asthma attacks I've had.

Baker: Mr. Walker tried to rob dr. Finnegan of his child, so if anyone had a motive--

Sanchez: But it wasn't personal. Vinny didn't change the paternity test to cause problems for Finnegan. He's trying to help Thomas Forrester.

Baker: Uh, there's somebody else with a motive. He made a big show about wanting to bring the killer to justice. But he had to be furious with his friend about interfering with his sister's life. You know big brothers.

Sanchez: Not to mention Thomas' own shady past. You know, if we're really evaluating this group as potential suspects, Liam Spencer was hurt by Vinny's actions more than anyone.

Baker: Walker sabotaged Liam's marriage and his family. If that situation hasn't been resolved, Liam's probably harboring a lot of resentment.

Sanchez: Chief, I understand why you wanna talk to these guys. Walker messed with their lives. His little game had serious consequences for them. They wanted some payback. I just can't see one of them hating him enough to murder him.

Bill: Why would you think something's going on with Liam?

Katie: Well, I overheard you on the phone. He's not coming in to work today?

Bill: Oh, uh, no.

Katie: Is he not feeling well?

Bill: He's taking some personal time.

Katie: I--I--I'm sorry. I--I must not have heard you right. You--you have to be in the hospital or in a terrible accident or maybe even dead to miss a meeting around here, so now you're allowing "personal time?"

Bill: Uh, well, only when a said person can't... take care of the job at hand.

Katie: Well, maybe the boss needs a little personal time.

Bill: Yeah. You have no idea. And if I had any, you are the person I would wanna spend it with.

Katie: Getting a little crowded in the house with Liam?

Bill: Well, it would-- it would certainly be easier if you would just listen to his dad.

Katie: I hope you're being sympathetic to what he's going through.

Bill: I'm that kid's guardian angel right now.

Katie: You're a good dad. And it's very thoughtful of you to allow Liam to stay with you. I can only imagine what a difficult time this is for him right now.

Liam: I've-- I've already ruined so much. You know, I just--I-- I can't stand the thought of causing you and the kids more pain.

Hope: Is that why you had been pulling away? Like, how I did after we thought we lost Beth, I mean, you were the one who begged me not to do that and now look. Liam, I know you feel terrible about what you did but please don't let that stop you from spending time with our family. I mean, the kids miss you. I mean, that was the entire point of-- of our lunch. We were trying to schedule more time for you to spend with the kids.

Liam: I--I know. And I'm sorry. I--I-- I hated that I canceled on you and I--I didn't... get to see you guys. I just--

Hope: Liam... I know there's something wrong. Okay? I look at you and I see you and... I don't know what it is and I don't how to help you. And that scares me because I can feel you shutting down and I-- I don't wanna lose you. You're too important to me. And we've always been able to rely on each other and I know you miss the kids and they miss you and... so do I. I miss our life. I miss our family. I-- just like you said, this is our home. And it just... doesn't feel the same without you.

Liam: What are you saying?

Bill: Liam is floundering right now. I'm trying to help him.

Katie: Well, I understand that but there's only so much a father can do. Liam is an adult. He has to take responsibility for his actions and deal with the consequences.

Bill: Well, some consequences are unthinkable.

Katie: No. Let's not imagine the worst-case scenario. But hope and Liam are gonna have to work this out themselves.

Bill: And I think they can do that if Liam would just get past this, uh, crippling guilt that he's feeling. He just needs to open his eyes and then he'd be able to see the future that they had planned.

Katie: You really think that's possible?

Bill: Don't you?

Katie: I'd like to think so.

Bill: Me too. I know how he feels. It's hard to be apart from your family, the woman that you love. You know, I'm--I'm-- I'm glad that I'm able to be there for Liam. He needs me, but, Katie, you and will are never far from my thoughts. In fact, you're always on my mind. My family is my priority. And I will do whatever I have to--to protect them.

Hope: I know how tormented you are about what you did.

Liam: I am.

Hope: And you didn't expect it to disrupt our lives the way it has.

Liam: No. And-- and you and the kids, you don't deserve that. You know, I-- I'm supposed to protect you. I'm supposed to make you... feel safe.

Hope: And if you could go back and do things differently, you would.

Liam: It's funny how... one night can change everything and nothing can change it back.

Hope: Liam, I didn't ask you to move out to punish you. I--I really did need to figure out how I-- how I felt and what I needed and what was important to me and... our marriage, our family, that's what matters to me. You're my husband. And... even when my heart was breaking, I never stopped loving you and I wasn't sure when or how I could get to a place of forgiveness but... here I am.

Liam: So you-- you just said you-- you forgive me?

Hope: It'll be a process but... I love you. I do and... this is what matters to me, our family and our life and, Liam, I just-- I want you to come home, just come home.

Liam: Thank you.

Hope: [ Sobs ]

Liam: Thank you.
